The Gathering's Lord of the Rings Set Will Be Giant
Image: Wizards of the Coast It seems like Wizards of the Coast announced it would be releasing a Lord of the Rings-themed edition of its venerable Magic: The Gathering trading card game back in the First Age, but in fact, it’s only been two years, and other than a peek at a little of the art, we’ve learned little about it. Now, we—well, we don’t know much, other than you’ll be available to blow…

This is Block9: Insignificance Versus Significance flyer. I have around 14 days to complete Chapter 1 for this Block. So, I'm going to be busy trying to make the deadline. Furthermore, I just started an Internet PTTS fundraising by creating post on craigslist.org. I needed to earn immediate cashes for living expenses reasons. So, any supports would be appreciated. The following is the link to that fundraising: https://post.craigslist.org/manage/7637043711

So I know celebrity rockstar Eddie with Just-Some-Guy Steve is popular, but what about the opposite?
Steve, who is a professional Basketball player, got scouted from where he played for his college team. The fan fave, the darling of the locals, and one of the best players on the team. Models for sportswear brands, has had interviews and talks at schools and the media loves him. He's handsome, and nice, and has publicly come out.
And then there's Eddie. His boyfriend since college. Just some guy who runs a music store. Started just as a minimum wage worker and then slowly worked his way up to running a small business himself. Sells guitars and drums and other instruments. Vinyl and cds and music merch. Hosts guitar lessons. Is happy playing music because he loves it, not for the fame and money.
Eddie goes to all his games (or as many as he can) and while he's not a sports guy and never will be he loves watching Steve play. Is only about 80% sure of the rules at best and that's good enough for Steve. And Steve who's not a metal fan, and will never be into DnD but will spend his free evenings helping Eddie plan a campaign or listening to this song Eddie's been trying to learn on the guitar.
Idk I just think it's fun to explore the opposite! Eddie getting excited any time he sees people wearing Steve's merch in public and people keep mistaking him for a hardcore fan because no one knows who he is and honestly he's fine with that. He is a big fan of Steve
he's a big fan of steve' MOMO THAT LAST LINE TOOK ME OUT!!!! OHH!!!!
Okay so as always i am IN LOVE with your ideas and where you take them and explore with the space.
Please can I have Eddie who doesn't completely GET sports but he DOES get collecting so he has one of those card books and collects basket ball trading cards. He has a full page of 'Steves' that he every proud of because he's drawn on some of them, giving him different outfits/hair/facial hair/speech bubbles, some include dragon hatcher steve, android steve, malibu barbie steve and pronstache steve (that one wasn't even drawn on, Steve was just trying something new and it got immortailised in a trading card much to Eddie's delight. His personal favourite is a Steve mid spin of the ball on his fingertip, the image of concentration and Eddie has yet to see a photo that highlights the muscle and bite-ability of Steve's arms quite as well as that one.
When Eddie and Steve are out for dinner and Eddie sees a little kid wearing a shirt with Steve's name on it he's quick to point it out to the delight of his boyfriend, both of them trying to figure out a way to subtly let the kid know that 'Harrington' is here.
Eddie who turns up to games with the kids and a foam finger because 'Steve come on its hilarious' but in reality he just loves obnoxiously supporting him. Steve kisses his finger tips and waves to Eddie before running to join the team in the changing rooms. Eddie who catches it and stuffs it in his pocket in the most dramatic way possible. Steve who laughs every time because he wouldn't have it any other way.

There are certain images that stay with you forever. The year is 2003 and I am playing the Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game released by Score Entertainment. Not to be confused with the website by the same name - my local card playing haunt is a store called "Game Spot" - the spot at which I played many games. The decor is what you'd expect: a Final Fantasy IX standee complimented by one of the faux-anime third person shooter "Oni." A Metal Gear Solid poster hangs nearby alongside many its many Dragon Ball Z brothers.
The other bits of 00s Gamer Ephemera escape my mind - but this one stands out in my memory the most. It may be the single strongest vision of that time that I still retain.
The store's owner loved Vegeta as much as any one person could. Sometimes I find myself envying his ability to love anything that intensely. It's that passion that I believe led him to fashion this poster. Edited by hand, he added a speech bubble to an official poster of a pensive Vegeta saying to himself "Saiyans LOVE The G Spot!"
A Saiyan prince, Vegeta could speak for all Saiyans, sure, but I believe he spoke mostly for himself. At this time, Vegeta is the only person alive who still remembers Saiyan culture and attitudes. And, that's what makes this act of expression so pure. It's a reflection of the affection felt for Vegeta, redirected back at the store owner's creation: "Game Spot" or, "The G Spot."

You watch anime and read boys love 🤔
Oooh close. You are more describing me 20 years ago. I did used to watch a lot of anime. My friend had anime on demand on cable and new episodes came out on Thursday so we'd go watch stuff over there. I used to go to an anime club at the library where we'd watch stuff and hang out.
Most of my anime and manga was more Magical Girl genre, or stuff you'd find in shonen jump (get ready for a blast from the past: Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Digimon, Dragon Ball/DBZ, Yu-Gi-Oh, and as you can see from my icon, I watched the shit out of Kiki's Delivery Service).
BL I definitely read, but I didn't keep it in my house (homophobic religious parents). I was mostly consuming queer fanfic/fanart of the above animes, rather than reading/watching published shonen ai or yaoi. CCS definitely has a canon mlm side romance but not to the degree that I'd classify it as BL? CLAMP has some other BL stuff that I'm sure I've read and just can't remember because it's literally been 20ish years.
Nowadays I don't watch or read much anime or manga! I have a respectable collection of Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor Moon manga that I collected over the years for the nostalgia factor. The last anime I sat down and watched was attack on Titan like 4 or 5 years ago. My husband wanted me to watch it with him and I had to quit halfway through. It was too stressful. 😅 I need something much lighter. Children's card games and magical girl transformations and power level 9000 you know?

The Dragon Ball Z TTRPG -- Yes, an Official One Does Exist
Before I go into the game itself, I want to talk about the creator of the franchise.
Yesterday, the world learned of the loss of the great Akira Toriyama. He was so incredibly influential to so many of us, and like many others, I was absolutely gutted by the tragic news. He was far too young.
Tumblr media
Dragon Ball was a big part of my life growing up, and it's what helped me create bonds with so many people who became good friends. Other people online have written poetically about how much each of his series and creations have touched their hearts, and I don't know that I can do the same justice. I'm not wordy like that.
I grew up during the start of the NES era so I knew about Dragon Quest, but at the time I had no idea that the iconic character and monster designs were thanks to him. When the SNES came out and Chrono Trigger was released, I immediately recognized the style of art. Dragon Quest VIII is still my favourite, if only because it's cool to see the characters go pseudo-super saiyan. In 1995, the original dub of Dragon Ball hit airways here, and a few months later Dragon Ball Z was released. It was surreal to watch kid Goku and adult Goku every week, simultaneously. Seeing the flying nimbus, but not seeing the Power Pole, and not knowing who Piccolo or Krillin were, but recognizing Master Roshi and Bulma, and finding out Goku was an alien the whole time. It was jarring at times, but seeing references to each series like the Kamehameha Wave and capsules, helped. Then there were all the Budokai games for PS2. I practically broke my dual-shock controllers trying to win those beam battles.
This is going to get long, so I'll put a separation bar here.
When the internet finally came out publicly and schools had access, I looked up Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, discovered what anime was, learned of Akira Toriyama and how he had a comedy series called Dr. Slump, that the Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z anime were considered separate stories, but the manga kept it as Dragon Ball, etc.
Heck, when the cards came out, I was one of the first people to buy Ani-Mayhem's DBZ set.
Tumblr media
What's really great to see is people discovering the Dragon Ball manga for the first time, hearing their thoughts on YouTube videos (namely Merphy and TotallyNotMark), and how original and groundbreaking the fight choreography is compared to others series, and how much his style has influenced current day shounen manga. And that doesn't even include how Team Four Star and DBZA has influenced people.
But, let's get into the rest of this post.
When the TTRPG came out in 1999, DBZ was such a phenomenon that our local bookstore was having trouble keeping it in stock. My gaming group ended up having to pre-pay for a copy of the TTPRG. DBZ: The Anime Adventure Game from R. Talsorian Games was a little rough around the edges when it came to balance, and how powering up worked compared to the series, especially when that system was revised in the Frieza saga book. Still, it was nothing any of us had experienced before. Up until that point, we had done AD&D, Rifts, Toon, Shadowrun, and Marvel Super Heroes.
The person who usually ran the games, ended up being the GM and we did two campaigns. I had an absolute blast. Unfortunately, I was kind of alone in that. The TTRPG doesn't leave a lot for social interaction, which a number of our players preferred doing. This is closer to a war game. As such, we never played the game system again after the two campaigns. In fact, we never even finished the second one. I still picked up all three books as they came out though, and the GM from that group still has his original Saiyan Saga book.
The first thing that made me happy, as I didn't have nearly the dice collection I do now, was all you needed were 6-sided dice. That made my life so much easier, and for the Shadowrun players, they had tubs of d6 ready to use.
When it came to the contents of the book, what I really enjoyed was seeing all the power levels, and the character art.
Tumblr media
These power levels updated with each book, and the lore and special abilities would also update.
If you kept the game to Dragon Ball levels, you felt that you could keep the campaign going for a very long time. The character sheet was extremely simple, and there were tips on what you could build a campaign around, as well as basic suggestions on trying to keep the "main character" complex to a minimum. The Star Wars RPG systems have a similar concept where the GM is told that either everyone's a Jedi, or no one's a Jedi. Same thing for ewoks since they were so limited for weapon proficiencies (they literally could never learn how to use tech, ever, which I find ridiculous). Basically, for Dragon Ball, namekians should look at fushions to power up, or everyone should be a saiyan or half-saiyan, especially if you're bringing in the super saiyan transformation. Otherwise, no saiyans in the game at all. This way everyone stays about the same level and can't be a spotlight hog while everyone else is forced to sit back and watch the game instead of participate.
If you'd like to read a full review of it, you can check one out here. Barnabas did a great write-up.
Personally, I find it kind of wild that there's literally zero stats for dinosaurs or other prehistoric animals. Where's the T-Rex and sabertooth tiger? This feels like a massive oversight given that people live alongside dinosaurs and other extinct-in-our-world beasts.
Overall, it was original in what it tried to accomplish, and I appreciate that. We've since seen other game systems that can replicate this fairly well. I prefer BESM (Big Eyes, Small Mouth), and any edition works, but I know others really enjoy doing DBZ using FATE, which I can see working. I've seen people try to pull off DBZ characters using 3.5e, Pathfinder 1e and 2e, and 5e, but you'd need to homebrew your own class from the ground up, and it likely wouldn't be balanced. At best, you could maybe get something close with a 20th level character.
If you find a copy somewhere, I definitely recommend it for a one-shot, if nothing else. Maybe you can run it at a convention. I'm considering doing that. It'd be a nice send off. And this year's convention is dinosaur themed, so maybe I'll have the mission be to teach a dinosaur how to ride a ball.
In closing, I'm so grateful to Akira Toriyama for giving us the stories and designs that he did. I can not convey in words just how important the Dragon Ball franchise was for my friends and I to even have met one another, and then Chrono Trigger brought us even closer and we'd go to one friend's house every lunch (he lived across the street from school) and we'd watch him play because we were so immersed in the story and with the characters...
So much respect and admiration for him. Akira Toriyama, thank you for everything. In Eiichiro Oda (One Piece mangaka)'s words: "I wish that heaven is as jolly of a world as the one you imagined and drew."

When I tried to take this the first time I dropped my phone on the street and it bounced around like a bouncy ball and shot my stylus up in the air
ooouguuoouoaauaAAAAUuuh
Now that thats out of my system I finished Dungeon 飯 today and wowie. That shit was so good but even more than the actual events of the series I still just cant believe how much shit that lady draws all the time. Seeing the little in between collections of stuff she drew was crazy. I've never successfully finished a character sheet and shes over here drawing the details of how Fleki puts on her clothes and how Marcille ties up her hair. I must channel the desire to draw cute elf girls. I have a funny pic of Laios in mind too I hope I dont forgeeeeetttttt
My mind is not well rn but I looked at a bunch of games on switch earlier cuz we were talking about all the stuff that Square Enix releases in between its overproduced garbage, and I was made aware of Dungeon Encounters and some came called something about cards, Cards + Victory or something like that. This is all unrelated to Meshi I promise kinda
But those two are like polar opposites cuz the card thing has super super good character designs and art and like the game seems kinda interesting but I'm fully being tricked by a girl in leggings with a weird sweater thing and I dont even care. And then Dungeon Encounters is like what if a game had no assets. The dungeon looks like a fuckin scrabble board and the fights are just tiny boxes with character portraits in them against a generic background and it looks like one guy made it. But I'm looking at it and I'm like no, this is what I want. This is the antithesis of FF7R, this rules. So I want those two and Shiren the Wanderer I think? Shriren? But its the first western release in a long line of samurai roguelikes made by the Mystery Dungeon guys. Like not Pokémon Mystery dungeon I'm talkin fat guy from Dragon Quest Myster Dungeon. It looks real good
I just gotta get paaaaaiiiddddddddddddddddddddsddddddddd
Peace and Long Life

Quick Game reviews: 2023 (Part 2!)
Tumblr media
Continuing on! These were ones I played closer to the end of the year, but also as I remember them throughout. Other than that, order doesn't matter
Let's keep this ball rollin!
Tumblr media
Kirby's Dreamland 2 (Switch online)
The only Kirby's dreamland I never played! I enjoyed it quite a lot, though of course it's a pretty easy Kirby game. Back in the day this would've been a lot of fun, and still is as a quickly little romp through a classic Kirby game. Nowadays it doesn't really hold up vs SuperStar DX and Planet Robobot, so not an essential playthrough by any means
______________________________________________
This next section's going to be about playing and 100% every Super Mario Advance game! How incredibly pointless interesting!
To put an age on myself, GBA was my late kid/early teen years and I have a long history with these games. Since they all got added as part of NSO+ or whatever I'm mooching off of Keewy's subscription (love you so much bud), I figured it'd be fun to go back and 100% all of them. Mixed results, but let's get into it.
Tumblr media
Super Mario Advance (Switch Online, GBA)
This one was the original Mario Advanced, and more first into into SMB2 (Doki Doki Panic). Since it was fresh to me I didn't realize at the time that it was just a remaster, and thought it was difficult but a lot of fun. The addition of the findable Yoshi eggs adds some replay-ability, but mostly in the form of a tedious hide and seek.
Additionally, the playground rumor was if you got ALL of the Yoshi eggs, you can play as him! This is an outright lie. Ryan. You get nothing for finding them all other than the satisfaction of knowing you did it. As far as an experience goes, this is definitely one of the better ways to play SMB2 as long as you can get back the crunchy but frequent voice lines
Tumblr media
Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World (Switch Online, GBA)
This one was one I spent COUNTLESS hours playing on my old GBA, and continued playing after the DS came out on my Micro. Easily my favorite 2D Mario game, no contest. This is the best way you can experience SMW officially, and I'd highly recommend it since it made some of the more high-score aspects like dragon coins collectibles instead.
Unlike The previous game, this game actually rewards you with some fun screens and congratulations when you finish everything too!
Tumblr media
Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island (Switch Online, GBA)
Another incredibly solid title! Same as the original but with some minor tweaks and additional levels. This is the definitive version of the original Yoshi's Island, which if you haven't played, you absolutely should.
I Don't remember a reward past the "All Clear" congratulations you get, but still that's enough of an accomplishment because these levels can get tough.
Tumblr media
Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 e+ (Switch Online, GBA
This one and I have a funny history. I got on e-reader at the tail end of it's incredibly short lifespan in the states. While I have fond memories of scanning cards for NES games, Animal Crossing, and this game, I unfortunately was not able to find the packs to play all these e-reader levels. Now that this is re-released, I can finally play all them and see what the reward is for getting all the cards and collectibles in the levels (which involves playing each one at least twice!).
You get nothing! And the card levels vvary in quality, definitely with a very proto Mario Maker vibe to them. They were fun at the time, but honestly they should've just done a bonus world with all the levels already available after beating the game. Playing all this once-lost level content is interesting, but as far as this game goes it can get pretty grindy and overstay its welcome, especially in comparison to things done nowadays in 2D mario with Wonder and Mario Maker
Tumblr media
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (Switch Online, GBA)
A classic masterpiece. Offers a big, beautiful, wacky world to explore without overstaying it's welcome with unique ways of traversing and interacting with the environment and an incredible battle system. Honestly? I'd suggest playing this over its 3DS remake; what that adds isn't worth missing out on this iconic art that defined a small generation of sprite-artists, and the QoL stuff added doesn't really do that much for this game since it was already incredible.
Will always recommend SuperStar Saga
... And that's all the Mario advanced games! Basically, play Superstar Saga, the rest is up to you but SMW is great as well.
Tumblr media
BurgerTime Deluxe (Switch Online, GB)
Me and Burgertime Arcade go waaaaay back to the dentist office where they had a cabinet that I would play when I finished my cleanings but had to wait for half an hour afterwards. I had no idea this game existed!
Similar to Annalynn in the last post, this is a classic Arcade experience that in order to get really good at and beat without failure, you need to deeply understand how all its simple mechanics work. Since it's on NSO, I cheated a bit near the end. Still, This is a great portable expansion on Burgertime the arcade game, similar to how Donkey Kong GB blows the original DK arcade game out of the water! Would recommend you give it a try if only to get that classic arcade feeling.
Tumblr media
Vampire Survivors (Steam)
I have a hard time recommending games like this. On the one hand, I did enjoy my time with it and it was pretty fun to slowly get better and find all the things, as well as learn different really cool combos for some crazy shenanigans. On the other hand, there's not really much gameplay here other than wandering in the right direction and a skinner box. It's kinda like cookie clicker to me; not something that I like the idea of fondly, but still some good fun for a little bit. The kind of thing I could easily hyperfixate on without actually enjoying myself, if I'm not careful.
Tumblr media
Pikmin 1 (Switch)
So this surprised me. Was not expecting a Switch re-release, but it did make sense. As far as things go, this is a good way to experience the game (legally), and it does fix a number of issues with Wii Play Control versions, but at the end of the day I would've preferred a bit more; either some online high score comparison features or an actual HD remaster. Pikmin's a great time, but this entry shows it's age a bit; I'd recommend Pikmin 4 first.
Pikmin 3 also perfected the challenge mode, so going back to this version's classic mode with no changes or comparisons was just a little bleh.
Tumblr media
Pikmin 2 (Switch)
I feel like I can recommend this one a bit more, however it falls into the same pitfalls that rereleasing 1 does. Pikmin 2 is a phenomenal game, but loses all of the stakes of a time limit in exchange for being much larger (and hilariously unfair at times). It's challenge mode is also certainly more engaging than 1, but again it fails in comparison to 3, and I would've liked to see a remaster instead. Especially since Pikmin 3's DLC and later Pikmin 4 confirmed that they had all the HD assets for it. Again, I love pikmin, but Pikmin 4 perfectly captured the Pikmin experience for me, so I'd recommend checking that out first.
Tumblr media
Castle on the Coast (Steam)
A fun, easy, short 3D platformer whose mascot is based off of the mascot of a Children's Hospital! How cute.
It's a good time to just play through casually; the movement is a little strange but I was able to get used to it and it was a great time. Another game that feels of perfect length for what it's doing. It's pretty cheap on sale, I'd give this a god if you're aching for a classic 3D platformer game.
Tumblr media
Grounded (Steam)
This one's hard to recommend; I had a lot of fun playing it with my good pally pals June and Keewy, but it definitely seemed like it was more fine-tuned as a single-player experience since the scaling for additional people made everything WAY harder. Admittedly I wasn'ty playing my best and I'd still like to try and beat it, but I found myself frustrated a lot. I've not delved to much into the crafting survival genre past Minecraft, and while this one has good visuals and a fun 90s story, I have trouble giving it a thumbs-up
Tumblr media
Pikmin 4 (Switch)
After so many years...
It's fucking amazing, best entry in the series. The definitive Pikmin experience, if you've never played Pikmin start here and work backwards if you fall in love. Instant masterpiece, tons of content, but still found myself wanting more
Tumblr media
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (Switch Online, GBA)
Finally got around to finishing one of these! It's a very fun 2D Zelda, but is in drastic need of some QoL and modernization. Constantly using the start button to swap items and check the map is as tedious as expected, but in terms of gameplay it's a lot of fun! I didn't play Seasons yet, which feels like it's mandatory for getting the full expeience, and there were a few moments where I found myself lost and frustrated, but past that a solid 2D Zelda entry.
Tumblr media
Animal Crossing New Horizons: Happy Home Paradise (Switch DLC)
I had been playing AC to catch up and finally complete the museum, and was astonished by how little content there was in this DLC.
Then I learned that it doesn't Download automatically if you get it for free via NSO+ subscription. Oops.
It goes a long way in adding to New Horizon's experience, which after so many hours playing it can feel strippedof its charm as you repeat the same tasks with a limited number of personalities is refreshing. Is it worth $30? ehhh.
I've designed ~80 homes in it so far, and while it is fun to decorate around their guidelines and play with villagers you may have fond memories of from previous entries, it's very much a make your own goals kind of thing. You'll find yourself very easily bored of it if you don't engage with it seriously and only do the bare minimum to "progress", but it definitely allows AC's home designing experience to really shine.
Tumblr media
Sonic Frontiers: The Final Horizon (Steam)
Wow, this was not good! Incredibly hard platforming levels and bosses scattered all around the world that only Sonic could deal with, with some incredibly janky mechanics for all 3 the new playable characters that don't really work well enough to design levels around (which is good, because they didn't). Boss fights and new challenges are super difficult and annoying as well. The only Positive is the endin g is better, but you can watch that on Youtube. Honestly, the best experience you can have withg a farily good game like this is to play with all DLC downloaded but not going through the portal to this content. It's got 3D Sonic jank, but in a way that's incredibly frustrating and not fun to navigate around.
Tumblr media
F-Zero 99 (Switch Online)
I miss Super Mario Bros 35.
... This game's fine, and a fun re-imagining of classic F-Zero experience, but I was never really a fan of F-Zero and thought that the 2D ones were a bit too tough for me so I didn't play it much. If you like F-Zero though, you'll love this
Tumblr media
Super Mario Wonder (Switch)
Another hit, highly recommend this one for it's charm alone! It's 2D Mario, you know if you want it or not.
I will say my experience with it is from the perspective of someone who has religiously played every Mario game, and I did actually very much enjoy the game so the rest of this review will be from that perspective.
Game length felt a bit... short to me. There are just as many levels and worlds as you would expect in a 2D Mario game, as well asa lot of things to collect and a bonus world with it's own secrets of course. But I still managed to beat in 100% in about a day, whcih is kinda surprising to me given how much time I spent on other games. 3D World comes to mind as one with just about the same amount of levels, but one I spent way more time playing and had more enjoyment with just because of the way 100% is done. I would've liked to see a bit more is all I'm saying, but it's defnitely a full game.
The online ghost helper features is a welcome addition to the game. It allows you to help or be helped by other players and having that extra bit of interactivity and silent community without getting in the way of playtime. Visually it's also a stunning style, and I hope in future they continue to stylize Mario Games and move away from the Gamecube era models and NSMB styling and get something with much more character like this.
Gameplay wise it's also very fun, though you can feel the traditional 2D Mario formula in every level which is something I wish I could un-know. Badges are neat, but can be a mixed bag. There's one really good badge and then some okay badges and then others you would never touch, which doesn't really encourage the variations in gameplay as much as they would've hoped it does, I think. Additionally while I understand the idea of all characters playing the same (sans Yoshi + Nabbit), I think I still would've preferred unique movement for each character over the badge system.
All in all, it's great, but I want more.
Tumblr media
Knytt Underground (Steam)
So for those unfamiliar with Knytt, it was an atmospheric, simple, 2D indie platformer that allowed you to make your own levels and games and let other people play them. It was very popular amoung a certain group of early let's players that overlapped strongly with SMW Rom hacks. This is essentially a sequel/remaster of that style.
This game is just okay. It's very simple, involves a lot of backtracking and the story and characters aren't terribly engaging. It's not a bad time, but feels very much of its time so I can't really recommend this one.
Tumblr media
Super Mario RPG (Switch)
A fantastic remake of a trend-setting classic! I had forgotten how short the original was, but this adds a number of features and improvements that make it worth it. I love that they kept the very strange character designs that we never got to see again, as well as how faithful they were to the original's quirks while also fixing the localization issues. $60 is still a lot, imo, to ask for a game that already existed, but like that's a pretty good game and remake so I'd say go for it.
twitch_clip
Lethal Company (Steam)
This one I was unsure if I would like or not because I'm a big baby when it comes to horror games. Playing this with friends though changes everything, and I had a wonderful time with it. It's definitely one of those games where the less you know about the enemies the better, as once you start getting "good" at it it feels like a different experience than wandering into the unknown, but I'm looking forward to future updates. I'd give this one a try if you have some friends to play it with!
Tumblr media
Paper Mario (Switch Online, N64)
After finishing Super Mario RPG I had a terrible Mario RPG itch that I needed to scratch, and with TTYD remake announced and coming next year this seemed like a good move. I'm glad I did since I only played it once and didn't remember much of it. It's a fun, simple RPG, but the lack of depth to its mechanics and at this point pretty standard Mario story made it age less well than it's predecessor and sequel. I'm glad they're remaking TTYD and not this. It's by no means a bad time, but not one of the essential Mario RPGs over TTYD, Superstar Saga, and SMRPG.
Tumblr media
Disney Dreamlight Valley: Eternity Isle Expansion (Switch)
This is one that I mostly watched my Sister play over Christmas but then had to pick up so she could get the rewards for a limited quest she unlocked. This adds an interesting area, a much more thought-out storyline and world, and is overall an improvement. However, the basic flaws are still there, including random crashes and softlocking, stuttering framerate, some very low-poly resources, and just all around tediousness and grindy nature of it. I'd recommend this if you're a huge disney/ Animal Crossing fan, and even then on PC instead. It still feels like an early access game and has some pretty intense monetization, so for the cost of the base game plus expansion I cannot ethically recommend it due to its quality and bad internal practices
... But like, it's not a bad game. It just needs a lot more work.

BEST GAME I PLAYED THIS YEAR
Golly, lot of suspense in this one right? I raved about Tears of the Kingdom, but like a LOT of good stuff came out this year and I even enjoyed several incredible indies there.
I mean, you know what the answer is already, but I can pretend for a split second I wasn't going to say Pikmin 4 right?
It was Pikmin 4. Pikmin 4 is the best game I played this year, and nothing anyone says will convince me otherwise.
It was such a long wait and having come out as such a fun and packed experience, basically containing Pikmin 1 and 2 as sub games within it made it easily come out ahead. I just love it so much.
Tears of the Kingdom is 2nd place, and I didn't play Baldur's Gate so that's just not here.
...
Anywho, that's it! Hope everyone enjoyed gaming as much as I did this year, despite, well, you know. Motions vaguely towards entire planet
See ya!

Nobody asked but here’s a list of animes that gave me absolute batshit insane brainworms in no particular order since for some reason I was thinking about this today:
(literally just me ranting under the cut lmao)
1.) Sailor Moon - god, which little girl didn’t love Sailor Moon in the early 2000s? I was obsessed. Watched it like a religion. The manga. The art. The homoerotic overtones. The cute outfits. The princess that can fight. It still has a stranglehold on my heart. Although I tried to watch that Sailor Moon Crystal reboot and they just... bastardized it. It looks so bad lmao.
2.) Dragon Ball Z - I think Gohan specifically made me insane. Oh, you didn’t try to do kamehameha blasts? You didn’t try to do Fushion-Ha with your friends? You didn’t pretend you could fly just by sheer force of will like Videl? Get out of here. I may or may not have written some self-insert fanfics that were DBZ/Sailor Moon crossovers as a kiddo. Lmao.
3.) Yu Yu Hakusho - this is by far the worst offender on this list and probably still tops my favorite anime/mangas of all time. I’m talking obsessed. I can’t describe how many times I’ve seen it, collected all the manga volumes, collected the trading cards, bought and played every video game. Delinquent with a heart of gold? Second chances? Being alone and not seeing the point of your life but finding friends and a purpose and joy? Damn I sure wonder why this took over my entire teenage existence.... Also on a fandom note I think at this point I started being old enough to like, seek out fanfiction and get into slash. Fanfiction.net was a fuckin’ warzone lol. I was very weirdly into Yusuke/Kurama, too, and there wasn’t shit with that pairing anywhere. It holds up incredibly well. Spirit Gun?! Bad bitches only. Come on.
4.) Gravitation - this one I don’t really have an excuse for. It was like 15 episodes but it made me straight up crazy. I collected all the manga. The fact that it was a BL book didn’t even like, click in my teenage brain. But the mysterious writer with a dark past? The naive and sweet lead singer of a band that acts like an idiot but has pipes for days? Urgh. As a concept, its still like, the best band anime I’ve seen. Plus all the songs fucking SLAP. It does NOT hold up on rewatch lol. Shuuichi is frankly annoying and Erie is a fucking dick. Plus on re-read the author is... uh.... kind of obsessed with physically and violently raping Erie in her own doujinshi and painting gay men as predators. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
5.) My Hero Academia - *shows you around* yeah. here we are. Mind you, I haven’t been weird about anime in a solid like... 10 years but something about it activated my weeb sleeper cells and it has lived rent free in the my brain ever since. Everyone who shits on MHA is a hater lol. Story wise, character wise, design wise it tops my ‘greatest anime of all time’ list.
Speaking of the greatest animes of all time... the list above does not represent what I think about them in terms of quality, just that they scratched an itch that I can’t really put a finger on. Now in terms of objective quality, I’d definitely remove Gravitation, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball and replace it with Fullmetal Alchemist and Hunter x Hunter.
Fullmetal Alchemist is the best, full stop. The power system is beautifully thought out and really interesting. The entire plot if heavily character driven. The ‘villains’ are engaging and you feel some degree of sympathy for them. Its probably the anime I would recommend to anyone who wanted to watch anime for the first time. Absolutely stupendous.
I think if I watched HxH at a younger age it would have probably had the same stranglehold on me as the above mentioned. Its so outlandish and weird, the characters are all memorable, the villains are fascinating, and its just driven so heavily by this perfect, pure friendship of Gon and Killua. There’s no other relationship in shonen that I can think of that is just that... good. They’re literally best friends. They would literally rip the world apart for each other. The fight between Kurapika and Uvogin will forever be one my favorite animated fights of all time. ALL TIME.
Honorable mentions that I’ve watched probably multiple times and enjoyed significantly:
Ouran High School Host Club - god its so campy. So cute. So character driven. Beautiful.
One Punch Man - really really enjoying it so far. Will continue to watch. Super hilarious.
Regarding some really popular animes right now (AKA me shitting on people’s faves... sorry. I’m just a hater) :
Jujutsu Kaisen - am watching right now. I like it enough to keep watching, but I will say their power system and character introduction has been a tad lackluster and I’m not super into it. The animation is beautiful, though.
Demon Slayer - am enjoying for sure. Will continue to watch. Same thing - the designs are beautiful, the art is breathtaking and it's an interesting concept, but I don’t really feel that invested in any of the characters. It just doesn’t have that emotional pull for me. What they built with Rengoku’s character and arc surpasses the emotional development of the rest of the characters in the series for me, easy.
Haikyuu! - y’all got me to watch a sports anime. How. Overall, I liked it. Will continue to watch it. But damn does it do, like, NOTHING for me. Hinata’s and Kageyama’s friendship/rivalry is really the anchor of this whole series. Plus I love a short king underdog upbeat protagonist, what can I say.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - I’ve seen most of it and... yeah, it's really just not for me. I sincerely do not get the hype. The outfits slap though.
Death Note - read it before it got animated and really liked it as a standalone, but wouldn’t reread. Amazing plot, engaging characters, unique in every way and the art is mesmerizing. But honestly I’ve tried to watch the anime multiple times and it's just... eh. Can’t get through it. There’s just some stories that aren’t as good when you animate them.
Attack on Titan - fascinating concept, cool outfit/power system design and super engaging. I’ve seen a lot of it, but they kinda lost me with the ‘twist’ of where Titans come from. It's like the author had this amazing concept and literally didn’t know how to execute it. Also like... Levi literally carries that show. Eren? Bitch. Armin? I wanted to like him so bad, but uh. Bitch. Mikasa? I think you know where I’m going with this lol. Stopped watching.
I’ve never seen Bleach, One Piece, Naruto, Inuyasha and never will lmao. I think next on the list will be Mob Psycho 100.

Setting the Stage
Before you can play, you’ll need to figure out what sort of game you want to play in the first place! Get out something to write on and brainstorm things you want from this solo game. Having a good grasp of your goals from the get-go keeps things on track and prevents getting several hours in only to find you aren't having fun. Having the brainstorming sheet on hand to reference is great if you ever get stuck and don’t know what you want to do next.
What sort of world do you want to play in?
Genre and tone?
Fantasy
Magical girls
Horror
Cyberpunk
Scope of the story/world?
Town
Country
Planet
Galaxy
Universe
What stuff exists there?
Zombies
Talking animals
Androids
Magical weapons
Spaceships
Dragons
What media inspires this game?
 Books
Movies
A dream you had
Tv shows
Video games
Board games
A beautiful painting you saw
Music
What sort of things do you want to do in this world?
Explore and map
Discover new potions
Bounty hunting
Help people
Collect cool treasure
Prank people
Save the world
Steal stuff
Tumblr media
With all this in mind, next we need to select and prepare the stage for this game. I generally recommend a physical thing of some sort. Some fantastic options include:
That beautiful journal you’ve been holding on to, finally getting its chance to shine
A 3 ring binder for easy organizing
A coloring book
A journal cobbled together from junk
Random novel from the clearance section, thousands of prompts hidden in its pages
Box full of loose pages and trinkets
The canvas I’ve chosen for my game is the humble composition notebook; they’re easy to find, easy to store, and typically inexpensive. The final step of setting the stage is to add a handful of visual prompts to your canvas. Picking colors and techniques to suit your setting adds to the immersion to your game. For instance, for a sci-fi game about flying around in space ships I might use ball point pen, highlighter, charcoal/ graphite, geometric shapes, and black marker; whereas for a magical girl game I would probably use markers, glitter pens, stickers, and coloring pages.
In the interest of keeping this as accessible to everyone as possible I have chosen to limit my art supplies and keep a rough tally on how much I would have spent on supplies.
Total tally of supplies I used
Watercolor palette: 3.50$
Composition notebook: 99c
Handful of broken crayons: a new 8 pack is like a 1.50$
Pen, pencil and marker I found on the ground: free, about 4 bucks new
Regular printer paper: about 5$ for 500 sheets but I just yoink them from offices when I get the chance
8 Colored pencils I already had: about 4$ new
Shirt I don't wear anymore: free
A lone sock: free
Ball of cotton yarn: 3.50$
Index cards: 2.50$
Gluestick: 99c
Thread: 1.15$
Magazines, catalogs, and old books: free, check free libraries and ask your friends, save cool bits from junk mail
Visual prompts also provide inspiration mid game: a page of splatters might become a constellation, a cluster of fairies, the dust settling in the foreground after a battle, or just a beautiful background to write on. They also alleviate blank page anxiety by preemptively messing the pages up. I chose to add something about every 4th page, and I’m saving a bunch of extra collage materials in the back of my book for later.
Here are some ideas of stuff to add to get you started!
Scribbles
Blobs
Swirls
Paint splatters
Frames
Coloring pages
Envelopes
Pressed flowers
Magazine clippings
Book pages

How Does An Digimon Keychains Look Like?
As more people are getting into anime, there is a rising market for keychains that show your love for the popular Japanese animation series. But what does an anime keychain look like? In this article, you can find out all about these clever, tiny totems and what makes them so popular! Digimon Keychains have been gaining popularity among many people over the past few decades. In this blog article, we'll examine how they are made and why they are sold as well as what they are typically made of. What is an anime keychain? Anime keychains are small, colorful figurines that typically depict popular anime characters or scenes from shows. They're a fun way to show your fandom and can be a great conversation starter. Here's a look at how an anime keychain might look: Digimon Keychains are small, colorful accessories that are worn around the neck. They are typically made of plastic or metal and often feature anime characters or scenes from popular anime shows. Anime keychains can be bought anywhere that sells novelty items, including convenience stores, toy stores, and comic book stores. Some people also make their anime keychains by painting and decorating metal or plastic frames. Where do keychains come from? Digimon Keychains are a popular accessory for cosplayers and fans of anime, manga, and video games. They can be purchased at conventions and online stores, or made by hand. Many anime fans create their keychains by cutting out images or characters from magazines or brochures, or by downloading free templates online. Where do anime keychains come from? Anime keychains typically originate from Japanese animation and comics. The most famous example is the “Dragon Ball” character Goku’s iconic Saiyan warrior outfit, which has been featured in numerous anime and movie adaptations. Other popular anime characters with their keychains include Naruto’s fox demon mask, Ichigo Kurosaki’s Substitute Shinigami badge from “Bleach,” and Sailor Moon’s Tiara and choker. While many anime fans create their keychains, some manufacturers produce premade designs specifically for the market. Anime-themed keychains are available in a variety of shapes and sizes, with prices ranging from around $1 to $30. Some popular brands include Funko Pops (an entertainment collectible company that produces pop culture products such as bobbleheads), Sanrio (a Depictions of Anime in Art History Anime is a worldwide phenomenon that has transcended language barriers and cultural barriers. Consequently, anime art can be found in various forms all around the world. This includes depictions of anime in art history. One such example is the anime keychain created by Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano. The keychain was commissioned for the 2002 Japan Expo and features characters from popular Japanese animated series like "Dragon Ball" and "Card Captor Sakura." The characters are depicted realistically, with detailed costumes and facial expressions that replicate the character's personalities and emotions from the show. While this particular piece of art is not representative of all anime art, it does serve as an excellent example of how anime art can be interpreted and used to communicate a message or idea. Anime art has been around for over 50 years and has developed into an incredibly popular and versatile genre. Anime can be seen in a variety of forms, from traditional animation to live-action, to video games. With so many variations, it's no surprise that anime has inspired a wide range of art throughout its history. Here are four examples of how anime has influenced art history: 1. The Art of the Anime Keychain One of the most popular manifestations of anime influence in art is the anime keychain. These miniature sculptures often feature iconic scenes or characters from popular shows, like Attack on Titan or Naruto. They're a great way to show your love for anime without having to commit to a full-scale sculpture or painting. Plus, they make great souvenirs! 2. Japanese Prints and Murals Japanese prints and murals often use elements from popular anime shows as inspiration. This includes characters, settings, and even particular plot points. Some prints even include animated sequences created specifically for the print. This gives the impression that you're looking at a scene from the show itself. 3. Pop Art Translations of Anime Characters and Conclusion Digimon Keychains are a popular item for collectors, and there are many different styles to choose from. In this article, we will show you how to make an anime keychain that is both stylish and functional. We will provide you with all the information you need to create your high-quality anime keychain, including templates and step-by-step instructions. What types of sports are there in the ZR universe? And have knew ones appeared with the time line passing?
Of course.
Much like Wingball, there's Skyball. The mechanics are the same but played in the air and the ball is passed around with tails.
There's Gemcorn- collecting the most crystal popcorn. (Based on the minigame in Spyro Riptos Rage)
Roarshow- A contest between the four elements. A coordinated flight and element show with the goal of reaching the highest score from judges.
Double Dive- A game about diving from the air and again into the water.
Omega Cards- Two teams matchmaking cardgame.
Then the element specific sports:
FIRE
Solar Reach- Shooting the furthest fire bomb.
Nova Surf- One Fire dragon using rocketfire to fly pulls another Fire dragon "parasailing" behind them. The fastest team wins.
Ember hoop- A fireball is passed around between three teams to score goals through hoops of fire. The fireball disperses into the hoop to score.
ICE
FrostFall- Shooting diamond shards from the air down on targets.
Freezestreak- Ice skating race.
ELECTRICITY
Wraithwing- One dragon is the Wraithwing and the others hide from it. Whoever is found last wins.
Blitzstrike- Played during a storm. A Electric dragon hides in the clouds and creates the most convincing natural thunderbolt it can. Others playing try to guess which bolts are real and which are element.
EARTH
Riverball- Played stationary in the water, not letting the spike ball touch the water before reaching the goal.
Tumblelock- Rolling down a hill as an Earth ball. Whoever rolls the farthest wins.
Democrash- An Earth dragon rolls into an earth ball and smashes into rocks. The bigger the rock the greater the points.
That's what I could come up with for the time being :)
