The incredible urge to downsize all of my family’s clothes the the things we wear the most is soo compelling. Like we keeps 5 items of each price of clothing and donate the rest… I can’t be the only one that thinks this, am I?

Crystal owned a home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for 18 yrs. and decided she needed a change, so she went tiny and moved to this 190 sq. ft  studio.
Tumblr media
Her decor is inspired by a photograph of her mother from the '70s.
Tumblr media
Her favorite part of living in this tiny space is that she gets to see all her favorite things when she wakes up.
Tumblr media
Plants are an important element in Crystal's home.
Tumblr media
The kitchen is super-compact.
Tumblr media
A shelf next to the fridge adds much-needed kitchen storage
Tumblr media
Even though the space is small, Crystal goes bold with the patterns.
Tumblr media
To keep it looking open, Crystal hung a beaded curtain on this tiny hall that leads to the bath and is big enough for a dresser.

Downsizing (2017) Review
potential spoilers ahead...
This movie had the potential to have a really good story about so many things, for example, classism, environmentalism, overpopulation. It could have been an amazing apocalyptic story too, especially once they introduce apocalypse theory shortly after the halfway point. But instead they went and made it a nothing movie with a slight romance, which to me makes no sense and is just poor writing. The ending negates every chance this movie had at making any kind of statement or commentary on literally anything. It almost feels like despite having characters straight up mention global warming, overpopulation, even going as far as making class divide jokes they never realized they could actually say something. All the building blocks are there, they are just sitting in the dialogue unutilized. Even if the lack of social commentary was a deliberate choice they still could have had a much better movie by just sticking to an apocalypse story. Instead the apocalypse is only mentioned at the very end and the MC decides to just "live" life at the very last second, literally leaving the supposedly apocalypse safe bunker, to get with a girl who he's barely even had an actual conversation with because neither of them speak the same language and made no attempt to learn.
In all honesty, the movie doesn't suck that much (I wouldn't even wish it upon my worst enemy, but details) it is just extremely frustrating to waste over 2 hours on something that had the potential to be Something instead of being just nothing. The actual story, jokes, and concept aren't mind numbingly boring, they're just an ok experience that a wasted potential turned into a terrible experience.

i watched the movie Downsizing the other day. It had a lot of interesting material, well thought out details, and then it just gets totally sidetracked by climate doomerism?
in the movie they discover a method with which they can shrink down plants and animals by several orders of magnitude. like these adults are now 3 inches tall.
they market it as the answer to climate change. smaller people produce less pollution, and consume less resources.
Well, no. they actually market it as a lifestyle of luxury. because everything is way cheaper for small people, you can liquidate your assets, and retire in tiny luxury.
and... how about the tiny people cleaning the tiny houses?
so we get this really cool reveal of where the impoverished small people are living, and what their conditions are like. We meet a woman who was a climate activist in vietnam, who was downsized against her will, and escaped prison in a tv box. She lost her leg in the ordeal.
i'm a big fan of her character, but i wasn't a big fan of some of the jokes made at her expense.
but the movie goes off to norway, literally in a tiny boat that would not be sea worthy. and here in norway they grapple with the news that "It's Too Late" and there is no reversing climate change.
thankfully the little colony in Norway has built a bunker to escape it! And suddenly the movie is way more interested in this bunker and climate doomerism than it is in the very interesting ideas this movie is sold on!
I wanted the movie to examine the class relationships among the small people. Who's making all this tiny furniture? It's too small to have been made by human scale people. Like making consumer products at that scale is in no way cheaper than their full scale versions
THEY HAVE TINY IPHONES
AND THEY WORK EXACTLY THE SAME THEY JUST HAVE A STUPID LITTLE ANTENNAE
WHO BUILT THAT PHONE PAUL
