“wha ---  oh.  hey.  no.  robin, i promise i’m not.”   he’s not sure how, exactly, he and robin buckley became friends.  maybe it was the weird band kid solidarity, or their shared stint at the hawk  (  before robin had gotten herself fired in spectacular fashion  ), or maybe it was simply their shared difference.  something hard to come by in hawkins.  but, regardless of how it came to be, he’s always glad for her company, glad to have her there to fill his silences with her chattering when they’d otherwise become suffocating.

setting his camera aside, chris turns to give robin his full attention, leaning back on his hands.  “there’s just genuinely not anything to report, right now.  dad’s... the same.  gramps is still up my ass about cutting my hair, and ma’s still working all the time.  just... more of the same in the wright household.”   robin knows his situation  ---  is probably one of the only people who knows his situation.  she’d probably be the only one he’d tell if anything changed.  “open book for you, buckley, you know that.”

Why would he? It was in his nature, even if he knew that Yang was fully capable as a fighter and a warrior, he couldn’t help his protective nature at times. Rather he take a blow than the ones he cared about, not wanting them to be hurt in such a manner. Better him than them in his opinion. What was one more scar on his body anyway? He had plenty of real estate to spare still.

Even with a deep gash running along his stomach, blood escaping past fingers pressed against it and applying pressure, he was still smiling and joking. God, that was a good slash. Burn and hurt like hell, but he pushed through that pain like always. Still standing and still ready to fight if necessary. Even with his vision blurring at the edges.

Focus. Breath. 

Steady even breaths. Ignore the pain. Stay alert and stay sharp.

“You okay?”

Ryoma asked, giving a soft and worried look to the other. Concerned for her well-being rather than his own in the moment, wanting to make sure she was alright. The irony of that all things considered, but his safety was always second to those he cared about. Reckless as that was and had been told.

   First  ,  to  assuage  potential  concern  despite  that  not  being  the  question.  “  It  looks  far  worse  than  it  is.  “  A  reference  to  the  bleeding  wounds  the  have  stained  the  crisp  white  of  his  outfit  crimson  ,  and  left  a  few  drops  behind  on  his  way  to  the  medical  area  to  treat  his  own  wounds.  He’s  seen  it  done  before  ,  he  knows  what  to  do.  Still  ,  even  he  can  acknowledge  that  it  was  a  sight  far  from  pleasant.  With  the  dragon  slayer’s  sense  of  smell  ,  that  probably  made  it  all  the  worse.

   A  sigh  indicated  his  intention  to  reveal  what  it  is  he’s  done.  “  I  took  a  commission  early  this  morning  ,  something  with  a  creature  description  I’d  never  heard  of  ,  but  it  was  to  be  done  in  the  dead  of  night.  So  I  slipped  out  to  do  so.  And  I  did  encounter  it  but  my  memory  held  no  references  to  what  it  was.  Nothing  even  close.  “  A  rare  sentence  to  hear  him  say  considering  all  the  books  he  read  and  stories  he  listened  to.  “  As  you  can  see  ,  it  bestowed  an  unwanted  gift  on  me.  “  A  gesture  to  his injured  arm  and  shoulder  after  he’d  worked  off  the  coat  and  vest.  

   “  I  stunned  and  relocated  it  so  at  least  it  should  not  be  a  problem  for  the  village  seeking  help  anymore.  “  Success  was  a  necessity  to share  as  well.  “  That’s  all.  “  Now  his  attention  turned  to  gathering  the  necessities  to  properly  treat  and  bandage  the  wounds.  “  It  won’t  affect  me.  “  No  one besides  Sting  and  potentially Rogue  would  know.

“there really isn’t anything to talk about.”   not anything she’d consider important, anyway.  certainly not anything worth eddie getting worked up and doing something stupid over.  sure, there’s a smear of blood above her lip still, but that’s just because she hasn’t had the opportunity to duck into the bathroom and wash it off yet... and she’ll probably be bruised tomorrow, but this really isn’t a big deal.

pursing her lips, sally deliberately turns her head away when eddie reaches out, probably to inspect her face for himself, and breathes out a sigh.  “it was an accident.”   it definitely had not been an accident.  “the ball probably just slipped out of his hand, or he missed a shot, or something.”   like she hadn’t seen billy hargrove bark out a laugh after he’d nailed her right in the face with a basketball.  “this doesn’t require retribution, okay?”   because, while she loves him dearly, she knows eddie would get his ass beaten in that fight.

“i can live with that.”   he’s been saying that since middle school, and never once has he said it convincingly.  although, given the poisonous glare he’s giving her right now...  kit meets eddie’s aggravation with a crooked grin and a cackle, dancing out of reach when he takes a swipe at her, and nearly bumping right into jeff as he scurries by for his pre-show preparations.  “oh, relax, i thought you’d be happy!”   that is true, actually, but she’d also anticipated this venom being thrown her way.  she did spring this on him right before his set.

sticking her head around the corner and squinting out into the meagre crowd, kit spots the little surprise she’d arranged for eddie posted up by the bar, looking distinctly apprehensive.  the sight makes her laugh again, though it’s more of a giggle this time.  “i think steve looks great in his new corroded coffin t-shirt, personally.”   he’s also wearing eddie’s battle vest, which hadn’t been part of her plan, but she’s delighted by it all the same.  “did you notice the eyeliner...?  some of my best work.”
