#SatireSaturdays Most experts say that #Saturday was named after #Saturn. There is reasons for this, but there's a compelling case for an #AlternateViewpoint. Notice, Saturday is the only day of the week not named after some deity in the #TeutonicPantheon. They say there wasn't any that matched Saturn. Is that true? #Linguistically, there is a candidate. #Saetere was an agricultural deity associated with the act of sowing. A form of his name in German, actually means "to sow" amd/or "to be sown." The root word of his name also carries the meaning, "to be humorous." It's from that root that we get the modern English word, #satire. The root word is really quite old, for even the Greeks have a cognate, #satyr. The fact that Saetere is associated with agriculture along with satire AND the fact that the common name of a well known #trickstergod, #Loki, is absent from that corner of the world, which indicates that Loki could have taken on a different name, demonstrates that #conventionalwisdom may be an instance of the proverbial #jokeisonus. #JacobGrimm, at least, thought so. Letting go of Conventional Wisdom

How do you do it? Is it possible? 

I read a Holstee article today that was actually therapeutic to read, as a lot of them are. In the last couple of years I’ve really given due respect to the idea of busy-ness-is-ruining-our-lives. It’s hard, very hard, I realise to remind myself that conventional wisdom is perhaps not okay. 

Conventional wisdom: If you’re busy and go after a lot of things, you’re doing well. 

Conventional wisdom didn’t know that the technology of this time would make our boundaries super permeable, and that we our lived experience would be bombarded by so many forms of communication that our options would kill us.

Unconventional wisdom: It’s a shared illusion sometimes, when people meet in forced situations, like family, work, college reunions, that they have somewhere else more important to be. It’s a tireless impulse to project that they are happy and their lives are filled with purpose and that they are too busy to relax and be in the present.

I keep reminding myself of this but I’ve noticed that unless I write, talk or share this idea with others, aka practise it, I won't knock conventional wisdom. It’s like  getting good at anything, you have to keep at it, keep practising it.
