I do think he visits his mom because he does miss his mom.

Toby's always been a mommy's boy.

Also, knowing that his mom is all alone and all that abuse she's been through with her husband, the death of Lyra, even the death of her husband, and thinking that Toby is dead after the fire, Toby feels horrible and wants to be there with his mom.

Since Toby doesn't know where his mom is, he visits Lyra's grave, hoping his mom shows up at the same time, he's there. When she did show up and saw Toby, she cried and went over to hug her boy. Toby hugged her and started crying as well.

After, reuniting with his mom, his mom gave him her new home address. Toby visits his mom about two times a week.

His mom also cooks him his favorite meals, which are German dishes.

In my au, when Toby met Connie for the first time again he was with Clocky. Since Toby couldn’t remember Clock had informed Toby of who Connie was. What she was like. And Toby was ecstatic, wanting to reconnect with his long lost mother.

They went to her house late at night. When Connie answered the door Toby burst in and started rambling. Reminding her of who she was, how much he missed her, etc. And Connie was staring at him in fear the whole time.

He noticed this, and tried to reassure her, promising he wouldn’t hurt her- but Connie had already backed away to the counter and grabbed the phone. Toby began begging her not to call the police, eyes wide with panic, promising over and over again that he wouldn’t hurt her- but it was no use.

Clockwork had to practically drag him out when the cops started coming. They made it to a safe space to hide, and Toby broke down into tears. Sobbing. Whimpering about how he’d lost everyone, how it was all his fault. How crushed he was that his own mother was scared of him. And Clocky just sat there holding him, unsure of what to say at this point. Just whispering comforting words into his ear, keeping him close to her chest.

Okay I already made a post about a scenario like this but I wanted to share the actual canon version of Toby meeting Connie in my au because the other was just a drabble i thought up 👍

I thiiink I headcanoned Toby being from Minnesota, USA.

But over all Toby likes to brag about his german roots despite only know the curse words that Slender mutters under his breath.

While Toby's mom is still alive unlike many other of the manor's parental figures, Toby is not allowed to let her know that he's alive.

It would detrimentally mess her up, knowing her son not only killed one person and lit the neighborhood up with arson, but now he does it for a living alongside many other mentally unstable individuals.

It would also wreck her not knowing if he was or wasn't alive during dark periods of missions where he's not allowed contact with anyone besides Slender.

But Toby does visit her secretly, not face to face, but he looks upon her new life from the bushes. He makes sure her new husband is treating her well, and the kids are always tucked in good night from his spot in the trees.

He cries often when he peeks in on her life, watching her smile and laugh unlike the latest years that he saw her.

No one in the manor knows of her personally, Toby mentions her in stories once in a while as he does Lyra, but no one ever presses about either of them, knowing it's sensitive.

But one day he got closer than he should have, on accident of course.

He visits Lyra's grave often, and he brings snacks and likes to talk to her about his life since the last time he visited.

It happened to be Lyra's birthday, and Toby's mom was visiting as well.

Toby was sitting and eating animal crackers, completely caught off guard when footsteps started approaching. He put up his hood just in time to hide his identity.

His mom came up and stood right beside him, and Toby was frozen, locked eyes with that little dash between the dates of Lyra's life on the headstone.

"How'd you know her?"

And Toby's heart just...shattered on the spot. He could've broke down, could have yanked down his hood and sobbed into his mom's arms, could just ran away.

But he didn't.

"She helped me a lot in school."

"Hah, yeah, that definitely sounds like her. Lyra was my daughter. She was a beautiful thing, inside and out."

Toby simply nodded. A moment of silence passed and she fixed a faux flower in the vase.

"They say it gets less painful as time goes on...but a parent should never have to bury their child." She sighed, glancing over at the hooded stranger, "Life doesn't stop hurting, hun. You just have to learn to deal with it and continue on with a smile."

Toby quietly started crying at this point, barely holding in his sobs. But alas, he nodded along.

"My son, he was born with a condition where he couldn't feel pain. But I could tell he was hurting. Inside." She shook her head, and sighed away the negative thoughts clouding her head.

"I wish you the best, sir, I'm sure that Lyra would be happy you're here to visit on her birthday."

He nodded again, not able to get any words past his lips.

He sighed heavily once she left, and was finally allowed to break down at the foot on her grave, wailing into the dirt.

The only pain he knows is a broken a heart.

Physical appearance: is a 5'6 male with a scrawby build and little body hair. Facial wise Toby has brown medium lenght hair with brown eyes, a eyebrow slit, a large piece of his left cheek missing and unkept chin stubble with mustache. He also has noticable acne on his face

Current clothing: Toby is often seen wearing his sister's jacket which is a furlined jacket that has a dark beige / light oliver green on the lower portion and blue aztect pattern on the upper portion near the shoulders and upperchest. underneath the jacket is a black knitted turtleneck sweater and a necklace containing the ashes of his sister. He also wears dark grey baggy jeans, dock martian boots, Black rubber gloves that siton top of the jacket's sleeves, a set of orange lensed goggles and a black hard plastic face mask.

Story

Tobias Rogers always had an extremely rough life, Having trouble with his temper and paying attention in class, Getting picked on by other kids which often leads to fights which usually end up with Toby being suspended. Eventually Toby ended up becoming homeschooled after these constant fights but that doesnt mean things got better. Toby's dad Frank was extremely abusive and uncaring often physically venting his anger out onto his family, Toby was often the main punching bag due to Toby's pain tolerance, Unable to process most pain which made Toby completely numb to most things. Although his mother Connie was more forgiving, she was often extremely busy at work, Working as a nurse for the town's hospital which meant She was gone for most of the day. And his sister Lyra who Toby looked up to alot, She was always there for him when no one else was often helping him with school and taking him on long car rides whenever things got heated within the Roger house.

 On March 17th 20## Things got extremely heated in the household. Which caused Toby to bite down on his cheek extremely hard, From what started as biting soon turned into chewing and eventually Toby chewed a considerably large hole out of his left cheek, When his mother noticed she instantly had Lyra drive him straight to the hospital while she attempted to settle things down. After a trip to the hospital and on the way home, After small talk Lyra said she had plans of moving out with Toby, So Toby and Lyra can live in a more stable household while their parents lived in the current house in hopes of helping Toby with his current mental state. However before the two could talk further Lyra suddenly crashed the car 'which sent Toby flying out of the car' or so he thinks so since he was far away from the crash scene when he woke up, being around twelve feet away from the car and inside the forest. When Toby returned to the scene Toby only found Lyra's mangled corpse, Traumatizing Toby forever.

A month later things had worsened for the Rogers family, Frank's violent episodes starting to become a daily event while Connie is struggling to balance her work schedule often leaving Toby alone with his father. After a violent argument with his father while Connie was away, Toby knocked out Frank and tied him up in a chair before using an old rusty axe to butcher Frank in a frenzy of hatred and rage towards his father. After murdering his father and realizing what he had done, Toby would proceed to pour gasoline throughout the house which led to a massive fire which burnt a good portion of the neighborhood, killing two and injuring seven citizens in the process. Amongst the flames and smoke Toby stood there within the burning house accepting his fate, But before he could be taken by the flames he spotted something in the distance, Something that sensed Toby's hatred and desperation to live, A tall faceless humanoid like entity wearing a black suit that had a strange vein like pattern that went throughout the suit, The figure's face being completely smooth and blank with no indication of a skull underneath, Their pale white skin having a strange like texture something similar to the white skin of a birch tree. Upon seeing this entity Toby blacked out and soon woke up deep within the forest, He woke up to find the faceless being towering over him. It saw something in him and Toby owed it his life ever since it saved him. Now Toby serves the "Operator" as one of It's proxies, Obeying every task it gives Toby no matter how violent it is

[semi canon to my au] Toby timeline lore:

16: Toby is one of the newest proxies amongst the crowd, It took him a month or two but he finally managed to be invited to the mansion by Slender. Toby at this time Toby is extremely anti social not really bonding to talking to the other proxies since alot of them were very aggresive or hostile

18: Toby has been a proxy for around two years now. Of course after growing used to his surroundings he's starting to feel abit more comfortable often displaying a hyperactive energy since he wasn't really allowed to when he was at his house. Toby doesnt really seem to interact with most of the proxies besides Tim who is basically Toby's father figure / teacher

19 current age: Toby has been a proxy for sometime now, Although he basically owes Slender his life he's slowly but surely losing loyality to him, The guilt and realisation of what he has done is catching up to him quickly. He's honestly thinking of possibly leaving Slender but he's scared of what will happen to him. It's also around this time where he goes back to his burnt down house to find a metla box containing his sister's jacket which he now wears pretty much all the time

21: Around this time is where Tim has left Slender behind, Possibly joining Zalgo in the great 'war' between Zalgo and Slender, Of course in leaving slender he also left Toby. Toby has become extremely depress around this time now and back to his anti social self, Now that his father figure has left him to fight against Slender Toby has sort of started to hate Tim for leaving him behind. Toby really looked up to Tim and his morals but all that is fading away as his hatred and pent up rage is returning

Age 25: Toby killed someone possibly a target for Slender and regrets it alot. For awhile Toby let his hatred blind him and it ended up with him killing someone who didn't even deserve it, someone with a wife and kids and bexause of him they now don't have a father or husband. A week after this event Toby barely manages to escape Slender, One of the proxies clawed Toby's right eye and now he has bandage patch covering that eye at all times

26: Not even a year later and Toby has been found by police and found guilty for his crimes. Ending up in a mental hospital where he spends most of his days rotting in a padded cell [Dawning the iconic age 30 design]

28: Two years Later after soaking in his cell thinking about what he's done, A masked figure by the name of Skully frees Toby and reunites him with Tim who has been fighting against Slender with a few other proxies who have turned against him and his mother who has been helping the cause as a field medic. At first Tim and Toby butted heads alittle after Tim left him behind and started dating his mom but eventually the two start working together like they use to, Their father son bond growing once against and for awhile, Connie, Tim and Toby are a small happy family. However during the final hours of the great war between Zalgo and Slender Toby is killed by Slender after landing a fatal blow to Slender's physical form. Toby is buried and Tim and Connie are the only ones left of the Roger family. Slender is forever imprisoned win the deepest depths of Hell and everything goes back to normal for the Roger family

They used to be a Slender proxy, but ended up running away after years of being traumatized by Slender. Nowadays, he works at a corner store as a cashier, and tries her best to get better and move past everything that happened, while also staying under a false identity.

They are bigender, ace, and biromantic, and he goes by he/she/they.

Him and Clockwork are dating on and off, but are very close regardless.

Toby isn't the biggest fan of serious musicals but finds comedy musicals to be a weird comfort for him. His favorite is TGWDLM specifically because he loved Paul's character and because he related to Alice. 

Frank is the reason Toby started to become so distant and angry as a teenager even before Lyra's death, because Frank would treat any emotion Toby had as something that made him weak. 

Toby ends up getting very defensive when people look down on her or consider them weak or in need of help because of how much Frank had beat down his confidence and self worth, and made him feel and believe he was completely alone and that he should never need help. 

While Toby doesn't kill, he does help Nina and BEN get in trouble a lot through pranks as well as just helping them light shit on fire-

They have ADHD. 

Toby used to doodle a lot and left his old notebook for Clockwork when he ran away.

Her and Toby were planning on running away together when Lyra was 17 and Toby was 14, since Lyra finally got her driving license, and Toby and her had a lot of money saved. Frank caught them though and took away Lyra's keys for two years.

Them and Lyra shared a room as teens. Every night, they would talk while they tried to sleep. This also helped when Lyra had nightmares. They also used this time to plan when they ran away. 

He is horrified by being in a car, and driving, and will always panic if he has to get in a car. Nina tried to help teach them how to drive but realized Toby was either always constantly shaking or was constantly going like five miles an hour. 

Toby never let people over to his house growing up, especially not Natalie or Nina, since he felt very scared that they would see his home life and judge him or worry too much.

They burnt their hatchets, hoodie, and mask in a bonfire once he escaped Slender, but he kept his goggles for safekeeping and for memories sake.

Connie tried switching Toby over to homeschooling after elementary school due to Toby's Tourette's and ADHD causing him to be unable to work in a regular school environment and getting severely bullied, but after two years Connie realized that this made Toby's mental health drop almost even more due to his isolation, and being forced to spend more time at home with Frank caused him to get even more aggressive. Toby was then switched back in highschool, but had a long IEP, as well as the option to go home early from school if he was too stressed out by the environment, and to just finish his work at home. 

Toby does not have fingerprints because he accidentally burnt his hands in starting the fire. 

Toby hates being called Tobias or Rogers, and prefers just Toby.

In Dwellers canon; Toby has not kept in contact with his mother in order to keep a low profile, plus she'd call the cops on him. However, he does visit her (albeit she's unaware) at night, sometimes he'll follow her into grocery stores if he somehow happens to be out in the day.

She never knows, he doesn't really want her to know but they both miss each other very greatly. Toby misses her present self (who hasn't changed much) and she misses the boy she raised and tried to love and take care of...
