I'd have loved to know what happened at the conformatorium the morning after this.

Warden Wrath: Now....if anyone asks, WHAT do we tell them?

Guard #1: It was an army! One hundred-no! TWO HUNDRED wild witches broke their way in here!

Guard #2: Each one as powerful as the Owl Lady, if not more!

Warden Wrath: AND?

Guard #2: We gave it to them as good as we got.

Guard #3: We slew each and every last one of them, no matter how many of us were defeated!

Guard #1: And THAT'S why the human was alone when she reached the Owl Lady. We DEFINITELY didn't all get beaten by a child.

Warden Wrath: Good.

Guard #3:....What do we tell Frank's family?

Warden Wrath: That he died honorably in battle.

Guard 1: Yeah! He may have went down, but he took over a dozen of the wild witches with him!

Guard #2: He did NOT get taken out in one shot and then slowly and pitfully freeze to death. Absolutely not what happened.

Warden Wrath: Excellent.

Guard #1:....Do you think that humans going to come back?

Warden Wraith: Titan, I hops not......

Okay, I know the whole "only a human can enter" was really only in there to give Eda a reason to take Luz on that first mission, but I still have questions!

Warden Wrath put King's Crown in there to lure Eda in. But she couldn't get in there without Luz. Is there a way for Warden Wrath (or Eda) to shut that thing down without entering? Because otherwise Warden Wrath's whole plan falls apart.

Did Belos initially built that thing to store his personal secrets? Did he just leave it, and Wrath repurposed it to store contraband?

(But of course, if there's an easy way for a witch to shut it down, then Belos can't use it to keep his secrets safe.)

Lastly. We know that humans can enter. But what about Hunter? Would that barrier treat him like a human, or would it recognize him as a grimwalker, a magical being and keep him out?

At first I never why in S1 E1 the contraband was surronded by a shield only humans could pass through because there's like no humans in the boiling isles so thats kinda a weird feature? But rewatching it again made me realized that it's so Phillip can go in and no one else. Big brain.

Idea from brainstorming an AU where Vee ends up in the human realm as a baby and finds her way to the boiling Isles as a teenager and meets other basilisks for the first time.

All the other basilisks (I headcanon the Inspector/Greater Basilisk was Number 1) were shown in the show, so it bugged me that we had no idea what happened to number II. I came up with this design and I have to say I quite like it.

She grows up having little to no idea of what she is or where she came from, so when she stumbles into a world of magic that overloads her senses, she's completely overwhelmed.

When she goes to the Conformatorium, she follows a strangely familiar scent down through a hidden passage and into where the Basilisks were held before they escaped.

That's where Number II comes in. They were the one to help Vee escape to the human realm, so when they were recaptured, they were treated with far more inhumanity. Their subsequent lack of strength meant they weren't able to escape with the other basilisks later on.

This drawing is a loose idea for the scene when they reunite, and Vee gives Two the motivation (and magic) to escape.

(I really don't promise that I would be able to have the effort to make this a full story. I'm inconsistant at best, and I've never written or posted a full piece of fanfiction before.)

been reading a lot of Owl House fanfic lately & have some Hunter Thoughts (long post + cw for discussion of child abuse):

run into the take a couple of times now that the other Coven heads (in particular well-meaning characters like Darius & Raine) should have done more to help Hunter. and while i do agree that uhh almost every adult in the show let Hunter down i have 2 responses to that

FIRSTLY: i could be wrong (i watched s2 in a pretty choppy manner) but i don't think there's any indication that Hunter's abuse is happening anywhere other than behind closed doors. it's very possible that the outward image of Hunter & Belos's relationship is 'this is the emperor's special favourite nephew who he dotes upon'.

it's like. self-evidently the case that Hunter is being neglected emotionally but probably no-one had any reason to think he was in physical danger. remember that most people were under the impression that Belos was a benevolent ruler & the minority who'd figured out what his game could have reasonably assumed that for all his faults he wouldn't hurt Hunter.

Darius expresses concern about his social life but seems to read uhh nothing whatsoever into this interaction:

which suggests to me that he hasn't seen any prior indication of physical abuse & just assumes Hunter is being very dramatic!

(side note i just noticed Flapjack covering his eyes with his wings gdlkjfhglfjh omg Flapjack)

& all of this is very plausible! let's face it not all abusive parents IRL give off obvious red flags to anyone external to the situation.

SECONDLY: to be blunt, the position Belos put Hunter in was such that i don't know if anyone could have helped even if they wanted to.

Hunter being elevated to the position of Head of the Emperor's Coven is clearly an unusual move & one that was made in direct response to Lilith defecting. It's a clear signal that Belos doesn't trust his remaining Coven Heads and wants to keep a closer eye on them. they have good reason to believe that the Golden Guard could u know. report any of them to Belos as a Traitor at any time.

whether Belos would actually automatically believe him is another matter but like, as stated above, they don't know how Belos treats Hunter behind closed doors. for all they know one word from Hunter could get them idk petrified.

their behaviour towards him isn't nice but his presence is both threatening and also kind of insulting. he's wrapped up in the internal politics of the court in a way that makes it difficult to anyone to respond to him with anything other hostility. which is uhh not a position Belos should ever have put his 16 year old ''''nephew'''' into.

for all Darius knows if he starts being nice to the Golden Guard & relaxes in his presence he's gonna end up saying something that'll get back to Belos. he doesn't let down his guard around Hunter until seeing u know. multiple clear signals that he's actually willing to lie to Belos.

like. Hunter is dangerous! bcos we as the audience are so familiar w this Hunter:

easy to forget that most people in the Boiling Isles only know this guy:

he's a very real threat to everyone around him by virtue of being the emperor's Right Hand! just look at how Odalia reacts to him showing up:

people are actively afraid of the Golden Guard & him being 16 doesn't make him any less of a deadly threat. he's functionally untouchable. trying to suggest that hey, maybe the head of the police force shouldn't be a 16 year old boy is liable to get you thrown in the conformatorium.

like. even if someone did put together that Hunter was in danger from Belos what are they gonna do about it? u can't exactly call social services on the God Emperor.

thinking about what the light glyph means in luzs story. its her first step towards being a full blown witch. its part of her guilt over helping belos. its part of her bond with eda. its in the opening, in some of the earliest promo images, in the promo art for the series finale. it was in the fireworks she set off in the conformatorium in ep 1 and in the stars at the knee. it means wonder and the gift of the titan. its the first tangible proof that humans can do magic. it helped her find the titans blood in gravesfield, and, again how she helped belos inadvertedly. its her signature spell. its, in a way, her.

but then he saw you again, a few weeks later, walking around as if nothing was wrong as you went about some menial task

alive and breathing and definitely not made of stone

and he was intrigued and approached you and teased you and you fought

or, well, you squabbled

he wouldn’t call it a fight because he certainly wasn’t trying and it was more about antagonising you — about having fun

until you beat him and he was forced to run and lick his wounds

the golden guard defeated by a single wild witch. it was shameful!

and that was when he started to see you as a threat, as his equal and that was far from a good thing

and he hated you for it. for beating him, humiliating him, sending him back to the emperor with more than just a bruised ego

so he made it his personal mission to apprehend you and take you back to the conformatorium himself

but he began with just watching you as you went about your daily life — observing you and learning your patterns and habits and weaknesses as an individual by blending into crowds and buildings and nature

making a note of everything that made you squirm and frown and bristle so he could use everything at his disposal the next time you fought

and that next time came far sooner than he anticipated and you battled over the boiling ocean, flying and dipping and diving and teleporting as you exchanged spells and dealt out blows as good as you got

only retreating when it started to rain and you were forced to seek shelter — which you’d noticed first and warned him with a biting remark that had him turning red from more than just embarrassment

and he hated you for it

well he didn’t hate you for it, but he had to hate you

because you were a wild witch and he was the golden guard and he hated wild witches and you hated the emperor’s coven, which hated wild witches

and that meant he had to hate wild witches and that meant hating you

you and your endless sarcasm and your mastery of magic and your ability to match him in pace and ferocity in battle

okay maybe he didn’t hate you — no matter how much he tried to will himself to

and maybe that was worse — to lay awake at night thinking about a wild witch and worrying about your safety when he should be hunting you

- she honestly thinks you’re just super adorable

- this simple thing called common sense goes over your head and to her, you’re just a witch version of king

- def gives you the “who’s a whiddle guy” look when looking at you for too long

- she will tease you relentlessly for your innocence, and again, your dumbass won’t always understand or you’ll pout

- now for the danger part 😭

- Luz believes you can handle yourself just fine but the poor girl also has a hero complex

- she has made to help you with any tussle you somehow manage to get yourself into

- a lot of ‘oh nos’ leave her mouth when you give her the smile that tells her you most likely did something…again

- Luz will most definitely help you from any problem and support you always, but i know for a fact this girl will tease you about it later til’ your whole body is red with embarrassment

- only titan knows how this boy doesn’t lose his mind sometimes

- he completely adored you but you worry him with how innocent you can be

- honestly, you both probably have the whole ‘dumb x smart’ dynamic going on (you’re not stupid, just super naive but super cute so dw)

- this boy will be explaining something and if a question pops in your head, you ask it. sometimes he’ll pretend to me irked, but he loves sharing any information he knows

- SO MUCH FLUFFFFFFF

- he knows he’s uptight sometimes but he tries his best with you to grow and be lenient with your innocence

- it’s honestly a surprise when you two start officially going out because he is a very big rules and authority person abut because of the trouble you get into it’s sort of out of the norm for him

- now, after the whole belos ordeal and you’re all in the human realm hunter would be different around you a bit

- More laid back and chill

- he’s such a smartass about your innocence, cracking jokes about your questions and acting a bit of a know it all

- He’d be happy to answer questions you have without problems

- his ass would trick you and answer the questions wrong and would just watch the chaos that would ensue from this

Hunter thought the weekends in the Emperor's Coven were nice because he loved getting out of the castle to go on missions.

I’m just imagining him dealing with some criminal on one of those missions. He does his usual Golden Guard spiel, successfully catches them, etc etc.

And on the way to the Conformatorium, he is just the most UNSTOPPABLE INFO-DUMPING CHATTERBOX THAT EVER EXISTED BECAUSE THAT POOR BOY IS SO DESPERATE FOR SOCIAL INTERACTION AND HE LITERALLY CAN'T HELP HIMSELF.

“So…what do you do for fun? When you're not busy smuggling illegal fireworks, I mean.”

“Have you been a criminal for long?”

"I couldn't help but notice that your staff technique was a little sloppy. I'd watch your balance the next time you try to take a swing at a seasoned Coven Scout. Bend your knees a little to lower your center of gravity."

"You know, I've read that witches with red hair are more sensitive to pain, but paradoxically have a higher pain tolerance. Is that true, in your experience?"

"Psch, don't worry! Seven out of ten of Warden Wrath's prisoners are released after ten years. So yeah. Keep that chin up!"

“They say arsenic tastes like strawberry. Hmm. Wonder if that’s true.”

“…and that’s part five of my theory on how palistrom wood creates life. Now, if you will recall what I was saying about palistrom xylem fifteen minutes ago…”
