I've noticed that it seems like most Christian Witches either are Catholic or at least follow a lot of Catholic practices?
Coming from a Protestant family, I've yet to find any Christian Witches that have a Protestant background.
I'm curious: What about Catholicism more easily lends itself to Christian Witchcraft vs. Protestantism (that doesn't seem to lend itself to it at all)?
Also, if you're a Christian Witch that comes from a Protestant background, I would very much love to discuss it with you!

Holy Dogs— Catholic Folk Saints
catholicism has an insanely diverse history and culture. with more than 1 billion adherents across the world, there’s bound to be variance in worship and commemoration. one of the best examples of this is catholic folk saints.
simply put, folk saints are saints of the people. they are holy figures who are honored as patrons by a local population, but not officially canonized in the vatican.
some are legends. some were old gods from polytheistic religions. some were real people. and some, believe it or not, were dogs.
that’s right! a good boy can sometimes be so good, they’re saintly.

St. Guinefort of Lyon
feast day— august 22nd
patronage— infants
st. guinefort was a greyhound who was said to live in 13th-century france. according to legend, guinefort was a loyal companion for a knight who lived near the city of lyon. one day, the knight went out to hunt. he left his infant son at his house, under the watchful eye of guinefort. when the knight returned, he found the infant’s room in chaos— the cradle was overturned and blankets were torn. the son was nowhere to be seen, and guinefort was sitting in the corner with bloody jaws.
under the belief that his son was eaten by guinefort, the knight drew his sword and killed the dog. only then did he hear his son crying. turning over the cradle, the knight realized his son was alive and well. lying next to him was the body of a viper, covered in dog bites. guinefort had killed the snake to protect the infant, making a mess of the nursery in the process.
the knight, grieving his mistake, took guinefort’s body and dropped it down a well. he constructed a shrine out of the well to honor him. when the townsfolk heard of the dog’s martyrdom, he was venerated as a patron of infants. mothers would often visit his shrine if their children were sick, praying for his protection.

Negro Matapacos (Black Cop-Killer)
feast day— august 26th
patronage— protestors, street dogs
negro matapacos was a stray dog who lived in the streets of santiago, chile. he would most notably hang around university campuses. he didn’t technically have an owner, but he was cared for by a woman named maría campos. she would feed him and give him a place to sleep. every morning before he left, she would tie a red handkerchief around his neck and bless him.
from 2011 to 2013, nationwide student protests rocked the country. as the demonstrations persisted, police began to turn to violent forms of crowd control. to the student’s surprise, there was soon a stray black dog protesting alongside them. he would lash out aggressively at approaching police, but was kind and protective towards the civilian protestors.
he soon earned the name negro matapacos, which translates to “black cop-killer” in english. it was a title that reflected his job perfectly.
during his participation in the protests, he showed absolute resilience against police violence. he would accompany protestors into tear gas, and even endured getting hit with water cannons. as the protesting continued, matapacos never retreated.
remarkably, he survived the demonstrations. the black dog gained media attention, and was honored as a hero and revolutionary icon. matapacos went on to live a happy life. he died on august 26th, 2017, attended by his caregiver and vet staff. according to various sources, the canine sired 32 pups before his death.
in 2019, protesting once again erupted in chile. although matapacos was not able to be there, he certainly was in spirit. his image was drawn on countless signs, and he was the subject of street art by revolutionary artists. he was a patron saint for the working class of chile, and is honored as such to this day.

Hey so I used to practice witchcraft as a devout hellenic pagan for five years before converting
Now that I've been catholic for a bit I wish to bring some of those traditions back- but like catholic style.
How have you done that?
Honestly, my approach has been from the opposite angle, witchifying little Catholic things, which is way easier than some Catholics would like you to think. Things like setting up altars for saints, praying before a meal, and praying to specific saints for specific things have parallels in many forms of paganism.
Some little things I do include:
•Sign of the cross as a quick blessing for myself or others (ambulances, broken down cars, cats at bedtime, etc.)
•Set an atmosphere while praying, especially for a rosary. Light candles/incense, put on some ambient music, and get in a comfy upright position (kneeling or sitting, use as many cushions as you need)
•Check your local dollar store or Catholic bookstore for saint candles. The more obscure ones will be tough to find, but at least in my area, most grocery stores have unscented Jesus and Mary candles that last quite a while.
•If you're feeling crafty, make your own rosary! You can use anything from genuine crystal beads and jump rings to pony beads and nylon cording. Match the materials/colors to your intentions or the general vibe you're hoping to achieve in prayer.
Generally speaking, you don't have to combine these two aspects of your faith, but you're also free to overlap them as much as you like. There's no wrong way to pray, so treat it as anything from a quick check-in with God to a proper ritual. Ultimately, what works best for you is for you to discover. Hope this helps!

Sleeping Saint Joseph
Saint Joseph was known to receive messages from God (through an Angel) in his dreams. As such, he has a devotion known as “The Sleeping Saint Joseph”. And here is how you can incorporate this devotion into your spiritual/witchcraft/folk practices.
Write your petition on paper, fold it away from you if you are petitioning something out of your life, fold it towards you if you are petitioning something to come into your life. Place it under the sleeping Saint Joseph & pray that he takes care of your need as he dreams, allowing you to sleep in peace - Knowing Saint Joseph is working it all out!
Dress the paper with olive oil/oils of choice & burn corresponding incense for extra oomph. To add in some candle magic - Dress a candle & pray over it. Hold the paper and wave it around the lit candle (carefully) 3 times clockwise to bring in. To banish something out of your life wave it 3 or 9 times counterclockwise around the candle. Visualize and/or feel what it would feel like if your petition were already true. Pray to Saint Joseph (I posted one of the prayers below). Then place it under your sleeping Saint Joseph.
If you don’t have a statue, a candle with his image, a printed picture of the sleeping Saint Joseph or prayer card or even your own drawing/painting are all great options!
Saint Joseph, pray for us! <3

Necromancy

1: When going to a cemetery, ask the Psychopomp or death deity of your choice for permission.
2:If you visit a graveyard and it has doors, you must knock on the door three times. as a form of respect and to tell the deceased that you have just arrived and that you want to pass.
3: After step 2. You can leave offerings at the same door you knocked on for the dead
4:Offerings: coins, coffee, The alcohol: Whiskey, Rum, Brandy, legumbre .
5:If you are going to collect graveyard dirt or dust. it is important that you know how that person died that is, if he died of natural causes, by engermerdo if he died calmly or violently. for this you could use some divination method, such as: the pendulum. and ask “Is the filth of this tomb suitable for my purpose?” If you get a positive answer, then ask “Is (the spirit of the tomb) willing to sell me some of its filth?” Again, if you get a positive answer ask "Is the spirit willing to accept my offering of (offering) in exchange for some of its dirt?" If you get a positive answer, then make the offering and collect the dirt. negative answer, either 1) move to another grave or 2) return to the same grave at another time.
6:If you don't have a pendulum handy then you can simply walk towards the center of the graveyard. Mentally contact the spirits around you, explain your situation and ask if there are any spirits that would be willing to help you complete your goal. So you can feel a psychic pull towards a certain grave. Once a grave is chosen, strike the headstone three times and place your palm on it mentally declaring your goal again asking the spirit if it will help you. If the spirit grants permission, then you can go pick up the dirt. Next, you will cut a small section of grass and then remove the dirt about 4-6 inches down. Never take more than you need. When you're done, place a silver penny in the hole, then replace the grass. Put your dirt in a container like a plastic bag or glass jar. Remember to label the container with the name of the deceased, as well as the dates of their birth and death. Upon returning home, you may want to put the dirt on a plate or other flat surface to dry if it's wet. Then, too, through a sieve or strainer to remove any rocks, roots, or plant matter.

Humans desperately crave spiritual connection, ritual and belief, but with today’s society’s lack of self discipline, truth and responsibility, people are turning to witchcraft, occultism and paganism where they can make up their own religion and worship themselves rather than be transformed by truth

Ya know I never understood why the church says certain entities are just evil. Like, ok. But they tell me things like do my homework, take a hot bath, relax, don't stress yourself. I've got dragons telling me I am worth it. I am worthy of love and kindness. "BUT THEY'RE NOT OF GOD!!!" ok but wouldn't God tell me the same thing???
"YEAH BUT THEY'RE NOT OF GOD"
Sooooo what then? They tell me to eat well, do some exercise, love myself. So it doesn't count???
"NO BECAUSE THEY'RE EVIL"
But why would something evil tell me to practice kindness to others and to myself???
"IT'S A LIE. THEY'RE TRICKING YOU TO HATE GOD"
ok, but the dragons don't mind if I worship the good Lord. They even pray with me if I ask them to.
See I don't understand it. UPG or not, every voice I've ever had in my head, be it dragon or some other entity, has never told me to hurt anyone. It's always been a message of love and kindness for myself and others. So why, on God's green Earth, would an evil entity tell me to love myself, to love others, and to be a kind person??? Is that??? Not???? the antithesis??? of Evil????? I never understood it. If God is Love, then if I practice the love dragons tell me to practice am I not practicing the teachings of God? Never made sense.

Mary, Queen of Angels (and thus, Queen of the gods)
Please keep in mind, this is all my opinion.
In catholicism, there are two types of spiritual entities: Angels and demons. (though demons are, of course, a type of angel.) Any kind of spiritual being is either an angel or a demon.
This would make the gods of ancient pagan peoples angels. Specifically, they could be classified as Virtue, Dominions , Powers, Principalities, and simply as Angels.
Dominion angels are traditionally believed to govern the movement of planets, stars, and other celestial objects.
Virtue Angels control the elements and are known as the spirits of motion and help govern natural elements like storms.
The Powers are angels that have the power to control evil forces, and to oversee the power of humans, such as kings. The Powers are also known as the angels of creation, because they are concerned with the order of the universe and the plurality of causes.
Principalities are the angels that guide and protect nations, or groups of peoples, and institutions such as the Church.
and at the bottom of the celestial hierarchy are the Angels. The Angels, in my opinion, could be considered Daimons in Greek Mythology. These are our Guardian Angels, or Personal Daimons. In the Hellenic faith, a Personal Daimon is a guardian that protects, guides, inspires, and helps people attain good fortune.
With all that beings said, Mary is often called the Queen of Angels. This means that all angels, and thus the gods themselves, are under the jurisdiction and authority of Mary Herself, the Queen of Heaven. How wonderful is it that God is so Good that He has given us not only all His angels for us, but given us a Mother, the Mother of God Himself, who oversees these powerful spiritual beings for our benefit.
Glory to Christ and to His Immaculate Mother.

Stop Malicious Gossip
To stop a person/people from spreading false accusations, gossiping in general & to protect against ill will cast towards you from both enemies known and unknown...
Tumblr media
Get a black, red or white candle (I prefer black for this personally) and dress the candle with your oil of choice. I use blessed olive oil and holy water. Any protective oil works. Start from the center of the candle and work the oil out towards the wick and the bottom of the candle (symbolizing banishing from your life). Before dressing your candle you may also carve sigils, words of power and symbols into the candle.
Once you have dressed your candle pray Psalm 12, Psalm 35 & Psalm 64 over the candle. You can do this once or add a little more oomph and pray them each three times, symbolizing the number 9 (which is great for banishing). If you know the person gossiping you can write their name on paper or write “My Enemies, both known and unknown” with “you are silenced in the name of The Father, The Son & The Holy Ghost. Amen”. Then draw an X over their name three times, as you say "name here (or my enemies, both known and unknown), you are silenced in the name of The Father (draw X), The Son (draw X) & The Holy Ghost (draw X). Amen". Add banishing and protective ingredients to the paper, such as black pepper, salt, angelica root, vervain, rosemary, bay leaves, etc. You may also add a circle of these ingredients around your candle.
Then take the paper and start folding it, 3 or 9 times. Make sure to fold it away from you. Light your candle and drip 9 drops of wax onto the paper as you pray/state your intentions over the paper again, sealing their silence away from you. You can also wrap the paper with twine/thread (red or black would be my choice), 9 times. Make sure to wrap it away from you, not towards you, binding them away from you. Then place it under the candle as it burns. Allow the candle to burn down and state your intentions again as it burns. “I am protected against all enemies known and unknown. I am protected against all evil eye. I am protected against all ill will cast towards me. I am protected in the name of The Father, The Son & The Holy Ghost. Amen”. After the candle burns down, burn the paper. Then take the ashes away from your home and bury them or simply blow the ashes out of your hands, away from you. A crossroads is a good option, but anywhere away from your home is good. You may also flush the ashes if that's a better option for you.
And there you have it. This is my personal spell and you can add or take away whatever you see fit. :)
