Conservatives shared a video of students staging a walkout protest in Utah this week, with online commentators claiming that the students were protesting “the furries that bite them, bark at them, and pounce on them,” according to Chaya Raichik, who goes by “Libs of TikTok” online. Another conservative said that the students were particularly angry that “when a student retaliates, they are the one who gets suspended.”

But there’s no evidence of any of that happening. The conspiracy theory has its origin, according to the Salt Lake Tribune, with a misinterpretation of a message sent by the administration of Nebo School District. The message was sent after a bullying incident at a district middle school where one group of students said things “that were overheard by others that the administration felt were inappropriate and shouldn’t be said,” according to district spokesperson Seth Sorenson. One of those groups of students wore headbands “that may have ears on them,” but Sorenson said that the students don’t identify as furries. “These are pretty young kids,” he said. “You’ll have students that show up with headbands and giant bows; you’ll have students that show up dressed as their favorite basketball player, or baseball player. That’s just what kids this age do.”

[...] Some parents in the district apparently misinterpreted the message and started a Change.org petition with the title “Students for Humans at School, not animals aka furries,” demanding the school ban furry costumes, even though the message didn’t have anything to do with furries or furry costumes and the district said that students weren’t wearing furry costumes to school. The petition still got 600 signatures, and some parents pulled their children from school. Others encouraged their kids to protest, which led to the walkout.

Local far-right Utah State Board of Education candidate Cari Bartholomew’s husband, Adam Bartholomew – who hosts a conservative radio show – went to the protest and recorded students and parents talking about how other students wore animal and dinosaur masks to school. In the video, even though the students were talking about “masks,” Bartholomew asked questions about furry costumes and “dressing up like a furry.” Bartholomew asked them if their parents knew they had walked out, and they all shouted, “Yes.” “And I heard that they were putting litter boxes in the girls’ bathroom,” one student shouted in the video. The idea that schools are installing litterboxes in restrooms for student-furries has been a part of the rightwing mythos for years. Schools across the U.S. and Canada have had to respond to parents and local residents outraged about the litterboxes, despite there not being any evidence that any school has done this.

Gideon Gorelieu was born almost nothing to a pair of indentured servants in French Louisiana: his father repaired the local magnate's fishing fleet, his mother a maid in one of the minor sugar baron's households. he watched his two older brothers die in a hurricane that wreaked horror on their coastal community, and his younger brother never lived past childhood –– dead of sickness and starvation, and his mother died of grief soon after. with a decent knowledge of fishing boats and weather patterns, he took to sea on a merchant vessel as a green hand, but showed promise and eventually made his way up through the ranks. as an officer, he was instrumental in staging a mutiny against their captain, and the ship became a profitable smuggling operation rather than a legal merchant ship. with her dark grey sails and unique capacity for escaping the notice of the law amongst the sandbars and coves, the schooner took a new name: La Petite Revenante.

for a while, Gideon bent his head to the new captain, but in an outburst of his soon to be infamous temper, killed his only competition in a duel of honor. when they put to sea again, he raised the prospect of piracy: any dissenters had their throats slit and were tossed to the sharks, leaving only the most merciless, and callus, among them. after a few minor prizes, cutting their teeth as buccaneers and filling out their ranks, Captain Gorelieu set his sights on a Spanish frigate. the revenante's crew swarmed aboard, and slaughtered almost every single man, leaving only a few to swim ashore and tell the tale of the newly-named CAPTAIN BARTHOLOMEW GORE.

Gore rapidly became a successful pirate with his flagship, La Tuerie, in his command, taking several prizes that he allocated to the command of his officers and building out a sizeable fleet. the Louisiana governor, wishing to keep Gore as an ally rather than an enemy, offered him a commission as a privateer, a plot of land, and some political influence if in exchange he would show mercy to the colony and share his ill-gotten wealth with them instead of elsewhere. Gore could not refuse, and began construction on the place which put fear into the hearts of all those enslaved and indentured who worked on it: Bloodmere Manor. to separate the privateer who now lived in privilege and wealth ( and hard won fear and respect ) in New Orleans from the bloodthirsty pirate captain, Gore occasionally used the name Roberts in other ports like Nassau, Port Royal, and Havana, but the people of Louisiana always attributed the stories of bloodshed to their own captain.

on one of his returns to New Orleans to check on the progress of his new mansion, Gore dined with the governor and a few of the city's socialites and was introduced to Miss Priscilla de Claire, a lovely, innocent nineteen year old heiress who –– kept in the dark about Gore's piratical exploits –– was charmed by the older captain who could be most gentlemanlike when he wanted to be. he began courting her, swaying her with expensive gifts and endless attention, and the two were set to be married as soon as the manor was finished. Gorelieu began integrating himself more completely into landed society and into his role as a plantation owner, befriending the de Claire's and most of the other New Orleans families with a by-and-by more polished exterior. but by night, he drank heavily, and every time he closed his eyes began to be haunted by the faceless masses he had put to the sword.

on the very night they were wed, Gorelieu hosted the de Claire's and other prominent families in the richly-decorated mansion, but while he entertained his in-laws, Priscilla snuck off alone to explore her new home. in the basement, she discovered a chest full of relics of his pirate's life: weapons, and maps, and worst of all, the bones of his enemies, kept like souvenirs and not all of them cleaned. she confronted Gore, horrified, threatening to have their marriage annulled. Gore was incensed. ( alongside the loss of his love, he stood to lose her dowry, too ) in a fit of rage, he dashed his bride's head against the wall, and bricked her body up in it.

while the de Claire's searched the bayou endlessly for their missing daughter, assuming she had balked from married life and fled the obligations of becoming his bride, Priscilla ensured her husband could not enjoy his newfound wealth, or find any peace in the expansive house: her ghost tormented him to madness, until he fled again to sea ( hoping to escape some suspicion, as well ). but he found no respite from his bride, there, either, and the visions followed him until –– his ears filled with endless screams –– he hung himself from the yardarm, a ghostly specter on a ship of death, leaving the mansion empty of everything but ghosts.

basically,,, max is the wealthy and incredibly bored husband of esteban, who he doesn't even love and then!! when on a skiing trip with his friend kelly (bc the kid is a crucial part and i can totally see penelope shooting a stranger with a water gun and i don't care if you don't like kelly, the point is i didn't have to invent a kid), he meets liam,,, who then turns out to be kip?? who then turns out to be some guy named fred??? and then it's daniel :)))

the three guys trying to get the money are fernando, romain, and checo and lewis is the Big Bad who also pretends to be the government guy (not that i wanted lewis specifically to be the bad guy, but his name in the film is hamilton bartholomew and i thought it was perfect)

also i originally had checo as the terrible dead husband but i couldn't find someone i liked to go with nando and romain so i moved checo and then put este bestie as the terrible husband,,,,, though now that i think about it, lance might be a better choice bc he has ties to both nando and checo 🤔

but that first meeting scene between cary grant and audrey hepburn was so delightful "i can't meet anyone else until someone dies" and it just felt very maxiel to me and it sparked the whole rabbit hole

He could be used for that sitcom trope where one of the otp starts dating someone new who is just like the other half of the otp and everyone notices it but them.

The Final Goodbye

Crowds of mourners line the street at the beginning of the King’s Last Road, which leads to the St. Bartholomew Cathedral where members of Lunaria’s Royal Family have been laid to rest for centuries. This will be HRH Crown Princess Calliana’s final destination after her tragic passing.

Members of HRH’s family walk behind the procession as it heads to the cathedral starting with her husband, the Crown Prince, King Vincent, and her three children Nicholas, Charles, and Annaliese, who is being carried by her father. Also in attendance are Their Majesties the King and Queen of Windsor with their son, Prince Kellan, and TRH the Duke and Duchess of Andale.

The Crown Princess’ twin sister Lady Katarina Rousseaux walked the procession with their younger brother Lord Louis, Earl of Carys at her side. They are followed by River Quinn and his rumored new wife Amina and his younger brother Prince Matthew. 

Lastly, we spot Sawyer Quinn, the Duke of Andale’s eldest son, and his young wife Lady Lilah Beauchamp-Quinn. The two flew in from Bordeaux late yesterday evening and are rumored to be staying at the Bordeaux Embassy instead of Windenburg Palace with the rest of Swayer’s family.

After the funeral a small remembrance ceremony and dinner will be held at Windenburg Palace. Only the closest friends and family will be allowed to attend the event, which will be closed to the public.

Charade - Stanley Nolan

*warning: possible spoilers ahead*

Audrey Hepburn was the queen of her time. In a sense that, she was influential, stylish, gorgeous, and an inspiration to many, but mainly, she was one of the best actresses to ever hit the screens. She is able to prove this once more, by showing off her admirable skills in the film, Charade, directed by Stanley Nonan. I recommend this movie to anyone with an appreciation for classics and love of mystery. I give it a huge thumbs up.

One day, upon returning from a ski trip, Regina Lampert (Audrey Hepburn), discovers that her husband has been murdered. Soon after she falls for Joshua, also known as Adam Alex, Peter, Brian (Cary Grant) or whatever his name is. Right after his death, the couple realize they are soon being chased, as well as followed, by the late husband’s ex World War II companions, for a quarter of a million dollars, that she had no idea about. The ex comrades: Tex (James Coburn), Scobie (George Kennedy) and Gideon (Ned Glass) are threatening Regina in order to gain the money. Regina is continuously being hoodwinked and thrown many plot twists. When each of the comrades are killed off one by one, Regina is getting more lost into the idea it could be her own lover playing her. When Regina finally notices that the stamps are what cost the fortune, she rushes over to return them to the alias Hamilton Bartholomew, (Walter Matthau) who is actually Carson Dyle. Once thought to be dead. As any happy ending goes, the two lovers succeed and get away from the horrible situations once put in.

The mystery of if Charades is more of a murder mystery or romantic comedy lies simply within the plot. It is a murder mystery that has tropes of a romantic comedy. The film has a main theme of murder, which it revisits several times throughout the plot. Starting with the death of Regina’s husband, then all of his ex culprits. The main love interest remains a movie the entire time as well. With his many names, background stories, and careers. The amount of plot twists the film contains is an extraordinary number as well. Besides all the name changes, but all of the drama with Hamilton actually being Carson Dyle, whose team Joshua is really on (especially at the very end), and how all the money was contained within three stamps. The romantic part is very one sided most of the time, and is only mildly touched on, especially when Regina is so distraught over how he is constantly lying to her. It was a very brilliant murder mystery that has romantic touches here and there.

Audrey Hepburn really is able to relate to the character in ways of distress, and we can really feel true pain for her. It is always nice to feel immersed into a story because the acting is well done, but when somebody is able to put you into the movie with them, it can really put you at a loss for words. It felt like you were helping her solve the mystery, and could have you just as lost at most points. Making you think you knew what was going to happen, but it quickly changed up. In other words, the movie was not predictable and kept me on the edge of my seat. Excellently well done, 5/5.

After Roberts’ successful attack at the port of Trepassey, he sailed southeastward into the Atlantic, settling into the main shipping lanes bound for New England. Roberts’ ships sat there for around a week, scooping up around a dozen prizes in total. From them they seized goods and provisions, and most importantly, more men. Among those prizes taken was a London-based merchant called Samuel under Captain Samuel Cary. From the Samuel Roberts took four men, including the highly experienced seaman and navigator, Henry Glasby. Like many senior officers, he had no desire to join the pirates and even refused to sign the ship’s Articles. However, Roberts was determined to make Glasby a member of his crew, and he was assigned as navigator of Good Fortune. Glasby would remain a reluctant pirate under Roberts for the next two years, and would later end up playing a crucial role in the trials against Roberts’ men. The Boston Newsletter published a sensational account of Capt. Cary’s misfortune aboard the Samuel, and it would go on to become one of the best known accounts of capture by pirates. The account reported: “The first thing the pirates did was to strip both passengers and seamen of all their money and clothes… with a loaded pistol to every one’s breast ready to shoot him down… There was nothing heard among the pirates all the while, but cursing, swearing, damning and blaspheming… For if it should chance that they should be attacked by any superior power or force, which they could not master, they would immediately put fire with one of their pistols to their powder, and go all merrily to hell together!” According to the account, Roberts took 40 barrels of gunpowder, two cannon, and roughly £10,000 sterling worth of the choicest goods Cary had on board. . . . . . https://www.instagram.com/p/CRRmQyijMXh/?utm_medium=tumblr
