(S)he Told Us Everything!
Chapter 48 of Can Life Be Beautiful (Instead of Big Fun)? for @mlbigbang is now posted!
Marinette allowed Luka to pull her out of the room and out of the hospital. They were halfway back to the Liberty when her brain caught up with them.
“Luka,” she whispered as he continued to tug her along. “Luka!”
He didn’t stop until she dug her heels into the brick and resisted.
Knocked out of whatever trance he was in, Luka stopped and looked back at her. “Let’s keep going.”
“Where?”
“The boat.”
“But we should talk about-”
“I know but I don’t think we should do it out in the open.”
Marinette nodded and allowed him to walk them there and below deck. He checked his mom’s room and Juleka’s side of the room before they settled on his bed, completely alone.
The moment he was next to her, Marinette burst into tears.
Everything was so fucking screwed up!

Chapter 42: I Chant, I Prayed, But God's Not There
Chapter 42 of Can Life Be Beautiful (Instead of Big Fun)? for @mlbigbang is now posted!
Training Luka was put on Marinette’s long list of things she had to do when given the time. Sadly, she currently didn’t have time as the next day, the school mourned the lost jocks.
Oh, joy.
The moment she walked into her homeroom and heard sobbing, Marinette was already over it. She didn’t even bother looking towards where the majority of the class surrounded Alix and Mylène as they grieved their loves.
Taking out her books, Marinette’s ears unfortunately had no choice but to partake in the conversation.
“I just…I don’t know how Ivan, my big teddy bear, could do something so horrible!” Mylène sobbed onto the red-eyed Alix’s shoulder.
“I know what you mean,” Alix agreed. “Kim was abrasive and crude, but it’s hard to believe that he forced himself on Lila.”
He did it to me, Marinette thought snidely. They both did.
“But they admitted it,” Rose said gently.
“She’s right,” Chloé said and turned in her chair to smirk at the class. “And you should just accept that your boyfriends were cowardly trash.”
“Chloé!” Sabrina whispered only to be met with a hand in her face.
“I mean, who else would commit a crime and then off themselves the moment they get caught? They were ridiculous, utterly ridiculous.”
The class was deathly quiet as everyone gaped at Chloé…except for Marinette. She already knew that the blonde was a heartless bitch…even if she was right.

One of the things that's hard for me writing CLBBIOBF is making sure I'm sticking with the timeline... The one I created, lol. Like gosh, I should've let time be ambiguous!!! Instead, I gotta stick to it so I don't mess myself up! Lol

Storm’s Are Approaching
Chapter 25 of Can Life Be Beautiful (Instead of Big Fun)? for @mlbigbang is now posted!
Tikki was worried.
Everything seemed perfect: Adrien was getting some freedom out of his father’s claws, away from his oppressive house, going to school, becoming closer and closer to the people he’d been dreaming of for the last month. But - no matter how good things appeared to be, Tikki just couldn’t shake that little nagging concern. She was incredibly worried about Adrien and his mental health and the obvious stormed that was brewing around them.
She seemed to be the only one.
“Here you go, Sugar Cube.” Plagg’s voice called to her and she turned to see him slipping through the crack of his Chosen’s hatch door, a beautiful peach-flavored macaron with dots of white chocolate offered to her. “You’re so lucky my chosen thought ahead and made you some amazing treats. I bet it beats any of those fancy sweets Sunshine gives you.”
Tikki rolled her eyes because they both already knew, from the handful of times they switched Miraculous over the last few years, that she preferred Marinette’s baking to the expensive artisan truffles and Scottish shortbread fingers Adrien managed to sneak. Tikki had actually been so ecstatic that the two had met in real life not only because Adrien was a million times happier, but also because Marinette was always supplying him with the best pastries in Paris.
But that was beside the point at the moment.

The saddest thing about writing Beautiful is that not all of my favorite Heathers lyrics fit as titles for chapters! Lol

Chapter 24: A Myriad of Scars
Chapter 24 of Can Life Be Beautiful (Instead of Big Fun)? for @mlbigbang is now posted!
The next day, Lady Noire met Mister Bug on their normal roof top for patrol.
Despite the nervous energy buzzing in her, she smiled at her partner as she noticed his bright appearance. “Good morning, Bugaboo. Aren’t you glowing today?”
Mister Bug just smiled. “Am I?”
“Yes. Did you get lucky last night?” she joked, but when he blushed and said nothing else, her curiosity kicked in. “Did you get lucky last night?”
Mister Bug looked at his feet and shrugged before replying shyly, “Maybe.”
Lady Noire was conflicted for half a second before excitement exploded out of her, and she hugged him. “Congrats! Does that mean you confessed to one of your crushes?”
He nodded and his face matched the color of his suit. “Both, actually. And we’re gonna see if we can work things out between all three of us.”
Noire only felt even more excitement. “That’s so amazing! I’m so happy for you.”
And truly, she was. Sure, there was some sadness at the thought of them being a thing of the past, but there was so much more happiness at the thought that Mister Bug was finally going to have the love in his life that he’d always wanted and deserved. She truly hoped that his partners were amazing and treated him right because Bug deserved partners who would do anything for him.
Just like hers.
That thought made her think of Luka and Adrien, which made her think of that horrible night, which made her think of Lila… who was now dead because of her.
Because Marinette smothered her with a pillow.

Chapter 21: Step Into My Candy Store!
The next morning, Marinette’s stomach was doing flips.
Despite having a careful plan in place and Luka by her side, she was still very nervous about how the thing with Lila was going to play out.
Would she be able to convince Lila to erase the pictures without stooping to Plan B? If not, would Plan B actually work? Who’s to say the original copies of the pictures were on Lila’s devices? Maybe Lila was telling the truth for once?
No. That sounded too much like right for it to be true.
As they came up the backstairs of Lila’s townhome as Lila instructed, Marinette forced herself to calm down.
This would work. She’d get the pictures deleted one way or another, and no one would find out that she was Lady Noire. Her secret identity would still be a secret, protected. Even if Lila did know and tried to out her, Marinette knew her reputation was still bad enough that a casual rude comment here, a faux pas there and possibly making out with Luka where any and everyone could see would, hopefully, be all that was needed to dispel the school of such a ‘ridiculous idea’.
After all, no way Trash Queen Marinette could also be Lady Noire, half of the duo that routinely saved Paris.
Taking a deep breath, Marinette knocked on the designated door.

Chapter 32: And Every Word Is True...
Chapter 32 of Can Life Be Beautiful (Instead of Big Fun)? for @mlbigbang is now posted!
CW: Mentions of Violence/Violent thoughts
The weekend passed quickly and quietly as Marinette moped around the bakery, helping her parents since they were pissed when she walked into the bakery the morning after the event in the same clothes as the day before.
“People will think we don’t have enough money to clothe you right!” Sabine said.
“If you’re spending time with friends at all hours of the night, we don’t care. Just remember to always take clothes with you so it won’t make us look bad,” Tom added.
Good to know she could be out doing whatever and whoever and they’d be okay with it as long as she wasn’t seen wearing the same clothes.
Anyways, Monday was here again and Marinette sat at her vanity table, hand frozen in mid-air from where it had been brushing her hair. Everything had been alright leading up to the moment where she looked at herself in the mirror, remembered what happened Friday night, and realized she would have to face Kim and Ivan.
What would happen?
What would they do?
Would they take what happened in stride? Would they try to get revenge on her? Corner her and finish what they started?
Or would they let it go? Lick at their wounds and pride while keeping a wide berth from her, hoping she doesn’t kick their asses again for what they tried to do that night.
She could only hope for the latter… even as a voice - the same one that had encouraged her to keep kicking and never stop - whispered hopes for a conflict, for a reason to see them bleed.
To see them suffer.
Still, Marinette remained frozen, staring at the dark circles under her eyes and the even darker bruises along her chin and wrapping around her neck. Even with having a bag of frozen peas attached to her neck for the last two days and no akumas to interrupt the healing process, her throat was still covered in angry black and blue marks that were painful to the touch.
Even more painful to remember.

Chapter 17: I Think That’s What They Call ‘Third Base’
True to Lila’s word, the next month was actually pretty good. It was the smoothest sailing Marinette had experienced in years.
No one threw mean words at her. No one tripped her in the hall. No one glared at her. No one ruined her stuff. No one bothered her.
It was a little bit of the opposite. People smiled at her in the hallway. Some waved when she walked in the room. They asked her what she was making when they found her designing something new. It was…pleasant.
Too pleasant.
Now, Marinette wasn’t stupid. She knew that it was all because Lila was pulling strings like the puppet master she was and everyone was following her lead like the sheep they were. So even if their kindness and friendliness seemed genuine it was not, and Marinette wasn’t going to relax or be fooled by it. She kept her guard up and only let it down around her two favorite people.
Speaking of them…
“Good morning!” Marinette chirped as she found them standing at the foot of the steps outside of the school.
“Good morning, Marinette.” Adrien smiled as he leaned down to kiss her cheek, a greeting that sent her heart into a tizzy just like when Luka grabbed her hand in a way of greeting. “Glad to see you here on time this morning.”
Marinette laughed. “I have a reason to be early now since my favorite guys are always here early and I wouldn't want to miss a second of their company.”
Adrien blushed as Luka smiled.
This was how it’d been for the last two weeks. They were her best friends but a lot of their conversations walked the thin line between friendly and flirting. Marinette wasn’t sure when it happened, but it felt so… nice to have this banter with them and know that nothing she said would be misconstrued or twisted into something it wasn't. It made her feel as if their friendship was airtight and could handle anything and it was hard for her to believe at times since she'd only known Adrien for a month and Luka for two. The only other person in her life that she'd had a connection as immediate and strong and meaningful with was with Mister Bug, but there would always be something missing as they couldn't share everything and couldn’t explore the depths of their feelings due to them being superpowered partners…
And Master Fu’s warning about not knowing each other’s identity.
Which was too bad because Marinette could honestly see Mister Bug being the person closest to her heart if given a chance, a real chance. He was kind, sweet, funny, and brave. He never let anything get him down and, even now when everything was finally looking up for her, Marinette could use such a bright and hopeful person in her life who cared for her no matter what.
But now, Marinette had Adrien, who was almost sunshine incarnated.
While Luka was the moon on the darkest nights.
What more could a girl dream about?

Chapter 20: In Here It’s Beautiful
Later that day, Marinette collapsed happily on her bed. She and the guys had spent the day doing their usual: watching movies, jamming out, and playing games. Even with the hangover and aches in her body from the wild party from the night before, it was still the best day.
It was amazing.
And then to get home and not have to worry about her parents? Or helping out in the bakery since they decided to shut down for the weekend?
Simply amazing.
So Marinette spent the afternoon cleaning her room and working on a super secret project for Luka’s upcoming eighteenth birthday while Plagg roamed freely through the house, exploring since no one else was home. She honestly felt her day couldn’t get any better… until she received a text.
Thinking it was one of her boys, Marinette excitedly opened the message only for her face to drop.
Unknown Number: Good morning, Marinette. I think I have something you need to see.
A strange text from a strange number.
Shaking her head, Marinette ignored it and went back to work. A few seconds later, there was another ping.
Unknown Number: You can ignore me if you want, but don’t blame me when this secret is shown to everyone in Paris.
That sent a chill down her spine that wasn’t helped when her phone began to ring.

Chapter 19: It’s Big Fun!
Someone pounding on a door was what brought Marinette to consciousness.
“Stop knocking!” she muttered and groaned when whoever it was didn’t stop. She then realized her mouth felt weird: dry and itchy, like someone had shoved cotton balls down her throat. “Ugh.”
“Are you awake?” A voice hit her ears and she managed to blink her eyes open to see Luka’s face. He was a bit blurry - which was probably due to the sleep in her eyes - but his hair was a little messy, as if he’d just woken up, and he was leaning over her, looking into her face.
That was funny. Why was Luka in her room? Her parents would never allow a co-ed sleepover and she didn’t remember sneaking Luka up to her room so she must still be dreaming.
Squeezing her eyes shut at the bright light that flashed for a moment, Marinette groaned. “Dream-Luka. What are you talking about?”
His laugh washed over her. “You think I’m a dream? I’m flattered.”
There was a feather-like touch against her cheek, too real to be a dream, and Marinette felt her eyes snap open. Luka’s bright blue eyes, shining with mirth, were the first thing she saw. Blinking more, her eyes adjusted and she saw the distinct rafters of the boat above her and the drawn blue curtain pulled around them. She could also hear the soft waves of the Seine and a quiet snore next to her. That’s when it clicked.
“I’m on the boat?” she questioned.

Chapter 10: Showing Up Here Took Some Guts
The rest of the morning flew by and Adrien felt like his head was spinning just a little from all the teachers, classmates, and all the general rules he’d never have to learn before because studying in a classroom was quite different compared to sitting in his house’s dining room with a slew of private tutors. Even though it was a lot of information and Adrien still hasn’t managed to get a grasp of it yet, he could already tell he was going to love it here.
Especially when, after grabbing his lunch from Gorille outside, he spotted Marinette at a table in the cafeteria. She was sitting next to a guy with dyed hair and the two seemed friendly. It made Adrien happy that she had at least one friend… well now two, since they’d become friends that morning.
Not even a few steps towards the table in, Adrien sighed inwardly as Chloé’s voice rang out. “Adri-chou! Adri-chou! I saved you a seat!”
Looking over his shoulder, Chloé was waving wildly and patting the seat next to her. Circling around her at her table were the same people from the morning: Alya, Nino, Lila, and a couple of other students from their homeroom class that Adrien hadn’t been introduced to as of yet.
For a moment, Nathalie’s words rang through his head and Adrien honestly considered changing his trajectory to sit with them. It would follow all the rules Nathalie had given him: maintaining a close relationship with Chloé and avoiding the ‘outcasts’. It would mean that, if this got back to Nathalie, he wouldn’t get in trouble.
But…
But …
He didn’t want to sit with them.
Adrien wanted to forge his own path, wanted to make his own decisions for once.
So he did.
