Something about Yang and Ruby missing pieces of themselves when they arrive in the ever after, and the way they gain those missing pieces back.

The way Yang would’ve had to give up the feeling of being loved to get her prosthetic arm back from Jinxy which, ironically, is how she lost her flesh and blood arm in the first place. She jumped in to save Blake back then because she loved her, and back then it wasn’t a fully realised romantic love, but it was there and it mattered. Still matters.

Something about Yang seeing her old self in Herb’s fog, and knowing that she herself is whole and complete, and she doesn’t need to undo the recovery and progress she’s made just so she’s ‘whole’ in the eyes of the world. She said it herself:

“If i’m missing something it’s not because i’ve lost it, it’s because I haven’t found it yet.”

Something about her final missing piece being Blake’s love, knowing that Blake feels the same way about her as she’s always felt for Blake. The two of them make each other better, and they complete each other while also being wholly complete themselves.

Something about Crescent Rose being Jaune’s token of hope that he held onto the entire time he waited for RWBY to fall. His last tether to the Remnant he knew.

Something about Ruby getting Crescent Rose handed to her by Jaune shattering her hope completely. Instead of it being a comfort, it now feels like an obligation. A token of the burden she carries. It worsens the spiral she’s slowly been slipping into since well before Atlas ever fell because now she has no excuse not to fill the leadership role again.

Something about how, ultimately, Ruby chose to have Crescent Rose back because she chose herself. It wasn’t pushed onto her like every other responsibility has been. She wanted to be herself, and she now knows that the girl she chooses to be is enough.

The excitement never truly hits Blake until she gets in the car.

Everything which precedes that moment—making and eating a light dinner; changing her clothes and putting on her makeup; even picking out toys—is calming. Routine. She can pack what she’ll need into her gym bag and carry everything down to the street with a pleasantly detached sort of distance, without falling into daydreams about what any of it means for the rest of her night. It’s all still theoretical. Neatly compartmentalized.

The second she actually slips into the driver’s seat of her old beater of a sedan, though, and the inner pocket of her underwear-style harness brushes just right against her core—the seam and additional fabric deliciously present, even empty of the vibrator it was designed to hold—her blood rushes south, and her head starts to fill with warm static. Here we go. It’s time. Not even the engine taking three sputtering tries to start can ruin her mood; not when she can squeeze her thighs together languidly and picture what’s waiting for her on the other end of this fifteen minute car ride.
