Wonderland
{ Glen Powell x Reader } | { Song Inspiration: Wonderland by Taylor Swift }
A/N 📝: This is my first RPF. May decide to continue writing more. This one had been sitting in my Google Docs for a few weeks. In all honesty, I never intended to share it. But here we are.
TW ⚠️: mentions of death threats and fatphobic comments
⋅•⋅⊰∙∘☽༓☾∘∙⊱⋅•⋅
Speculations were everywhere. Fans getting a little too invested and involved in celebrities' relationships. You’re not going to lie: you enjoyed reading the tabloids but you also knew not all were truthful.
One of the latest was of Glen Powell and his longtime girlfriend. Many were saying he and his latest co-star were looking a little too close for comfort. It didn’t help that his girlfriend posted to her social media that she was never better and posted a song of heartbreak.
There was no proof of anything yet, however, just the thought of a breakup saddened you. You couldn’t help but be a hopeless romantic. Yet you knew you also were hopeless at love.
Here you were in your early 30s, perpetually single and with no prospects. Luckily you didn’t feel like a burden to your parents, as they were both deceased. You also had some money saved up so Lizzie couldn’t judge you.
It was a Sunday when the fans started the speculation on Wobbel.com. You decided to log off the site not to add views to the rumors. Instead, you focused on finishing your dress for the concert of the year, at least in your opinion.
You turn on your playlist and drown out the whole world as you work on your dress. Once the adjustments are done, you head to the gym. Today also marks your third birthday celebrating alone. Nobody told you to move to the middle of nowhere Georgia. Okay fine, it was a small town but you needed a change and a new start after living all your life in a big city.
You chuckled to yourself when the small tv on the treadmill was playing Scream Queens. Of course, Glen would follow you. If only you could get a chance to meet him in person. ‘Like that would ever happen,’ you think to yourself.
After you return home, you decide to watch Top Gun: Maverick as a little birthday treat.
The days fly by and the next thing you know you’re sitting at your seat at the concert waiting for the headline artist to start. It takes you by surprise when none other than Danny Ramirez and his fiancée, Baylie, sit to your left.
You’re even doubly surprised when Miles Teller and his little family of three sit to your right. Miles and his wife Grace decided to bring their daughter Caroline to the concert. You told yourself to breathe and act normal. You even offered them to sit together and you’d move.
“No no, it’s okay. You paid for your seat,” Grace tells you.
“I don’t mind. It’s just two seats being shifted,” you say.
“Auntie Baaaaaayyyyy!” Caroline squeals and scrambles over your legs to get to the other girl.
Miles discreetly tells his daughter to apologize, but you shake your head. “She’s small and excited. I would be like that too.” Pretty soon, Baylie and Grace are making easy conversation with you and telling you the stories of how they met the guys. The four of you start singing and screaming along wince the concert starts.
Halfway through the concert, Miles steps away to take a call. When he comes back, he returns with the one and only Glen Powell. You were a hot sweaty mess. Never in your wildest dreams did you imagine meeting him at a concert.
Flashes started going off around you as the fans spotted them and were going crazy taking pictures and videos of them. You made sure to stay out of the pictures as you weren’t here with them. You even offered to take the pictures for some of the fans, holding back chuckles at some of the girls throwing themselves at Glen.
After the excitement died down, you were able to finish enjoying the concert. At the end of the concert, you exchanged contact information with Baylie and Grace. You give Caroline the necklace you had bought as merch, since she was crying she didn’t get one. Grace insisted you join them for a group picture.
You stood to her right, only to have Glen stand behind you while wrapping an arm around you. Eventually, you do manage to start walking back to your car, only to be stopped by Glen who also wanted to exchange contact information with you. In all honesty, you think nothing of it. You know you’re not his type. You’ll never be his type.
To your surprise, he texted you to make sure you made it home safely. From there it turns into daily text conversations and long FaceTime calls when he’s not on set or with his family. You learn he and his girlfriend took a break to reevaluate their relationship, as well as take time to focus on their respective careers.
Didn't they tell us "Don't rush into things"? Didn't you flash your green eyes at me? Haven't you heard what becomes of curious minds?
Curiosity is what won out in the end. The curiosity of his fans. The curiosity of the paparazzi. It was after the first week of the pictures from the concert went viral that the first wave of hate tweets came your way.
“She’s so fat for Glen.”
“She’s not Gigi or Sydney.”
“I hope she dies for breaking them up.”
Your phone kept ringing from calls and texts that you just turned it off once old friends caught sight of the pictures. You felt bad but you even ignored the calls and texts from Baylie and Grace.
What’s worse is that the paparazzi and over-the-top obsessed Glen fans found and leaked your personal information online. They even started leaving negative reviews on your bookstore’s website. All of them have to do with you being a whore and a homewrecker for breaking up Glen and his girlfriend.
But there were strangers watchin'
And whispers turned to talkin'
And talking turned to screams, oh
But it was too late. You had fallen for him. Truly fallen in love with the man that Glen is, not the public persona he lets others see. You both shared things about your family that nobody else really knew.
That’s when you started getting death threats. It was this that was your breaking point. After a couple of weeks of no contact, you decide to call Glen back and tell him to please clear the air. Your once-friendly conversations turn cold and bitter and eventually, you’re both screaming at each other.
This is what both of you knew would happen but wanted to avoid. Glen does what his publicist says and ignores the comments on social media. And you can’t blame him because it’s his life and job that are involved. However, you wish he would at least fight on your behalf and clear the air.
You had never truly felt so alone as you did now. Everyone in your so-called circle of friends all sided with Glen’s ex. You lost the support of regular customers. Nobody was in your corner, so to speak, defending you.
You slowly shut down every social media page you had, even changing your phone number. Guilt plagued you for not telling Baylie or Grace but you accepted that they were friends with Glen before they ever met you.
I reached for you, but you were gone
I knew I had to go back home
Even though you had changed your number, Glen managed to find your new number and he texted you one last time. There were many days you wished you never opened that text message.
That day you closed the shop early and went upstairs to your apartment and cried yourself to sleep. Of course, you could never blame him, he did deserve to be happy. You just wished it was you who he could be happy with.
Slowly the calls to your bookstore became again about books. The paparazzi all left one day and have yet to return. The hate mail and notes at your front door stopped. When you check the mail a few months after things died down, you’re surprised to find a wedding invitation to Danny and Baylie’s wedding.
You wish you could immediately respond yes as an RVSP but you hesitated. What if he were there? Would rumors spiral out of control and ruin the wedding? Instead of dwelling too much on what if, you take out your notebook and start writing the lyrics to a new song.
You searched the world for somethin' else
To make you feel like what we had
And in the end, in Wonderland, we both went mad
Despite feeling like you would trigger new rumors, you arrived at the wedding venue and sat away from everyone. You could still feel eyes on you and heard people whispering. You kept your eyes on the groom or down at the wedding program.
It was a beautiful ceremony. William and Delilah gave Baylie away to Danny. The happy newly married couple just kept smiling brightly at each other. Glen catches sight of you as he walks back up the aisle after Miles and Grace. You do your best to not react to him, but inside you wanted to run to him and hug him. Your feet and mind however had another idea.
You quickly made your way out of the church through the side door. Finding a private room, you close the door behind you and slide down against it crying. Seeing him but not being able to speak to him hurt too much. It hurt even more when you heard that he was now engaged to his girlfriend.
Your absence at the reception didn’t go unnoticed. What went unnoticed was the pain you felt at seeing all the happy faces full of love that reminded you how alone you were. No friends to drop everything to come to help you. No significant other to share a home with. No parents to comfort you.
With the self-made promise of a new start, you head to your hotel room. You let the exhaustion of the day lull you to sleep, only to be awoken by knocking at your door an hour later.
