Speeding Bonds: A Sainz Siblings Story
Tumblr media
This is my first F1 fanfiction, and I'm excited to share it with you all! It's a bit short, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless. Your feedback means a lot to me, so if you like what you read, let me know! If there's interest, I'll definitely add more to the story. Thanks for taking the time to check it out!
Character: Name: Ji-min Sainz Age: 23
Background: Ji-min was adopted from South Korea into the Sainz family when she was just a baby. Growing up in Spain, she was immersed in Spanish culture but always felt a connection to her Korean roots. She has a warm relationship with her adoptive family.
Ji-min discovered her passion for music at a young age and pursued it fervently. She auditioned for a talent agency in Barcelona and was selected to be a part of a five-member girl group called "Eclipse." Despite her busy schedule as a K-pop idol.
Meanwhile, her older Carlos Sainz Jr. was making a name for himself in the world of Formula 1 racing. Their paths rarely crossed due to their different careers and lifestyles, but Ji-min secretly followed Carlos's races, feeling proud of his achievements yet also envious of the attention and recognition he received.
As Ji-min's popularity as a K-pop idol soared, she kept her family background a secret, fearing that it might overshadow her own accomplishments and potentially cause unwanted attention. However, deep down, she yearned to connect with her brother.
The story:
SMS
Ji-min: Hey Carlos, it's Ji-min. Hope you're doing awesome today! 🌟
Carlos: Ji-min! What's up, little sis? 😄 Everything good on your end?
Ji-min: Yeah, all good here! Hey, I was actually wondering... would it be cool if I came to one of your races? I've been dying to see you in action, big bro! 🏎️💨
Carlos: Of course it's cool, Ji-min! I'd love to have you there cheering me on. But... are you okay with everyone knowing we're family? I mean, it's kind of a big deal to go public with this stuff.
Ji-min: Totally cool with it, Carli! I've been wanting to shout it from the rooftops for ages. 😄 Plus, I'm super proud of you, big bro! Let's show the world what the Sains siblings are made of!
Carlos: Haha, you're the best, Ji-min! Thanks for always having my back. 😊 Alright then, I'll hook you up with a pass for the race. Get ready for the full VIP treatment!
Ji-min: Woo-hoo! VIP treatment, here I come! 🌟 Thanks a million, Carli. You're the best big bro a girl could ask for!
Carlos: Anytime, Ji-min! Can't wait to see you at the race, little sis. Get ready for some serious fun!
Ji-min: Counting down the days big bro! Vamos!
The day of the race:
At the Australian Grand Prix 2024
Ji-min made her way through the bustling crowds, the sun beating down on her as she walked. She was dressed in a simple sundress, a soft pastel blue that fluttered gently in the warm breeze. The fabric flowed loosely around her figure, offering comfort and ease as she navigated through the throngs of people.
A pair of oversized sunglasses shielded her eyes from the bright sunlight, partially concealing her face and adding a touch of mystery to her appearance. She pulled her hair back into a loose ponytail, strands of dark hair framing her delicate features.
Despite the casual attire, Ji-min moved with a graceful confidence, her steps light and purposeful as she weaved her way through the crowd. She kept her head down slightly, avoiding direct eye contact to minimize attention as she made her way towards the VIP area.
Occasionally, she caught snippets of excited chatter from nearby fans discussing the upcoming race and the drivers competing in it. Ji-min couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement coursing through her veins as she neared the entrance, her heart pounding with anticipation.
As she reached the designated entrance for VIP guests, Ji-min took a deep breath, her excitement bubbling beneath the surface. With a confident smile, she presented her pass to the security personnel and stepped inside, ready to witness her big brother's momentous victory firsthand.
Her eyes scanning the crowd for any sign of her brother. She was so absorbed in her search that she didn't notice the people around her, her gaze moving to her phone screen as she typed out a message to Carlos.
"Hey Carli, just arrived. Where are you? "
Lost in her phone, Ji-min didn't notice the figure approaching until it was too late. With a sudden jolt, she collided with someone, nearly dropping her phone in the process.
"Oh, I'm so sorry!" she exclaimed, looking up to see who she had bumped into.
Standing before her was none other than Lando Norris, one of the drivers competing in the race. Ji-min's eyes widened in surprise, recognizing him instantly from his racing gear and signature smile.
Lando grinned apologetically, his blue eyes sparkling with amusement. "No worries! "
Ji-min nodded, feeling a blush creeping up her cheeks. Sorry for not paying attention."
Lando chuckled, waving off her apology. "Not a problem at all." giving her a friendly nod before continuing on his way.
As Ji-min watched him disappear into the crowd, she couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement coursing through her veins. Little did she know, her encounter with Lando was just the beginning of an unforgettable day at the races.
----
Ji-min's heart raced as she finally spotted her brother amidst the hustle and bustle of the Ferrari garage. Carlos stood surrounded by his team, his familiar smile lighting up his face as he greeted them with enthusiasm.
"Carli!" Ji-min exclaimed, weaving her way through the crowd until she reached him. "There you are! I've been looking all over for you."
Carlos turned towards her, his eyes lighting up with delight as he caught sight of his little sister. "Ji-min! I'm so glad you made it!" he exclaimed, pulling her into a tight embrace.
Wrapped in her brother's arms, Ji-min felt a rush of warmth and contentment wash over her. It had been too long since they last saw each other, and she cherished every moment they spent together.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world," Ji-min replied, pulling back to look at Carlos with a beaming smile.
They spent the next few minutes catching up, exchanging stories and sharing laughs as they soaked in the atmosphere of the race day. Ji-min couldn't help but feel a surge of pride as she watched her brother interact with his team, his passion for racing shining through in every word and gesture.

Luca Kaneshiro: Black Cat and Tender Moments
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
REPOST BECAUSE THE PREVIOUS ONE DIDNT SHOW UP IN TAGS >:(
—Request by @etacarinea. Ice cream date with Luca Kaneshiro. Except he is fully dressed in his mafia attire (fur coat and hat and everything) and everyone at the icecream place is very confused and/or frightened. Luca is, of course, oblivious to this (himbo supremacy!!). Fem or GN reader.
—Character. Luca Kaneshiro
—Contains. Swears, mention of gun, mention of killing, Luca is part of the mafia, Australian slang (THONGS)
—Song. Green Tea Ice Cream by Linda Diaz
—Note. Confession: I haven't watched Luca nor any streamer for over a month now because of exams, I'll start watching him again but damn is there gonna be a shit ton of stuff to catch up on :')
Even with your hand languidly waving the fan, your sweat still dripped down your skin, absorbed into the edges of your tank top. You resembled the ice cream on your table—absolutely dying of heat.
Everyone else seemed to have gotten the same idea as you, deciding to rest at the ice cream parlor to cool off, which ended up with all the seats inside being taken. But with your thongs feeling like they’re about to melt into the pavement, you settled with sitting under the umbrella—which admittedly didn’t do much to improve the heat—and call your boyfriend to pick you up.
“Hm? You’re at that shop?” He said earlier.
“Let me go, you asshole, I’m going to fucking kill you!” You heard in the background.
“Alright, ’m a little busy right now, babe, but I’ll pick you up in 20 minutes,” he told you, his voice slightly muffled by what seemed like gunshots. With a final “OI, SHUT THE FUCK-” the call cut off. You hope the poor fellow at least got a quick death.
It was another few minutes of you nibbling away at your melted ice cream until you heard the sound of a car far off in the distance, driving at a dangerously high speed towards the shop… Your stomach sank at a realization.
Luca, with an expensive car capable of going at great speeds. Luca, who just got off work. Luca, who had the habit of being a bit too… much. You took a once over of your area: A cute and simple place with a little ice cream parlor that had children playing and their mothers talking amongst each other about the latest news.
In other words it and quiet and ordinary.
Gosh, you were so going to stand out.
Your suspicions of it being Luca’s car were proven correct once you saw the model—a Lincoln Continental Mark III, the luxurious shiny black car that Luca customized with golden accents. ‘Augustus’ he named it. You already felt the stares of people eyeing the vehicle.
Whatever conversation was being had outside the parlor silenced as the door opened and revealed the man driving it—Luca Kaneshiro himself… wearing a full dinner suit and fur coat?
In the middle of the day?
In summer?!
A frown was on his face as he glanced around the area, replaced with a bright smile only when he found you hidden away in the corner, desperately trying to hide away from the attention. He raised his hand and called out, “Hey, there you are! You miss me?” His voice booming.
All eyes that were set on his car now switched over your stiff form. Fuck the weather, this embarrassment is making you sweat more than anything. The giant of a man made his way to you, his form towering over every other customer here. Even the big dog that a family brought over bowed its head and drooped its tail as the man walked past.
“Oh god, you alright? Your sweating mad right now, here, let me get some ice cream for us, yeah?” He spoke before you could even get in a greeting. To stunned to even reply, you just nodded as he sauntered into the shop. Only to choke as you saw the blood splattered on the back of his fur coat.
“Wait, Luca, don’t-” but you were too late to stop Luca as the door behind him. Slumping down onto your seat, you refused to look through the window as Luca talked with the cashier.
“WAAAAA!”
Oh god, not the baby crying.
Luca came out soon with two cups of ice cream in hand, a giddy pep in his step, “and what’s got you smiling so much, boss?”
“On the house!” He slid over your favorite ice cream flavor.
“Huh?”
“They said all the ice creams are on the house for us, they’re so nice, but I wonder why.” Your eye twitched at the idiot. “I mean, there isn’t an event going on, is there? I don’t see any signs- mmf!” You shoved a spoon of his ice cream into his mouth.
“Just… eat, and eat it cleanly!” You wiped the little bits of ice cream that dripped out his mouth. “Your coat is already dirty as is, we don’t need another stain there.”
Before you could pull your hand away from cleaning his face, he overlapped his hand onto yours, nuzzling his cheek into it, “I really missed you at work today.” His smile disappeared as his face creased into a frown.
Your lips parted. The puzzle pieces connected with each other in that single sentence. Screams in the background, car dangerously speeding, his frown when he first got out and the blood splatter that he would normally hide. After a pause, you caressed his cheek. “Was that guy on the call giving you lots of trouble?”
“You heard him?”
“Kinda hard not to. Wanna talk about it?”
Luca looked around at the area, which was still quite silent compared to before he came, hushed whispers and ‘sneaky’ glances sent to you two. “Why don’t we eat first then I’ll take you somewhere more private?”
You chuckled. To be quite honest, you almost forgot about the crowd when you realized what happen to Lua, but with that reminder, you once again tried to make yourself small to avoid the attention. But with the huge man next to you, it went in vain.
“Speaking of which, why are they staring, anyway? Don’t they know that’s rude? The customer service here is nice with the free ice cream but man the customers are so rude. If you ever want ice cream, tell me, I’ll take you to an even better place.”
Gosh, he was so embarrassing.

Meet Cute
I wanted to contribute a piece for Thunderpride, and Virgil wanted to take part. It's a very rare pair, I think, but Virgil was adamant about this. In my headcanon, Virgil is bisexual and biromantic.
I know nothing about coffee, not being a coffee drinker, but I did know Australians have a certain way of doing coffee. I hope I got it right.
This is set in the month following Jeff's return to Earth.
It's fun and sweet for a Friday. I hope you enjoy it.

Meet Cute
“Virgil?”
The voice behind him in the Sydney coffee shop caught Virgil Tracy’s ear. He turned towards a familiar person.
“Dr Furnier?”
Stephen Furnier smiled. “Hello, Virgil.”
“Hello, Dr Furnier.” Virgil smiled in return.
The men shook hands.
“You saved my life. I think you should call me Stephen.” He remembered how nice Virgil Tracy smelled when the IR operative had carried him onto Thunderbird Two. His cologne scent was light but very appealing. Stephen hadn’t been able to get it out of his head for weeks afterwards.
“Okay…Stephen.” The two men smiled. “You’re looking good.”
“So are you.”
Virgil chuckled. “I meant since the last time I saw you, but thank you.”
“Oh!” Stephen blushed and then, scratching the back of his neck, chuckled. “How embarrassing.
Stephen Furnier was just as Virgil remembered him. Attractive, trim, and neatly attired, with that full head of blond hair he wanted to run his fingers through. Virgil was a sucker for blonds. Not wanting to get distracted and keen to put the other man at ease, Virgil asked, “So, what brings you to the wilds of Sydney?”
“Ah. I’m in Sydney for work. I plan to be here roughly a year.”
“There are certainly enough spiders here to keep you busy.”
The line moved, and the two men moved forward.
“There are!”
Virgil chuckled. “Deadly and otherwise.”
“Actually, Australia has more non-lethal spiders than people think.”
They moved forward with the line.
“Oh. It probably doesn’t help that we only hear about the deadly ones.”
Stephen chuckled. “No.”
“Are you looking for any spiders in particular?”
“Not this time. I’m doing work for the Australian government. They’ve asked a group of arachnologists and herpetologists to study the effect of climate change on the ecosystems of spiders, lizards and snakes.”
“That sounds interesting.”
“It is!”
“Will you be working in Sydney?”
“Not the entire time. We’ll be going around the country. We’re trekking into Western Australia for a month in a couple of weeks.”
“What can I get for you two?”
Stephen and Virgil looked in surprise at the barista. They hadn’t noticed that the line had progressed so far. They looked at each other.
Virgil tilted his head and held out his hand. “What do you say, doc? My treat.”
Stephen raised his hands in protest. “No, no. You saved my life. It’s my treat.”
“But you saved my life capturing the creepy spider.”
“Creeping banana spider.”
“Guys.”
The two men looked in the direction of the voice. The barista stood with their eyebrows raised.
“Lumberjack, let the doc buy you coffee; you can buy him dinner, but let’s keep the line moving, okay?”
The two men blushed. “Um, sure.” “Yes, okay.”
“What’ll you have, Lumberjack?”
“I prefer Logistical Tree Feller.”
“Yeah, but it’s too wordy.”
Virgil shrugged. “Okay. Lumberjack it is. I’ll have a Long Black, please.”
“Okay.” The barista typed his order into the computer. They looked at Stephen. “And you, big spender?”
“Yes, um… may I please have a flat white?”
“Right-o.” The barista rang up their order.
Stephen touched his thumb to the pay pad, causing a soft beep, indicating that he had paid.
“We’ll call when your order is ready.”
Stephen stopped them. “Wait. Don’t you need our names?”
The barista cocked their head. “Do ya think there are more than one Doc and Lumberjack in here?”
Stephen frowned. “Umm…”
Virgil chuckled. “Don’t worry. We’ll figure it out…doc.”
Stephen blushed and chuckled. “Oh, yes. Of course.”
They moved away from the counter and stood together. Virgil was enjoying talking to Stephen and wished to continue their conversation. He hoped Stephen felt the same.
“Shall we find a table? We can keep talking…unless you have to go….”
“No!” Stephen blushed again. He glanced at Virgil from beneath his eyelashes. “No, my afternoon is free…and I want to continue our conversation.” He smiled when Virgil’s face lit up at his reply.
“Okay.”
They found a table near a window and sat.
“I’ve been terribly rude. Virgil, I neglected to ask what you were doing in Sydney.”
“That’s okay, doc-”
“Stephen, please, Virgil.”
Virgil nodded. “That’s okay, Stephen…I have a few days of R&R. I’m taking in a couple of museum exhibits, and I managed to get tickets for tomorrow to see Ming Ha at the Opera House.”
“Ming Ha? I’m not familiar with them.”
“She’s a classical pianist.”
“Oh. Classical music isn’t really my thing.” Stephen hesitated, wondering if he had said the wrong thing. He cleared his throat and spoke quickly. “Do you like classical music?”
“I do! I enjoy playing it on the piano, but I prefer jazz.”
Stephen’s face lit up. “I like jazz too!”
The men smiled at each other.
“Doc and Lumberjack!”
“I’ll get it.” Stephen rose and went to collect their coffees.
Virgil looked out the window, watching passersby until his companion returned with the nectar of life coffee. An idea occurred to him, and he tapped a message into his phone. A moment later, his phone tinged. Reading the reply, he smiled and looked up in time to see Stephen returning with their coffees.
“A tall black for the tall black-haired gentleman and a flat white for the spider guy.” Stephen grinned at Virgil while he set the cups on the table and retook his seat. “What are you grinning at?”
“I’m not grinning.”
“Virgil, you look like a cat who’s eaten a canary. What is it?”
“The coffee is called a long black, not tall black.”
“Oh.” The blond blushed. “Australian coffee rituals are very confusing.”
“They are if you aren’t familiar with them. You did okay ordering your coffee. Unless you didn’t actually want a flat white.”
Stephen sipped his coffee. “Mmm, this is exactly what I wanted.”
“Now you’re prepared for next time.”
“And I’ll try to remember it’s long black, not tall.” He sipped his coffee again and noticed Virgil grinning at him. “What? You’re grinning again…do I have foam on my lip?” He swiped his hand across his lips.
“Not, you’re fine.” Virgil paused, staring at Stephen’s lips. “Um….” He shook himself. “I checked on Ms Ha’s program, and she’s performing works by Jean-Michel Blais.”
“I’m not familiar with him.”
“He’s a modern Canadian composer. I think he’s still alive. Philip Glass was one of his influences, and some of his works have a jazzy feel.”
Stephen made a face. “Jazzy?”
Virgil laughed. “Oh no, don’t make that face. Okay, jazzy is a bad description. But his work is interesting, and Ms Ha is a talented pianist.”
“You don’t have to sell me on your evening plans, Virgil.”
“Yeah, about that.”
Stephen looked expectantly at him.
“I was wondering if you might like to come with me tomorrow night.”
“To see Ms Ha perform?”
“Yes, I have an extra ticket…” Virgil briefly wondered if he had misread Stephen’s interest. “Unless you have other plans, or there’s someone you’re seeing, then….”
“No.”
“No?” Virgil wilted slightly in disappointment.
Stephen’s eyes widened at his companion’s obvious disappointment. “No, that’s not what I meant. No, I don’t have plans…and there isn’t anyone at the moment….”
The two men looked at each other; neither had misread anything.
Stephen smiled shyly. “I’d love to join you.”
Virgil smiled. “Excellent.” He sipped his nectar of life coffee. It was very good. “So, Stephen, what are your plans for this afternoon?”
“I haven’t any.”
A black eyebrow rose at this information. “There’s an exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art I’ve been dying to see, and it’s leaving after this week. Would you like to spend the afternoon with me?”
“I’d like that very much, Virgil.”
They grinned at each other and sipped their coffees.

Naked Megan claims sets off furore online by u/darkdarktimes
Naked Megan claims sets off furore online This is obviously in response to Nigeria’s First Lady senator and her speech.A few snippets “Is it misconstruing and twisting Senator Tinubu’s comments about “nakedness” to connect it with her reference to the duchess? Was the “why did Meghan come here…” line a rhetorical question? And was her point really about the pervasiveness of Western cultural influence and not, as many have decided, a dig at the duchess’ tour wardrobe?”“Two pertinent details here: It would be unprecedented for a First Lady, and of a Commonwealth country no less, to take aim at a member of the royal family, especially a duchess who, as she revealed during an episode of her Archetypes podcast, was “forty three percent Nigerian” according to a genealogy test.”“In a 2018 story about Nigerian style, The New York Times reported that the country “remains politically, socially and religiously conservative. Men and women tend to dress accordingly, in loose fitting garments made from vivid traditional textiles (brocade, adire, ankara) and Western-style business professional attire.”“So, from an Australian standpoint, Meghan’s sleeveless, strapless and summery dresses were pretty damn fabulous. However, how might they have come across against this religious and cultural backdrop?I did not find them damn fabulous just for the record 😬It must be noted that the duchess did incorporate local pieces, wearing, along with Harry, traditional wooden necklaces given to them when they arrived, a one-of-a-kind skirt made by the brand Regalia by FAL made from Aso-Oke fabric (hand-woven cloth created by the Yoruba people) and a shawl gifted to her by the First Lady of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.But But ignore the offence created she wore local pieces 🙄Archive below https://ift.tt/PTe1S8I to correct title post link: https://ift.tt/Pb5Q08v author: darkdarktimes submitted: May 28, 2024 at 07:37AM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog. Tampopo
Tampopo discovers the true depths and importance of food within the soul of every man woman and child. The film focuses on Tampopo, a ramen shop owner looking to revitalize her shop and really learn what it means to cook ramen. The movie goes through the motions showing the blood sweat and tears, and most important the dedication to study that one needs to truly master a recipe. It shows people's connections to food and how people from all walks of life come together to enjoy meals from the same place. One way the film did this was by bringing together the crew in this shot.
Tumblr media
in this one shot you have people who are dressed as individuals from all different walks of life. Starting from the left you have Goro, who looks like he just came from the Australian outback and is on leave to Japan; Gun, who looks like he could be a painter or someone focused in the arts; Sensei who looks like a film director stopping in at his local ramen shop; Shohei, who appears to be a normal salaryman or office worker coming in a suit and tie; and finally, Pisuken who attire makes him look like a detective. In reality, they all have jobs that work to create Tampopo the ramen shop what it is, but their portrayal in this scene really helps to solidify the idea that food lovers come from all walks of life. It goes further in developing this idea with its interludes from Tampopo's life. There are several different people enjoying food in different ways around different circumstances, with criminal's and crooks, to lovers, to business men in fine establishments. It talks about the customs surrounding eating and how they differ between peoples. For example, when the foreigner's way of eating pasta is being studied, only to be revealed to be completely opposite to the way they were being taught.
Additionally the film explores the different relationships people have with food. Some just like to enjoy their meals around a bar while others... well... we all saw the scene where they were trading the egg yolk between their mouths.
Tumblr media
Their sexuality surrounded food and it's thought to bring this kind of orgasmic reaction between the two of them. This goes to show the power food can have and the emotions and feelings it works to manipulate.

On citizenship.
I say 'we' because I became an Australian citizen on 26th of January 2021. Here is my personal journal entry from that day:
26th of January, Tuesday
I wake up just before dawn. As I lie in bed, I think about my sometimes annoyingly stress free life. From time to time, I long for things to change quickly and dramatically. Slow change is hard for me, I'm indecisive and tend to overthink things so any change I manage feels very hard won. But I'm also impulsive and feel a thrill when I have to handle a crisis. So even as a peaceful life is something I seek, when I find the equilibrium it can bore me too.
Naturally, as I thought further about quick and dramatic change, I thought about this country whose citizen I was soon to become. This land and its first people, its wildlife, its landscape and its plant life. I thought about what it would have been like to be here, minding your own business, going about your life as the generations of your ancestors did before you. About one day, getting up before dawn to go for your solitary morning walk to think and clear your head, and looking out over the ocean to see the strangest sight. Boats. With strangely attired people on them.
When I got the letter telling me my citizenship ceremony was to be held on Australia Day, I thought of declining and doing it on a different day to boycott this holiday which I hate and believe to be utterly crazy in a society that claims to be tolerant and open and forward thinking. Celebrating a day that marks the beginning of an ongoing tragedy for Aboriginal people, and for the natural world that they lived in and cared for.
But that would change nothing. This heavy feeling would not go away, dramatic change for the better wouldn't ensue.
I accept the full responsibility and I accept that becoming a citizen of a colonial country means I am no longer an innocent bystander.
Until yesterday I could still have had my high ground. From an immigrant's perspective, it was easy to see the injustice the lack of respect, the system of oppression. As a citizen, I accept that I am now a beneficiary of that very same system. I don't know that there is a solution here for me. This isn’t a rant about finding solutions to uncomfortable feelings. And I think that’s the point. You have to sit in this discomfort and do better when the ball is in your court.
-
It’s a hot day. We leave not long after 9. We’re a little early so we go and check the surf at Belongil. It’s the most beautiful day with perfect waves.
We drive back to Cavanbah Centre, there are people lining up outside. Some of them are dressed up. We sign in and I fill in the electoral roll form. There are shitty little flags on all the seats. We put them on the ground. It’s a weird event. The officiate is Simon Richardson, the mayor of Byron. He’s really nice and says the right things, basically saying we’re all waiting for the date to be changed. Of course, in the absence of this change, we still have to proceed. The whole setup is a little too close to a religious ceremony for my liking. There is a little bit of bullshit and myth making streaming down from the stage. But all the organisers, as expected, are extremely polite. Politeness, however, is a double edged sword. On the one hand, it’s better than being rude. On the other, it can help you get away with murder. Australians and their institutions largely inherited their politeness from their British counterparts.
All efforts are undertaken to make the ceremony pleasant. There’s a kindly older musician who can’t sing for shit singing “Home Among the Gumtrees” and, just before the ceremony, “The Times They Are A Changin’”. In the first case, sweet, feel good song that’s meant to make you forget about the people who were slaughtered in the process of creating that lovely utopia with a clothes line out the back. In the second, it was clear from the delivery as well as from the context that the times are really not changing quite as dramatically as the song implies. The intention was good though, and I take a moment to appreciate that. For many present, this is a cause for celebration. Me, all of it mostly makes me uncomfortable.
We all get a native pot plant and a certificate from the mayor. The other guy, some old dude, delivers the whole ‘best country in world’ spiel. And yet, despite all the pleasantry, somehow it all seems so very awkward. Two girls becoming new citizens are wearing tops with the Aboriginal flag. We all mumble the pledge under our breaths and hardly anyone sings the anthem. I certainly don’t, even though I’m so tempted to just let go and enjoy myself. I mean, I love hymns and powerful songs, I love a catchy tune. But not this one. They make us stand in the front, like new Christians about to get baptised. Zach notices it’s taking a while and so he brings me a chair. He takes a photo of me with my plant and my certificate, pulling a ‘I’m not sure what to think of this’ face.
-
We drive to Wayne’s around 4:30 and get straight to it. There isn’t exactly enough for us both to do, but I do about half an hour of mowing before Zach takes over and I go hang out with Wayne and his girlfriend. We talk everything, from movies and TV, Broken Hill where Wayne is going to scout locations for a show he’ll be directing (‘Total Control’), to multi level marketing scams, family histories, becoming a citizen, how Zach and I met. We want to hang out some more, but we have booked the tickets already.
We get to the cinema and collect our free wine and head straight into the theatre. There are no ads. That’s appropriate. The cinema is almost full.
The movie is heavy. Zach doesn’t appreciate all the people commenting on it out loud and getting all too emotionally involved. I don’t exactly appreciate having this white guy being so central to the story. You can’t have everything. The boy who plays Gutjuk is really good. He needs to be in more movies. It’s a necessary movie. Visually amazing. But in the lift on the way to the car, I tell Zach that somehow I feel like this film belongs in the past, like it’s overdue. (I read later that indeed, the idea for the film and maybe even the script were developed around the year 2000). Like it does a bit too much to make white people not feel quite as horrible as they could about the invasion. That’s my only issue, I think. Visually, it’s flawless. The acting is convincing, especially from the Aboriginal part of the cast. Also, hero’s journey wise, it is flawless too. Everybody goes through their character arc perfectly, they all close, the hero becomes the hero and gets the girl (presumably), the girl gets her revenge, the riddled-with-guilt white dude atones for his sins, the white girl steps up to take responsibility and the bad guys meet their demise. Which is all a little too convenient but of course it’s satisfying to watch. But that too contributes to the feeling that it is somehow dated. Filmmakers who want to really make a splash go out of their way to subvert those kinds of expectations. And at the same time, I think Aboriginal people were owed this revenge tale. So. I think that generally, it is good that this film exists. And this was the day for all of us to watch it.

The Evolution of Modern Work Uniforms in Australia: A Stylish and Functional Transformation
In the realm of professional attire, the journey of work uniforms has undergone a remarkable evolution.
From utilitarian ensembles to stylish and functional statements, modern work uniforms in Australia have seen a transformative shift that mirrors the changing dynamics of the modern workplace. Let's explore this fascinating journey of style and functionality.
From Conformity to Comfort
Gone are the days of rigid uniforms that stifled individuality. The evolution began with a shift towards comfort. Australian workplaces recognized that comfortable employees are productive employees. This realization led to the incorporation of breathable fabrics, ergonomic designs, and versatile options that cater to various job roles. Modern uniforms prioritize functionality without sacrificing style.
Style Meets Professionalism
The idea that uniforms need to be uninspiring to maintain professionalism has been replaced by a belief in the power of style.
Modern work uniforms prove that professionalism can coexist with contemporary fashion. From tailored suits that exude confidence to sleek separates that allow employees to mix and match, Australian workplaces are embracing the fusion of style and professionalism.
Personalization and Identity
Modern work uniforms are no longer a sea of indistinguishable outfits. The evolution has ushered in the era of personalization. Employers understand that when employees have a say in their uniform choices, they feel a sense of ownership. This personal touch not only boosts morale but also adds a unique dimension to the company's identity. Employees become walking ambassadors, proudly representing their workplace.
Tumblr media
Tech Integration
As technology becomes ubiquitous in workplaces, modern uniforms are adapting accordingly. Tech-friendly features like hidden pockets for devices, wiring for earpieces, and even built-in antimicrobial properties are becoming common. These innovations reflect the changing needs of a digital workforce and showcase how uniforms are not just garments, but functional tools.
Sustainability and Ethics
In the age of sustainability, modern work uniforms are reflecting a commitment to ethical practices. Australian companies are increasingly opting for eco-friendly fabrics, responsible manufacturing processes, and longevity in design. Sustainability is now woven into the fabric of modern work uniforms, symbolizing a shared responsibility towards the environment.
Reflecting Company Values
Modern work uniforms have transcended their role as mere clothing. They now reflect a company's values, culture, and mission. Whether it's a tech startup promoting innovation through futuristic uniforms or a healthcare institution conveying trust through clean and professional attire, modern uniforms are a visual representation of a company's ethos.
Embracing Diversity and Inclusion
Diversity and inclusion have taken center stage in workplaces, and modern uniforms are no exception. Australia's modern work uniforms celebrate diversity by accommodating different body types, cultural preferences, and gender identities. Inclusivity is not just a buzzword; it's a commitment that modern uniforms are proudly demonstrating.
Final Thoughts:
The evolution of modern work uniforms in Australia is a testament to adaptability and innovation. From embracing comfort and style to personalization and sustainability, these uniforms are more than clothing—they are catalysts for a positive work environment, functional tools, and visual representations of a company's essence. As the workplace landscape continues to evolve, modern uniforms will undoubtedly keep pace, reflecting the values and aspirations of Australian businesses and their employees.

Blast from the past: The Duality of Dress Codes with Meghan Markle by u/Mickleborough
Blast from the past: The Duality of Dress Codes, with Meghan Markle Admittedly dress codes can be tricky. What to wear to a drinks party, the opera, a daytime wedding - it really can vary.My guess is that the Royal Family have fewer problems getting it right than mere mortals. They’ve been to many, many similar functions. They can get more precise details from organisers (unlike friends: ‘Anything’s fine’). And they have a ton of advisers on hand who can guide them. Here are some occasions when - notwithstanding the above, Meghan didn’t get it quite right. Why is that?Trooping the Colour, June 2018Here’s Meghan on the balcony with a couple of longer-serving royals for contrast.Know that in the Meghan & Harry Netflix lie-a-thon, Meghan claims that she dressed, amongst other things, in a way ‘so I could just blend in. Like, I’m not trying to stand out here. So there’s no version of me joining this family and trying not to do everything I could to fit in. I don’t want to embarrass the family.’To be fair, Meghan grew up knowing that, under the Constitution, she had the right to bare arms.Australian Geographic Society Awards, Sydney, October 2018In her ‘I can’t believe I’m not getting paid for this’ tour of Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, and Tonga with Harry, Meghan turned up at the Australian Geographic Society Awards ceremony in Sydney wearing a £10,000 / $12,708 cocktail dress from Oscar de la Renta.A cocktail dress sounds right for the event, but this looks a bit over-the-top - even if she was presenting an award. What women wear. Overdress much, Meghan?Cirque du Soleil benefit at the Royal Albert Hall, January 2019This benefit was for Sentebale, one of Harry’s charities. Again, sequinned evening gown compared to the less formal, but still smart, garb of other women. This was the night that Meghan claims to have had suicidal thoughts.‘It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to.’ For someone who allegedly sobbed through the performance - that eye makeup and foundation are more waterproof than a rubber mac.Reception at the British Ambassador’ residence, Rabat, Morocco, February 2019On a mysteriously hastily arranged visit to Morocco, Meghan and Harry attended a reception at the home of the British Ambassador. There they met ‘young entrepreneurs, business leaders, and athletes’. So not even the Diplomatic Corps - more like pressing the flesh of local dignitaries to build goodwill.‘Pregnant? I’m just carrying this for a friend.‘ The infamous £99,000 / $126,000 Dior bedsheet. Note the business attire of the other guests. The Lion King premiere, London, July 2019Here’s Meghan attending her first film premiere as a royal. Film premieres with royals in attendance are glamorous affairs, so I’ve been led to believe.‘What is she wearing?’ Beyoncé wears a fixed smile.Note that the men - Harry shilling speaking to Bob Iger of Disney, and Jay-Z - are all in black tie. The equivalent for women would be evening gowns. Meghan at best is in a cocktail dress, thereby dissing Queen Bey. Maybe Meghan hadn’t ever been to a film premiere?Below is a photo of an anonymous attendee (only Meghan and Harry topics allowed in this sub!) at a recent film premiere:Stop the press, who’s that? post link: https://ift.tt/KYIL5TD author: Mickleborough submitted: June 23, 2023 at 10:20PM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit

this is how imagine MARAHUYO JAMBOREE to look like:
- the first and second are at pechanga stadium; the left is the first version and the right is the expansion for when the attendance gets bigger.
- the third is at snapdragon stadium. this is the biggest venue.
my plans for MARAHUYO JAM:
there would be fairgrounds type of food, rides, and games and ticketing system. the games would be a chance to get ANTH and MARAHUYO merchandise for extremely cheap. along with a merchandise booth, there will also be kiosks w/ some streetwear companies in order to sell collaborations for MARAHUYO JAM.
the top of the stadium is a giant inflatable Jambo, the mascot of this event. might name it Hubie (i would like this character to make blink-and-you-miss-it type cameos in all MARAHUYO music videos.
i want screens throughout the Jamboree in order to show the performer as well as the crowd (like how fans are shown at sporting events).
i want cool drone choreography at night during the event. it’ll show cool and funny images but another purpose would be to announce the next performer and when as well as when a certain service (food, rides, etc.) would be closing. there will also be an app that’s dedicated to this event for info on how much things cost and what performer’s up next. in this app, you can pay to write a character limited, family friendly message for the drones to spell out for 30 seconds. -- the app will just be titled “Marahuyo Jam” and the face of Jambo/Hubie will be the logo.
one big ass, colorful tent.
i want a firework display to close the event.
for the second image, the HUYO STAGE is meant for smaller acts. the third image has both stages at the same size. while the first and second will only have one ferris wheel, the third one will have two.
a VIP area called something album related, like Alamo Ranch or something. there will be an AC lounge, amenities, etc.
inside the stadium could be where the bts documentary for my most recent album can premiere + other Marahuyo artists. available to GA + VIP free of charge, but its first come-first serve. free medium popcorn and drinks. Some Marahuyo short films will debut here too, also free of charge and first come-first serve.
boring business operation ideas:
this event will be owned and operated by the Marahuyo Jamboree Corporation, a subsidiary of Marahuyo, with additional funding by a partnership with a festival company (if possible). i think in order to get this event up the first few times, we’ll need a title sponsorship. for instance, if we were sponsored by Qualcomm, it’ll go like: Marahuyo Jamboree, in association with Qualcomm.
after watching how the australian gp gets made + tours of all my fav f1 constructors’ motorhomes, i’d like to partner w/ a telecommunications company and/or a vpn company, and either youtube music / amazon music in order to stream it. luxurious motorhomes that will serve as the offices for the staff, crew, and talent. these partners aren’t title sponsorships, but they are recognized for the services they provide. for instance, if AT&T sponsored us for network services for the app and streaming quality + if YouTube Music was the exclusive streaming platform, it’ll look like: YouTube Music presents Marahuyo Jamboree, powered by AT&T. these brands will show up as sponsors on merch and official cinematic versions of the performance (that’ll be released throughout the following weeks after).
for the official cinematic versions of an artist’s performance, it’ll go exclusively on the official Marahuyo Jamboree YouTube channel, not the Marahuyo YouTube channel. the Marahuyo YouTube channel will have promotions to lead to Marahuyo Jam.
also similar to f1 is the entrance and attire. there will be a high tech, secure check in for all staff, crew, talent, and security. staff will be wearing high-vis vests with Marahuyo Jamboree Corporation 20__ on the back (the colors will change every year) or the staff merchandise w/ all the sponsors on it along w/ the year.
i want funny online creators to come to interview fans and artists + host giveaways for those who bought into whatever raffles (via the app). these creators will be contracted to the Marahuyo Jamboree Corporation; they aren’t making content for their channels / accounts, but for Marahuyo Jam. they can make additional content for their channels / accounts if they want concerning the event, but the Marahuyo Jamboree Corporation won’t pay them for it.
ultimately, MARAHUYO JAM stays in san diego. it will forever be dedicated to and located in san diego. The Marahuyo Jamboree Corporation aren’t mostly Marahuyo employees, their people we’d have to hire for design, construction, catering, security, medical, and a whole bunch of shit just to build, run, and strike down this event. i need MARAHUYO JAMBOREE to bring jobs to the san diego people.

Our last few days we have been busy with on board and shore activities, both which we have enjoyed. Since leaving the Suez the waters have been rough but as we entered Crete settled down dramatically.
Crete is a far different country/island then we expected with snow capped mountains in the distance from the harbour. It is very metropolitan within the city regions and totally unique with culture and history once you leave the greater city. It is one of the most mountainous places we have ever visited.
Our first stop on our bus tour was a small church that existed for nearly eight hundred years. The walls adorned with painting, our guide explaining each paintings existence so beautifully. The unity of this place with the different religions controlling at times over the centuries is something we all could learn from. Here we also did some true local shopping with Rhondda buying day and evening attire. Both look great but really she could have picked something a little different. Hahah. She can explain when you see her.
We were also taken to a seaside town that has an extinct volcano within the city limits. Great place with crystal clear waters and numerous great restaurants and bars. Easily could have enjoyed a session here but the bus called.
Back on board we sailed to Athens through very calm waters. On board the place is rocking to the sound of a great guitarist who have great taste in music, just can not sing. Hahaha. Seriously he fills the dance floors and just keeps playing until the management remove him from the stage. He is always followed by dance lessons the sanity of such can only be explained by staff who simply say it is the way it is. MSC really need to understand, if they want Australian patronage, the need to respect our culture and cater for such.
Once in Athens a quick bus trip to the Acropolis a must followed by the usual “hop on hop of” trip around the city. We must both be getting tired as it was quickly agreed that we should not get off the first time round taking photos and enjoying the changing of the guards along with other fantastic sites. We enjoyed this so much we stayed on board for the second tour swapping sides to the right to make sure we saw everything from a different view.
Finally jumped off to do some shopping at Plaka, where you can buy anything and I mean anything. Great experience walking the laneways and streets tasting the foods.
Sadly it came to an end and we returned to the ship, which was to sail at 6pm, where we gathered with others to share some great stories until bed time. On Good Friday we spend the day at sea with many starting the exercise of packing as our last day on ship will be spent in Split, where most intend to leave the boat for the day.
Now Split is one of the most beautiful cities we have visited with a walk through the old city a must. Such history mixed with modern business’ and markets selling anything you want. No one ever leaves here without buying something. Could have sat watching the calm waters of the inner harbour all day if not for the need to return to the ship to set sail for Venice.
