april 24th, 2024
Every year, on April 24th, from early in the morning until late into the night, Armenians make the pilgrimage to the Tsitsernakaberd memorial in Yerevan, honoring the victims of the 1915 Armenian genocide in Ottoman Turkey.

Of all my work for Unseen Japan, this article on the history of melonpan, and how it brings together Japanese and Armenian history with my own personal history, is one of my favorites.

I just heard some IDIOT in my own country say that they “don’t believe” in the Armenian Genocide!
“Don’t believe”. What, like it’s the fucking boogeyman? Or Santa Claus?
My GOD!
What a shittake!
Absolute brainrot!
Fucking hell!
It is not up to you to BELIEVE in it!
It happened!
It is real!
The evidence (1.5 million people DEAD! All those renamed towns, cities and villages in western armenia under Turkish control, and many more what were razed to the ground, the bones in the Syrian desert from the forced death marches and deportations, Armenian refugees in places like Lebanon, the emergence of subsequent Armenian diaspora communities from said refugees, Operation Nemesis, countless eyewitness testimony from bystanders, perpetrators, victims and survivors!) is IRREFUTABLE!!!
It’s not something you can handwave or push aside!
It’s not a matter of belief!
Fucking MORONS!!!!
Curiously they didn’t resort to the usual denialist talking points. Which genuinely surprised me.
They just simply said it didn’t happen. Which isn’t any better.
Like a stupid child.
They almost sounded proud of their ignorance.
Absolutely sickening to behold!
Some people in my country do NO favours for our image and these DENSE motherfuckers are among them!
I feel SICK!!!
Fucking morons!!!
Sometimes I genuinely hate sharing a country with these dumb beasts!
Shit like this is one of the reasons I study history! To call out shittakes, lies, mistruths and bullshit when I see them!

We're probably the only nation in the world that blames itself for its misfortunes more that it blames its enemies.
DEAR ARMENIANS,
THE FAULT IS ALWAYS WITH THE AGGRESSOR, THE ATTACKER, THE ABUSER.
When we talk about our responsibility, we can only talk about how efficient our self-defense is. We can blame ourself for not being efficient enough, but not for getting attacked.
ANY CONFLICT IS ALWAYS AND ONLY THE AGGRESSOR'S FAULT.
AND BEATING OURSELVES UP FOR FALLING PREY TO HUGE, RICH, HOSTILE EMPIRES ONLY HELPS PROMOTE THEIR NARRATIVE THAT WE ARE WEAK AND STUPID.
Have you heard ANY Ukrainian refugee blame themselves for becoming a refugee and losing a piece of their homeland? NO. But there are collaborators and traitors there too!
Respect the fight our people have put up for hundreds of years. We are holding their dream, an independent Armenian state, in our hands.

kinda wild to think that Armenian history's mythical origins feature the founder of the Armenian nation landing a trickshot from across a valley and offing his corrupt manager who was demanding unpaid overtime...
...anyway, Happy Labor Day, and solidarity to the working class peoples of the world!

AYTSEMNIK // WARRIOR
“She was an Armenian warrior and military leader. Due to the death of Georgian King David the Builder, the rich Armenian city of Ani was threatened with capture by Persia. The inhabitants of Ani, both men and women, selflessly defended the walls of their native city. The beauty Aytsemnik, one of the Armenian commanders, particularly distinguished herself in the battles. Among the enemies, she was considered a symbol of death due to her passion in battle. She became an inspiring symbol in the bloody war of Armenians against a superior number of adversaries, which were successful. She fell in battle, however until the last moment inspiring her compatriots and smashing the aggressors.”

FEBRUARY 18, 1921 .
On the night of February 17-18, in a Yerevan prison, on the orders of state traitor Sargis Kasyan from the Revolutionary Committee, Bolshevik bandits hacked to death with axes Armenian military leaders and statesmen of the Republic of Armenia, such as Amazasp Srvandztyan, Nikolai Gorganyan and others. Kasyanov's followers still exist in Armenia.
