I started this like a year ago..I figured I'd finally finish it for V-day!

Clear wears glasses (specifically inspired by some official art sketches of him wth a pair on) But also thinking after good end after repairs, maybe his eyes be a lil messed up and can't focus --- I know he's still a robot, so they could just change his eyes but...I think he would like to feel more human even with imperfections, so glasses he gets :]

Clear's gas mask is a metaphor for concealing vulnerability. Notice how you only ever really see him say “I'm fine” and nothing more for every situation involving himself being hurt, in danger or injured. Yes, he'll get angry and protective in defense of Aoba, discouraged and bummed out when he feels like he's failed at something or if someone is being mean to him he'll feel like he's being bullied. But we never really see him truly vulnerable nor really telling Aoba nor anyone for that matter how he really feels. Until he takes his gas mask off. Then, we see him cry and tell Aoba when something hurts him and we see him laugh and we see him smile. I think his gas mask acted as a barrier for his vulnerability.

Yes, he may look and act very happy-go-lucky on the outside but behind his mask we don't know if he's just going by his programming to blend in with humanity or if he's actually happy. Much like how Noiz very visibly rejects most of Aoba's attempts at connecting with him on an emotional level via touch because he doesn't believe he needs to rely on anyone because he thinks nobody loves him due to his condition, it's the same with Clear except for he's hesitant to open up to Aoba because he knows he's an android and that Aoba is a human and that eventually he'll be left all alone due to humanity dying out before him.

They're both just different sides of the same coin. Clear with his gas mask concealing his vulnerability from the world and both literally and metaphorically hiding his true self behind a mask and Noiz with his bandages and layered clothing, concealing his skin thus by association his ability to feel from the world and not allowing anyone in. And Clear's needing someone to care for and yearning to belong as an outcast immortal waking amongst humans compliments Noiz's need for someone to take care of him and yearning to never be alone as someone who's been deemed a monster ever since he was born perfectly. I just. I just love Noicle so much it's insane they're insane.
