tuesday again 10/17/2023
started explaining why this one is a little lighter than last week's gallery wall behemoth bc of a uhhhh kind of dire week, personally and professionally speaking, but then realized when fic authors do that in front of chapters i don't actually care or require an excuse from them, im just delighted to have a new chapter.
listening
this is a deeply cheesy little folk song but the lyrics "man you name it and if we ain’t got it: we’ll get it" gave me a sensible chuckle.
youtube
now for a moment to expound upon houston: they truly have imported every possible food service establishment. the two chains i miss most from jersey, jersey mikes submarine sandwiches and 7-11 gas stations, are both here. i get that this is the fifth largest metro area in the US or whatever but both of these companies are SO niche. absolutely bonkers. spotify.
i think this started autoplaying after a playlist inspired by f/allout: new v/egas came on??

reading
i originally had a very mean-spirited graf about the utility of a pool in northwestern massachusetts and the kind of person who can comfortably lose $31k, but it is genuinely awful that there are no rules around zelle. that money goes into a black fucking hole and there's no way to get it back, which is not the case for any other kind of recognized money except cryptocurrency
Did we confront Gary Kruglitz [the pool contractor]? Yes we did. We marched right into his office and grilled him hard until he defeated us with a simple and probing question: What's a zelle? It defied belief, we quickly realized, that a man who had been trapped in technological amber since the Nixon era was running a cyberscam designed to come between us and our money out of an AOL account.

Van Helsing (2004, dir. Sommers). this movie is horrible. this movie is terrific. i don't have anything to say about this movie bc i was distracted by equal opportunity tits and asses the entire time. the time of the “Kate Beckinsale in a corset” movie genre is long over but GOD. watched with my sister bc it's leaving tubi soon
playing
one week i will have the energy to try New Thing but until i do it’s genshin. there's a poetry event that has terribly boring minigames, but the story quest has finally tied a bow on a piece of folkore we came across in the very first release so that was fun!
Tumblr media
wrapping up some stuff in sumeru bc im running out of map pins, this game has done one of the things i hate most: progress-locking one extremely long and tedious collectible hunt (the music gates) behind another extremely long and tedious collectible hunt (the robots locked in the vines). the next time i see one of those little fucking budget koroks i am going to drop kick it into the sun. what the fuck is the circumference of teyvat anyway. it feels like we have explored so little of this planet's surface
Tumblr media
i have graphics turned down pretty low bc of performance issues on my elderly laptop and this is still such a remarkably pretty game. look at this big estuary leading off into the distance

making
i wildly overextended myself this week, partially bc im trying to take advantage of this brief post-covid heightened immunity. lot of dinners. lot of late nights. on top of that BOTH of my siblings were in town for unrelated professional reasons this week :) no overlap so we did not have a nice fambly dinner :( but did have pretty okay separate dinners :) if they could learn to fucking communicate their trave plans and the number of peope that will be showing up at my home that would also be pretty okay >:(
one of the party games i played this week asked the question “what could you give a 40-minute PowerPoint presentation on” and i started saying facts about the downfall of the penn central railroad and they very nicely let me continue saying facts about the downfall of the penn central railroad, the largest bankruptcy in US history until ENRON, until the round timer went off.
i have some thoughts about Train Guys and how it's very easy to fall into being a Train Guy, bc there's a very easy template to follow, and there's a lot of Train Guy content, and have i been doing this bc i actually like trains, or bc it's easy to listen to Well There's Your Problem on repeat bc it's familiar and comforting, or do i just really really really fucking hate flying?
who could possibly say.

This ficlet is written for and inspired by @valleydeans A Ghost Story. It contains spoilers to the entire story, so please don’t read this if you haven’t finished reading it yet. Wc:1400, no extra warnings (warnings for original fic stand) Italicizes mark establishing narrative the rest is in Cas’ POV.
It first plays on the old radio that sits attached to the bottom of one of the kitchen cupboards in the townhouse. Both Sam and Dean forgot it existed, left behind by the previous tenants, since they never had cause to use it but it was simple enough that Cas managed to get it turned on.
Granted it was only because the button was labeled Power; Cas knows even a moron could have figured that one out.
Cas didn't know how to change what music played at first, so he pressed buttons until something happened and took note of the outcomes. Seek seemed to be his friend, AM did not, and one afternoon while Dean and Sam were out at class or work or the library - there were so many places for Dean to be now, back before his resurrection Cas could have just walked around the grounds of the manor until he came upon him but now Dean is as hard for Cas to find as his place in this new time is - he finds a station that played a lovely song with a piano (Sam later told him it was an ‘indie station’, he doesn’t know how to tell him that he has no idea what that means) soft lyrics fell upon his ears and he lost his afternoon to meaneal tasks while the music floated from the small machine.
He takes notice of a song that starts to play only because it is in such contrast to the music the machine has been playing for the better part of the afternoon. There's a heaviness to the melody, an intensity that the other songs lacked, he spends much of the song listening only to the instruments.
The only line that actually sinks in after that first listen is “there is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin” and he can’t understand why his chest seems to expand against his ribs while his lungs squeeze themselves together because he’s never heard the type of lyric that was made to hit you square in the chest because, well, there’s not been a lot of music listening aside from piano and string quartets in his life.
He asks Sam how to learn the words in a song and Sam shows him how to get to a ‘Google tab’ so he can look up the song (Sam reckons a genius lyrics page might be a little too much for Cas). He types the words he remembers into the ‘Google’, and is decidedly confused by what can only be the name of the song. Take Me to Church, while a lovely name, stands out like a sore thumb in his head alongside the titles of the pieces he aimed to perfect in his old life.
He spends as much time as possible over the next three days listening to the song on ‘Youtube’ while he reads the lyrics, he just barely manages to stop himself from writing the lyrics out on paper so he can look at them when he’s away from a computer (like when Dean heads to school with his laptop and he can’t listen unless the machine - a ‘radio’ apparently - decides to play it)
Each line draws him in and pushes him away in equal measure, humor for Cas doesn’t mean laughing at a funeral it means Dean teasing him, tickling him, smiling as he waits for the joke to land on Cas’ ears. But still they all seem to resonate beyond what he thought was possible, Dean was always met with disapproval, he always wanted to worship him in any way he could, even now he curses the moments they could have had together if only one of them had been braver before the night spent in their clearing.
“We were born sick / you heard them say it” and “I was born sick, but I love it” stop his breath cold on every listen. He doesn’t allow himself to look too deeply into that, he’s long since accepted himself and delving into beliefs of a time long since past does no one any good.
What strikes him as odd is that there's a violence to the love and devotion that he can’t really understand, worshipping like a dog and revealing your sins to the sound of steel being honed isn't how he loves Dean, isn't how he sees Dean as his salvation, he writes hymns inspired by Dean. He doesn’t, could never, equate his devotion to something so lacking in softness, not when he can still feel the tufts of Dean’s hair under his nose or the petals of the roses Dean winded up the trellis on the side of his balcony.
The focus on a violent love turns him off from the song but there’s a pull in his mind with each iteration of “offer me my deathless death” he knows enough to know it might be a reference to sexual pleasure but he can't shake that something about the line draws him in, what with his death being undone when Dean brought him back.
The bridge, as the website calls it (Sam does eventually end up showing Cas the genius page), he reads the most, over and over and over and he thinks how it was just him and Dean in those stolen moments, how the doctrine he was told to follow labelled him a sinner but with Dean that didn't matter, it didn't even filter into the moment. The ritual the man sings of, the scene that plays out with it, becoming clean, human, he can’t even put words to why that settles so deeply into his chest, why it makes sense to him even though he never truly felt dirty about the things he and Dean did, the love they shared. But the truth of the matter is that Dean made him human again that night in the manor, and in doing so made him clean, clean of the never ending hell of the manor, just like he had promised to do all that time ago.
“Let me give you my life” sits heavy in his skull, it scratches at something deep within his brain for weeks. Ever since he first took the words into his head something about them made him think of them. It didn’t make sense though, Cas’ death hadn’t given Dean his life. Hell Cas’ death almost surely led to Dean’s own. So why would this lyric stick with him?
It's about a month after the successful ritual that he hears the song again, a fluke video on ‘autoplay’ on the youtube tab Dean keeps open for him. Let me give you my life. Let me give you my life. Cold fingers dance along the hairs at the nape of his neck, blood covers his hands, a redo, a trade off. Let me give you my life. And then a trade again, Dean to him this time. Let me give you my life. Good god, let me give you my life. The weeks spent ruminating over the line make sense now, as though some deep part of him always knew of the choice he made that night, the choice to save his love, the choice to give his life for the only thing that ever made him feel alive.
In the wake of his completed reincarnation, the sloughing off of death’s hold on him, the song takes on intense new meaning, which is no surprise really. His heaven is and has always been the moments he and Dean spend alone together, afternoons in the music room or midnights spent wrapped around each other. His lover is the sunlight, to keep the goddess on their side Cas and then Dean offered their sacrifices. Deathless deaths in multiples, love is worth more than what Sunday’s used to hold.
One night he plays the song for Dean, when the spring shoots are digging their way to the surface and the snowdrops are withering. He says nothing when Dean’s hold on him tightens as the song plays, he doesn't mention the hitches in his husband’s breath or the redness in his eyes when Dean hits replay on the song. He doesn’t bring up the way this song seems to recount their story with startling accuracy, he knows Dean understands. Take Me to Church... they needn’t worry, they’ve already reached salvation.
Sam sneaks the song into the playlist for the reception, their guests assume it’s just another popular song with a decent beat but for them it’s undoubtedly more.

Fall of the Kingdom
Member: Hongjoong Word Count: 4.4k (mmmm) Genre: it’s just... Dark... and drama. Content: Demon Hongjoong’s got a war but he needs to feed on humans first. Mentions of explosions, violence, blood, suicide ideation (only brushed upon, nothing in detail i promise). Note: This idea came to me after seeing rocker hongjoong and that Iconic dark smile he does. Also this was technically done in one go cause I was Feeling the Inspiration so forgive me if it’s messy. Also this was just an Excuse for me to indulge in an interest of mine. Taglist: @barsformars @miniyeo @hwaberrykiwi @jwyfldr @fvae @yeotlny @inkigayeo
“I’ve become so numb, can’t feel you there.
I’ve become so tired, so much more aware.”
There was something about this new song that made you feel breathless, as if all the frustration and pent up anger has been sucked out of you. Just like the song, you feel a little numb. It was a good thing you were sitting down too, you could barely feel your own legs after that song. If there was a song to describe what your life has made you feel, it would be this song. There were days where you didn’t feel real, if you were still capable of feeling emotions, if you can still reach the expectations of people put onto you.
Silence passes over your earphones and that’s when you realize that the song had ended, loading the next video. You quickly stopped autoplay and had the video play again. This time you had to get yourself to watch the music video. The vocals alone had put you through an array of emotions you didn’t think you could still feel. You weren’t ready for what the video was about to give you. His smile was alluring as if promising you that you are something. His gaze reminding the viewers of strength innate in them even after years of mistreatment from life. To have an artist properly encapsulate all the emotions in you just had you hooked. You wanted more.
No.
You need more.
‘By. Hongjoong.’
You’ve never heard of this artist before. Is he new to the music scene?  There’s next to nothing about this Hongjoong online. Just this song on what you assume is his YouTube channel. Just a few thousand views for now. There are a few comments, praising him for his music and his looks (you had to admit, he does look quite attractive.) but not much for you to go about. For now, you drop a like and subscribed to the guy’s channel.
Within the next few days, the views rose to the millions. Comments in various languages were pouring in, all of which seemed to be praise. The comment section has become a forum, people asking others about him. Even you were reading comments hoping for more information. The only sign that he was a real entity behind the screen was the description on his video.
It wasn’t there when you first viewed the music video.
“Hello there. I am Kim Hongjoong. This is my first single, Numb. Please look forward to my future releases!”
He stayed true to his word. Over the past few months, his following has grown. He doesn’t have any other social media account except his Youtube and Instagram (that was only opened recently). While there was a distance between him and his fans in terms of interactions, his music made up for it. His music much like his first single, stayed consistent for being for an audience who have been ignored by life, who struggle for a break. Say My Name, his second single reached a million views within two days. Much like the title, more and more people are talking about him. His music is played in shops and restaurants. It’s hitting the top of the charts and staying there for weeks. He never leaves the Top 10 at least.
People assumed he was going to be a one hit wonder, a lot of independent artists are. But he’s proven them wrong, not through posts on Instagram but through consistently dropping song after song. Songs that remain stuck in your head for weeks to come until he drops another one. The new one being better than the former. He was only getting started. The media and general public have called him a digital monster. Yet, despite all the songs he’s released, no one knows who he really is. Any interview he’s done with the media only scratches the surface of his musical process and his personality. There’s more to him, you’re sure but you just couldn’t place what that ‘more’ is.
People were already commenting on his social media and making posts begging for him to do a concert, or any sort of live performance. Surely his music would sound much better in real life?
On the other hand, there were those who weren’t into his style. They assume and point fingers at him for being someone who associated themselves with the Anti-Christ due to his heavy imagery and music. It’s an age old argument with no solid proof to back it up. Any tongue that speaks against Hongjoong’s music was quickly dealt with by his fans. Though you didn’t like the way they dealt with the opposing views, they had it coming.
After Horizon’s release, he dropped another video. Not a music video, but it seems like him talking to the camera.
“Hello everyone. This is Kim Hongjoong.”
You didn’t think he would speak in such a soft tone. He was dressed head to toe in black, very reminiscent and consistent with his music style, not that you expected anything different. It just seems to fall in line with who he is from what you’ve seen.
“To everyone’s delight, I will be doing a countrywide tour within the next few months. The dates, venues and where to buy are in the description down below. I hope to see you there.” He doesn’t say anything else, but the corners of his lips curve, a charming smile, very much unlike the dark heavy gazes and grins he dons in his music videos.
The video announcement quickly gains views and comments. Foreign fans weeping for an opportunity they can’t experience, begging him to visit them too. Local fans were celebrating in the comments, excited to hear his other hits, especially his debut song, Numb.
To your delight, he’s doing a show near your area. You had to see this guy in the flesh. What better way to deal with your frustrations than with live music? There’s something about his music and him that gives you such an emotional high and that was from just the screen, what more if it were live? You immediately got yourself a ticket, before it got sold out.
Two months before D-day.
--------
Hongjoong has been monitoring the numbers and interactions done on his posts. It’s easy to see how delighted he is. Even with next to no information about him, he managed to garner a loyal following not only here but internationally as well.
Here’s the thing with this Kim Hongjoong. He’s not human. Not in the fandom praise for his superb skills in music making, no, he’s not from the human realm. Instead, he’s a demon. A demon that feeds on the frustrations of humans. Those wronged by life and society were the most susceptible to his charms. Every night, he walks through the streets, unrecognized by the public. ‘How stupid.’ He thinks as they pass by him without batting an eyelash. He can smell the catharsis of those who listen to his creations. It’s only then that he can point out those who carry bitterness in their hearts, otherwise he waits.
He feels himself get stronger with each passing day. Soon, he’ll be able to show why he’s one of the Greater Princes of Hell. Lesser demons and humans as his soldiers? How delightful would it be to have the damned souls work for him. Surely it would make Wooyoung jealous but he delights in his jealousy.
Was he worried that he won’t get as strong as he wants to? Not at all. Nothing to be worried about when the numbers show just how much people have become an avid follower of his regardless of distance.
Now one might wonder why he does this. What else other than to prove to the beings above him that the ones that call the shots with humans are beings like him? The fearful physique and near perfect mentality of the angels are what pushes people away from believing in redemption. Meanwhile him? He and his fellow demons look like anyone else, save for the striking eye colors and sharper than usual teeth. It’s easy to creep on humans when they deem you as one of them.
He’s careful though, making sure no one recognizes him by his voice when he’s out with the humans. The glamour of being “mysterious” does more than what his peers expected. With the concerts coming up, it makes it easier for him and his fellow demons to find potential hosts to continue their work.
He’s not foolish.
--------
It’s D-Day and you made sure you looked decent for a long night. In the months that led to this fateful day, you’ve made friends with those who were also fans of Hongjoong. A lot of them were chaotic, but it was something you’ve come to accept. There were always going to be fans that would start a fight for the sake of their favorite artist. While you weren’t one of them, you weren’t one to stop them either should they start fighting someone. Who are you to tell them what to do when you blind yourself at the face of violence.
The lights dim, thick smoke pour from the sides and Hongjoong enters the stage much to the roaring of the fans. They chant his name over and over. It almost feels like a prayer with how fervent they are.
His cocky grin graces his features, with a wave of his hand, the cheering grows louder. It’s loud enough to make the venue feel hot and sticky from the energy.
This is what he wanted.
“Hello everyone! I hope all of you are prepared for the best night of your lives.” He coos into the mic. You could already hear a few women shrieking for his attention to which he gives.
The show stars and entire venue feels like it’s shaking from the constant jumping from the crowd. For a split second, you were a little scared of how the ceiling might cave in from the collective jumping. The chants from the fans are reaching a feverish high. The volume and emotion behind the voices of people who seem to have suffered the same life as you: mistreated, ignored, kicked to the side. All of them want to be heard, to feel as if someone understands.
Hongjoong does. Just not in the way they expected.
Somewhere through the show, you lose sight of your friends. All of them have managed to reach near the barricade, hoping to get a fleeting touch of his hand. As if his touch would be the solution to all their problems. Hongjoong stays near the edge of the stage but never does he go near the crowd, much to their desire to be closer to him.
‘Fools.’ The thought is hidden behind a dark smirk. Some on the side have decided to argue, saying that his smirk was for them and not the other.
Everything feels suffocating; the smoke from the smoke machine, along with the pulsating bodies as if moving as one around you. You feel lightheaded, overwhelmed but heavens be damned because at the same time, you feel so alive. It feels like the crowd is moving as one to Hongjoong’s voice. Despite the suffocation, everything feels so right.
The safety is short lived. To the side, you see a fight breaking out between two guys. You couldn’t clearly see what’s going on but you could tell that punches were being thrown from either side. It’s gotten to the point where the bouncers had to kick them out of the venue, the crowd filling in on the gaps of where the two once were. The show carries on, but you opt to stick to the back to stay out of the still brimming chaos within the crowd.
He’s not fazed by the violence the erupts in the crowd. He lives for it actually. It’s what he wanted to happen. All the emotions concentrated in one room, nothing could beat this feeling. Not even a seat in Heaven could replace the feeling of pleasure he receives from his followers.
The show ends with his debut song Numb. You never left your spot near the exit, you can only imagine the chaos if you left with the crowd of people once the show ends. He blows a few kisses to the crowd, bidding them goodbye and that he’ll see them soon. Whenever that might be.
You leave the premises when he leaves the stage. Time to avoid the crowds.
He stays inside the venue, taking in all the emotions and catharsis as much as possible. It’s the aftermath that always tastes the best. The dazed feeling of his followers as their emotions crash from such a high cathartic moment. The surplus of violent catharsis momentarily has his eyes turn white. It’s rather difficult to keep the human facade when you feel the power surge through your body. Unfortunately, keeping the facade of a human while taking what you need in order to become stronger makes it much more difficult. Such a prison can only take so much.
After all, should the people hold onto their bitterness, it can only give way to violence.
A fellow Greater Demon, a being who named himself Jongho for the sake of normalcy,  somehow eyes the still lingering crowd with interest. “You’ve outdone yourself once more. The last you did this was centuries ago wasn’t it?” He can still taste the left over frustrations, such shall be left with the people. Give them some time and that small seed becomes something bigger especially with what Hongjoong still has up his sleeve. The last time Hongjoong had tried to look for a host, disaster struck the nation and forced him into hiding until recently. “What are you going to do with the left overs?”
“That’s right. I failed to find a potential host back then. The potential hosts I wanted just disintegrated into ashes.” He mutters. It’s thanks to him the phenomenon of spontaneous human combustion came to light. He straightens himself up, his eyes flashing white as he tries to contain the energy he has absorbed. “As for the leftovers, let the people keep it. Chaos shall ensue with what I have next.”
“Did you find someone now?” The plan Hongjoong has doesn’t matter to Jongho. What matters is that Hongjoong finds a potential host. That won’t suffer the same fate as those in the past.
He remembers you, clearly staying towards the back, always turning a blind eye to the violence that was around you and he grins.
--------
The cool air outside the venue was a needed break from everything. It’s only then that you realize how hungry and exhausted you are. Truth be told, after that concert, you could probably sleep for a week with how physically and emotionally exhausted you are.
But first things first. You need to eat.
You find yourself in a fast food restaurant. It was the only thing you could stomach after such a long day of running around with friends and an emotionally charged concert.
There weren’t much people in the establishment. Only two tables were occupied and they were clearly people who didn’t attend the concert. You sit by the corner, busying yourself with your burger and nuggets. The iced fruit juice could tide over your thirst until you head home.
You look up when you see someone enter the premises. If it weren’t for your quick reflexes, you would’ve dropped your food.
It’s Kim Hongjoong. Only he’s already out of his stage clothes but his makeup still gives him away.
There’s nowhere to hide from his view. Instead, you look down and focus on your meal. You try to eat as fast as you can even at the risk of choking.  It’s too much for your poor heart. You who went through adrenaline, frustration, anger, then relief in one day. To be in the same establishment as The Kim Hongjoong was too much for you to keep up with.
“Is this seat taken?”
You look at the feet then look up. You try to hide the fact you could recognize him but from the sound of his chuckle, you failed. You gesture to the seat across you as you try to chew slowly. Kim Hongjoong is in front of you. Surely this is just a dream?
He chuckles softly at how you’re staring at him still. “Yes I’m real.” He says as if reading your mind. He finds your shy nature a little endearing, just what he needs for his plans.
“I thought you would still be in the venue…” You admit softly as you try to eat slowly this time. Surely it would be rude to finish before him now that he had just started eating?
“I never agreed to any meet and greet so I managed to leave the premises early.” He explains. It’s whiplash how soft his mannerisms were compared to his music. “What’s your name? You were in my concert weren’t you?” He asks, gesturing to the neon band wrapped around your wrist.
Before you could deny anything, he catches you red handed. You relent to his wishes and tell him your name. “How could you even see me? I was at the back.” Surely he couldn’t see you through all the blinding lights.
He just shoots you a mischievous wink. “I have my ways, dear.” He leads the conversation for the rest of the time, asking you how you found him, your thoughts about his music, and so on. It felt like you were just talking to an old friend who just made it big. You felt at ease with him.
You look at the time and nearly jump out of your seat. “Crap, it’s late. I have to go..” You admit, dejected at having to cut the conversation short. Hongjoong had other plans though, he stood up, grabbing what’s left of his fries and his iced coffee.
“I can give you a ride home. Where do you live?”
This is too good to be true.
--------
On the ride home, he asks you about yourself, your life, how you find yourself holding up despite everything. You admit that you have a hard time holding yourself up, even having daydreams of the unspeakable. That mere idea puts a frown on his face. The stoplight turns red and his fingers immediately tip your chin up to make you look at him in the eye. The tip of his thumb brushes against the bottom of your lip and in your shock of how fast he moves, your mouth is left slightly open.
“Don’t.”
There’s something in his tone that tells you to not go against his words. It’s perhaps better to not divulge your daydreams, so you promise that you won’t.
He flashes a warm smile at you just in time for the stoplight to turn green.
You don’t know that he’s already imparted a bit of his essence into you. ‘Humans, how gullible.’
---------
By the time he drops you outside your apartment complex, you’ve exchanged contact details. Both sides hope to stay in touch as much as possible. “Thank you for the ride! Stay safe on the road!” You say as you jog inside.
The male watches you enter the premises of your complex before driving off. Jongho materializes on the seat you left. “How was it?”
The grin on Hongjoong’s lips tells him everything he needed.
---------
Time has passed and the two of you have been talking consistently day in and day out. The genuinity of the bond was something that made you feel like life was a little bearable now. Shitty but still bearable thanks to Hongjoong and his music. You’ve admitted to him how your life hasn’t been the best and how his music has been something helping you through.
It’s radio silence by next week. No matter how many messages you send him, you receive no sign of him reading it or a response. You genuinely feared losing someone you considered a friend (and a crush but let’s not talk about that). Did he just ghost you?
The silence stretches into months, and the happiness you felt in the previous weeks have disappeared, morphing into the familiar dread you’re too familiar with by now. You’ve accepted the fact that he may have just ghosted you but the radio silence on his youtube channel tells you there’s more to just the regular ghosting.
“BREAKING: Rock icon, Kim Hongjoong has been deemed missing. More info to come at 5PM.”
Something in your stomach drops and you look around you. Hongjoong had already amassed a large following over the past year. In this room alone, you could assume there were ten fans. All eyes were glued to the tv screen. In the distance you hear a loud explosion and sirens, you get out of your seat immediately, leaving the premises. What the fuck is going on?
By the time you stepped foot outside the restaurant, someone comes barreling towards you. Isn’t this the same guy that caused a fight in his concert? You could recognize steely eyes anywhere, but what was his name? The more important question is, why does he look so bloodied and dirty? Also, what was he running from? The two of you stare at each other for a moment before the police have come chasing after him. You’re left with no option but to give way to his chasers.
It’s better to head home than to stay out any longer at this rate.
“BREAKING: Suspect of the explosion earlier today has been caught along with his accomplices.”
Finally back at home, the news outlets have been trying to keep up with the sudden influx of events. Kim Hongjoong has been missing for five days. The explosion from earlier was made by a Kang Yeosang who is, coincidentally, also a fan of Hongjoong. It’s already known everywhere that a fan of Hongjoong is good enough of a cult member. Now Hongjoong might not have mentioned anything about a better land or the second coming like most cult leaders but with the amassed following he has despite his disappearance, they might as well be a cult.
There’s speculation on social media as to what exactly had happened to Hongjoong but nothing is for certain. Fanbases are trying to find Hongjoong’s whereabouts only to come up empty. Fake accounts are popping up, proclaiming themselves to be Hongjoong, giving false leads to anyone who believes.
Some fans have resorted to violence, hoping to get back the artist that they think genuinely understands them. It’s a warzone online and in real life. You’re seeing posts, unsure if they’re real or not, of fans wishing they were the ones that disappeared instead of Hongjoong. Overwhelmed with everything, you shut off your phone and bury yourself in your bed. His music plays faintly and it’s the only thing that’s holding you to the real world.
Everything else doesn’t feel real.
As each day passes, there’s another case of violence and death. It’s got the city by its neck with how rampant the chaos has been. The only way you’re staying sane through it all is through your detachment to all the violence that runs amok around you.
“BREAKING: a 22 year old man caught dead after pretending to be the missing artist Kim Hongjoong online. More information on the found mass burial site to follow at 6PM”
You’ve busied yourself by searching the internet for other artists, hoping to find someone to fill in the hole Hongjoong has left. None of them do the job the way Hongjoong does it. You try to call his number, hoping for something.
“The number you have dialed is out of use. Please check the number you have dialed and try again.”
Please let this just be a dream.
You had a restless sleep that night, tossing and turning. Your dreams were wrought with Hongjoong’s voice, screaming for your help. His voice surrounds your helpless figure until you stop in your tracks and scream out in pain. You’re jolted awake and you feel your body drenched in sweat and fear.  “Hongjoong, where are you?” You plead softly, utterly helpless.
The leads regarding Hongjoong decrease as each day passes and fans and the general public have resigned themselves to the fate that he had died. Some of his fans have gone their own ways, though their chaotic ways have never faltered. You on the other hand, still tried to find traces of him despite not knowing a lot about him.
---------
On the other side of the city, Hongjoong watches the news from Jongho’s living quarters. He’s delighted to see the stress and fear from regular humans. A little variety from the stress of his followers. It’s a good thing he left some violence behind with his followers, those who have nothing to lose do cause the best havoc. Maybe he should keep that Yeosang guy alive to learn a few more tricks. He doesn’t need to tell his followers what to do. Just disappear at the height of his fame and let them do the work.
He takes a shot of vodka as he continues to watch on. Jongho splayed on the couch, watches as well. “What do you think?”
“Perfect. I think Lucifer would be delighted in this. I can already tell my legions are growing with the amount of deaths.”
“How soon will the war be then?” Jongho’s legions are already waiting for his word. His human body appears to be a lot tankier than expected.
“Give my host three months, their nature is perfect in amassing followers around the globe.”
--------
You have another dream that night, a familiar voice with that addicting smile. “Hongjoong?” You call out, running wherever his voice is coming from.  “Hongjoong where are you?!” You call out again but he doesn’t reply, he only giggles at how strained you are to look for him. While it’s perfect to strike when they least expect it, it’s also just as good to strike when they’re at their weakest.
You somehow manage to find him. He looks a little different now, stronger, and something about him doesn’t feel human. He sits on a throne, painted white with obsidian sprinkled upon the back. He doesn’t seem affected by how distraught and confused you look. In fact, he actually laughs at your face at how pitiful you look. He gives you a set of instructions. All of which point to a war that only heaven and hell can conceive.
“Only then can you find me, my dear. Don’t let me down.”
Your eyes glow white when you wake up. Who are you to deny his wishes?

The Captain’s Rambling - How TW:OPT was written
Well, today (it's already the 29th of September in my timezone) is a special day and I just uploaded the newest chapter with interesting things going on in there. I did promise that I will tell you how Twisted-Wonderland: Our Precious Treasure was written, right? Well, gather around children. The captain has a story to tell.
I think it was around March of this year and I think it was the early stage of quarantine in my country. I was like relaxing, watching YouTube while having an online class at the same time (please, don't do this at home). Around that time my autoplay got me some Black Butler amv and being that girl who never watches popular anime, I only have the vaguest idea about Black Butler except everyone seems thirsty over Sebastian. But the concept of master & servant always interests me. So, I tried actively search for some Black Butler AMV until finally, I came across a thumbnail of 'Ciel'. However, I soon found out that it was not a Black Butler AMV, but instead, it was the Twisted Wonderland opening song.
youtube
My first thought was: "Oh no. Is Disney making another Kingdom Hearts series?"
After a quick search in Wikipedia, I decided to cruise through Tumblr, seeing some cute stuff, and then, just out of curiosity, I check whether there was any fanfiction of this game. Lo and behold, Archive of Our Own has a section already. So, of course, I wanted to read some fics, because that's apparently my job. While very early there are some Canon Characters/Reader fics, I tend to avoid it for now, I found a fic titled 'Beyond the Looking-Glass' and it's also a crossover with Kingdom Hearts. So, I was like: "Okay. Let's give it a try." A few sentences later I found a familiar name: 'Hikari'. My brain was a bit slow at that time so I scrolled back up and looked at the author and then it suddenly clicked and I got a surprise. Ah... No wonder that name sounded familiar...
Tumblr media
A quick visit back to Tumblr and I found out that, yes, it was the same Hikari KH OC that. Apparently, wingbladeweaver1357 also plays Twisted Wonderland? Okay...
That somehow convinced me to give this game a try.
Reading the fanfic wasn't enough so I watched Ami Yoshiko Twisted Wonderland videos and then Shel_BB's translation to understand the plot so I can follow the fanfic too. Slowly but surely, I started to fell in love with the game.
However, it wasn't enough for me.
So, I was reading the translation for Episode 3 and I reached the part where MC signed the contract with Azul. And I remember thinking: "A very miss opportunity to make it a 'Poor Unfortunate Soul' musical segment." And it gave me an idea: what if I write a songfic just for that scene?
However, there was a problem. Because the MC/Yuu is basically our self-insert, many people, including me, have their own interpretation. So, if I write a (Y/N) fic with my interpretation of the MC/Yuu, it would probably only appeal to a small audience.
So, I decided to make my own MC. And thus, Jonah Argentum was born. But his creation story is a story for another time.
With my MC/OC created, I can actually start writing. However, another problem started. How do I introduce my MC/OC into this songfic? Would the reader able to connect with him in his first debut?
And then, I got a crazy idea. What if I basically adapt the whole game with my MC/OC?
Around that time, the fanfictions weren't as many as now and more of them are Canon Characters/Readers or Original Female Character(s). Nothing wrong with that, but I sort of wish that we have more Original Male Character(s) just for variety. Most of the fanfics that were following the canon plot hadn't even passed the Prologue. So... Why not? I think I'm part of the earliest fic posted in AO3's Twisted Wonderland fandom. I'm not the first one to do this adaptation, but I think I'm the first one with male MC/OC.
After reading some translation and imagining the whole this as an anime, on 15 April 2020, the first two chapters of Twisted-Wonderland: Our Precious Treasure was posted.
Throughout April, I managed to finish adapting Welcome to the Villains' World, and on May 4th (because Star Wars day) I posted the first chapter of The Crimson Tyrant and I think I was the first one to start with the Heartslabyul adaptation.
On the first update, I decided to make a Tumblr account to write my notes for each chapter, because I have some references and trivia I want to write and I'm afraid that I would be too much if I post it on the note section of AO3. And thus, officially started the Behind the Fic - TW:OPT.
By the time the fic reached 100 kudos, I decided to write something to celebrate. Now that at least I have some readers who are familiar with Jonah, I felt like it would be okay if I write that Poor Unfortunate Soul songfic. It became the first fic in the Twisted-Wonderland: Our Precious Treasure - Gaiden.
Around June, I suddenly had an idea to maybe branched out to Wattpad, because of course that site has a Twisted Wonderland fandom. And thus, around 6 June 2020, Twisted-Wonderland: Our Precious Treasure was re-posted on Wattpad.
And in August I found out that FanFiction.net finally has its own page for Twisted Wonderland. So, of course, I wanted to post it there too, because it's basically going back to my roots. I started in FF.net, of course, I would eventually come back to that site. Thus, starting 25 August 2020, Twisted-Wonderland: Our Precious Treasure is available on FanFiction.net
Do you think I went overboard with the re-post? Probably yes.
The fanfic is still going strong even though the update wasn't as frequent as it usually did once, but even until now I still enjoy writing it. It's strange on itself. I usually got bored by Chapter 10, but with TW:OPT we're only 11 chapters away from hitting the 100th Chapter Mark. Today's chapter is the adaptation of the original idea to make it a songfic, and thus I feel like it would be a perfect time to tell the origin story.
Another thing that today is my birthday, so I decided to give you guys something other than the update.
Thank you so much for those who had been sticking around for this small fic (I guess I can't call it small anymore, huh?) whether you were there since the beginning or finding it through Tumblr or just finding it now. Thank you for giving this fic a chance. I tried my best to reply to all the comments posted there to show that I appreciate the responses, kudos, and bookmarks. Thank you as well for those who had been sticking around Tumblr. I hope you don't mind my notes.
A special thanks to @wingbladeweaver1357 for being my inspiration to write this fic as well.
Well, then. If you want to ask anything, my DM and Ask Box is always open.
And I guess I should say this...

Patience: Cross Me - Director Krennic x Reader (Rogue One)
@mandy23b @3134045126 I like that both of you came to me with Patience ideas for Krennic... of all the Mendos!?
Tumblr media
Author’s Note: If Krennic is the first Sin I finished, then it makes sense for him to be the first Virtue I finish (Also Wrath/Patience are the pair, so that’s also awesome!)
Shout out to my girls for coming up with two very different ideas that I stitched together here! I changed a few little details, so, I hope you still like it! As there is a connection to Wrath here it could be viewed as part of the same story...  This song is Youtube’s autoplay fault. To be honest, you can listen to it from either her or his POV...  I mean certainly “If you cross him, then you cross me” was my original thinking for using this but then there’s also “If you hear about my lady... she ain’t no one to play with” So! It works either way! ;)  Disclaimer: Star Wars characters not mine! Lyrics not mine! GIFs not mine! Premise (As requested by @mandy23b): I was rereading Wrath... And I was struck by the moment the Creepy Guy called him an “old man” - I was ready to come for him swinging. I half expected the reader to land a solid punch on him for saying that about her man. So I thought a good idea for the Patience virtue would be the reader has to be so patient and controlled not to beat up everyone who talks sh*t about Krennic ❤️ Of course she especially can’t go after Tarkin or the higher ups but eventually she’s gonna snap on a petty officer or civilian because no one talks about her man like that (not if she can help it). And of course our drama queen Krennic kinda loves this. He loves that his partner will defend him like he’ll defend her.  Further Inspiration from @3134045126: Patience with Orson Krennic - Reader is waiting for a nice evening with Krennic. Everything is ready, dinner is ready, Reader looks fancy as heck, everything is perfect... and then Krennic arrives. He's beside himself in anger and frustration. So much so he completely dismisses Reader and their efforts. Reader being the level-headed and patient one waits him out before approaching him. Basically, so I don't go on and on: Krennic would thank Reader for being so patient with him even after acting like an ass Words: 4190 Warnings: Swearing / sexual connotations / fighting
Me and her have something different  I really need all you to understand That nobody's coming close But you know I f**king love her now Like nobody ever could I'm sticking with my baby for sure Together or solo It doesn't matter where we are, So if you hear about my lady, just know  That she ain't the one to play with, oh no And I'll be standing so close So you know that... If you cross her, then you cross me  And nobody's coming close, yeah  And I think that you should know that If you cross her, Then you cross me
Now what you not gon' do Is stand there 'cross from me... Death stare, crossed arms, running your mouth like a faucet Blowing air out, wear you out, you exhausted Know she gonna slide anytime you bitches talk shit No one say hi to me without her Better pay your respect to the Queen Better do that shit without a flirt Gotta respect the HBIC Couple of things that you need to know If you still wanna be friends with me Just know, if you cross her, then you cross me Nobody's coming close, yeah And I think that you should know that If you cross her, Then you cross me Quit messin' with my baby for sure Together or solo It doesn't matter where we are, oh no, no So if you hear about my lady, just know That she ain't the one to play with, oh no And I'll be standing so close If you cross her, Then you cross me

noun
the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.
Everything was ready. You’d been planning this evening for months. Not that it was particularly hard for you to get onto Krennic’s schedule; he’d always be clearing spaces for you if you asked nicely enough. But you were aware that sometimes those spaces would have important meetings either side of them, or that – when he cleared you a space - five minutes meant five minutes. Tonight, however, you had him all to yourself. Guaranteed. He’d told you that this morning; grabbing your hand and pulling you into his office… You shook that thought away quickly, flustered. You looked good, your make up perfect, dress flawless. You weren’t that type of person but even you were checking yourself out in the mirror tonight. You’d made dinner even, because you knew all his attention would be on you. There was a good bottle of champagne in your own quarters – ha, like you ever resided in your quarters anymore-! – that you’d dug out and was chilling. It was going to be the perfect evening. You were determined to make it so. Nothing could ruin it. Nothing. You’d had a great day at work too, you’d even been let off early. Things were going nice and smooth, and you couldn’t be more grateful. Obviously, you also shouldn’t have spoken too soon. Orson Krennic was not a happy man as he stepped into his quarters. Of course, you were busy when he entered so didn’t see him right away. “Hey-! You’re back-!” And not a second late either; when he said a time he usually stuck to it. You walked back through into the main living area with a beaming smile on your face; “How was your day at work?” “Heh. Let’s just not start.” Your face didn’t fall at first because even if it was bad, tonight could make it better. You knew he had frustrating days at work, and if you worked late how he’d always come to find you to just talk. You had the ability to always send him away with a smile on his face. You liked that as much as Krennic did. “Oh… Well do you want to talk about it?” “No.” He wasn’t looking at you either. But he’d put his data pad down on the counter and was scrolling through statistic sets that were making the scowl on his face worse. You took a deep breath and crossed to him. But even the tap of your heels on the flooring didn’t make him look up at you. That was unusual. He always liked to know what you were wearing… Usually so he could make a quip about taking it off… “If it’s only going to make things worse… do you think you should be looking at it right now? Baby, come and sit down… We can have dinner… and take your mind off-” “Y/N. Not right now, this is important.” You stopped short; Oh…. It wasn’t enough to put you off trying “Well… I mean, your health and mind is also important… Please… sit down. Dinner is almost ready anyway.” This time he did look away from the figures, but only to turn that scowl on you “I said not right now!” You bit your lip. Well… this wasn’t how the evening was supposed to go… You took another breath, because those hard blue eyes were still on you, but it was obvious he wasn’t about to compliment what you were wearing. “I just want to help.” “Well right now you can’t.” You gave a nod “I’m sure I can’t, these things you work on are amazing… It’s not my field either but… I don’t know if… Bringing it home is… Good for you.” “Home!?” There was a scoff “Home?! These are my quarters.” “I didn’t mean it like that… I just meant wouldn’t it be better that you did this at your desk? In a place where there’s no distraction?” “You think you’re a distraction?” He didn’t ask the question to make you believe you weren’t, either. “Besides. I am supposed to be spending time with you now. Like you asked. So here I am.” “…But your attention will be on your work… And, baby, if it’s important – I suggest you do it in your office…” His eyes flicked back to his data pad “I can’t guarantee when I’ll be finished.” You didn’t like to think about what dinner would be like by the time he had decided he was finished. Looked like you would reluctantly be eating alone – but you were still determined not to let him ruin your mood or your evening. He would come back to you, he had to. Especially if you refused to rise to an argument. “That’s fine. Now will you please go and do the work that so urgently needs doing… Yell at the people who have clearly done something wrong…” His expression twitched, and either you had hit a nerve or he was remembering that someone else hit a nerve. When he didn’t raise his voice to you any further you knew which one it was. “…Fine.” He closed his technology back up and turned back to you “I will see you… later.” “You will.” You affirmed it, to let him know he wouldn’t be getting away with leaving you that easily. With that he swept from the room once more and you found yourself alone again. You sighed. It appeared you’d be taking yourself to dinner. A few hours later the door reopened. You were staring at the stars from the viewing window, but heard the way he dragged his footsteps and the pad clatter onto the sideboard. Oh. He shuffled around the kitchen area a little more, before you heard him step down to join you. His footsteps were tentative; but he didn’t hesitate on wrapping his arms around you and burying his face in your shoulder. He knew what he’d done “…I’m sorry…” “Oh? You’re apologising?” You kept your arms folded and your eyes fixed on the galaxy before you. Krennic didn’t nod, or agree with you. There was a tone to your voice that didn’t sound impressed… but you only half meant it. There were a few more moments of silence than he wanted; so he repeated himself “I’m sorry.” “Babe. I heard you the first time…” You rested your head gently on his and laced your fingers together “And I know. Rough days happen. That’s why I don’t like you bringing work home.” “It is home.” “Yes it is…” You agreed with his mumble, still into your shoulder “…Have you eaten?” “…Barely.” You shook your head “Well you missed dinner but I can make you something…” “No no… I don’t deserve-” You wheeled around so you were facing him “Hush! Don’t tell me what you deserve or not. Don’t talk like them. Hard days happen. Like I said… But that’s how you feel. Sometimes I want to put my fist through a screen… I can’t stop you from being frustrated at someone… I just… wish you didn’t…” “You didn’t deserve that.” You didn’t want to agree with him, but conceded “Yeah… But it wasn’t really aimed at me. I know that.” He took a step back, his body bent in curiosity “…How do you have so much patience?” “Because what would happen between us if I didn’t?” You smiled “Now please sit down, so I can at least have half an evening with you?” “Of course. I will… do just that…” He smiled gently “Can I at least… kiss you?” You smiled, “You may. If you tell me you went and shouted at those idiots.” “Well, it’s sorted…” He leant in and brushed his lips gently to yours. You kept your hands in his and followed his movement to pull away to keep the kiss for just a little longer. “Good. That’s what I want to hear…” You stepped away from him as he turned to the dining table. Krennic paused before he sat and looked back to you. He studied you for a minute with a smile; “You look beautiful…” You could feel that smile on your face... feeling lucky that your back was to him, you shook your head to suppress it just enough, and turned back. “Thank you!” *** Turned out during the course of your relationship, it wasn’t just Krennic who had to deal with idiots and assholes. Well, that wasn’t quite true. Usually if you had to deal with them it was ABOUT Krennic… Or rather, you forced yourself into situations that made them deal with you. Today, was no such exception; “HE SAID WHAT-!” “That’s just what I heard!” Your best friend and colleague held her hands up “WHAT THE…” You had to hold that word back for a minute “WHY-!? What the hell does he know-!? He’s not working on this project!” Apparently some lieutenant who thought he knew it all had been mouthing off that he would be able to complete Project Stardust better, and in a more timely manner, than your partner. Also, the man in question wasn’t an architect or engineer. Just some loudmouth who wanted to brag, liked the sound of his own voice – and figured trashing Krennic was a fashionable thing to do. Well, Tarkin did it enough you supposed. And you didn’t like that much either but there was only so much you could do when Tarkin did it. And most of that was just checking that Orson was okay. You didn’t have the authority to snap at Tarkin, and you couldn’t afford to dismiss your shift or simply piss the guy off. You could give your best glare, you supposed. But that was as far as it went. Anyone else was fair game. And boy, did you go hard.   “I… I don’t know, that’s just what I heard him say.” The look on your friends face clearly said she regretted telling you. But you were glad she did. Because no one was getting away with saying that about your man. “Where does he work?” “Oh no-! Oh-! No no no! I’m not watching you do this again.” “You don’t have to watch me, where does he work?” “What if they send you to disciplinary!?” You raised an eyebrow at her “I’d like to see them try.” “Try?!” Your look said Really!? “What part of dating a superior officer don’t you understand, if it even got to that point Krennic would have me out in seconds. Now answer the question.” She shook her head and didn’t say another word. Making you narrow your eyes; “You know I’m just gonna go find out, right?” “Yeah! But at least I’ll feel less like an accomplice!” In fact, you didn’t get around to looking him up until much later, just because you were so busy. And by the time you did get to researching exactly which station you’d be travelling to to give this asshole a piece of your mind, Orson appeared. “Who is…” he squinted at the name over your shoulder “Tazo Motti?” You didn’t even turn to him as you noted his floor number and work space; “A dick.” “Oh.” Krennic couldn’t help but chuckle; “Why? What did he do? Not something to you I would hope.” There was a or I’ll kill him myself missing from the end of that sentence. You shook your head and turned to face his amused blue eyes “No. And the line for beating this guys ass starts with me so…” He raised an eyebrow “What happened?” “That’s my business and nothing to concern yourself with Director… How’s it going?” “Eh. Slow… We have a couple of days respite to fix the ship starting tomorrow… I might head out to Geonosis again… Might stay… Can’t say at this point in time. But, I’ll keep you posted…” “Oh. Straight away?” “No. Why do you think I’m bothering you… Dinner?” “When?” “…Tonight… Tomorrow…” he brought up his schedule “… Either…” You thought about it, if you were all going to be on free time then you wouldn’t even have to bother finding Tazo’s work station. Just him. And you’d all be off duty, so, even less of a reprimand for you. “Tomorrow… might be better.” “…Okay…” He pinged you an invite “…Tomorrow it is… I shall find out what the options are on the base. Make reservations… We’ll be set. And now I’ll let you work… or…” he nodded to the screen “…Focus back on this asshole…” He looked again at his title “He’s not even in either of our remits.” You turned back to him with a smirk that was even less of a smile than if it was fake. “EXACTLY.” ** “You’re kidding.” “No.” “Y/N! You can’t!” “I can and I freakin’ will.” Your best friend wailed, following you off the ship and into the star port. An artificial planet like structure (although, not round like a planet should be) used for refuelling and repairing ships. The ship you were all currently based on had taken a fair few hits during the last rebel attack and would be here for a couple of days just to straighten out. Nothing too serious. But it was always best to check. You notice she didn’t stop you, which made you think really she wanted to watch whatever you would do to this guy. “Shouldn’t you think about this?!” “I have. ALL DAY!” You turned to her “You don’t have to follow me… I know what he looks like. This won’t take long.” “I’m not about to watch my best friend walk into a fight-!” “Fight?” Though you gave her a knowing smirk “Fight? Me-! Nooooo!” The sarcasm in your voice was a new level of high “Why would I do that-! I just want to have a nice friendly chat!” “Oh God-! Y/N! Why did I tell you!” “I don’t know. You should have known it’d come to this!” “You’re usually the calm patient one… I’ve heard the Director go off on one at subordinates before but you’re always so level… Except-” “Except when people think it’s okay to bad mouth my man. Exactly. You gotta let ‘em know…” you turned back and continued to walk across the metal structure “…that you won’t stand for it!” He wasn’t hard to spot. In fact he looked like the kind of asshole who got ideas far beyond his station. All talk. Time to see if he had any bite. You weren’t necessarily a betting girl but; probably not. “Tazo Motti?” He turned instantly from laughing with his friends to the sound of your voice “Yeah… Who’s asking…?” Then his eyes swept you “Oh… Wow. Now I knew I was good looking but damn. Girl.” You sighed inwardly. Really? REALLY?! “Actually I hear you’ve been talking shit.” You raised an eyebrow, “Is that true?” “What? Darlin’… You got the wrong man. But you got the right man for other things I could talk about.” “Really. From what I hear you think you can build our battle station better than the man in charge of the job. Is that correct?” “Who? Oh. Krennic? Yeah – that project would be done if I was in charge.” You were about to prove your friend wrong about fighting. He’d get three strikes... and you could get him to apologise and admit he was an idiot. But also, he’d just used those strikes in one sentence; it was amicable you’d let him continue this long. “Really? Last I checked you did communications. Whereas he’s both an engineer and an architect… and intelligence… AND a Director…” You tipped your head “What exactly qualifies you to do it better than him?” “Hell. Babe, you could work that project better than him. He clearly has no idea what he’s doing. Tarkin thinks he’s a waste of space and time and so do I-” Nope. You weren’t about to let this continue. You were strong with both hands so your first punch connected right; “THAT’S for calling me babe. I’m not your babe.” And the second connected even harder “THAT’S for thinking you are anywhere NEAR as talented as he is.” You brought your knee up into his stomach; “And that’s just for generally insulting him. To my face.” “What the F***-!” he just about managed “What the HELL-! WHO THE HELL-” His friends were all gathered around him now, all alert and looking ready to fight; “AM I?!” There was a fierce look in your eyes that dared them all to mess with you. “DATING HIM. ASSHOLE. SO you’re gonna f***ing take back everything you said, right now. Or what I just did will be the least of your problems.” He straightened; glaring at you.  “You going to make me fight a girl?” “Pft.” You scoffed looking him up and down “Fight me? Boy I’d like to see you try!”
It was an irritatingly short fight; not for lack of trying. Only, the commotion brought unwelcome attention and officers rushed to the scene to drag you both apart – literally. Your friend, clearly looking to be as unhelpful as possible, hung back and looked nervous. You could imagine in her head she was about to tell you how she’d warned you you’d be disciplined for it.   “Cool off! Both of you, this is unprofessional. It’s a good thing none of us are in uniform...!” “She started it-! Krennic’s little bitch-!” Tazo looked like he was fairing worse than you, as he spat blood “Call her that again and she’s not the only one going to be hitting you.” The officer holding him back was stern. “ME-!” It took your officers strength to hold you back, and even then, he staggered – hell hath no fury… “ONE more word about Krennic and I SWEAR—!!!!” You didn’t care what he was calling you, calling me a bitch like it’s a bad thing? If that’s what it takes… “That’s enough!” The officer, whose name was Tully and you knew worked for Tarkin, had to get someone else to help drag you away. And soon enough you were pushed almost to the other side of the walkway. “You gonna calm down?” “I am calm.” Tully raised a disbelieving eyebrow as you brushed yourself off “If that assho-” “Alright, alright, I get it.” “Do you?” Tully was a good officer, he wasn’t really a friend but more than just an acquaintance, and every time you’d seen each other around you’d make a passing sarcastic comment.  You took a deep breath, taking it out on him wasn’t fair, but you were also kinda pissed that he’d held you back. “It’s just I see and hear people do this to him all the time. Tarkin? I can’t do anything about that – but these…” You held yourself back from swearing “… I hate seeing it. He doesn’t deserve it. Orson is doing his best just like everyone… He’s using exactly the same skill set as everyone else. But if he does it it’s wrong. Hypocritical! I just get SO mad.” “You hide it well.” And his compliment was genuine. “Until I snap. Today was one of those days…” You folded your arms “I guess I should thank you.” “No you shouldn’t.” He smiled “I don’t know many who would do what you just did.” He looked you over “And you didn’t fair too bad.” “He also called me babe…” “Oh. Then he deserved everything, should have said – would have decked him myself.” “On behalf of Krennic?” “And you. Of course.” He turned to your friend “Now what’s say we ditch this joint, find a better bar and hang out? Hmmm? Before you get yourself into any more trouble.” You wore a slight pout “Aw, okay. But I was just starting to have fun..!” All three of you turned to the bar Tully had just pushed you from, where Tazo was now sitting on a bar stool being tended to where he was bleeding – looking like you might have also done some real damage from the way he was holding himself. Good. That made you smile triumphantly, should shut him up. You flicked your hair back with a roll of your head and shoulders. And with a feel-good confidence you walked away – small smirk, which mirrored the kind Krennic always gave you, on your lips. “I think I’ve seen all I need to see here…”
 ***
You walked back to Krennic’s quarters, rubbing your arm. Putting on a brave face after sassily walking away was fine. But you realised how much you hurt; you were smaller than Tazo - but you more than held your own. Like you’d won, right? And if he said any more trash talk, you’d have no qualms going back and beating his ass again.
You ached a little bit... but felt intact... you glanced at the polished walls for affirmation. Your hair was a little bit of a mess; so you neatened it. There was a small cut on your cheek and your legs and arms ached. The one you were rubbing significantly more... But at least you weren’t spitting blood! You snickered to yourself - impressed. Even though you shouldn’t have been. You probably were lucky you weren’t in uniform or you’d be reprimanded.
You beeped yourself into his quarters and came face to face with an amused looking Krennic. He was a little dressed down. Black dress shirt and pants. He’d probably been out into town for drinks with his group of ‘friends’ (Friends? Prospects? Krennic didn’t distinguish. You doubted he had real friends beyond Galen.). “What?” He was sitting facing the door on a dining room chair. There was a glass on the table and a workbook of thick sketching paper, accompanied by assorted pencils. He smirked; leaning his hands on his knees. “What?” He repeated and stood up. Then he laughed, like there was a joke in his head he couldn’t possibly keep to himself; “You! You think I wouldn’t hear about what you did?!” Your face fell slightly - who the hell had told him!? “Oh. I wasn’t sure it’d get back to command...” “You’re kidding?!” He continued to chuckle, “Some commander came rushing up to me in the bar and couldn’t get his words out fast enough. Said I should be having words with you...” Orson laughed again, wiping what you assumed were tears from his eyes “I think it’s hilarious!!” He calmed himself and bit his lip, looking at you with adoration “But it’s also rather endearing. Now I know you’d do something like that for me.” “I’m NOT letting some jackass go around saying things like that about you!” He smiled gently “And so you shouldn’t... but I thought words would be enough.” “Words?” You folded your arms “Babe, I thought actions spoke louder than words. I used words. He abused my kindness – three strikes and out!” “How many words? Like three?” “Enough.” “What, you gave him one sentence...?” He was teasing you now, and you puffed your cheeks with a pout “He’s lucky he got that!” Orson laughed again “I’m sure he was...” placing his index finger to your forehead Orson gave you a gentle, yet teasing, smile “You know... what you need is a little more patience.” Oh-! Like he was one to talk! You swatted his hand away, placing your own on your hips. Putting all your sass into the movement of tipping your body; “HA! I think I use up all my patience on you!” Krennic pursed his lips for a moment, then nodded – realising you had a point, “Okay...  touché.” He let that linger for just enough time, to let you feel like you had something over him, and promptly gathered you in his arms pushing his forehead to yours “However… I should still reprimand you for it. So, as a Director, I can say that I did.” “You’re not the boss of me…!” You teased, pushing yourself up to brush your lips to his. “Oh really?” “Absolutely. I don’t report to you.” “Ah-! But you report to someone, who reports to someone, who indirectly reports to me... so... still to me.” It was his turn to kiss you “Details I don’t care for. It’s not to you.” “Oh darling. Don’t make me prove to you that you do...” You smirked, and in your attempt to steal another kiss he pulled away as if to validate his point. You narrowed your eyes; “You’re about to find out how little patience I have, Orson.” “For me?” His face feigned innocence and this time he let you claim your kiss. “For you.” He smirked again, “No. Darling. I should probably show you... how little patience I have for standing here. With you looking like this. When I could be in my room removing those clothes for myself.” You raised an eyebrow, but pretty soon you were smirking for yourself “Ohhhh... I think that’s a different thing. But I have about as much patience for these buttons as I do for you...” He flicked his eyes toward his bedroom and back to you “Well... why don’t we simply let our patience run out then... hmmm..?”

what are some songs, albums, or artists that you have a strong attachment to?
AHHhHHH omg this is a loaded question because I can go on forever for music (and also thank you for sending me a message that isn’t about lingerie or my face lmao)!!!! I’m going to include some links because I love to be able to share music with people! These are in no particular order – just in order of me thinking about them.
Hollow Knight soundtrack. Christopher Larkin did an AMAZING job composing this soundtrack – and the game is amazing as well (one of the few games, in addition to Shadow of the Colossus, that makes me cry when I think about the ending). My favorite track on it is City of Tears. Check it out!
A lot of the songs and instrumental pieces from the original 1990′s Sailor Moon. Sailor Moon was my dang childhood and inspired me in a lot of things. Some of my favorite tracks:
Instrumental: Princess no tame ni…, Sailor Uranus and Neptune theme, sadness, otome kokoro, holy grail, eternal no ai
Songs: Moon Revenge, Kaze mo sora mo, kitto, Moonlight Densetsu, Senshi no Omoi, Ai dake ga dekiru koto, Ai no Senshi,
Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. The first time I heard this song, I was 18 and working my part-time job in a cutlery shop at the mall. Manager let me listen to whatever music I wanted when I did the store openings on the weekend, so I’d always listen to the classical music station. This piece came on and I was so moved that I sped home to download it on Napster and then find a physical copy of it on CD at Tower Records so I could listen to it on repeat for a month.
Marina & the Diamonds “Electra Heart” album. This got me through a particularly bad breakup and I listened to it several times a day. I loved her entire concept for the album and all the art that went into the promotional videos for it. I have a few characters on WoW that are Marina references. Some of my favorite tracks are: Starring Role, Valley of the Dolls, Fear and Loathing, Radioactive … I’m pretty sure at least 10% of my tumblr posts in 2012/13 were Marina-inspired. Such a good era.
The Beatles Eleanor Rigby. I grew up a Beatles fan because my mom was – she had all the vinyls, a bunch of memorabilia.. etc. Something about this song (And the entire Revolver album) gets to me.
WHAM! Last Christmas and Aqua’s Barbie Girl – these are two songs that I have always, and will always, sing my heart out at karaoke.
Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster album. I’m pretty sure that I did a million views alone on that Bad Romance song. Still one of my all-time favorites. Her Born This Way album means a lot to me too, because I listened to it a lot in Mists of Pandaria and that’s probably when I had the most fun w/ my friends and guldies in that game.
Mew - Repeaterbeater is probably one of my top songs from them. My ex (with whom I am still best of friends) introduced me to the band when we started dating in 2009 and like, I felt like I had missed out on life by not hearing of this amazing Danish band til then. I have about 20 CDs/albums from them – a lot of overseas limited prints and hard to find stuff. I really adore this band, and missing their show in SF due to the stomach flu in 2010(?iirc) is one of my biggest regrets. Comforting Sounds, Apocalypso, Am I Wry? No, and Satellites are also in my top songs from them.
The band 30 Seconds to Mars (at least, their A Beautiful Lie) holds a place in my heart because I listened to this a lot during my emo years and played this album a lot while PVPing in Lineage2 and also to and from classes. I’ve probably seen this band the most live – in two different countries as well! I have heard some problematic things about Jared Leto in the past few years that has kind of tarnished my love for the music, but it’s still an album that evokes a lot of emotion for me.
Poe - Haunted. She was one of the first performers I saw at a small venue for the 21+ crowd at a bar up in Orangevale (called The Boardwalk). I thought she was so cool, and bought her most recent album when we saw her. A lot of people may recognize her Hey Pretty song though. (Side note, first ever concert I attended was the Family Values Tour in 2001 w/ my friends in high school –  Stone Temple Pilots, Linkin Park, Puddle of Mudd, Staind, Static-X, and Deadsy played.)
Honestly, anything by Patrick Wolf. LOVE HIM. Such a talented musician. Reminds me of one of my closest friends who introduced me to his music. One of my favorite songs by him is Hard Times. His acoustic album Sundark and Riverlight was also amazing, as was the version of The Libertine from it!
Röyksopp - What Else is There? Karin Dreijer Andersson (The Knife/Fever Ray) has haunting vocals and it pairs so well w/ the music. I pretty much love most of Röyksopp’s stuff, but this song in particular reminds me of a friend I lost contact w/ over a decade ago.
Kings of Convenience - I’d Rather Dance with You. I’m sorry, but this is probably one of the best songs of all time. And, yes, this song was one of autoplay songs on my Myspace forever ago, lmao. Erlend Øye is literally so cool and you will never be as cool as him ok?
Mystery Skulls - Ghost. Man oh man. I remember listening to this on repeat while raiding cuz I was being emo over some guy LMAOOO. But I still really love this song, and the band is awesome as well! I’ve gotten a few of my friends (and my mom!!) into Mystery Skulls! Also — I’M PRETTY SURE ONE OF MY FRIENDS HERE ON TUMBLR WAS THE ONE WHO LINKED ME THIS SONG AND TOLD ME TO CHEER UP.
Deadmau5 - Ghosts n Stuff  2009 was a really good year for me personally, and also a lot of great music was filling my ears that year, including the For Lack of a Better Name album with this track on it. I love Pendulum, so having Rob Swire pair up on this track w/ Deadmau5, to me, was AHHHHmazing.
Janet Jackson - Velvet Rope. A really great song and it had a lot of personal meaning to me back in high school / college. I have always been a huge Janet fan and this came from one of my favorite albums of hers.
Gotye - Heart’s a Mess. I know a lot of people associate him with the popular track Somebody That I Used to Know w/ Kimbra, it’s a great track, don’t get me wrong, but this song is my favorite from him. Another song I listened to frequently through a breakup. I love Gotye’s very Peter Gabriel-esque vocals.
I could actually keep writing for like…. another hour but I will save you guys that and just end it here. Let’s just say I am a VERY auditory person

Interview with Gang of Four
We had the pleasure of interviewing JJ Sterry of Gang of Four over Zoom video!
The surviving members of Gang of Four, singer John Sterry, bassist Thomas McNeice and drummer Tobias Humble, joined with Andy Gill’s widow Catherine Mayer to celebrate Andy through music - and in raising funds for Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, the London hospital that tried so hard to save his life earlier this year.
“Forever Starts Now,” a brand new Gang of Four track written by Andy and John. Its original working title was “Hero,” a reference, John explains, to the lyrics about “a character who sees himself as the hero of his own life and manipulates his partner into supporting this fantasy. The line, 'She sings along with his song / she thinks it's like having the radio on...' always brings a wry smile.”
The EP takes its title ANTI HERO from the single and to reflect Andy’s lifelong mistrust of narratives around supposedly great men. “Andy always had a healthy scepticism about celebrity culture and populist politicians,” says Catherine. “And he could always spot when someone was blowing smoke.” She adds: “Even so, he would be moved and delighted that artists he loved and admired have come together to celebrate him by launching this EP and for such a good cause.”
The cover artwork is a variant of a full-scale portrait of Andy that Shepard Fairey created as a tribute after the Gang of Four founder’s death on February 1, 2020.
Shepard Fairey says: “Gang of Four has been a profound inspiration for me because the band demonstrates that great art can powerfully merge pleasure and intellectual provocation. I was devastated to hear of Andy Gill’s passing, but honoured to make a portrait of him in the hope of creating an iconic image of one of my heroes—with apologies to Andy, to me he was a hero—to serve as a reminder that though life may be fleeting, Andy’s potent art and ideas will endure.”
The second single, “Day Turns To Night,” was written by John Sterry just days after Andy’s death and will be the first single for his solo artist project, styled as JJ Sterry. “I had no intention of it being about him,” says John. “It just came out that way and also I didn’t intend for it to be released. I often cloak lyrics with ambiguity and this felt too raw. But listening now, I'm glad I wrote it with no thought of where it might go—it’s just a pure distillation of the years I'd spent with Andy and the band.”
Other tracks on the EP are vibrant new versions of Gang of Four’s “Change The Locks” and “Glass,” both of which feel apt for the times we live in. “Both tracks were completed at the time of Andy’s death; yet both have incredible resonances for these lockdown times,” says John. “His ability to write songs that remain relevant was unparalleled.”
Gang of Four’s longtime bassist Thomas McNeice worked with SantiArribas of the Mixing Factory, another of Andy’s firm friends and collaborators of many year’s standing, to produce and mix the EP. “It was strange, to say the least, to work on a Gang of Four EP without the wisdom and guidance of Andy, but it was nice to feel his presence and influence again,” Thomas says. “I like to think that this EP exhibits a progression in Gang of Four, while paying tribute to a unique talent that I was extraordinarily lucky to work with.”
Everyone who worked on the album provided their services for free. All net receipts received by Gang of Four from sales and streams of the forthcoming EP and associated singles will be donated to Guy’s and St Thomas’Charity. Music distributor Republic of Music have also waived their distribution fees for this project, to maximise the income generated for the Charity.

7 Momentous Kisses in History Becky Little 🥰 Feb 13, 2020
Despite what the song says, a kiss isn’t always just a kiss. A kiss can be political, whether because it’s the first of its kind or because it’s between two heads of state. A kiss can also become iconic when it’s captured on film, even if the kiss itself was invasive and unwanted.
With that in mind, here’s a list of some of the most memorable kisses in history.
First Recorded Kiss (circa 1500 B.C.)
A scene of the Mahabharata with Gopis, Daughters of the Cowherds, and Krishna.
Scholars debate whether kissing began as a trend that spread around the globe, or sprung up organically in different regions. Whatever the case, the earliest known written mentions of it are in Vedic Sanskrit scriptures circa 1500 B.C., according to research by Vaughn Bryant, an anthropology professor at Texas A&M University. These scriptures, known as the Vedas, were foundational to the religion of Hinduism.
After that, kissing continued to appear in ancient Indian and Hindu literature. The Mahabharata, a Sanskrit epic compiled by the 4th century A.D., has a line in which someone “set her mouth to my mouth and made a noise that produced pleasure in me.” The Kamasutra also has a chapter on kissing that identifies different methods of kissing and types of kisses.
Judas’ Kiss (circa 1st Century A.D.)
The Kiss of Judas.
Kissing isn’t just a romantic act. It can also be a sign of friendship or betrayal. In the Gospels of Matthew and Mark, written circa the 1st century, Judas betrays Jesus by identifying him with a kiss so that armed men can take him away and eventually kill him.
Judas’ kiss has since become a popular storytelling allusion. It may have inspired the “kiss of death” that appears in mafia literature and film (but was probably never an actual mafia practice). Perhaps the most famous example is in The Godfather Part II, when Al Pacino’s character gives his brother Fredo the kiss of death for betraying him.
First Kiss on Film (1896)
May Irwin and John C. Rice, stars of the short film, "May Irwin kiss," by Thomas Edison's studio.
The first people to smooch on film were May Irwin and John C. Rice, who appeared in a short film known variously as May Irwin kiss, Kiss or The Kiss. In 1896, the two performers went to Thomas Edison’s studio in New Jersey and reenacted their final kiss scene from a play they were putting on in New York City.
On stage, no one thought the kiss was that sensational. But many felt the close-up footage of them kissing was too risqué.
First Black Kiss on Film (1898)
In 1898, black performers Saint Suttle and Gertie Brown starred in a short film titled Something Good-Negro Kiss, the first film to show black Americans kissing. In 2017, film historians rediscovered the footage, which was filmed by a white man named William Selig in Chicago.
“There’s a performance there because they’re dancing with one another, but their kissing has an unmistakable sense of naturalness, pleasure and amusement as well,” Allyson Nadia Field, a professor of cinema and media studies at the University of Chicago who helped identify the film, said in a university press release. “It is really striking to me, as a historian who works on race and cinema, to think that this kind of artifact could have existed in 1898.”
V-J Day Kiss (1945)
An American sailor clutching a white-uniformed woman in a back-bending, passionate kiss in Times Square to celebrate the long awaited-victory over Japan.
On the morning of August 14, 1945, patients burst into Greta Zimmer’s Manhattan office claiming the war in Japan was over. The Austrian immigrant wasn’t sure what to think, so on her lunch break, she went to Times Square in her white dental assistant’s uniform to see what the news ticker said. The atmosphere there was celebratory, and the ticker confirmed that it was indeed V-J Day, and World War II was over.
As Zimmer looked away from the ticker, a Navy sailor named George Mendonsa—who’d started drinking early and mistook Zimmer for a nurse—ran up and aggressively kissed her, leaving his girlfriend behind. Zimmer struggled to push the stranger off, and they parted ways. But unbeknownst to both of them, photographers Alfred Eisenstaedt and Victor Jorgensen had each captured the moment, as recounted in The Kissing Sailor: The Mystery Behind the Photo that Ended World War II.
Eisenstaedt’s photo became one of the most iconic WWII images in U.S. history, in part because viewers mistook it for a picture of a Naval officer and nurse celebrating together. The photo has also stirred controversy, as many people have claimed over the years to be the couple in the image, while others point out that it depicts a nonconsensual moment.
Zimmer, herself, said in an interview with the Library of Congress in 2005, “It wasn’t my choice to be kissed...the guy just came over and kissed or grabbed!”
Star Trek Interracial Kiss (1968)
Nichelle Nichols as Uhura and William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk in the Star Trek episode "Plato's Stepchilden," which aired on November 22, 1968.
When William Shatner and Nichelle Nichols kissed on a 1968 episode of Star Trek, it was not technically the first interracial kiss on U.S. television. But it was the one that seemed to have the most cultural impact.
In the episode, titled “Plato’s Stepchildren,” Captain James Kirk and Officer Nyota Uhura encounter aliens who force them to kiss each other through telekinesis. In Nichols’ book Beyond Uhura: Star Trek and Other Memories, she recalls that NBC was worried how white Americans would react to the scene, so they asked the actors to film two scenes: one with a kiss and one without a kiss. However, Nichols and Shatner purposefully messed up all of the kissless takes in order to ensure that NBC aired the kissing scene.
Socialist Fraternal Kiss (1979)
Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and East German President Erich Honecker kiss on the occasion of GDR's 30th anniversary.
During the Cold War, leaders of communist states often greeted each other with what’s called the “socialist fraternal kiss.” This could be on the cheek or the mouth, but the most famous example is French photographer Régis Bossu’s 1979 picture of the Soviet Union’s Leonid Brezhnev and East Germany’s Erich Honecker kissing on the mouth.
The kiss occurred when Brezhnev visited East Berlin to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the German Democratic Republic (i.e., East Germany). When the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, the Soviet artist Dmitri Vrubel recreated the image in a mural on the wall’s east side. He captioned it: “My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love.”

Reggae singer Snow makes surprise comeback with Daddy Yankee
Reggae singer Snow makes surprise comeback with Daddy Yankee Reggae singer Snow makes surprise comeback with Daddy Yankee https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
TORONTO — When reggaeton superstar Daddy Yankee asks to sample your song, it’s a serious compliment, but Canadian reggae-rapper Snow admits he was cautious to lend his career-defining track “Informer” to another artist.
Before he gave the Puerto Rican singer permission to incorporate the hook of his 1992 megahit into the new single “Con Calma,” the Toronto-based performer insisted on a quality check.
“It was an honour this guy wanted to do the song over, but I was still thinking, ‘Let me hear how it sounds,”‘ he said in a recent interview.
“But when I heard it I thought — ‘Oh, this is fire.”‘
Snow, 49, ended up rapping a verse for “Con Calma,” and not long after its release the song was racing up the charts.
Currently it sits atop three of Billboard’s key Latin airplay charts and at No. 48 on the mainstream Billboard Hot 100.
The popularity has thrust “Informer” back into the spotlight with a new generation of listeners who weren’t even born when the Jamaican dancehall-inspired track spent seven weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s main chart 26 years ago.
Snow, born Darrin O’Brien, reflected with The Canadian Press on the staying power of “Informer” and how “Con Calma” resonates differently with listeners in the social media generation.
youtube
CP: You’ve had an unpredictable career that includes a period where you became a No. 1 pop singer on the Canadian charts with “Everybody Wants to Be Like You.” Since “Con Calma” is a collaboration of sorts, do you see this as a Daddy Yankee track or yours?
O’Brien: We both share it. What I loved is that he kept the melody of the chorus, but changed all the verses and made it his own flow. They took it somewhere I don’t.
CP: Now that “Informer” is back in the conversation, has its significance evolved for you?
O’Brien: Nah. It’s the same. Remember I wrote that song in jail when I got charged with two attempted murders (in 1989). It was a serious charge — a serious song. This is life — I’m going to jail for 10 or 15 years. It wasn’t looking good. And then it came out and changed my whole life. (Snow ended up spending a year in a Toronto detention centre, which he says it when he came up with the melody and chorus for “Informer.” He was eventually acquitted. “Informer” rose to popularity while he was in a corrections facility on a different assault charge.)
CP: It must be strange to know your incarceration song is a retro party anthem.
O’Brien: It wasn’t like that when I was in jail. It was like, “Please get me out.” But it’s fun to see people dancing to it.
CP: You managed to turn your life around, after being convicted in 1995 of assault and uttering death threats to two men in Toronto. You’ve said that’s why you decided to quit drinking about two years later. Did you go cold turkey?
O’Brien: Right there, that day. I didn’t have another one in a week. I haven’t had one at my wedding. St. Paddy’s Day, I haven’t had a sip. I just quit alcohol. And then I quit chicken, but I forgot about chicken wings, and I love chicken wings. So I had to go back to chicken. I was giving up everything. I gave up socks. I wasn’t wearing socks for like a month, and then this girl was like, “You’ve got such nice feet though.” And then I put socks back on. It was a little nutty.
youtube
CP: “Con Calma” strips out a lot of the context of “Informer” and makes it a straight-forward club song, while keeping the original structure. How does it feel to see a song inspired by your international hit back on the charts?
O’Brien: I don’t really look at that like, “Oh my god, I’m back on the charts,” but there’s new charts so I want new plaques. There’s a YouTube chart, a Spotify chart, an iTunes chart. I’ve never had these before. I love plaques more than anything else, because when I was a kid in grade 6 I always wanted the award of excellence, but I never got it. I was upset — until I started getting awards for music.
CP: Daddy Yankee’s version inspired a lot of people to post videos performing the elaborate choreography from the music video. Do you have a favourite clip you’ve seen of people dancing to the song?
O’Brien: There was one in an old age home. It’s incredible. I don’t like calling it an old age house, but I mean they were old, ya know? I think they were my fans. (laughs) We’ll maybe keep that on the down-low.
CP: Have you tried doing the dance yourself?
O’Brien: No, not me. I’m gettin’ my mom tonight. She’s got her outfit picked out and she’s going to send me video. She’s (in Lake Simcoe, Ont.) so I got my sister to record her. That’ll be fun to see.
CP: You’ve said there’s a remix of “Con Calma” in the works too. If you could pick any performer to make a guest appearance on that version who would you choose?
O’Brien: (Justin) Bieber. I’m a fan. I love his tone — and I’ve been saying this for years. I met his mom and told her: “I love your son’s tone.”
CP: With all this renewed attention do you plan to fire out some new music of your own?
O’Brien: I’ll do songs, same as I’ve always been doing… and have fun doing it. I was never one of those persons that released stuff and if it didn’t do well I’d get upset — “Oh hey guys, what am I gonna do with my life?” Bah. It don’t bother me. I have the same friends, the same wife. I’m not changing. They shouldn’t have opened the door again for Snow. Now they’re gonna be like, “Ah, here he comes. Nobody can match the style.”

MATT PLESS Smoking Hot on Re-Recorded 'Tumbleweed'
[embedplusvideo height=”253″ width=”450″ editlink=”http://bit.ly/2HDdS2d” standard=”http://www.youtube.com/v/9bvCbODRFtc?fs=1″ vars=”ytid=9bvCbODRFtc&width=450&height=253&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=0&autoplay=0&react=1&chapters=&notes=” id=”ep5284″ /]
Anyone who says that there aren’t any good new bands out there needs to spend more time looking online for indie artists, cause the truth of the matter is that most of the best new music isn’t the signed, radio overplayed, label releases. One excellent example is Folk Punk singer / songwriter MATT PLESS. If Gordon Gano instigated an orgy with Bob Dylan, PJ Harvey and John Prine while Nick Cave and Tom Waits watched, the offspring would be this Baltimore, MD solo artist.  His recently re-recorded LP, Tumbleweed, is best described as “an explosion of dynamic discordance, mixing driving, confrontational punk acoustic jams with gentle, canorous melodies.” Check out the opening track, “Ashtray,” and definitely get a hold of this album!
“’Ashtray’ came about because I smoked an ashtray-worth of cigarettes in the half hour that it took to write the song…I had been playing music full time for quite a while. I was tired of finding myself performing at shows that were as empty as my pockets and was frustrated at the state of my life, the world, and the indie art community. I had been listening to a lot of obscure music circulating in the punk scene and had stumbled across a song by another artist which included a lyric that said: “If I found God anywhere it would be by the tracks”. From there, inspiration threw me my own variation on the line that would open “Ashtray”: “Someone asked me if I found God, yes, I think we’ve met a couple times. But, I’m not sure if it was Him ’cause I can’t look Her in the eye” – Matt Pless

The Actress. The Singer. The Activist. Felicia Punzo
Felicia Punzo has always wanted to be a superstar.  The Philadelphia native has acted in numerous musicals including Annie, The Wizard of Oz, Bye Bye Birdie, and the Music Man.  She was also involved in three KIA TV commercials, and was cast as an extra in the 2009 motion picture are Standing Ovation.
In 2009, Punzo worked with Grammy award-winning producer Kam Houff.  She went on to release several tracks that year that included Sweet Dreams, Sweet 2 Me, Ready for the Weekend, and Wish It Would Rain.
In 2014, Felicia began working on a nationwide anti-bullying foundation. The program seeks to promote self esteem in kids by encouraging them to be who they want to be. She joins us for this installment of TAKE5:
(Scroll to the bottom for the audio version)
Nexus: Hey Felicia, this is Todd from Nexus Radio. Where are you at?
Felicia:  I’m good. Right now I’m home and my music-movies room where no one can hear us.
Nexus: Perfect because we’ve got a lot of secrets to dish out! All right, we’re just going to ask a bunch of random questions. Obviously [we] want to know about your latest project, and then we want to get into the fun stuff. So tell us a little bit about what you’ve been working on.
Felicia:  I worked on a song called About Us. I went out to L.A. and recorded it. It’s just a fun track; I’ve never done anything like it before. It was more “poppy,” than I’m used to.  I’m used to doing the more pop-dance music. But then I got some remixes for it, and I think one was [Dave Crusher] remix- I forget the guy’s name, but I really loved that remix- it connected with me.
It was my first time out in L.A. and it just ‘vibed’ with me really well and you know, I’m trying to get it out there as much as possible and I actually recorded another track called Thrill Ride, but it’s not finished yet.
I recorded it on my grandpa’s birthday and it’s funny because- OK it’s not really funny, but it was a very long week because my grand pop was put in the hospital and his birthday was on the 25th of July. So he was put in the hospital and we threw him a birthday party in the hospital that same night.
I went into the recording studio and I also have a full-time job, so I was exhausted but I banged out the song and I can’t wait to hear the finished product. So I’m just waiting on some new music and I’m always up to recording some more and trying to get myself out there as much as possible.
Nexus:  It sounded like you were very much influenced by that incident.
Felicia:  I said that to my dad because when I was recording it I said to my dad I was just utterly focused. I was like “wow it’s getting really late,” but I just banged it out and I kept saying to my dad ‘I feel this is like my favorite song, it’s just stuck in my head and I can’t wait till everyone gets to hear it.’
Nexus:  So when you’re on the Tonight Show and all that [you can tell them your story].
Felicia:   I was thinking that too, everyone keeps saying that you need a story, you need a story. And I’m just a normal girl from South Philly. I don’t really have a crazy story, but with that song, I feel like it’s such a great story.
Nexus: Saying that you’re from South Philly is also the story! The Roots (music band) are from there right?
Felicia:  Yes. I forget his name. He’s got puffy hair, the drummer. (Inaudible)
Nexus:  So with the Tonight Show, it would be like Philly love. You’ve got The Roots playing with Felicia Punzo.
Felicia:  Yeah, I think that’s great. That’d be awesome.
Nexus:  So we know Philly is known for the Philly Cheese-Steak sandwiches out there. So what would be your favorite place to eat out in Philly?
Felicia:  What would be one of my favorite spots to eat?
Okay. So I got two places to tell you. My Dad’s friend’s restaurant Chick’s. It’s a new restaurant and it’s one of my favorites, we go there all the time. It’s a pretty cool place.
So there’s also Chickie’s and Pete’s is a quick place to eat, they have the crab fries that are very well known. It’s also another, uh, you know, they’re friends of the family. Their place is somewhere we go very often also. I really like going out to eat and trying new things. My fiancé and I go to some of the higher-end restaurants, but if we’re just chilling, relaxing, and we want to get a quick plate it’s either Chicks or a Chickie’s and Pete’s.
Nexus:  I see a lot of chicks involved. If me, your father and your fiance, we’re all going out to Chicks, and you could have the opportunity to interview another musician and bring them along to dinner, what would you ask them?
Felicia:  It would be Demi Lovato. Her story is inspiring. I would ask her, you know, how to…., that’s really hard. That’s really hard. I’m really bad at asking questions.
Nexus:   Basically, you would just go with the flow and just ask who she is, why she is, and how she’s doing. Is she an example of an inspiration for you? What has inspired you to make music and go from juggling a day to day job and a singing career?
Felicia: I’ve been performing since I was three, four years old. My mom taught me how to Sing Whitney Houston at the age of five. So music is very involved in my family, my brothers are DJs. My Dad was a DJ for 35 years. I always wanted to do music; it’s kind of in my blood.
Both of my nephews also love music as well. It’s kind of funny because the youngest one is only one and he’s just obsessed with music. You know the Alexa thing? He yells at it because he wants the music to keep playing. It’s so funny.
Nexus:  Alexa, I think is underpaid.
Felicia: Yeah for real, everyone uses it in my house. I can make my dog, you know, when he’s in the house by itself, we say, ‘Alexa, play Meghan Trainor’ and the dog gets quiet.
Nexus:  That actually leads to my next question, what was the last song that you listened to?
Felicia:  I actually just came back from my Zumba class and I listened to the Cardi B song ‘Like It.’ (like that). That was the last song that we danced to.
Nexus:   Did it make you sweat?
Felicia:  Oh yeah, I haven’t even taken a shower yet. I literally walked through the door and my dad handed me the phone.
Nexus:   Oh, perfect timing…welcome to the music world! What would you say to your fans out there? You’ve been inspired by so many. How can you be an inspiration to others? What would you want to say out to your fans out there?
Felicia:  I would say, keep working on your craft. Just always believe in yourself, even when things are getting really tough and you want to give up. Just remember exactly why you’re doing what you’re doing. Never give up, never stop believing in yourself and always have faith that things will work out in your favor…and that comes from the heart.
Nexus:   Very well spoken. How can new fans follow you? What are your Social Media handles?
Felicia:  So I have my website, www.feliciapunzo.com. I’m always on my Instagram account, which is feliciapunzo, my twitter is @feliciapmusic but everything else is @feliciapunzo, but I’m mostly active on Instagram.
Nexus:   Do we get to see those photos of you in the Zoomba class?
Felicia:  I actually, I haven’t been able to take any yet. I was just able to start working out again. I was in a car accident a few years ago, and I finally cleared. I used to perform every weekend but because of my car accident, I had to stop performing constantly. But now I’m going to be able to start doing it again. I had to get my body back to know where it was because it was a pretty bad car accident, but I’m now starting to perform again. I have a full schedule.
Nexus:   There you go. There’s your story.
Felicia:  and I never think that I have one.
Nexus:  Nope, You surely do. What are we going to see for the rest of 2018? And do you have any plans already for 2019?
Felicia:  So pretty much for 2018, I’m just trying to get these songs out there. Trying to get them played on different radio stations station. Trying to work on my fitness and trying to be the best that I can be to my ability. I’m one of those people that I kind of lives in the moment and I try not to get my hopes up for anything but definitely live in the moment type of girl. I wish for the best and work hard, so pretty much that for the rest of 2018 and 2019. Plus plan a wedding, my wedding for 2020, Plus a full-time job.
Nexus:  Well it sounds like things are going really well for you. I’m really happy to hear it. Well, thank you for spending a couple minutes with me and I can sense that you definitely are going to need a shower now because now you went from a Zumba class to an interview with me and I make you sweat! Thank you so much and hopefully come out to Chicago. Guaranteed, I’m your best tour guide.
Felicia: Isn’t the Chicago the windiest city or something? Is that a lie?
Nexus:  Well, it’s not the lie. Long story short, it’s basically related to our politics because we had a lot of “hot air.” So that’s why they call it the windy city.
Felicia:  I understand now. I’m going to go back in the room right now and said, hey, let’s go to Chicago!
Nexus:  Yes. Call us up. Come to the studio. We got you. We got you. There’s a home here for you. Enjoy the rest of your evening. Thank you. And we’ll talk soon.

Faith Hill's 10 Best Songs: Critic's Picks 8/12/2017 by Chuck Dauphin
Kevin Winter/ACMA2013/Getty Images for ACM Faith Hill performs onstage during Tim McGraw's Superstar Summer Night presented by the Academy of Country Music at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on April 8, 2013 in Las Vegas. Faith Hill broke onto the country scene with her debut single in the fall of 1993, and it wasn’t long before America fell in love with the young talent. Soon, country radio was on board, playing one hit after the other. With each release, it seemed that Hill’s stature in the business grew. Her storybook marriage to Tim McGraw made headlines in the fall of 1996, causing the star of both artists to rise.
In 1998, Hill aimed for the crossover market for the first time with “This Kiss,” and the results were a hit that proved to be one of the most memorable of the year. That would have been the crowning moment for any artists’ career, but one year later, the seductive “Breathe” went even further up the charts, peaking at No. 2 on the Hot 100 and topping the Hot Country Songs chart. The singer has remained a fan favorite, teaming up with McGraw for another successful collaboration with the recent “Speak To A Girl.”
We took Hill’s solo hits -- it would be easy to include the McGraw duets -- and were reminded of just what an impressive performer she has been on her own over the years. Her catalog is a mixture of pop sheen and down-home charm that has always been a winning combination to her fans. Here are 10 Faith Hill songs that have stood the test of time.
10. Faith Hill - "Cry"
youtube
Fresh off the multi-platinum sales and cross-over chart success of "Breathe" and the singles from it, Hill stayed in that vein with this stellar showcase for her vocals. Interestingly enough, the song failed to hit the top 10 on the country charts, but continued her success at Adult Contemporary radio, netting a chart-topper -- as well as a Grammy. The 2002 single remains one of her most remarkable performances of any style.
9. Faith Hill - "Someone Else’s Dream"
youtube
Songwriters Trey Bruce and Craig Wiseman penned this early Faith Hill song about a woman who was growing restless about her life and living it the way that she wanted to -- and not the way that others thought she should live. You get the feeling that the lyric was one that she strongly identified with while growing up in the prophetically-named hometown of Star, Missississpi.
8. Faith Hill - "Piece of My Heart"
youtube
It took a great amount of courage on the part of Faith Hill to issue the cover of this rock and roll classic as her second Warner Brothers single in the winter of 1994. However, she wasn’t the first to cover the song made famous by Janis Joplin during her Big Brother and the Holding Company days in 1968. As iconic as Joplin’s version was, that one wasn’t the first. The song was actually recorded the first time by Erma Franklin the year before. Hill took the song and made it shine with a '90s country sound, introducing the title to a brand new audience.
7. Faith Hill - "Mississippi Girl"
youtube
Big & Rich’s John Rich co-wrote the song specifically for Hill, who cut the track for her Fireflies album in 2005. The song, about her not forgetting her small town roots, returned her to the top of the country charts for the first time in five years. The song made mention of Hill’s acting success in such films as The Stepford Wives.
6. Faith Hill - "Wild One"
youtube
The song that introduced Hill to audiences struck a chord with young women everywhere who wanted to live life on their own terms -- and break free from their parents’ tight clutches. But, even though the song wound up helping to make the singer a household name, she wasn’t the first to record the song written by Jaime Kyle, Will Rambeaux, and Pat Bunch. In fact, the original recording wasn’t even by a female vocalist. The song was originally cut by Zaca Creek, a band on Giant Records in 1992. One year later, the song found it's rightful home, becoming the first Faith Hill song to top the charts!
5. Faith Hill - "Let Me Let Go"
youtube
Though we didn’t include any collaborations with husband Tim McGraw on this list, as it would take away from her great solo work over the years, there are some other notable vocal partnerships in the Faith Hill catalog. She recorded “I’ve Got This Friend” with Restless Heart’s Larry Stewart on her first album, and no less than Country Music Hall of Fame member Vince Gill added his unique vocal touch to the harmonies on this 1998 chart-topper.
4. Faith Hill - "This Kiss"
youtube
Hill had won the heart of country audiences already, but this 1998 hit proved to be her first taste of success on the Hot 100, peaking at No. 7. The sentiment -- comparing the feeling a kiss gives you to a wide variety of dazzling heights -- definitely won fans over, making her a huge star in the United States and beyond. And, it’s hard to dislike a song that has the word "centrifugal" in it!
3. Faith Hill - "Breathe"
youtube
With her crossover appeal already in place, Hill cemented her place in country and pop music with a career-defining ballad performance that still smolders with a sizzling sensuality that still stirs emotions after almost 20 years. And, that doesn’t even take the scorching video clip for the song, which definitely inspired the masses -- of both genders!
2. Faith Hill - "The Secret of Life"
youtube
Chart or sales-wise, it might not rank as her biggest hit. But, one of the most unique performances of Hill’s career came as the result of this 1999 single about the wisdom of a bartender. She peppered the track with a wry sense of humor that came across when she told the story of a conversation about the mysteries of our existence. Songwriter Gretchen Peters -- who herself recorded the song first in 1996 -- definitely nodded with approval of this performance.
1. Faith Hill - "It Matters to Me"
youtube
The difference between Hill’s first and second albums were vast -- simply in terms of her delivery. She grew immensely as a vocalist by the time the title cut hit radio in the winter of 1995. The Faith Hill song had a little more polish and shine than any of her singles from Take Me As I Am, and fans noticed the difference. This song showed a vocalist that had just began to find her way as a song interpreter, and the rest would be HER story!

What’s the Best Music for Designing to?
Madonna once said that music makes the rebel and the bourgeoisie come together. I find it difficult to believe that either of these demographics would spend much time listening to pop from the year 2000, but who am I to argue with Madonna?
Now, for the young rebels out there, Madonna was our… ummm… Beyonce, maybe? I’m not good at these comparisons.
In any case, Madonna did not say that music is a huge part of the web design process, but she should have. Not on the front-end, thank God. Anyone who autoplays music on their site should be forced to browse with Netscape Navigator for a year, per infraction. But creatives of all kinds, the world over, use music to help them create. Whether they use it to lighten the mood during tedious tasks, to occupy the parts of their brain that aren’t busy, or take direct inspiration from it, music is there, helping synapses make connections.
We thought it would be fun to ask our community what music they listen to. To keep some semblance of organization, we’re going to do this with a series of polls. However, no one on this Earth has the time or resources it would take to make a comprehensive music genre survey, so this will understandably be limited. We’re also going to heavily favor the kinds of music that people typically use to help them concentrate.
Can’t find an option you like? Go blow up the comment section with your genre choices.
Lyrics or no lyrics?
Our first poll is going to be pretty all-encompassing. Simply put, do you like your work music to have words in it, or not? Some people simply can’t concentrate at all if the music has any lyrics, whereas others treat all music as a sort of extra-pleasant white noise.
The Classical Poll
Classical music is often treated as one genre by people who aren’t that into it. Dig past the surface, and you could say that every major composer developed their own genre. Some of them developed more than one, and nearly all of them experimented with what their friends came up with.
Ride of the Valkyries by Wagner is almost the quintessential “epic moment music”. Beethoven wrote massive epic symphonies, too (quite a few, in fact), but some of his most recognizable tunes are piano pieces for quieter moments, such as Fur Elise, and Moonlight Sonata. Many will recognize Tchaikovsky’s most famous work as the soundtrack to fairy tales and cartoons, while Debussy is known for his more sedate orchestral works.
So what’s your classical poison?
The Pop Poll
From cheesy, naïve love ballads, to the literal song-and-dance routines of boy bands, pop is designed to appeal to as many of us as possible. So… it’s no surprise that it does appeal to most of us. I mostly listen to metal and techno of various kinds, but even I can’t help but love some now-classic ’90s pop from my youth. However, I still don’t have a favorite Backstreet boy, and even if I do like some of their songs, I refuse to learn their names.
Going back further, we have Michael and Madonna, the indisputable king and queen of the genre (sorry Cher). Bringing it back to the present, Divas rule the scene, with Beyonce and Lady Gaga each having a fan base that would make some cult leaders green with envy. Look, I’m not saying either one is leading a cult, but if they did, they’d have so many people signing up.
So if you’re in the mood to have your ears soothed by the familiar while you make websites, which would you go for?
The Pre-rock Poll
Before Rock ‘n’ Roll, we had… well we had a lot. But the musical styles that were most popular right before the the introduction of rock include Jazz, Blues, Country, and Big Band. Heck, the Beatles made albums that were almost entirely Country. Beyond that, I have to admit that I am not particularly familiar with the subgenres here, nor any of the legendary musicians of these musical styles. This is largely why they got grouped together.
If you’re in the mood from something out of another time, or just something from the rural U.S., what’s your pick?
The Rock Poll
This is not the greatest music blog post in the world. This is just a tribute. To call yourself a lover of rock doesn’t really narrow it down, much. Rock has more subgenres than several other styles of music combined, and half of them are just metal subgenres. But, if you think of it in terms of your mood, it’s a little easier.
Wanna listen to something angry? Metal always has your back. Ditto grunge. Want something romantic and sappy? Soft rock probably has something for you. Want to hear the legends scream their way to greatness? Classic rock now technically includes everything from the ’90s on backwards, so there’s a lot there. Listening to something but you have no idea what to call it? It probably fits into “alternative rock”.
So what’s your mood?
The Electronica Poll
Ah, electronica. As a young whippersnapper in the ‘90s, we just called it “techno”, and we liked it that way! Oh, don’t hurt me Disco fans, you know I’m kidding. Mostly.
But yeah, we have Disco, and we have all the dance music that came post ‘90s. Then there’s more experimental instrumental stuff like Trance, which was brought to the mainstream, and my attention, by the late Robert Miles. Rest in peace. Then there’s Chillout, a decidedly slower, more sedate form of electronica, often instrumental, which is supposed to help you do what it says on the label.
The Hip-hop Poll
I’ll admit, hip-hop is a genre about which I could be much better educated, though I do rather like most of what I’ve been exposed to. The most popular genres seem to have sprung from the classic days of rap.
There’s Gangsta Rap, for when you need motivation to get your hustle on. There’s Conscious Rap for those who want to spend their day contemplating social issues, and wireframing. Then there’s Battle Rap, where people insult each other a lot. Hey, it can be funny. Lastly, I’m including Instrumental Hip-hop, which can be quite relaxing, actually.
So that’s everything I have space for, and then some. I am now expecting some actual music experts to go nuts in 3…2…1…
