Andreas Gursky at the Hayward

Earlier in the year, the Hayward Gallery was closed as it was going under refurbishment.  It re-opened with an exhibition of German photographer Andreas Gursky so I decided to go down and check it out.

Andreas Gursky is known for his huge shots of architecture and landscapes. 

Most of his photos are huge and incredibly impressive.  He often stitches a lot of separate shots into one large piece so that there doesn’t seem to be a focal point, everything is super clear

The newly refurbished gallery was spacious, airy and very monochrome; lots of whites and greys.

This was an aerial shot of the Dubai formula 1 track. 

This was part of a series of shots of light reflecting off water.

There were a number of pieces that had been photoshopped or added to.  This shot with Iron Man and Pepper Potts is a good example.

Not sure if it is just because I like Toys R Us but this was one of my favourite shots.

Another shot of the gallery.

More Formula 1 themed shots.  This was put together from a number of shots and was edited to add more people giving it a greater sense of crowdedness and business.

The upstairs gallery has loads of light coming in from the glass pyramids on the roof. 

I do like the Hayward Gallery and the refurbishment looks great!  The Gursky exhibition was a very impressive first exhibition after being closed for so long and I’ll be looking forward to going there again soon!
