Zackray Propaganda (MinorxAdult, Toxic Dynamic)

"Ray is a 13-year-old girl who wakes up in a weird building without memories. Oh, there are some weird killers in the building with her too. Zack is one of them and the first time they meet he runs after her with a scythe. Love at first sight <3 (/joke)

At first, her memories return and she remembers why she was in that building in the first place. With her memories back, she becomes apathetic and almost indifferent to everything.

After Zack saves her from a very creepy doctor, she turns to him and asks one thing: `Could you kill me?`. Zack is very confused, but after he realizes that he would never be able to leave the building alone, he offers her a deal. He would only kill her after she helped him leave the building. This is the beginning of their connection.

I can't give too many spoilers, but seriously, they are a duo that subverts all expectations. Although Zack is a cold serial killer and blah blah blah, Rachel can be more cursed and scarier than him. It's really funny that she spends the entire anime begging him to kill her, and his reaction every time is `Wtf is wrong with you`. And yes, Zack may be an adult, but Ray can be more rational than him and is very good at understanding things quickly. She is the one who always finds a way for them to escape the traps of the other killers in the building.

He spends the entire anime asking her to smile, because then he would be more excited about killing her, but every time she tries to smile, he laughs at her and says that her smile is lifeless (and it really is, my poor girl).

At one point in the anime she says that he is her god. It's serious. She even hugs a knife he gave to her very intimately.

He compares her to a doll a few times in the anime. It's so weird and cute <3

They're not canon, but I would argue that the romantic subtext is there. Anyway, they are weird, traumatized people who end up getting very attached to each other."

"The God of love in Rentarou's world has legitimately declared these are Rentarou's official soulmates. He is required to date all 100 of these girls. With the polycule growing strong, with this many girlfriends, you might think that Rentarou would run out of energy or time to care for all of them. He doesn't! He gets them to fall in love with not only him, but it's heavily implied also with each other!

When Shizuka - a mute girl - enters the picture, he spends entire days staying up all night to transcribe every word in the book she uses as a talking tool into a proper text to speech app, despite the book not having an App Reader version yet. He even downloaded the app he made to his own phone to show it was safe to her!

He's able to understand Nano's lack of emotions and need to do everything logically, but also able to see the subtleties in her mostly neutral expression and notice when she's enjoying herself. With Kusuri, he tries to both support her endeavour of making weird and new drugs, but ALSO to keep her safe. He does everything he can to keep these girls safe.

When Hakari's mom tried to prevent Hakari from dating Rentarou, he and his girlfriends staged a girlfriend rescue mission where they'd snatch her back and find her a new place where they could be together forever, no matter how much it would end up with Hahari trying to hunt them down... only for Rentarou to find a relationship with Hahari as well, after convincing her he was right for her daughter! Hahari fell in love with his genuine and sweet way of adoring each of these girls! If I talk about the rest of them this'll become far too long, so I'll leave it here! I adore Rentarou's family. The best depiction of a polyamorous group I've seen in any media, despite all it's wonks."

All I see on the subreddit constantly are people complaining about the panty shots and... I'm just so tired...

Its weird, its gross, its sexual harrassment, YEAH! THAT'S THE POINT! You're not playing "Deredere Simulator" you're playing Yandere Simulator where you play as a person who is willing to do bad things to get what they want

But even then! If you don't wanna take panty shots that's fine! There's two other ways to get info points and one more on the way! And it's totally possible to play the game without ever even talking to Info-chan, SHE MAKES THIS CLEAR IN THE FIRST TEXT EXCHANGE! If you wanna eliminate your rival in a way that doesn't hurt anyone thats fine! You don't have to get Osana expelled since it requires taking panty shots! But SOME OF US know what game we're playing and are interested in the darker side of the story. And I'm saying this as someone who will probably primarily use matchmaking, the most peaceful elimination method there is!

PLEASE. JUST LEAVE IT ALONE. IT'S FINE. IT'S BEEN THERE SINCE THE BEGINNING. IF THE MERE PRESENCE OF THAT SYSTEM BUGS YOU THAT MUCH YOU SHOULD PROBABLY PLAY A GAME THAT DOESN'T HAVE AN M RATING. those three things are writings some fics (three at once 🤧), stressing out over homework, and feeling crappy about my grades 😚✌🏼

obviously currently its been my hero and haikyuu, but the percy jackson series was and will always be my life! the last fandom would have to be the harry potter fandom, though im not as active as i used to be with it 😅

6. how has the pandemic been treating you?

this pandemic has actually been pretty good to me, other than the fact that i haven’t been able to see my irls. ive taken the time to work on hobbies and my self confidence, although im still working on that myself. if it wasnt for this pandemic, i probably wouldnt have this blog, so im thankful for that at least 😊

7. a song you can’t stop listening to right now?

ugh, there’s like ten currently 😗. my top three though would have to be “hello hello hello” by Remi Wolf, “Levitating” by Dua Lipa, and finally “Afterglow” by The Driver Era.

AHHHH!! if you like mystery, or even if you dont, Knifes Out is a really good one! im not one for mystery (kind of hate them 😀) but this one is just amazing. and it only gets better with rewatches!

currently 16, but my 17th birthday is coming up (oh my god im almost an adult 😐)

10. school, university, occupation, other?

high school baby 🤪, but i hate most of the classes im taking just because they are killing me <3

11. do you prefer heat or cold?

oh definitely the cold. at least with the cold, you could layer up and look cute. even with the least amount of layers, you’d still be hot 🧍🏻‍♀️

i used to do tae kwon do for like two months, but then i quit 🤸🏻‍♀️. the only move i remember is actually just the roundhouse kick :’)

haha yeah <3. im really shy when you first meet me, but once i get comfortable and get to know you better, then i am chaos incarnate. at least i think i am 😐

if we are talking about types i like, then most likely a bakadere (probably because i relate to them the most 🤧), but deredere is also a close second :P

definitely feel as if my life is a solid 8. ive obviously had my rough patches, but its overall been a really happy life and ive learned to enjoy it 😊

So imagine this...Yuuto seen all lot of shojo anime and read a bunch of manga with a female protagonist right? How would he react to his sweetheart having a harem? We have the childhood tsudere, the deredere big pupppy football player, the oujidere rich kid that always have a smug face, the kuudere bookworm with glasses, the bakadere neighbor that have a cute apron, and finally the small yandere shota YUUTO! Sweetheart: Cool! More friends! Yuuto: Shit! More rivals!

“Thinking about such a thing lowers my spirits you know...Also her having a harem would be well, unthinkable! How could so may guys fall in love with one girl? I find it to be kind of sad since only one guy would end up with the protagonist, but if the other guys only saw her as a friend then that would be better for everyone...”

“But I find other shoujo manga like Card Captor Sakura and Kamisama Kiss to be very endearing! To find someone you love and to work to take care of that significant other or to do your best for their sake... I can’t help but feel akin to the protagonist! Especially being able to interact daily or just being able to see their crush, it’s just like when I get to see her!

“Also please don’t call me a shota!” I’m 17 and the highest age for a shota is 13...! I’m going to be 18 this year so please don’t say I’m a child. E-Even if I do act like one sometimes, I’ll be an adult soon and I’ll make sure to become an independent person who can take care of my love!”

(Tsu’s note: For me I think it’s impossible for Yuuto to be a part of a harem because for one, I prefer when a story focuses on a one on one relationship. I think it’s nice to have rivals and foils, but a whole harem wouldn’t fit for yanderes imo. But used as a comedic gag or something similar can work. Also Yuuto here doesn’t bark and bite when he becomes a yandere. He’s just able to mainly bark back and maybe trying to use the advantage of being close to his darling. It’s in the title of his story “A laughable excuse of a yandere” he doesn’t follow the “I’ll kill anyone in my way or that hurts my love” yandere trope. He’s a wimp towards the lovesick world around him and having to bump heads with others for one girl would put so much stress on his heart that it can make him cry. Which is laughable is if you think about it, but he still tries to kindle his relationship so that his darling realizes his love and she can feel the same for him. He would do his best to show that he’s the one for her tho if something like a harem would happen. Hope this made sense lol)

Book Dumb

Many main characters in children's shows (and in adult's shows featuring children) are explicitly shown as doing very badly in school, despite showing themselves to be of at least average intelligence in most other areas of life. This isn't inconsistency on the part of the writers, though. The kid is just Book Dumb.

Making your child character Book Dumb is seen as a great way to appeal to the masses without having to show them being outsmarted by other characters on a regular basis. A Book Dumb character will usually show excellent "street smarts", is quite capable of thinking on their feet, and is often very good at problem solving most of the time, but he (and it is usually a boy) does not function well within a regimented learning system. Maybe he's just not good at that type of learning. Maybe he's clever, but can't resist an opportunity for mischief.

Farmer’s Daughter

A Farmer's Daughter is an innocent looking girl, typically from rural settings. In the United States this area tends to be in Midwestern America, the Deep South, or Sweet Home Alabama, but the archetype can be found in European stories as well. They typically dress in short sundresses or (gingham) halter tops and "Daisy Duke" shorts, and either wear cowboy boots or go barefoot. Sometimes an Unkempt Beauty, but She Cleans Up Nicely. They will often have a very pronounced Dixie accent and be very tomboyish and aggressive. They're typically pretty handy with tools and heavy machinery, among other things, having to repair tractors and such from childhood.

Tomboyish Ponytail

Basically using a ponytail to visually distinguish women and girls who are Tomboys, Ladettes, or otherwise don't act in a "proper" feminine manner.

This is Truth in Television for many tomboys in Real Life, due to being an easy to do style that gets your hair out of the way. In fiction, odds are that if a girl is wearing a ponytail (save for one paired with an elegant hairstyle), she's not going to act demure or feminine, at least not all the time. Bonus points if she wears overalls or is a Rebellious Princess.

Tsundere

The Japanese term tsundere refers to an outwardly violent character who "runs hot and cold", alternating between two distinct moods: tsuntsun (aloof or irritable) and deredere (lovestruck).

The tsuntsun can range from the cold "silent treatment" to the hotheaded "kindergartener who pushes you into the sandbox." The reasons behind a Tsundere's behavior vary widely, but usually boil down to the conflict between their feelings of affection towards a love interest, and their reaction to having those feelings.

Who Names Their Kid “Dude”?

You know those Unfortunate Names — Embarrassing First Names, Embarrassing Middle Names, Gender Blender Names, Tomboyish Names, names nobody can pronounce or spell, or that expose the bearer to ridicule by being punny — if not at home, then as soon as they venture abroad — and other things that drive people to seek refuge in deed polls or Last-Name Basis, or develop a Berserk Button? Let alone names that indicate exactly what the parents hope the child will become ("No, you may not skip your piano lesson, little Wolfgang Amadeus"), or give away their family background (class, parents' embarrassing choice of celebrity idols) in ways that expose them to all sorts of trouble when they venture into the wider world.

Suffice to say, somebody — usually but not invariably the parents — had to name them that way. They may have meant well. They may have done it out of family pride, or cluelessness, or not thinking about the unwanted Bilingual Bonus they're saddling the kid with. They may have named the kid after their favourite fictional character, or politician, or something even goofier. They may think having a bully magnet name will help the tyke build character. They may just hate kids. They may be rock stars, or hippies, or both, with child-naming habits to match.

My level of tsundere

Shori: It’s pretty high. You can see it well in the way I handle Marius (laughing). Regardless of gender, it’s embarrassing to fawn on somebody. So the way I tease Marius, I guess it’s not really different from the way I’d treat girls. Because I’d prefer a girl who loves herself (laughing). I’ll be kind in general but when I like you I will mainly tease you and be loving occasionally... That would be my style (laughing). But me teasing you is only proof of my mindfulness. „Even so, it looks like we can get along well“, if my partner thinks like that it’ll be fine. In romance or in work, a „fun atmosphere“ is very important!

Sou: In my normal life, my tsundere level towards girls is close to zero. „It’s the only person I can be tsundere towards to!“, I can only declare this to be true about Marius (laughing). Since Marius was a child before, I would call him „Mariussssss“ in front of everyone, I was amazed at my lovingly care. But recently Marius has totally grown up, right? It’s getting embarrassing to spoil him like that, so I try to put on a colder attitude on purpose. Then Marius starts whining and calling „Ne, ne, Sou-chan!“. When I see Marius behave like that, inside my heart I think „So far it’s going well“ (laughing).

Marius: I’m often told „Marius’s level of tsundere is strong“ by others. Since I sulk easily, it seems like that’s the reason why people think that (laughing). But I think that is a little different from the original „tsundere“ meaning. The people who often tease me though are Fuma-kun and Shori-kun! (In reply, Shori who is sitting behind him bumps Marius’ chair from behind on purpose) See, that’s what I mean! I have to sulk because he keeps doing things like that. (Now Shori gets up and stands right next to Marius to keep staring at his face intensely) ...Come on, I don’t know the meaning of this (laughing)! However him teasing me like that, it’s annoying but it still makes me happy. When he’s being kind to me, he’s really kind though... wait, what? Rather than talking about me, this turned into a talk about Shori-kun’s tsundere side (laughing)!

Kento: I guess towards girls I can be quite tsundere. But for people who are expecting „Kurosaki-kun~“, it won’t be to that extent (laughing). Since I think I want to tease the girl I like, I won’t always be sweet. Some people might say „I want to be swayed by my girlfriend“ but I’m the complete opposite. When it comes to love I want to be superior... I also have a fundamental desire like that.

Fuma: When it comes to girls, I’m not really lovey-dovey. You can expect me being tsuntsun but not dere (laughing). Of course, I won’t be fawning or crying... I don’t think I will do those things. If I did that, I think I would get beaten up by the girl’s father (laughing). However, when I let my guard down I think I will say things like „You look ugly today~“. I like people with that kind of gap. Even with our male and female staff members, I like people who can handle people like me. If I have a partner like that, I’ll be able to let the really harsh Fuma come out. If you return the opposite and be really lovingly towards me still, I think you’re genuine about me then.

My ideal level of tsundere in a girl

Shori: I think it’s cute when a girl is peevish but I’ll be troubled if she’s seriously angry at me. When I am at fault I will properly apologise in a gentlemanly way. When we fight because of something small where we can say „I don’t mind it“, then it’s okay to poke fun at each other. But people who are generally „tsun“, I can’t deal with that. As expected, I want her to be kind. Eh, which level of „dere“ do I want her to be? Well... that’s a secret (laughing). I’m too embarrassed to reveal such a thing so I’m not telling (laughing)!

Sou: Deep inside my heart I will be hurt by cold behaviour but I don’t necessarily dislike tsundere people. For example, people who don’t take action by themselves. When I say „Hey, well... I’m kind of hungry“, and the girl replies „Eh, you want me to make something?“ (laughing). Then I will say „Eh, you don’t want to?“, to which she will reply „...I guess it can’t be helped“, and finally take action. I’m attracted to that type of girl rather than someone who says „Aren’t you hungry? Shall I make you something?“ from the beginning. After that when we say goodbye, I will text her a message saying „I want to see you again“, to which she would say „That guy~ Even though I was this tsuntsun just a few moments ago~“, I think that would make me happy (laughing).

Marius: I think it’s cute when girls are angry. I think in that situation I would mess with her a little if she lets me. I don’t want her to get seriously angry at me though, it would make me happy if she can take a joke and pout a little. But next time when I say „Ahh, my shoulders are stiff from studying!“, I want her to say „Well, can’t be helped“ as she starts giving me a massage. „It feels really stiff“, she would say and I would reply „Really? Thank you. That was quite easy“. I feel okay with a mild tsundere like that.

Kento: I don’t really like it. When it comes to tsundere women, my mother is enough for me (laughing). She’s really scary. There’s a story when I was in middle school that I’ll never forget. While I was talking on the phone for a long time with a friend, she banged on my room’s door and yelled „Until when are you going to phone!“ with a loud, angry voice. „She’s shouting while I’m on the phone!?“, I thought that while being surprised. Well, I was on the phone for eight hours so I understand (laughing). Compared to me, she’s able to voice her opinions in a harsh way... that’s her way of a warm welcome. After that when I feel down, I might feel happy again if you can tell me something like „Hey, cheer up! I will hit you if you don’t!“

Fuma: Because I’m a tsundere type, I think I would be annoyed if my girl is like that as well and I’d say things like „Shut up~“ and „Eh, what the hell are you saying?“, so wouldn’t it feel like a normal fight (laughing)? When it comes to love, I think I want to be „the stronger one“. Ah, but when you say something like „Eh, today’s your birthday? I forgot!... Just kidding ♪~“, if you’re a cute tsundere like that, I might forgive you (laughing).

A good winter story♡

Shori: Winter itself is the best! I really like winter. First of all the air is refreshing and it’s not damp and humid. I could complain about humidity forever... I’m that type of person (laughing). The outside locations are surely cold but in that case I will take six heat packs with me before I go out! Also I’d wear a coat in this season, I can be fashionable as well. Food is delicious too. When it comes to winter food I like hot pot although it’s plain. The mizutaki I ate in Hakata was delicious. I am simple but rather than eating mizutaki in Tokyo, the collagen level there is amazing! Ah, is it already March? Then we’re one step closer to the damp and humid summer. Seriously, I’ll be depressed from now on (laughing).

Sou: It seems that during winter love will deepen. The city has pretty illuminations and there are many events going on. Since it’s cold you can warm yourselves together under a kotatsu, you can walk outside holding hands and you can share a scarf together, right? Marius: I like winter in Germany! Growing up in Heidelberg, I liked the amount of snow during winter, there are many stalls gathered by the square and the Christmas market is built there as well. „Is this real?“, I feel like that every time, it becomes a beautiful and romantic landscape. The stalls sell delicious waffles and German cakes and all the adults drink mulled wine. But I also like the New Year’s holidays in Japan. I really like osechi and other New Year’s dishes!

Kento: I like love stories set in winter. It’s the season to long for other people, so watching a love story is going to warm you up and you will feel satisfied afterwards, right? Eh, you can’t oppose your romantic orientation (laughing)? When that topic came up on „HonmadekkaTV“, (Akashiya) Sanma-san talked about it as well. That topic came up before already but recently it has become more open. As long as there is fun in love, won’t it be accompanied by troubles, worries and suffering too? But when I see happy couples in the city, I think „Wow~ I want to have a romance like that too!“, so that turns into suffering in a way (laughing). I wonder which suffering is better?

Fuma: When work is done I love getting home to take a bath and then eating ice cream after. During summer I like a refreshing popsicle but in winter I love eating ice cream. It’s cold outside but when I just get out of the bath I feel quite hot so I go to my freezer to see which ice cream flavours I keep there and I pick one that I’m in the mood for. By the way, I think today I’m in the mood for matcha. I want Sexy Zone to try doing a CM for ice ream. Although I say it myself, wouldn’t it suit us pretty well? But not a „bright and cheerful“ kind, I’d much rather do a CM with a mature atmosphere. Not only Nakajima but all of us should have some sweet lines (laughing)!

Something that’s not good for me

Shori: I guess music. I love it too much, I can’t go without it. There was a time when I gathered my music loving friends in a studio and we did a band session together but then before I noticed, it was already early morning... my words now, does it really sound like I’m a bandsman (laughing)? We talked about music, practised various techniques and only did a short break in the middle of the night to go to a shop to get something small to eat. Time flew by in the blink of an eye. I thought I have to make sure to get enough hours of sleep, however it just turned out to be such an enjoyable time for me. It’s okay to do that once in a while, right?

Sou: Floor heating. Even in midwinter I can walk on it barefoot while wrapped in a blanket, so I feel cosy super quickly. But that’s not good. Even if there is my bed right next to me and it’s the optimal thing to sleep on, I’m scared to get on my bed since I know it’s cold. Before I realise it, I’ve spent the whole night on my heated floor until the morning... I often had that happen to me. I really turned into a „hopeless case“, it’s terrible (laughing). I’m afraid of that, so recently I always hesitate for a moment before I switch on the floor heating (laughing).

Marius: Tangerines and gummies. I eat way too much of these! Originally, gummies are German sweets. That’s why when I have gummies at hand, I will eat the whole bag. When I was little my mum used to tell me „If you eat too many tangerines, your whole body will turn orange and you’ll become an orange human being“, so I was seriously scared (laughing).

Kento: Strong romance. Well, I talk a lot about romance today (laughing). I only think about work 100%, so I think it (thinking about romance) will disappear eventually. That’s why when I long for a strong romance, it’s a little scary. Recently I’ve been asked about romantic ideas on television and in magazines a lot so I start thinking about dispatching it properly. I need a relationship, please (laughing).

Fuma: When taking a bath, while I wash my body and my hair, I often leave the shower on... I guess it’s that thing. Because during this time it’s super cold in the bathroom. It’s only during the winter so forgive me! A few moments ago I told you “I eat ice cream after getting out of the bath” but sometimes I even eat it while I’m inside the bath. I set the bath’s temperature to 42°C, then the cold ice cream tastes even better! It’s really a luxurious time. During that time I will return home all happy... My behaviour is bad but still this has become a crucial time for me.

So I was checking out the TV Tropes character pages...

And Spike is labeled as a tsundere.

I know it is a site that can be edited by anyone, but I found that to be really odd and it just got me thinking. Outside of that one moment in No Place Like Home (”...and I never really liked you anyway and... and you have stupid hair.”), which is pretty similar in nature to the “I don’t like you anyway, stupid!” stereotypical dialogue of a tsundere character, that is the only time we see Spike really act tsundere.

Personally, I think Spike (specifically Soulless Spike, since William and Souled Spike are a whole other story) is yandere af, especially in Season 5 towards Buffy. But even in Season 6 too (” First he'll kill her, then I'll save her [...] No, I'll save her, then I'll kill her.”) This comes off less like “hot and then cold,” which is what a tsundere is, and more conflating love with extreme obsession and violence (murder) which is more in-line with a yandere.

(Putting the rest of this under a Read More because it gets rather long. The definition of the character types are under the Read More too).

Buffy, on the other hand, is a Type A tsundere (though possibly tsuntsun or tsunshun might be more exact/fitting) towards Spike and her relationship and feelings towards him in S6.

In S2-3 Buffy is a Type B tsundere towards Angel and her relationship with him (in S1 she comes off feeling more deredere), and in Seasons 4, 5, 6, and 7 she is kuudere. In Season 4 she tries to keep up a deredere persona, but by mid-Season 5 she can’t keep that up anymore. She also tries to do this for her friends and family big time in Season 6, and in Season 7 she starts off deredere (more naturally so than in the previous few seasons), but the circumstances of the season make her go back to her kuudere personality. Of course, this is simplifying both Buffy and Spike’s characters greatly, as all Character Types do. Like any good series, Buffy fleshes out characters to have many different layers and facets to them. But it is also just interesting to see how their characters correlate with Anime Character Types, since anime was such a huge part of my teen and young adult years. Even now it tends to influence how I view characters and situations (one of the reasons why S6 Spuffy fascinates me so much on a storytelling level is because you have a yandere and a tsundere getting together, which pretty much never happens, so it was different and fascinating to me). Definitions: Tsundere - A character that is “hot and then cold.” There are a few different types. Type B - The character is often very nice, loving, and sweet towards others and/or their love interest, but may be slightly harsh or violent at times. Type A - The character is often violent, mean, and cruel towards others and/or their love love interest, but may have moments of sweetness and kindness. Tsuntsun - The character is always violent, mean, and cruel towards the one they love, even after developing feelings for them. Tsunshun - The character is violent, mean, and cruel towards the one they love, but they do this as a front in order to protect themselves, and often times feel guilty or bad about their behavior afterwards.

Yandere - A character that has an obsessive love. Usually their love gets expressed through obsessive and possessive actions such as stalking, killing the one they love so one else can have them, or committing other violent acts and crimes in order to prove their love/out of jealousy and the need for possession of the person they love.

Kuudere - A character that has a hard time expressing their emotions. A kuudere character can be expressionless, but they don’t have to be. Usually they are just hardened on the outside, but tend to care deeply for those they love on the inside, they just can’t show it. A kuudere can be direct, cold, and cynical, but not necessarily as harsh, mean, or cruel as a tsundere.

Deredere - A character that is cheerful, kind, and happy towards people in general, and they tend to be lovey-dovey towards their love interests/significant others.

I’m supposed to be working but instead I made a shameless self-insert maid persona, oh well.

Idk if Littletale is taken yet so if not, she works for the main lil’ 6, if so she just works for LittleFell. Her name is Mocha, and she was hired by Gaster but she can never quite remember his name so she calls him Sir or Doctor. Her masters are:

Brick (Red): A biter. He knows not to swear and actually keeps a pretty clean mouth when no one else is around, but as soon as adults are present he curses just to get her in trouble. Also, she can’t spank him because he gets too eager about it and it makes her uncomfortable. He mostly bites when he’s angry or upset, but sometimes he just does it... just because?? Sometimes it’s a twisted form of affection? Sometimes he just wants to taste blood? He’s a freaky little shit and a shitty little freak. He likes watching horror movies because he likes to s u f f e r and also he knows Mocha will cuddle him.

Soot (Black): A tiny tyrant. If you laugh at him or his name, he WILL put thumbtacks in your food. Most kids just SAY they’re going to kill you. Soot doesn’t play around. He pushes adults around and acts terrible because he knows they don’t like him, and when someone is nice to him he doesn’t believe them. He torments Mocha because he has a hard time accepting that she genuinely cares. He’s trying to see how far he can push her before she turns to hating him, while secretly hoping that she never will. (Because he’s a tsundere like that.) He likes horror movies because they make him feel tough compared to the others, but he secretly wants to be cuddled and knows Mocha will instinctively reach out for her babies when the atmosphere starts getting tense. (She’s a protective Mama Hen, and needs to know they’re okay before she’ll calm down herself.) He can’t ask for cuddles, so he “allows” her to cuddle him since she’s “such a big baby and all.”

Navy (Sans): Sleepy and generally undemanding, but tricky to manage. You have to word things like you’re coding a computer, because he WILL find a loophole in everything you say. He’s also occasionally argumentative and sometimes lashes out and causes problems for similar reasons as Soot, and because he’s been taught to fear humans and feels like Mocha needs to be punished for the war. That’s not a conscious act, and he usually feels bad about it but his boyish pride forbids formal apologies. Doesn’t like most physical contact but he likes to fall asleep against her leg a lot. It’s not intimate enough to embarrass him but it’s a subtle sign that he cares and trusts her. He won’t do this if they’re upset with each other. He likes documentaries and cartoons.

Tan (Papyrus): He is just a bundle of energy and joy! An accidental biter. He means no harm but he’s clumsy, and he’ll go in for head-bumps, nuzzles and kisses but forget to stop chattering away and he’ll end up nipping her. Then he cries until she reassures him that she’s okay. (Honestly? She barely feels it at this point. She’s so used to Brick’s bites that Tan’s might as well be flea bites.) He likes cartoons, and is basically enraptured by almost anything you put in front of him. Like, he will literally get sucked in and forget everything else the moment you set him in front of the TV.

Apricot (Orange): Lying thief trash. No, ma’am. He has no idea why the cookie jar is empty and the honey is all gone. He also lacks a sense of privacy for others and will get into Mocha’s things without asking. Troublesome child. Likes to mess with Mocha’s head and try her patience a lot. He enjoys mysteries, and he tends to solve the plot of the movie and sometimes spoils it for everyone else by giving the ending away. He writes stories with plot twists that are inconsistent with themselves. He’ll watch horror movies, but he’s the one that makes running commentary with Navy and tries to solve who the killer is, etc. as a means of hiding how nervous he actually is.

Periwinkle (Blue): Actually secretly a koala. But seriously though... he is cuddly and talkative and becomes vindictive if he feels like he’s being ignored. (I.e, he gets jealous if Mocha pays more attention to the others than to him.) He HATES horror movies but loves to be cuddled and comforted and doesn’t like being teased by the others, so he tries to be strong. He really likes princess movies, because he wants to be a prince. The others tease him about this, too.

Mocha was fired once. It didn’t last long. With the main six, she got packed and then was rehired on the spot because the children had thrown a monster tantrum and the only way to stop the chaos was to bring her back. For LittleFell: She unwittingly avoided getting killed that day. She was told to pack to keep her occupied and unsuspicious, and to make disposing of her personal belongings easier. She was promptly rehired and came back to greet the Mother of All Messes. Brick and Soot were triumphant. She was... tired, mostly. She had to clean and arrange for repairs to the property, and Doctor didn’t help a bit. He rarely checks in anyway... Once, she asked him to wear a nametag, but it just said “Dr. “ and it gave her a headache, so they gave that up. Honestly, she’s more like a hostage nanny/maid than anything... the only way she’s EVER leaving is if she puts them down for a nap, slips out the back, and RUNS.

Ironically, because she’s a dorky intellectual and incredibly friendly and patient with the kids, she would actually have a crush on adult Red if they met. She’d just fight those feelings down into the pit of her soul because she knows better. Sans she might be more open to, but she’s too shy to say anything. Mostly, her entire life revolves around her charges and she doesn’t have time for much else. Also, it would be really weird to like them?? They’re the adult versions of her basically adopted sons?? She’s normally pretty soft-spoken but she DOES have a Mama Bear Mode, so beware. If she met the other maids, her protective nature would extend to them, too, because she’s the Mom Friend Tm and will protect ALL of them WITH HER LIFE. She will actually stand up for her charges ferociously, and sometimes Brick and Soot will purposely antagonize others into snapping at them or just straight-up frame them to watch her do this. In their messed up little edgy minds, this is the most brazen display of her love for them... her willingness to verbally tear someone to ribbons for upsetting them.

If she finds out about Savory’s episode in the attic or some of Red’s shenanigans, Master Sans and Master Red had better be ready to feel the hurt. Or at least get nagged really hard. And teleportation won’t save you, boys! She’ll chain you to staircase if she has to!! (Maaaaybe slightly sadomasochistic.) Constantly wearing bandaids, mostly because Brick will bite into the scabs if she doesn’t. In LittleFell she is covered in these. She is mostly deredere, with slight tsundere tendencies, and would rather teach the kids random fun facts about bugs and fish and parasites than math and history. Chunky because she stress eats. (Makes her a better cuddler!) She shares Navy’s selective dislike of touching. (She’ll allow certain people. And kids. That’s it.)

Nonviolent pacifist and physically weak, but if someone hurt her babies or was threatening them... if the only way to protect them was to kill a man... she’d kill him dead, make sure the kids are alright, then throw up.

In her mind, she calls them the “Chimney” “Beach” and “Summer” brothers.

English Release: Yen-Press has licensed this series in English as Banished from the Heroes’ Party, I Decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside. The first volume will be out in June.

Art Notes: Yasumo’s art was one of the reasons I wanted to read this series. I saw the cover of volume 3 and thought that it was gorgeous and their art definitely suits this series. There are two ecchi illustrations that I can recall. One of them is a coloured illustration of two women entering a sauna with towels covering them and another is of a naked woman bathing. I’m pretty sure that all of the characters in these illustrations are adults and there’s nothing that feels particularly voyeuristic about them.

This was a pretty good first volume. I liked the potion-making element and thought that it was handled well and the two leads have a cute relationship. Recommended if you want to read a romance taking place in a fantasy world.

Story:

Genre: Fantasy, M/F Romance, Potion-making/selling, RPG-like world (we don’t get full details of the characters’ stats but levels and skills exist in this world)

Gideon is the older brother of the hero and was a member of her party, until one day, one of the other party members convinced him that he was useless and he leaves the party. He decides to start a relaxing life in the country, making and selling potions and changes his name to Red. He runs into Rit, a former party member, and she decides to work for him.

The biggest issue with this series is the structure where the transitions can be awkward to the point that it gets a bit confusing and there’s some weird breaks in between scenes that don’t need to be there. I’d imagine that these breaks were left over from the web novel where the writer was publishing bit-by-bit but it doesn’t work in a full volume like this.

Otherwise, it was a pretty well-done first volume. I really liked how the gimmick of potion-making was handled and I especially liked how, when Red would do something other than potion-making, such as cooking, medicinal herbs were still relevant in those parts. The characters are likeable and their relationships are cute and I’m interested in where the story goes.

As for the romance factor, Red and Rit haven’t begun to date yet but they both have crushes on each other and it’s only a matter of time before they become an official couple. There isn’t a harem element in this series yet either and the two are cute together. I’m pretty sure that they’re both adults as well. Red and Rit’s ages aren’t mentioned on the official website and I can’t remember if the light novel mentioned their ages but they act more like adults than teenagers.

Character:

Red’s a nice person and I liked that his skills, cooking and potion-making, aren’t usual traits for male protagonists. Due to his upbringing, he’s unskilled at making business decisions which is where Rit comes in. Rit is a former tsundere but now she’s just deredere and she’s pretty cute. The two make a good pair and both are skilled fighters. As for the side characters, I’m interested in the Hero, Rutee, and her other companions, especially Yolandrala (yep, I sure do hope they introduce a nickname for her soon), a high elf who left the party soon after Red did. Rutee gives me yandere brocon vibes so I hope she doesn’t do anything annoying for the sake of getting her brother back.

Adaptation Notes:

The manga adaptation is illustrated by Masahiro Ikeno (artist of Goblin Slayer: Brand New Day) and is ongoing with 3 volumes released. It’s a pretty good adaptation that doesn’t skip or add anything and the art is nice. I’d recommend it if you can’t get a hold of the light novel.

Recommended for:

If you want to read a romance series in a fantasy setting, give this a go.

I wouldn’t mind reading another volume of this series in the future but it’s not something that I’m going to rush out and buy.
