Hello Eden (is it okay to call you that?)
Do you have any current favourite songs? What kind of music do you generally listen to?
And do you have any favourite books? What kind of books do you like to read?
If you are okay with sharing, no pressure.
Sending you love and strength ❤️
Ah!!! Thanks for this ask @sunnenfinster! What a lovely change of pace.
Eden is fine!!!!!
Ok, so I love music and books!
Of all broad genres of entertainment media, music is probably what I follow least closely. It’s not that I don’t like it; I just am always behind the curve in my tastes. I love listening to most confessional singer/songwriters. I love folk, rock, pop, and rap. I also get a lot of music I like from the background of media like TV, Movies, and podcasts. In general, I love confessional singer-songwriters from any genre.
Fave singers (and the albums I’d recommend from them: songs I’d recommend from that album [notes]):
Jem (Finally Woken: Come on Closer, Falling for You, Just a Ride). All songs on this album rock, to me.
Sheryl Crow (Sheryl Crow: A Change Would Do You Good, [about choosing love over anger and stopping gun violence], Redemption Day [about the Bosnian war], Maybe Angels [could be about aliens or being in a cult idk but it’s a good song about misplaced belief] I love every song on this album tbh. Wall-to-wall bangers.
Missy Elliot (Under Construction: Gossip Folks, Work it)
Suzanne Vega (99.9 F: 99.9 F, Blood Makes Noise, Rock in the Pocket, When Heroes Go Down)
Artists and songs I like in general: Aimee Mann (her voice is like butter and I could listen to her sing forever); Eliza Rickman: Pretty Little Head; Sims: Icarus; Dessa: Call Off Your Ghost; Sifu Hotman: Matches (I know no other songs by this artist but I LOVE this one so much. I’m gonna go listen to it right now); Lorde: Yellow Flicker Beat; Björk: Human Behavior; G Flip: Hyperfine, Gay 4 Me, Killing My Time; Aimee Mann: That’s Just What You Are [I love Aimee’s voice and could listen to her sing the phone book. All songs off her Magnolia Album are amazing too]
And gosh. So many more…
As for books!!!! OMG! I love books so much. I love so many different kinds of books. Some fave genres include: Classic Lit, Magical Realism, Sci-fi/Fantasy/Speculative Fiction; Engaging YA Series, Historical Fiction; Culinary History and Analysis; and Mythological Retellings
Classic Lit Faves:
“To The Lighthouse” by Virginia Woolf [This contains my fave quote in all of literature. This could also never be adequately adapted into a movie. It’s a fascinating look into how people think and how we all process internal thoughts. Must be comfortable with long sentences, semicolons, and allowing sentence clauses to wash over you like ocean waves in order to enjoy this book]
“Cider with Rosie” by Laurie Lee
“All Quiet on the Western Front” by Erich Maria Remarque
“The Portable Dorothy Parker” by Dorothy Parker
“The Odyssey” by Homer, translated by Emily Wilson
“The Iliad” by Homer — both Emily Wilson’s Translation and Stanley Lombardo’s Translation
Magical Realism
“The House of the Spirits” by Isabelle Allende
“Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter” by Mario Vargas Llosa
“Bless Me Última” by Rudolfo Anaya
“Like Water for Chocolate” by Laura Esquivel
SFF Faves:
“An Absolutely Remarkable Thing” and “A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor” by Hank Green
“The Martian” by Andy Weir
The Tiffany Aching line of the Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett (“The Wee Free Men,” “I Shall Wear Midnight,” “A Hat Full of Sky,” and “Wintersmith”)
“The Locked Tomb” Series by Tamsyn Muir (“Gideon the Ninth,” “Harrow the Ninth,” “Nona the Ninth” so far)
Engaging YA
“The Hunger Games” Trilogy by Suzanne Collins
“Grishaverse” Series by Leigh Bardugo
“Shadow and Bone Triogy” (related to the Grishaverse) by Leigh Bardugo [note: I didn’t know until making this list that Leigh Bardugo is an Israeli Jew! Very cool]
Historical Fiction:
“Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe” by Fannie Flagg [the associated cookbook is very good. Also, you’ll never eat ribs the same again]
“Tracks” by Louise Erdrich [one of the most interestingly written books I’ve ever read. Has two dueling narrators. This is part of a series of books but can be read as a standalone]
Culinary Analysis History
Bree Wilson’s books (“First Bite: How We Learn to Eat,” “Consider the Fork,” and “The Way We Eat Now,” specifically) are some of the best out there. [I didn’t realize until a couple weeks ago that Bee Wilson and the classicist translator Emily Wilson are sisters! They are both extremely smart, engaging writers.]
“Omnivore’s Dilemma” by Michael Pollan
“An Edible History of Humanity” by Tom Standage
“Food: A Cultural Culinary History” by Ken Albala (this one is a Great Courses course, so not technically a book. But it’s available most places you can get audiobooks. And it’s what got me fascinated with this subject)
Mythological Retellings
“Circe” and “The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller
“The Silence of the Girls” and “The Women of Troy” by Pat Barker [TW Rape]
“Norse Mythology” by Neil Gaiman
Genre Defy-ers
(These are some of my All Time Faves that can’t really be confined to any genre)
The “Outlander” Series by Diana Gabaldon [and the related “Lord John” Series by the same author] (TW: for Rape)
“The Anthropocene Reviewed” by John Green
Just Finished Reading
“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” by Truman Capote (Wow it was so good. I haven’t seen the movie in a while but I seriously doubt they adapted it faithfully. It was so surprising!!!)
Currently Reading
“Murder on the Orient Express” by Agatha Christie
Selections From My To Be Read List
“The City of Brass” by S.A. Chakraborty
“Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus
“The Source” by James Michener
“The Secret of Cooking” by Bee Wilson
“Equal Rites” by Terry Pratchett
“A Time Traveler’s Guide to Medieval England” by Ian Mortimer
“What You Are Looking For Is In The Library” by Michiko Aoyama
“The Doomsday Book” by Connie Willis
I also love to read cookbooks from various cultures to gain insight into those cultures in a very tactile way.
Sending you love and gratitude! 💜💜💜💜
I’m always down to discuss books!

can i get a fuckin uh......... spotify wrapped numbers 2, 17, 57, and 99? with a large side of character vibes? thank ya! ;)
2. The Rapture by Scene Queen! i always thought of this as a Razlo the Tri-Punisher from Trigun song for some reason. it's the angry vibes u see. but recently i've also thought of it as a q!Cellbit song??? again it's mostly the vibes, but i think of Cellbit in the hunger games/war/whatever it was that he was in as a child when i listen to it sometimes. have also thought about c!Wilbur from dsmp when listening to this. i have imagined many an animatic to this song
17. Pretty Little Head by Eliza Rickman is SOOOO Vash the Stampede. i have it on my vash playlist actually!! oh vash from trigun my beloved you are such a tragic little guy. he's so trans coded. he's depressed. he's suicidal. he's in a homoerotic relationship with a guy who is doomed by the narrative. he is everything to me <3
57. give a little by LeGrand! coincidentally ALSO a Vash song to me!! i have this one on my vash playlist too. it's definitely more Tristamp Vash than Trimax or 98 Vash but it's still vash. my beloved guy who is willing to give his life for people who don't even care about him <3 he needs to go to therapy
99. Projector by Set It Off is also kind of a q!Cellbit song to me?? the spitefulness.... the anger...... this is kind of him in his current arc i think. not all of the lyrics fit but it's about the vibes u see <3 this one is less of a character song and more a song that i listened to on loop because i liked the chorus, it scratched my brain in the perfect way that made me listen to it too many times to be considered normal <3

orange: songs about romantic love recs so so many but i think i’ll go for stray italian greyhound by vienna teng because it’s just awesome
blue: sad song recs my dearest friend and enemy by tamino; literally anything from cyrano but especially where i fall, madly and no cyrano; devil like me by akine; another love by tom odell (basic choice ik but it’s used in ever sad edit ever for a reason)
indigo: terrifying song recs i’m not sure about terrifying but i can definitely do vaguely and inexplicably menacing! pretty little head and black rose by eliza rickman; megalomaniac by aeseas; green jewels by krill; the wolf by siames; lady in the wall by danny knutelsky; it will come back by hozier; (ok these next ones are probably more terrifying than menacing i’ll admit) beneath the brine, you are the beginning, cold cold cold, baby you’ve got your legs all by the family crest (PLEASE LISTEN TO THEM THEY’RE AWESOME)

3. For kitty, Eleanor, Thomas, Isabelle, Francis and Mary from bbc ghosts
3. A song that reminds me of them
Kitty: “Pretty Little Head” by Eliza Rickman, the song has a childlike feel while also having a bit of a darker undertone within the lyrics
Eleanor: “String Quartet No. 8 in C minor” by Shostakovich, that song sounds like pure evil but it’s still really good lol
Thomas: “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers, No questions asked lol
Isabelle: “You Give Love A Bad Name” by Bon Jovi, I mean technically it’s not her fault but Thomas didn’t know that for a super long time so…
Francis: “Night on Bald Mountain” by Mussorgsky, I mean just listen to it, it’s so sinister lmao
Mary: “Gather Up” by Matt Berry, (yes, that Matt Berry) it’s just a song listing a bunch of herbs but it’s super catchy and I love it

9 people I'd like to know better!
Oh boy, I got put into a tag game! How fun!
Thank you @dead-peppermint for the tag!
And here is who I will be tagging (with no pressure to participate): @justgamer413 @paleneckauthorcowboy @gaywatermelonbread @printeriink @devilsadvocat
and I got no more people in mind so if you wanna join in, feel free!
Last song I listened to:
I usually listen to music a lot and thus I always have something playing on my headphones if I happen to be wearing them. Lol. Anyways, this song makes me go insane in like a rich aristocratic lady.
Currently Watching:
I don't really watch many shows in the first place but I have been trying to get into Unicorn: Warriors Eternal as a close friend recommended it to me!
Currently Reading:
There is only one book I have been reading (and will never finish at this rate) and it is Eliza and Her Monsters. I actually really enjoy the book so far but ex-gifted child reading burnout is an absolute pain in the back to get over. I pray that one day I can pull myself to finish the book.
Current Obsession:
Oh boy, where do I begin? Lately, I have been very into a game series called Fear and Hunger, and I should say;
THIS IS NOT A GAME SERIES FOR ANYONE UNDER 18 OR PEOPLE WHO ARE EASILY UPSETTED BY TRIGGERING TOPICS. I MEAN IT.
If you want to learn more, this is my only warning. Seriously, dead dove don't eat.
It is an incredible game series in my opinion but by god, I would never subject it onto anyone unless they are aware of what is in store for them. But I think a lot of the characters are intriguing in their own ways! No one is perfect and at worst, most are morally grey with some just being pure evil. It is also incredibly difficult if you don't know what you're doing but once you understand mechanics and utilize them, you can get through the game for the most part.

Gods, my memory is just a wild thing. I knew all the weather segments up through Episode 12 "The Candidate"'s "Of a Friday Night" by Anais Mitchell. (I remembered her voice more than the lyrics at the start, but the lyrics came as the song played.)
Then nothing until Episode 30 "Dana" and "The Lethal Temptress" by The Mendoza Line. Another gap until Eliza Rickman's "Pretty Little Head" on Episode 45 "A Story About Them".
And then it's Episode 80 "A New Sheriff in Town" with "She Knows" by John Fullbright before I recognise another song.
It makes sense that the largest gaps between remembered weather segments line up with the where there are more episodes I can't remember, especially given that some of the have been updated and songs have been replaced for varying reasons.
But it felt weird, because after a certain point I just stopped expecting to recognise any songs.
Also, I would have liked keeping the Sci-fi vibe theme and outro from Episode 79 "Lost in the Mail" and was disappointed when it went back to Theme 2 and its outro. (I have recently learnt they have proper titles, which in hindsight of course they do, but really didn't expect "The Ballad of Haydon and Prideaux" and "The Ballad of Magnus and Axel" for Theme 2 and its Outro respectively. Or "The Ballad of Fiedler and Mundt" for Theme 1. I doubt I'll be able to remember, though.)
"Lost In The Mail" is probably the episode that sticks with me best from today's listening. Oh, and Episode 82 "Skating Rink"! Started remembering that one as soon as the City Council came up. And I think I remember bits of future stuff involving five-headed dragons, so until I hit that, I'm still covering old ground. But I might be getting into new-to-me episodes next week for all I know.
I think I originally listened through at least Matryoshka, but I don't know. I just know that at some point, I'll look back and say "Oh, that episode [as yet unknown] was the last one with anything in it I can be sure I'd heard before."

WTNV Quick Rundown - 45 - A Story About Them
Instead of taking a break from these to do the novel when the time comes, I think I will just do these as well as parts of the novel together each weekend. It might take a while of going through the novel to collect something which can be posted anyway~
This is a story about them, says the man on the radio. And you are concerned, because this is not a story you were ever supposed to hear. Welcome to Night Vale.
This episode is told from the perspective of The Man who is Not Tall (MNT) and The Man who is Not Short (MNS) as they engage in whatever business it is that they do.
This includes: kidnapping a man as he leaves his house (but the man is not important we are told, don't worry about it) and taking him to a warehouse where they are also storing crates.
There, they are met by their supervisor, who is not happy. She explains to them that their job was simple - steal buildings from the city under the bowling alley, put them in crates and hide them in warehouses in the desert. They did not want the tiny city to declare war on the 'upper people' in the name of their god Huntocarr, even if the tiny people haven't really realised who it specifically was stealing their buildings.
Their supervisor says that somebody has to be blamed. MNT and MNS take the blindfolded man into the desert. There, the MNT kills the MNS with a knife. It is softly hinted before this that the MNS knew this would be happening. The blindfolded man then becomes the new MNS. This seems to be how things go and have been going with whatever job these two have since forever.
Halfway through, Cecil changes his story for a short while (he himself doesn't even know why, once more hinting that maybe Cecil has some kind of powers...I mean, how is he even seeing all of this in real time?).
The story is briefly about Dana, wandering the desert otherworld. Dana is travelling with the giant masked warriors. On the horizon they can see a Smiling God of terrible power and appetite. In this word, it appears as a vast light which devours all those within it, but Cecil tells us it does not always appear as a light though the effect of devouring is always the same. It is coming closer to them and they know that they will have to face it, everyone everywhere will have to face it.
Weather: "Pretty Little Head" by Eliza Rickman, elizarickman.com
In NV, there is at least one crossword to which all the answers are 'teeth'.
There is a place called Coyote Corners in NV which is a quiet development of old tract homes.
They also see the dark planet lit by no sun briefly in the sky.
There is an industrial area which was set aside by City Council to be such, and they always carry ribbons with them to open places.
Sunrises are sometimes loud in NV.
City Hall is now covered with a yellow trap stamped with an orange triangle, casually showing Strex's growing influence on NV.
This has been a story about them. The radio moves on. News. Traffic. Political opinions, and corrections to political opinions. But somewhere in the desert, there is one person who does not move on. This was also a story about him. Stay tuned next for as long as you can, until you cannot stay tuned anymore. Good night, Night Vale. Good night.
Proverb: Knock knock! Who's there? Orange. Orange who?
Orange you glad I didn't say your mother's in the hospital. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, is there anything I can do? Listen I'll drive you over there, we'll leave right now, grab a coat it's a little cold out, I'm so sorry.

Finally doing this on a long weekend (yeah!)
rules: tag 10 people you want to get to know better
relationship status: Engaged to @timmcosplay! He’s put up with me for something like eight years and that’s a bit baffling!
favorite color: Electric blue. I badly wanted to paint my bedroom that colour as a kid, but my dad made me tone it down. And, well, fair. But electric blue! The more eye searing the better.
song stuck in my head: Eliza Rickman - Pretty Little Head
last song i listened to: Werewolf Boyfriend - Little Seed
three favorite foods: Salmon! Perogies. Grilled cheese sandwiches my beloved.
last thing i googled: “Edmonton ITV”. Tim and I were discussing what he called “newscore”, meaning the music style that news channels started using in the mid-90’s, which led to us talking about A Channel and how when it appeared around 1995 it chose music that was just a bop for its news show and then, because I enjoy lists and giving myself pop quizzes, I started listing all the channels my family could get with our TV antenna in early 90’s rural Alberta and then I got stuck on “What was channel 13?? It had an “i” before it was re-branded as Global….” Hence: Googling. Then finding my answer and nostalging over the old logos.
Normal conversations, y’know.
dream trip: The older I get, the more I don’t think I have one. My travel anxiety is INTENSE. I like staying home and just looking at pictures, mostly. Trips are not my jam these days, except to go home to my parents’ farm, and even that’s hard. >>
anything i want right now: To completely redecorate our condo so that I actually love it instead of tolerate it. Saving up for that!
Also I want olives but I bought some yesterday so I’m satisfied.
tagging: Copping out and tagging whoever wants to do this! I am too Canadian to tag people specifically lest I annoy them and have to say sorry.

!!!! oh my god i love this fic and i love talking about it ty ty link
3: What’s your favorite line of narration?
The process isn’t supposed to be this slow, he’s pretty sure, supposed to be a fast, dramatic thing, not a drip drip drip in the dark.
or like. this one
Faulty sensors in a fucked up frame, maybe? Whatever the reason, he’d almost prefer it hurt. If it hurt he wouldn’t have the processor space to dwell on what the fuck he’s going to do when it’s done and the sparkling is shaking on the floor.
5: What part was hardest to write?
tbh the last line, the rest just flowed out and i didnt know how to end it
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
i think i listened mostly to like. mother mother and also pretty little head by eliza rickman,,, its a good fuckin song. but also i listened to a thunderstorm audio track on repeat

Tag Game
Thanks for tagging me @creepyspice and @captain-aralias, it’s nice to learn more about you beyond our shared Snowbaz obsession!
Three ships: Snowbaz is my number one by a long shot, but my brain has also been rotted this past year by Thyon/Ruza from Strange the Dreamer (I joined Laini Taylor’s Patreon just for the short story she wrote about them, which if you read the series and enjoyed them as a pairing, I recommend highly), and I had an insane book hangover from the most recent book in Samantha Shannon’s The Bone Season series featuring one of the slowest slow burns that’s ever been burned, Paige/Warden.
First ship: My very first true ship obsession was Lois Lane and Clark Kent (basic, I know), courtesy of the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman in which both Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher were extremely hot. I used to make my parents serve me dinner on Sunday evenings in their bedroom so I could record every episode on VHS without commercials…
Last movie: I just finished watching Encanto, which was lovely. I rarely get a chance to watch movies these days (because by the time I sit down to watch TV I can usually barely stay awake for one TV episode, let alone a feature-length film), but I’m dying to watch Power of the Dog.
Currently watching: Season 2 of Raised by Wolves, Ridley Scott’s excellent and super-creepy series featuring two androids raising human children on Kepler 22b. Also, The Righteous Gemstones.
Currently reading: I have been listening to the Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone (the latest in the Outlander series) audiobook since the beginning of December, but also just picked up The Folk of the Air trilogy. I just keep getting detained starting it by all of the excellent fic coming up daily.
Currently consuming: White chocolate crème brûlée bark. Very good.
Currently craving: Yeah, the answer is pretty well always chocolate but I also have some Rockets valentine’s candy (another Canadian classic) so I might get down with that.
Favourite colour: Teal is my beloved, just ask all my throw pillows. And my duvet cover. And my kitchen stools. And my other throw pillows.
Last song I listened to: Pretty Little Head by Eliza Rickman (from @whatevertheweather’s The Space In Between playlist, which is all around great and resulted in my adding several new things to my rotation).
Sweet, savoury or spicy: Sweet by a million miles. I have a renowned sweet tooth (see crème brûlée bark above)!
Currently working on: I’m still working away on the illustration I previewed yesterday, and also a few other illustration WIPs, and just putting my brain to work on ideas for CO Reverse Bang that would be inspiring enough for someone to want to write a fic.
Hi to @whatevertheweather (you’re already tagged on this anyway for your primo playlist) @fatalfangirl @you-remind-me-of-the-babe @technetiumai and @bookish-bogwitch – I would love to hear more about you all, if you’re so inclined!
