Back to the Swamp rundown!

So...

Disney Channel's YouTube account just released a new TOH chibi tiny tale.

And it's a crossover with Amphibia!

Here's my summarization of the events.

It begins with Luz meddling with the good 'ol portal door.

I'm not sure what she's expecting to accomplish, but Eda and King evidently found it interesting enough to watch. Eda even brought popcorn!

But whatever Luz did, it worked!

I have no idea when this is supposed to be occurring within the series timeline by the way. Luz is wearing season one outfit, has access to the portal door, which is also not destroyed.

So, season one, right?

But Eda has her post "Let the pain be shared" silver eye... And her season two dress for that matter!

Ah well, onwards to adventure! Eda is all for it!

King is a bit more... concerned, but comes along too.

Doesn't stop him from being mystified about the wildlife, though.

I guess Luz was trying to get back to The Human Realm?

Because she seems utterly shocked by the sudden realization that man-sized insects means that she can't possibly be on earth, lol.

But luckily for the denizens of the owl house, they've landed in Amphibia! By Wartwood! Right in front of the Plantar family home!

While Anne's friends Marcy and Sasha were visiting no less! What luck!

Anne and Luz formally reunite and introduce their respective families/friends to one another. It's very cute.

Sasha and Eda evidently decided that they just had to have an arm wrestling competition.

Sasha uses the powers gifted to her by the Calamity Box in order to win, lol.

But Eda gets the last laugh!

Then Marcy and King play a board game together.

Annnnnd she also uses her Calamity Box powers to win.

Girls, you do realize that's considered cheating, right?

Hooty also makes an appearance.

I guess he was wondering where everybody went?

Polly proceeds to use him as a jump-rope, lol.

I'm surprised that Hooty isn't more into this, but maybe he was genuinely worried about the people who live inside of him and didn't appreciate being used a kid's plaything after braving the unknown in his best effort to find them. Lol.

Meanwhile, Luz is showing off her sick glyph skills!

...Which I just realized, probably shouldn't work in Amphibia.

Ah well, we wouldn't have gotten this nice moment where she and Anne show off their magical powers to each other otherwise!

After all is said and done, our heroes settle down to have a meal.

I'm reasonably certain that they're eating bugs. Yum, protein.

Hop Pop and Eda are doubtlessly exchanging tips on parenting orphans and their other-dimensional friends, lol.

Throughout this whole adventure, the portal door has been... shrinking?

Because... the writers needed a reason for Luz and Co to have go back to The Demon Realm suddenly?

XD That's my best guess, as I don't recall there ever having been a time limit when it came to using the original portal door. It was kinda OP like that.

Anywho, Luz and Co need to leave immediately. Anne and Luz are quite sad to see one another go.

King really wants to make sure to say goodbye to everybody properly!

To the point he was a little too preoccupied to notice the portal door closing on him.

Also: Hop Pop faints because he thinks he just saw a little kid get decapitated, lol.

Meanwhile, back in the owl house, Luz is sad that she had to say goodbye to Anne. Eda comforts her, it's a sweet sight.

What isn't such a sweet sight is what King looks like minus his skull.

Although King himself is rather nonplussed about the whole thing.

Like mother, like son. Lol.

Luz is completely and totally horrified by the sight of King...

And that's the note that we end on!

Overall, cute little short.

And as a bonus...

Question involving the Amphibia episode "Hop Luck": Why does Hop Pop keep making a dish from that old family recipe book for the potluck if it always loses (and is considered the worst)? Is it stubborn old man pride of not wanting to try new things (or admit his dishes are bad)? I usually skip this episode, but now it's starting to get me to stop and think. Your thoughts/opinions?

It’s because Hop Pop was a stubborn old man who stuck to tradition more than anything. Considering that he and his grandkids r the last Plantars, one could see it as him trying to teach them Plantar traditions before he dies so they can carry on the family legacy. However it wouldn’t be till after that episode (and likely also the Thai/Frog fusion ep as it shows Anne knows how to cook) that Hop Pop starts to try new things and begins to make actually good meals, to the point Anne compliments him and his cooking in the Sashannarcy reunion dinner episode in S2.

I kinda theorize however that the recipe book Hop Pop is reading from is so old that parts of the recipes r damaged or faded so he’s likely missing steps but hasn’t thought about it due to his belief in tradition. Not to mention that he knows kids r picky eaters so his grandkids complaining didn’t register as legit.

Tho’ ya’d think at that point, Mayor Toadstool would’ve just banned the Plantar family from the potluck or at least had them bring utensils or whatever

I'm not supposed to be thinking about writing right now, but I'm REALLY thinking of an Amphibia Swap AU that I might just write whenever I finish the fic I'm currently postponing.

Anne = Marcy

Sasha = Anne

Marcy = Sasha

Marbles :D

Once Marcy arrives in Amphibia, she's fascinated by EVERYTHING around her. (She does NOT have a journal to document anything though)

After a bit of wandering, and trying to figure out where Anne and Sasha are—to no avail, Marcy decides to be a hard-core camper!

Marcy tries to survive on her own just to be attacked by a variety of beasts, fails to start a fire (or burn down a part of the forest, this may or may not lead to her meeting Wally instead), or just failing to do anything in general. SHE LOSES HER HOODIE AT SOMEPOINT, ITS IMPORTANT. TRUST.

Marcy wandered the forest, thirsty, hungry, and worried about her girls. She meets Sprig in the forest, who's there for very PRIVATE reasons, and she convinces him to bring him to civilization. (She asks him a BUNCH of questions about him and his species)

Sprig brings Marcy to his house and sneaks her into the basement because she needs dire help. Hop Pop finds about this eventually, but lets her stay due to her injuries, and swears that as soon as she's better she has to go.

Spoiler, Marcy does not go, and they do not want her to go.

After a smudge of fighting, Hop Pop lets Marcy go out.

Marcy, like Anne, tries to get the respect of the townsfolk, when the Plantars are trying to sell stuff, but instead meets Maddie. "Yeah, no, I'll be at the stand if you need me!" [Sprig]

Marcy is curious about Maddie being a witch and tries to befriend Maddie, and Maddie is equally as curious as Marcy is. Marcy gets Maddie to teach her about spells! OooOooh~ (will probably be called "Mixtures with Maddie")

Marcy and Maddie have a lot of whacky witch shenanigans, and Marcy spends as much time with the Plantars as she does with Maddie.

Anne, like Sasha, is captured and imprisoned by Grime. She, GENUINELY, befriends the toads of the tower, NO MANIPULATION, but Grime thinks she's manipulating them.

UNLIKE Sasha, Anne does not have a major hold over the toads like she does. She's just a soldier. She influences Grime's decisions occasionally because of her way with words that she learned from Sasha, but she's just a foot-soldier overall. As long as she isn't dead, she can live with that.

She's taught how to sword fight of course, goes to Toad parties on the occasion, but sometimes she isn't in the mood for it. OR she sneaks out when nobody's looking and tries to search for her friends to no luck.

Grime often puts her in her place, like Sasha would.

Anne and Grime figure out that Marcy's in Wartwood, and Anne suggests a party, like a real party, no tricks, no nothing, but Grime doesn't see it that way and comes up with the plan by himself.

Marcy and Anne do not fight, unless Grime forces them too, or he threatens to kill Hop Pop if they don't fight. He does something to get them to fight, that's it.

Anne does not like that Grime is threatening an innocent man, but when Grime explains that Hop Pop is a revolutionary, and that Anne's idea was a perfect way to kill him, it made sense. She still doesn't support it though.

When that whole fiasco ends, Anne leaves with Marcy and the Plantars while Grime just... idk, sulks, or goes on a journey of self-reflection and runs off and meets Sasha on a mission? (It's not fair that Anne and Marcy get their amphibian companions and Sasha doesn't) "Never liked him that much anyway." [Anne]

Anne and Sprig have a great bond. They have their whacky adventures, Maddie and Marcy have their thing, and all together they have their moments. And at some point they all embark on a journey to Newtopia! (Maddie agrees to stay, because she has to help her dad)

Sasha sees through all of Andrias' attempts to trick her and lie to her. She tries to keep her distance, but he won't stop talking about that box. She lies to him and tells him she hasn't seen it.

Yunan decides to personally train her because she sees potential. Sasha climbs the military ranks quickly, earning Lieutenant in like a month. She does most of the managing of the army because Yunan is a solo act.

She captures a lot of bad guys, and has a bunch of scars on her skin and armor to prove it. She fought a bunch of wild animals when she had to leave the castle (with clearance from Andrias).

Andrias might strike a deal, because Sasha is too smart for her own good. Andrias ensures her that her friends are safe on day one, but offers her a world of her own to rule as long as she gets the box. Sasha may accept or reject, idk.

Sasha does not trust Andrias AT ALL. So when Anne and Marcy arrive, she's glad, but somewhat informs them of her suspicions. Once she learns that they have the box and that they can go home, Sasha may or may not keep it hidden from Andrias who would find out from The Core, or Sasha informs Andrias of the box himself. (With the others there ofc)

Andrias does research and tells them about the box and it's stones, yada yada, nerd talk, blah blah. <- Sasha

Go home until Andrias gives them coordinates -> Fly to temple 1 -> temple 2 -> temple 3 -> return to Newtopia because Sasha wants a free world to rule

Sasha learns she's been duped, and tries to fight for the box, blah blah.

I have no more ideas, but tell me what you think. 🙃

Does Marcy in awiw ever overcome her stepford smiler tendency’s(ie hiding her true feeling and pretending to be happy all the time) it’s clear that she was like this pre-amphibia, and while she gets better in season 2, she still hides her massive guilt from Anne, leading to her lying to her.

So a thing to keep in mind is that for Marcy in this AU, she learned from a very young age that the worst thing she could be is a burden, which was a mentality she instinctually carried into her friendship with Anne and Sasha. That is some foundational learned behavior. It was part of what endeared her so much to Anne, who would look out for her without Marcy needing to ask. Then on the other end with Sasha who always valued Marcy's intelligence and relied on her made her feel valuable.

Yeah, she is getting better in aAA. With Sprig in chapter 1 she confides that she will probably be in a bad place for a bit. In Chapter 2 when they get captured she lets her emotions show with Polly, who reassures her that they were all there for each other. She shares the burden and stress of their fugitive lifestyle with Hop Pop, the two of them supporting each other. She makes herself vulnerable with Olivia to commiserate over their poor luck in love.

With Sasha she is letting her guard down and being honest with her is part of this whole arc. It started with chapter 7 where she believes whole heartedly Sasha is going to stop being her friend when she learns the truth and so what's the point in hiding anymore? She reverts back a bit in the following chapter, but now that Sasha has the scent and knows its going on; she presses Marcy when she does try to hide something. She handles it with varying degrees of success but the effort is appreciated by Marcy regardless

Anne's situation is complicated. Cause Anne and Marcy had a similar arc between chapters 14 to 18 in awiw where Anne was slowly got Marcy to open up to her and the two of them grew very close. Anne multiple times was like 'Hey, I care about you. You can open up to me and I'll understand'.

Then reunion happens and in that last scene together, Anne is suspicious of Marcy but she doesn't want to believe it. If Marcy had lied, Anne probably would have accepted it at least for the moment.

But Marcy doesn't want to lie anymore. She wants to trust and believe Anne meant what she said. So it all comes out. She tells her how she knew about the box. About why - about her parents! and it is too much and Anne bails when given the opportunity by Val as an easy way out. (Which I don't blame her for, for the record. It's a very human reaction to a betrayal of that magnitude. That said-)

it was 100% a confirmation of Marcy's worst fears. Not just her recent fears she's had since Toad Tower, the ones where if Anne/Sasha find out what she did to get them there they would hate Marcy. But of the foundational one, that if she's a burden then her friends would abandon her. That there was a limit to how much they would indulge her and beyond it they would resent her.

Honestly the fact that she did not immediately backslide into old habits is really meant to be a testament to the relationship she'd built with the Plantars and her trust in them.

okay I'm watching the Amphibia episode "Wax Museum" which is a semi-crossover with Gravity Falls, with Alex Hirsch voicing froggy versions of Stan Pines (don't know if his first name's actually Stan but his surname is Ponds) and Soos (his name is just Frog Soos) in a business called the Curiosity Hut (featuring multiple Bill Ciphers in the décor)

anyway Frog Stan (as I will call him) has created a number of exhibits by trapping creatures in shells of wax (as he intends to do to Anne) and Hop Pop, Sprig and Polly are setting them free by melting the wax. There's a group of fromes (frog gnomes) and as Polly frees them one by one they exclaim "Woohoo!" "Woohoo!" and then "Schmebulock!" (because of course there's a frog Schmebulock)

and the Disney+ subtitler, clearly in desperation, captioned "Schmebulock!" as "Wish me luck!"

#I find this relatively forgivable because Schmebulock is relatively obscure #but there are quite a few minor mishearing errors

Between seasons 2 and 3 which was your favorite?

And which overall Amphibia episode was your favorite?

I can't answer the first question bc out of all the Amphibia seasons I've probably watched season 2 the least since I mostly had it on the background while I was working on a project at the time. I am way overdue for a re-watch of it

my overall favorite Amphibia episode is REALLY hard to narrow down... I can't decide. I'm better off making tier list for each one hshajahhfjd. the thing is I enjoy different episodes for very different reasons. I like season 1 the most bc I like the mundane-ity of it, but it wouldn't be mundane without the serious or heavy topic episodes. I think the closest I'd have to a favorite one is generally the main gang being a family or helping each other out, to note; hop luck, truck stop polly, a day at aquarium, froggy little Xmas, etc.

Headcanons of Sprig, Polly, and Hop Pop?

Going off the hidden fact that the future we saw in Wartwood was several months later instead of the 10 years we saw with the Trio, so heres a few for each of the Plantars (sans Anne):

Sprig:

He helped to design the Anne statue in the town square thanks to the pics on Anne's phone.

Because Ivy and Maddie became better friends while Sprig was on Earth, he started hanging out with Maddie more often (altho' sometimes he feels like a 3rd-wheel when the three of them are hanging out together).

He continued to train with Grimes and together they freed the rest of the mind-controlled beasts within the Valley. Beatrice, Tritonio and Yunan are taking care of the rest of Amphibia.

Sprig is often the unfortunate test subject for most of Polly's inventions.

When Anne's phone rings because of a scheduled event that was in her calendar he thought it was her or someone calling at first but eventually gave up hope on that and figured out how to silence those alerts.

When they traveled to the new continent Sprig chronicled every thing he could and is on the look out for any magic item that might allow him to either travel or communicate with Earth (no luck so far).

Polly:

Continuing to study robotics by going to the robot factories outside of the Valley and by talking to Andrias. He wasn't willing to teach her anything at first but her determination and the love and care he saw her put into Frobo made him teach her with the belief that she'd use robots for more than death.

She continued to practice Muay Thai that she learned from Anne and supplemented it with martial arts taught to her by Felica who was training Ivy as well.

She turned the Fwagon into a mobile workshop and even tho' she developed a number of robots and inventions to help around the farm and Wartwood, so far they haven't been 100% reliable (either they explode, catch on fire or go on rampages) but she's determined to come up with something to help others.

She got a scholarship to New Newtopia University but had to put that on hold in order to travel to the new continent with her brother(s).

Hop Pop:

Not wanting things to be weird for Sprig and Ivy's relationship, he and Sylvia decided to co-habitat but not marry.

For the first time in Plantar history, his California avocados won the Plantar family the best dish in the Wartwood Potluck. After that every frog, toad and newt wanted a taste.

Hop Pop wrote plays based on the movies and series he and his grandkids watched on Earth. They became hits and he'll often travel to the Marsh-Pits Theater to direct his latest script.

Before rebuilding his home and clearing out New Wartwood he gathered up anything he could find that belonged to Anne and kept it in the family vault.

He's incredibly proud of Polly and her intellect but is hesitant with using her robotics around the farms except for Frobo.

He was very surprised that Bessie and Joe Sparrow had Snird babies but one look at those babies and he once again felt the love he had for Johnny Big-Bottom

That's what I got for our favorite farm frog family for now.

Well, plot for the next Chibiverse episode Bad Luck Chibis came and plot is: "Anne and Sprig are co-hosting Chibiverse with Cricket and Tilly". Looks like Big City Greens is still in focus for the next Chibiverse episode, but are you excited to see Anne and Sprig (plus maybe other Amphibia characters like Hop Pop, Polly, Sasha, and Marcy) speak and appear in animated form again for the first time since the series finale back in May?

Haven't really checked out the chibi stuff, but it's nice to know that some of the Amphibia characters are still appearing in new content now that the show is done.
