The workers at the BHX4 warehouse in Coventry walked out on Wednesday morning demanding to be paid £15 per hour.

Private security guards hired by Amazon were present in large numbers on the picket lines at both the walk-in and drive-in entrance. Stuart Richards, a senior organiser for GMB, said: “If you’re one of the workers who walked out in the middle of your shift, or if you’re a worker stood on the picket line surrounded by security guards, that’s a huge level of intimidation.”

Also present on the picket line were a number of police vans, as well as officers patrolling.

One worker, who chose to remain anonymous for fear of retribution, said: “Amazon customers should know the real story behind what’s happening in warehouses around the world. Amazon is trying to promote a fake image of associates being treated well. It’s not true. We’re treated as numbers under permanent stress. We can’t afford to get sick.”

There have been reports of timed toilet breaks and surveillance software that ruthlessly sets impossible performance rates. After the GMB revealed that ambulances had been called out to Amazon’s warehouses 1,000 times in five years, the online retailer cracked down, instructing workers to instead call a taxi or to drive the injured person to hospital.

I'll be reading a chapter a day, which will end on November 1st, and posting my recap as I go. I'm inviting anyone to join me, whether you've already read the book or want to discover it for the first time. How do you style yourself? Any tips about stores where you usually buy your outfits?!

I do have a lot of sporty clothes like leggings, tops, and jackets because I am most of my time at the gym hahaha literally. But I want to go on a cute date with my friends and wear something chic. Or even with myself, but I still feel that my clothes are most of them like sportswear ones. Or teenager ones like we used to see on Tumblr in 2015-2017.

I am actually in the process of elevating my personal style! (I will save that for another post).

I love leggings and share your sentiment haha I was on a huge sportswear binge for a few years. Now I only dress like that when I am intentionally going to work out. If I have to run errands I will throw on a maxi dress or a sundress instead. Actually takes a lot less effort, you instantly look put together, and really changes your mood/ how people treat you as well.

I own a lot of Skims basics as well (including their highly coveted maxi in every color) but I recently discovered a dupe on amazon! Will share in another post.

When picking out clothes, I know what materials and styles compliment my body shape and what my best features are. I choose clothing that accentuates them.

Top 5 Hobbies for a Kawaii Lifestyle

Ciao lovelies! Today here’s 5 “Kawaii Lifestyle” Hobbies!

Now before I begin, I want to say that these hobbies are NOT the only hobbies that can be included in a “Kawaii Lifestyle”! You could do anything for hobbies and still lead a kawaii life. These are just some hobbies that may be considered “Kawaii” traditionally/stereotypically.

So now, let’s get into this super cute hobby list!

#1- Toy Collecting! Many Kawaii Lifestylers that I know of, myself included, collect toys! Some collect vintage toys, some collect modern and some collect both! Toy collecting can be very fun for many reasons. For one, if you have a more childish nature/if you’re an age regressor, you can play with the toys! For two, your toy collection can make great kawaii décor! Toys come in all shapes and colors and sizes, so you can carefully select what you want to display! Some Kawaii toys to collect that I recommend: Num-Noms!

As well as: Calico Critters (also known as Sylvanian Families), Shopkins Lil Secrets (Which are a lot like old school Polly Pockets), Squishies, Molang figures, Monster High Minis….ect!

And going right along with toy collecting is…

#2- Toy Photography / Doll Photography! Another super fun and “kawaii” hobby is toy photography! Toys and dolls can be easier photo subjects (sometimes) than humans in my opinion because you can pose them exactly how you imagine, and you can take many shots while they hold the same pose! There are many highly poseable kawaii dolls like Monster High, Ever After High, Made-To-Move Barbie, and even BJD!

#3- Crafting/DIY! A big part of Kawaii subculture which isn’t really talked about enough in my opinion is the amount of crafty kawaii lifestylers! I’ve seen so many crafty kawaii lifestylers who make their own clothes, jewelry, accessories, décor… but yet I don’t see much discussion about it, and it can be hard to find good craft tutorials online for that specific niche! But crafty-ness is a big part of kawaii culture! I’ve even recently discovered a good place to get some kawaii stickers and beads for cute resin and jewelry projects, Blippo.com ! Blippo has many very kawaii items for pretty cheaply, just the other night I ordered a BUNCH of stuff for under $12 and free shipping, as well as a free mystery welcome gift! (my full review of Blippo is coming soonish, my orders are still in post). Another great place to find kawaii craft supplies is Aliexpress using search terms like “Kawaii Cabochon” and others like that. Just remember that Aliexpress is similar to Amazon/Ebay and you should always check the reviews before buying anything! (Note- this post was not sponsored by either of these sites, this is just my own opinion).

#4- Baking! Baking can be so much fun, and you don’t even need to make things from scratch to have a good time! Want to know a secret? Some of the best cakes I’ve ever made were with a modified box mix! One of my best tips is: “To make a boxed cake mix really amazing, follow the directions on the box EXCEPT: add 1 more egg than what it calls for, instead of using oil use melted butter (and double the amount), instead of water use milk!” This tip I found on Pinterest, and I’ve used it several times to make some of the best cakes and cupcakes I’ve ever made! ….So I bet you’re wondering how this hobby is particularly “kawaii”? Well, the decorating of course! Decorating cakes, cupcakes, cookies and more is one of the best parts of baking! You can make the baked good as kawaii as you want!

#5- Journaling! I know I mentioned this briefly in Wednesday’s post, but let’s talk quickly about how to make this kawaii. Again, you can use sites like Blippo.com to find cute stickers, washi tape, pens and pencils! You can also doodle in your journal and draw cute things like flowers, animals, and chibis! You can also press flowers in a journal for extra cute-ness.

Hey just wondering how do you make the tts fics what software do you use what format are they that sort of thing because I’m wanting to make some for myself as I sometimes find actually reading super difficult and have gotten through most the good podfics for the ships I like

I've answered this a couple times already (here), but my process has changed drastically in the last few months. For someone who isn't a software developer in real life I would recommend using Microsoft Edge or if you want actual files to output https://www.narakeet.com/ is a great simple paid option with lots of voices to choose from. For anyone who is curious and wants the extensive answer feel free to read below.

I'm going to start with saying there are probably better ways to do this, but it works fairly well for me so it's what I do.

I still use two programs to achieve my desired results. Program number 1 simply takes the html from AO3 and fixes common errors and pronunciation issues I've ran into throughout my recording. The major improvement here is that it now splits the fic apart by paragraph and by speaker. The entire paragraph and speaker concept is very generic and doesn't actually determine who is speaking each line. Below is a brief glimpse at what the file looks like

I then go through the file and choose who speaks each line and how many milliseconds I want between them. After that I configure my app to determine who speaks which voice. (I currently integrate with Amazon Polly, Microsoft Azure TTS, Google TTS, IBM Watson, and Narakeet.) My 2nd app loops through my configured file and outputs numeric files with the narrations in the desired voices. I am able to import those files into Audacity and combine them into one large file that I distribute to the masses (not really masses a handful of delightful fanfiction listeners).
