I've been putting this off for a while but since I finally have the motivation, here's some more of the head canons that I've told @p00pdev1l I would do when I have the time. Feel free to add more to this Jazz if you want.
With the reader's place being fully whimsy goth, the first time they go to their place Denji and Power would be staring in awe with how different the reader's place is and they've never seen anything like this before. It's not long before they want to go off and look at everything they own and I think Aki would be taken back a bit as well when he first sees their place.
The reader tries to stop Denji and Power causing too much trouble around their neighborhood and stealing stuff but every once in a while they will let them do it because it will be a neighbor that they don't like so they will let Denji and Power continue on whatever they're doing.
When they spend the night at the reader's place unexpectedly, the reader sets up an airmatress in their living room for the two of them. After a while, they decided to turn one of the extra rooms in their place for a room for Denji and Power whenever they decide to spend the night.
The reader definitely wasn't expected to end up getting into a co-raising situation with one of their co-workers (especially one they ended up making out with the night before their first day) when they first started working at Public Safety but it's not the weirdest situation they've been in. They don't mind it at all since they genuinely like Denji and Power and hanging out with them.
As for the reader's friends, I think they would be more of the crazy and wild type, definitely the type that would chug shots outside of an intense haunted house and sneak in more shots inside while waiting in line inside and trying to make sure security doesn't catch them. The reader still hangs out with them after work and there's many times they would go to underground raves and goth clubs the moment the reader is done with patrol for the night. With those days, the reader makes sure they don't tell Denji and Power (and Aki as well) where they're actually going mostly cause they know what can happen at those places and even though they know Denji and Power can handle themselves, they can't help but be a bit protective of them.
As for how they started working at Public Safety, they just wanted a chance and have the motto of trying anything once. Also they might have been a bit sold on being told that they would be a nice fit and nice breath of fresh air in the division.
Their first day was definitely something and while the other workers didn't ask them about the rumored escapades, they definitely asked Aki and joked that they didn't know he had a type and that they didn't know he was into goths.
With them helping Aki out with paperwork and getting to know each other better, I do think it isn't long before he starts walking the reader home after work (especially if it's late at night when they get out of work).
I also think the two of them will continue with sharing music recs with each other after the first selection of albums the reader suggested. After the second or third suggestion, I think that's when Aki will start suggesting things for the reader to check out.
I think the reader knows that he's interested in them but the reader can wait until he's finally comfortable to tell them but for now is enjoying getting to know Aki and discovering all the different sides of him.

It’s bold of Nolan to make such a thoroughly dense blockbuster. He assumes people will actually want to see ~Lelki ismeretek more than once so they can understand it properly, which some may not. This movie makes the chronology of Inception look as simplistic as tic-tac-toe. Ergo, it’s hard for me to give an accurate rating, without having seen it twice, as I’m still trying to figure out whether everything does indeed make sense. If it does, this movie is easily a 9 or 10. If it doesn’t, it’s a 6. It’s further not helped by the fact that the dialogue in the first 15 minutes of the movie is painfully hard to understand / hear. Either they were behind masks; they were practically mumbling; the sound effects were too loud; or all of the above. The exposition scenes are also waayyy too brief for something this complex — a problem also shared with Interstellar actually. (Interstellar had this minimalist exposition problem explaining Blight, where if you weren’t careful, you’d miss this one sentence / scene in the entire movie explaining that Blight was a viral bacteria: “Earth’s atmosphere is 80% nitrogen, we don’t even breathe nitrogen. Blight does, and as it thrives, our air gets less and less oxygen”). I guess it’s a Nolan quirk. Hopefully, a revision of the film audio sorts the sound mixing out. I do like the soundtrack, but it’s too loud initially. I liked all the actors. You think John Washington can’t act at first, but he can, and he grows on you as the film progresses. And Pattinson is his usual charming self. Elizabeth is a surprise treat. And so on. Its worth a watch either way. See it with subtitles if you can. And definitely don’t expect to fully understand whats going on the first time around. Its one hell of a complicated film. It will be very hard for an average viewer to gather all the information provided by this movie at the first watch. But the more you watch it, more hidden elements will come to light. And when you are able to put these hidden elements together. You will realize that this movie is just a “masterpiece” which takes the legacy of Christopher Nolan Forward If I talk about acting, Then I have to say that Robert Pattinson has really proved himself as a very good actor in these recent years. And I am sure his acting skills will increase with time. His performance is charming and very smooth. Whenever he is on the camera, he steals the focus John David Washington is also fantastic in this movie. His performance is electrifying, I hope to see more from him in the future. Other characters such as Kenneth Branagh, Elizabeth, Himesh Patel, Dimple Kapadia, Clémence Poésy have also done quite well. And I dont think there is a need to talk about Michael Caine Talking about Music, its awesome. I dont think you will miss Hans Zimmer’s score. Ludwig has done a sufficient job. There is no lack of good score in the movie Gotta love the editing and post production which has been put into this movie. I think its fair to say this Nolan film has focused more in its post production. The main problem in the movie is the sound mixing. Plot is already complex and some dialogues are very soft due to the high music score. It makes it harder to realize what is going on in the movie. Other Nolan movies had loud BGM too. But Audio and dialogues weren’t a problem My humble request to everyone is to please let the movie sink in your thoughts. Let your mind grasp all the elements of this movie. I am sure more people will find it better. Even those who think they got the plot. I can bet they are wrong. ~Lelki ismeretek is the long awaited new movie from Christopher Nolan. The movie that’s set to reboot the multiplexes post-Covid. It’s a manic, extremely loud, extremely baffling sci-fi cum spy rollercoaster that will please a lot of Nolan fan-boys but which left me with very mixed views. John David Washington (Denzel’s lad) plays “The Protagonist” — a crack-CIA field operative who is an unstoppable one-man army in the style of Hobbs or Shaw. Recruited into an even more shadowy organisation, he’s on the trail of an international arms dealer, Andrei Sator (Kenneth Branagh in full villain mode). Sator is bullying his estranged wife Kat (Elizabeth Debicki) over custody of their son (and the film unusually has a BBFC warning about “Domestic Abuse”). Our hero jets the world to try to prevent a very particular kind of Armageddon while also keeping the vulnerable and attractive Kat alive. This is cinema at its biggest and boldest. Nolan has taken a cinema ‘splurge’ gun, filled it with money, set it on rapid fire, removed the safety and let rip at the screen. Given that Nolan is famous for doing all of his ‘effects’ for real and ‘in camera’, some of what you see performed is almost unbelievable. You thought crashing a train through rush-hour traffic in “Inception” was crazy? You ain’t seen nothing yet with the airport scene! And for lovers of Chinooks (I must admit I am one and rush out of the house to see one if I hear it coming!) there is positively Chinook-p*rn on offer in the film’s ridiculously huge finale. The ‘inversion’ aspects of the story also lends itself to some fight scenes — one in particular in an airport ‘freeport’ — which are both bizarre to watch and, I imagine, technically extremely challenging to pull off. In this regard John David Washington is an acrobatic and talented stunt performer in his own right, and must have trained for months for this role. Nolan’s crew also certainly racked up their air miles pre-lockdown, since the locations range far and wide across the world. The locations encompassed Denmark, Estonia, India, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom, and United States. Hoyte Van Hoytema’s cinematography is lush in introducing these, especially the beautiful Italian coast scenes. Although I did miss the David Arnold strings that would typically introduce these in a Bond movie: it felt like that was missing. The ‘timey-wimey’ aspects of the plot are also intriguing and very cleverly done. There are numerous points at which you think “Oh, that’s a sloppy continuity error” or “Shame the production design team missed that cracked wing mirror”. Then later in the movie, you get at least a dozen “Aha!” moments. Some of them (no spoilers) are jaw-droppingly spectacular. Perhaps the best twist is hidden in the final line of the movie. I only processed it on the way home. And so to the first of my significant gripes with ~Lelki ismeretek. The sound mix in the movie is all over the place. I’d go stronger than that… it’s truly awful (expletive deleted)! Nolan often implements Shakespeare’s trick of having characters in the play provide exposition of the plot to aid comprehension. But unfortunately, all of this exposition dialogue was largely incomprehensible. This was due to: the ear-splitting volume of the sound: 2020 movie audiences are going to be suffering from ‘~Lelki ismeretekis’! (LOL); the dialogue is poorly mixed with the thumping music by Ludwig Göransson (Wot? No Hans Zimmer?); a large proportion of the dialogue was through masks of varying description (#covid-appropriate). Aaron Taylor-Johnson was particularly unintelligible to my ears. Overall, watching this with subtitles at a special showing might be advisable! OK, so I only have a PhD in Physics… but at times I was completely lost as to the intricacies of the plot. It made “Inception” look like “The Tiger Who Came to Tea”. There was an obvious ‘McGuffin’ in “Inception” — — (“These ‘dream levels’… how exactly are they architected??”…. “Don’t worry… they’ll never notice”. And we didn’t!) In “~Lelki ismeretek” there are McGuffins nested in McGuffins. So much of this is casually waved away as “future stuff… you’re not qualified” that it feels vaguely condescending to the audience. At one point Sator says to Kat “You don’t know what’s going on, do you?” and she shakes her head blankly. We’re right with you there luv! There are also gaps in the storyline that jar. The word “~Lelki ismeretek”? What does it mean. Is it just a password? I’m none the wiser. The manic pace of ~Lelki ismeretek and the constant din means that the movie gallops along like a series of disconnected (albeit brilliant) action set pieces. For me, it has none of the emotional heart of the Cobb’s marriage problems from “Inception” or the father/daughter separation of “Interstellar”. In fact, you barely care for anyone in the movie, perhaps with the exception of Kat. It’s a talented cast. As mentioned above, John David Washington is muscular and athletic in the role. It’s a big load for the actor to carry in such a tent-pole movie, given his only significant starring role before was in the excellent BlacKkKlansman. But he carries it off well. A worthy successor to Gerard Butler and Jason Statham for action roles in the next 10 years. This is also a great performance by Robert Pattinson, in his most high-profile film in a long time, playing the vaguely alcoholic and Carré-esque support guy. Pattinson’s Potter co-star Clemence Poésy also pops up — rather more un-glam that usual — as the scientist plot-expositor early in the movie. Nolan’s regular Michael Caine also pops up. although the 87-year old legend is starting to show his age: His speech was obviously affected at the time of filming (though nice try Mr Nolan in trying to disguise that with a mouth full of food!). But in my book, any amount of Caine in a movie is a plus. He also gets to deliver the best killer line in the film about snobbery! However, it’s Kenneth Branagh and Elizabeth Debicki that really stand out. They were both fabulous, especially when they were bouncing off each other in their marital battle royale. So, given this was my most anticipated movie of the year, it’s a bit of a curate’s egg for me. A mixture of being awe-struck at times and slightly disappointed at others. It’s a movie which needs a second watch, so I’m heading back today to give my ear drums another bashing! And this is one where I reserve the right to revisit my rating after that second watch… it’s not likely to go down… but it might go up. (For the full graphical review, check out One Mann’s Movies on t’interweb and Facebook. Thanks.) As this will be non-spoiler, I can’t say too much about the story. However, what I can is this: ~Lelki ismeretek’s story is quite dynamic in the sense that you won’t understand it till it wants you to. So, for the first half, your brain is fighting for hints and pieces to puzzle together the story. It isn’t until halfway through the movie that ~Lelki ismeretek invites you to the fantastic storytelling by Christopher Nolan. Acting is beyond phenomenal, and I’d be genuinely surprised if neither Robert Pattinson nor John David Washington doesn’t receive an Oscar nomination for best actor. It’s also hard not to mention how good Elizabeth Debicki and Aaron Johnson both are. All around, great acting, and the dialogue amps up the quality of the movie. The idea of this movie is damn fascinating, and while there are films that explore time-travelling, there’s never been anything quite like this. It has such a beautiful charm and for the most part, explains everything thoroughly. It feels so much more complex than any form of time-travelling we’ve seen, and no less could’ve been expected from Nolan. Oh my lord, the score for this film fits so perfectly. Every scene that’s meant to feel intense was amped by a hundred because of how good the score was. Let me just say though, none of them will be found iconic, but they fit the story and scenes so well. In the end, I walked out, feeling very satisfied. Nevertheless, I do have issues with the film that I cannot really express without spoiling bits of the story. There are definitely little inconsistencies that I found myself uncovering as the story progressed. However, I only had one issue that I found impacted my enjoyment. That issue was understanding some of the dialogue. No, not in the sense that the movie is too complicated, but more that it was hard to make out was being said at times. It felt like the movie required subtitles, but that probably was because, at a time in the film, there was far too much exposition. Nevertheless, I loved this film, I’ll be watching it at least two more times, and I think most of you in this group will enjoy it. I definitely suggest watching it in theatres if possible, just so you can get that excitement. (4/5) & (8.5/10) for those that care about number scores. At first, I want to ask Christopher Nolan one question, HOW THE HELL YOU DID THIS? Seriously I want to have an answer, How did he write such as this masterpiece! How did he get this complicated, fabulous and creative idea? What is going on in his mind? The story is written and directed perfectly, the narration style was absolutely unique. I have no idea how can anyone direct such as this story, that was a huge challenge, and as usual Nolan gave us a masterpiece that we’ll put beside (Memento), (Inception) and (Interstellar) The movie is so fast-paced in a good way, there was no boring moment. The chemistry between John David Washington and Robert Pattinson was great and funny and both of their performance was really good. Elizabeth Debicki performance was the best in the movie because she had the chance to show her acting abilities and she cached up that chance and showed us an A level acting. The music wasn’t unique and distinct as the music of Interstellar for example and I think this movie needed the touch of Hans Zimmer, I’m not saying that Ludwig Göransson failed but Hans Zimmer in another level. If there was something I’d say that I didn’t like it in the movie would it be that Nolan discarded any set up or characters backgrounds except Elizabeth Debicki dramatic story but it wasn’t that bad for me, I didn’t care about that, the exciting story didn’t give me the chance to focus on it. But the actual problem was the third act, it was really complicated and I got lost and I convinced myself to discard the questions that were in my head and enjoy the well-made action sequences and Elizabeth Debicki performance. I think this kind of movie that gets better with a second and third watch. I honestly don’t quite know where to begin with ~Lelki ismeretek. I love Christopher Nolan’s work but I have never seen a more complicated film (and I understood Memento). ~After nearly three hours, I came away from ~Lelki ismeretek not knowing myself, my mind reduced to nothing more than piles of ash. Was there time travel involved? Hmm, there was definitely something about time inversion. I mean, does Nolan even understand what he wrote? Look, I give credit to the director because he’s one of the few directors left who knows how to create a compelling and intelligent blockbuster. ~Lelki ismeretek is full of Nolan trademarks — the gratuitous Michael Caine cameo, a loud, really loud score, complete with stunning cinematography and slickly inventive action set-pieces. This time around however, Nolan has finally managed to ‘out-Nolan’ himself: the palindromic plot, whilst creatively ambitious, is simply far too complicated for its own good. ~Lelki ismeretek is overlong, overstuffed, pretentious and too exhausting to comprehend in its entirety — it makes Inception and Interstellar look like Peppa Pig by comparison. I’m aware of the technical wizardry and creative mastery in this film and lord knows I’ll have to watch this again. For those who want a puzzle, ~Lelki ismeretek at least provides a unique cinematic experience. But to actually enjoy solving it Nolan wants you to work very very hard.

Cadence - CH 17
Tumblr media
In which Vergil learns what might be wrong with him, with help from his friends and family.
Catch up on the story here!
Don’t say I’m out of touch With this rampant chaos your reality I know well what lies beyond my slipping refuge The nightmare I built my own world to escape.
Imaginary - Evanescence
It took less than ten minutes for Vergil to have an existential crisis.
Why did I call Nero?
Why didn’t I call Dante?
What is wrong with me?
Why will you not leave me alone?
And the questions went on and on; a never-ending wave of increasingly dark and impossible to answer things. Vergil tried to stop them. He tried not to think about the possibilities or the mark on his chest. He tried to convince himself that the voice in his head was no more than a nightmare. That the portal he would have opened would have led to nowhere, and he’d just looked like a fool in front of Kuro.
That sword no longer belongs to you. Kuro had said.
What does he know?
A knock on the door startled him. “Verge?” Dante’s voice echoed inside.
Go away, Vergil tried to say, but nothing happened.
“Nero said you might need some help.”
Vergil held back a swear as he forced himself to his feet. He’d barely started zipping his vest up before he heard. “Oh hey Kuro! Didn’t know you could open the door.”
“Are you calling me a fool, mortal?”
“... Why do you have Yamato?”
“Your brother almost returned to his master.”
Vergil took a single step and hit the floor before he could stop himself.
When he opened his eyes again, he saw nothing but pure darkness. He tried to sit up, but a pair of burly hands pushed him back down. Panicked, Vergil fought back. Something cold slipped from his head as he yanked on the arms. They pushed harder, fingernails digging into his skin. Voices echoed in from all directions- a rabble of nothingness. “Let me go!” He snapped. “I will not…”
Nelo.
“I’m not...”
Come back to me, Nelo.
“I’m not his…”
“Dad!”
He froze as a single word broke through the chaos. Dad? No one had ever called him that. No one should call him that. He wasn’t a father. He was barely a man. Just some pawn in Mundus’ endless game. Vergil thought he could escape. He thought this was over. Was two decades of his life not enough? Would the consequences of his mistakes never end?
“I wouldn’t do that, Sunshine,” another voice said. “He’s not exactly in his right mind.”
“It’s alright,” A woman said. Vergil recognized them both, but couldn’t place their names. Everything was dark. So dark. So cold. He was trapped again. Paralyzed and lost in the suit he’d been shoved into.
Then a soft hand brushed his cheek. “Vergil,” The woman’s voice whispered again. “You’re alright. We’re all here for you.”
His eyes snapped open as he gasped for air. Dante’s hand tightened on his shoulder, but it was Roxy’s eyes he met first. Behind her was Nero with a look of pure relief as his shoulders sagged forward and he shook his head. Even further away was Nico with Aki in her hand and a smaller Kuro on her shoulder. “Let go,” Vergil said. This time, his voice was calm enough that Dante listened. Yet, Vergil didn’t sit up. Instead, he let his eyes drift back to her. “You’re awake.”
“Thanks to you,” Roxy said with a nod. Her hand had yet to leave his cheek. “Kuro didn’t have to do much this time.”
“How long has it been.”
“A little over a day I’ve been told.”
“A day,” Vergil said, his voice hollow. “I’ve been out for a day?”
“I found you unconscious in the bathroom,” Dante said. “Don’t worry though! I cleaned ya up and the kid only found ya sleeping,” He gave Vergil a lazy grin, but he heard the truth behind his brother’s oddly peppy words, nobody saw the mark but me. Vergil nodded, hoping to convey his gratitude. If Dante understood or not, he didn’t respond.
“What happened?” Nero said.
Vergil’s eyes closed for another moment. What did he say to that? The truth seemed more unbelievable than anything else he could say. But he had called Nero here for… something.
Why had he thought that this was the right call again?
Yamato.
And, as painful as it was to admit it, Vergil said. “I need one of you to take Yamato.”
Nero, Nico, and Dante all exchanged glances. “Who are you and what have you done to my brother?” Dante said.
That time, Roxy pulled away as Vergil practically shot upright. “Do you honestly think I’d joke about such a thing?”
Dante threw his hands up between them. “I mean the things practically your security blanket, Verge. I’m shocked you’re not holding it right now.”
He wasn’t wrong necessarily, but Vergil really thought his brother could word that entire sentence differently. Instead, he explained what was happening. Or, at the very least, what he assumed was happening. It was difficult to know for certain what was in his head or not. He’d recognize Mundus’ voice from anywhere, as it had permeated all of his nightmares since even before he’d escaped hell. But whether or not he was actually calling to him…
He stopped short and glared at Kuro. “You knew.”
Kuro snorted. “I used to be one of Mundus’ pets myself a long time ago. I remember you.”
Vergil’s eyes widened. “I don’t…”
“I escaped just after he promoted you,” The dragon said. “As did my brother. But my story isn’t important.”
“Promoted?” Nero said. “So you were, what, working for this… Mundus guy?”
That time, it was Dante and Vergil who exchanged glances. “Listen, kid,” Dante said slowly, looking to Vergil for permission. When Vergil said nothing, Dante continued. “Did you ever wonder why your dad was gone for so long? Why he never sought you out or all that jazz?”
Nero frowned. “I just assumed…” He trailed off.
“That I wanted nothing to do with you?” Vergil said.
A slight red tinged Nero’s cheeks. “Well I know now that you didn’t know about me. But still… figured you were an asshole for just abandoning whoever my mom was too.”
“He abandoned everyone,” Dante muttered. Vergil glared at him, but his brother didn’t meet it. “He was trapped in hell, Nero. Twenty years of his life, gone to this ‘Mundus guy’.”
“I’ve heard of him,” Roxy whispered. “But I never imagined…” She closed her eyes and shook her head before meeting his gaze again. “Kuro explained what happened, and we have a theory as to what’s going on. I’ve already called Dia on the matter but…” She trailed off as her eyes flickered away.
“What?” Vergil asked.
“You’re probably not gonna like it.”
“Just get on with it,” Vergil snapped. She flinched before he caught himself, but an apology didn’t come. If she expected one, she didn’t show it. “What’s your theory?” Vergil said, his voice much quieter than before. A part of him already knew what she was going to say , but hearing it was much better than assumptions.
“Kuro believes that Mundus forced you to make a pact with him,” Roxy said. “Now that you’re free, he’s trying to call you back.”
The room went dead silent. Even the younger devil hunters, who had learned Mundus’ name all of five minutes ago, went slack-jawed as their eyes snapped to him. Vergil couldn’t read anyone’s expressions. Dante’s lips were pressed together, and his gaze had hardened to the point that even his eyes didn’t give anything away. Nero looked somewhere between horrified, confused, and trying to find the right words to say. Nico looked like she was pondering something beyond Vergil’s comprehension. Only Roxy’s expression was soft as she placed her fingers on the back of his hand. “It’s alright,” She said. “We can fix this.”
“How?” Vergil said. “How can you fix this, Roxy?”
It was Nico who snorted. “Who knows more about pacts than our resident summoner, V-man?”
“Dia, technically,” Roxy said. “But yes, I know a good amount.” She pushed herself to her feet and took a small step back. “Can the rest of you leave for a bit? I need to speak to Vergil.”
“Are you sure about that?” Dante said. “He’s nearly lost it twice.”
“Keep that sword away,” Kuro growled as he crawled onto Roxy’s shoulder. “And she’ll have nothing to fear.”
“No offense,” Nero said. “But I’m with Dante on this one.”
“I’m not a wild animal,” Vergil said.
“But are you in control?” Dante said.
Vergil glared at his brother. “Yes.”
Dante shrugged. “Alright then,” He beckoned to the other two. “I’ll grab Yamato. You’ll have to take Nico back to the van.” He waved his hand in front of her face to make a point. She didn’t even blink. “She’s far, far away in a galaxy I like to call the Nico-veerse.” He disappeared into the kitchen before returning with Yamato. “We’ll be nearby, sunshine. Holler if you need us,” He glanced at Vergil one last time. But, when Vergil nodded, his brother smiled and left.
“We hadn’t planned on leaving for a few days,” Nero said. “So…”
“We won’t be long,” Roxy said. “Promise.”
Nero hesitated, but he soon followed after Dante, dragging a very distracted Nico behind him. Aki chirped his goodbye as he hopped off Nico’s shoulder and found his way onto Vergil’s lap where he curled up and promptly fell asleep. And while Vergil thought he should have found this annoying in any other situation, the creature’s soft purrs against his legs was oddly soothing. All he could remember was Shadow sleeping beside him on the few nights his human self got any rest. He recalled how he’d wake up in the morning with the oversized kitten lying right on top of him, only a few pounds shy of crushing him outright.
He’d found that comforting too.
“Dia’s going to visit tomorrow,” Roxy said. “But I need to know what we’re dealing with.” She hesitated, followed by a sigh. “I know you’re probably not comfortable with the idea, but Dante mentioned a mark?”
“... It appeared yesterday.”
“I don’t doubt it.”
“How could you possibly know any of this?” Vergil said.
“I know how pact making works,” She countered. “Every demon can be made into a familiar, Vergil. Half-demon or otherwise. My father and Dia studied the effects of half-demon familiars for years before he died. I don’t know everything, but I know enough.” She shook her head. “Humans are able to escape it. Demons can’t. The two halves of your mind are fighting with each other. However…”
“However?”
“Half-demons need a powerful item to bind them to another soul,” Kuro said. “Marks can manifest, yes. But they are not enough. Not when the host wishes to control the other.”
“We think Mundus may have used Yamato,” Roxy said. “If he knew of its portal capabilities, then it’s likely he assumed he could bring you back whenever he wanted, so losing you wasn’t an issue.”
“He likely did not expect you to resist.”
“How can you be certain of any of this?” Vergil asked.
“I’m not,” She said. “With everything I and Dia know, it’s still a shot in the dark. But it’s all we’ve got right now, Vergil.”
“Luckily for you,” Kuro said as he hopped down to the couch. “We may already have a solution.”
“Which is?” Vergil said.
“Dia thinks that we may be able to break your connection with him by creating a new one with me.”
Vergil didn’t understand why his body clenched at the thought. He didn’t know why he suddenly felt light headed, or why the world was spinning. And he certainly didn’t know why he recoiled at the sheer idea of making a pact with her. But there it was. An uncertain and terrible fear that burned in his veins and pulsed in his head. But, as if noticing his distress (was it really that obvious?) Roxy quickly sat across from him. “I would never force you to do anything you don’t want to do,” She said. “And Dia thinks I can break it the second you are free from Mundus’ control.”
That didn’t make him feel any better. “You’re asking me to risk…” He trailed off, self-conscious. Servitude was the word on his tongue, but was that even fair? He wanted to believe that he trusted Roxy. They had gotten to know each other over the last nine or so months. Almost a year now as friends, and at least three months as close companions.
But did that mean he trusted her with his life?
And if not… Did he trust anyone?
“If it would make you more comfortable,” She said. “Then I can show you my own marks as well.”
“You would do that?” Vergil said. “For me?”
“I’m asking you to give me something very personal,” She said. “It’s only fair that I do the same for you.”
“Besides,” Kuro said with a flick of his tongue. “If making a pact is the only way to protect you, then you’ll have to trust each other, or it will never work.”
Vergil was starting to think that the dragon might be reading his thoughts, but he didn’t dare mention it less he gave himself away. But his heart stilled as Roxy held her hand out. “Are you alright?” She whispered; the silly, special phrase that had quickly become their own. Slowly, Vergil met her fingers with his own and nodded. And in that moment, as she squeezed his hand with a quiet reassurance and returned his gaze with a confident smile, Vergil decided that he would trust her. Her, his brother, his son, Nico… all of them.
Because if there was one thing Vergil had finally learned over all these years, it was that he couldn’t fight a war on his own.
“I’ll go first,” She said. “If that’s alright.” She pulled away from him and shed her sweatshirt, revealing a tight fitting tank top beneath. And it was at that moment that Vergil fully realized just  how small the woman before him was. He’d known this already, as her head only came to his chest even in shoes, but she looked even more petite than before. The thought of hurting her… of crushing her with a single hand…
He squeezed his eyes shut when she wasn’t looking, and pulled his thoughts back to reality. He wouldn’t hurt her. He couldn’t hurt her. Not Roxy. Not the woman he’ d grown to care so deeply for.
Care deeply for.
He really was a fool.
And Vergil might have blushed once she removed her shirt, but his eyes drifted to the ice blue swirls on her stomach. Her marks were much lighter than his had been, but Vergil could still see the exquisite details of every small snowflake. The lines continued around her waist, and when she turned, Vergil saw that both sides connected to a dragon-wing. Vergil could feel the demonic magic pulsing from the lines themselves, and he realized that this was the power he'd been feeling. Kuro's power, yes, but mixed with her own humanity. But behind the marks were scars; long, jagged scars that Vergil was certain would never truly fade. Momentos of the accident, he assumed. But they were worse than he thought. But right now, as she shared a piece of herself with him, he didn't dare ask for more.
He had a feeling he'd know soon enough.
When she turned back to face him, there was a playfulness to her tone. It was almost as if this was all completely normal and she wasn't sitting before him in a rather lacy and debatably risque blue bra. And it was that thought, of all things, that finally brought the heat to his cheeks. But only a little. No more than was necessary. (He'd have to ponder the strange buzzing energy that pulsed through the rest of him later). "Your turn," She said. And when he did unzip his vest, she waited for a nod before pressing her fingers against his mark.
Her touch made him shiver. This was wildly intimate. More so than any hand holding. But if she felt any discomfort, she didn't show it. Professional, Vergil thought. And if she could manage that, so could he.
“The good news,” She said as her fingers traced the lines. “Is that this isn’t a very strong mark, meaning he’s aware that you can fight him off if given enough time.”
“Why would it appear now?”
“Could be to scare you,” she said. “He might want you to think that you don’t have a choice, or that returning to him is an inevitability. But do you see how faded the lines are?” Vergil nodded before she continued. “His link to you is tenuous at best, and I think Kuro was right about Yamato.”
The dragon huffed. “Of course I was.”
“Regardless,” she said with a soft glare in the familar’s direction. “Dia will be able to tell us more tomorrow.” Her gaze shifted back to his chest and she frowned.
“What is it?”
“This one in the middle,” She said. “ It’s not a mark, persay. It’s more of a scar. But you heal everything… right?"
Vergil reached for the zipper of his vest. "I guess some wounds never heal… even mine."
Then their eyes met, and it took everything Vergil had to keep his gaze on hers. Roxy was close now. So…. very close. If he turned just right and leaned forward just enough…
“Are you alright?” She whispered, but there was something else to her tone. Something else Vergil couldn’t quite pick out of the chaos raging in his mind. He found himself reaching for her cheek, and his knuckles gently caressed the skin as he stared into her beautiful emerald eyes. She tilted her head and nuzzled against him, eyes never leaving his own. The hand on his chest drifted to the side as she shifted closer. Her breath was cool on his lips and smelled of mint. He tilted his head and leaned in…
“If you were planning this,” Dia’s voice echoed in disapproval. “Then you probably shouldn’t have called me.”
Roxy jumped at the same time as Vergil. And, in an uncharacteristic show of clumsiness, his forehead knocked straight into hers. The resounding thud made his ears ring. She groaned as she pulled away, rubbing the side of her forehead as she fumbled around for her jacket. “It wasn’t like that,” She muttered. “And you said you were coming tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow. Today. It’s all the same.” She waved her off. “Now lets see if we can fix our little Mundus problem, shall we?”

[ june 2019, 1:28 am, fruit basket’s dorm living room ]
suyeong couldn’t sleep.
she had no clue why, she just assumed it was because she had so much going on, it was taking a toll on her already horrid sleeping schedule. suyeong had remembered having sleeping problems as a young child, but as she grew into a teen, she overcame it. it was just when she became an idol that she noticed it starting to come back.
she had a love-hate relationship with sleep, on one hand it made her feel refreshed and rested, but sometimes that didn’t work, and she’s wake up feeling more tired and groggy then she had the previous night.
sighing, suyeong turned the tv on, flipping through channels mindlessly. she knew she wasn’t sleeping at that point, so she might as well turn something on to occupy her mind until she hopefully crashed, finally succumbing to the sleep that she so desperately needed but didn’t want.
from her bedroom down the hall, hyeonmi heard the tv and decided to leave her room and investigate. suyeong heard her footsteps while she was trying her best to sneak down the hall, and looked back to face her.
“what are you doing up?” suyeong asked.
“i could say the same to you. did you see what time it is?” hyeonmi replied dryly, sitting down on the couch next to suyeong. “what’s up? can’t sleep?”
“nope.” suyeong sighed, still flipping through channels trying to find a decent one, not like she was gonna watch it anyways, it was just background noise so she didn’t feel so alone.
hyeonmi tilted her head thoughtfully, “something on your mind?”
“you could say that.”
“alright, spill it. what’s on your mind? you can talk to me, you know that. i’ll listen.”
suyeong shook her head, “it’s nothing important. i’m just thinking about things.”
“like what?”
“life, i guess.”
“what do you mean?”
“life. how else do i word it?”
“well you could be more specific.”
suyeong slumped, “i don’t know. like... the future, i guess? like, what’s in store for us?”
“oh, i see.” hyeonmi said, “i think about that sometimes too. it’s a bit sad but like, i think about what would happen if we disbanded. would we stay friends? maybe debut somewhere else? or would we part ways? it makes me spiral but i guess it’s something that will inevitably happen.”
suyeong nodded, “yeah, but i’m more worried about our individual futures, not just the whole group. i’m worried about the maknaes, unnie.”
hyeonmi looked at her. “how so?”
“when eunji wasn’t doing well a few years ago, i was so worried. i was scared about what would happen if she were to relapse. i know she’s doing better, but there’s always that possibility.”
“i get it. i get worried for her too sometimes, but she’s doing so much better now! there’s nothing to worry about, she’s got us by her side!”
“i’m worried about ahreum too. i feel like if one of us was to break off and do their own thing, it would be her.”
“really?” hyeonmi said, “what do you mean?”
“you’ve definitely noticed, it’s hard not to. i feel like she’s been spending more time with her boyfriend then she has with us, and her and eunji have been arguing about it. you’ve heard them, haven’t you? i mean i get it, i know what it’s like to be young and in love, but i feel like jaebeom is going to make her less interested in us. i’ve been thinking about other things too, like, what if they take their relationship further? what if he gets her pregnant? she’s too young for a kid, unnie!”
“suyeong, calm down.” hyeonmi set a hand gently on her shoulder, “i can talk to ahreum, i’ll be sure to tell her everything she needs to know.”
“you certainly have more relationship experience than the rest of us do.” suyeong said.
“that’s part of it, yeah,” hyeonmi continued, “but also because she trusts me. i’m not saying she doesn’t trust you, but she treats me like her older sister, she always comes to me for advice. i’ll make sure she doesn’t do anything she’ll regret.”
“you’ve noticed she’s not been hanging out with us as much lately though? you’ve noticed her and eunji arguing about it, right? you’ve had to have notice that.”
“she’s in that point in her relationship where her and jaebeom are inseparable. it’s always like that with the first few months, they’re completely obsessed with each other at this point in time, but soon enough they’ll be more comfortable with each other and feel like they won’t have to spend every waking moment with each other.”
“i feel like this is making it seem like i don’t like jaebeom,” suyeong laughed, “it’s not that, i think he’s a really good guy and is perfect for ahreum. not to mention he’s actually adorable.”
“i know, he’s literally the cutest. have you seen all the nice things he buys her? he’s gonna drain his bank account because of how much he loves ari. she doesn’t even ask for anything!”
“i think he’s great for her. i just wonder how long they’ll last.”
“i wonder that too. i hope it’s a while.”
“me too.”
hyeonmi adjusted her sitting position, because her leg was beginning to fall asleep. “speaking of relationships, have you got your eye on anyone?”
suyeong laughed, “wouldn’t you like to know.”
“i would actually. you think someone new is cute every week, who’s the lucky one this week?”
suyeong lightly shoved her arm, “that’s not true!”
hyeonmi smirked slightly, “you’re blushing. who is it? i won’t embarrass you, i promise.”
“yeah, like i believe that.”
“i won’t tell a soul.”
“are you sure?”
“i’m sure.”
“don’t go trying to set us up together! all the people i think are cute are way out of my league!”
“come on! just tell me!”
“well...” suyeong’s cheeks flared bright red, “there’s two.”
“who’s the first?”
“i think aki from venus is really cute. she seems like the type of person that’s always in a relationship though, i don’t think i have a chance with her. don’t try anything.”
hyeonmi laughed, “i won’t! now who’s the other one?”
suyeong fidgeted with her hands, “hana from b2u. she’s out of my league too, don’t you dare try anything with her either.”
hyeonmi laughed again, “your secrets are safe with me.”
“now,” suyeong began, “since i spilled my crushes, it’s only fair if you do too.”
“oh, wow.” hyeonmi leaned back, “you may find this hard to believe, but i actually don’t have my eye on anyone right now. i’m too busy for relationships.”
“yeah right,” suyeong scoffed, “if you don’t want to tell me, fine. you’re paying for our coffee tomorrow morning.”
“if that’s what it takes to let you know i’m telling the truth, that’s fine with me.” hyeonmi replied.
“anyways, thanks for staying up and letting me spill some of my problems,” suyeong yawned, “i think i might actually get some sleep tonight, i feel slightly more relieved then i did 30 minutes ago.
“glad i could help.” hyeonmi replied.
“i’ll get a glass of water and then i’m gonna head to bed. you can go if you want. or stay, i wouldn’t mind that either.”
“let me guess, you want to sleep in my room tonight?”
“yeah.”
hyeonmi laughed, “that’s fine, get your water and i’ll be in bed.”
and then they parted ways- for five minutes at most but still. suyeong went into the kitchen, and grabbed a glass, pouring herself a small glass of water before heading down the hall into hyeonmi’s room.
suyeong always went to sleep in hyeonmi’s room when she was feeling down. or if she couldn’t sleep, or if she had a nightmare, or literally anything else. if there was an excuse to sleep in hyeonmi’s room, suyeong took it.
“you got your water?” hyunmi said, looking over from under her covers as suyeong walked in.
suyeong nodded, “you sure got into bed fast.”
“i was tired.”
suyeong scoffed, “weakling.”
“yah! having a bad sleep schedule isn’t a god thing!”
climbing into bed, suyeong chuckled under her breath.
at that moment she felt invincible, like hyeonmi was the shield that would protect suyeong from whatever life threw at her. suyeong was small, vulnerable, easily manipulated. hyeonmi was tall, strong, and defended suyeong with her life. she was like a mother, older sister, and best friend all at the same time. suyeong believed they were soulmates, but never told anyone that, although she was sure hyeonmi felt the same.
suyeong couldn’t quite explain it, but when hyeonmi was by her side, she felt like she could conquer the world. meeting hyeonmi was one of the best things that ever happened to her.
“you know...” suyeong mumbled, “when we were trainees, i had a crush on you.”
“it was pretty obvious.” hyeonmi replied, “i just never said anything about it. you know before you came out to us i already suspected it right?”
suyeong sighed, “that’s what i thought. thanks for not bringing it up before, i wouldn’t have been on the right state of mind for that.”
suyeong sighed, bringing the covers up to her chin. she stayed silent for a few seconds, just staring at the ceiling, taking note of all the uneven paint patches and cracks, there were probably more, but it was dark and she couldn’t see them all.
“you know,” suyeong continued after a few seconds, “we should go out for breakfast tomorrow, all four of us. we have no plans i don’t think, and it’d be nice for just the four of us to go out together. does that sound...”
she trailed off when she heard soft snoring from hyeonmi’s side of the bed.
“how dare you sleep before i finished talking.” suyeong laughed, “i guess that means i should go to sleep too.”
and that was the best sleep suyeong had gotten in quite a while.

Midnight Question
Love Live, NicoMaki, 2.2k, 1/1
A/N: This is perhaps the start of an AU that takes some themes from my Idol Protection Program AU, throws in a dose of Terrace House, and Maki gets to choose music instead of medicine. And the future will factor in the second season of Love Live Sunshine.I also wanted to write something short for our favorite redhead's birthday, I just finished it a bit early. I'm posting it so I don't talk myself out of it. Now back to jazz.
Summary: Otonokizaka Second Year student Nishikino Maki runs into some academic trouble. What's behind her slump?
Midnight Question
R: Hey Maki Maki, what’s up?
Nishikino Maki picked up her phone, frowning. She’d just seen Hoshizora Rin at school and her goofy ginger BFF and Rin’s girlfriend, Koizumi Hanayo were planning to hit three different ramen shops tonight to celebrate Rin’s highest grade on a project ever. So there should be no time for interrupting Maki with casual chatter.
M: Working.
R: Studying?
Maki hated lying so she didn’t. She also didn’t clarify. She did hit pause on the track she’d been composing on her Korg synth.
M: Not exactly. Aren’t you and Hanayo restaurant touring tonight?
R: We are. Just resting between bowls. And we want to know why I got a better score than you on the project.
M: You worked hard, Rin (^^)b
R: You didn’t.
Maki didn’t reply.
R: Do you miss Nico that much ╥﹏╥
Yes, Maki missed Yazawa Nico, her very busy, very talented girlfriend, and member of last year’s Otonokizaka graduating class. Contrary to the opinion of her family and friends, that was not why Maki, the pride of the Nishikinos, former top student was now treading water smack in the middle of her class. But letting them think Maki’s academic slump was about Nico kept them from getting too nosy. And Nico, now an executive producer and rising star resident of the 𝝁’s inspired inaugural season of Idol House, had been too busy to ask about Maki’s schoolwork. Maki made sure Nico was thinking about other things when they had dates. Because Maki was too often thinking about other things and too little anywhere near Nico. And now, thanks to Rin, Maki felt a wave of longing, to have Nico sitting there, headphones slotted in next to Maki’s, listening to Maki’s latest creations, suggesting a chord, occasionally reaching over to run her fingers across Maki’s neck, ruffling hair, glowing at Maki when the tune reached its full potential, leaning in now that Maki had...but that was fantasy Nico. Actual Nico met Maki for burgers and midnight makeout sessions every couple weeks when she was free and in Tokyo. As discontent started to froth in Maki’s stomach, her phone buzzed her out of the Nico haze.
R: So that’s a yes. Call her.
M: It’s more complicated than that.
R: =( ̄□ ̄;)⇒ WITH NICO? WHAT HAPPENED? IS IT THAT AKI-SAN GIRL.
M: No, no Rin, don’t start rumors. Nico’s fine, just busy. So am I. We text everyday.
R: (⊙︿⊙✿)
Maki sighed.
M: Enjoy your night. I’ll tell you sometime soon. EVERYTHING’S OKAY.
R: If you say so (๑´╹‸╹`๑)
R: We’re here for you, you know, me and Kayo-chin (っ⇀⑃↼)っ
M: I know.
M: ₍ఠ ͜ఠ₎ Thanks
R: Get some sleep, Maki-chan ꒰◍ᐡᐤᐡ◍꒱
Maki put her phone down. Don’t think about Nico, she told herself, get back to work.
                                                     ###
Hours since the Rin text chat...Maki reached up to slide her headphones off. Her parents were probably at the hospital, she might have eaten something, what time was it? Sadly, ramen sounded good. Rin would probably know what Maki could keep up here with her electric tea kettle that wouldn’t taste like cardboard and worms. Prep for college. Maki shoved her seat back...college, more books, less Nico, and another year of high school still…
The NicoTone...Maki glanced at the text.
N: Ladder
Nico was here. And not at the front door. It had been half a year since Maki had snuck Nico into her room this way...Maki pulled open her bottom desk drawer. Yep, the fire ladder was still there. She took it to the window, made sure it was braced, and lowered the rungs, watching out the window as Nico scrambled up. The tiny singer pulled herself up, swung her legs over the window, and then sat back, “Hey.” Her long, black hair was pulled into a ponytail under a pink 𝝁’s ballcap, she was wearing a loose gray sweatshirt over a black bra, capris leggings that looked like Samurai armor, and pink kicks. Sporty casual. A big switch from the business formal Maki had gotten used to seeing her in when they'd meet after Nico finished all day meetings.
“Nico?” Maki impulsively hugged Nico, a sweaty, tempting musk pushing sleep even further away. Then Nico wiggled loose.
“Good guess...now why are you flunking out of high school?” Nico’s eyes were narrowed and much darker, both in color and mood.
“I’m not flunking…” Maki balled her hands into fists, “What did Rin tell you?”
“Her grades are higher than yours and you miss Nico so much you cry yourself to sleep every night.” Nico pushed herself out of the window, examining Maki’s laptop and synth setup curiously. “Got any snacks up here?”
“In my backpack.” Maki pointed, exasperated. The 𝝁’s rumor mill aka Lily White, Rin, Nozomi, and Umi, continued to function at rocket speed. “I don’t cry myself to sleep.”
Nico grabbed Maki’s backpack, bounced onto Maki’s bed, made herself a nest in the pillows, and started digging for calories. “So Rin DID score higher than you?”
“Yes.” Maki sat, closing tabs on her laptop.
Nico whistled, “Do your parents know?”
“Not yet.”
“Are they also going to call Nico up and accuse her of neglecting you?” Nico’s eyes were brighter but not happier.
“I told Rin we were fine. Look!” Maki slid her desk chair closer to Nico, offering her phone.
Nico unwrapped a cupcake with one hand, Maki’s phone in the other, her voice suddenly chilling.“Why are you texting Tsubasa? About lyrics?”
Maki froze. “Uh…” Oh right, you could see at least 6 ongoing conversations from that screen.
“Uh?” Nico bit into the cupcake, threw Maki’s phone down the bed, and spoke while chewing, “It’s no wonder you don’t miss Nico. Everyone’s ‘texting’ you.” She pulled a pillow in front of her, between them, chin pushing down into it, mouth twisted, eyebrow raised, “I thought the latest A-Rise song sounded 𝝁’s nostalgic....it’s not just because Tsubasa’s mad crushing on you or Honoka or...is it.”
“Tsubasa’s not crushing on…” Maki leaned from chair to bed.
“Maki.” Nico’s voice snapped.
Maki had a sudden thought and put her knees on the bed, crawling Nico-ward, “Do we have to talk right now?” Maki paused, feeling a little silly but somewhat feral, and decided to go all in with a wink, shaking her head, curls bobbing, eyelashes fluttering, coyly gazing at Nico, which rated an eye roll from her visitor, “I’ve missed you, Nico-chan. You look so cute on my laptop screen.”
Nico snorted and dropped Maki’s backpack to the floor, “Watch Nico on a bigger screen. It’s worth it. You’ll be saying sexy.”
“Sexy.” Maki mouthed it slowly, tongue flicking, desperate, close enough to Nico that she could feel her girlfriend’s breath on her lips, and then Maki forgot she had any kind of plan and surged forward. Nico was here, close enough to…
And Maki was flipped, Nico had taken the moment when Maki scrambled forward, off balance, to drop the redhead to the side, rolling Maki on her back after a brief wrestle, and straddling her waist, “Nope. Nico came to talk.” Nico only sounded slightly smug.
Maki pouted, Nico laughed, “Nico missed Maki” and there was a quick kiss and Maki surged up, but Nico had her solidly pinned, “but Nico seems to have missed Maki turning into a two timing delinquent.”
“I AM NOT.” Maki couldn’t help it, she shouted, and Nico’s finger was on her lips.
“Shush.”
“I am not two timing.” Maki could feel her jaw clench.
A sigh, “I know. What are you doing?”
“Writing music.”
Maki was watching Nico’s face and she would have sworn Nico was angry, but her voice was full of casual disinterest, “For A-Rise?”
Maki was getting uncomfortable. She was only wearing boxers and a tank top and Nico was very warm and actually touching her. And Maki had had too many dreams that started like this recently. It was why she’d given up sleeping. She wanted Nico to shift, to a more advantageous position for...conversation, but no, Nico was persisting in using her like a tatami mat. All while Nico was being silent and judgy and thinking. Maki was too much a bundle of nerves not to be pacing right now. Which Nico knew. And yet, here she was, cold bloodedly dropping one hand on Maki’s shoulder, the other on her hip to discourage fidgeting.
“Nico…” It wasn’t a whine, not really...
“Writing music for…” Nico’s chin jutted with the verbal nudge.
“A-Rise...a couple of singers they know...I haven’t been doing it for long…” Way to sound confident, Nishikino, Maki thought as her voice quivered.
A staring match. Maki still thinking Nico might be mad, the eyebrow was at low grade twitch level, but Nico’s voice remained terribly, terribly calm.
“And Nico is the last to know.”
“No one knows, Nico-chan…”
“Tsubasa does…” Ah, now we were mad, Maki realized, as Nico pounced forward, causing Maki’s heart to race with wild hope, but then Nico just pushed up and was back sitting in the window, arms crossed, before Maki could react. “You could have written a song for Nico.” Finally, impatience cracked Nico’s tone.
“I did, before…” Maki pointed to the laptop, “You can listen to them…”
Nico’s eyes widened, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“You’re talking to professional producers now.” Maki knew she sounded petty, but it had stung, the first time she saw Nico working with a talent the Idol House producers had set her up with, “And you didn’t ask me to.” Maki also knew she sounded bitter, but this was a grudge she’d been holding in for the past three months of filming. “You and Papa made sure I have nothing to do with Idol House.”
Nico dropped her head, then sprang to her feet, Maki watching fascinating as the genuine YAZAWA NICO raged across her bedroom, hands flying, voice cracking, nearly hopping with rage, “I WAS LETTING YOU BE A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT.”
Maki wasn’t sure if her parents were home and she didn’t care. Nico was here and she was finally noticing Maki the musician again, “THAT’S NOT WHAT I WANT.’
“YOU’RE NOT EVEN 17 YET.”
“I KNOW WHAT I WANT.”
Nico hesitated, hands hovering by her side, she and Maki were nose to nose and her eyes were deep ruby temptations but Maki dug her nails into her palms.
“WHAT?” Nico inhaled, “WHAT DO YOU WANT, MAKI?.”
“YOU. I WANT YOU.”
Shocked, Nico retreated back to the window, “You want to be Nico’s child bride?”
“Yes.” Wait, Maki wasn’t a child, that was annoying, but Nico said bride, was that a proposal…
Nico watched Maki for a minute as the redhead raced through thoughts, paying no attention to her, then spoke at a normal volume. “That wasn’t a proposal.”
“Oh.” Maki thought for another minute, grabbed Nico’s hand, dragged her over to her desk, yanked open a drawer and pulled out a jewelry box, “This is. Marry me, Nico-chan.”
The ring was platinum, with a cluster of pale pink gems designed to look like cherry blossoms. Maki had seen the ring at an art fair and knew it was meant for Nico’s hand. Like Nico, it was unique, an original, the designer had only made one, beautiful, striking, irreproducible, breathtaking, lustrous, every adjective that suited Nico. Was Nico crying?
“Nico-chan?” Maki whispered, maybe she was down on one knee but it was only to see if Nico was crying, taking off the ball cap, gently sweeping strands of Nico’s silky hair back.
“You’re impossible.” Nico was bawling. Her outbursts no longer terrified Maki as much as the first few times, but it did make her cautious, Maki put the ring box on her desk, and took Nico in her arms, sitting them both on the bed. Nico had her head on Maki’s shoulder. Maki could feel her skin getting wet, although Nico’s crying had turned silent, “What is Nico going to do with you?”
“Marry me.” Maki suggested, kissing Nico’s hair. “We run away together, I write songs for you, you sing, we tour, we teach our children all the words to the 𝝁’s songs…”
“Children?” Nico sat up.
Maki shrugged.
Deft, delicate fingers stroked Maki’s hair, Nico whispering in her ear, “Nico needs to visit more. You daydream too much.”
Maki just hummed, squeezing Nico tighter, enjoying the sable hairs tickling her nose, and the fruity shampoo Nico always used. “Just enough.”
Red eyed with crying, Nico tried to recover some of her dignity, tapping Maki on the shoulder, “Nico’s songs need to better than Tsubasa’s.”
Nico hadn’t said no. Nico hadn’t said no. Maki giggled, silly and triumphant. “Of course they will be, they’re Nico-chan’s,” With the gentlest of touches, she turned Nico’s head so their lips were practically brushing, and with the softest of whispers, confessed again, “So am I.”

isn't it impossible ? ✽ kimiko ✽ chapter 1 ✽ re: ch1 start attn: yoshiko, aki
#sudden swearing after first icon
Kimiko was certainly no expert in how Hope’s Peak handled their admin, or train disasters or running of their stations, or… whoever or whatever the hell Monokuma and Monomi were. But given their current situation, the LEAST she felt she could expect on the abrupt shutting down of these services was that, well, their purpose had been served! It was time for them to get out of here! And not a moment too soon, she MIGHT just add there.
The realisation of just how wrong she was began to prickle over her skin at the first abnormal rule that rolled so easily off Monokuma’s tongue, her own already burning to cry out some expression of the outrage she’d been storing up at not being able to contact anyone. But for once in Kimiko’s life the feeling withered away the split second before she had chance to act on it, dampened by that ridiculous Good Luck kid attacking Yoshiko and the dubious rules just continuing on and on and-
Tumblr media
“Heyyyyyy, what the absolute shitting FUCK!”
It wasn’t often that Kimiko Kita allowed herself to swear. Image, impressionable children, all that jazz. But honestly? She felt THIS deserved it, if any moment did!
(Stuck down here to murder each other- she, Kimiko Kita, was GENUINELY stuck down here with the idea that either she killed someone or they killed HER- the levels of ridiculous this was–!!)
Tumblr media
“ANYONE tries to lay a hand on me and they’ll reaaaaaally be in for it, got it? Whether this is real or not! Not that I think that ANY of you could take me really, but don’t expect me to just sit back and deal with it!"
It was as though the fog around her head had cleared, the departure of the mascots and the overwhelming pressure of those taser-inducing rules finally opening the damn for what Kimiko really thought towards all of this, rather than standing frozen. But it was as she whipped her head round at all those closest to her to show that her expression meant business, a flash of blonde caught her eye- and that was enough to freeze her in place again.
…Ughhhhh, she HAD been planning to leave and get over herself ASAP, but- this was just- god–
Tumblr media
”…Ugh, she didn’t even break a rule, Robogirl!“
As though her threatening outburst hadn’t just happened, Kimiko flipped her hair over her shoulder and made a beeline for Yoshiko on the ground, the only indication that she’d noticed Aki doing the same thing being that she began speaking to her as she crouched by Yoshiko’s side.
Tumblr media
"Look, Ishii, tell no-one, buuuuuut… I’m not exactly first aid trained or anything, you know? That sounds like it’d be more YOUR kinda setting than anything- if they had ELECTRICITY on the field, I guess! Ugh ugh ugh! If I pick her up am I gonna get electrocuted too? What did you come over to do, anyway? Whatever your idea is, I don’t think she should be staying here!”
Worries aside, Kimiko gingerly slid her hands underneath Yoshiko’s back, gaining more confidence as soon as she found electrocution did not in fact linger to properly pick the other girl up into a bridal carry.
“Hey, Koko, are you hearing us here? Ohhhhhhh god, I had BETTER not be holding a BODY already! Ko-koooooo! Ughhhh, should we just go put her on a lounge couch or something? Orrrr if Koko has a preference? If she can hear me!"

Note
if Dabi is a todoroki, and his name follows the season theme, I think it'd have "Aki" in it and not "Haru", since the fall/autumn season's aesthetic is like death and decay and moody sadness and shit.
heyhey, well i didn’t come up with that theory but i think i saw someone mentioning somewhere that you could use the shou 焦, in shouto in an autumn related word? i looked that up but i actually couldn’t find anything (i only looked for like 10min only but). also when i saw that post i was torn because i ended up being, “omg haru is so cute!” and then “oh god it’s way TOO cute”. for dabi atleast. imagine it’s really haru and shigaraki finds out. mister jazz hands will make fun of him i’m sure.
but thanks to your ask, i thought of something else. yeah, autumn suits dabi better character wise but it would also make much more sense for shouto to be spring because he’s half hot half cold. going from winter to summer. lying in between and having both qualities. so yes, dabi is autumn now. (and always ready for halloween)
the autumn kanji 秋 is mostly read as aki or shuu so i guess that would be in his name. i doubt that dabi gets a regular japanese name though. he will get a name built like the others. i found something though that could maybe fit?
秋暑 - しゅうしょ (shuusho): lingering heat (in autumn)
and i thought that maybe horikoshi might also use the kani for blue because of the flames. and that and the autumn one , so 秋青, could also be read as shuusho or shuusei. not necessarily a fan of my made up name though haha. i mean sound wise. i don’t see dabi being called shuusho/shuusei. shuuya sounds nice. but i should stop. you didn’t ask for names and if i continue looking for what his name possibly could be i’ll be researching for another few hours.
