Please.
Take a seat.
And let me tell you about HROSE CAMP (by @legendlarkpod )
I am. Obsessed. Ainsley, The Gap and Postminger are the most perfect toxic girlbossing little bully horse girls (gender neutral). Literally only flaw is that their horses were never described but I will forgive it this time. And yes i know there was a whole bit about how they wear boots but i like my hobbits freaky and barefoot!!

AT LAST, THE TRIFECTA IS COMPLETED!!! Ainsley, Antone Postminger, and The Gap from Hrose Camp Adventures! Yes, Hrose.
I updated Antone's art a bit before sending off the print of them for @legendlarkpod's Q3 Patreon mail. Had a lot of fun coordinating these two punk halflings and this fancy human, trying to make sure their styles came across strongly while also tying them together as group.
You can buy the print bundle at legendlark.store!

hrose camp headcanons
the gap is agender
he used he/him bc he simply did not care and then took they/them bc he wanted to match ainsley (still does not really care! just with two sets of pronouns now)
similarly, ainsley started using he/him a lil bit bc the gap and antone both use he/him
antone likes an even distribution of pronouns, ainsley prefers they/them with a little he/him thrown in now and then for flavor, the gap would neither notice nor care if you used one set of pronouns for them forever or if you changed pronouns every time
the gap, slake, and ainsley were a friend group for like. a week or two before ainsley "went away to horse camp indefinitely." it was mostly slake and ainsley and then ainsley and the gap
ainsley knows ALL the tricks for washing clothes. a stain??? on THEIR hoodie?? it's less likely than you think
antone's pretty good at manipulating people, but it varies wildly based on how confident they are and how much pressure there is on them to do it successfully
ainsley knows that the gap's parents are dead. the gap also knows, really deep down, but has repressed it so hard they've convinced themself that his parents are still alive. ainsley goes along with it bc they don't want to make the gap sad and like, it's fine, they're doing fine, so what does it matter?
ainsley, the gap, and antone were all weird kids who went through a bunch of hobbies to try and entertain themselves, but they all went in different directions + some of those skills stuck better than other
the gap is a very kind person but also kind of mean. ainsley absolutely enables this behavior
ainsley and the gap threaten murder for each other all the time (they couldn't actually COMMIT any murder. but they'll threaten it). some of it is lighthearted, like "the sun's hurting your eyes? i'll kill it" and some of it is more intent (like in chapter one LKSDFJ:SFJ)
antone is new so they're not as ride or die yet but i think the gap would eventually threaten murder for antone, who would secretly be touched by it
whenever ainsley, antone, and the gap hold hands the gap HAS to be in the middle or he gets sad

Ainsley and The Gap are pronoun vampires. They absorb the pronouns of whoever they're close to the longest. It's why their pronouns were never specified when they first appeared, why they were referred to as they/them while hanging out with Slake, and why they're slowly becoming he/theys due to their proximity to Postminger.

One Georgia Democrat is fed up with some members of her own party, accusing them of prioritizing illegal immigrants over Black children as kids struggle to stay afloat academically and economically.
State Rep. Mesha Mainor, a Democrat, is a staunch supporter of school choice, and she torched Georgia Democrats on "Fox & Friends" Monday for aiding migrant families while poor residents struggle with necessities.
"I was speaking to someone that works with migrants the other day, and when I was talking about my constituents, she said, ‘well, what about this program?’ And then she had to… step back a second," Mainor told Ainsley Earhardt Monday morning.
"And she said, ‘Oh, but those are just for migrants.’ And so there are so many services that… from a humanitarian aspect, sure. Give them those humanitarian aspects. But if you walk down the street in Atlanta, Georgia, right now, you are going to see kids on the corner selling water because they are trying to make money for their households."
GEORGIA GOV. BRIAN KEMP ENDORSES $6,500 PRIVATE SCHOOL VOUCHER BILL
"They don't have lights on… to do homework, and this is just a much broader issue than people are realizing," she continued.
Mainor garnered attention on the issue after she posted a video on Twitter over the weekend accusing her colleagues of trying to oust her over her stance on school choice.
"It's ironic. I'll say every election year, I hear ‘Black Lives Matter.’ But do they? I see every other minority being prioritized except Black children living in poverty that can't read," Mainor said in the video.
"We'll send $1,000,000 to the border for immigrant services, but Black communities, not even a shout-out. I'm sorry, I don't agree with this," she added. "I'm not backing down and I'm actually just getting started."
BLUE STATE COVID LEARNING LOSS WIDENED RACIAL ACHIEVEMENT GAPS RELATIVE TO RED STATES: STUDY
She even accused some fellow lawmakers of offering $1,000 checks "to anyone that will run against" her.
Mainor's deep-blue 56th House District stretches from southwest Atlanta up into the Midtown area and includes schools in dire need of improvement. She said some schools in her area have low single-digit proficiency levels in math and/or reading.
Additionally, politicians are not doing enough to counter the sliding academic achievement gap, she argued.
"We are acting like we care about Black people, and in my opinion, we are doing very little for Black people, and when you're talking about something like school choice, it really helps Black people. It helps children that are disabled," Mainor said.
"And so we put priorities on lots of other minorities, and I'm not saying that these other minorities are not important, but I feel like we are putting Black people at the very bottom of the totem pole," she continued.
School choice advocates also support expansion of charter schools, which have grown greatly in Georgia in recent years and many of which count minority students as a majority of their enrollments.
Charter schools are publicly funded schools that are independently run and include students who are not in the immediate area; teachers unions often oppose them as well since their teachers generally are not unionized.
Mainor said parents in her district are in favor of school choice, and the backlash from her colleagues on the issue is a "slap" in the face to anyone who supports their right to choose where their children attend class.
"My parents want school choice," Mainor said. "I have the most charter schools in my district than any other district in the state of Georgia, and so for my party, my colleagues, to say that all these parents that have chosen charter schools and are choosing school choice options are irrelevant and not important, it's not only a slap in my face, but they're slapping every single parent in my district that uses these services in the face as well."
According to the NAEP Report Card, average math and reading scores dropped 9.8 points and 6.3 points respectively, in Georgia, from 2017 to 2022.

January thoughts: Why  I Make Art
By Pia De Girolamo
January 2023
January is a transitional month of endings and beginnings. In art, the god Janus is depicted as having two faces, one looking ahead and one looking backwards. So it is fitting that in January people feel moved to take stock, review the old year, and make plans for the new. During this liminal time at the beginning of the month, I happened to be walking the dog when a memory about art emerged from a stream of thoughts. I remembered reading in a book* on aesthetics that art “intensifies the sense of immediate living” and by art, the author means everything from cave paintings, to tattoos, to pottery, jewelry, poetry, theater etc. *(Art as Experience by John Dewey—it’s a bear to get through, so don’t start reading it unless you really want some brain calisthenics). As one thought led to another, I started wondering about why art exists and why I make it, topics that I find useful and interesting to revisit from time to time.
Tumblr media
Callla Lily by Pia De Girolamo
Picasso said “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life“. While art can be escapist it can also lift a veil and remind us to see and experience reality, the good and the bad, which often gets lost in the fog of our thoughts and the busyness of our lives. When we put ourselves on auto pilot we forget to look, to feel, and to appreciate a tree, a place, a person, a landscape, a rock, a cup of coffee, a crumbling, graffitied building. It allows us to see with fresh eyes and with a “Beginner’s Mind”.
Why do I make art? Making art makes me an explorer of the world.  It allows me to experience things twice-once in real life and once again in the studio. My inquisitiveness is engaged and I look at things more closely and experience more fully in order to get them down on paper or canvas.
Art takes me “out of my head” when a painting is clicking along without me having to think about it and I am in a state of flow. State of flow is like a form of meditation and often like a mini-vacation.  At some point after the flow ceases though, the analytical brain takes over with its narrative of critique-does it work? is it balanced? is it interesting? Which is usually necessary to some degree to bring a painting to fruition. Even though this is the “rational” brain engaging it is a very interesting exercise because it poses questions and what ifs as in “what happens if I change this color, or this shape and so on and how does it affect the rest of the painting”? These questions lead to other questions and keeps me fascinated with the process of creating.
Elizabeth Gilbert in her book Big Magic says she writes solely because she likes to, she enjoys her creativity, and writing is fun! And really isn’t that the bottom line?  I make art because I love making art! I am delighted by the process that takes me from a blank canvas to something completely new. Art making is of course frustrating at times and closing the gap between intention and execution is a tricky tightrope to walk, but the totality of the act of creation is fun and exciting, sometimes just because it is challenging and the outcome is not assured.
Art is a means of connection with other people. I especially love it when a viewer can tell me how and why my art moved them. It’s also interesting when a viewer sees a meaning or feeling that I did not consciously intend but subconsciously might be there. Then I deepen my understanding of the work as well as myself, and that may help me make the next painting. Even if the viewer’s interpretation is way off base, if it helps them make a connection with the work, the art has found a way to forge a personal connection.

Ainsley in the Green Chair by Pia De Girolamo
In early spring an insistent impulse-something not rational-compels me to start cleaning out my pots and my vegetable patch and start getting ready for planting. This winter an impulse (the whispers of Janus?) compelled me to think generally about art and why I make it, which jumpstarted the desire to evaluate last year’s specific highs and lows in my art and then set goals. Essentially, I sketched the outlines of a year and I’ll be painting in the scene, figuring it all out along the way.

Not everybody meets someone, and isn’t it safer to just be okay with that?
Well, not according to Murphy O’Hara’s friends, who are dead-set on pushing her into the arms of whichever bachelor wedding guest will catch her. Much as she appreciates their meddling investment in her completely stalled love life… It’s going to be a long night, so Murphy keeps finding her way back to the bar.
After all, even if the whiskey sours don’t do the trick, the bartender just might.
That’s what Ben’s good at — the big stuff. He guesses a crying drunk girl qualifies.
Even when it turns out she’s not crying so much as she’s talking his ear off in some zoned-out state of personal crisis, Ben Ainsley can’t help but stick around to listen. He’s used to slinging drinks for toasted partygoers; but, truth is Murphy’s the only one who doesn’t irritate him into a half-hour smoke break.
He’s never been much for relationships, but this girl sure seems worth the try.
It only takes one day. Guess they’ll see where they are by the end of the night.
One night. Two run-ins at a supply closet. And just enough whiskey to shoot your shot.
(Featuring: cameo appearances by the JAILBAIT: Chase My Blues, Book 1 leads, Em and Ryder. It is not necessary to read that series to enjoy this one, or to read the books in any particular order.)

With the release of 2019’s critically applauded full-length debut, Useless Coordinates, Leeds-based experimental outfit Drahla — currently Luciel Brown (vocals, guitar), Ewan Barr (guitar), Rob Riggs (bass) and Mike Ainsley (drums) — exploded into the UK post punk and experimental rock scenes. The British quartet’s long-awaited sophomore album angeltape is slated for an April 5, 2024 release through Captured Tracks. Recorded with Matthew Benn and Jamie Lockhart last year, angeltape is reportedly an avant-garde document oft he events that unfolded over the course of the five-year gap between albums, which saw a variety of changes — both good and bad — that steered their professional and personal lives down unfamiliar territories. Of course, instead of succumbing to adversity, the band’s sophomore album sees the band re-emerging sounding creatively rejuvenated with deeply reflective perspectives. Over the last few years, the band’s members have suffered devastating losses and yet have expanded upon their sound with the addition of their newest member Ewan Barr. Inspired and informed by their recent experiences — collective and individual — the album features a considerably darker, tonally more complex and conceptual sound. The addition of Barr signaled a significant shift in the band’s dynamic and ultimately reshaped the way they approached their angular arrangements, with the band being feeling the freedom to experiment with form more than ever before. Brown, in particular embraced the opportunity to find different ways to inhabit her contemplative lyrics. Naturally, because of the band’s new lineup, there was a readjustment period when they convened to write angeltape — but it helped to kickstart a renewed creative approach. “There was an uncertainty and anxiety in not knowing how to rekindle what we had, and what we did have just didn’t exist in the same format,” Brown explains. “I feel this is apparent in the music; the constant changes, opposing ideas and structures, the overall energy and drive of the songs. I think there’s also the sense of reconnection, encouragement and freedom, too. There’s excitement borne from us finding something together again.” The album also draws some inspiration from the work of experimental rock outfit This Heat, but the band primarily found that their greatest motivation came from listening to and following one another throughout the writing and recording sessions. “I think the process and inspiration for this album has been way more experimental and insular than taking on any external musical references,” says Brown, “This record feels like it was built on a foundation of insular inspiration.” The band’s Rob Riggs adds, “When the four of us are in a room, we each bring separate things to the table. Sometimes, a session would start a little bit disjointed but then we find a way where we could all interlock together for a moment in a song and then disperse again.” Sonically, the album’s material is rooted in the interplay of driving bass riffs and charged drum patterns provide an uneasy yet captivating contrast to Brown’s melody sing-songy spoken delivery. The material is also heightened by searing saxophone contributions from the band’s longtime collaborator Chris Duffin. angeltape‘s third and lates single, the wild and expressionistic freakout “Grief In Phantasia” is a No Wave-inspired take on post punk — or maybe a post-punk-inspired take on No Wave — built around angular and scuzzy guitar lines, primal saxophone skronk and off-kilter yet forceful percussion serving as a tumultuously and uneasy bed for Brown’s melodic sing-songy and punchily melodic delivery. According to the band: “This song was informed by others on the record and those we’d written in the past. It felt like the closing track when we wrote it, as though it summarised the chaos and the calm of the album.” Drahla will also head out on tour across the EU and UK through May and June; their first since their European dates in 202...

I had to exorcise this drawing of my Bubblegumshoe character, Antone Postminger (they/he) from my body. Thank you early 3D Barbie movies and Jem and the Holograms, I couldn't have done it without you. 🙏
Antone is 17, obscenely wealthy, and morally bankrupt. He’s recently been kidnapped en route to his family’s Elite Equestrian Academy and is now forced to solve a mystery with small town miscreants Ainsley and The Gap.
Listen to Hrose (yes, hrose) Camp Adventures on @damesanddragons! 💙✨
This image was too powerful for twitter and so it dulled the colors down, but hopefully tumblr will be able to handle this level of highly saturated energy.

ao3!
The door dings cheerfully as Ainsley strides into the shop. The Gap is swift at their heels, like always.
It's nicely decorated, with bright colors, plants, and a variety of seating options. It's clean and well-lit and the food cases are beautifully organized. Macarons are lined up in a rainbow, neatly stacked against one another, and The Gap can just see cartons of pearls and jelly behind the counter from where they're standing. There are only two workers, one making a tea while the other rings up the customer in front of them. Ainsley's standing behind them, staring at the menu, and The Gap files behind Ainsley.
The customer finishes paying and receives their drink. Ainsley steps forward, not looking at the worker even as they greet them. The Gap feels a little bad, so they lean around Ainsley and wave to them.
"Hi!"
The worker — Sunny, she/they, their nametag reads — smiles at them. "Hello! Welcome to Tea-rrific!"
"Thank you!"
"Gappppppp," Ainsley whines. "I don't know what to getttttt."
The Gap hums and looks over the menu. It'd been a while, but they'd been here before, so if they could remember what Ainsley had gotten last time... oh! There! "How about honeydew milk tea?"
Ainsley does a sighing little hum. "I don't know... what if I don't like it?"
"You could always get strawberry?" The Gap offers. "But, I mean, you got that the last few times we came here."
"Strawberry's so basic, though..." Ainsley sighs. "And, like, did I? I literally don't remember ever coming here in my entire life."
"Yeah!" They don't come often enough for The Gap to really recognize the workers or anything, but they remember— "We sat on that loveseat and you almost spilled your cup over it, remember? And then you were worried they were gonna kick us out since you'd almost damaged their furniture?"
Ainsley snaps their fingers. "That's right! Oh my god, I remember now." They turn to Sunny. "Can I get a honeydew milk tea with strawberry pop pearls and extra sugar, please?"
"Sure!" She taps on a tablet, logging the order. "Will that be all?"
"Yeah."
"Alright!" Sunny reads off the total and Ainsley pays as the other worker begins making the drink. Ainsley takes a step to the side and pulls a green straw from the cup of them on the counter. "And for you?"
"Hi!" The Gap tells her. "Can I get a taro milk tea with coconut jelly, please? With less sugar?" They point to the little sign beside the straws, which lists how one can customize the amount of sugar in their drinks.
"No problem!" Sunny taps on the tablet. "Anything else?"
"A chocolate macaron and a strawberry one, please!"
They nod, tapping a few more times before they read off the total. The Gap reaches into their pocket and pulls out some cash, counting out what they need and handing it to her.
There's no one else in line, so The Gap shuffles closer to Ainsley just because they want to, rather than to get out of anyone else's way. Ainsley's gotten their tea now, and turned to lean against the counter and survey the seating options as The Gap gets their stuff. They get a green straw to match Ainsley, and thank Sunny as she hands them their macarons and tea.
"Have a tea-rrific day!" they tell them.
"Thanks, you too!"
"Thank youuuu," Ainsley calls, and grabs The Gap's wrist — carefully, since they're holding macarons — and pulls them over to a high-top table with cushions on its chairs. They set their drink down to hop up on their seat, and The Gap follows suit. They both unwrap their straws and hover them over their cups.
"Threetwoonego!"
They slam their straws down and sip their teas. Ainsley just barely finishes first, throwing their arms up and screeching in victory. The Gap pouts a little, but they're grinning too widely to even pretend to be upset by their loss.
"So?" they ask. "How is it?"
"Delicious. Thank you, The Gap, I don't know what I do without you."
"Me neither!" The Gap beams at Ainsley. "I love you!"
"I love you too."
The Gap leans over to give them a forehead kiss, but the table is wide enough that they can't reach sitting down. And the seats are high enough that trying to give Ainsley a kiss standing next to them would still be annoying to stretch up and do, so they clamber over the table — just a little bit! — to reach Ainsley.
"Mwah!"
"Awwww, The Gap..." Ainsley delicately kisses The Gap's cheek. They immediately look away and take another sip of their tea, cheeks dusting over with pink. The Gap beams again and sits back in their chair.
They pull their macarons out of the wrapper and hand the strawberry one to Ainsley. They break the chocolate one in half and Ainsley does the same with the strawberry, and they switch halves. They eat in silence; Ainsley is still a bit flustered and The Gap is happy to just sit with them.
After the macarons are gone, The Gap silently offers their cup to Ainsley and they switch cups, trying each other's drinks. Ainsley's is pure tooth-rotting sweetness, and The Gap wrinkles their nose a bit. There's a reason they'd asked for less sugar in their tea.
Ainsley smacks their lips thoughtfully. "Like... it's pretty good, but it could be, like, a bit sweeter." They hand The Gap's drink back, and The Gap passes theirs back to them, laughing.
"Yours is pretty sweet, Ainsley!"
"I know, right?" Ainsley sounds almost proud of it as they take a sip of their tea, humming happily at the taste. The Gap laughs fondly.
The door dings as another customer comes in, and The Gap remembers there are other people here besides themself and Ainsley. They're almost startled by it, and a little embarrassed at being startled, and suddenly uncomfortable here.
"You wanna go?" they ask Ainsley, looking over at the door and back to them. "We can check out the other shops."
"Sure." They hop down from their chairs, and The Gap gathers their trash and throws it away.
The door dings as they leave, like it's telling them goodbye. The Gap hums back, feeling more settled with Ainsley by their side. They lace their fingers with Ainsley's and squeeze lightly, and Ainsley squeezes back, and they're out of there.
