Skincare is indeed effective!!
Welcome back to Tannie's blog again! Ta da~
Long time no post..ahh..I know..I got busy with some emotional and study stuffs..but yet I am back cause I hv had to share u this!
Now u probably came to know what I wanted to share cause of my blog title..
I would say According to me I was the only girl in the whole planet who doesn't know about skincare even though I am 18..damn..unbelievable right..
For me skincare was just..allovera gel before sleep and wash it in the morning. Thats it!! Uhh..well it did work but it would take like alott of time..
I did used to see alot of skincare stuffs that came on instagram or youtube and used to buy it but I didn't knew how to use it or when to use it or how much to use it..what if it creats a reaction with other cream. And because of all these suspiciousness I used to buy it but it would always stay in my cupboard unused..
But oops! look at the fate..
In December, I guess I got reaction from some cream and my whole face was covered with faint spots. My parents being the guide started giving in their methods cause they are like always into improving me and I love that. They started their skincare on me, it was all natural like multani mitti, some Patanjali cream and stuffs, etc etc..and soon my face was clear but there were some spots on my cheeks and they were red and collective, and they were like on my upper cheeks and even after trying so many methods..it just never goes away!
Now soon I was soo determined that I have to remove this spots from my upper cheeks and then I started giving the skincares on my fy pages of many social medias a try. To be honest I surely did a lot of research and I found a combination of skincare routine which was common in most of the videos..but still its the internet world, we cant blindly trust everything. So I approached my bestfriend for this and she guide me that it was the correct one, I even went to alot of the other friends and some of them are very sure that they work since they hv experimented it on themselves and it turned out to be a success! So i went with that routine
I didn't knew much of the skincare products so I just picked the popular one and that was

Cleanse your face with the cleanser and wash it properly! Cause Not cleansing properly may cause you breakouts.
Pat your face dry! Dont rub it or else it will hurt and make your skin extra sensitive. Pat or dab it dry slowly with a clean towel.
Take a small amount of toner and Apply it by patting it on your face with your clean hands and fingers or you can use cotton always. And wait for it to air dry.
Then apply moisturizer on your face after the toner is air dry.
Thats it!
Make sure you guys remain clean with your hands and finger. Be aware of your allergies too!

I am coming out of the temple drunk. I have no doubts about it anymore. The morning meditations are taking place at the Main Shrine, Ramkrishna Mission, Khar, Mumbai. I have been entering the temple alert to my tasks at hand and my immediate environment. However, I have been coming out of the shrine and meditation drunk on life energies.
More than 2 decades back, while reading Swami Vivekananda’s interpretation of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the bits about meditational energy were difficult to understand. Only experience can make one nod in agreement with regards some meditational literature.
What I experience now is mentioned in Swami Vivekananda’s and Paramahansa Yogananda’s works. However, the experience of it continues to be a novelty. Allow me to begin my next sentence with: ‘Who knew’.
Who knew that practicing a calming technique will bring about a freeing of life running energies. Who knew that these energies have different points of withdrawal from the surface of one’s body. Who knew that a certain section of the route of withdrawal goes from the tail of the spine to the head. Who knew that in the head these blessed energies are perceived as Peace by the mind.
Who knew that when Peace fills the mind, it is a heady experience. Life energies brimming in the head are perceived as Peace shots by the mind. I am not drinking a diluted (read distracted) version of Peace any more. These are several shots taken neat and in quick succession.
I have to sit several minutes after I finish meditation. I walk slowly for a while. I am unable to bring to my attention what lies next in my day’s schedule. It’s bizarrely beautiful. It’s a blessing I wouldn’t want rolled back.

The Yoga Sutras and Jyotish

Namaste,
The Yoga Sutras (some call Yoga Darśana) of Patanjali muni have been discussed on a another post. I thought to add this post on the correlation of his works by chapter and their significance from a Jyotish perspective.
The Yoga Sutras has 4 chapters:
Samadhi pada
Sadhana pada
Vibuthi pada
Kevala pada
It is of great interest to me that these are laid out sequentially and there are 4 chapters. Why not a triad, the traditional 3 that has multiple meanings thought-out Vedic literature? Or why not 5 padas? Let see how this unfolds.
Samadhi pada
The first chapter is aligned with the 1st house of the birth chart. The karaka of the 1st house is the Sun (surya) and is the natural Atmakaraka ( indicator of the Atman, soul) and is all about brightness, the Atman, etc. The 1st house is also a dharma house. The alignment of ultimate dharma is that of Moksha and it is with the light of Surya that it begins.
Within Patanjali's 1st chapter he discusses the natural state of the sadhu and how the seer abides in Itself.
The Seer is pure consciousness and when the Seer abides in itself there is liberation for the sadhu ( sutra 1.3 is being referenced here). Like the 1st house of ones jama-kundali ( birth chart), it is the Atman abiding in Itself and recognized itSELF that brings kevalya. A nice alignment of Patanjali-ji with Jyotish principles.
Sadhana pada
The 2nd chapter of Patanjali has much to do with practice. That is tapas, svadhya, Ῑśvara pranidhāna i.e. kriyā yoga. This whole 2nd chapter aligns nicely to the 2nd bhava ( house) for learning, welfare, and self efforts. The wealth from tapas and self effort is gained.
The 2nd house is an Artha house, one of wealth. We think of monetary wealth, yet along the way to kevalya, spiritual wealth plays more and more of a role in ones life. The karaka of the 2nd house is Jupiter ( Guru). He is associated with gains, learning, achievements, religion no doubt, intelligence the association with a guru, and control over the senses.
Vibuthi pada
The 3rd chapter is about siddhi and the method of samyama. Note that this comes 3rd. After establishing a firm foundation of discipline and understanding who the seer really is, the various practices, found in chapters 1 and 2. But what is interesting to me is why Patanjali chose to call the 3rd chapter Vibhuthi pada.
We know vibhuthi as sacred ash used on the forehead (tilaka). This vibhuthi or विभूति is also the manifestation of might , superhuman ability, and successful issue. This is why Patanjali picked this as the name for his 3rd chapter. It is with siddhi that success and the manifestation of new abilities arise.
The 3rd house has many indications, it is a house of strength, patience and perseverance. It’s a house of advancement which aligns to the development of siddhis. This house is a kama house, that of desires, and fulfilling them. It is by our siddhi (skill in action) in our present level of being that we too fulfill desires.
The karkaka of the 3rd house is Mars. Mars is courage. Mars is also Hanumanji. We hear of Hanumanji's siddhi performance in the Ramayama with Sri Ram, and also in the Mahabharata e.g. becoming large and small, going up to and touching the sun, flying and/or jumping large distances such as to Sri Lanka. Hanumanji owned these abilities, these siddhis and used them accordingly.
Kevala pada
The 4th chapter is all about Kevela or Liberation. How one is liberated even in this lifetime. As is the 4th house in ones chart it is the 1st moksha house ( or bhava) found in the chart and is repeated in the 8th and the 12th bhavas (houses).
The 4th chapter is the result of what takes place in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd chapters. Now the 4th house is a natural Moksha ( Liberation) house. The natural Moksha-karaka is Ketu. The one with no head. People also associate Ganesha with Ketu, as he too had his head cut off ( that of mundane life, the ego, all that) and Ganesha being associated with Moksha.
The 4th house is also a house of the home, owned by Moon (Chandra). Like Moksha, the native is coming home to who he/she really is, the seer, pure consciousness. The 4th house associated with Moon and home, is therefore also associated with peace of mind (moon) at home. I have been told that when one resides in kevalya, all places one may travel is like being at home, because home now resides in you.
Via Moksha, peace of mind is steady and resides in the SELF. The 4th house is also considered the 'throne of judgment' as it receives rasi dristi from the highest point in the chart, that of the 10th house, where the sun at its highest point in the day resides and gives rasi dristi to the 4th house.
Now in Patanjali's 4th chapter, His key sutra ( for me) is 4.25. for one who has realized the distinctive specialty of Purusa ( the SELF) the search for the nature of his SELF ceases. That is, the sadhu has then arrived.
Patanjali then says in sutra 4.29 - On being dis-interested even in omniscience acquired through discriminative knowledge, the all-round discriminative knowledge that ensues, brings about the level of Being known as dharma mega ( or cloud pouring virtue).
This is to say, the sadhu is secure in him-herSELF. This is no appetite for siddhis, for even omniscience, due to all the latent impressions (vasanas) being destroyed like a seed roasted in a fire (Patanjali's metaphor from a few chapters back).
So, with the 4th house ( Moksha bhava) and the 4th Chapter (Kevala pada) the sadhu reaches the source, and brings peace and fullness (Bhuma) to him/herself.
It is with the four aims of life Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha that the brilliance of Patanjali shines though. It is these 4 goals that the birth chart is also composed of: 3 Dharma + 3 Artha + 3 Kama +3 Moksha = 12 bhava or 12 houses in ones chart. Now , why 3? ... perhaps it shows past, present and future.

The Science & Magic of Mantra
Meaning: The one who gives life to the mind, avoids it, refines it, rejuvenates it, which is the mantra.
Just as there is a rule of ragas (Melodies), a fixed technique, a definite time, a vowel; similarly there are definite deities of mantras, there are definite elements, and there are definite appropriations and releases. Without their correct pronunciation, the worship of mantras can never be successful.
The second important point is that just as the seeker of a raga, gradually purifying his vocal system, awakens his speech power and engages his mind in it, and creates the beauty of the raga; in the same way, the seeker of mantra should also do the spiritual practice of speech, the inner harmony of the deity element and their deep understanding. Relentless efforts, unbroken rules, and fixed time for chanting mantras are its essential elements. By doing this the seeker becomes perfect.

Mantra Siddhi is a miracle, magic. There is such a power in the mantra, in that the mantra gets absorbed in the seeker and the body, mind and soul of the seeker become devoted to the mantra. In this situation, the seeker becomes a seer of the mantra, that is, the seeker sees the mantra and its secret.
The important thing is that if for some reason the seeker is not able to attain the ultimate path of the mantra in this life and continues on that path till his last breath, then in his new birth, the cycle of mantra begins from the same situation, because the signs of chanting the mantra are physical. They are not mortal-like things and do not perish along with the body.
Science says that energy waves emerge from sound in the world. Sound is the basic thing in the world. The Vedas have called the sound Brahma. Brahma means expanding. Sound is an energy and it has a natural ability to expand.
A mantra is a set of some such sounds from which a particular type of energy waves harmonize together with powerful force. An organized energy field develops from this special rotational alternation. This energy leaves an effect not only on people but also on things. So, if we go through the scientific theory of sound, then reciting continuously a particular word leaves an impact on the soul of an individual. This helps in recovering from many issues and problems.

Patanjali says that the four voices gradually turn from gross to subtle. When a seeker chants aloud in the initial stage, it is called Vaachik Jaap. After being proficient in this comes the second stage of Upanshu chanting. It is pronounced in a very slow voice. According to Patanjali, this is the use of Madhyama speech. After this the steps become very subtle, which is called ajapa, it is just watching the chanting going on within oneself. Patanjali calls it Pashyanti. In this situation, the seeker remains a witness or a spectator of the mantra chanting going on within him.

UNDERSTANDING DHARANA

Depth:
After 5 straight days of my meditation-duration increasing, last night saw a drop. I have mentioned in yesterday’s blog entry that there are signs of another depth of concentration coming up. I have also mentioned that a somewhat shallow level of concentration usually results in a shorter than average duration. Strangely, that drop happened only last night and not the night before.
Last two nights, I have experienced a concentration that’s slightly lower than my best. There is another way in which I can say that. My attention didn’t travel to those depths of my mind that it has travelled to previously. My attention remained in a depth that has been covered or assumed as overcome right before arriving at my present best depth.
There was a time when taking one step back, after taking two forward, would frustrate me. Such back stepped meditation sessions would frustrate. I realised something yesterday that I must share.
Why does ‘Dharana’ meaning ‘Concentration’ come as late as step 6 in Sage Patanjali’s 8 fold path for yoga? Don’t the first 5 steps require concentration? Of course, they do. One can’t establish any part of the first 5 steps without some degree of concentration. In fact, a meditation practice will ease the process of committing to the 8-fold path. It will also ease the movement forward towards the summit of all meditations, Samadhi.
So why is there a dedicated stage called ‘Concentration’ on the 8 fold path? And why does it come so late at number 6?
It has to do with the nature of human mind. Right from the level of the waking, rational, conscious mind till the mid level stages of one’s intuition, there is a pattern in which one’s attention is caught with imagery. I’ll make a short description of the levels of mind that I have traversed, hopefully irreversibly.
There is the shallow conscious mind. Things-to-do lists and analysis of life problems have been the major distraction while my attention meditated here. With great conscious calmness comes the great subconscious.
Subconscious is muscular. Desires are woven into memories to create entertaining and colourful dream imagery. With even greater calmness, one overcomes the subconscious and enters the intuition.
The pattern of calming the mind through all the stages up till intuition, is peculiar. The imagery will, in alternate phases be well spaced and cluttered. Conscious cluttered thoughts will lead to the conscious calm. Cluttered subconscious will go to the calm subconscious.
There is also some such thing as the intuitive clutter. I have experienced this. I believe I have been experiencing the intuitive clutter of imagery for 2 years now. One can’t recall any of this imagery because the faculty of intuition is somewhat distanced from the faculty of memory.
It is entirely likely that an irreversible decluttered stage doesn’t come until the attention has reached mid-intuition. ‘Fixity of attention’ or ‘Dharana’ is not possible in mind levels shallower than mid-intuition. Of course, by the time one reaches this decluttered stage, it is a relief to have arrived at it.
It is the clutter or mental chatter against one’s will that is being hushed with every meditation session. Imagine meditating for decades and not being successful in undoing mental clutter. No matter how peaceful and pretty the imagery be, if it isn’t according to one’s wishes, it is unnecessary clutter. That’s me. Maybe, that’s every meditator out there.
Increasing calmness resulting in Peace makes it possible to tolerate an undesirable pace of thoughts. Fixity of attention is not possible until one’s intuition shows signs of calming.
From experience, I understand that intuitive level of concentration comes when one’s spinal energy has been stirred. Intuition begins calming only when spinal energies rise enough to make regular entries inside the head.
