I live for the Norman Ratri theory! Especially because I like to believe that Norman and Adam are related-- this creates a convoluted family tree LOL Think about it~! The Lambda facility was of great importance to Peter during his time as head of the Ratri clan. What would it take for him to think that a Ratri-- someone related to him-- would be the perfect building blocks for creating new children. Perfect children in his perfect system? Did a lady related to the Ratris (by marriage or worse) try to escape the lineage and Peter decided to disown her children in the worst way possible? By throwing one child into the Lambda system and another child to the cattle? Of course he would assume that the Ratri are perfect so if you want to create a new batch of children who would be the building blocks of his new world order-- well I guess use a Ratri, am I right? Which makes it even worse when Adam was considered to be a failure. Peter was probably the one who decided to send Adam to Goldy Pond.

Prefacing this with something I've mentioned in tags before: I remember after initially reading the manga thinking the Norman Ratri theory was adding too much to Norman's deck. He was already special for being a genius capable of 100% tests at four-years-old that stumped kids twice and triple his age, so to then make him even more special by being biologically related to the Ratris in some way seemed like overkill in addition to everything having to do with him taking up the mantle of Minerva and having the conflict with Ayshe that was conveniently sidestepped. (Yes, Emma's origins are never a conflict for her, but with how often lineage is prioritized for men in media, it would leave me mixed how out of the trio, Emma would be the only one with nothing like that causing her some internal strife since Ray's biological relationship with Isabella clearly brought him grief.)

That said, outside the bounds of canon or if canon were expanded upon and tweaked to give each member of the trio an internal conflict of similar weight, I'm also very, very big on the theory lol

Despite being the one to unperson James and order his death before he even turned sixteen, I still have trouble wrapping my head around the idea of Peter knowingly and willingly doing this to a Ratri child on the basis of viewing them as an extension of the clan rather than as individuals, so it's almost like it's a worse reflection on him not being able to restore the honor of this wayward branch of it by "salvaging" the traitor's children and raising them "correctly." He places so much value in being a Ratri and displays such disdain when speaking of the cattle children as food, it's hard to see him sullying the line in any way by condemning a member to the fate of the latter as opposed to just outright killing them, even if said member was an infant. That's still Ratri blood—his blood—that would be going into the farm system, and he would never let anyone as lowly as food have any sort of claim to such a noble and prestigious status.

But maybe James' betrayal really burned him, and while he once wouldn't consider this, now he's more caustic, brash, prone to lashing out, intoxicated on his newly bestowed position as the head of the clan and using it to indulge his more volatile impulses, that he goes through with this idea.

However, I'm more inclined to entertain the idea of another family member taking advantage of their position as a Ratri to have a dalliance with a Sister candidate, as @officersnickers brings up in this post. It's not something Peter would ever approve of, but what's done is done, and importantly there was no explicit denouncement of the clan in this act, which I feel he would take personal offense to. There's nothing he can do to save these children—the one-drop rule thoroughly entrenched in his mind, and their blood is thoroughly tainted—but maybe their Ratri lineage will win out and they'll be able to rise above their pitiful status, so he does keep tabs on both as he approves of them being sent on their separate ways in the system.

Which makes it even worse when Adam was considered to be a failure. Peter was probably the one who decided to send Adam to Goldy Pond.

He probably approved this with a spiteful flourish too, insulted that his theory proved wrong, that Adam wasn't able to live up to whatever arbitrary, narrow standards they set for him to determine his value as a living being.

182 Days of TPN - Day 168

Chapter 168: "Dad"

I know this is the same room Isabella & Peter were seen having their discussion in back during ch165, but to just have two plain chairs in such a large, empty room seems so extra. Regardless of that, I do like the panel of the trio here, even though they're surprised to find no one here due to the fake footage Peter fooled Vincent with that lead them there.

Dunno how all the kiddos are hearing Peter's message since the teams seem to only have one person with a communication device but whatever. Perhaps he's speaking loud enough for everyone to hear.

Although I have a hard time believing the Ratri men were able to tie up the Adam clones without a fight, I guess anyone will yield once you hold them at gunpoint. Also, the absence of Hayato in this panel is a nice hint to his role next chapter.

While the demon guards don't cause much of a problem during the rest of the story, it still would've been better if the kids killed them off instead of put them to sleep. I get that they didn't wanna kill if they didn't have to, but it would've been one less thing to worry about. Hearing about Sonju & Mujika's execution definitely adds to the stress. Not as much as their deaths could have, but we're thankful Peter was stupid enough to actually wait three days.

Along with all the citizens who drank the evil blood being killed, the Ratri clan and the higher-up demons taking control of the government, let's add the plan to assemble a ton of new Lambda farm into the mix as well. Talk about a big time panic. The premium farms don't sound so bad now huh?

Oh Vincent, you dunno these kids as well as you thought if you honestly believe they would shoot the adults in front of them. Emma, Ray, Don & Gillian couldn't manage to fire a shot at Andrew back when he held Dominic & Alicia hostage after the shelter raid. You're best bet would've been Oliver. This goes back to that old post of mine wondering who, among the kids, would be able to shoot at another human, but I still believe Ray could manage it, if only as a last resort.

The thought of Norman firing at another person was always a toss up for me though. Of course he showed no mercy towards demons during this WM phase, so even with the clear difference between demon and human, I wouldn't have been completely surprised if that cold persona of his came back with a vengeance once he heard Vincent get shot. Peter's been a thorn in Norman side ever since Lambda, so having this bastard personally hurt one of his friends just adds fuel to the fire. Norman (& Ray) did often mention taking down Isabella & Krone back during their GF days if they wanted to escape successfully, so they have level of brutality, it's just been real lowkey. Thankfully none of the children need to get blood on their hands. They've suffered enough already.

Please never say those words with your mouth. No one in this world considers you as that.

Hell yeah Oliver, let him know what's up!! I love that he, Zack & Gillian feel so strongly about the word "dad" because of the relationship they had with Lucas. The same can be said about Ayshe & her father but I can ramble more about all that next chapter.

I mean, in context, it's pretty serious, but thanks to a silly edit I've made years ago, I can't look at this panel anymore and not laugh like an idiot. So, now's the perfect time to upgrade it from a noticeable bad edit I made in the car on my phone once upon a time to something more worthy to use every time I lose my mind.

James Ratri Headcanons👑

(because he got like 2 fans out in this world and I’m the hugest)

he was born November 3rd 2001

due to him accompanying his father from a young age to charity events and public appearances in the name of his family, he did meet Smee as a young boy in an orphanage the Ratri had funded (yes, the normal kind of orphanage, this time)

James and Smee had a fun afternoon playing around and chatting about the book they surprisingly both did read at that time: Peter Pan

the two boys couldn’t stop giggling when realizing they shared the names of the villain, Captain James Hook, and his underling, Smee

due to their different upbringings, they wouldn’t meet each other for years, but occasionally, James would remember the nice orphan boy with glasses who was named like a pirate and wonder what did become of him

they would see each other decades later in university, where James was studying Politics at this time and Smee just got a scholarship for his studies in Biology and Medicine

James is the most chaotic and messy person you can imagine. You could let him sit for ten minutes in a completely empty room and when he leaves, you would have to tidy for hours nonetheless

self-righteous, a way too firm moral backbone, a pain in the ass if he wants to - that’s how family and close insider would characterize James in secret

at the same time they would tell you James is the most generous, peace seeking and pleasant guy to be around

James was a rather lonely child without any friends due to his family’s function of being the Gatekeepers of two worlds. Most time he was surrounded by adults like bodyguards, private teachers or politicians his father had to interact with on a weekly basis

when his parents had their second child, James gave them the idea to name the boy Peter, due to Peter Pan still being his favourite book despite being already a teenager at the time Peter was born

fearing Peter would grow up lonely too, James tried to spend as much time as possible with his younger brother. Their father was occupied with work and their mother rather distant, but James was always there for him whenever Peter would be in need of someone to be with him

their parents died when James hadn’t reached the legal age yet, but became head of the Ratri clan nevertheless. Different branches tried to take his position in secret or influence the still grieving young man in their favour, but James did stay adamant in his ways of leading the family. Only to Peter he could show weak he really did feel and that he missed their parents as well as their advice more than he could have had ever imagine before

a lot of women (and men too) did try to woe him, but James never really showed any interest in romance or having an heir of his own one day; it’s not like he doesn’t like children or want to have them in the future, but the mere act of creating them gives him the hives 🧡💛🤍💙

when all his supporters in liberating the cattle children warned him of Peter’s betrayal, James wouldn’t believe it till it was literally too late. No bullet in the back or water flooding his lungs could have hurt as much as realizing his dear little brother would want to sabotage him

despite being the first born and successor of his father, James was often called „the silver prince“ among his family, due to his silvery hair and clothing style, while Peter was „the golden prince“, because of his hair being more golden and silky

I think all your theories might come true. You were right about zazie it reveals he is five and Phil is older than him in the volume 14 extras. So zazie can't be Leslie.

I don't think I could possibly be right about everything. Shirai-san is very good at coming up with unexpected twists...

So I think it's very difficult to get all predictions right, but at the same time, his plot is also extremly consistent. So if you think logically, it is easy to clear up some things.

Due to the timeline of lambda not even existing in plans when Leslie was shipped, I found that theory extremly unlikely. I was happy that it finally got debunked by the omake! Proves that Shirai is consistent with the timeline.

I guess the rapid growth must have had a big strain on Zazie's psychological development. However, his real age is a big plus for my other theory on Zazie...

Where he is the final, perfected version of a series of genetic engineering experiments in lambda to create easily controlled superhumans that started with Adam.

In that theory the first generation test subjects would have names starting with A, like Adam and the last series of tests with Z, like Zazie.

That theory would require Adam to be one of the oldest experiment subjects at lambda, and Zazie to be one of the youngest, which fits with him being 5.

Also, if they really went through the alphabet from A to Z in naming the various genetic experiment subjects, that may explain why Norman's group has so many clone looking people...

Notice that all of these clones look suspiciously like Adam, and Norman.

I know a lot of people assumed that they may be used by Norman as cannon fodder, or even that they have been created by Norman as an army....

However, wouldn't it be a much neater explanation if they were all the different series of genetic experiments by lambda to create superhuman soldiers, but now used against those who created them?

I still think Norman may be the control subject in the experiment, the one person kept and raised in conditions as normal as possible, to be a basis for comparison.

Whereas everyone else had growth acceleration experiments etc done to them on top of the genetics.

In any case, I think the resemblance is way too much to be a coincidence, and Zazie's face may be obscured to hide the surprise of looking like Norman too.

I wonder if it is down to genetic relation to control these super soldiers, since then it makes sense for Norman to be so good at controlling them.

That would also mean that it would have made sense for Peter Ratri to use his own genes for the study, if he wanted to take control of them later. Which ofc would explain why Norman looks so much like a Ratri...

Can't wait to see how this theory works out!

While executing GP, Shirai didn't realize how cool he was making Emma; he says that only after reading those chapters he realized how cool Emma had turned out to be :')

When Shirai can't come up with names for new characters, he goes through the credits of his DVDs. Jake and Monica are respectively after Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan.

Jake and Monica's deaths somehow parallel Conny's, being used to give a feeling of urgent danger

Demizu was asked to take Food Wars as reference for demons' meat in chapter 68

Shirai says that if Norman had been in GP, Lewis would never be bored 👀

The GP kids designs were set very quickly, and Gillian and Paula's designs took inspo from Barbara and Ayshe's early drafts. Honestly, I think it's incredible they turned out so good even with a short notice!!

The human world can be reached going up with GP's elevator, or going down with GF's staircase. GP's elevator takes to a forest in Australia. It's such a cool fact, I'm so sad we never saw the children actually cross those passages!!!

Shirai confirmed that James and Peter Ratri were named after James Hook and Peter Pan. I find it so interesting that from the Peter Pan tale, Shirai reversed the hero / villain roles!! The name “Ratri” on the other hand is taken from the night goddess of Indian mythology, and can be associated with “guardians”.

The comouflage of each farm is different!! Grace Field is "a happy orphanage playing family inside the House", Glory Bell is "like a town", Grand Valley and Goodwell Ridge are "school-like facilities". The caretakers names change accordingly.

Grace Field is the smallest farm that specializes in the development of brains. Glory Bell focuses on physical development along with the brain. Grand Valley and Goodwell Ridge have average quality brain and meat. I think we can say that the farm's meat quality order is similar to this: GF > GB > GV = GR

Max. shipping ages for the farms we know of are: GF = 12; GB = 15; GV = 17

Only Grace Field children have a transmitter. The children from Goldy Pond and Grand Valley didn't need to disable anything to escape.

Grand Valley can't afford to spend a lot of money per product like Grace Field, so they close the sky to prevent escape or theft and made an artificial sky like a big dome.

Peter offered Bayon to use GP as hunting ground “also to dispose of the escaped children” which makes me think... Apparently in other farms is pretty common to have children escape lmao. (Unless they're only taking about Yuugo's group escapees)

Compared to Grace Field, the children from Grand Valley and Glory Bell have more opportunities to come in contact with electronic devices. Nigel was familiar with machines since his times in Grand Valley.

Demons' optical nerve is particularly weak; masks' function is not only to prevent it from being hit, but also to shield it from direct light.

Shirai said he doesn't want to impose the author's ideals onto the readers, but he drew TPN with the thought that he didn't want a war

In Goldy Pond, Shirai prioritized developing demons over humans

Shirai said that “analyzing the demons as living things and not as monsters created a chance to win [against Lewis]” which is honestly very deep and interesting

Shirai thinks the reason why TPN's children are all kind and friendly is that Posuka draws them, and Sugita said that the children drawn by Posuka have nothing evil in them. I'm (╥﹏╥)

“Ugo” was a candidate for Yugo's name: Shirai had a concept where Yugo noticed a book with his name (Ugo's Adventures) which eventually triggered their escape. This is such a cool idea, I'm actually sorry it didn't go like this?

Another candidate for Yuugo's name was George - like the director - suggested by Sugita because Yuugo's friends with Lucas. However, Shirai insisted it would have been rude to George Lucas, so they ultimately went for Yuugo (imagine having not one but 2 TPN characters named after you... Had I been in George Lucas' place, I'd be honored)

Yuugo is repeatedly refered as tsundere which is honestly hilarious

The release of every cattle child in the demon world was unplanned, but came as a natural consequence of Emma's character development

Shirai said that Emma is “easy to be misunderstood”. Couldn't agree with you more king.

It's not common to eat a loved one's brain when they die; Nous eating Nouma was an exception.

The cause of Yuugo's gray hair is canonly the stress (lol)

All the new info about the windmill boy!!!!!!!!!:

He was a coward, and that's why he was cautious. He found the underground pit while searching for a place to hide. He didn’t want to take the risk of being found by demons. So he couldn’t let anyone know of this place and piled up his guilt and pain. He found Lucas injured and on brink of death. Normally he wouldn’t do anything, but feeling guilty about everyone who he'd abandoned so far, he wanted to help. Yugo and Lucas were the heroes and hopes for the hunting ground children at that time. So, the kid knew Lucas. He wanted to heal Lucas for an opportunity of rebellion. Although he died of illness, to Lucas, the boy was one of his dear friends.

Violet was the one who brought in Adam to Oliver and others: that's because, besides from his incredible strength, she “instinctively felt that he was a good guy” :')

Adam’s true age...?

In December, the profiles for all the characters in TPN were revealed. They included basic facts such as birthday, age, and favorite food. But while all the Goldy Pond and Lambda children had their birthdays and ages revealed... whether it was intentional or not, Adam was the [only] child left who didn’t have a birthday nor finite age listed. 

His birthday is listed as “???” while his age [in 2046] was listed as “XX”

So why is Adam’s information being kept a secret? Maybe there is some importance to his birthday and age which would spoil a big secret if it were revealed? Or maybe Shirai is saving the reveal for a side chapter? 

Regardless of the reason, I wanted to attempt to calculate Adam’s true age based on the information that we already know in the timeline.

The first point that Lambda is mentioned in the story is when Emma and Lucas are looking at the files and information left behind by James Ratri.

These files list Lambda as a “brand new farm” that is intended to be constructed. So at the time of James’ death, Lambda had not been built but was in the process of being constructed within the near future.

James’ recording on the phone is dated at May 20th, 2031.

So we can conclude that Lambda was not built before 2031.

Later on, we witness Peter meeting with Lord Bayon and they have a discussion regarding Goldy Pond. This discussion took place in September 2031, a few months after James’ recording. 

At that point in time, James’ corpse had yet to be found. But as we know, it wouldn’t take much longer before it was found... 

But during Peter’s and Lord Bayon’s discussion, they also bring up the topic of the new experimental farm. With Bayon’s funding, Peter is able to start construction on Lambda.

So we can conclude that Lambda is funded for its construction in September 2031.

But exactly when is Lambda constructed? Based on these dates, we can come to the conclusion that Lambda was built in the near future after September 2031.

Considering the length of time that it would take to complete the project, it is likely that Lambda was finished between the years 2033-2034.

So we can conclude that Lambda was completed between 2033-2034.

Of course, the big question-- what about Adam?

How does he fit into this timeline? 

Well it doesn’t take much to come to the assumption that Adam... was very [likely] the first child experimented on in Lambda after its completion. 

After all, why else would he be named “Adam” if it were not intended to be a reference to the first man that God created? 

And Shirai certainly hasn’t dispelled these references neither... he even listed “apples” as Adam’s favorite food. Apples are often the go-to fruit for people to envision when they think of the forbidden fruit that Adam shared with Eve.

In this case, “God” is Lambda and Adam is the first child experimented by Lambda. So we can come to the conclusion that Adam is likely the first child.

But if he is the first child then... how old is he?

Adam is very [likely] as old as Lambda. 

And if Lambda was built somewhere between 2033-2034... then that would make sense to keep Adam’s age as a secret.

Emma, Ray, and Norman were born in 2034. 

It is very possible that Adam is the same age as a trio.

But if this is true, then it would mean that Adam is the oldest child born at Lambda. Compared to the ages of Zazie, Hayato, and Jin... Adam would be much older.

Of course...

If Lambda was literally just completed between 2033-2034, then they likely wouldn’t have the technology ready and at hand for creating human life... within the same year of its completion.

So if this is true then...

Adam might not have been born at Lambda.

Now that would be a shocking twist. I would understand why Shirai would want to keep it a secret.

I have felt nothing but pure anger at tpn season 2 and I've ranted about it these past few days to friends long enough. Time to make a post about it.

It's under the cut so I don't take up y'all's dashes. Also spoilers

OKAY SO FIRST OFF. Cutting Yuugo from the story was literally one of the worst changes to possibly make to the story. Yuugo is absolutely essential to multiple amazing arcs, introducing some of the best characters, character growth in and of itself, core story elements, and development of both the story, timeline, and characters. Now that he's gone, so many necessary parts of the puzzle are missing and nothing feels right anymore. Even if they try and write back in the characters, none of it wI'll work and it will all be messed up. Yuugo can't get attached to the kids and become a father figure. He can't bring Emma and Ray out hunting only for Emma to get taken to Goldy Pond. He can't confirm the existence of other humans. He and Lucas will never sacrifice themselves at the bunker, causing an emotional moment for the main kids. The Goldy Pond kids can't travel with the Gracefield kids and help them out in ways they can't on their own. Adam doesn't mumble Norman's number, hinting to the kids that Norman is still alive. So many things can't happen now and it makes me fucking sick.

On another note, there's something that seriously bothers me in what was animated. Mujika (Musica, according to the manga translation I read) doesn't tell Emma about the Seven Walls. Do they have any idea how fucking important the Seven Walls are? Should The Promised Neverland just be called The Neverland now? Without the Seven Walls, there may be no promise to reforge, and the plot will change completely.

There's also the fact that they discovered everything in the bunker within what, a day? The piano thing was supposed to be something that only Yuugo and Lucas knew about. It was supposed to be this big thing that Yuugo trusted the kids with. It wasn't supposed to be easily discovered. The phone call thing had to be something that they looked at clue after clue for, something that took time and years of thinking and connecting the dots to come true. The Bunker Attack wasn't supposed to happen within a day, there had to be buildup and suspense and foreshadowing all leading up to the Ratri Clan pinpointing their location.

Don't get me fucking started on Norman. He wasn't supposed to be revealed within 5 episodes after they try to rush through every arc beforehand. There was supposed to be all the tension and anticipation and mystery and surprise and impact when he was revealed to still be alive and well and thriving. Now he's just...there. He suddenly appears and it's like "oh shit I guess Norman isn't dead?" Instead of any "HOLY SHIT NORMAN!! THAT WAS YOU?? HOLY FUCK I DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE" I feel like there's no excitement left in his return. Everything beforehand feels tedious too. So much buildup and worldbuilding happens during things like the Bunker Arc and the Goldy Pond Arc. So much hinting and foreshadowing. Now that doesn't happen and his reveal just feels expected and nothing like an impactful surprise that everything was extremely obviously leading up to.

There's so much more regarding my thoughts on these changes, but for now I can't put them into words.

Why is it so hard to just go along with the fucking Manga.

Credit to @standreamy for putting together this amazing maxi relationship chart in not just one but two versions (found here; tweaked a bit with the orange category because there's a lot of dynamics I'm interested in that I feel didn't fall into BrOTP or any of the other ones).

Notes on some of them under the cut:

• I originally binged the manga in three days so I didn't pick up on it as much the first time, but going back I appreciate the brief focus given to Geelan and the second Lord Bayon.

• I also appreciate how the anime's director (Mamoru Kanbe) made the conscious effort to incorporate background relationships like Mark & Naila in the anime and would be interested in seeing how their relationship would change and evolve in the future.

• I default to the "Matilda is Norman's mom and Sienna is Emma and Carol's mom" headcanons because I like to play around with them, but could also see Sienna as Nat's mom.

• Split on whether Scarlet is Don's or Phil's mom, but I could also see Phil as Jessica's child.

• Would love to see Ray interact with any of the sisters who saw his note.

• Norman's relationship with Isabella receives the least amount of focus out of the trio and it makes me sad.

• Likewise, Don's and Gilda's relationship with Yuugo is often overlooked. I'd really like to see how the latter especially mend bridges after Gilda was ready to blow up the shelter when he showed up with Emma near death and without Ray. I think they'd do it through a tea party.

• I'm obsessed with the thought of Peter and Norman having dinners together, regardless of the Norman Ratri theory.

• They really had Adam reciting Norman's number only for them to never interact in a panel, huh

• For that matter, we barely see Adam and Violet interact despite this information from the mystic code book:

Would have loved to see Adam interact more with any of the Goldy Pond crew, but especially her and Paula.

• I'm normally not super attached to specific gender headcanons for the characters, but after Shirai confirmed Violet's favorite food is pickles, my default headcanon for her is she a trans lesbian. Love the idea of trans wlw Gillian taking her under her wing, and Violet in turn taking Gilda under her wing while they're searching for the Seven Walls.

182 Days of TPN - Day 142

Chapter 142: "The Promise Made 1,000 Years Ago, Part 2"

Hearing about Leuvis and how he's causing some massive damage is truly frightening and definitely what I should be focusing on right now.. and yet here I am completely enamored by the Ray ancestor and his fancy ponytail.

Julius wishes there to be no more sacrifices.. by sacrificing others. I'm not quite sure you're understanding your logic, sir. I know he cares about not losing any more of his own men and comrades, but a whole lot of innocent lives will suffer instead as a result.

Not only did Ray's ancestor passed down his logical mind and handsome looks, but also his tragic backstory. Okay, well.. there's no such thing as a decent backstory in this series, but his comments just remind me a bunch about all the siblings Ray lost while at GF along with the bunker dads.

I know Norman has his own ancestor, but the moment here between Julius & Emma's ancestor sounds so much like the argument in ch153 when Emma is trying to "save" Norman.

Not that I wanna compare Isabella and Julius in any way, but it would've been hilarious to me if he countered with a "Yes. Isn't it obvious?" like she did to Peter in ch170. Even without that, it's kinda like the Ratris get the tables turned on them with who is getting betrayed.

It's amazing how strongly I despise this man when he's only in the story for two chapters.

I always felt like offering up the best food was such an easy thing for the demons to give up, compared to the rewards the humans (both Julius & Emma) have to settle with. Yverk is still able to eat high quality food, with him being a royal, so it doesn't seem like that big of a loss to me.

I also take great joy of seeing the demon god laugh at Julius' expense. It is a harsh role, but Julius was so adamant about putting this deal into place for the sake of humans and now he gets to witness them suffer over and over and over again. So, unfortunate for everyone else yes, but I strangely don't feel sorry for him individually. This is why you don't betray your friends.

Sigh, when demon god says it like that, it seems so obvious what reward He will ask of Emma, doesn't it?

Nothing is more important to this girl than her own family, but when she words the promise like this, ya think everything is gonna be all fine and well. If everyone crosses over to the human world and no one can return to the demon world, then they'll all be safe, right?

WRONG! This little bastard knows exactly how to find a loophole and get exactly what he wants regardless and I hate that stupid, unseeable smirk on His face.

Left Is Alright

or: Handedness in The Promised Neverland 👈👉

Apparently I‘ve got too much time on my hands (hah!), and while re-reading the manga I made several discoveries about handedness I wanted to share with you.

First of all, about 90-95 % of the human population are right hand dominant, which is mirrored in The Promised Neverland with a large majority of the characters being right-handed.

Now it gets (more) interesting – the few left-handed characters we met throughout the story. First and most prominent of them all would be Norman; using his preferred hand was even a major plot point later one when he noticed someone in Lambda had to take the same daily tests as him, but left the pen on the right side of the pad, instead of Norman, who left it one the, well, left side.

Now back to other left-handed characters – for example, Smee. Although we can‘t clearly see him using his left hand while writing in the manga, the anime did so:

(sorry for the low quality😑) and with this, we can conclude Smee‘s left-handed.

Another character that is presumably being left-handed is James Ratri aka William Minerva; the way he wears his watch on his right wrist leads me to this conclusion, since you‘re usually wearing your watch on your non-preferred hand.

Additionally, in the inside cover of Volume 2, we were able to see William Minerva write with his left hand too:

Also adding Adam here, since we see him (once) stitching up his teddy bear with his left hand:

(Isn’t it impressive how a big guy like Adam can now handle fragile objects like needles and is also able to sew after only two years? 🧸❤️)

Which further makes me believe Norman and Adam are clones (in one way or another), maybe even from the same source… the same left-handed source, even?! (looking at you James >>)

It‘s also stated on several sites Leslie‘s left-handed, but… I couldn‘t find any evidence for that claim? As seen in the anime, he‘s playing the mandoline as a right-handed person would do, so I actually doubt he is left-handed (of course if he‘s actually left-handed and we learned about that in the novels, I‘ll take it all back, but it‘s quite complicated to find a source for this).

Last, but not least – Lucas! Because, well, there are no other options anymore than using his left hand (thanks, Leuvis). 

I think it‘s safe to say Lucas wasn‘t left-handed before, but having to rely on his only hand left (hah! unintended pun again!) he counts as left-hander, too.

By now you may ask „But Snickers, that‘s no hot tea and not interesting at all!“ and I‘ll answer you proudly „yes, I know, but now we get to what, or better, who I truly wanted to highlight“. 😅

Yes, exactly.

Yuugo.

He‘s nowhere stated as being left-handed, presumably because he‘s seen on various occasions using his right hand, handling guns or doing other tasks.

But that‘s not how he‘s introduced, because:

Threatening the children with a knife, merely scratching Emma‘s cheek with a bullet as intended, carrying his gun on his left side all leads me to one conclusion: Yuugo‘s ambidextrous. He can use both hands as quite as good, an attribute only around 1% of world’s population shares, which means it’s even rarer than being left-handed!

The question remains, why did Yuugo foremost used his left hand during his introduction arc and later on his right hand? It’s speculation by my side, but I would blame it on this:

Yuugo is a sentimental man who cares a lot about others, even if he can’t quite show his feelings properly most of the time. Still feeling guilty about what happened to his family and especially Lucas, I could imagine he didn’t wanted to hurt the children with the hand that carried a part of Lucas with him, no matter how much he resented the Grace Field-escapees. As soon as Yuugo accepted he’s now the adoptive father of 15 very noisy, very annoying but also very his children (more or less🤔), he started using his right hand with the glove way more often, even to the point you could guess he’s right-handed and nothing else.

In conclusion: We got several left-handed characters in The Promised Neverland, but only one (know) being ambidextrous, Yuugo.

Or maybe I’m just pouring too many thoughts into this topic, who knows?

I’M ON CHAPTER 136 AND WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON

Norman has gone full Eren Jaeger mode but tbh it feels like a lesser aot. the demons are clearly evil, regardless of if they have young. i mean, most of them don’t hesitate to kill or taunt the kids for being unable to kill while they seem to have no problem with killing anything in their way. also there’s the small, overlooked fact that they keep humans as cattle, Emma, wtf are you thinking.

yeah, Sonju and Mujika are good. but like, keep them alive. let them repopulate with demons that don’t need human meat. i don’t get why Emma is so adamant about keeping the aristocrats alive when they were the ones to kill the evil-blooded demons, eat them, and still choose to continue killing humans. they had the choice for peace, and rejected it. end of story.

we haven’t seen enough reasons for us to be conflicted between Norman’s and Emma’s plans. i don’t get how complete demon genocide will create dissonance among the humans since the humans weren’t really involved with the conflict at hand. yeah, the Ratri family was, but they’re the 0.1% of humans that are okay with feeding demons their kind for their own benefit. in a sense, they’re no better than the demons. we just haven’t seen enough of the good side of demons and the bad side of humans to make a decision between them.

aot handled this way better, imho. they clearly showed us both sides and took the time to explain why both have merit. the Marlean Eldians just want to be treated equal, and see the Paradis Eldians as evil for taking away what hope they had of that dream. The Paradis Eldians see the Marlean Eldians as traitors and their captors for keeping them on the island. The Paradis Military’s initial plan was to flip the script: have the Eldians on top with the Marleans groveling at their feet, which would just continue the cycle of hatred and violence (which is what tpn is going for). Eren wants total genocide of everyone not on Paradis. Zeke wants the Eldians to peacefully die out so that they can’t be harmed anymore. The Marlean Eldians want to continue living and fighting for their country in hopes that there will be a better future for them. There are so many different sides with so many different merits.

tpn has the cattle children wanting to kill the demons because they’ve terrorized demons for years. Emma wants to make another promise and not commit mass genocide against the demons because she feels bad for killing them. the demons want to continue what they’re doing because greed and gluttony, and we don’t know what the humans think of this on the other side. it really doesn’t make much sense. overall, tpn doesn’t have aot’s level of complexity in its themes.

i get what Emma’s saying. the cycle of hatred will continue since humans and demons will basically be back at square one where they fought each other like in the beginning of history. i get it. but at that point, the demons are basically just wild animals. it’d be like humans uprising against deer or wolves. the demons wouldn’t have the intellectual capabilities to feel hatred or put together an intelligible, comprehensible thought about their situation. Norman said it himself, the demons are a highly unstable organism that, in all intents and purposes, shouldn’t exist. why are we fighting to save them, Emma.

also, while i’m at it, WHY THE FUCK ARE WE SKIPPING AHEAD YEARS FOR A COUPLE PANELS IN THE DAY AND NIGHT. I’M SO CONFUSED AND I CAN’T FOLLOW.

i was already interested in what was going on, so why did they feel the need to give us a “sneak peak” of sorts? it’s honestly just making me so confused.

tl;dr—tpn is a wonderful, interesting series but it’s got its issues.

Omg, now I don't even care about the reward just about how Emma could have condemned the Ratris to be left behind...
