❀ SISTER, SISTER (REWRITE) | TOKYO REVENGERS 🤍 sano family 💿  female reader, second pov (you/your), angst and fluff, hurt / comfort, family, platonic relationship, implied soulmates, tw: canonical character death, au - canon divergence, timeline: pre-canon (headcanon), timeline: pre-moebius (imagine), headcanon + imagine 📅 july 21, 2021 🎙️ i accidentally deleted this. i had to rewrite… if someone has the original copy, please i beg of you, SEND it to me. i don’t really care if you plagiarized it or something, just give me the copy i beg. I had a breakdown because of this. 🔗 masterlist ,, parts: 01, 02, 03, 04, 05
Sano Shinichiro’s best friend isn’t just his platonic soulmate, they’re also his younger sibling’s older sister.
Tumblr media
☆ Sano Shinichiro has a lot of tight-knit relationships (4lifers, some may say), but there is one that everyone unanimously agreed was his closest one.
☆ It was a wonder to some how the two of you become such close companions. To some, after seeing Sano Shinichiro with you, they easily understood.
☆ Meeting in school as his underclassman, it didn’t take long for you to get roped into his gang’s bullshit. It wasn’t that you were an official member but you were definitely someone. Someone to Sano Shinichiro. Someone.
☆ Sano Shinichiro is batshit crazy, especially during his younger years. It just so happened that you were crazy as well.
☆ In high school, you guys were definitely uncontrollable. Whatever Shinichiro did, you tagged along.
☆ As you grew older, the both of you were definitely calmer, outgrowing that childish recklessness the both of you had always shared.
☆ It was love. Not romantically, but it was love. The kind of love that Shinichiro was sure that in some other universe, the two of you were together as well.
☆ When someone tried insinuating that the two of you could start dating each other, the response was instant.
“With this asshole?” “With this bitch?”
☆ Shinichiro wonders if the reason why he’s always getting rejected by girls is because you’re always with him. You scoffed.
“Trust me, it’s not me. They just don’t like you.” “I have a great personality!” “Well your face isn’t that great.”
☆ Once Shin introduced you to his family, it was all over.
☆ Mikey had no reaction to your presence in the house at the start, blatantly ignoring you, giving you dead-eyes. You coddled on him, to his chagrin.
☆ Emma, on the other hand, adored you. To the point that Shinichiro and Manjiro wondered if this was really their sister.
☆ You managed to bribe Mikey with sweets. Not that you needed to because when he saw you picking on Shinichiro, he loved you already.
☆ As much as they want you to be a part of the family officially, they begged you not to marry their brother.
“Honestly, you can do better, Y/n-nee.” “Yeah. Shinichiro isn’t worth it.” “I’m right here?!” “We know.”
☆ Shinichiro thinks that they love you more than they love him. He doesn’t quite mind.
☆ Keisuke is Manjiro’s… friend, if you can even call him that. Mikey beats him up for fun. (In his defense, Baji asks for it.)
☆ It was only when you saw Manjiro literally kick a guy twice his size on the face, knocking them out cold, did you realize that this kid could literally kill you.
“Is Manjiro safe?” “Why are you saying that as if he’s some dog?”
☆ You love the kid, either way.
☆ You’d defend him from whatever happens. But if it’s a fight, you’re dropping out. Fuck no. Mikey can fight for himself. (If anything, you’re the one getting beat up.)
“Y/n-nee, Shinichiro hit me!” “Shin, don’t hit him! That was too hard.” “Why are you taking his side?!” “He brought home snacks for me and you’ve been pissing me off lately.”
☆ It does weird you out how he laughs at horror movies when the four of you watch at home, though. Everyone is screaming. You don’t know if he’s laughing at the gory scene on the television or at everyone’s reaction.
☆ Movie nights with the Sano family start during the afternoon because everyone wants a chance to pick a movie.
☆ Sometimes, you get suspicious of Shinichiro disappearing randomly. He doesn’t answer your calls, nor his siblings’. When he comes back and you ask him to explain, he just grins at you and ruffles your hair. Asshole.
“It’s a secret.”
☆ MALL DATES WITH THE SANO FAMILY !!!
☆ It was supposed to be shopping with Emma but three people were tagging along, acting as if it was a coincidence, because they wanted attention from you as well.
☆ It would be a bloodbath. Emma wants to go shopping, Shinichiro wants to go to the arcade, Mikey wants to go home, Keisuke wants to go to a pet shop.
☆ You want to go to the movies. That’s impossible because you’d never get to pick the movie you want to watch.
☆ When you get home, everyone is knocked out tired. After a whole day of complaining and fighting, you didn’t expect anything else. (You were also half-dead on the couch after all.)
☆ You stay over so much at Sano's house that you’re basically a member of that household. Their grandfather doesn’t quite mind.
☆ Their grandfather appreciates your presence in the house. It seems as if it has been livelier with you around. He doesn’t mind the noise.
☆ He  doesn’t quite understand how you can stand his grandchildren. For one, his eldest, Sano Shinichiro is running around, creating a gang and picking fights and getting his ass handed to him. Manjiro started calling himself some name, is addicted to fights, and refuses to learn anything else because apparently he’s going to take over Tokyo or something. Emma is… Well, that child seems to hate everyone. Then, there’s also Mikey’s friend, Keisuke. He doesn’t even have to say anything about that kid.
☆ He finally understood when he saw you laughing as you watched Keisuke and Manjiro get chased by wild dogs.
“She’s just as insane as them.”
☆ He says all of that but he loves all four of his grandchildren.
☆ Sometimes, it felt like you lived in that house more than your own. Shinichiro’s room is yours. (He did not agree to this. You sleep on his bed anyway.)
☆ Emma loves playing with your hair and styling it. She complains that her brothers’ hairs are too short. (That’s part of the reason why Mikey grew his out.)
☆ She also learned cooking from you. Honestly, you don’t know how they survived this long. The only thing Shinichiro can cook is curry and it’s shit.
“Shinichiro’s cooking sucks.” “You brat! Try starving!” “Instead of eating your food? Gladly.”
☆ Shinichiro annoys you to teach him how to cook better as well. Emma told him to get out of her kitchen.
☆ Mikey has this habit of judging people. He will blackmail you even before he learns the word blackmail. Be careful.
☆ Emma also has a bit of judging people, specifically her brothers. More specifically, Shinichiro’s sense of style and Manjiro’s inability to eat anything that isn’t sweet. She says that’s why he’s so stupid, his brain is filled with sugar.
☆ You can tell that the kids love each other so much though. You just hope that they can show that… properly.
☆ Shinichiro loves taking videos of everything, he uses this camcorder that was gifted to him years ago, on his 7th birthday. He has a shelf of tapes in his room. Later down the row, your videos were in the Sano Family Collection.
☆ It’s always noisy at that house. But it’s expected as it is home to five people.
☆ It only became silent when Shinichiro died.
☆ Everything was different after Shinichiro died.
☆ On the night he died, that was the one night you chose to laugh at him when he asked if you wanted to stay at the shop with him to help fix up Mikey’s birthday gift for tomorrow.
“Hey, Y/n! You better be there for Mikey’s birthday tomorrow.” “How could I not go to my favorite Sano’s birthday?” “I thought that I was your favorite Sano- Don’t laugh!” “Goodnight, Shin.”
☆ Manjiro called you an hour later; that was your last conversation with Shinichiro.
☆ Of course, it hurt you. How could it not? Almost ten years of your life was spent with him, from high school until adulthood. He was family. He was someone. He was Shinichiro.
☆ Sometimes, it felt like a part of you died with him that night.
☆ But you had to be strong. Mikey and Emma were lost, confused, and they were looking at you. How could you show them that you didn’t feel like yourself anymore?
☆ You put on a smile, hardened yourself, and took care of them. They were your kids as much as they were Shinichiro’s.
☆ You spend the nights crying.
☆ Emma refused to leave your side. She cried when you even tried stepping out of the house’s door.
☆ Mikey never left his room the days that followed Shinichiro’s death. He barely ate, the meals you left outside his door barely eaten. You had to beg him to go out of his room on the day of the funeral. He almost didn’t come.
“Mikey, please. Please. Go see your brother before he has to go. Please, Manjiro.”
☆ You cried outside his door that morning. Begging him.
☆ He came out, eyes red, lips pursed.
☆ The funeral was attended by family, friends, members, people whose lives were changed because of Shinichiro. You find that in funerals, you can see how good of a person the deceased is from the people that visit.
☆ You had no tears left to cry during the funeral, even when people came to pat your shoulder and tell you that he was a good person. You knew that. Shinichiro is a good person. They didn’t have to tell you.
☆ You caught a glance of a boy with light hair standing at the very back. You didn’t recognize him but something was pulling you to him. He left before you could approach him.
☆ The first night after Shinichiro was laid down on his final resting place, you found yourself on the couch in the living room.
☆ That night was the hardest you ever cried for Sano Shinichiro.
☆ The silence was unbearable.
☆ It took so long to finally stop shedding tears over the dead. When you realized that you stopped crying for him, it made you break down even more.
☆ You couldn’t understand how Mikey and Emma manage to go about their day as if nothing was wrong. How they declined therapy, or seeing someone.
☆ You never knew that it was because you were right there. They could act as if nothing was wrong because you were still there.
☆ Sometimes, you just want to run away and never look back. To forget about Shinichiro, about Mikey, Emma, their whole bloodline. It was heavy. It was so heavy. But you didn’t.
☆ That was love.
☆ But it was Mikey and Emma who insisted that you take the job offer overseas.
“We’ll be fine here, Y/n-nee.” “Yeah, we’re not babies. We can take care of ourselves just fine.” “Well, I can. Mikey can’t.” “Hey!”
☆ Your eyes were teary when you packed your bags and left, promising them that it would only be for a while, that you’d come back soon.
Tumblr media
“They’re at their little meeting.”
You feel the breeze caress your skin, like an old friend greeting you home. Shibuya never changed in the years that you were gone. From their grandfather’s words, it seemed like the Sano siblings didn’t change as well. Seriously, why is the meeting still at night?
You just came back to Japan and the very first place that you went was, of course, home. The Sano Household. Only to find out that the two kids that you were planning to surprise weren't even there.
Their grandfather had welcomed you warmly like you were his own grandchild, telling you that as usual, they were out having a little meeting. You thanked him, leaving your bags, before finding yourself in the cold once more.
You were unofficially officially tasked to drag them home.
Mikey you can understand, but Emma? Why in the world is she hanging out with her brother? In her brother’s meeting? In her brother’s gang meeting? You wondered if starting or being in gangs was in the bloodline. It’s as if the Sano Siblings were destined to trouble, as if they’d get sick if they aren’t fighting something.
You adjust the plastic bag on your wrist. You bought some ingredients for dorayaki, planning on spending the night to make some with the siblings because you know that Manjiro wouldn’t be able to wait until tomorrow.
God, I love these kids too much.
The silence of the night was peaceful.
The silence of the night was broken by bellowing.
“Who in the world is screaming in the dead of the night?”
You sighed, starting your trek up the steps of Musashi shrine. It wasn’t until midway did you finally start to recognize that voice. “Manjiro?” What the fuck.
Hurrying to the top, the shrine was crowded by rows of black uniforms, young teens in lines looking up at the shrine where the familiar strands of blond stood. You blink.
For a second, you saw Black Dragon.
For a second, you saw Sano Shinichiro.
You couldn’t help the gasp that left your lips, unheard in the midst of one Sano Manjiro’s yelling. Last you heard, there were barely 10 guys in the Tokyo Manji Gang. To think that that snotty brat who refused to eat anything that isn’t sweet is leading such a huge group, is succeeding in his once little dream.
Manjiro looked like Shinichiro, you realize, standing at the very back.
You shook yourself out of your stupor. No. You refuse to let yourself walk backwards, to let yourself see things that aren’t there, to remember moments long past.
Emma is standing off to the side with a cute girl beside her. At least she didn’t seem to be a part of the gang, wearing civilian clothes that you hoped was keeping her warm. You don’t want her getting sick. You march forward, ignoring the looks sent your way by the members as they try to stop you.
Without a pause, you start matching Manjiro’s screaming just as Emma starts, “Y/n-nee!-”
“Shut the hell up, Sano Manjiro!”
The silence of the night returns.
Wide obsidian eyes stare into your as you stand at the very front, at the bottom of the stairs where Mikey stood. “It is eleven in the fucking evening. Everyone is asleep. None of your members are talking. So tell me, why the fuck are you screaming?!”
There were murmurs behind you. He doesn’t seem to mind, a grin splitting his face, the cold mask he was wearing breaking as he jumps down, skipping steps. “Y/n-nee!”
“We’re going home!”
You step to the side, letting him land on the space where you once were, knowing that you were going to get tackled if you hadn’t dodge. Mikey is unnerved, simply turning around and jumping on you, arm hitting your throat.
Draken looked exasperated, knowing that the President wasn’t going to go back to whatever he was saying and it was up to him to adjourn for the night.
“You’re back!” He looks at the plastic bag. “ARE THOSE FOR DORAYAKI?!”
“Nuh-uh! Go back up there and finish your little club meeting.”
“But Ken-chin-”
“No!”
Mikey pouts as he gets pushed off of you. Ken gives you a thankful look as if you were an angel sent by the heavens to rein their spontaneous boss back. “Let’s go, Emma,” you call to the girl already hurrying over.
“Y/n-”
“No.”
You turn your back to Mikey, grabbing Emma’s hand as she looks at you with wide eyes, a growing smile on her lips. Seriously, screaming at 11 in the evening at a shrine where no one is talking? You worry for Mikey sometimes.
“Keisuke, you’re invited as well,” you tell the boy in passing, glancing at the blond beside him. “Bring your pretty friend over as well.”
“Y/n-nee, when did you come back?”
You smile at her. “Just now.”
“And you headed straight here?”
Technically, no. You headed home. “Where else would I go if not to you and Mikey?”
It's just that your home is the Sano Family.

I can't stop thinking about the Kurokawa siblings in the OG-timeline
Of course, Tokyo Revengers manga spoilers, be aware!!!
Okay, bare with me because I'm gonna try to explain my point. Maybe I'm just trying to cope with Tenjiku animated because just thinking that Emma and Izana never saw each other in this time-line broke me.
(always broke me, but the anime is re-opening the wound >.< )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I'm just blaiming this freaking and sad openning)
We all know what will happen in this time-line, right? But I always wished that in some other time-line, Izana kept his promise, that he come back to Emma. Because he promised to her and there is no way that I could believe that in a time-line where his not blinded by his rage to Mikey, he will not try to find Emma.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, we all know this, right? Here is where my theory starts (remember, this is me coping).
What we actually know about the Original time-line? (besides is fuck up xD)
Mikey's accident was the 30th of July in 1999.
Mikey's death the 20th of July 4 years later, in 2003.
We also know that in the other time-lines, Shinichiro came to see Izana at the orphanage when Izana was around ten years old, so in 1997 (also, Shinichiro still have his high-school uniform and looks like a teenager, what makes sense because his supposed to be seventeen there).
We also know that grandpa Sano is death and Emma ran away from home. What is fucking tragic and concerning because in that moment Emma is only 11 years old (her birthday is on November).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(yes, I put a lot of kid Izana because his adorable and he deserves the world xD)
So, here goes my theory:
Izana probably started to freak out when suddenly Shinichiro stopped visiting him and writing him letters. Probably, in some point, Shin wrote him a short letter explaining that Manjiro was sick and he had to take care of him (maybe it's being months since the accident, the canon show us that Shinichiro was only focused on Manjiro after the accident).
We can all imagine how that felt for Izana. Remember that he's still a kid, twelve years old, so he doesn't understand the gravity of Manjiro's situation. He just feels like his being replaced. So, in some point, Izana snaps.
I can totally picture kid Izana going to the hospital to see Shinichiro (probably follow by a poor Kakucho that even being the smaller, knows this is a terrible idea). Maybe Izana wanted to confront Shinichiro, maybe he wanted to confront Mikey (he doesn't know his real state). But once he see Mikey's room, once he see the reality of what happened... He just can't be mad. Because he's a kid with mental health problems and his seeing the non-brother that he wanted to hate paralyzed in a hospital bed. So he will probably have an emotional breakdown.
So in my head-canon, he starts visiting the hospital more. Never showing to Shinichiro that he was there, always trying to keep it a secret, even if he doesn't understand why (Izana being obssessive is canon, we know).
In some of this secret-visits... He sees Emma. And Emma sees him. Remember, they are still kids, maybe it's being a year or two since the accident, so 2000, 2001? Izana will be fourteen, Emma ten. So it's awkward at the beginning, but they start to talk.
I can picture them walking in the gardens of the hospital, being uncomfortable with each other at the beginning. But slowly, Izana starts to remember his little sister. His promise to came back for her. And Emma is clearly not being taking care by Shinichiro at this point (not judging Shin, it is what it is)
So, when grandpa Sano dies, who was the only adult taking care of Emma... Emma didn't just ran away. Izana took her. Izana came back for Emma and refused to let her in and empty house with an absent brother and the ghost of the other. We already know that Izana took Kakucho from the orphanage when he went out of juviee, so this is not out of character for him. Izana would do the same for Emma if he ever saw her being neglected in the original time-line.
So yeah, I found the time-line where the Kurokawa siblings story doesn't end up that freaking traumatic.
In the original time-line, Izana came back for Emma, he keep his promise.
(so now I'm going to pretend this is canon and not cry with Emma in Tenjiku)

Mikey x gn!Reader (fluff headcanons)
Okay switch of fandoms cause school and my brain aren’t letting me write again for part 2 ITS ALMOST FINISHED I SWEAR NEXT WEEKEND MAYBE IT OUT. But here’s some general headcanons I have for dating Manjiro Sano.
Tumblr media
• Okay maybe dating a feared gang leader wasn’t the first thing that came to anyone’s mind when they met you but here you were.
• Mikey absolutely adores your handwriting. You pack him little lunches (cause man loves to eat) with sticky notes telling him not to be to much trouble. He keeps all the notes on his bedroom door.
• On the topic of lunches Mikey can’t cook, he’s tried and failed miserably, he even burns water. Keep this menace 20ft from a stove or anything the heats up.
• Bike rides are a MUST he loves the feeling of you holding onto him like your life depended on it. He actually purposely speeds up on curbs to feel you hold on tighter. Don’t mind if he laughs in your face afterwards, he isn’t trying to be mean but he will be.
• He will brag all the TIME if someone even mentions your name or existence Mikey is immediately on a rant about how you treat him so well and how he doesn’t deserve you with his tantrums sometimes.
• Speaking of breakdowns Mikey is known for his heartless acts and very bad mental health so not on purpose he accidentally raises his voice or lashes out. But he apologizes, brings you snacks he knows you like, and even cuddles you with this sadden look. If it was a bad day he lashes out on he might even cry to you while apologizing. You mean so much to him so he doesn’t mean to hurt you.
• You will always need your ringer on, Mikey calls randomly and expects you to pick up. He’s possessive and is in need of constant reassurance so please answer his messages and calls.
•Mikey also loves when you get along with his friends/siblings. He will constantly tell you how much Shinichiro would have loved you and how you fit right in with his friends. He will ask you for an opinion on his closet friends (exp. Draken, Baji, Mitsuya, and ofc Emma).
•You could rant for hours of your favorite things and Mikey would listen to every small detail cause he obsessed with everything you are. You love monster high so does he, his favorite is Clawdeen.
• Now just cause he loves listening to you doesn’t mean he doesn’t love quiet candle lit cuddles on the couch with hot coca and rain outside. He is in love with you so holding you close with a blankets on the couch listening to rain is like heaven.
•He tends to pay for everything. Key word Tends bc sometimes he fakes innocent and “forgets” his wallet. It not that he doesn’t have the money and he definitely will pay you back. He just likes knowing you aren’t constantly there with him for getting you expensive things or for money in general.
•Reassurance is one of Mikey's biggest things, he constantly gets overwhelmed with thoughts of you leaving him or breaking his heart. So please tell this boy you love him and you think he’s amazing.
• If you ever wear his clothes he will go berserkers you will be dragged to the nearest flat surface preferably the bed and be cuddled and kissed til he is satisfied.
•If you love reading. Mikey will ask you to read out loud to him just to fall asleep on your lap. You think it’s quite cute and weird but he does it to listen to your calm smooth voice.
• Mikey will also be scared of your safety with him. He is a noticeable gang leader so having a partner who’s safety he now has to worry about is scary. So don’t be to upset when he text you every 30 minutes to see where you are and who your with.
• He will also love to meet your friends and see who you love being around because he wants to be involved in everything you love just to be closer to you.
• Stuff animals will be traumatized! He personal acts like they offend him. He will beat them up and when you catch him his excuse is, “They looked at me wrong” or “They threaten to take you away from me” you might want to hid them or watch out if he glares at one a certain way.

some koko & inupi thoughts
or sanzu-sanzu-and friends / personal commentary
.
.
koko + inupi’s backstories are actually one of the saddest and most memorable in tokyo revengers for me. ok hold up yes lots of things are sad in tr ahahaha so of course. but also personally i’m a sucker for intertwining backstories and character arcs*, and so give the knife a sad twist and watch me milk that Sad Shit to the bone.
thinking of how koko was unable to fulfill two things he’d promised (as a child): being with akane eventually and protecting her.
Tumblr media
the scene where he kissed inui i think was him ultimately coming to terms with the fact that he’d never be able to attain the first one. i think he did intend for that kiss to be exactly for the person that he liked, and with akane dead, kissing inupi was probably the closest thing he’d be able to do to fulfilling that promise, which means never. in a way, i see it as an act of him Getting Over akane, like a step towards it: he knew it was inupi, his friend, right in front of him (he even says inupi’s name) , and his breakdown right after was him finally faced with the fact that that’s it, there won’t be an actual akane that he’ll ever be with, sort of him shedding his final tears for a love he’ll never have. and i mean metaphorical tears, not really literal; if he ever did cry still at night afterwards like sure that was still possible haha but i mean you know, that whole event for me marked his acceptance of akane’s death.
which is why in this panel, i felt like he really is outraged when inupi implies that he still hasn’t moved on from akane.
Tumblr media
because i think he already had (or at least was going there, so this might’ve opened some not-so-old wounds), and that also this accusation comes with the implication that this whole time, koko sees nothing more than ‘akane’ in inupi. i feel like inupi has had it in his head that koko has only helped him and stuck to his side for so long because koko was obsessed with inupi’s sister whom (inupi thought) koko still sees in him. which just the thought of it breaks my heart for inupi if so, because imagine living your life thinking that the one person closest to you only cares for you because they see someone else and not you. of course there was also the fact that koko originally intended to save akane that night and not him…like i can’t even imagine the level of survivor’s guilt.
but i think it wasn’t just inupi doing the misinterpreting of motivations here. i think at some point, koko believed that everyone including inupi to some degree only wanted him for his genius money-making. and it could be that koko had let himself be ‘used’ by inupi as like, atonement for not being able to save akane in the first place. the whole thing...is about two friends in this convoluted misunderstanding of loyalties.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i do think that koko did care significantly for inupi and that’s why he’d stuck together with him, even offering him a place in tenjiku like it’s black dragons all over again (oh, the good old days). plus remember when he only agreed to joining tenjiku cus he wanted mucho to stop hurting inupi (and hanagaki)? and they do stick together as grownups in other future timelines even. which is also why i think koko was able to finally accept inupi’s decision to stay within toman/toman’s circle and didn’t force him to stay on the same path as him because he knew that that’s not really what inupi deeply wanted.
inupi, i think, was ultimately looking for a place where he can belong, like you know the whole toman credo of one for all all for one type of thing, the whole…familiar/familial circle of safety and closeness. (i know this sounds very cheesy HAHA but i hope you get the picture.) it’s why i think he’d grown obsessed with bringing back black dragons—and longed for shinichiro’s wholesome era—like it’s the one thing he had going on for him. which, in a way, it was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and koko must’ve understood this. inupi finding his place in toman and their whole separation must’ve been bittersweet because it’s both of them finally forging their own paths without being dependent on one another, but at the same time it’s them no longer being by each other’s side, because inupi has found a place where he can belong while koko’s already in too deep in the money/street life business.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i say bittersweet because of course inupi’s ideal circle did involve koko, too. maybe even partly cus he felt he had to give back to koko somehow for sticking with him thru thick and thin. i’m personally sad about their friendship ‘ending’ but i also think that their separation showed mutual respect and understanding for one another and in a manga filled with so much heartbreak imma take my semblance of peace where i can, haha.
Tumblr media
i do have some bones to pick though with the whole thing i mean sure it isn’t perfect, like for one the usual Where are the parents? (well, kokonoi’s at least—was this ever addressed?) i mean how was koko...able to do All That and get away with it and why’d he suddenly feel like an adult with all the money dealings and shit (i assumed he’s like 14-15 at this point?). but then again i guess that was also maybe the point: all these kids in these circumstances and their absent (sometimes dead) parents and the whole mess they brew and get involved in. in the end, they’re really all just children—i think that’s something fans who criticize these characters often forget.
.
.
.
all in all, this makes koko and inupi one of my favorite pairs in tr because of how dynamic their story is and how their backstories are able to flesh each character out even more. koko breaking down after he kisses inui was one of my favorite moments in tr because it showed a totally different side of koko that i didn’t expect and like it just painted his whole character and interactions with inupi in a whole new light for me. probably my liking for this single event hinges on the reading that that was a moving on point for koko tho, but then again, it’s my personal interpretation. :)
of course i can’t talk about koko and inupi without including my favorite tr cover of all time:
Tumblr media
.
.
.
*just an aside but one example of these linked character arcs that i absolutely loved was sakusa kiyoomi and komori motoya’s in haikyuu. they’re both very minor characters and they were mostly explored in only a single chapter haha—ch. 394–but they both stayed with me for a long time because of how furudate was able to like, paint these characters whole in almost a single stroke. i think that was some genius character writing right there.
ps. wow for the first time there’s zero mention of sanzu haha i—whoops, there you go

House of Memories || 5
Tumblr media
MASTERLIST
Sano Manjiro “Mikey” x f!Reader
Word Count: 4.6k
Genre: Childhood Friends to Lovers, Angst, Fluff
Warning: Descriptions of a breakdown, death. Slight spoiler alert.
Synopsis: Flowers for papa ft. Shinichiro’s 13th rejection
Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Taking your phone out, you call one of the top contacts in your phone, only having to wait for a few seconds before the other side picks up. “What do you need, boss?”
“Make sure to send someone to retrieve the body inside the building. Bring it to the Shibuya hideout.”
“Got it.”
Tumblr media
Walking by the sidewalk, you try your best to maneuver around the crowd, not in the mood to be brushing shoulders with a bunch of strangers, not when your body’s aching all over from running around town all day. From working a shift in a cafe then quickly having to freshen up and play at some fancy party. Your feet ache from not having your bike to ride all day.
“How am I even allowed to work when I’m just 13?” You question yourself, hands stuffed in your jacket pocket as you make your way to Shinichiro’s bike shop, hoping that your bike will be fixed by now, you don’t think you have the energy to walk to the hospital right now. Looking up, you see that all the lights inside the bike shop are off but you just take it as a sign to use the back door. Taking the spare key from your wallet, you insert it and open the door, not forgetting to lock it once more after you’ve entered the shop.
“Shinichi-nii, are you here?” Calling for the dark-haired male, you look through the small storage room first, taking a bottle of water from the small fridge before heading your way to where Shinichiro usually stays to work on bikes. Spotting the male, you wave your hand in greeting as you see him look up from tinkering with the bike, a cigarette in between his lips. “All alone tonight?” Sitting yourself down beside him, you look over at what he’s doing, but after a few seconds of blankly staring at random pieces of the bike, not knowing what they all mean or do, you give up and take your phone out.
“Nah, Mikey and the others are on their way here, said that they’ll be waiting for you here, turns out you got here first.” Taking the cigarette from his lips, he taps it on the side where an ashtray awaits him. Putting the cigarette back, he nods towards your bike which is placed on the corner of the shop. “I just finished fixing it, should be good to use by now. Just had to clean off some of the rust and replace some old parts.”
Muttering your thanks, you stand up and make your way to your dad’s old bike, looking it over and noticing some new parts here and there. “Y’know, you don’t have to work all those jobs if it’s that difficult for you. I can hire you here, I pay big, y’know?”
Facing the male, you scrunch your face. “I don’t know a single thing about bikes. I only know how to ride them, but ask me what this does and I’ll come up blank.” You say, pointing at a random part of the bike.
“Well, you can just clean around and stuff, hand me tools and all that.”
“So you’re basically giving me free money.”
Chuckling, Shinichiro shrugs. “Well, it’s better than having to work yourself to the bone. Did your mother start asking you for money?” He asks, remembering how your father had started taking more medicine the past month, his state worsening.
Shaking your head, you make your way to him once more, taking the seat beside him as you look through your phone. “Nah, but the electricity keeps getting cut off and my brother sometimes doesn’t have money for school so I gotta give him some of mine, y’know? Don’t want him to feel like he has to be all responsible for money and shit.”
Sighing, Shinichiro gives you a look. “And you also don’t need to be responsible for things like that. You’re 13, barely a teenager. How’d you even get yourself a job? Why not ask your older sisters for help? They have a job, right?” He gives you a pointed look which you avoid.
“They’re already helping with the medical bill, they send over food and school supplies too. I also use my sisters’ old dresses for when I need to play the piano in some of the parties.” You mutter.
“Well, I thi-”
“Hey, Y/N, guess what! Shinichiro just got dumped earlier, it’s his 13th time.” Suddenly, the door bursts open, Mikey, Emma, Baji and Draken entering, the first two holding two plastic bags filled with snacks.
Taking this as an opportunity to change the subject, you turn to Shinichiro, a teasing grin quickly plastered onto your face as you make an ‘o’ with your mouth. “Is that so? Aren’t you worried, Shinichi-nii?” Wiggling your brows, you head over to the others, looking through the plastic bag as you take out some bread. Your stomach grumbling from only having some appetizers at the party.
Knowing that you’re already over your previous conversation with him, Shinichiro just goes along with your antics. “Worried about what?”
“Y’know, it’s your 13th rejection, don’t you think that that alone is bad luck? Shouldn’t you quickly get rejected again just so that it wouldn’t be in the number 13 anymore?” Your question makes Mikey and Baji stare at you in amazement, their eyes lighting up as they process what you said while Draken and Emma only roll their eyes, pretending to not hear what you said.
Scoffing at your words, Shinichiro goes back to tinkering with the bike, cigarette wobbling as he speaks. “You’re quite hurtful with your words, did you know that?”
“Trust me, she knows. She practices her hurtful words when we’re alone.” Mikey says, happy to speak up for you as he lets you take a bite out of his own snack.
“Yeah, sometimes, I can hear her mutter some insults under her breath before asking me what I think about them.” Baji adds, taking a seat by the counter.
“You should still listen to what I said though. It’s not like you’re gonna lose anything, better safe than sorry, right?” You urge, waving your phone in front of your face. “You can just call one of my sisters, quickly ask them out on a date and then I’m pretty sure that they’re gonna reject you.”
You hear Emma hum in agreement, finally deciding to side with you in teasing her brother.
It takes a few more encouragement from your friends before Shinichiro finally gives in. “I really don’t know why I even listen to anything you say when it only leads to my ego dying.” Taking his phone out, he looks through his contacts, searching for one of your sister's phone number.
Letting out a heavy sigh, he presses the call button, eyes slightly shaking, hoping that your sister won’t pick up just so that he can spare himself the embarrassment. But alas, just as he thinks that the call is gonna drop, your sister answers. Gulping, he presses the loudspeaker button after the others started walking nearer in order to hear what’s about to happen.
“Hey, uhm, are you busy?”
Shuffling can be heard from the other side before your sister answers. “No, not really. Why, is there something you need? Are my siblings okay?” Sending you a look as you start laughing to yourself, Shinichiro shakes his head.
“No, it’s just, uhm... would you like to go on a date?” Shinichiro asks, the last part sounding way too uneasy for it to be not funny.
Silence greets him on the other line. Shinichiro starts to apologize but he gets cut off. “You do know that I’m married, right?” That makes the five of you laugh, Emma and Draken trying their best to hide their laughter while you, Mikey and Baji start hysterically laughing at the look on Shinichiro’s face. Mikey leaning his body onto yours as he starts leaning back from how hard he’s laughing at his brother’s demise.
“I know, I just, I need you to reject me, please. Just do it now.”
Your sister laughs from the other side, words getting cut off from her laughter. “Did my sister tell you to do this? Is that it?”
Making a sound of agreement, you hear your sister laugh again. “Okay, okay, but can you ask the question again?”
You can see the way Shinichiro’s skin is starting to redden, the sweat on his temple quickly running down his cheek and onto the floor as he takes a deep breath, “Do you mind going on a date with me, L/N-san?”
“I’m sorry Sano-san, but I’m happily married and have a kid. I hope that this won’t change our friendship.” You can almost hear the teasing lilt in your sister’s voice as she bids her goodbye to Shinichiro, the call ending soon after that. The embarrassed male quickly stuffs the phone in his pocket, face making contact with his arms as he covers them, hoping that that will be enough to block off the laughter coming from the five of you.
It takes a few more seconds for the laughter to die down and for Baji to break the silence.
“By the way, was this the flower that you were gonna give the girl from earlier?” Holding up a beautiful bouquet of sunflowers, Baji hands them to you as he notices your wide eyes.
Taking the flower from him, you smell the petals, a faint scent emitting from them. “Can I have them?” You ask out of the blue, making the rest of them look at you in curiosity.
“Sure, I guess. I didn’t know that you liked flowers.” Shinichiro remarks, now standing up from his seat on the floor and taking the water bottle that you were drinking from earlier, taking big gulps before throwing it in the trash can.
Shaking your head, you wipe your hands clean on your pants, putting the snacks that you got in an empty plastic bag before making your way to your bike, the bouquet of flowers in your hand. “It’s not for me, it’s for papa. Mama said that he likes flowers. Even said that when they go on dates, mama usually gets papa flowers.” You giggle, remembering the laughter coming from your dad whenever your mum would tease him about being more feminine than her. You see them let out a smile as they try to imagine your dad, a tall man with a somewhat burly build just accepting a bouquet of flowers from your dainty and much shorter mum. “Well, I gotta go, still need to visit papa at the hospital and bring mama food.”
Waving them goodbye, you walk your bike out the back door, Mikey following you. “Want me to come with you?”
“Sure, you wanna sleep over at our house?”
Humming in agreement, you hand him a helmet along with the bouquet. Accepting the items, he jogs inside the shop, telling Shinichiro where he’s going before sitting behind you, arms carefully wrapping around your waist with the bouquet safely pressed onto your stomach.
Riding your bike back to your house you quickly got off in order to take the packed dinner that you brother made for your mum, your brother waiting for you in the living room while your grandparents sleep in the extra room upstairs. “You should sleep after, still have school tomorrow, right?” You hear Mikey tell your brother while petting the two dogs. Your brother nods and soon after, Mikey closes the door behind him, hopping onto your bike.
It takes 20 minutes but soon enough, you’re now making your way to your dad’s room where he’s going to be staying for 3 days in order to recover from his leg surgery.
Apparently, the wound on his calf started getting bigger and infected since it wouldn’t heal on its own due to him having Diabetes, at least, that’s what you heard from when your mother was explaining it to one of your sisters through the phone.
Knocking on the door, you peek your head through the door, looking around to see if it’s safe to go inside. Deeming it safe, you usher Mikey inside, silently closing the door behind you. Making your way to your dad’s bed, you silently grete him, minding the other sleeping patients.
Setting the food down, you finally show your dad the bouquet of flowers, his smile instantly making its way back to his slightly pale face. Sunken eyes lighting up just a bit as he weakly grasps the bouquet. “Thank you, I didn’t think that my prince charming would be visiting me tonight.” He teases, taking a whiff of the flowers before carefully handing it to your mother who’s starting to take out the packed dinner. “And it seems that my prince charming’s princess is here as well.” Your dad gestures to Mikey, a cheeky grin on both of their faces as Mikey holds up an imaginary skirt, doing a little curtsy which makes both the males laugh to themselves.
“Just wanted to visit you, pa. Been awhile since I saw you.”
Tumblr media
For 3 days straight, you managed to ask Shinichiro for the flowers that the girls rejected, and everytime, you’d bring it to the hospital for your dad who’s always happy to receive the flowers. His eyes always lighting up whenever he’d take a whiff of the colourful petals.
This becomes a habit of yours a week after your dad gets home from the hospital, Shinichiro always manages to have a bouquet of flowers for you to take whenever you’d drop by, even when he says that he didn’t ask any girl out that day. Even so, you don’t question it, not when your dad always seems to enjoy the flowers, smile and laughter surrounding the house whenever you’d come home with the arrangements.
But then, one night, as you were just about to enter the living room, flower in hand, your dad asked you something which made your blood run cold. “Why didn’t you tell me that you were in a gang?”
Turning around, you see your dad’s pale and sunken face stare at you, the once smile lines that always appeared on his face erased from his features, only a hard glare can be seen. His jaw is clenched as he waits for your answer but you remain silent. Taking this as a sign for him to continue, he gestures for your mum to take your little brother to your shared room, hoping that that will be enough distance for your brother to not be able to hear what’s about to happen.
“I gave you my bike because I thought that you were just jealous of your friends for having one. I let you hang out with Mikey and those other boys because I thought that all of you knew what you were doing, that you wouldn’t intentionally cause trouble. I trusted you and your friends because I thought that you’d know better than to do something stupid like join a gang, but instead, you went and made your own gang?! What went through your head when you agreed with that?! I thought you were smart! I thought that you’d think more about the consequences! Tell me! What went through your head!” Your dad’s voice booms against the walls, hands slamming onto the coffee table in front of him, the wood making a rattling noise as he does so.
“For years, I tried my best to protect you, but you go out there and get yourself beaten just because?!”
You’re not quite sure when and why you started crying, but the tears slowly streaming down your face makes their presence known. Maybe the tears were caused by your father’s anger towards you, something he rarely does. Or maybe it's the fact that his voice is ringing in your ears, the hurt in his voice only adding to the growing guilt building up in you as you start to think about why you had even tried to hide Toman away from him. Or maybe it’s the fact that you can see just how glassy his eyes are from his unshed tears as he tries to stand up, hands and knees shaking.
Silently making your way to his side, you try to take his arm in yours, wanting to help him stand and walk to his room, knowing just how difficult it is for him to walk with the still healing wound on his leg. But instead of taking your hand like he always does, he just shakes you off, a stoic look on his face as he looks away from you.
Slowly, you watch your dad limp to his bedroom, lips bitten as he tries to silence the painful grunts that’s trying to spill from his lips.
Taking a seat on where your dad used to sit, you start to wipe your tears away but they never seem to stop flowing. Anger starts to boil in you, hands now aggressively wiping the tears away only for your sobs to start escaping your lips. Gripping your hair, you pull your knees to your chest, trying your best to bury your face in them in order to silence the sobs. Your scalp stings from just how hard you’re pulling at your hair but you only stop when you hear footsteps.
Your mother slowly appears from the hallway, and as soon as you spot her, you put your feet down, hands immediately letting go of your hair as you desperately wipe your tears away, sobs forcefully being held back as you face her, trying to look as normal as possible. Trying to look like you weren’t just having a mental breakdown.
Making her way to you, she has this soft look on her face, something that you’re not familiar with anymore. Not when she’s almost always away for work. Not when your daily interaction with her is through text. Not when your usual conversation starts with her saying that she won’t be home tonight. Not when the only reply that you can manage is ‘Okay, I love you, stay safe’ before she leaves you on read until the next time she sends you a message saying that she won’t be home once more.
Placing her soft hands on your cheek, you almost flinch with just how cold her skin feels on your burning cheeks. “Forgive your dad, he’s not feeling well today and the medicines are stressing him out.” She whispers, her thumb wiping off your tears.
Nodding at that, you quickly stand up, back facing your mother as you make your way to the bathroom, hoping that you’ll make it before your sobs spill out.
Locking the door, you turn on the shower and sit on the toilet, back hunching as you lay your arms on your lap and cover your face, sobs finally spilling out as you try to desperately think about what to say to your dad tomorrow.
What are you gonna say to Mikey and the others?
Are you going to leave the gang?
How are you gonna explain all this to your dad?
You spend an hour in the bathroom, crying your eyes out, mind muddled with what you’re supposed to do when the sun comes shining through once more, jumbled thoughts about what you’re gonna say to your dad tomorrow. But when you make your way to your room and rest on your bed, you will yourself to sleep, the ache in your bones helping with making you fall into unconsciousness. Not a single hint as to what tomorrow has for you.
Tumblr media
Waking up early, you quickly get ready for school, eyes a little swollen from just how hard you cried last night but instead of panicking, you made up an excuse in your head to be ready for when your friends question you.
Taking your bag, you sling it on your shoulder before silently creeping in your parents’ bedroom. Your dad asleep on the bed while your mum passes you, mumbling about how she’s probably gonna be late to work if she doesn’t go now. Slipping into the room, you silently make your way to your dad’s side, a heavy smell drifting in the room, the scent feeling heavy in your lungs as you try your best to not inhale it for long.
Looking down at your dad, you quickly place a chaste kiss to his cheek, lips pressing onto his slightly cold cheek but you don’t notice it. Not when you’re trying your best to not inhale the heavy air, scent almost making you nauseous as you quickly slip out of the room.
Bidding your mother and brother goodbye, you exit the house, mind finally clearing up in order to be ready for school and work.
Tumblr media
You’re in the middle of work when your boss - your sister’s friend - calls you, making you halt your dishwashing duties as you wipe your hands on a towel and make your way to her. You warily take the phone from her hand, the look on her face making you feel all panicky as you put the phone to your ear, your sister’s voice quickly greeting you.
“Papa’s gone.” She croaks out.
Silence.
You don’t know what to say.
Maybe it’s the surprise exam earlier that’s making your head a little slower than usual, or maybe you’re still preoccupied with work, but you can’t quite comprehend what she just said.
The phone call ends after a few more seconds of your silence and you turn to your boss who’s face holds a look of sympathy as she gently takes the phone from your hand and pulls you in for a hug.
Accepting the hug, you let her caress your head even if you don’t know what exactly is going on.
What the hell does that even mean?
Papa’s gone?
Papa’s gone?
“Y/N, I’ll let you go home early, okay? Do you want me to call Shinichiro? So that he can pick you up?”
Papa’s gone...
Papa’s gone...
Your boss lets go of you, taking her phone out as she starts to dial up Shinichiro.
Papa’s gone...
Papa’s gone.
Oh.
Papa’s gone.
As if everything cleared up, you bow at your boss before heading to the backroom when you changed into your clothes, body going into autopilot as you mindlessly walk to the back of the cafe where your bike is.
Not even remembering to tell your boss that you’re going home. You hop onto the bike and drive home, mind now blank as you swerve on the road.
A loud honk from a car wakes you up from your stupor, eyes now clearing up as you immediately swerve to the right to avoid an oncoming car. Just like that, tears are clouding your vision once more.
You don’t know how you managed to make it home without causing an accident, but when you do, you see your mother hysterically crying by the living room while your grandparents look after your brother who’s silently playing in your room. Your oldest sister is outside by the porch, talking to someone on the phone, saying things about when they’ll pick up your dad. You can hear crying from your dad’s room. But you don’t go upstairs just yet. You sit yourself on the floor where the dogs immediately run over to you, they nuzzle your face as you pet them, hoping that this will calm you down now that the situation is finally crashing onto you, emotions going haywire as you listened to your mother’s cries and your sister’s stoic words from outside.
Noticing your still form, your mother silences her cries as she motions for you to head to their room where your dad probably was.
Taking the dogs with you, you seek comfort in their warmth as they follow you to the room. Your sisters walk out as soon as they see you. Taking their place on your dad’s, you stare at his face.
He looks like he’s peacefully sleeping.
He doesn’t look like he’s gone.
He’s right there,
He’s sleeping right there.
What do they mean that he’s gone?
Reaching a hand out to the cheek that you kissed earlier this morning, you almost flinch with just how cold and firm his cheek was. Your hand trembles as you touch his cheek once more. The tender flesh now firm and hard. Unlike your own.
Your tears fall harder when you watch your dogs nuzzle your dad’s hand, rolling onto their backs as they wait for him to scratch their tummies much like how he usually does when he’s at home.
Grasping his hand, you rub your thumb against his hand, hoping that he’ll feel your touch and hold onto you tighter, hoping that this is all just some messed up joke that he played on you in order to make you feel bad for what happened last night.
Then, your thoughts started to spiral.
What if you’re the reason why he’s like this. You didn’t even get to say sorry. Didn’t even get to explain the situation. What if you caused all of this.
You know just how difficult everything is for him right now. Know how stressed your dad is from being in and out of the hospital for so long. Know how much pain he’s feeling from his physical wounds along with his heart condition. Knew that aside from all of that, your parents have been silently fighting whenever your mum would actually come home for the night.
And now, you just added to his problems.
You broke the dam that’s holding onto all of his problems.
You caused this, didn’t you?
You did all of this.
You did this to your own father.
You were selfish enough to not think about what would happen if you kept Toman to yourself. If you didn’t tell him. What would happen if you had gotten hurt? That will only add to the growing bills that your mum had to pay for. Your dad will be worried. Your selfishness brought this upon him, and your sisters, your mother and even your brother will hate you if they find out.
They’ll hate you. You caused this.
Guilt eats at you from the inside out, body heating up as you start to sob harder, lost in your own thoughts as you don’t even notice the door opening, nor do you notice two males walking in, along with a certain blonde female.
The only indication that you’re not alone anymore is when you’re engulfed in warmth. Body pressed against someone taller than you, their arms wrapping around your body, while someone holds your hand and another caresses your head.
Looking up, your eyes still blurry with tears and your nose clogged with snot, you hiccup when you see Shinichiro, eyes softened as he offers you a small smile. The sight of him makes you pause as you see the way he’s holding back tears, his smile shaking as he looks away from you. Turning to Mikey, he looks at you, tears freely flowing as he lightly pulls you towards him, lips gently pressing to your temple as he whispers ‘it’s gonna be okay’ over and over again. Lastly, Emma, who’s now leaning her head on yours. She can barely look at you as she cries onto your back. Sobs louder than yours as her hand falls from your head and to your shirt where she grips it much like how she did when you first met her.
With a shuddering breath, you pull Mikey into your embrace and bury your head onto Shinichiro’s chest, hoping that this warmth that you’re feeling will last forever.

GUYS GUYS EVERYONE HEAR ME OUT-
I think these 2 panels are pretty underrated cuz they hold deeper meanings than we actually think
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It might not be as deep and im just overthinking but let me explain myself
Well the first image obviously is Mikey licking the remainings of dorayaki off his face, while in the second image it's the dark impulse licking blood off his face.
I know it's probably not it, but it seems like the dark impulse is being fed by blood just like normal ppl are fed by food.
Or more specifically not blood...
but rather revenge.
To be more clear, try switching the text on the 2nd panel from "kazutora" to "the dark impulse". We'll get this text: "to make himself believe he wasn't the bad guy, the dark impulse decided you were his enemy" he says that while licking his own blood- or rather the dark impulse said that while licking Mikey's blood.
I don't know if anyone gets it but it looks more like foreshadowing about how the dark impulse's enemy is Mikey.
Alright alright... first, the dark impulse only appear when someone close to him dies (Baji, Draken...) and who does he attacks after ???? The one responsible ofc (and not actually the killer cuz Baji committed suicide and Draken was killed by some random dude) it's obvious the dark impulse only comes around when Mikey wants revenge for his loved ones.
But what does that have to do with anything??? Let me explain : you see the text summarizes what even is the dark impulse, it's nothing more than Mikey's brain naming his actions whenever he seeks revenge so he won't feel like the bad guy. Or simply put, Mikey is still Mikey when he avenged his close ones yet he created a version of himself in his brain and made himself the enemy without feeling like the bad guy.
Also really stupid remark, but i guess that's why it's called Tokyo REVENGEers.... no ??? No, okay...
And after some research, i think that Mikey have schizophrenia.
Tumblr media
Not to be an extra but that's EXACTLY what Mikey and his dark impulse are.
Breakdown in the relation between thought, emotion and behaviour ?? Check.
Faulty perception, inappropriate actions and feelings ?? Check. (That's exactly what Manila Mikey timeline is all about)
Withdrawal from reality and personal relationships ?? Check. (Bonten Mikey)
A sense of mental fragmentation ?? Check. (All the fucking timelines)
Also have a look at the rest of the informations :
Tumblr media
Y'all can NOT tell me this isn't Mikey. Seriously.
I can stay up all night rereading the manga and bringing a panel for each one of these. (But tbh most of these are more noticable in chibi revengers series which is pretty weird)
Also look at this
Tumblr media
Mikey's dark impulse defiently didn't start when Shinichiro died, he didn't go crazy trying to kill Kazu or Baji cuz he was just a kid and wasn't really that seeking for revenge, but in fact it began when he became a teen.
"Troubled relationships" ahem Sanzu ahem Bonten ahem legit pretty much his entire friend group excluding Draken and Mitsuya ahem
"poor schoold performance" that was introduced to us in a chibi revengers ep, and it seemed like some funny joke and all like 'oh would you look at that Mikey is so lazy and Draken is his babysitter hahaha' but boy i don't think it's a joke anymore...
"Reduced motivation" V E R Y. Like boy let's Draken carry him around in his back after he sleeps for the 20th time in a day from EATING. Jokes aside, it doesn't look like he feels like doing alot of stuff in the entire series, the "normal" Mikey doesn't even feel like walking and let's Draken carry him.
Alsoooo, another point that Mikey himself is the first one who mentioned the dark impulse to Takemitchy and in general,
Tumblr media
another proof it's a delusion from his brain so everything will make sense to him, just like Kazutora but in a different way cuz Kazu blamed another person while Mikey blamed himself (kinda)
IN A NUTSHELL OF WHAT IM TRYNA SAY : There is no dark impulse but in fact Mikey putted the blame of whenever he avenges for his friends on a delusional non-existent split personality of him because of schizophrenia, and Mikey & the entire tokrev series's searched main enemy is Mikey himself. Send tweet.
But wait wait...
Does this mean that Mikey is evil ??? No. Not at all. He just needs to be in a safer environment like Kazu aND GO SEE A FUCKING THERAPY ALONG WITH EVERYONE ELSE IN THIS DAMN SHOW!!!! AND CAN ALL PROBLEMS STOP PILING UP ON HIS SHOULDERS PLEASE ??????!!!!!! Thank you.

i don't know if you're watching the tokyo revengers anime but the latest episode with shinichiro.. was so much heavy animated my god i suddenly don't want this arc to continue to baji's nope LMAO
YES IM WATCHING THE ANIME WHY IS BAJI'S CHILD VOICE SO DEEP????
i couldn't even handle the worst parts of the ep bc i was laughing too hard 😭 but also idk why ppl are complaining about the anime, the only grievance i had was the censoring of the manji symbol. the animation isn't bad at all that it warrants half the fandom complaining about the adaption like ppl literally learned about how bad animators have it and how so many of them are overworked and on the verge of mental breakdowns and said i do Not See It

On Knov and his characterisation
Alright, I’m nearly done with hxh and I’ve been wanting to talk about Knov for quite a while now.
Knov was first introduced as your typical know-it-all, self proclaimed smartass character. He didn’t think much of Gon and Killua either. Which is why when they told him about how terrifying Pitou’s aura was, he dismissed them.
Ofcourse this was a really rude, almost cruel thing to do. They’re just kids after all. But that’s precisely why he said it. They’re only twelve years old, he hasn’t even seen them in action yet, neither does he know how mature they are for their age. Moreover, at that point, he hadn’t felt their aura. Morel and Knov only stood at a distance, while Netero was fighting the ants in Knov’s nen space. In other words, none of them actually knew how frightening Pitou’s aura was up close.
Besides, isn’t it perfectly natural for an adult (and experienced) person to underestimate what a child goes through? It’s not even like it’s just a trope for writing, it’s a real thing that happens. There are only a few rare occasions where an adult actually sees a child and understands what they’re capable of. Case in point in this context: Netero. But that in no way should be an argument for Knov’s standing, because that’s just human nature, which again is a widely explored topic in this arc.
Up until Knov had to actually infiltrate the palace, he was shown to be calm and cool-headed. Even when he was with Morel at NGL keeping watch on the chimera ant nest, he didn’t outright display any signs of distress. In fact, he spent most of his time reading.
It’s very easy for us to label him as a “condescending dickhead” because unlike him, we have all of the information. We know exactly what’s going on in the chimera ant nest, we know what Gon and Killua actually underwent in their brief exchange with Pitou, we know about their relatiionship with Kite, and so on. When a pair of kids come and tell you about how frightening someone else’s aura is (also: someone who you haven’t even met yet), you’re bound to think they’re exaggerating, or that they’re just not experienced enough to understand the situation. And that’s exactly what happened.
Knov willingly undertook the task of setting up the portals within East Gorto. Of course he was anxious, but determined nonetheless, because this was something only he could do. And it was absolutely imperative for him to succeed, otherwise the plan would not follow through. As he progressed with his infiltration, he got more and more tense. Honestly, it’s a marvel that his own heartbeat didn’t deter him.
Knov’s thought process was laid bare in this episode. He critically analyses his surroundings and each situation. This isn’t a product of experience alone, but of reading all of that literature as well. When he actually did confront a subordinate ant, he immediately reacted in the quietest way possible, and ensured that the body would not be left in sight. He even noticed the blood on his shoes and abandoned them in order to finish what he had come there for.
And then came the moment when he was hidden by the staircase, and witnessed Pouf’s En. He was stricken with panic. If it were Gon or Killua, they would obviously be terrified, but they would also know that it wasn’t as powerful as Pitou’s aura. Knov on the other hand thought it was Pitou’s to begin with.
Here’s the thing: Knov was already considerably panicked, having almost been found out, even if just by a subordinate. And he knew that something was off when he noticed that there was no En surrounding the Palace like usual. Therefore the pressure was much higher; this chance was not going to present itself again and if he didn’t succeed, the whole team would pretty much be doomed.
He was already breaking on the inside when he was creating the last exit. We need to give him credit for being able to create it at all, anyone else would have simply fled. Even in that dire state of panic and hopelessness, he finished his job and escaped.
It’s only when he’s well out of reach does he actually have a proper breakdown. And god, it was so brilliantly done. I have to mention Shinichiro Miki for delivering these lines so incredibly. I could feel Knov’s complete despair as he sat there and tried to grasp at anything that would help him pull through. I was moved to tears. It’s only now that he fully realises what Gon and Killua must have gone through, and he’s in absolute disbelief because these two kids, who aren’t even half his age, have gone through this much in the short time they’ve become hunters and are actually able to cope with it.
The difference between Knov and the kids is resolve. I’m not saying that Knov was spineless, but that Gon and Killua have a very real, concrete reason for standing up even after going through that much terror. They were directly impacted by it and saw themselves as hindrances to Kite in that situation, which is what spurred them on to save him. Knov on the other hand was of course well aware of the level of destruction the chimera ants were going to unleash, but he was not directly impacted by it. Of course a hero’s first thought should be to save people, but it is entirely human to want to save oneself. While Gon and Killua had a tangible motivator in order to fight, Knov did not.
Knov progressively becomes worse as the arc continues, immediately being afflicted with Marie Antoinette syndrome. As much as he wants to run, he still helps them out when necessary. It’s not like he has entirely abandoned the mission, he just no longer has the mental fortitude for it, which is entirely understandable! Instead of just retiring from the mission, he stayed on to support them, especially when it came to their fatal injuries during battle.
Which brings me to the matter of how Knov originally developed his ability. He does not actively involve himself in fighting, he lends his comrades support by using his Nen spaces. In other words, he leans more to the side of trickery when facing opponents. So even if he is battle hardened, it’s not in the same manner as the others. The fact that he is the first to have a mental breakdown is attributed to this.
Instead of taking his character at face value, I think it’s more appropriate to actually understand what happened to him. Even if hunters are much more advanced, they are still human. It’s important to keep that in mind when trying to evaluate their character.

Doctor Who: The Hiatusbreaker Update
In other fandoms, people have always talked about how their favourite show has been ruined by something. I never thought I’d see myself at the eye of the storm until The Timeless Children. I’ve let a lot of other things go up to that point, but this was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
The main reason why I wanted to make this update was to address my thoughts on the Series 12 finale, share some post-review reflections on previous episodes and talk about how I intend to deal with this series going forward. This post also coincides with a special watchalong of The Timeless Children (not part of Doctor Who: Lockdown) as part of the Doctor Who Day celebrations for 2020.
At the moment, I don’t have any Doctor Who-related things planned between Revolution of the Daleks and Series 13. I wrote a post back in May talking about some of the Doctor Who-related things released during lockdown, but I don’t have anything else at the moment. I have considered reviewing some old episodes in a special series, but I don’t know if there would be any point in it. I have been covering my personal project in the Kisekae Insights series, which is heavily influenced from Doctor Who (and tokusatsu), so feel free to check it out.
Going back to The Timeless Children
I usually write my reviews without having read other reviews in order to minimise bias. As such, there have been cases where I’ve had to address things I’ve missed in the review of the next episode, mostly because I’ve read other reviews addressing them. After mulling over my thoughts for the past 6-7 months, I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to write a follow-up about the Series 12 finale, and here it is.
One thing I would like to reiterate from my review of that episode is how Chibnall managed to diversify and whitewash the Doctor at the same time. If we’re supposed to believe, from the Master’s words, that the Doctor is the Timeless Child, then it means two things; the Doctor has been diversified thanks to Ruth and the Timeless Child’s incarnations, while the Timeless Child was whitewashed thanks to the previous known incarnations of the Doctor, who were all played by white actors. The only thing left is for the series to confirm the connection between the Doctor, Ruth and the Timeless Child, which is basically the only reason why I’m still watching this series at this point. Even if Chibnall decides to reverse the heavy retcons caused by the episode (which I think is highly unlikely), I’m still not going to forgive him for this.
That being said, I feel that the Timeless Child arc can go either one of two ways, given the information we already have. A good outcome would be to say that Ruth is the Timeless Child and the Doctor is merely a clone of her, which is why they have the same body, but not the same memories of each other, except maybe a link (which was how the Doctor managed to use the Timeless Child’s memories to get out of the Matrix). The bad outcome, which is what I think we’re heading for, is that the Doctor is the Timeless Child and that her previously known incarnations came after Ruth. This is just a quick and simple breakdown I thought up; the arc could go in a different way that we weren’t expecting, which could potentially be better or worse than what we’ve seen already.
Why did I pinpoint Ruth as the “final” incarnation of the Timeless Child, so to speak? I think that the older Brendan getting his memories removed in the visions of Ireland in the Matrix is actually Ruth after she was turned in to the Division. Ruth wanted to leave the Division and they were willing to grant her wish, but they had to capture her first so they could remove her memories, which is how Fugitive of the Judoon happened. As such, the “Morbius Doctors” could be placed between the Timeless Child’s incarnations and Ruth, if we’re playing by their logic.
There was something else that I missed from that episode. Some reviewers stated that when Tecteun was experimenting on the Timeless Child in order to uncover the secret of regeneration, she was essentially killing them multiple times, which is more horrifying given the fact that they are a child and the incarnations shown are played by children. I can understand why these reviewers would think that, given that the regeneration of a Time Lord means the death of an incarnation and the birth of a new one, but honestly, the thought never crossed my mind when I first watched the episode. It didn’t have any bearing on my opinions when I wrote the review and even if it did, they wouldn’t change much.
I honestly can’t believe how the episode tried to pull an Ultraman Orb and have the Doctor essentially telling herself that she isn’t limited by who she was after giving us a 45-minute canon-breaking exposition dump. It’s almost like Chibnall thought we would forget about this arc because it either didn’t matter or because there were more pressing things happening at the time, but luckily for him, a lot of people managed to see through that. In pretty much every Ultraman series since Orb in 2016, there’s always an arc that shows the main character having an identity crisis, then gaining a new power after overcoming it.
Putting that into perspective, Doctor Who has previously explored the Doctor’s dark side and other aspects that he either forgot or never thought he had in the first place. At the same time, it has also explored how the Doctor serves as a hero, a healer, or just a doctor. The “forgotten past” thing was already explored previously with the War Doctor; the Timeless Child arc only served to give the Doctor excessive mystery and elevate the Doctor to an even godlier status beyond the Time Lords, who were already godly enough as they were.
And let’s not forget how this arc irreparably broke canon in a way nobody else would have dared to do. I don’t understand how some people felt this was groundbreaking when it only served to complicate the story even more. Anyone who unironically thinks this probably doesn’t care as much about canon integrity than I do. Kamen Rider Zi-O has been criticised by fans for breaking canon integrity, but I don’t have much of a problem with it since everything was returned to normal in the end (or at least it had to). Producer Shinichiro Shirakura is another source of ire for fans in regards to canon integrity (among other things), but I digress. I’ve compared Chibnall to Shirakura before, but if I had a choice, I’d probably pick the latter over the former.
It goes without saying that the Timeless Child arc would have been less problematic if it were done earlier, say in place of the Steven Moffat era. The Moffat era cemented the twelve regeneration limit and established that the Eleventh Doctor was the final incarnation in the Doctor’s first regeneration cycle; before Series 7, the Timeless Child arc as it is would have fit perfectly well with or without the regeneration cycle question.
Moffat era hindsight aside, it also goes without saying that that arc would have been less problematic if the Timeless Child wasn’t the Doctor. As I said in that episode, they could have been some unknown kid that Tecteun and the Time Lords were exploiting for their powers of regeneration. From there, we could still explore the Timeless Child’s origin and confirm their link to the Doctor by saying that the Doctor (as we know him) was actually a clone of the Timeless Child (like I theorised for the arc’s good outcome).
Some people believe that the arc would have been better if the Master was actually the Timeless Child, but personally, I don’t think it would work that way. The Master’s past is just as complicated as the Doctor’s and let’s not forget that there is still the question of Ruth’s existence to be answered. Like I said, I would rather have the Timeless Child be an entirely original character altogether instead of shoehorning it into an established character’s history, particularly in a show with 57 years of history behind it. I wouldn’t even wish this arc on my worst enemy, to be honest.
With or without this arc, I think that destroying Gallifrey for a second time, after it was anticlimactically restored in Hell Bent, is just unnecessary. That episode aside, how has nobody managed to think up of a story arc for the Valeyard in the years since the revival of the series? We’ve gone past the window for the Valeyard’s creation and all we got out of it was some allusions in the Moffat era.
Remember that we only have the Master’s words and redacted Matrix information as evidence for the Doctor being the Timeless Child; we still don’t have any solid proof on how that came to be. We don’t even fully know how Ruth fits in to all this. I look forward to seeing a resolution to this in Series 13.
Loose thoughts on previous episodes
Continuing with the pattern from the above segment, I’m going to give some post-review follow-ups for some important things in the rest of Series 12 and some episodes in Series 11.
Racism - Looking back at Rosa, I compared the instances of racism shown in that episode to some examples of left-wing racism I’ve heard from right-wing YouTubers and I’ve noticed that the left aren’t as blatant about it or they dress it up so that it doesn’t look like they’re being racist. In contrast, according to the left, right-wing racism seems more obvious even when disguised (particularly in the past when discrimination was accepted as a way of life), though I guess it only seems that way because news spreads fast in mainstream media and social media, sometimes putting comments out of context.
Jack Robertson - Remember that Donald Trump expy from Arachnids in the UK? I’m honestly wondering if Doctor Who unintentionally predicted Joe Biden while trying to satirise Trump because it was mentioned in that episode that Robertson was only running for president in 2020 because he hated Trump for decades. That being said, I still think it’s unlikely that Robertson would have run as a Republican presidential candidate. Also, I can’t believe I missed the opportunity to use “Yaz’s Mum” as a running gag in the review for that episode given how it was used in the episode itself.
LGBT representation - In the review for Resolution, I mentioned that Richard (the security guard at MDZ) being gay doesn’t feel shoehorned compared to Frankie in Arachnids in the UK. I’ll own up to missing the mark on that one because I’m straight and I didn’t realise that Richard being killed 25 seconds after his debut made him just as shoehorned as Frankie (who was also killed in the episode). In contrast, LGBT characters who weren’t as shoehorned in Series 11 were Angstrom in The Ghost Monument (whose wife was killed by the Stenza, onore Tim Shaw) and James I in The Witchhunters (based in historical belief). I still think that they did it better in Praxeus with Jake and Adam. Also, let’s not forget that LGBT representation has been a thing in Doctor Who since the 90′s, with the debut of Jack Harkness in 2005 and the retconnings of past companions’ sexual orientations (like saying “oh, they were gay all along” which I’m a bit iffy on).
The Master - Since O’s debut in the series premiere, I’ve been struggling to fit that incarnation into the rest of the Master’s timeline. This was because in the Series 10 finale, Harold Saxon’s incarnation killed Missy with the full blast from his laser screwdriver, preventing her from regenerating.
Later on, two works were released that essentially confirm O as Missy’s future incarnation. In the Big Finish audio story The Lumiat, Missy used an Elysian field to break herself down and rebuild herself, giving her a new regeneration cycle in the process. The resulting incarnation called herself the Lumiat and had an adventure with a past Missy, only to be shot by her and left on another planet to regenerate.
In the 2021 edition of the Doctor Who Annual, there is a short story detailing a conversation between the Thirteenth Doctor and O. O briefly reminisces about being Missy and how she spent too long in the Doctor’s company. Therefore, we can confirm that O’s incarnation comes after Missy instead of between Saxon and Missy as some people thought.
With this, my theory that Saxon didn’t give Missy the full blast has been debunked, but my theory that the Master wouldn’t want to rob his future selves of chances to spite the Doctor still stands, even if it was unintentionally caused by the Master turning good for a while. I guess the Master’s ability to escape from predicaments is remarkable, yet unquestionable.
Police brutality - At the end of my review on Orphan 55, I expressed my disgust on climate protesters complaining about police brutality because the pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong have suffered more police brutality since 2014. After hearing about the police brutality in the various protests that have risen up this year, particularly in regards to the coronavirus and Black Lives Matter, my stance regarding the police has changed and I’m an ACAB person now. I’ll talk more about it in my end-of-year review post.
Chameleon Arch - In Fugitive of the Judoon, Lee Clayton served as Ruth’s “husband”, or protector, while she was hiding from the Time Lords on Earth. If Lee isn’t human, then what is he and how did he manage to disguise as a human? I had thought that Lee was not a Gallifreyan, but his interaction with Gat seemed to imply that he was. But if he was able to disguise himself as a human like Ruth while still being aware of her true nature, then it is possible that Lee also used a Chameleon Arch, just not on the full setting that would transform a Time Lord into a human and give them new memories. In the comic The Forgotten, the Eighth Doctor recalled to Chantir how he convinced the Master that he was half-human through the use of a broken Chameleon Arch, so it is possible that a fully working Chameleon Arch would also be able to do something like that. This is assuming that “bio-shield” is another name for said tool.
“I’m still quite socially awkward” - Yes, this is about that bit at the end of Can You Hear Me? when the Doctor was apparently being dismissive of Graham’s concern about his cancer coming back. I still stand by what I said about the Doctor being socially awkward, but I’ve softened my stance recently and I now believe that the Doctor’s reaction could have been a little different. It could have gone something like this: “I should say a reassuring thing now, shouldn’t I? I’m still quite socially awkward, but I just want you to know that you’ve got me, Ryan and Yaz in the TARDIS, and we’ll be there for you if anything happens, just as you have been there for us.”
I must give credit to this episode for helping me to open up about some of the (girl) friends I’ve lost during my years in high school and to reach out to an old fan of mine who was there when I started my English dub rants. In regards to the former, I’ve recently decided to fully open up about the one crush I had during high school and the storylines I made in my personal project with characters based around me and her. You can find it in Parts 15 and 16 of Kisekae Insights, but be warned - to put it simply, it’s pretty cringe and all over the place. If you decide to read it, then prepare to have your expectations subverted.
Regarding DWexit
Doctor Who Series 13 is currently in production and is projected to premiere in late-2021, with eight episodes instead of ten or eleven (if we’re counting festive specials). In the Series 12 epilogue, I mentioned that there may come a time where I feel that it is time for me to move on from the series, since it hasn’t been as good as it was before, the gaps between series just seem to be getting longer and longer with fewer episodes being made each series and the premiere schedule for each series hasn’t been regular for some time now.
While the main reason for these delays and episode cuts this time around is due to new regulations and protocols implemented as a result of the coronavirus, I think there could be another factor behind it, which is that the executive producers, Chris Chibnall and Matt Strevens, might not want to stress out the production team or themselves because they are inexperienced or because they know how stressful producing 13 episodes and a Christmas special can be (not counting spinoffs). I’ve been as grateful as I can be for being able to have new episodes to watch, but given everything that’s happened, I’m starting to recognise that even my gratefulness has its limits.
To be honest, I’ve never really had that much of a problem with the SJW stuff, which is why I may seem a bit lenient on that front, but I am wary of the criticisms that certain people have made in that regard. The bigger problem for me, in fact, is the possibility of the BBC pandering to China. In 2017, BBC Worldwide signed a deal with Shanghai Media Group for all the existing revival series episodes and spinoffs along with the first right of refusal for all future series up to Series 15 (this means that SMG will always be the first to be offered the rights for the series before the BBC can pass it on if they refuse). I had believed that the series was banned there because science fiction and time travel were its main themes, but I guess that may have just been a rumour.
SJWs somehow being low-key pro-China or whatever aside, there doesn’t seem to be any indication that Doctor Who is beginning to fall in that direction, at least not at this point in time. They’ve mostly stuck to the West in terms of political references, which I’m fine with, but the moment they talk shit about the Hong Kong protesters, that’s going to be a strike in my book.
Speaking of strikes for the series, I only have one for the Timeless Child; the one I gave for casting Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor is one I’m probably going to forgive. I could care less about the Thirteenth Doctor being a woman or an expy of the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors given how the Timeless Child arc turned out so far or is going to turn out in Series 13. The prospect of a second female Doctor (straight after the Thirteenth) doesn’t even seem that much of a problem to me despite me initially framing it that way.
As I said, the only reason why I haven’t given up on this series yet is mostly because I want to know how the Timeless Child arc plays out. Aside from that, I’ve been struggling to decide whether I want to give this series up and if so, when, because Doctor Who and tokusatsu are the only things I have left after giving up (following new) anime and video games years ago (along with Koei Tecmo and their fanbase). As for this review series, I’m planning to end it at the end of the Thirteenth Doctor’s run, because my intention was to review Jodie Whittaker’s episodes of Doctor Who. Barring the possibility of a third strike, I’ll probably remain a casual fan of the series after Whittaker leaves. I’m honestly hoping that Chibnall doesn’t give me a reason to give this series up, but regardless of this, I’ll always remember the Ninth to Twelfth Doctors as my golden era for Doctor Who.
Addressing rumours
I’m not one to talk about rumours like this, but when you’ve got a long time to wait before new episodes, there’s only so much you can do with what you have. Also, after watching The Timeless Children, I heard from Nerdrotic (my other alternative to Bowlestrek besides The Oldest Nerd) that the reveal was actually rumoured in November 2019 and that he predicted that the Doctor would be revealed as originally being female.
Given my thoughts on Series 12, I became sceptical at other rumours I’ve heard about Series 13 and considered whether they would end up being the case. I’m going to address a few rumours that I’ve heard and discuss the probability of them coming true. Coincidentally, they come from Noel of The TARDIS Zone YouTube channel, but I’ll link to this article that has used one of his videos.
TARDIS exterior changing - Apparently, due to the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, the exterior of the TARDIS might be changed due to how the police are seen by the public. I would probably like it if the chameleon circuit was fixed; like Evolto, the TARDIS could still keep its current exterior as a preferred form, choose a new exterior as a preferred form or adapt to its surroundings. I wouldn’t really like it if the chameleon circuit was fixed only to have it break again in a different form and use Black Lives Matter as a means of justifying it. Aside from this, if people had a problem with the police box design of the TARDIS, why hasn’t there been any major outcry about it before?
Thirteenth Doctor being bisexual - Honestly, given the Yaz favouritism I’ve seen in the series, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up shipping her with the Doctor. Even then, has the Doctor’s sexuality ever come into question or been a question that needs to be answered? We’ve seen Captain Jack kiss the Ninth Doctor in The Parting of the Ways and in the past, the Doctor has never necessarily cared about his sexuality most of the time (particularly in the Classic Series).
Planet of same-sex couples - Didn’t they already do this in The Tsuranga Conundrum? Oh wait, I might have gotten the wrong idea...
Davros is a puppet for a female Kaled warlord (1:21 in video) - “haha Hitler was whipped lol” - I’m sorry, I just had to make that joke given that the Daleks have been compared to the Nazis. I don’t think that would happen because there’s no evidence that some woman was manipulating Hitler behind the scenes. Plus, there’s the problem of Terry Nation’s estate to get past, because people apparently need permission to use other people’s things. I don’t think they would approve.
Thirteen to apologise for past mistakes (1:36 in video) - I don’t see why this needs to be a thing if it ends up happening. There’s a reason why people say things like “don’t dwell on the past, but learn from your mistakes”. It doesn’t mean going back and correcting them because sometimes, there are things that just can’t be helped.
In April 2020, during the first run of Doctor Who: Lockdown, Paul Cornell released a story named The Shadow in the Mirror which showed the Thirteenth Doctor freeing Daughter of Mine from the mirror (every mirror) that the Tenth Doctor trapped her in at the end of Human Nature/The Family of Blood. As I said in the post about Doctor Who: Lockdown, I wouldn’t have seen the need to free Daughter of Mine, let alone the Family of Blood. Remember why the Doctor gave them their punishments in the first place? What’s stopping Daughter of Mine from freeing the rest of her family so they can go back to seeking immortality again?
I think it was pretty short-sighted of Paul Cornell to write that story, plus it was an excuse for him to use the free pass given by The Timeless Children to make the Thirteenth Doctor a Mary Sue. Also, who’s to say that he probably wrote it on a whim once he heard that they were going to do tweetalongs of those episodes?
Chibnall recasting Second, Third and Fourth Doctors as women (from different video) - The rumour says that Ruth would be the replacement for the Second Doctor. I know Chibnall was being stupid with the Timeless Child arc, but surely he isn’t that stupid, because all this will do is complicate canon even more. Therefore, I don’t think it will end up happening, but I wouldn’t really put it past Chibnall to do it; for the record, if I learned about the Timeless Child rumour last year, I would have had the same reaction as well.
Series 13 to be Chibnall and Whittaker’s final season (different source) - Remember “chaos in Cardiff” back in August last year? The state of Doctor Who nowadays must be pretty bad if these rumours are making people hope that they’ll leave sooner rather than later. Usually, revived series showrunners usually work for two Doctors and Doctors usually do three series (as a tradition started by Patrick Troughton in order to prevent being typecast). Jodie Whittaker leaving after Series 13 would be likely since it will be her third series, but Chris Chibnall leaving with her would be strange to see. Honestly, I’m not bothered about when they’ll leave; I’m just here to enjoy the ride.
Christmas Special things
Signs are pointing to Revolution of the Daleks being a Christmas special, so I’m going to presume that that will be the case. Let’s take a look at a couple of things that I’ve heard in preparation for it.
First of all, I’m glad I waited until this point to post this, because at the time of writing this, I just saw confirmation that John Barrowman will be returning as Captain Jack Harkness. As if we didn’t work it out already when he returned in Fugitive of the Judoon. Frankly, I would have been surprised if he didn’t return, given how he didn’t return for The Timeless Children.
Secondly, it’s been reported that this special will mark the departure of Graham and Ryan, but the prospect of them returning in Series 13 hasn’t been ruled out. Tosin Cole has been cast in the AMC drama 61st Street, but given the impact of the coronavirus in the US, production of the series has been scheduled to begin in 2021 (in this article from August), so it wouldn’t be surprising if Ryan had some cameos in Series 13 alongside Graham as well. Such a shame that not a lot of focus was put on Ryan’s dyspraxia.
Look forward to the review when it comes out after Christmas Day or New Year’s Day (if my predictions are wrong).
UPDATE - 30 November 2020: So the trailer for the special has been released and it’s going to be released on New Year’s Day. I probably should have expected this; either the BBC doesn’t think Christmas is politically correct or they would rather put better shows on Christmas Day. Either way, it’ll be a hiatusbreaker episode, just like this post.
I’ve also learnt that Chris Noth is reprising his role as Jack Robertson, which is something I didn’t expect to see. It’ll be interesting to see whether he ends up being president in this episode, though from the looks of the trailer, I wouldn’t think so. His promotion of the Daleks in the trailer (“These machines are going to change the world!”) harkens back to Winston Churchill in Victory of the Daleks, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that episode ends up getting ripped off.
One thing I forgot to mention - what happened to the remaining humans who came back to the 21st century, namely Ravio, Yedlarmi and Ethan? I hope they make an appearance in the special, because it would be a waste of they weren’t.
Before I finish up, there is one more thing I want to mention: why the hell can’t I get into the Doctor /who/ General forums now? Those guys used to be on 4chan, then they moved to 8chan, then they moved to a separate forum when that got shut down and they didn’t bother to go back when it was revived as 8kun. Since the end of Series 12, you need a password to go in now and I’ve been unable to find out why that is the case.
Anyway, that’s it for the hiatusbreaker update. Stay safe and I’ll see you all again at Christmas time.

Heyyy can I ask headcanons for Mikey's s/o who's a really deep thinker and close friends with the others, offering literature quotes and stuff to Toman's leaders whenever something comes up and all?
Thank you if you can, but if you on't want to its okay!❤
❀ DEEPER CONVERSATIONS | TOKYO REVENGERS 🤍 sano manjiro 💿 gender neutral, second pov (you/your), fluff, found family, established relationship, au - everyone lives / nobody dies, timeline: highscchool, headcanon 📅 july 02, 2021 🔗 masterlist ,, song: deeper conversations
sano manjiro's s/o is a deep thinker, wise, and naturally curious of everything. they are also tired of toman's shit, so there's that.
Tumblr media
☆ Despite how he acts, Mikey is actually quite smart. That kind of person who’s not book smart but rather street smart, socially smart as well.
☆ But it was still such a shocker when they found out that he was dating you.
☆ Not that you were bad (you’re fucking amazing), they were just thrown off-guard by your personality and keen understanding. It was mainly because you called Baji out the first time you met him, saying something that he shouldn’t lie to Mikey which just shook everyone because what.
☆ They were all wondering how the fuck you even picked that up and realized that instead of fully immersing yourself in the conversation, you were observing all of them instead along with the little things going around the cafe. It was only until later they noticed that it was Mikey who was speaking, not you.
☆ Mitsuya thought that this was a really dangerous pair, a match made in hell. While Mikey was a tactile genius, you were extremely observant and naturally curious about everything, always willing to learn and share that learning to learn more about what you know and what you don’t.
☆ Which means Draken is fucking afraid of you and Baji got really interested.
☆ More often that not, when Toman members see you, you were either dilly dallying and daydreaming or reading a book and staring at it judgmentally.
☆ Takemichi has been inspired by one or two quotes you’ve offered him before. He had it written out and pasted on the wall as to be motivated to do basically everything every time he sees it.
☆ Chifuyu did it as well and it worked.
☆ Inui just steps in a library one day and forgets how to breathe because Takemichi and Chifuyu are in there, studying instead of fooling around.
☆ They’re good kids, and they’re gonna go far if they actually tried. You quite like them.
☆ Kazutora had gone to you for advice before. You had the habit of letting him let it all out first as to get rid of weight in his heart before you offer him stone-cold but well-thought out advice. You didn’t bother to sugarcoat it and Kazutora deeply appreciates that.
☆ Next thing you know, you had people coming to you for advices or help. Hell, even one person from your class asked about what they should do to make sure the person they’re going out with still loves them. You do not know why the fuck they’re asking you that. You’re not the goddamn school counsellor.
☆ After that, Toman just… goes to you. Oh, failed your exam? Go ask Y/n some study tips. Can’t understand the lesson? Y/n’s amazing at breaking it down for you to understand better. Killed someone? Y/n’s going to hit you for doing something so stupid. (But Y/n will also help you bury the body, don't tell Mikey.)
☆ Mikey depends on you for literature or history homework. He doesn’t understand a single thing, especially when it’s a piece of work in another language.
☆ He had to read The Great Gatsby for a class and no, he does not know what the fuck is a foil. Called you at three AM on the brink of snapping because fuck high school.
☆ It was worse when he had to read Kokoro on senior year.
☆ Mikey had a real struggle with that, went through an identity crisis, two breakdowns, an existential crisis, and Izana called him a “brainless doll” which ensued a fight. Shinichiro had a headache from that.
☆ It’s not that you're shy but you’re usually closed off with people, usually deep in your mind and thinking about the most bizarre thing. Nahoya had witnessed you suddenly bang your desk in the middle of free period and sit up as if you just thought of a solution for climate change.
☆ Mitsuya just full-on adores you.
☆ Ngl, if they murder someone, they’re going to you. No questions asked.
☆ Out of spite, you’ll probably hand them Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment again. (But again, will still help them bury the body. It's a love-hate relationship.)
☆ Have the weirdest but most creative ideas ever and in group tasks, Toman has fought over you before.
"Y/n’s my s/o! I get to be partners with her for this work!" "You're only going to bring them down! Y/n's going to prefer someone that's going to pull their own weight." "You're not even in the same class as them!"
☆ Again, out of pure spite, you asked the teacher if you could work solo and she agreed. You passed that project with flying colors, having made a presentation about Little Women, while Baji and Mikey mourned.
☆ Baji calls you way past midnight, asking weird questions. What’s even weirder is that you actually answer them with acceptable responses. Your answers may not be right but you made it seem like it.
☆ Because he loves you, Manjiro went to a lecture with you once. Actually learned a thing or two.
☆ Quotes random books or movies every now and then, and soon enough, Mitsuya actually picked up the habit.
☆ It wasn’t long before Draken started doing it as well, mostly for fun, also because he wants to try and broaden his knowledge after you caused him an existential crisis. (He does it to piss Mikey off when he's doing something stupid.)
☆ Mikey jokingly accused you of stealing his friends.
“They like me better though?”
☆ They do. They actually do. Manjiro doesn’t quite mind.

With trembling hands, you drove the car into a warehouse, tires screeching as you abruptly halt the car, door swinging open as you rush out, calling out for your subordinates as you instruct them to take the body on the passenger seat.
“Boss, No. 2 called, he’s asking what you wanna do to the warehouse.” One of your trusted subordinates asks, eyes following the body that’s being carried out of your car.
Lighting up a cigarette, you take a puff before blowing the smoke out, body buzzing with adrenaline from your little escape from the authorities. “Tell Sanzu to take all his belongings then burn the whole building. Don’t leave any traces.”

It’s been two days since you started ignoring your mother due to her acting off whenever she’d see you. You never tried talking to her about it, the look on her face always making you feel weird. The things that she’d say under her breath freaking you out which is why you’ve only been coming home for a change of clothes. You’ve also taken the dogs and brought them to the Sano household while your brother is back to staying with your grandparents.
It’s a mess.
Your family is back to being scattered around Tokyo once more, but for some reason, it feels wrong. Feels like you’re all drifting apart. It’s unlike how everything was before your dad died. It feels like the space between all of you is becoming permanent and it scares you. But at the same time, you’re fine with it.
You don’t have much to miss anyways, barely seeing your mother nor your sisters, your brother always being with your grandparents due to no one being home to take care of him except for you.
But you set aside your worries for now.
Excitement pumped through your veins the entire day, your unusual happiness taken as a good sign by your friends since they haven’t seen you this happy ever since what happened to your dad 3 weeks ago.
Everything still feels heavy, emotions still going haywire, but just for this week, 8 days before Mikey’s birthday, you set aside the grief. Set aside the growing guilt. Set aside the emptiness. Just for Mikey. Just for Shinichiro’s secret present that he told you about the other day in hopes of distracting you. It worked. Your mind now going into overdrive on how you’re going to top Shinichiro’s birthday present, not wanting to be one-upped by the smug ex-leader.
Walking back to the Sano household, you kiss Emma on the forehead as a greeting, the girl giving you a tight hug before walking out, saying something about meeting with Draken.
Shrugging, you start looking around for Dora and Yaki, but you don’t see them anywhere. Not when you stopped by the dojo, not when you looked around the small garden, not when you walked around the house. Mikey isn’t home as well. Probably having a meeting for Toman. Something that you rarely attend due to your growing aversion to being active in gang activity. Your dad’s words still present in your mind, even when you try to talk yourself out of it.
Going to Shinichiro’s room as a last resort, you hope that you’ll see him inside with the two dogs splayed on the coach, playing with one of his socks or something, but instead, you’re met with an empty room.
Slowly, the familiar feeling of panic grows in your chest.
Running towards where grandpa was, you asked him if he’d seen the dogs. “Hmm? Well, I called you earlier because I saw one of them peeing blood but you didn’t respond so I called your mum since I remembered you saying something about one of them needing medicine or something. When your mum arrived, she took both of them, saying that she’ll take them to the vet.”
Quickly thanking grandpa, you run to your bike, heart racing as you drove to the vet.
Your heart sinks, seeing the clinic closed. There’s no other clinic in this part of town, and you know that your mum won’t be driving for half an hour just to bring the dogs to the vet, so with that in mind, you drive back home. Hoping that your hunch is right and that your mum just took the dogs home to wait for you.
It takes a few excruciating minutes for you to drive back home, bike parked right outside the door as you slam the door open, eyes frantically looking around, their names tumbling out of your lips as you call for them, desperately waiting for them to run up at you, for them to claw at your pants, waiting for you to pet and carry them around the house.
You wait.
And wait.
And wait.
But they don’t come running over, instead, your mum walks out of the kitchen, sad smile on her face as she tries to give you a hug.
Taking a step back, away from her embrace, you stare at her. “Where are they, mama? Where’s Dora and Yaki? Grandpa said you took them. Where are they.” She continues to give you a sad smile.
It makes you want to hurl. Makes you want to shout at her to answer you instead of giving you that smile.
“Mama.. where are they?” You ask, afraid of what her answer is gonna be now that she’s staring at you right in the eye, you try to avert her gaze but she only makes you look back at her. Her hands on your cheeks.
“They’re dead, darling. I’m sorry-”
“No! They can’t be dead. They can’t just die! That’s not how it works, mama! They were fine this morning. They were just fine!” You scream, hands ripping her hands off your cheeks as you push her away, tears streaming down your face once more. It seems as if you can’t stop crying these past few weeks.
“One of them was peeing blood, what did you expect?!” She tries to convince you but you only shake your head.
“No, it’s not supposed to be deadly, I could have taken them to the vet and they would have been fine!”
“Take them to the vet?! With what money? You barely have money for food at school and you’re planning on using my money on those two mongrels?!”
Her words make your chest sting, making it difficult for you to breathe as you process her words. “I have my own money, I work hard, I have money for them... Papa said to take care of them, that if I care for them properly, they’ll be fine. If they’re sick, I’ll bring them to the doctor like what you did with papa, cause you love him. I love them, so I’d do the same. I'll take them to the doctors and then they’ll be well.” You’re starting to babble, words not making sense as the panic eats at you whole. “You’re lying, aren’t you... they’re not dead, right? They’re not dead.”
Looking up at your mother, your stomach drops when you see the miniscule change in your mother’s face. Your father told you about this, how your mother’s jaw locks a little whenever she lies. And just now, her jaw locked. You saw it. You saw it with your own eyes. Saw it when you mentioned Dora and Yaki not being dead.
“They’re not dead. You’re lying... where are they, mama? Where’d you put them?”
It takes a few seconds for your mother to answer, eyes averting from yours as she finally lets the truth fall out. “I gave them away.”
You don’t know what you felt right there. Was it hope? Knowing that your dogs aren’t actually dead? Or was it betrayal? Hearing your mother admit to her giving them away. Your mother giving away the dogs that you’ve been with for years, the dogs that your dad helped you raise.
“What... wh-why would you, why would you give them away? Mama, why would you do that.. why. They... papa gave them to me. He gave them to me, mama. Why would you do that? They’re all I had from him. All I had of him. He even helped me name them.” You let out an empty chuckle at the last part but the tears flowing down your cheeks makes you taste your own tears. Your mind unwillingly reminding you of the night when your dad just brought the two dogs home. It makes you feel hysterical as you only watch your mum stand in front of you, not saying anything else.
“They’re not yours to give away, why would you do that, mama? Why would you do that?!” Screaming, you make your way to her taller figure, hands grasping her arms as you do your best to grip onto her, scared that you’ll lose yourself with just how painful the sting in your chest is feeling. It makes breathing hard, makes your throat choke up on your words.
Finally snapping out of her stupor, your mother tries to calm you down. Her voice gentle as she guides you to the couch, but your form stays rooted by the doorway. “I’ll just give you a new dog, okay darling? I’ll get you a better dog.”
Furiously shaking your head, you try to get away from her. “No no no no no no! I don’t want a new dog! I want them back! I... I just want him back...” Crumbling to the floor, you pull your knees to your chest, hands making their way to your hair, pulling at them as you start sobbing.
You continue to sob as you feel hands on your cheeks, forcing you to look up. Her hold on your cheeks get tighter as she tries to stop you from crying, but then, the door bursts open, Shinichiro stepping inside while his chest heaves, trying his best to breathe in, then his eyes spot you on the floor, breaking down while your mother’s hands grip your face.
“Y/N... “
Swiftly making his way to you, he ushers your mother away from you, his words making her freeze as she watches him take you into his embrace, slowly carrying you out of the house. “You’re hurting your own daughter, L/N-san. Please get away from her.”
Tumblr media
You finally calm down after a few minutes of crying onto Shinichiro’s chest while he sits on the couch, his shop now closed to give you privacy.
“I’ll help you look for them, okay? I’ll even ask Takeomi, Wakasa and Arashi to help look around Tokyo, sounds good?” He whispers, hand running through your hair.
Standing up, you give him a nod, eyes still teary as you get up to take a water bottle, throat dry from all the crying. “You must think I’m childish, crying over my dogs... “ You mumble.
Shaking his head, Shinichiro gives you an assuring smile. “I know how much you love them, in fact, Mikey always tells me stories about you with Dora and Yaki. Said something about them being your kids.” Shinichiro chuckles at that, amused with the many stories that he’s hear Mikey and even Emma tell him about the two dogs.
“Well, do you promise to help me look for them tomorrow?” You question before washing your face in the sink, the cool water helping you soothe the burning skin of your face.
“Of course, I promise. I’ll find them even if it’s the last thing I do.”
Tumblr media
Nobody prepared you for this.
You lost one.
Lost another one.
Then now.
The flashing red and blue lights make your eyes sting, the cold air nipping at your exposed arms even though one of them is in Mikey’s hold. Both of your figures being pushed around by the crowd as you watch.
You watch Kazutora get escorted by some officers, lips moving around as if mumbling something. You see Baji next, his hood falling off his head as he looks around the area, eyes wide in panic.
You don’t know what to do when his eyes meet yours.
You don’t know what to do when you catch a glimpse of Shinichiro, laying on the hospital’s stretcher.
You don’t know what to do when you hear Baji’s voice uttering Mikey’s name as he looks at the two of you with tears in his eyes.
You don’t know what to do when Mikey snaps out of it and pulls you closer to the vehicle where the officers tell the two of you to stay back.
You don’t know what to do when you’re forced to call grandpa, numbly telling him what happened.
Everything seems to go in a blur. Your mind not taking notice of anything happening around you. Mind blank for the next few days as you stay beside Mikey, both of you quiet and numb. Emma is hysterical once more. Tears never seeming to stop as you watch your mother help Mikey’s grandpa with setting up the funeral.
It’s terrifying.
It feels like you’re losing everything all at once.
It’s terrifying.
It’s like the more you hold onto the people closer to you, the more they slip away.
You can’t think properly.
Not when you’re supposed to be worrying about your studies instead of what to say to Baji and Kazutora who had broken into the shop and apparently hit Shinichiro straight in the head. Killing him.
You’re supposed to be worrying about what snacks you’d want to buy at school. You’re not supposed to be feeling this heavy feeling in your chest as you think about your dad, or Dora and Yaki. And specially not Shinichiro. Shinichiro who’s been your big brother ever since you first stepped into the dojo all those years ago.
He said that he’d help you look for Dora and Yaki. He said that he’d even make his friends help you. But why is he peacefully laying in a coffin, surrounded with flowers while you’re in the middle of Takeomi and Wakasa, both of them looking down on the floor, eyes glistening with tears as they hold your hand in an act of comfort. But it makes you feel worse when you can feel their hands shaking in yours.
Why are you in front of grandpa, Mikey and Emma, the three of them solemnly kneeling in front of Shinichiro’s still body, dressed in black. Much like what you and your family did, not even a month ago.
You don’t get it. He just promised. He promised he’d help you.
Shinichiro wasn’t a liar. You knew that. All the promises that he told you, Mikey and Emma. He kept them all. So why did he have to break the promise that mattered to you most.
Why?
Why did he have to turn into a liar now?
