definitely not thinking about what losing devon did to buck. the guilt, the self-destruction and then the clinging to the first ounce of affection he found. definitely not thinking about how knowing he’d lost a brother he didn’t even know pushed him down a very similar path and coupled it with anger. and then not thinking about what almost losing eddie did to him - wishing for all the bad things in life to come his way instead, kissing taylor out of desperation and taking care of chris through the guilt -. because then i’d think that it’s here and now that we see what switched inside buck, what his million small changes and big software updates were truly about. it’s here that we learn who he is now and why he’s not alone in this grief anymore. who is this man that can be scared and say ‘it’s okay. good things and second chances happen because of you, too, sometimes’. yup, definitely not thinking about that because it’d be pretty stupid lol

Everyone in the room for the first segment, Chris' birth, his parents meeting Chris, Shannon's mother, is either dead, failed Eddie, or both, so when Eddie is forced to consider the fact that maybe one day he won't be able to fight his way back, and he needs to decide on whoever is taking care of Chris, the most important thing in his life, he's not thinking about the possibility of Buck dying, yes, but he's also not considering the possibility of Buck failing him somehow. And that's huge considering it's right after the lawsuit and they've known each other for what? 2 years? I know we talked a lot about Eddie never considering the possibility of Buck dying until he did, but he also never considered the chance of Buck doing something that will make him regret picking him. The unwavering faith Eddie has on Buck is kind of impressive ngl.
