Please Help Me Find This Mysterious Song

Tumblr, I do not do this often, but please please can you help me with this? I know you are better than other websites who have all failed me so far... For many years I have been looking (alas, in vain) for a certain song. Very likely a novelty one, though I do not know – I have never caught its name nor the name of the singer. I heard it once or twice on a radio station which only aired retro songs, so it was probably from 1960–80s. Now this one song was sung from a first-person perspective – the singer (almost as desperate as I am) was a classical violinist who longed to be a rock n roll star, which is what he soulfully crooned in the refrain. It was a fun, bittersweet song and always reminded me of Kinks stylewise (though it is very likely not their song).

Nobody seems to know this song, no website or forum dedicated for searching for lost songs has ever helped me, whenever I type in the snippets of the lyrics I remember (for example, something like "the duke told the duchess that he thought that I had talent, the duchess winked at me and said Oh yes, it's quite apparent"), Google pretends it has never heard of it. But I know it exists (I have a witness who heard it with me) and I MUST find it. I will not have peace to die until I find this song. I will continue haunting this Earth as a mournful wraith unless I find it, which is a distressing notion.

Do you have any idea what it might be?

(My eternal gratitude for reblogs.) EDIT (30/11/2023): I think I might have lead all of you astray with the focus on duke and duchess. They are not that important, really. The singer himself, his desire to be a rock n roll star while he is stuck playing classical violin is the important part. But thank you all and please keep this post going, maybe someone will remember what godforgotten old song this is...

"Come on you nerd! Just let go! Let go!" Stanley Pines

In an alternate universe, Stanford Pines and Stanley Pines reconciled their differences several years earlier, and with Fiddleford MacGucket, they uncover paranormal activity within Gravity Falls in Disney's first  animated PG sci fi film from 1982. 

This had been an idea I had been musing in my head for a while. Yes, I am aware 'Stanuary' is officially over now, but I still wanted to go ahead and finish this. I wanted to do another piece that was meant to parody the look of 80's movie posters, similar to the Action Claus piece I did a year or two ago. But this time I used Tron as my base of inspiration for this one. This one was a bit more experimental for me as I had to use a lot of different tools to create the background than I normally would.

The hardest was probably creating the custom text for the title. I wasn't able to get the text to look like the one from the original Tron movie poster, but I still managed to give it a retro 80's feel. Sure, it probably would have been easier to find a text generator website to do that for me, but I wanted to try it for myself anyway.

I love how well this turned out!

I was rather upset when I found that there weren't any retro-arcade style brushes that were compatible with Photoshop/Gimp/Procreate. So I decided to create my own! And since it's nowhere else out there, and I believe in giving back to the community, this brush is absolutely free! No credit is needed. Synthesizers – about little squirrel and good little animals

So, I have in my pack of music instruments – midi keyboard for 49 keys. Blue color. Cool thing. It is AxelVox Key49j. And I doing music exercises with this music instrument. I am doing exercises with no connected instrument. So, in spring, I can say, it was started a new step for me. One more try. New attempt.

I know seven chords. One gamma. And I play three compositions from a textbook with exercises. And I am doing exercises with book “In music with joy”. So, it is also a drawn a little sun.

The best thing I can do it is little song – “squirrel”. And, also, it is “Ladushki” (hands something) and “Ice Mountain”. So, these three things I play. I train left and right hand separately. So, together I do no played it yet. So, I can say, first step is made towards to songs about little songs about good and kind animals!

That’s for sure! Little songs about good and kind animals. My theme. So, it will be some little animals there. So, really, something like it can be, like some little songs like composition little song – “Squirrel”, as it can be! But, for now, only melodies, it is, I think, it will be melodies now.  A skill to speak and sing – it is standalone skill. It is a little thing about a step. A first step, that was made.

Imagine for yourself, for example a duckling. Which can run around the green grass. About what music he can run? And later to jump into the river or lake. And paws he moves, he moves with paws, so funny into the water. And runs all over the water, or, even, swim. So, this is example. So, in form of melodies. Not a big length. Not hard.

And more, yellow chickens are running the grass. They have so big fun there. In a sunny day. Goose is running around a small lake. He spread his wings. He has a red beacon. Such a reddish. Little mouses are sitting somewhere in the fields, they are in their little house. Mole is digging a holes and doing plants of the trees. So, lots of music themes!

So it will be, as idea, funny melodies. About good and kind little animals. My friends. Which I can see soon. When I will go to a country house. In a grass, there are grasshoppers, they are good musicians. And also, a frogs are excellent singers. They are doing quak quak sounds very good. Maybe, I can meet there someone else. And all of these under the little sun. In a green grass. It is beautiful!

Such artistic idea and theme. And even more – synthesizer – it is about lots of sounds onboard. Very different electronic music. From more straight and raw up to more delicious and elegance. From hard drive to melody beauty. Retro wave, synthesizers music, style of 80s rhythms and melodies. With different plugins. Genres of electronic music – there are lots of them. So, synthesizers – it is unlimited way to do music! With very different sounds and ideas! Melodies and rhymes!

Are you okay with gift art?

Of course! I would be flattered! If you’d like, you can find most of my characters here on toyhouse (I promise to update it soon!)!

How do you get the retro/vhs effects on your art?

I actually made a tutorial on that here! But honestly at the end of the day it’s a lot of “I plug this picture into several different apps and video editing software.” I wish I could give you a simple answer, but there is no easy way to do it that’s the same every time. I rarely if ever do it the same way back to back. Some colors look better when edited in Photoshop, some in Photomosh Pro. I pay almost $100 a month to have access to all of the software I use to make these effects because it’s part of my job. But luckily you can find so many free tutorials and apps out there, you just need to be curious and try new things!

What do you use to draw?

Another vague answer whoo! Sorry, but I use so many things to draw! But usually it’s sketch/ink/color/shade in Paint Tool Sai, and then move it to Photoshop to add the background, effects and details. I also use Procreate and Clip Studio from time to time. When it comes to traditional, it’s usually standard cardstock or a mixed media sketchbook. Then I draw and color with microns, copic pens, jelly rollers/gel pens, prisma colored markers and copic markers. 

Did you draw the backgrounds in your art? And if you use screenshots, where do you get them?

In the majority of my pictures, I use screenshots from old cartoons. I get these screenshots from the shows themselves. My friend is kind enough to set up a program that takes snapshots hundreds of times during the show. Then when the episode is over, they send them to me. I then spend HOURS, going through thousands of images and delete all but the good pieces. A majority of the time they take a lot of editing to be usable. I have to clean them up, remove character and scale the images.

This isn’t always the case however! I do often draw my own backgrounds! If you ever want to know, feel free to ask!

As for the more aesthetic/abstract backgrounds, I make those myself! I spent far too much money buying licenses and rights to use tons of different patterns and vectors. With those, I love recreating authentic backgrounds in the style of those seen in the 80s and 90s!

I see you draw a lot of Transformation/Chubby/(insert common movie trope here). Are you a fetish artist?

No, I am not a fetish artist. Do I draw art that might be someone’s fetish? Do I take commissions from people with a fetish for this subject matter? Yes, of course. But people need to realize, furry characters alone are a kink to some people. For me the difference is in how it’s drawn. And I personally do not draw my art in a way that sexualizes the piece.

I love drawing transformation scenes, people being swallowed by a monster, extra big tummies, but not because it’s something that I find hot. I just like drawing fun scenes. I get bored of just drawing a character standing in place all the time. I like drawing wacky scenes! 

A lot of my love for these come from cartoons. Edmund getting turned into a cat in Rock a Doodle. Hercules getting swallowed by the hydra. Kaa hypnotizing... everyone xD It’s just a story telling tool and sometimes it’s fun to draw! I’m not into hypno but I do like drawing big, colorful eyes. I’m just whatever about tf but I love drawing the swirling magic effects and the character changing from human to animal. It’s just cool to me!

In short, when I draw these things, it’s like I get to draw scenes from cartoons and movies in my style. It’s so wonderful to attempt to emulate some of the effects and details they used in movies from my childhood. It’s not about the hand changing into a paw for me, it’s the magical sparkles and how it’s so bright and vibrant compared to everything else. Where you see it go from hand to paw, that’s what I love drawing about tf art! Or being able to exaggerate the body and make a character look weighty by making them really round. Getting to draw a comically big mouth, giving a fun and interesting perspective shot. I think that stuff is so neat! Because it’s art!

I don’t care if it is someone’s fetish. I’m not drawing it in a way that’s sexual. Heck, it even says I wont in my TOS! Everything is G-PG here in Sunday’s Playzone! I’m not here to make that kind of content. It’s okay if adults have fetishes, and so long as you and others aren’t sexualizing my art, all is well!

Do you like 90s miniskirt suits?

I tend to like more formal and composed looks, I'm very attracted to women, I was a kid in the 90s, and I'm currently extremely into Yellowjackets. What do you think, anon?

For those unfamiliar, it's an interesting look. You get certain types of outfits in the 80s (which actually started as 40s retro!) that in some cases have the rough length and silhouette we associate with miniskirted 90s businesswomen:

And then in the early-to-mid-90s the look really takes off:

(Karl Lagerfeld (may his bones be smashed) from 1995; Gaultier from some point in the 90s; Gaultier from some point in the 90s. I don't necessarily trust the website the third picture is from, but it looks like outfits I remember seeing people wear as a kid and it has explicitly 40s-inspired lapels, so it's like catnip for me and I'm keeping it in this post. It's supposedly from a range for younger women--roughly late high school and college ages--even though it looks formal-to-severe by the standards of teen and undergrad wear today; this could explain the somewhat louder colors and pattern.)

Here's Princess Diana in 1995. This isn't a particularly short skirt by most standards but at the time it was at least a little bit daring for people associated with the Windsors:

Virtual spaces in a grid

Drawing about theme of virtual space. Such a grid. Which often you can see as a theme for wallpaper. If to surf net. So, it is a typical image, it is connected with aesthetic of retro wave. And everything that is similar, like 8 bit, virtual space, retro wave. And it is now a moment for me to create something like this, image with space made of grid. I was all the time impressed how other can do this.

And this is my drawing about the same theme. Two pictures. One is made in palette with parameters CGA RGB Color OFF, and second is made with palette from Nes 8 bit.

Let’s move to grid CGA. At first. We have here a space. With clouds and stars. It is simply space. Dreams in retro clouds. Flight amongst the clouds. Retro. And not to be lost here - there is a grid here. For navigation in this space. It is more simple space. You can test flight here. Or just walk. There is no gravity here.

And now let’s move to space Nes 8 bit. It is a filed. With chamomile or sunflowers. 8 bit flowers and grass. So here it is going a raining. Which is giving water to little flowers. It is already more made retro 8 bit space. It exists with more length in time. And it is updated with objects. So, here it is gravity. And already plants are growing. Clouds are making a rain. And you can have a walk into this 8 bit field.

Maybe to remember your country house memories. As you play 8 bit Nes videogames at the country house. For example. Or some another system. Watched VHS videotapes. Moment of nostalgia about 80s. 8 bit field is calling you to run here. And get yourself under the rain. And with a fun to run back to your house.

Grass is such green and so familiar, which you can see in the field. Chamomile and sunflowers also are well known for you. Even form of clouds, looks like, is taken from 8 bit games from cartridges. From some kind Adventure Island. But, well, no, not out of this game. Grass will grow. And maybe even birds will fly and a little house to appear.

Though my activity only started halfway through this month, I am glad that I've finally made some solid progress. It's good to see that I'm smashing through the goals I'm setting; it means that I've settled into a writing rhythm that slots in well with the rest of my routine.

I haven't completed arc 3 of Snake Oil's second outline - this is because I've underestimated how much detail I need to add. Going into it, I knew that I really needed to flesh out this section of the story. What I didn't remember is that I left this section quite bare in the first outline. What was about 6 dot points of plot has now expanded to almost 5,000 words of detailed information about scenes and dialogue - and I'm not even halfway through. I mean, I knew I needed to add more plot details to this arc, but I didn't realise I would have so many scene ideas to add this early in the writing process! By the end of this month, I expect that at least arc 3 will be complete and I'll have made significant progress in the 4th, though I don't think it's unrealistic to have the entire second outline completed by September's end.

And an exciting progress update, as mentioned in the 'noteworthy accomplishments' - I've launched the official website for VESSEL! I wasn't expecting to release it so soon, but after spending half a day redesigning the homepage, I thought, what the hell, and went for it. I feel a slight weight lifted off my shoulders, as I knew I'd have to release it some day, and for the past couple of months I wasn't happy with the way it looked (previously I had used one of WordPress' standard themes). At the moment there isn't really anything on the site, but there will be in due time. I'll start by transferring some of the information I currently have on this blog to the website and go from there.
