PoliZ's WIP Update - 31 Jan 2024

Another productive writing week - while I only touched 3 fics (1 new works & 2 WIPs) - with over a thousand words on one of them, I managed 2310 words - for a total of over 11k for the month!

On Ao3, I posted:

I carried over 16 semi-active WIPs into the new year 😬 with my current deadlines being the Bucky Barnes Bingo which now wraps on 31 Jan and the Tony Stark Bingo & Stony AU Bingo which both wrap in mid-February.

See below cut for what I’m working on/planning to work on - arranged more or less by bingos/challenges/etc. As always, feel free to send me prompts or plot bunnies as well as asks regarding any of these projects or any other WIPs I’ve got out there. Interaction really helps feed the Muse and keep me motivated!

Bucky Barnes Bingo - [BBB_R5] (Ends 10 31 Jan 2024)

I’ve got twenty-six fills and six bingos, with one WIP - thanks to the extended deadline, I’m getting an assisted blackout!

* C5 - Marriage of Convenience/Pretend Couple - Posted An Evening in Prague to Ao3 on Tuesday. It’s a Red Room-era BuckyNat (kinda) ficlet where she and the Soldier are pretending to be a couple in love at a Christmas market. Originally posted here as a fill the for Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF234 How It Ends] I tinkered with it some more and it came in at 477 words.

* K2 - Humor - see TSB KINK: Cock-blocking 'bots below.

Tony Stark Bingo Round 7 - [TSB_R7] (ends 15 Feb)

Twenty-six fills and two WIPs as of the moment - getting an assisted blackout, thanks to a couple of adopted squares!

* T2 - KINK: Cock-blocking 'bots - Posted Competing for His Affections this morning – ‘bot shenanigans based on Tony & Bucky’s new romance. I combined a recent Flash Fiction Friday prompt, [#FFF233 Imperfect Sign] and a belated Fictober Day 27: prompt "I don't know if they will accept this." along with my BBB - Humor prompt. It came in at 537 words

* A2 - KINK: Concubine - This will get filled with Chapter Two of The Sultan’s Gifts (see Caning prompt below). Chapter Two, which also fills my SAUB Gentle Dom square is coming in at 1065 words with a third smutty chapter (filling my SRB Multiple Submissives squares) sitting at 225 words as of this morning.

* R5 - Doppelganger/Evil Twins - Worked on expanding NamNori this week - originally a ficlet for the Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF214 Broken Mirror]. It’s crossing over with my SAUB AU: Crack square and is coming in at 1303 words of an alternate-dimension Tony causing a bit of havoc, but also a happy Stony ending. It will post on Friday.

* K5 - AU: Anime - I had Vague Ideas of doing a “Battle of the Planets” (my first anime and a childhood favorite) fusion, with Tony as Princess, Steve as Mark and Bucky as Jason - but wasn’t sure who to put in as Tiny (Happy? Thor?) or Keyop (Vision?) - JARVIS would have been their 7-Zark- 7 of course…. if I have time/spoons/inspiration - I may do something with this.

* Dec Adoptable: Caning - Posted Chapter One of The Sultan’s Gifts over the weekend. It’s basically an extended PWP scene with sub!Steve/ sub!Bucky as concubines gifted to Dom!Tony. There’s a bit of impact play (thanks to this prompt and the SRB Crops/Floggers/Whips square). I also threw in my SAUB Pre-Serum Steve Rogers and Build a Bucky Bingo Polyamory prompts for good measure! It came in at 972 words.

* Jan Adoptable: Enemies to Lovers - working to fit this into another Flash Fiction Friday-inspired fic - To Earn the Dragon’s Heart was written for prompt [#FFF237 A Fool’s Quest] and will also fill my SAUB AU: Fantasy square. This is also inspired by CoffeeOwl’s really cool dragon!Steve/ indebted!Tony prompt in the STB Discord server. The expansion is up to 678 words and will hopefully be posted on the 9th.

Stony AUniverse Bingo [SAUB_R1] (ends 15 Feb)

Another brand-new bingo I’m helping co-mod! I’m up to fourteen fills, four WIPs and several crossover ideas in play. Not sure I’m going to get a blackout - but I’ll do my best!

* S1 - Edging - Filled this with Ringing in the New, where Tony makes a suggestion to improve/change up their love life. It’s a crossover with a Flash Fiction Friday prompt: How Do You Use ‘It’? and came in at 324 words - I will post it to Ao3 before the event is over.

* S2 - AU: Crack - see TSB Doppelganger/Evil Twins

* S3 - AU: Wings - think I need to pivot on this - maybe I’ll be self-indulgent and do a second remix of some part of Take What Was Wrong (And Make it Right) from Steve’s POV - since the first remix is Bucky POV (and therefore tricky to make Stony-focused)

* S5 - Accidental Baby Acquisition - see BBB Yelena Belova - this may have to come off the table/pivot to something else.

* T1 - AU: Fantasy - see TSB Enemies to Lovers.

* T2 - Adopting a Cat - combined this with a Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF236 Fight or Flight] for Feline Fight and Flight - which will probably get a better title before I post it to Ao3.😁 This No Powers established Stony ficlet - where Tony’s rescuing a stray cat and Steve helps out - came in at 390 words.

* T4 - AU: Canon Divergence - I may write a follow up on Setting Aside the Shield to fill this square.

* O2 - Omegaverse - I have a Vague Idea inspired by @kandisheek’s lovely art piece.

* O3 - FREE - used this in combination with a previous Flash Fiction Friday prompt: [#FFF235 Little Pink Houses] to come up with Those Old Crazy Dreams (Just Kind of Came and Went) which was posted to Tumblr and came in at 461 words. I may tweak it a bit before posting to Ao3 before this event is over.

* N2 - Mutual Pining - crossover with CABB Royal Knight?

* N3 - Gentle Dom - see TSB KINK: Concubine above

* N5 - AU: Multiple Identities - Posted The Secrets We Keep to Tumblr. It’s a first person alternating POV ficlet with mutual pining (and secret identity) Stony. It came in at 314 words and will get posted to Ao3 before the event ends.

Captain (America) Bottom Bingo - Round 2 [CABB] (ends 28 Feb 2024)

I signed up for a 3x3 card for this bingo and have six fills, two WIPs and a couple of crossover ideas.

Bucky Barnes Connect Four - Alt Jun-iverse [BBC4_R2] {Ends June 2024}

The good folks over at @buckybarnesevents have opened this event up early! You sign up for a single row card of four squares and the challenge is to see if you can combine any/all into a single Bucky-centric AU fanwork - although you can also create 2-4 separate fanworks if you want.

The combo of prompts on my first card [Reality Show, Omegaverse, Talent/Manager, Royalty] sparked an idea that I’m about 230 words + misc notes into already - Alpha!Bucky as a technical prince who gets talked into joining a reality show that is supposed to match him up with an omega… but there’s a twist! I’m torn between striking while the iron is hot vs spending time on the fics that have a looming deadline… 🙃

Just signed up for this fun Tumblr event - got a 3x3 card and want to swap out one square, but otherwise am looking forward to creating more Clint-centric content and trying my hand at a bit of Kate Bishop fic as well!

Hiya. I've been looking forward to seeing Scenes From A Marriage since I've heard that it was being filmed. Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain would both get me locked up in horny jail. Lol.

Anyhoo, I decided to do a multi part smut fest featuring the reader, your old friend Poe Dameron, your crumbling marriage and complex emotions.

Warnings, Cheating! (Please people don't do that!!!) Mentions of physical and mental abuse, if that is a trigger for you please don't read. Definitely not for anyone under 18.

Act 1, Playing With Fire

If he didn't love me he wouldn't react that way, you'd tell yourself on an almost daily basis.

You were a captain for the rebellion. Your husband of nearly a decade was also a captain. His name was Zark Izod and he had swept you off of your feet with his wit, good looks and intelligence.

However, after your wedding things took a dark turn. Zark revealed his true colors to you, he was a cruel and controlling man who insisted on knowing what you were doing at all times.

You shared a nearly 7 year old son with him named Quint. Zark was a very attentive, hands on father and adored his son.

Your son was a daddy's boy and loved his father. You couldn't just walk away because of that.

When you wore makeup or even a pretty outfit that made you feel good he would get mad and ask who you were dressing up for? Was it Poe?

Your friendship with Poe made your jealous husband boil over with anger. He was extremely threatened by the dashing, handsome flyboy.

Poe Dameron was an old friend of yours. You had gone to school together and were in the same flight class. Your bond was tight and like that of siblings.

You were shy, quiet and felt like an ugly duckling but Poe quickly helped you out of your shell with his stupid jokes and banter.

For whatever reason, maybe circumstance? You never took your relationship with him beyond a platonic level.

You had your suspicions for years that Poe harbored romantic feelings for you. The way he'd touch your hand, hold you when you've had a bad day or even gaze at you when he thought you couldn't see him were your biggest clues.

Out of the corner of your eye you'd often catch Poe wistfully gazing in your direction, taking in your beauty.

And then of course, there was your wedding day. Poe supposedly couldn't attend the lavish ceremony because he had suddenly become ill.

Your wedding felt like it was missing something because your best friend wasn't there.

You looked like an otherworldly, ethereal princess in your lavish white gown and you sent Poe a hologram to show him.

His response? Nothing for two days. His silence spoke volumes to you.

"Damn it Zark, I'm 10 minutes late, give me a break".

"Where were you?"

"None of your damn business".

"I'm your husband, everything is my fucking business!"

Your 10 year wedding anniversary was in a week and you had been out shopping for the perfect gift for your husband.

You had failed to make it home in time, and he was angry. Hurling accusations your way at the top of his lungs and demanding to know where you had been.

"You're going to wake Quint". You pleaded as tears streamed down your face.

Without uttering another word Zark slapped you hard across the face and then grabbed you by your long hair and threw you to the floor.

When you were on the floor he punched you, blackening your eye.

"You were with him, weren't you?" Zark screamed as he hovered over you menacingly as you huddled in a corner, your face still stinging from the attack.

"I was out shopping for our anniversary and I didn't want to ruin the surprise". You confessed as the tears rolled down your face. "Are you satisfied now?"

Your confession immediately made him change his tone. Zark helped you up, kissed you softly on the forehead and said with a slight smile,

"I'm so sorry sweetie, if I didn't love you I wouldn't react that way, I hope you can understand".

Without another exchange of words, in complete silence, the two of you got ready for bed.

Luckily for you your husband was a heavy sleeper. As soon as you could hear his snoring and barely audible grunts you put a leather jacket on over your flimsy nightgown, put on some slippers and left.

Poe lived not far from you, in a rather sparse bachelor pad. You knocked softly on the door, you were still shaking from the attack.

Poe answered the door, it was late and you had caught him by surprise. His dark, curly hair was a mess and he was wearing only a pair of colorful boxer shorts, revealing his smooth, tanned torso.

It was obvious that he had been asleep, and you felt terrible for waking him up.

"Y/n, what happened?" Poe asked as he let you into his apartment.

"It's my husband again". You confessed as you sat down on his sofa.

Poe sat down next to you and with tears in his eyes began to gently examine your face. The split lip, black eye and red mark from your husband's open hand proved to be too much for even him, a man who was used to seeing war related injuries.

Poe took you into his strong, loving arms, planted a delicate kiss on the top of your head and started to cry.

"He's going to kill you someday if you don't leave". Poe told you as he held you tight. "You have to walk away".

"I can't take my son away from his father". You confessed as you buried your face into Poe's bare chest, taking in the musky, salty scent of his baby soft, freshly showered skin.

"I love you, y/n". Poe told you with a deep sigh. "Zark is a piece of shit and doesn't deserve a woman like you".

"So that's why you didn't attend my wedding?" You asked timidly, as you continued to savor his exquisite scent.

"You weren't really sick, were you?"

"I couldn't stand seeing you walk down the aisle with another man". Poe confessed with a light laugh as the tears continued to roll down his handsome face.

"Damn it Poe". You replied with a weak laugh. "Why do you have to be like that?"

"Be like what?" Poe answered, his dark eyes lighting up a little.

"Like Poe Dameron". You quipped back, bursting into hearty laughter.

You spent the rest of the night on the couch, safely in his arms, talking and joking around with him.

Poe's presence made your anxiety melt away. Soon you were both exhausted and he insisted that you stay with him for a day or two.

"If Zark gives you shit about this I'll confront him personally". Poe explained. "I'll take the couch and you can have my bed".

"Absolutely not". You replied quickly. "I want you to hold me".

"Are you sure?" Poe asked, a look of complete surprise appearing on his face.

"Yes". You answered back confidently, smiling a little.

The two of you went into his bedroom and you immediately started to pull your nightgown over your head, revealing your nude body.

"What are you doing?" Poe asked with a slight laugh as he jokingly covered his eyes.

"Getting ready for bed, I need to feel your skin against mine". You replied with a slight smile as you tugged playfully at the elastic waist band of his boxer shorts. "Come on, take them off".

Poe laughed a little and obliged. Soon every inch of his gorgeous, tanned body was revealed for your eyes to see.

Your eyes sneakingly veered below the belt, and you caught a glimpse of his cock.

It was limp but you could tell that he was thick.

You thought you were being sly but Poe noticed and playfully covered himself with his hand.

The two of you climbed into bed together and you began to spoon. Your bodies were so close together that you could feel his soft cock and the coarse patch of hair that surrounded it against your velvety skin.

A busy IRL week, which cut into my writing time/energy. I touched 4 fics (1 new works & 3 WIPs) for a total of 1525 words.

Twenty-six fills and two WIPs as of the moment - getting an assisted blackout, thanks to a couple of adopted squares!

* Jan Adoptable: Enemies to Lovers - working to fit this into another Flash Fiction Friday-inspired fic - To Earn the Dragon’s Heart was written for prompt [#FFF237 A Fool’s Quest] and will also fill my SAUB AU: Fantasy square. The fic is inspired by CoffeeOwl’s really cool dragon!Steve/ indebted!Tony prompt in the STB Discord server. The expansion is up to 1045 words and will hopefully be posted on the 14th.

Stony AUniverse Bingo [SAUB_R1] (ends 15 Feb)

Another brand-new bingo I’m helping co-mod! I’m up to fourteen fills, four WIPs and several crossover ideas in play. Not sure I’m going to get a blackout - but I’ll do my best!

* T4 - AU: Canon Divergence - Filled this with On the Edge of Disaster - a CA:CW last-minute partial fix-it from Steve’s POV that also filled a Flash Friday Fic fill [#FFF209 On the Edge] as well as my SRB Fix-It square. I’ve gotten one cranky comment on it already. 🙄🙄🙄

* O2 - Omegaverse - I have a Vague Idea inspired by @kandisheek’s lovely art piece.

* N2 - Mutual Pining - crossover with CABB Royal Knight?

* N5 - AU: Multiple Identities - Posted The Secrets That We Keep to Ao3 this morning. It’s a first person present tense alternating POV ficlet with mutual pining (and secret identity) Stony. Inspired by the Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF225 I Can't Tell], the ficlet came in at 340 words.

How would you rank the protagonists of every cirque show and why?

oh MAN you are really delivering the fun asks. I’m going to stick to shows I’ve seen live (or at least have extensive knowledge about) and shows with clear leads. Let’s make it a countdown!

13. Kurios/The Seeker - I often forget he’s even in the show, and when I remember, I don’t really know why. The show would be just as effective if Klara, Nico, and Mr. Microcosmos showed up out of nowhere, and the end moment with the suitcase is the only indicator that he was ever on any sort of journey at all. I know people like his design but for me he is exceptionally forgettable. Sorry Seeker. :(

12. Zarkana/Zark - imagine being cut from your own show, lol. It’s not his fault!! Zarkana was kind of a disaster!! Zark deserved better!! I actually have a lot of affection for him because I am compelled to love anyone Paul Bisson plays, but Cirque clearly did not share my feelings. RIP Zark. Zark/Tarantula for life. 🤙

11. Luzia/The Traveler - almost immediately this list has become impossible because this guy is absolutely lovable. I really enjoyed having a clown lead because it meant actual clown content was thinner in this show, and by the end he had my entire heart in his hands. The protags that follow on this list just made me feel a notch more, so unfortunately he lands here.

10. Amaluna/Miranda - no one talks about Amaluna and they should, because it’s feminist as fuck. Miranda already knows her strength, her home, and her place in it. She doesn’t need to be taught, and yet we still see her grow up over the course of the show. Any character that can perform a water bowl act in a white bikini and not present even a hint of sexuality is a well-constructed one.

9. Zed/Zed - no thoughts, head empty. I wish I could better articulate why I like him so much but I just do. He’s so upbeat, cute, and curious - the perfect explorer for a world as big as his.

8. Volta/Waz - I speak only for Waz 2.0, the version of him that’s a contestant for Mr. Wow and not Mr. Wow himself. I find this to be the cleaner, stronger interpretation of the show and his character benefits from it. He’s been lucky to be portrayed by such talented dancers that his emotion always explodes off the stage, and even if the show around him is a little lackluster or disorganized, there’s no denying that this is a character you want to see end the show happy. Watch Daydreaming and tell me you don’t love him too.

7. Varekai/Icarus - this dude respects women. You can just tell. When I finally saw this show live I thought this must be quintessential Cirque romance, this is why this show is so well-loved. His relationship with La Promise puts all other Cirque couples to shame. He’s a little sulky for my taste, at least as a lead, but I adore how he shares the spotlight with the supporting characters. By the end of the show you feel like you’ve watched the story about a family or community, not just a story about him.

6. O/Philemon - no thoughts, head empty: the original. Philemon is the quintessential Cirque everyman, and his character endures for a reason. He’s such an excellent mirror for the audience that in many scenes you don’t even realize he’s there - just like you forget you’re watching a show and not some fantastic extension into reality. I love his journey, I love his ending, and I don’t have words to describe my affection for his relationship with Le Vieux. Philemon is perfect.

5. Corteo/Mauro - sir, I would die for you but unfortunately you are already dead. Mauro has got to be the most human Cirque character in history. Unlike so many others he’s lived a full life, and we get to see it illustrated in such dynamic, vivid detail. Some parts you can’t relate directly to Mauro as you know him, but you still feel he’s human enough that you don’t have to know or understand. You can just enjoy his funeral and the celebration for what was assuredly a beautiful, happy, and very full life.

4. Quidam/Zoe - I’m convinced anyone with any experience with Zoe could not resist putting her somewhere in their top five. She’s so much more than a lead - she’s a symbol for Cirque’s greatest work and most beautiful era. She is the perfect singer protagonist, a beautiful blend of worldbuilding and character growth. We learn so much about her even though we see just one small, transitory phase of her life, and every viewing tells you something more or different or new.

3. Alegria/White Singer - Zoe is the perfect singer protagonist because of how she grows, but the White Singer just edges her out because of what she is. The White Singer doesn’t grow at all - she just exists while the world and audience change around her, and at the end she’s there to celebrate with you. She is an icon through and through, both in the original and in IANL.

2. Ka/The Imperial Twins - listen to me very closely: there is nothing I don’t love about these two. They’re so close to the top of my list because they’re two of very few true protagonists in Cirque. They have distinct motivations, pasts, goals, and journeys - they leave no blanks for the audience to fill in, they can exist in any medium, and they bear the complexity of their story beautifully. And even of development aside, their characters are fun and engaging and positive and real. It’s refreshing to feel you know a Cirque character with such certainty, and we get two of them! I feel like these two have given me a lot.

1. Kooza/The Innocent - I can’t really articulate why except to say that you never forget your first. There will always, always be a place in my heart for the Innocent.
