(Sehabis makan malam, kamu cepat-cepat tidur dengan nyenyaknya, efek kecapean maen seharian bersama temen- temenmu di pekarangan). Sambil melihat wajahmu yang polos terlelap, mama ingin menuliskan sedikit pesan-pesan untukmu:

"Riff, mama bahagia merawatmu meskipun harus re-sign dari pekerjaan yang mama sukai. Bahagia deh pokoknya. Kau tahu BULAN nak,? Iya bulan,; yang bersinar di malam yang gelap. Bulan punya 2 sisi; sisi terang yang nampak oleh mata kita dan sisi gelap di belakangnya. Begitulah manusia nak, punya kelemahan juga punya kelebihan. Saat kamu menilai seseorang, berlakulah adil. Begitu.

"Nasehat kedua nak, perbuatan baik seseorang jangan kamu lupakan meskipun terlihat sepele; membawakan botol minummu yang tertinggal misalnya. Jangan sampai setitik noda kesalahannnya seakan dia samasekali tidak pernah berbuat baik, padahal sebelumnya dia selalu berbuat baik kepadamu, tanpa kamu sadari. Namanya manusia, tempat salah dan lupa. Jadilah pemaaf anakku. Oiya, sertakan nama mama dan papa dalam doa- doamu. Itulah kebahagiaan saat nanti kita telah  berbeda dunia. Rutinkanlah mulai sekarang."

Write three brief story beginnings starting with the beginnings of the three following paragraphs.

My work:

1. In that moment I realized…

- that my children were my responsibility and nobody else’s. They were six and eight years old, and I was looking through my kitchen window while snow fell in huge fat flakes between me and the Rockies. Their dad was in Malaysia for the second time, and I was waiting for word from him regarding whether he would be returning to our little family – or not. My only request is that he decide, and inform me of his decision, before he returned. Our relationship had mostly been tense, held together by outstanding physical compatibility, and we had both realized great relief in living apart for four months.

2. If only I had a magic wand…

I would gift all of humanity with resiliency, peacefulness, and loving hearts for all eternity. Maybe I’ll write some more on this later.

3. It started out as an ordinary day…

then my water broke and shortly I met my son face to face. He rocketed into the world after less than two hours of labor, aspirating amniotic fluid, so we spent an hour gazing at one another through a pane of rounded glass. He was so big in that incubator – gazing around calmly. He seemed to arrive knowing that we were all there to meet him. I fell in love for the second time in my life… profoundly, irrevocably in love. There is hard science proving that all mothers are chimera, with our children’s DNA residing forever in our own brains. We know though. We don’t need science.
