A/N: Kinda indulged in this one, whoops

Laying in bed, you watch a new show on Netflix called Wednesday. It was a show everyone else had seen, but you have yet to be able to watch it due to work and traveling to different places in the world with Lando. A fever was fogging your mind and left you unable to text Lando why you hadn't contacted him.

With a dry cough shaking your entire body, you wince and pull your covers closer. Everything in your body just ached and protested when you reached for the water. Unable to grab it, you lay in bed, tears sliding down your face.

"She's not answering me." Lando curses, making Max, Carlos, George, and the others groan, so damn tired of hearing Lando whining. "We know!" They yell, and Lando turns, glaring. "She's never gone this long not answering. This isn't right. Something is wrong!" Lando snaps, the nerves getting to him.

They were all together putting together travel plans as they had to leave soon for a new race. Lando hated telling you he had to go. A part of you broke each time he had to leave, and this time, it's for a triple-header weekend, and I wouldn't be able to see you for almost 4 weeks.

"I've-I've got to go. Just something isn't right.' Lando grabs his keys to his new Mclaren and wallet and storms to his car. Carlos and Max follow him, trying to talk him down. "You're so damn overprotective, Lando. Maybe Y/n is still sad from you telling her how long you'll be gone." Carlos suggests, but Lando scuffs at them.

"I haven't told her yet. And when I do, we don't leave each other's side. And so fucking what? I'm overprotective? The life we live, the way people push themselves into our lives. I'm going to be protective. So move out of the way." He points, seeing them block his car as he climbs into it, revving the engine before tearing off down the street to your place.

Hitting the phone button, he redials your number, but it rings as he curses. "Fuck. Come on, Peony, answer the phone." His leg shakes, trying to calm himself before he thinks the worse. He sighs in relief when he hears your voice but growls when he notices it's your voicemail. "Peony." He whispers and yanks the car into park in front of your building.

Rushing upstairs, he fights with his keys, almost dropping them when he reaches your door. Shoving the key in, he throws the door open and is met with dead silence. Terror grips his chest until he hears a dry, hacking cough.

"Y/n? Peony?" He yells, rushes to your bedroom, and halts when he sees you curled into a little ball. Sweaty, shivering, and looking close to death, he has to take several deep breaths to calm the panic. "Peony." He whispers, slides to your side, kneels down, touches your forehead, and curses when he feels how burning you are.

"Lando?" You ask, peeling your eyes open and crying, seeing your boyfriend. "Come on." Lando stands and pulls the blankets back, seeing them drenched in sweat, and scoops you up. "Ow." everything in your body aches when he touches you, and Lando feels like crying himself. "I know, Peony. I've got you." He holds you and sits you on the toilet.

"No, don't." You sob tiredly, reaching out for him, not wanting him gone. "Hey, Peony. I'm starting you a bath. Shhh." He turns, holding your hands and kissing your forehead. "You're leaving for the races anyways." You sob, having seen the schedule yesterday. This is how you ended up sick. Crying and working yourself to death.

"Peony? Did you get sick over this?' He asks, hating that you are going through this due to him. You shake your head no, having already felt this way earlier in the week. You just worked yourself like crazy, trying to get Lando leaving out of your mind because then it wouldn't be true.

Throat tight, he clears it and holds your hand as he fixes you a boiling hot bath, hoping it'll help break the fever. "In you go," Lando whispers, peeling your clothes off and sliding you into the tub. Flinching from the heat, you soon relax, feeling your muscles slack. "Thank you." You whisper, closing your eyes as Lando leans over the tub, kissing your forehead.

He goes to change the sheets. Lando thinks everything over. Did he really need to leave? Lando sighed, knowing he needed to, but he was also planning on how to fly you out for one of the races. You two hated being apart, and this triple header will kill you.

"Lando?" You yell, and his head snaps up, moving quickly to ensure you're alright. "Peony? Everything okay, baby?" Lando asks but sighs, seeing you more alert. "Yeah, my fever broke. I'm tired. Hold me?" You ask. Lando sighs, giving you his soft smile. "Yeah, let's get you dressed first, okay?" Nodding, you stand up as Lando wraps a warm towel around your body. He helps you get dressed but can't help his heart swell when you slide on one of his shirts.

From the corner of his eye, he sees you smell the shirt and blush, knowing it smells like him. "Let's get you to bed," Lando whispers, leads you to the bed and pulls the new covers back. Laying down, you sigh, feeling the coolness of it against your heated skin. "I'll be back." Kissing the top of your head, he leaves to go to the kitchen to grab some broth and fix it. He didn't know how your stomach might handle food, so fixing some broth just to have something would be good. You lay in bed thinking everything over.

Could you handle this? This relationship with him is where he always leaves and goes for extended periods. It was challenging. You knew this when you first agreed to start dating him. But now? It was getting too hard on you. "Tadaa!" Turning, you see Lando smiling brightly, holding a steaming bowl as he moves and sits it on the bedside table. He fluffs your pillows, helping you sit up and palce the bowl in your lap.

"Broth. It might help you. I wasn't sure how you could handle food at the moment." You look up, wanting to kiss him, but you know it wasn't smart with him leaving for a race soon. "Thank you." "Of course, Peony." You giggle at the nickname. He started calling you that, after all, they had at flower shops were peonies. He kept getting them for you, thinking they were your favorite flower.

"Move over," Lando says, kicking his shoes off and pulling his sweatshirt off, leaving him in his jeans and black tee. "No, you'll get sick." You protest, not wanting him to get what you have. "Y/n. Move. Over." Lando bites, making you groan and move over as Lando turns back to his cheery self and pulls you close, careful not to spill the broth.

"Drink." He nods to the bowl, hits play on your show, and smiles, seeing you drink. After some time, he opens his mouth, but you cover it with your hand. "No. I know what you're going to tell me. I can't. Just, can we pretend you're not about to leave. Pretend I won't see you for almost a month. Just for tonight?" You ask, making Lando close his eyes and lean into your hand. "Of course, I'll just be beside you." He whispers, wanting to pretend too.

Her Royal Highness, President, Victim Support Scotland, this afternoon visited the National Office-West, Granite House, 31-33 Stockwell Street, Glasgow.

The Princess Royal later visited Peter Equi and Sons Limited Ice Cream Manufacturer, 8 New Way, Rutherglen Links Business Park, Rutherglen, and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Lanarkshire (the Lady Haughey).

Daniel leaned against Max’s shoulder in the car that took them through the Baku city streets. He was a little nervous about going to the FIA Prize Giving Gala. It was about to be a whole night of pomp and circumstance and honestly he expected to be bored out of his mind. Mentally, he was already preparing to deal with the WTA gala the following week.

He glanced over at his boyfriend and a smirk pulled at his lips, he looked amazing. Yummy even, in his tuxedo. He'd flicked Max's floppy bowtie and Max had huffed a laugh at him in return.

Max's hand rested on Daniel's thigh, thumb brushing over the fabric that covered the flower tattoo. He gazed out the window disinterestedly and Daniel couldn't help but stare at his profile that got lit up periodically by streetlights.

“So what can I expect tonight? Sit at the table and look pretty?” Daniel teased. Max snorted and squeezed his thigh.

“Pretty much, yeah.” Max thought for a moment, staring at the roof of the car. “They're gonna have me doing a bunch of interviews and giving trophies to other champions y’know. Of course, it's a lot of boring stuff.”

“It's lot of responsibility being champion.” Daniel laughed when Max scowled at him.

“Obviously I would rather we are at home with the cats. Than doing all of this stupid shit for the fia to feel better about themselves.”

“Well you have the easy job Maxy, you get to talk about racing all night. I have to be interesting to everyone else.”

“You are of course, very interesting Daniel.” Max cupped Daniel's cheek and pecked his lips just as the car rolled to a stop. Daniel gazed adoringly at Max before schooling his expression to something more toned down and not so private when the door opened to the flashes of photographers.

They walked the blue carpet, stopping for each publication before posing at the main backdrop at the top of the path. They made a stunning pair in their sharp tuxes. Daniel's hair was styled perfectly, not a curl out of place, to match the textured waves of Max's haircut.

They were led into the ballroom and shown to their seats before the first PA came and collected Max. Daniel went to the bar, getting a glass of red wine before walking around to look at everything that was on display.

There were some cars, well parts of them, an old McLaren sidepod here, a Sauber front wing there. He stood in front of an older Red Bull that had Max's name printed on the side and sipped from his glass. The placard called it the RB12 from 2016.

He tried to remember how his own 2016 season went, if there would be anything from that year worth putting on display. Maybe his racquet from Wimbledon? He didn't know, this was a Blake question.

Someone stood beside him, one hand holding a glass of something and the other in the pocket of his trousers. Daniel glanced over and Mark smiled back at him, it was always good to see the other man.

“What's the significance of this car? I know I'm missing something.” Daniel grinned openly when Mark snorted at him.

“I'm surprised you didn't Google Max or something.”

“I did! Like when we first met.” Daniel laughed and shrugged as if to say that he didn't remember what he read. What did he need to read Max's wiki page for when he could be spending his time basking in his presence?

“This is the car he got his first win in. He'd been called up mid season to replace Daniil and he won the first race he drove for Red Bull.”

“Ah yeah I get it now. He said they're gonna like wheel out Rocky when he collects his trophy. So it'll be kinda like a first win last win sorta uh juxtaposition– is that the right word?”

“Yeah something like that.” Mark confirmed.

“Oh great, now I gotta call the WTA and have them put out like my socks from my first win or something. Can't have Max show me up at my own prize giving.”

Mark clapped Daniel on the shoulder as they laughed together before Oscar saddled up and they began chatting about cricket and Aussie rules football.

A PA came to collect Oscar and then Daniel and Mark separated to find their seats. Daniel was relieved to see Geri sitting beside his assigned seat and he gratefully plopped beside her exaggeratedly.

“Thank God, I thought I was gonna be bored by myself.” He rested his head on Geri's shaking shoulder and she laughingly patted his cheek.

“Don't worry, I'll keep you entertained.” She grinned.

“You look lovely by the way. A vision.” Daniel gushed as he eased up.

“Thank you darling, you look gorgeous yourself. You clean up nicely when you're not wearing clothes with holes in them.” she teased him back, giggling at his wounded face.

“Ginger! I thought we were friends!” Daniel laughed, unable to keep up the bit. They chattered for a little bit longer, taking selfies together and teasing Christian who had come to sit before the ceremony started. Christian watched them warily, knowing from previous experiences that nothing good came from them teaming up against him.

Daniel smiled when Max crossed the stage, presenting trophies to the various karting champions. He looked sweet, doting on the children. Daniel's phone then vibrated with a new message, only two contacts could breach his DND.

Second floor men's room.

Daniel smirked as he got up, meandering to the back of the ballroom and through one of the exits. He found the bathroom relatively easily and ducked in quickly after making sure the coast was clear. The hallway had been deserted but you never know.

Max engaged the lock behind him and Daniel spun to see his beautiful boyfriend grinning at him.

“Hey Champ.” Daniel teased and Max pressed him against an empty wall. They kissed hungrily, grasping at each other like starving men. As if they hadn't seen or fucked each other for weeks.

Max swallowed Daniel's moan as he pressed his thigh in-between Daniel's. Daniel rutted against the thick muscle, breathing deeply.

“Fuck…” Daniel groaned and Max sank to his knees before him. He watched as his boyfriend made quick work of his zippered fly and swallowed his cock. Holding in his moans became harder.

Max was insistent, and thorough. He worked Daniel over, licking and groaning as if he was about to win the world championship of dick sucking. Daniel wanted to give him every trophy ever.

He was barely able to keep his hands out of Max's hair, instead clenching the shoulders of Max’s jacket and biting his own fist when that became too much. The heat of sensation zinged up and down his spine and it truly took all of his willpower to not thrust into Max's mouth. Even if he knew the man on his knees would appreciate it.

He came with a long exhale that turned into a wanting groan as he watched Max swallow every drop and then lick him clean. Daniel stood against the wall, dazed, while Max set his clothes to rights. When he stood, Daniel grasped Max's jaw and pulled him closer, kissing his swollen pink smirking lips and licking a smear of his own come off of Max's lip freckle.

“Mmm fuck I should get you a trophy if this is what I get when you're supposed to collect em.” Daniel smiled lazily against Max's lips, feeling his huffing laugh.

“I don't think I told you how incredible you look.” Max offered as an explanation with a shrug.

“You don't look too bad yourself beautiful. especially up there being amazing.”

Max flushed, looking away shyly at the compliment. They lingered in each other's presence for a little longer before deciding to make a quick getaway.

Daniel made it back to his seat without any issues, presenting Geri with a new glass of wine as an excuse for his absence. She smiled and accepted the glass before explaining what he missed.

Red Bull’s trophy was then awarded and both Daniel and Geri stood in applause. Lewis and Sergio collected their trophies afterwards and then Max's award was called. Daniel didn't expect for the backdrop to open up and Max to walk out flanked by Rocky and backlit dramatically. He looked amazing, very powerful and important and Daniel needed him again– now.

He took pictures and mentally undressed Max as he stood there smirking to the crowd, speaking into a mic with his breath smelling like Daniel's dick and come. Daniel couldn't wait to get back to their hotel room.

A Formula 1 Fantasy Universe using GPM2 2019 Mod: Intro, entry list, and race calendar

Hello there, after a long break from posting stuff on here.

This is going to be a randomized let’s play of Grand Prix Manager 2, using the recently released 2019 mod as a foundation, but with three expansion teams joining in so that we have a full 26 car entry list. I will be taking control as one of the expansion teams, so enjoy the ride!

The 2019 Entry List

Here’s what the lineups look like for all 13 teams after conducting a Draft Lottery and a snake format Fantasy Draft based off the lottery results complete with a preview of what I think the team’s fortunes are. Remember, in F1 each team can only have two race drivers at a time, and a backup reserve driver is highly recommended and actually required by the game itself. That’s the main reason why each team must have three drivers signed before the start of the season!

Will Fernando Alonso finally gets his elusive third Driver’s title? With the best overall car on paper, this is his best and probably final chance that he gets to do just that! On the other side of the garage is George Russell, who will make his F1 debut under massive pressures to perform straight away. George already has proven everything in the junior categories, winning titles in every single category of the ladder, F4, F3 and F2. This has the potential to be awesome like their recent successes over the last five years or maybe it would turn into a nightmare like when Alonso had to partner Hamilton in 2007?

The Number 27 is officially back on a Ferrari! With Ferrari signing Nico Hulkenberg, they have just gotten a driver that was looking for a top tier ride all of this time, and he finally got his wish. He will perform with a chip on his shoulder and maybe take the Tifosi by the neck and push them to work harder than ever to get that elusive team’s title back to Italy. The biggest question mark regarding the Scuderia is the #2 slot with Antonio Giovanizzi, who only has two f1 starts to his name with Sauber as an injury replacement, but he had to struggle with an inferior car, maybe being in an elite team will help him?

Max Verstappen was going to stay put as soon as it was announced that Red Bull Racing would get the first pick in the lottery. Now, the bigger question, can Max become the second Red Bull driver to win the Driver’s title? His chances are decent but the biggest question mark is the new in-house built Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR1 engine. If it’s reliable, expect them to be contenders for the team’s title, especially if Jean Eric Vergne relishes his second chance in Formula 1, fresh after winning the Formula E Championship. If not, Nick Cassidy, the team’s new tester will have a stab at things sooner than later.

Mr. Smiley has a new home! After being treated harshly at red bull racing last year, he decided to exit the program altogether and joined a factory team in desperate need of a savior. In addition, Valtteri Bottas, a perfect #2 driver during his time at Mercedes AMG before being let go over the lack of one-lap qualifying pace relative to Hamilton joins the Enstone-based team looking to crack into the big three conversation once again. What does this mean for Artem Markelov, who was looking to crack into F1 after finishing 2nd in F2 during the 2017 season? He will be a hot prospect going forward, that’s for sure.

Money is starting to be a problem over at Haas especially if the rumors that Rich Energy is a faker happens to be true. In the meantime, they have Sergio Perez’s Carlos Slim backing of companies providing a more stable back-up package if the Rich Energy deal happens to be blocked by a court. On the other side, is an amazing comeback story, Robert Kubica, who almost lost his life before the 2011 F1 season, is officially back in a F1 race seat. There’s no question that his qualifying pace is still great, but how can his race pace be especially considering his physical limitations post-rally crash?

Racing Point is now officially a full-fledged constructor now. They still have a customer Mercedes Benz Engine but it’s rebadged as BWT. As for their drivers, they kept Esteban Ocon, a promising talent that is looking for a promotion to Mercedes AMG, when and if Fernando Alonso calls it quits. Pascal Wehrlein, who is back into a F1 race seat after a year’s worth of testing work with Ferrari is the other driver. Nyck de Vries is the team’s reserve driver, after getting his F1 super license thanks in part of his stellar F2 finish last year.

Just as Lewis Hamilton was looking like he could potentially get his 6th drivers title, the FIA has decided to conduct a sport-wide fantasy draft in an effort to stop his domination. Despite this, Lewis Hamilton has returned back to McLaren, after Zak Brown selected him 3rd overall in the draft. With McLaren rebuilding after years of devastating management calls since Lewis left before the 2013 season, the hope is that he turns them back into title winners. His teammate would be Kevin Magnussen, who is also returning to the team for a second stint. Hopefully, the in-house built Cosworth engine is up for the task.

The newly renamed Alfa Romeo F1 team, who is now building their own engines, has managed to steal an elite level qualifying talent to spearhead their rebirth since flopping big time during the ground effect era of the early 80’s. Sebastian Vettel who failed Ferrari thanks to the massive pressures of driving for the Tifosi, has returned back to the team that gave him his F1 debut in 2007. However, in a highly debatable move, the Alfa Romeo Management decided to give the second seat to an interesting driver, Pastor Maldonado, who was out of F1 since the end of 2015 has somehow got more money to spare!

Entering year two of the Honda engine partnership, Toro Rosso are hoping to build on a modest start by improving driver talent across the board. Pierre Gasly stays put which is a good thing for research and development work. Alexander Albon, a relatively late addition to the draft, was selected as the team’s second driver after initially was hoping to crack into Formula E instead. As for the test driver, that role falls on a resurgent Alexander Rossi, after spending the last three years back in the United States honing on his race craft in the IndyCar championship.

Williams-Mercedes

Things couldn’t get much worse for Claire Williams, right? After going for the extra money in 2018, which backfired them in the worst possible way. They are now going in the opposite direction, going for experience and proven quantities that can help set up and develop a car that desperately needs it. Kimi Raikkonen, an elite racing talent still at this point of his career despite losing some outright one-lap pace over the last few seasons, signs on a one-year prove it deal. For the other seat, they are going with Rookie Lando Norris the 2nd place finisher in F2 last year, who has star level qualities already.

Panthera-Honda (User Controlled by Myself)

Now for the brand-new teams that will enter Formula 1 in 2019. First up, Panthera Team Asia, who will use Customer Honda Engines. It also helps that this expansion team got the 2nd overall pick in the draft and snatched Charles Leclerc away from Alfa Romeo. He can lead this team far if given a solid baseline to begin with. The bigger issue is at the #2 seat, with Lance Stroll, now being separated from his rich dad for the first time in his racing career, after Lawrence decided to run the Racing Point team. How well can he respond to this separation? At worst, Naoki Yamamoto is a quality driver that should get some looks.

SMP-Renault

The second of the three Brand-new teams, SMP Racing has decided to go with two drivers looking for fresh starts to their F1 careers after fizzing out with their previous teams. Daniil Kyvat, who bombed out with Red Bull and refined his career with a simulator job at Ferrari the previous year, has a new lease at life with SMP racing. The other seat will be taken by Stoffel Vandoorne, who failed to produce alongside Fernando Alonso at McLaren over the last couple years, but he should be better in a lower-pressure environment. Sergey Sirotkin, the team’s reserve, pays the bills for the Renault engines if anything.

Campos-Porsche

The last of the three Brand-New teams, Campos Racing has managed to convince Porsche to return to Formula 1 as an engine supplier only. As for their drivers entering 2019, they managed to draft Carlos Sainz Jr. with the 4th pick in the draft, and he will spearhead the charge for this young team that is looking for a role model to rally around. As for the other race driver, they are counting on Romain Grosjean to be less of a crasher in the races and more helpful with feedback during the practice sessions. If that doesn’t happen, Marcus Ericsson, a useful veteran is always welcome to try.

Mid-Week Motorsport Headlines - 19th May 2021

Norris has signed a new contract with McLaren, at least until the end of 2023, which is a great move for the team, given Lando’s pace this year so far! You could argue that Lando could have waited a little longer, just to see what interest he would have elsewhere in the paddock, as his stock is rather high right now. However, I can’t really see him getting a better seat on the grid, than the one he has right now, and I can’t wait to see what he can do with it!

We have more McLaren news, as they have launched a one off livery for the Monaco GP, which is utterly gorgeous, and will stand out really well on the streets! The throwback to the old Gulf livery works really well, and has led many people to talk about the possibility, of Monaco being a throwback weekend, with the teams running one off classic liveries each year! I think it would be a brilliant way to add some excitement to the weekend, especially in the race, where it is rather processional. When you look at how NASCAR does their throwback weekend, it adds something extra, and is rather refreshing to see!

Finally, for F1, there has been yet more calendar changes, as with Turkey joining the red list of countries for the UK, it was no longer feasible to have a race there. So, instead we will have two races at Austria, after the French GP, which has been moved forwards. With two races at one track, it could be a perfect chance to try out the sprint race format, so that the racing is fresh at each event. Sadly, the changes may have been made too late to enact that idea, when you think about the logistics of it all!

IndyCar

Yesterday saw the first day of practice for the Indy 500, with 35 cars running, meaning we will have bumping once again, with 2 cars going home. Looking at the entries, and their pace today, the most obvious choice to go home, is the brand new Top Gun Racing team, as whilst they aren’t looking horrible, they are slowest so far, and have no past experience. Foyt and Dale Coyne Racing are the other two teams looking weaker at this time, and at risk of losing out! At the front, the usual suspects are there, with CGR and RLL, however I get the feeling that Penske aren’t as sharp as usual, and may only be mid pack!

Temperatures are expected to rise for the weekend, when the grid will be set, and drivers will go home, so don’t read too much into what you are seeing at the moment. Two teams that are impressing me currently, are the one car operations of Dryer and Reinbold, and Paretta Autosport, more so Dryer and Reinbold, as they have no affiliated teams.

Formula E

For the final year of the Gen2 car, there is set to be up to 4 new venues for ePrix’s, including Jakarta and Seoul, as well as Vancouver and Eindhoven, that we have mentioned before. I do think it is good to see the series keeping its calendar fresh, although I would like to see some staple events, which always come up, to make the season feel recognizable!

Fans should be back for all of the remaining races of this season, we saw a limited attendance in the principality, and are expecting 33% in New York. So, at least we should see some normalcy and atmosphere return to racing.

MotoGP

We are hearing suggestions, that this could be Rossi’s last season in MotoGP, which with his dip in form, and the emergence of his own team, isn’t out of the question. It would be a real shame for him to end his career in this way, however riders as hungry as him, will never want to leave when they are on top! I just hope that whatever decision he makes, is the best for him, as no one wants to see him running around at the back!

Mazda MX-5 Miata RF: 10th Place – 2017 Motor Trend Best Driver’s Car

The last of the affordable roadsters, the Miata continues to deliver the best driving experience for the money. Mazda threw us a curveball this year by introducing a power-operated targa roof with dramatic flying buttresses rather than the sleek power-folding hardtop we have come to expect. Adding about 100 pounds to the featherweight sporty car, the power roof stows in the same space as the standard cloth roof. Being light and compact, the roof doesn’t add any structural stiffness to the chassis, but the added weight requires compensation elsewhere. Mazda retuned its springs, shocks, and electric power steering for the RF to account for the new roof. It’s Best Driver’s Car week! Keep it on MotorTrend.com this week as we count down the finishing order of our contenders this year and share bonus content you’ll only find right here. Power, however, remains the same. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder is unchanged at 155 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque, and it drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual. Being a Club model, it also gets a standard limited-slip differential, an under-hood shock tower brace, Bilstein shocks, Brembo brakes, and BBS wheels. With a slightly heftier weight-to-power ratio, the Miata RF needs 6.4 seconds to hit 60 mph from a stop and 14.9 seconds to clear the quarter mile, where it will be doing 92.4 mph. Stopping from 60 mph takes 109 feet. On the skidpad, it’ll pull 0.91 g average, and on the figure eight it’ll put down a 25.9-second lap at 0.71 g average. But you’ll be hard pressed to find a more fun car to do it in. We Say “I wanted to love it, reward it, and rank it higher than the bottom quartile, but in the end I couldn’t. I love the styling—I can’t stand convertibles—and with the roof up it looks hardtop-coupey swooptastic. I couldn’t get into the driving sensations, which are old hat by now. Huge power/torque disparity aside (not that much of an issue because it delivers the sensation of speed just fine), it simply feels looser and softer sprung than nearly everything here. Admittedly it leans way over and gives you plenty of notice before it lets go, but that got a little old for me after a while (especially on the downhill). I kept thinking that this couldn’t be the fastest setup for this car; couldn’t it be a little stiffer—a little more buttoned down—and thus, even faster feeling? (Or was the sense of speed—the inner ear trickery—tied to the squat and roll and early onset tire howl?) One new criticism: I was surprised to find it is not as easy to place on the road. Steering is slowish and lacks precision.” – Ed Loh “I’m not nearly as in love with the Miata as I thought I’d be. Maybe it’s fast car fatigue, but it felt unsettled to me, like it’s always dancing on the top of its springs and edge of its tires. I think less rotation on turn-in would help. Every time you crack the wheel, the rear end jumps over. It sticks, but it makes you think it’s going to dance around on you. The ESC grabbing at the brakes doesn’t help confidence. It’s especially frustrating because when you do turn it off, it’s fine. Yeah, the rear end is playful, but it’s not trying to swap ends on you. Because the chassis is so composed, it is impossible to over-drive it. I basically had the throttle mashed the entire way uphill Highway 198 and was carrying a good amount of speed, but no need for worry. The downside is that this means the engine is underpowered, and I wish Mazda would provide more thrust so that I could see just where the chassis limits are.”– Mark Rechtin “Wheeeeeeeeeee!” – Jonny Lieberman Randy Says “This car reminds me so much of the 1990, the Gen I, in terms of its light weight, body roll, that oversteering personality, especially on entry. It has very not-sticky tires on it. But it still does everything well anyway because of its light weight. It’s stable in braking when you’re straight, but if you’re braking when you turn, woo! You get sideways real quick and real easy. It has a lot of entry oversteer. It’s extremely well balanced on power. It’s loose off power, which is how the original Miata was too, the 1990. “On the street, it’s not as big a deal. But then there’s that entry oversteer, and part of where it’s coming from is that roll. The speed of it and the amount of it—it’s roll over steer, right? And when you turn, it rolls, and that roll has momentum. And that momentum brings the weight down on the outside tire. It shocks that tire, and the tire says, ‘Nope.’ “The car stopped well. It has a lot of brake dive. The pedal was a little long, which is unusual for a Miata. “A lot of these 500-horsepower cars are pretty much ridiculous on the street. And it’s so satisfying to be able to just track a car out, run it to redline, and snap off a quick shift with that great shifter. You look down, and you’re doing 64 miles an hour, not 120. “It is a nice drift car, though. I drifted all the way around turn two on purpose, just for the hell of it because it is such a fun, fun, fun, fun car. High on the fun factor.
