I’ll Take Care Of You
“It’s rotten work.”
“Not to me. Not if it’s you.”
My Vash/Reader sickfic that I’ve been promising! I’ve been dinking around trying to get it to a place I like and I like it now, so time to post! Read on AO3 here!
Tumblr media
Vash/Reader, 3,700+ words, GN!Reader, sickfic, sick reader, comfort, worried vash, non-sexual nudity, cuddling, sharing warmth, emeto/vomit warning
It's strange, when you're feeling unwell, how easy it is for the tiniest things to set you off.
There are plenty of day to day irritants in life, especially living on a desolate sand ball like No Man's Land. For the most part you'd learned to take many of them in stride, laughing when you could, letting the emotions roll over you like a wave when you couldn't until they receded softly back into the recesses of your mind and you could once again roll over and face the day ahead. It helped to have good company, and despite the crowded dune-crawler and the constant driving it entailed, you usually found somewhere amidst the chaos to enjoy yourself.
Not today.
You already hadn't felt well leaving the previous town, head and stomach swimming too much to risk eating more than some dry crackers and lukewarm canteen water, and even that made your innards pitch and roil dangerously. The car was constantly shifting, massive tires ping-ponging the entire chassis back and forth whenever you climbed over a particularly rocky bit of terrain and doing absolutely nothing to soothe the vertigo pooling in the bottom of your brain. It was too hot, too cramped, and worst of all?
Too. Damn. Loud.
Wedged between Wolfwood and Vash in the backseat, you had no escape from the blond's excessive snoring on your left and Nicholas leaning up over the center console to pester Meryl about her driving. Of course she was snapping back with equal levels of vitriol, voices rising slowly with each back and forth. In the passenger seat Milly was giggling along to their vicious banter, occasionally peppering in comments or fiddling with the radio dial, weather reports and religious sermons screeching through the fuzz.
The static of the radio crackled, Meryl's window-mounted fan clicked sharply with each rotation, Vash's head made a soft thunk as it connected with the glass of his window and Wolfwood kept hitting you with his elbow as he reached over the console and Milly was laughing and Meryl was yelling and Wolfwood was yelling back and-
"Hic…"
Your wet, little gasp silenced the car's occupants like a gunshot, your own hands too slow to stifle it from coming out. You could feel everyone's attention turn to you, even Vash beginning to stir to your left, and you couldn't tell if the heat flushing to your head was humiliation, sickness, heatstroke, or some miserable combination of the three. But you do know that said heat and said gazes made you curl up in the middle seat, covering your face with your long sleeves as you let out another miserable little sob.
"Are you alright back there?"
"Oh no, please don't cry! Do you feel carsick?"
"H-Hey, it's gonna be alright. Is this cause I kept hittin' ya with my elbow? Cause I said I was sorry."
You sobbed again, tears and snot and sweat running down your face and wetting your shirt sleeves as you pulled your knees up, curling as small as you could get. "'M sorry, 'm sorry, I'm fine."
"You're not fine! Did something happen?" Meryl couldn't look away from the road, but Milly had all but fully turned around in her seat to check on you.
"Do you need some water? I still have some if you're all out."
"C'mon, birdie, don't go all silent on us."
You wanted to shrivel up and dissolve into sand in the middle seat, curling in upon your own body as if it may actually make you disappear. This didn't help, it wasn't helping, it was just more noise and more worry and more hot tears running down your cheeks and you just wanted it all to stop.
"Hey, what's going on?"
Pulling your head up from your knees, you were met by Vash's hand gently brushing your forehead. His palm rested there, warm and steady, as he looked you over with a soft concern.
"You feel pretty warm. Is everything alright?" As he pulled away he brought his thumb down to swipe a stray tear from your cheek. You wanted to bawl, to clamber into his arms and let him cover you with his coat, shielding you from the heat and the noise and the (brightbrightwaytoobright) sun. But when you opened your mouth to speak, tongue dry and unsteady, you instead croaked out four, painfully small words.
"I'm gonna throw up."
"...Eh? EH?!? H-HANG ON!" You were jostled back by the force of Vash diving forward, clapping both hands over your mouth with a low groan. Your stomach pitched wildly, thick saliva pooling in the back of your throat as Vash jammed himself over the center console. "PULL OVER!"
"Wh-What? Why?" Meryl yelped when Vash exploded into her line of sight.
"JUST DO IT! PLEASE?!?"
She hardly needed to 'pull over' in the stretches of open desert, but the dune-crawler rumbled and bumped to a jerky halt that only served to make your stomach sickness worse. Not even waiting for Vash to unbuckle his seatbelt, you clambered over his lap and opened the door, collapsing to the ground just in time to empty the meager contents of your stomach into the hot sand. There was hardly anything to hack up, everything you'd eaten over the course of the day splattering out with a few shivering gags. But your body continued to retch out of your control, fresh tears dripping off your cheeks and into the puddle as you helplessly dry heaved on your hands and knees.
"Hey, hey, you're alright. Deep breaths, okay? I've got you." There was a cool hand brushing your hair back from your sticky forehead, and another rubbing the small space between your shoulder blades.
Finally, when your stomach had finished cramping and the last thick glob of saliva had drooled from your open mouth onto the sand, your body pitched forward dangerously, elbows collapsing from exhaustion. You would have face-planted straight into your own mess if Vash wasn't there to catch you, hauling you backwards so you could slump weakly against his chest as he sat with you in the sand. You could hear shuffling around you, footsteps, but your eyes were still blurry with moisture as you squinted weakly in the afternoon sun.
"Thanks, Milly. Here, drink this." You felt the rim of a canteen press to your lips, and let Vash tip your head back to take a swig of water.
"Don't drink too fast now, or you might get sick again!" One of Milly's large hands gently caressed the top of your head. "We've got plenty of time to get to the next town, so take as long as you need!"
"I'm sorry." You whimpered again, feeling twice as pathetic in the face of everyone's kindness. You could hear Meryl click her tongue somewhere off to your right.
"You don't have to apologize! Everybody gets sick sometimes, it's just a thing that happens."
"Yer lucky we're planning on a hotel tonight, way better than sleeping in the sand-OW! HEY!"
"Dingy!?"
"Quit being a jerk! They already don't feel good and you're not helping!"
"How am I not helping?" Wolfwood hissed. "I'm reminding them they don't have to sleep in the back of a dingy car all night!"
"Ooh, boy. There they go again." Vash sighed out a chuckle, hand never pausing as he carefully rubbed your upper arm. "Whenever you feel up for it, we can get going. Okay?"
As Meryl and Wolfwood continued to bicker quietly in the background, you let yourself melt fully into Vash's chest. His prosthetic arm came around your waist to keep you from slipping too far down, and you lolled your head back against his collarbone as your eyelids fluttered. "I'm sorry…" You slurred again, even though by this point you knew the apology was not necessary. "Jus' don't feel good…"
"You get a little silly when you're sick, don't you?" There was a teasing tone to Vash's voice, one that made you feel all warm and cozy in your chest. "You're being very polite right now."
"'M tired, Vash." You whined, rolling to your side a bit to nuzzle your cheek against his chest.
"I know." He said, so soft and so fond. "When we get back in the car, you can lay on me, alright? Then you can sleep the whole ride there. I promise."
"Mmh, yes please…"
You couldn't remember exactly how long you spent on the ground, just the vague feelings of Vash helping you to your feet, buckling your seatbelt for you after you clambered weakly back to your spot. As soon as he was seated he twisted his body towards you, leaning back against the car door so you could sprawl yourself out across his chest. And sprawl you did, fingers clutching absently at his coat as you tucked your face into the crook of his neck with a content little sigh. The dune-crawler rocked slightly as your other friends climbed into their respective seats, but with your cheek pressed to Vash's chest it didn't make you feel so dangerously nauseous anymore.
"Try getting some rest. We'll wake you up in the next town." His metal hand found the small of your hip and rested there, keeping you curled safely against his chest as the engine rumbled back to life. Eyelids dipping heavily, you mumbled out a few clumsy words of appreciation before blackness overtook your vision.
"Thank you… Vash…"
You didn't jostle blearily awake again until Meryl had already paid for your respective hotel rooms, letting you rest slumped against Vash in the backseat while she chatted with the man at the desk. Given the size of the town itself, it made sense that there would only be a few rooms available. Fortunately Meryl was able to book two doubles and a single, leaving you with your own space to recuperate while the rest of the group split the two double rooms between themselves.
"We'll be right across the street, okay?" Vash gave you a gentle pat on the shoulder as he pointed out the window of your hotel room to the nearby diner. "Try and get a little more rest, and I'll bring you back something for dinner!"
“Mhm… I will.” You mumbled. You'd let your travel bag thunk loudly to the floor next to your bed as you collapsed into the mattress. Some of the vertigo had subsided after your extended nap, but you hardly wanted to push your luck by trying to go out to dinner with everyone else.
"There's even a bath if you want to take one, might help you feel better." Vash gave a final, soothing rub to the space between your shoulder blades before you could hear him stepping away, boots thudding softly on the wood floor. "I'll be back before you know it. Sleep well."
"Have fuuuun." You sighed out, door clicking shut behind him and leaving you in silence. As tired as you were, there was a tacky sweatiness to your skin, sickness and desert heat making you feel distinctly gross to the touch. Maybe a bath would be a good idea after all…
Reluctantly, you slumped into a seated position before getting back to your feet. The bathroom was larger than you'd expected for the size of the inn, and your vision swam slightly as you reached over to fiddle with the knobs and start the sudden rush of water. It was even warm; how much did this place cost? Distantly you felt a little prickle of guilt, Meryl was probably spending extra just to make sure you could rest in a vague semblance of comfort. You'd have to be sure to thank her profusely, when you could actually think straight. You clumsily shed your clothes, letting them fall to the tiled floor as you slipped into the warm water and toed the knob back off again with your foot.
It felt good at first, dunking your head under the water and coming up again with a soft huff as rivulets ran from your hair. But you were far too tired to even wash yourself properly, and though the water barely bordered on warm, something about the heat made your dizziness spike all over again. You couldn't even bring yourself to stand back up to get out, slumping against the side of the tub and resting your cheek on the cool ceramic edge. All you needed was to close your eyes for a moment, and once the spiraling in your head stopped you'd be fine to climb back out again. You'd just get a little more rest in the meantime…
"Heyyy, are you feeling any better? I brought you some soup! We just need to bring the bowl back tomorrow morning."
Vash knocked twice on your door, but received no response. Man, you must be really exhausted. Your bedroom light was visible from the street, so when he saw it on he'd assumed you were still awake. He tried the handle, finding your door to still be unlocked.
"I'm coming in, okay?" He twisted the handle, hesitating just a moment before adding. "...Don't be naked!"
He shouldered the door open, one hand holding your lidded bowl of soup and the other covering his eyes. Kicking the door shut behind him, Vash hesitated a moment before peeking through his spread fingers. Your room was empty, bed still made, bag exactly where you'd dropped it just before he left. Vash's stomach sank, quickly setting the bowl on the table as he called out your name. You wouldn't have gone somewhere, would you? Did someone see him bringing you into the hotel, maybe peg you as a sidekick of The Humanoid Typhoon? There weren't any signs of a struggle, though. Maybe you were sicker than he thought, and he'd left you all alone when you were at your most vulnerable. His gaze flickered around the room, grasping for any sign of where you may have gone or what might have happened.
Finally, it landed on the bathroom door. It wasn't open when he left, and a slim trail of light was glinting from the gap between it and the doorframe. There was silence beyond it, a blistering, agonizing silence. He took two hesitant steps forwards, knocking shakily on the doorframe, before finally nudging it open and letting himself inside.
His heart twisted and stammered in his chest when his gaze finally landed on you, rabbiting up into a thundering panic when you didn't even acknowledge his entrance. You were slumped in the bathtub, one arm hanging over the edge and your cheek lolled against the rim of the basin, eyelids shut but fluttering weakly. There was a sickly pallor to your skin, and even from a distance Vash could see the goosebumps that had broken out across every stretch of it currently visible to him. You were even shivering, hard.
"H-Hey!" He didn't have time to be flustered at your state of complete undress, too busy stumbling forward to lift your limp and unmoving body from the bath. The water was cool, almost cold as he dunked his arms in, soaking the sleeves of his shirt and jacket as he hooked you under the armpits and pulled you into his arms. Letting himself sink to his knees so you could rest in his lap, he let go of you with one arm for just a moment, just long enough to grasp blindly at a towel on the counter to bundle you in. Your head thunked limply against his chest as soon as he had you wrapped in the towel and back in his arms. "Hey, can you hear me? I've got you now, it's gonna be okay."
It didn't feel like it was going to be okay, not to Vash at least. His stomach was swimming with guilt as he carried you back out to your bed, bundling you in the sheets and using the towel to dry the tips of your hair that were still damp. You were still shaking, thin blankets doing far too little to bring the warmth back to your body. Of course there wouldn't be any more stored in the hotel room either; it wasn't like anyone needed them most of the time anyway. He could dip back down the hallway and grab the blankets from his own bed, but that meant leaving you alone again, even for just another few moments. The thought made Vash feel vaguely sick himself.
Only one thing he could do then.
Vash shucked off his coat and tossed it over the back of a chair, hesitating for a moment before doing the same with his turtleneck. Waterlogged sleeves clung to his arms as he wrestled the damp thing off, dropping it unceremoniously onto the floor before moving back to your bedside. He tugged back the top blanket, leaving you swaddled in the sheet as he clambered in next to you and pulled the blanket back up to his chin. You let out a soft sigh through your nose as you curled instinctively into his warmth, tucking your face into the crook of his neck. Oh so hesitantly, like you were made of fine china, Vash draped an arm around your bundled form and splayed his hand out wide along the small of your back.
"I'm sorry…" He murmured, clutching your shuddering body like you would dissolve away between his fingertips if he relaxed, even for a moment. "I'm so sorry. I should have stayed. I won't leave again. I'm sorry."
"Mmmrh… Vash?"
He jolted, cupping your face with a hesitant call of your name as you blinked miserably awake. Head thumping and body aching, you squinted until Vash's face phased into clarity, all quivering lip and furrowed brow and stinging, glassy eyes. Weakly, you wrestled a hand free from the sheet, wiping at the corner of his eye with your thumb. He choked on a sob, melting into your palm with a relieved gasp.
"You're okay."
"Mmh… Head hurts a lot. What time is it?" You grumbled. The last thing you remembered was stooping down to run yourself a bath, then the rest of it faded into a hazy blur. Vash sniffled, pressing a kiss to your palm.
"Evening. Probably around 8? You passed out in the bath… It was really cold."
Fragmented memories began to click back into place, and you gripped the sheets close to your body with your free hand as you suddenly processed your own nudity. A spike of humiliation shot through you, as dulled as it was by your swimming senses.
"God, I'm sorry. I didn't scare you too bad, did I?"
Vash didn't respond, but the look on his face gave you all the answer you needed.
"Oh, honey." The sheets were tucked close up enough to your chest that you didn't hesitate to free your other hand to cup his face as well. His gaze trailed off to the corner of his eye, unable to keep contact with yours. "I'm so sorry, you must have been so worried."
"I-It's alright! It's not a big deal, really. I'm just glad you're okay."
You didn't relent, not yet, instead leaning in and pressing a kiss to the center of his forehead. "It is a big deal. I scared you, didn't I?"
"Not on purpose or anything."
"That doesn't mean it didn't feel real. Oh, Vash." His breath hitched when you murmured his name, another fresh tear or two slipping down his cheeks. "I'm okay. You found me and I'm gonna be alright, alright? I'm right here."
A tiny, pained whimper escaped him as he bundled you into his arms, hiding his teary face in the crook of your neck. Both flesh and metal hands fisted the fabric draped across your back as he pressed a kiss to the soft space in between your neck and your shoulder. "I shouldn't have left. I should have made sure you were okay. I shouldn't have told you to take a bath."
"Hey, hey, hold on. You didn't make me do anything, I chose to take a bath. None of this is your fault, Vash. Things happen sometimes." Your cradled the back of his head in one hand, and rubbed soothing circles across his broad back with the other. "You came to check on me, and you found me, and you got me warm. You're so good, Vash. My wonderful boy."
He sniffled against your neck again, but you could feel the faintest hint of a smile pressed against your skin. "...I brought you some soup. Are you hungry?"
You hummed, trailing your fingertips up and down the jut of his shoulder blade. "In a little bit. Can you warm me up a bit more first? You're like a living space heater."
Finally, you could feel some of the nervous tension begin to eke out of Vash's muscles as he began to melt into your arms. He tugged you forward, just enough that your fronts were pressed together from the chest all the way down to where your legs intertwined, thin fabric sheet separating your bare chests.
"Good? Not too warm?" His heartbeat was thundering loud enough for you to feel, his hands so gentle where they rested upon your exhausted body. "Let me know if you get too warm, okay?"
"I will. But this is perfect." You nuzzled your forehead against his shoulder, making him stifle a soft chuckle. "I could fall asleep again."
"Not yet! You've got to at least eat something first, okay? After you eat, then you can sleep."
"Always looking after me.~" You cooed. "I will, okay? In just a few minutes."
Your answer seemed to placate him for now as he pressed another kiss to your neck, light and chaste. He nosed along your jawbone, breath light and ticklish as he murmured. "Can I stay here tonight? I know I have my own room, and you need to rest, and I don't want to be a bother, but-"
"Yes." You replied, before he could talk himself out of it. "Yes, please stay with me. I want you to."
There was a palpable relief in the sigh he let out at your response. "Good. Cause I probably just would have camped out in the hallway if you said no. Might get in trouble with the owners for that."
"Well we can't have that happen, now can we?"
"No we cannot.~"
You chuckled, body feeling light for the first time that day as you let Vash cradle you in his steady arms.

General (Stampede) Wolfwood x reader headcanons cause he makes my brain go brrrr
Tumblr media
Also, reader is gn and there is some nsfw below the cut!
You’re in the car when Meryl hits him, and the first one to his side to see if he’s still breathing. When he looks up at you and sees the sun haloing your face, he thinks he’s died and gone to heaven
Nickname’s you “angel” for the day
“And that just leaves the last one for me and the angel.” The dark-haired man flashes you a grin, nodding towards the fourth chamber inside the giant worm.
“Wait, hang on, why do I have to go with you?” You stammer out, heat rising to your cheeks.
“You guys don’t trust me right? Wouldn’t it be smarter to keep an eye on me then?”
“Would be better if I went instead,” Roberto cuts in, eyeing the man.
“Sorry old man, you’re not really my type.” He waves Roberto off before heading towards the opening of the chamber. “Now we don’t have any time to waste standing around.”
“Y/n” Roberto tosses you his gun. “Shoot’em in the knees if he tries anything.”
“Yes sir”
You’re surprised when he’s the one who pulls you from the giant worm’s guts. And after thanking him, he gives you his name.
Falling asleep on Wolfwood’s shoulder in the car is just a habit that wordlessly happens after he joins the group. At first you would just lean your head back and try to stay upright while squished between Vash and Wolfwood. However, this will lead to your head bobbing a lot and not actually being able to fully fall asleep so after watching it happen for the tenth time, Wolfwood just guides your head down gently onto his shoulder. Vash would definitely raise an eyebrow at him but Wolfwood would ignore it with the deepest blush on his face.
When you ask him to do something for you the first time, he’ll ask for a kiss as a reward.
If the request flusters you, he’ll laugh saying he’ll put it on your tab and wink. If you take him up on the request, he’ll completely lose his composure and be stuttering out nonsense (honestly didn’t think you’d actually do it).
Keeps his white shirt unbuttoned even more than normal after catching you staring one day (I MEAN HAVE YOU SEEN THIS MAN’S TITS?????)
Will sometimes just hand you his cross just to see you struggle with holding it up. Thinks it’s hilarious and always waits until you beg for his help.
WILL MANHANDLE YOU JUST LIKE HIS GUN THIS MAN LOVES HOW STRONG HE IS AND WILL SHOW OFF EVERY CHANCE HE GETS
While running from danger Wolfwood will legit throw you over his shoulder and carry his weapon under his other arm
If you are getting shot at though, he will use his god-given strength to throw you out of the way. You might still get hurt, but better to be alive with a broken arm than be dead full of bullet holes.
I think every time he uses one of his vials, it also heals the damage in his lungs from that nasty smoking addiction and that’s why he can still sprint at full speed without wheezing
Will finally have his Oh shit I’m in love with them moment after you get hurt for the first time (I have a fic im writing for the confession and it’s so good omg) but keeps it to himself because he isn’t sure you feel the same. Probably thinks you wouldn’t ever want to be with a man who calls himself an undertaker.
Even before his big realization, Wolfwood was very protective of you. If you got into a disagreement at a bar, he knew you could handle yourself, but that didn’t stop him from hovering behind you with a deadly aura, his eyes threatening any man who dare approach you.
A nsfw treat >:)
I honestly believe this man is the definition of a switch
Like I feel like he himself would be such a brat, but also could dish it out to a brat partner???
SUCH A TEASE
Praise and body worship!!!!!!!! Literally your body is a temple to him
I feel like he would have some silly and serious moments with you. Like this man makes LOVE to you, but also just loves to tease and fluster you and loves when you get shy/embarrassed.
But Wolfwood is also so easy to fluster too so it’s just a battle of who can shut the other person up first
He’s got some hot breathy moans (lord have mercy)
Wolfwood will say a prayer before going down on you
He’ll have you naked, situated on the bed so that your legs hang off the edge while he’s knelt in front of you on the floor
“Oh heavenly father, I have come to thank you-”
“Nicholassss what are you doing?” You laugh as you prop yourself up on one elbow to give him a look.
“Uh, thanking the lord for this meal? You’re ruining it. Now I have to start over.”
He’ll trail kisses up your leg and thighs while finishing his prayer, before finally bringing his eager lips to where you need them the most.

Your roommate vash au is so cute!! He would be the sweetest boy to live with, I’m imagining him constantly offering you his clothes now he realises how it makes you feel after the sweater fiasco…
Oh, absolutely.
ao3. [part 1.] part 2. coming home to you is a pilgrimage. [part 3a, 3b.]
Roommate!Vash who gives you his favorite pullover during movie night while you huddle up next to Meryl on the couch, the boys taking up the floor—all long limbs and soft bickering.
“Your foot stinks,” Wolfwood deadpans.
“That’s your breath,” Vash quips, not taking his eyes off the screen.
“Shh!” comes from both you and Meryl. Sorry, Vash mouths, twisting behind him to rest his hand on your calf, rubbing soothing circles with his thumb. You bite into the plush fabric of his pullover when he turns away, taking his hand with him.
Roommate!Vash whose fingers skim over your hips when he helps you out of the shirt you borrowed, an extra large tee over your outfit that says “Someone from España Loves Me”—a “failed” gag gift (because he really does love me, Vash delivers earnestly) from Nicholas when he walked the Camino de Santiago last spring.
Specks of semolina fall off the front as he lifts the shirt above your head and slides it down your arms. He stops at your hands, surprising you with how he tugs off the tacky dough from your fingers and creases the red Love Me letters in the process.
“Sorry,” he murmurs, his amusement coming through, “I’m used to messy kids.”
You can feel the thundering of your pulse point as he concentrates on his task, the few seconds of his ministrations feeling both too long and too quick for what it was. You may have let out something high-pitched and unintelligible, but not even a small quirk of his lips shows that he’s heard it.
“There,” his tone is smug. “You’re pasta-free.”
He smiles so easily at you every time.
When roommate!Vash finds out that the straps of your apron broke, he goes back to his room to fetch an old volunteering shirt and a pair of sweatpants.
“You can get anything on them. Acrylic, oil...the blood of your enemies,” he says slyly. You roll your eyes as you take the clothes from his grasp, and without thinking twice, you lean up to brush your lips against his cheek.
“Thank you, Vash,” you say softly, touch light against his jaw.
-
Roommate!Vash catches you painting one day after coming home early for once. A thick, grey cloud had hovered over him, plagued by the comments his attending had been making all day, the patient interview that he felt he failed, and the general feeling of incompetence he’s been having during this rotation. Not to mention the weight of today in general…
He recognizes the first few notes of the song you’re playing, anticipating the lyrics in his head when—
The setting sun casts an orange glow on your meadow, the red field of flowers livened by its warmth. You have your leg propped on the stool, neck craned towards the canvas and holding a fine tip to the surface. He feels his brain rewire watching your profile, the relaxed lines of your body against the seafront view, next to Arno, his child—
Then he sees it. Lighthanded brush strokes, like smoke, like river. Ink lines that curve high along your thigh and disappear beneath the the bunched hem of his shirt and—
“Fuck, are those doughnuts?” he exhales in disbelief.
“Yes?” you respond cautiously, struck by the slackening of his jaw and his wide-eyed gaze. “I got us some.”
Then you’re walking over wearing only his shirt with a half-dozen box in hand, fingers sickly-sweet from strawberry jam. Vash looks at the box, then the sugar on your hand, then your legs, and back.
“Where are your pants?” he asks dumbly.
“Your sweats were too big so I put them on your bed,” you shrug. “This shirt is very comfy, though,” you say, shifting on your feet. “Hey, are you alright?”
Vash had buried face in his hands, the frames of his glasses digging uncomfortably into his sockets. My roommate’s an angel, he groans.
A literal being sent from heavenohgodI’mnotgonnasurviveI’mnogonnasurvive.
When you finally pry apart his hands and look up at him with that soft gaze yours, asking, Did you have a bad day? Vash relaxes into your grip and thinks, you undo me so easily every time.
-
[ Bonus:
Nai glares at the corner of his entryway. His clothes haven’t arrived, as he’d asked. Then, pinching the bridge of his nose and shutting the door behind him, he stalks towards the living room and sets down his pizza box on the coffee table. It’s not his usual choice, but he was in their old neighborhood for once. The pizza place was Vash’s favorite, and today of all days, he especially misses his brother.
He presses the play button on his speakers before he enters the shower, letting the water wash away some of the tensions of the day. Nai leisurely rolls his neck, moaning softly under his breath, and goes through the rest of his bath with some needed mindfulness.
Ludions was one of the earliest pieces Rem taught them, elementary to both him and Vash, really, but oh, how they delighted with the last poem about the obese cat Potasson.
“Mom, I’d like one, too,” Vash asked as a child, fingers resting against the keys. Eyes alight with laughter, their mother had responded, “Alright, but perhaps not the big kind.”
With a towel slung low on his hips, Nai palms at his face with both hands. There’s something that Vash gave him shoved in the depths of his drawer. He knew he should have burned it when he had the chance, but he couldn’t make himself do so. It was his baby brother’s gift after all.
Steeling himself, Nai snatches the white tee underneath his pile of socks and dons it along with a pair of joggers. His surly expression reflects back at him and his eyes inevitably rove over the words generously streched across his chest:
small tits, big heart.
He snorts once before snapping a picture, sending it to Vash. Hope you’re doing okay today. Call me when you get the chance.
On the top of his screen is the perpetual notification of the day.

He couldn't take his eyes off you.
Smiling at the Humanoid Typhoon, you laughed with him. Him. That stupid Needle Noggin'. Wolfwood's head was on the counter of the bar holding his drink like it would run away the moment he released his death grip on the glass. The bartender noticed his sour mood, but that's nothing new to them. Every once in a while, a depressed patreon comes in and drowns themselves in their sorrow, thinking alcohol would help them. Wolfwood was no different right now. He knows for sure Roberto noticed his longing gaze on you as you warped a hand around Vash's shoulder, laughing cheerfully, and the blond brought his drink next to yours, making a *clank* sound.
Vash just seemed to make you smile so easily. Why couldn't he be the only one to make you smile? Well… he does. Wolfwood's eyes have a spark in them, remembering the time he made you laugh. Oh, how he would love to hear that sound again.
Your laugh was precious.
One night, Wolfwood smoked up a storm, as usual. Sitting down in the sand and lighting a cigarette, he saw a figure sit down next to him. He knew it was you. He could never mistake you for someone else. Your aura had something special that instantly calmed the raging demons inside of him. He didn't turn to you, only looking ahead of him. Everyone was asleep. Meryl was asleep in the truck with Roberto, and Vash was on top of the truck snoring loudly.
Why didn't you just go to sleep?
Why must you bother him with your presence?
The moment you're close to him, he wants to hold you close to him.
Cage his arms around you, bury his nose in your hair as your smell envelopes his entire being.
He had to restrain himself. He just quietly enjoyed your presence. This was enough for him.
You stared at him and Wolfwood felt like one of his strings was just about ready to break and he would have kissed you right then and there, but he stubbornly held himself back. You moved closer to him and spoke.
„Wolfwood, why are you always awake so late at night?“ You questioned. Oh, how he loved the gentle way your voice would sound when you called out his name. His heart clenched. How he wished to hear you say his real name, Nicholas. His heart clenched tighter in his chest.
„Can't sleep. What about you though, Stardust? You're always out like a light the moment the moons appear in the sky.“ You chuckled quietly. Wolfwood felt his pride grow at your chuckle. He was the one who made you do that, not him. Not that outlaw.
You looked at the sky and laid down from your sitting position. You stared at the moons glowing brightly in the sky. „I just… can't sleep. Too many thoughts I guess. I thought that all that running we did today to protect Vash would leave me glued to my sleeping bag. But I guess not, my brain decided otherwise instead!“ You yelled that last part a bit loudly. Your hands flew to your mouth and you looked around alarmingly, hoping that your sudden outburst didn’t wake anyone up - thankfully, it didn’t.
Wolfwood chuckled deeply at your worry for the others. God, you could be so adorable, he thought as he finally turned around to look at you. What he saw was something he never saw you do before in his presence. Your face flushed, a beautiful red hue coloured over your cheeks, gentle eyes wide with what seemed to be joy and something else, your fingers barely brushing over your plump pink lips.
„Sorry, I didn't mean to be loud there.“ You chuckled nervously, quickly burying your face in your hands. No, why are you apologizing? You just gave him the most beautiful image he would keep for eternity in his mind. In that moment, he would replay that image of your flushed face over and over and over again. Oh, how he wished to take your hands away from your face and gaze at your beautiful features. In private, he noticed you didn’t like looking at yourself in mirrors. When he asked about it, you gave a small and quick answer with a small smile, saying that you didn’t really like the way you looked though he needn’t worry about it.
But he thought differently. The moment he saw you he thought that God himself had sent you to soothe him, to forgive him of all the sins he's committed. You were so beautiful to him. You were gorgeous, pretty, breathtaking, amazing, and all the words he couldn’t think of in that moment that could possibly describe your beauty. To reach out to you, to hold you steady in his arms, an angel sent to No Man's Land, would be a dream come true.
He stayed calm and collected, dragging his cigarette and puffing out a cloud of smoke. „No matter. You don't need to say sorry. Tell me, child, what sinful thoughts are running through your mind?“ Wolfwood teased. You shoot up from your lying position immediately, and your face flushed again at his statement before snorting. Every time you snorted, you put a hand on your mouth, stifling it as much as you could. „You shouldn't hide your laugh like that, Stardust.“ He said as he grinned wildly, enjoying this rare moment of you two being alone together.
„Hey-„ You started but quickly stopped as you saw Vash stir in his sleep on top of the truck. You lowered your voice as you started poking the priest on his shoulder. „You can't just say stuff like that! Also, I would never confess anything to you. You're a lousy priest, after all. Carrying a cross around that's actually a machine- actually laser- whatever gun- it's not holy even in the slightest!"
You started poking him more on purpose to annoy him. "Does." *poke* "Not." *poke* "Count." *poke* "To." *poke* "Being." *poke* "A." *poke* "Priest." *poke*
Wolfwood laughed deeply. You stopped poking him, and as you were about to ask what was so funny, you felt his hand grab yours and pull you towards him. You squealed softly, feeling your cascade over him. You closed your eyes as you felt your cheek hit something hard. As you opened your eyes, you saw that you were on his chest and Wolfwood was lying down in the sand. You held yourself up on your elbows as you were about to scold Wolfwood for laying in the sand. His clothes will get dirty! But then again, you were laying on the sand a minute ago as well…
As you were about to say something you saw something in his eyes. A sparkle? A trick of the light? A small, fragmented glow that you could have easily missed if you never challenged yourself to stare into his eyes. His dark eyes stared right back at you. Minutes felt like hours, and the two of you wished this very moment would last forever.
Wolfwood stared at you longingly, adoringly. He was so close to you, your bodies touching and molding perfectly, as though you were made for each other, and he wanted nothing more than to caress your cheek and close the distance between the two of you.
God, your lips never looked so inviting before. He could feel his inner demons taunt him in the back of his mind, telling him to give in to his selfish desires. To keep you close to him forever and never let go.
Ah-
You seem to snap back to reality. You smile at him, flashing that gorgeous smile which causes his heart to ache painfully with longing and he feels a sense of pride warm his chest. Only he got to see that delicate smile of yours. Only he knows the worth of that dazzling smile.
„I'll confess to you. Not my sins, but my thoughts, if you are willing to listen, Father.“ That last word was supposed to come off as a tease but your gentle tone and smile failed to give it any teasing remark. You noticed that Wolfwood didn't have his signature sunglasses on. You never realised he took them off to begin with. He didn’t even have a cigarette trapped between his lips. Where did his last bud go? You feel exposed like this. You take a deep breath and stare at Wolfwood's awe-struck expression. He blinks up at you, watching as you adjusted your position so you were now straddling his hips, his hands unknowingly pressing into your thighs and holding onto them.
He had to suppress a groan of satisfaction at the sudden contact and he chose to ignore it - for now.
He grins up at you. You giggle at his expression.
„I'm all ears, Stardust.“ He said softly, encouragingly. You start speaking about something, something about your day, the fears you encountered today, fears from the past. But he couldn't hear you, your words falling deaf to his ears. He could only admire your features as you spoke. Your eyes, nose, cheeks, eyebrows, lips - he's so hyper focused on everything that is you right now. You, atop of him under the night sky, the shining glow of the moons, painting you like a portrait in his eyes. Oh, how he wishes he had a camera on him right now, just so he could save the image of what he saw. You, under the night sky above him, confessing all your fears to him. Not just to any priest, but to him, to Nicholas.
A sharp sound of glass hitting the counter breaks his reminiscing. He groans as he sees Roberto staring down at him with squinted, blood-shot eyes.
„What do you want, Scruffy?“ Wolfwood manages to blurt out in his drunken state. Meryl appears from behind Roberto, looking at Wolfwood. She feels pity for him. Her and Roberto - even in their tipsy state - could clearly see Wolfwood’s look of longing as he stared at you. 'It's pathetic!', Meryl said to Robreto. If he can tease and bicker with her all the time, not sparing her of any harsh words he spews out at her, he should be able to tell you how he feels with just as much ease. And anyone with a pair of eyes can tell he feels strongly about you.
Meryl noticed the way his demeanor sparks up like a firecracker when you talk with him. She also noticed how he never seems to tease you as harshly as he does her. When you back her up though, he seems to tone it down a notch as you tease him back and then you both start throwing playful, teasing insults at one another. Those moments are what make Wolfwood smile when he thinks no one else realises. A genuine smile from Wolfwood, Meryl noted. Looks like you're the only one that can wipe that shit-eating grin off his face. You poke your tongue out and make funny faces at him as Meryl hides behind your back. The moment you turn around though, taking Meryl with you, she turns around and pokes her tongue out at the Undertaker as he quietly growls back at her as Vash tries to calm him down by patting his shoulder lightly.
Back to the present, Meryl looks at you and Vash speaking together about a random topic she didn’t have much of an interest in joining in. She was too tired to deal with you and Vash and your drunken bullshit. But she's also tired of Wolfwood's bullshit. She swipes the undertaker's drink from his hand as he tries to reach back for it only for him to slump back down to the counter.
God that's a depressing sight.
She pulls Wolfwood back up with her hands gripping his shoulders. He simply stares back at her, a sour expression on his red cheeked face and a heated glare which sent daggers straight into Meryl’s soul.
Some kind of priest, huh?
„You HAVE to talk to her! Call her up to your room and talk. Do you have any idea how depressing and creepy it is to watch you stare at (Y/N) for almost 2 hours now? Big guy handling a machine gun almost double his size but can't handle telling his true feelings towards someone? How pathetic.“ Meryl exclaimed dramatically, flailing her hands around as she spoke.
Hearing her words awakened something deep in Wolfwood. It felt like anger, but it was far more primal than that. Anger which he had never realised he felt before - until he watched you laugh joyfully with Needle Noggin’ of all people.
„I'll show you ‘pathetic’ little lady. I'll SHOW you.“ He stood up from his chair and walked over to where you and Vash were sitting. He stares at you and Vash as you both don't notice him at all, too caught up in your conversation.
Oh , how he wishes he could just blow out the blond’s brain with the Punisher.
He clears his throat as you and Vash try to find where the sound came from. Yours and Vash’s attention are now on Wolfwood, and you smile brightly at him.
You were drunk. From the way you swayed back and forth even when firmly sat on the stool to the hazed look of joy and drunken stupor in your eyes. It took you a moment to realise that it was Wolfwood, but when you did, your heart immediately sparked with a joy that clearly formed in your eyes.
„WOLFWOOD! Join us~ me and Vash were just talking about you hehehe~“ You and the blond giggle at each other as Wolfwood stares blankly at the two of you, his brow arching slightly.
„Yeahhhh! Come have some fun! You always have a frown imprinted on your face, I bet (Y/N) could help replace it with a smileee~! Your smiles are JUST the best hahaha~.“ Vash says as you hit him playfully on the shoulder telling him ‘staaawppp it Vashhh'.
Wolfwood thinks he might hurl the sight of you two.
He shakes his head as he remembers the reason why he's here. „You're coming with me, Stardust, we need to talk.“ He takes your hand causing you to whine and wave back at Vash, who was simply far too drunk to even stop you from being kidnapped.
Wolfwood drags you through the bar and through the hallways of the hotel you're all staying at. You stare up at him thinking what the hell has gotten into him, though you did not make a move to stop him even as his grip tightened around your wrist, causing you to hiss in pain.
He stopped immediately, eyes widening slightly at the realisation that he was hurting you. How could he treat you like this when he was just worshipping you in his head a minute ago?
Wolfwood loosens his grip but never lets go, the warmth of his hand sending shivers up your arm and spine. You both walk together in comfortable silence as he takes you to his room, a whirlwind of emotions spinning through both of your minds.
He briefly lets go of your wrist to unlock the door to his room, and you rub your hand unconsciously, missing the warmth that was there moments ago.
When he finally manages to unlock the door, it swings open and he holds it for you, gesturing for you to enter first like a true gentleman. You chuckled.
It was a rather small room, but neither of you had the right to complain. Having a bed and a roof over your head was better than slumbering in the back of some car in the middle of the desert. The quiet priest walks past you as you make your way to his bed, taking a seat on the very edge as he turns the lamp on to illuminate the darkened room.
You patiently wait, watching curiously as he removes his sunglasses from his face and takes off his jacket. You felt your cheeks warm at the sight - seeing him so exposed yet still perfectly covered. It felt like home, in a way. You felt the bed dip slightly as he sat right next to you, leaving only a small distance between the two of you. His head hung low and he stared at the floor, unsure of what to say.
There was a moment of silence, which was cut abruptly by the sound of his soft, hesitant voice.
„Stardust, remember the night when you confessed your fears to me?“ You nod, and he continues. „That night I think I finally realised I couldn't take my damn hands off you. I craved your presence. I hogged all of your attention that night and I was drunk on it. I was… drunk on you in general.“ He laughed deeply as you felt your cheeks warm up. „Every time darn time that Needle Noggin’ is with you, I want to tear his head off with my bare hands. You give so much to him and he makes you smile so easily and I wish… I wish I could make you smile the same way he does and I-„ He stops himself abruptly, his hands clenching together.
Wolfwood dared to look up at you, to see your reaction to his words and he swore his heart skipped a beat then and there. You smiled at him, so serenely, so beautiful.  A smile, he confesses, he has only ever seen once before. The same smile he saw on that night. He suddenly felt too embarrassed to continue.
He stared at the floor for what felt like long, agonising minutes until he felt something soft and gentle touch his cheek. Wolfwood looked over at you.
Your hand.
Your hand was touching him, of your own free will.
You scooted closer to him. He felt your hips and legs touch his and he felt a shiver go through him. God, he craved you so much that it was absolute torture to not just take you in his arms right then and there. He felt like he was going to fall apart just from your touch.
But he waited. Patiently. He waited until he was certain that this was not some sick dream he was having. He needed to know that it wasn’t just his mind playing a cruel trick on him.
You could feel his scent - the smell of burnt ash and whiskey. You leaned forward, pressing your forehead against his. His breath hitched in his throat when you began to speak. „I love you, Wolfwood. I have for a very long time now, actually. Ever since I met you with the crew.“
The Undertaker raised his hand over your own that rested on cheek, his warm palm shooting sparks up your arm.
He could stay like this forever.
„Don't you… Don’t you like Needle Noggin?“ Wolfwood questioned.
You pulled back, creating space between the two of you as you stared at him with wide eyes. Then, much to his shock, you burst into a fit of laughter, causing Wolfwood to deadpan at your reaction and for you to apologise in between chuckles.
„Vash and I? No! We're just travel companions. We have known each other for a long time but we have more of a sibling relationship. Nothing romantic.“ You explain.
For the first time that night, Wolfwood exhaled a deep breath of relief that he did not realise he was holding. You chuckled at his reaction.
A moment of comfortable silence slipped between the two of you as you shared this tender moment. Sparks of adoration and longing tantalised your fingers and heart strings and a primal look formed in Wolfwood’s dark eyes, a look which only you could create.
He wanted more. Something inside him is telling him to just go for it.
Take your chance, Nicolas.
It's now or never.
Without even realising it, Wolfwood managed to wrap his arm around your waist and hoist you onto his lap in one swift, fluid motion, which made you silently scream.
Your face was crimson red as you stared at him with wide eyes. Oh, how he simply loved that look on your face - a look which was caused by only him and no one else. And for that, he felt smug.
„Wh- Wha-” You started and Wolfwood hushed you gently, brushing away strands of loose hair behind your ear as he brought you closer, so close that you could feel his hot breath against your lips.
„What are you doing…?“ You asked quietly, your soft voice nearly going unheard.
Wolfwood was a greedy man. He knew that from the very beginning. But with you? ‘Greedy’ wasn’t even the right word to describe what he felt for you.
„I have something to confess to you, Stardust.“ His intense gaze flickered between your lips and sparkling eyes. You moved forward as if on pure instinct, more than prepared to close the gap between you.
He could no longer wait. Not now. Not ever. Not when the demons on his shoulder told him to take every part of you.
And that is exactly what he planned on doing.
He moved his hand to the back of your neck and gently brought his lips onto yours.
Desperation was sharp on his lips. His hand wandered from your neck to your hair, fingers brushing through soft strands while his other hand held your shaking form in place.
He grew cocky, biting your lower lip gently, slipping his tongue through the folds when you gasped softly against him. He smiled triumphantly into the kiss, pulling you even closer with a hand pressed to the small of your back.
You could taste the longing on his tongue, the need and want, as you both fought for domination, though the winner was clear from the very beginning. Your presence alone could only satiate a small part of his hunger for you. He wanted - no, he needed - more of you.
Every single part of you was enticing, inviting him in as your hands roamed his clothed chest and arms, the butterflies in your stomach fluttering around madly. You wanted this too, for so long.
It was so hard to believe any of this was real. But it was. And the marks will remain there long after you both are done.
You both pulled away from one another to catch your breaths, your foreheads pressed together, and the tips of your noses touching. Wolfwood chuckles breathlessly, holding you close. „I haven't even confessed yet, my angel."
You look up at him with half-lidded eyes, lips twitching upward into a smile. „Didn't you basically show how you felt?“ You pointed out, laughing softly.
Wolfwood shakes his head, inhaling your scent deeply as he cups your warm cheeks in the palm of his hands. He looks up at you with glossy eyes filled with hope, with love. Gorgeous, sparkling black eyes which now possessed a light in them.
„I love you. I love you so much (Y/N).“ He kisses you again. „The number of times I thought about you have been endless. Every waking moment, I think about you. Even in my own dreams, I can only think of you.“
This time, you pull him by the collar of his shirt, and you plant your lips firmly against his. Tears sting the back of your eyes, and you can feel them fall slowly, steadily, which Wolfwood wipes away with his thumb tenderly.
Even out of pure joy, he did not wish to see you cry.
„I love you too, Nicholas. I love you so much Nico. I love you, I love you!“ You cheerfully chant, his name rolling off your tongue perfectly. You couldn't stop the words from falling out like a waterfall.
You do love him afterall.
Wolfwood wrapped his strong arms around you and pulled you down onto the bed with him. He buries his face into your hair and kisses the top of your head lovingly. You nuzzle your face into his chest, the rapid beating of his heart and his scent lulling you to sleep.
He holds you tighter, your words repeating in his head and he could not help but smile.
I love you. I love you. I love you.
A man, a sinner like him, should not be so fortunate. He has killed many, committed many sins whether they be the work of God or not. But, even so, a kind-hearted and gentle person like you could look past all of his fatal flaws and love him so dearly.
If this is the work of demons, then damn, so be it. He would spend an eternity in primordial flame if it meant that he could always hold you as close as he was holding you now.
He, Nicholas, fell asleep with you wrapped protectively in his arms, smiling.
He finally heard your voice call out his name.

hi your writing is beautiful!! could i request vash or wolfwood realizing that they are super touch-starved? like, the reader casually puts their arm around them, or they brush hands while one of them is passing something to the other. they realize how long it’s been since they’ve touched someone, so they seek out the reader for help/ the reader notices and offers some comfort. or, it would be interesting to have the roles reversed and the reader is the touch-starved one >:3
Hi nonnie! Thank you a lot for such a cute request. I decided to write about Vash and touch-starved reader, cause who's not touch-starved for this plant boy? Warnings: fem reader, reader's body is described as smaller than Vash's, fluff, slight pining from reader's side. Also, written with Trimax Vash in mind, though companios are from Tristamp. My brain is a mess at this point 😭
Vash x touch-starved reader.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You found yourself in quite the predicament as Vash’s hand was placed carefully on your shoulder, his face too close to you for your liking. Standing behind you, trying to position his head beside yours to trail your gaze, pinpointing the specific scattering of stars he found especially pretty. You couldn’t comprehend how you’ve even happened to be placed in this situation, with Meryl and Roberto already snoring in the car and Wolfwood lurking somewhere in the dark and treacherously cold night desert. Vash simply asked if you wanted to talk about something if you weren’t sleepy. And well, now you feel the distinct heat from his body seeping so brazenly into yours while he was innocently (was he?) trying to show you some stars. And the worst of it all, you were standing there, greedily absorbing every sensation you could, never have been spoiled by frequent manifestations of physical affection by your plant companion.
It was almost funny and absurd to some point, how effortlessly physical he was with just passerby’s, the crowds of celebrating townsfolk gathered in various saloons he attended with you, kids playing on the streets with him, anyone hurt who needed some kind of comfort. But he was so distant and unattainable to you, and well, to your whole group, seemingly afraid or avoiding the touch if not necessary. Being squished between his and Wolfwood’s shoulders in the car didn’t quite feel the same as this rare closeness. The sense of unavoidable touch of bodies packed inside an overly cramped car exasperated by the insufferable heat, and sometimes the smell of Roberto’s hungover didn’t feel like anything but the time on the road you need to bear with.
So now you continued shamelessly pretending to not be able to spot the stars Vash has been trying to point you at. It almost boiled down to a comical situation, hearing his frustrated puffs and slightly whining notes in his tone: “Oh come on, you should’ve already spotted them”, “You sure you don’t need glasses, you seem to be awfully short-sided, missy”. Finally, you became flustered enough to admit that you’ve spotted the correct constellation to the absolute Vash’s joy. He expectedly removed the warmth of his body from you in a minute his touch was not needed anymore, so you uncontrollably shrugged and shivered at the lack of it, feeling the chilly air slightly penetrating your jacket. “Feeling cold? Maybe we should head back to the camp?” Vash worriedly suggested. It was a reasonable idea, you thought. Reasonable and the most possible to happen now.
You turned to look at his face, brows slightly furrowed in concern, the prettiest teal eyes gazing intently at you, as if trying to access your condition. It was so familiar to you already: him being so close, yet so unattainable. You almost agreed, but something greedy and neglected stirred inside you yet again, completely winning over your shyness and doubtfulness. “Can you…can you just hug me? It’ll make me feel warm enough. I uhh…don’t want to return to the camp now”. Vash’s eyes slightly widened at that, his eyes dancing over your face features, until you noticed the corners of his lips curving up slightly. The next thing you’ve felt was Vash’s hands turning you gently away from his front and rubbing your arms up and down, his head resting on top of yours.
Ah, so that’s what elation feels like? Feels like neediness cowering away and greediness being properly fed in such a long time. You wondered how long you can go starving for after this moment ends. Something tugged once again at your insatiable little heart and you decided to dull its desires by tugging on Vash’s hands still rubbing at your shoulders and placing them around your frame, placing your delicate hands over his arm. A cat-like grin appeared on your face at his small surprised yelp.

Jojolands 13: Ohana Means I'll Set Your Ass on Fire
Tumblr media
Dragona dropping some great truth about the absurd in this bizarre adventure. We finally got a peak behind that mask. I love it and I hate it, if you've read the chapter already you know what I mean. We'll get to that, because this right here isn't spoilery and it was such a cool nugget.
I love the way Dragona talks about the "absurd." Chance moments that alter one's life for better or for worse. The things that just don't make sense. Especially paired with Dragona opining about nearly losing their heart in the same chapter that last part about hearts being destroyed hits hard. I'm definitely sure we're looking at a trans narrative here and one we'll see play out. The chapter does a good job of implying what we need to know. Nudges at an early theory you've been changing your body with Smooth Operator. We ready? What follows is no place for beginners or sensitive hearts:
Tumblr media
Oh HELL yes! As if I needed a reason, these two were well on their way to top Jojo status and now the dynamic duo of the Joestar Siblings are definitely there. Mean girl sets her sights on a much more timid Dragona who we now know looked way more masculine at 14 than 18. Talking physical build and not just fashion. You know, I don't expect an 18yo to have all that figured out and with this I do think we'll see her keep coming into her own. But holy shit that was fucked up and I sincerely hope we can get through the rest of this with no more sexual assault on my Jojos blorbo.
If they do...Jodio will fuck you up. Set a whole damn bus on fire! And while I'm not looking forward to having to relive the impetus in the inevitable anime adaptation, since we've already had the cop I kinda like the perpetrator being a girl here. For one because it shows a side of this kind of bigotry that often goes underrepresented. You see a little more space made typically for trans men who had bad experiences with men prior to coming out, largely because it tends to overlap with those who found a comfortable half-step in something like a radical feminist group. But this sets up Dragona pretty well for a realistic other side of the coin to that. Your experiences with bullying might make you a little skittish of girls your age, you keep a foot in this criminal world even if we keep showing you (not unlike Okiku) as someone who doesn't fit super well, all this would certainly explain why you'd gravitate towards a figure like Meryl Mei. Why there's great potential for drama if she shows a nastier side. It's all great for a trans story that justifies still figuring yourself out through it...but sticks to a fairly realistic path for a lot of young women who find themselves running with gangs.
All that said, Jodio you absolute freak. Burning the whole bus is metal, it's scruffy, he's protecting family. Doooooope. These two are fantastic and I can't wait to explore their story, their dynamic more. Jodio & Dragona's sibling bond is the beating heart of this part. As much as I love Kiku/Izo & Killua/Alluka yeah this is gonna be a banger. Speaking of, this chapter was also the second time we nudged at Jodio getting shit for looking fey too. These two are ride or die for each other and their awesome mom Barbara Ann. How this all ties into their family falling apart and their desire to become filthy rich? No need to ask...

In lighter news. They. When Meryl learns of the other lava rock that got smashed. We're all clear on who's the brains and who's the firepower in the dynamic duo right? I trust Meryl as far as I can throw her and she's a big lady. But for now everything seems on the up-and-up. Charmingman seems to have passed the sniff test and yeah it looks like he's just going to hang around. I like this new setup. Scouting a shadowy company to see if we can get more lava rock.
All in all one of the best chapters of Jojolands so far. I'm loving it, this is the exact direction I hoped it'd go. The backstory made this pretty heavy and I hope we can have more fun with this gang on the new excursion.

You’d think it was deadly for a human to run this hot. Maybe it was and maybe you’d drop dead from embarrassment if this would continue, who was to say?
The day had started any other way it had for the last few months. A lone desert horizon staring back at you as your little caravan traveled to a nearby city to take refuge before nightfall hit. Boredom hung over your head like a cloud of dust, so you began to look sound in the small enclosure. The van was high-strung with bated breath, the tension a cough away from popping poor Meryl’s temper. If you hadn’t been so terrified of the feisty woman, you could’ve snorted at the red vein barely visible on her cheek from your backseat angle. Desperate to find something else to focus on, your eyes drifted to Milly in the passenger seat blissfully unaware of the situation. You flashed her a smile when your eyes met in the mirror and she happily returned it before spacing off again on who knows what.
Now here came the hard part.
It was a wonder the silence had managed to dwell so long with the noisy blond and priest sitting beside you. Perhaps the two brain cells the three of you seldom shared–one of which you held on to the longest and the other bounced between the males– sparked together and formed a quiet game of who could outlast Meryl’s rage the longest. Nevertheless, your confidence held strong as you looked to cast a glance at Wolfwood in the opposite window seat. He was turned fully to the window, wispy stripes of dark hair obscuring most of his profile and hand holding up his chin. Thinking you were in the clear of not breaking into laughter looking at him you flicked your gaze onto the window.
Oh no. The two of you had formulated the same idea and were now staring at one another’s blank-faced reflection in the window. The dark tan of his skin pinched together and furrowed at the crease of his nose, clearly taken aback by the reflection as he struggled to re-straighten his face. You quickly turned your head as conspicuously as you could and placed your forehead on the warmed glass. A hearty smile had slipped its way across your face, what a goofball. It was embarrassing how attached you had gotten to everyone in such an objectively short time. Even with the scoldings included, you never once lost any amount of love for any of your friends. There was nothing you would trade for moments like this, despite having grated on Meryl’s nerves the entire morning before now. But to be fair, it was a bit of her fault as well for carrying a humanoid typhoon across No Man’s Land for this long. Insurance company be damned if you were in her place, the amount of times you’ve almost gotten stitched up would’ve put you into early retirement long ago.
….Speaking of the Humanoid typhoon,
Snapping out of your pondering state, you came to realize the silence had strangely returned. You glanced to your left, trying to spare a peek at your agitated driver to see if she was still ill-tempered. You got you answer with haste as her eyes raced to meet your curious ones peering at her through the side mirrors of the vehicle. It was like the devil himself snagged your heart out of your chest as your eyes spasmed trying to grasp at anything else within your range of view. How was someone barely up to your shoulder so scary?? The peeling leather of her seat is what dragged you back away from her wrathful glare, and even then you could’ve sworn the heat from it dug a hole through the sweat of your brow. Maybe it would be best if you didn’t follow your mind’s wonderings and left Vash in the back of your head. Yet as the harsh red of his mangy jacket appeared for a split second in your peripherals, you knew you were a goner. To make things worse, a subtle scraping made itself known alongside the white noise of the van. It was dull and flaky, not unlike the scratching of… a paint brush? Your noise scrunched up in thought as you looked for the source. Milly met you halfway when turning to her, casting a copy of your pensiveness right back as she peek over her shoulder. A honeyed eyebrow rose in a silent question before her gaze shifted up.
A loud clap sent a jolt through the backseat riders up and into a state of alert as Milly slapped a single hand over her mouth. Your own eyebrows kissed the beginnings of your hairline as you reared back in your seat a bit, slowly ascending your head to what she was turning an alarming shade of red at. On the way, you made eye contact again with the equally wired priest across from you. Only briefly sparring a single glance, you both looked up.
You don’t know whether it was due to the unbearable lack of entertainment or if it was just that funny, but only the lord knows how hard of a cacophonous laugh erupted from you either way. Poor, poor tall and lanky Vash sat stiff as a board between Wolfwood and you, caked in soot from the disaster the group had just come from. Wherever the dark graininess hadn’t settled, a brilliant red matching his iconic coat painted his sun-kissed skin. And his hair, the bristled blond strands smushed and sprang outwards, creating the illusion of an angry red pineapple as he slightly swished back and forth with the swaying of the van. Vash looked to be struggling more than you and the priest had–seeing as he had to stare at his reflection through the rearview mirror the entire time since you all had. However, all hell had broke loose upon your cracking up as Vash and Wolfwood burst into cackles and hollering. Tears poured out of all your eyes, soaking dried and dusty faces previously chapped from the heat. And if you had any sense left, you would’ve looked to see the expression on Meryl’s face beside the giggling Milly. Unfortunately, you didn’t get the chance and had to live on without knowing the exasperated smile inching across her face.

"Why am I the only one in trouble?!" You found yourself wailing into the dark night as you trudged to the bar. "They laughed too Meryl!"
The woman's stride never paused as she walked in front of you with her back straight. Meryl scoffed back at you and dished out a single glance, "But who laughed first?"
"But-"
"Besides! We need someone sober enough to find the motel, and that will surely not be me after the little stunt you guys pulled in the last town!” She huffed a piece of her dark fringe away from her eyes and took a sharp turn, “I pray they weren’t set up with the company’s insurance plan, if so, this might be the last drinking session we can afford.”
You’d have to admit even though she was joking, you felt a little bad for Meryl. Maybe thats why for the rest of the way to the bar, you quietly sulked in front of the batch of traitors behind you. The two bubbly blondes and sleek priest were quiet as mice up until you all entered the bar– trying to camouflage into the darkness to avoid getting a ban on their drinking as well. Yet as soon as you all set foot in the bar, all four of your comrades hauled themselves to the bar and sparked the whole atmosphere of the room.
It was endearing in a way, even though you were a bit bitter you couldn’t be drunkenly stumbling over your words as you chatted the night away. But also if you had, you wouldn’t have been able to be fully enamored by a blond “maniac” who had managed to convince an equally drunk patron to dance with him on a table. You brought the back of your hand to your mouth and stifled the laugh building up in fear of being dragged up while sober enough to remember it happening.
However, all was in vain as you met a pair of teal downturned eyes looking straight at you. Vash was clearly plastered, but somehow managed to start working his way to you without stumbling out of his boots. His laughter made your brain work overtime to keep up with your heart running like a bat out of hell. You were certain that someone could hear the noise as you frantically darted your eyes around to divert your attention away from Vash. The drunken man was not even a foot away from you when he tripped on his way to you. And you could swear for a split second, a brown pair of dress shoes was the object in question. The blonde, dazed and confused, limply fell forward and clung to you tightly. You could’ve died at that single moment.
He was warm, and not in the way the sands were. It was such a comforting warmth that your mind blanked when he had wrapped his arms around you. The noise from the bar faded into a dull hum as Vash fully engulfed your senses. His right arm slightly twitches around you, as if trying to pull you impossibly closer. A rhythmic thumping pulsed inside your chest, and you prayed that he wouldn’t be able to feel it through layers of clothes and burning skin. Your breath hitched as he grazed the side of your neck, slowly moving up and stopping just below your ear. You were sick with anticipation and he slowly opened his eyes to look at you before speaking,
.
.
“I really have to use the bathroom.”
Dear lord.
So here you were, holding up a blazing hot Vash who was thoughly struggling to find the ground beneath him. You tried not to look at him too long–you fear if you did you’d let him fall in the chilled sand after the stunt he’d pulled earlier. Your face was still scorched with the heat of embarrassment that should’ve been drunkenness. Nevertheless, you trudged forward and led the train of dazed insurance company workers, a buzzed priest, and a totaled outlaw. It seemed everyone lucked out since the walk wasn’t long at all, the rickety building coming up just short of 3 minutes away.
You reered your head around to shout the news, earning disgruntled groans and a half-hearted cheer from Milly. Old and tired wooden boards wailed underneath yours and Vash’s feet as you both stepped up at the same time. He losely threw his right arm out to reach the door handle, and even though he missed it by a wide mark, you appreciated the effort. Soft lights brighten and illuminate the small motel lobby as you all piled in. The front desk attendee was a pleasantly aged woman, gray wisps spiraling from under her hat and kissing the faint wrinkles of her forehead. You gave an exasperated smile as you lugged Vash forward, “Reservation for Stryfe?”
“Stryfe you say? Okay my dear, let me just look and see-” She leaned forward a bit towards the registry booklet, “Ah! There it is, let me get your keys sweetheart.”
You nodded as you felt a slight tug on your sleeve, glancing upwards you come face to face with a teary-eyed pout. A single brow of yours hitches up, signaling him to continue with whatever he was trying to get at.
“...I need to use the bathroom again.”
“You just went!”
“Please!!” The lanky man twisted you around the best he could, “You don’t want my bladder to explode do you??”
You bit your tongue to not mutter a yes and send the blonde into a crying fit, instead slamming your hand over the first key you saw presented. With a labored huff you turned to Milly, currently the least drunk of the trio bracing themselves against the wall, “Mills, you think you can manage getting you three to your rooms while I’m gone?”
To which she reply with a lazy salute and a “You can count on me!” before grabbing two other keys and darting off with Meryl and Wolfwood draped on her shoulders. What a sweet girl.
And now to deal with your not-so-sweet outlaw that you hurriedly pull to the room where he would be staying. You’d nearly dropped and lost the key in hand when he dramatically clutched his stomach and shouted in the long hallway. Scared out of your skin, you turn to him in fear he actually wasn’t playing with you earlier about the bladder situation; but were met with a sly smile at the shocked expression displayed on your face. You huffed and tugged at him again, trying not to indulge in his antics. Undeterred, he let out another shrill yell as you dragged him closer to his room,
“HELP, HELP! It’s Vash the Sta-mmph!”
You slap a swift hand over his mouth and shove him into the newly opened door, locking it behind you. Red-faced, you shoot a dead glare at the spindly man currently splayed out in front of you. Vash’s lips twist into a playful wobbly smile as he stares up at you, only to shapely point downwards when you point to the bathroom door. His eyebrows crease his sunburnt skin in a sad attempt to imitate a kicked puppy–yet he relents and gives up when a vein makes itself present on your temple. Well after he’s settled into the bathroom, you lean against the wall to catch your breath for a brief second. How in the world was he this hopeless? You’d have to give it to him despite how agitated you were at his earlier stunt, his hopelessness was endearing in a way. A tired hand swiped the sweat from your brow as you flush faintly, god he would be the death of you. A muffled thunk from the other side of the bathroom door rips you from pondering about the culprit at hand. Hopefully Vash would be competent enough to figure out how to survive on his own until daybreak. You push off the wall and leave the room, starting off back down the hall to claim your room key so you can finally retire to bed.
The walk was ten times short without dragging drunken extra luggage on your shoulder throughout the halls. You stop at the front desk, which was now missing the woman attending it just a few minutes ago. It was eerily silent in the lobby, with no one being up and lounging about the area. At a sudden creak, your head swivels to a door not far away from the desk. Seemingly oblivious to your figure standing awkwardly behind the table, the young man glides to a drawer obscured front desk. He pulls out a booklet resembling the registration sheet the kind woman had checked form. The new attendee acknowledges your existence with a sparring glance,
“Name?”
The suddeness of his statement was enough to spike your nerves, “Ah! Oh, registration for Stryfe please! I’m here to pick up the fourth key?”
His eyes narrowed for a split second, “Four? There’s only three in the registry for Stryfe.”
“What?? Surely there must’ve been a mistake, there’s five of us with two sharing a room!” You mentally made a note to hide Meryl’s handover medicine if what the attendee said was true, that you would have to bunk with a clingy blond for the night. The man behind the counter just sighed tiredly at you,
“I’m sorry, but we don’t have any more openings left for the night. You’d have to sleep in one of the other reserved rooms.”
Your ears burned with embarrassment, “Can you at least tell me the other two room numbers?” Maybe you could bribe Wolfwood with the promise of another pack of cigarettes in exchange for a room to yourself.
Unfortunately, the attendee had made it his momentary pleasure to crush your pipe-dreaming. He slowly blinked at you, “Are you Meryl Stryfe?”
“...No?”
“Then I am sorry, we cannot disclose room patrons without consent of the booker themselves. Have a nice night.”
“You’ve gotta be joking me.”
“Not paid enough to do so, unfortunately.” He looked a good decade older as he muttered the statement to you through gritted teeth, “Have a nice night.”
And with that, your one-sided argument came to a close as you had no choice but to secede. In all honesty, you could pass out in the hallway and call it a day with all the walking going on. You wish you knew why this felt so nerve racking, he was your friend and the same went for you—or at least you hoped. Yet, the blonde had such a baffling way of turning your whole world upside down without even trying. It intimidated you just as much as it made your heart flutter. He was so breathtaking, enough to piss you off in a jealous haze if you weren’t his friend. You were set in stone on this revelation, and nothing would be able to shake that away from your perception of Vash. The door knob contrasts your warm palms as you open the frigid door.
Upon opening it, the world seems to instantaneously freeze when you come face to face with a half-dressed outlaw. You didn’t even have time to truly process his reaction, and dignity be damned at this point. Your eyes nailed themselves to Vash’s torso like they were meant to be there; and if you were actually cognitive, you would’ve chastised yourself for staring so shamelessly. But in all honesty, could you be blamed for looking?
Yes, you were hurt by the mangled skin of his body with pink skin coating the sunny canvas of his chest. And yes, you knew somewhere in the back of your mind you would shed tears for every one of them you hadn’t saw happen admits your journey together. But dear lord above, was he ethereal. The lankiness you normally associated with him was heavily disproven from what you could clearly see now. He was sturdily built—even with his arms frozen in a pose reaching for his backpack— and astonishingly lean. There were so many words you wished to say, to voice your unconscious fawning over him. You opened your mouth slowly and dazed,
“Vash, yo-”
“DON’T LOOK DON’T LOOK!” He shrieked out, arms flying up to cover anything they could.
Your hands sounded like gunshots as they collided against your eyes. Stupid, stupid! Everything that had echoed dully in your brain crashed together in a cacophonous tragedy as you came to your senses. And by the sounds of it, Vash found himself in the same predicament. Audible thrashes and shrill “eeks!” were the only way you could tell he still remained in the room. He quieted down a bit as he rummaged through his bag—for a shirt you predicted. There was no doubt in your mind he was sober from your shared mental breakdown, albeit one was far more vocal than the other. You felt ashamed in your actions, and were no better than a peeping Tom!
You scrambled to make an apology, something to atone for the embarrassing act you just committed against him. But before you could, he beat you to it.
“…I’m sorry you had to see that, I really am, it’s not a pretty sight and I’m sorry you-”
“That wasn’t what I was thinking at all,” You exhaled. “I was thinking about how pretty you were… in the…moonlight?”
It came out as a doubting question but the words you spoke couldn’t be any truer. Vash was extremely beautiful, far more than your words could ever tell.
…Meanwhile, he looked at you like you had just shot him in the foot at point blank range. His cheeks were a hazy flush and his eyes darted around your face crazily, looking at every single feature sitting upon it. You slightly shrunk under his intense surveying, a bit confused on what he was doing.
“Sooo, are you gonna say som-”
“YOU LOOK PRETTY TOO!” He jumped to cut you off and leaned forward a bit to accentuate his profession. The blush sitting on his cheeks flowed bashfully to his neck and chest—at least what wasn’t covered by his loose shirt— as he shifted nervously. “In the moonlight as well, I mean.” A cheeky smirk appeared after he spoke, as if he hadn’t fumbled as hard as you did.
What a tease.
“Is that why you were looking at me so hard? You liked what you saw as much as I did, hm?” You leaned forward a bit, mirroring his anxious actions.
“What’s not to like?” Vash’s smirk turned into a charming smile, “Women all across town would want a chance to get with the Humanoid Typhoon, you know!”
“Oh I know alright.” You roll your eyes in exasperation, “So what about me, I got a chance with Vash the Stampede?”
His face blew up in a furious blush again at your teasing tone, you got him. A snickered laugh bubbled from your chest as he tried to come up with something else so that he could win.
You can believe you were nervous to bunk with him for the night, did you seriously forget who he is? The laughter smothered all the attempts he made to make a jab at you, but you couldn’t focus on them anyway. Everything in your mind at the moment was swarming with him instead. Of his genuine laugh, of his jokes, of his lanky arms throwing themselves around you to give you a hug. Memories, thoughts, and words unspoken you always wanted to say just made you giggle all the more at him for just being. With all your heart, you wished he would have the same thoughts as you at least once.
And yet, if you weren’t so oblivious maybe you would’ve seen it.
Another lovestruck fool looking longingly at the one they fell head over heels for.

It’s God’s Will [Vash X Reader][3/3]
Tumblr media
Word Count: ~4.6k Description: The gang wakes up after a night of celebration. Problem is no one remembers the night and there might have been a wedding? A/N: search history now has ‘wikihow marriage license’ in it cause I don’t exactly know how that works and I’m banking on your guys don’t either lmao. This is written for entertainment value not accuracy anyway. [Part1] [Part 2]
Tumblr media
It was another few hours before a doctor came into the room, “Is Y/N here?”
“Yes?” you answered as everyone got up from their seats.
“Can I speak to you privately?” the doctor asked.
“Hey, are you going to tell us if Vash is ok or not?” Meryl interrupted.
“He’s fine, I just need to go over some things with Y/N,” The doctor replied before turning to you, “Follow me.”
You looked back at Meryl and Wolfwood, shrugging as you left the room. You followed the doctor through several hallways. You hoped she was taking you to Vash but was confused on why just you specifically. You doubt Vash would make that request, all of you were friends.
The doctor stopped at a random door and turned to you, “I had to speak with you privately since you’re the spouse—”
“Wait, what?” You interrupted, not believing what you just heard.
“The records say you are married to Mr. Vash,” the doctor said, confused.
“No no no no, there’s got to be some kind of mistake,” you said, waving your hands, “No one even remembers the wedding cause we were all blackout drunk.”
“Well, you seem to remember it and there are official papers stating so. You’ll have to talk to town hall about it if it is indeed untrue,” The doctor continued, “Regardless, let’s get back to Vash. He's stable and resting at the moment, however, we want to keep him here overnight to make sure everything is okay. Are you alright with that?”
“Yes, of course,” you almost couldn’t pay attention as you tried to figure out how your marriage was officiated.
“Do you wish to see him?” the doctor asked.
You nodded as she opened the door for you. The room was bare, just a bed, chair, and nightstand. A radio played music softly and Vash’s coat and glasses were neatly folded and set on the chair.
You walked over to the bed where Vash slept; the color on his face was still off. You knelt down, holding his prosthetic hand as you watched him slowly inhale and exhale. Your panic from earlier melted away as your brain accepted Vash was okay.
You couldn’t stay forever though, so you got up and kissed Vash’s beauty mark. You immediately felt stupid for doing that and quickly made your leave. Thankfully, you had a good sense of direction as you made it back to the waiting room Meryl and Wolfwood were in.
“They’re going to keep Vash overnight to make sure everything is good,”  you said, “You should be able to visit him. He’s in room 103.”
“What about you?” Meryl asked.
“I need to run an errand, I’ll be right back,” you smiled reassuringly before heading out, “Okay, bye!”
You heard Wolfwood yelling back something but you were already out the door. It wasn’t yet dusk as you hoped town hall was still open. Taking a right, you briskly walked to the center of town.
The town hall was one of the oldest buildings. It was mostly made from stone and bricks with metal additions that were added through the years. You walked up the steps and tried the door. It opened and you entered the lobby. A receptionist looked up from his papers, “How can I help you?”
You walked over to the desk, “Um, I need to check and possibly update my marital records?” you didn’t know how to word the question with such a bizarre situation.
“You’ll need to speak with Ms. Moore. She’s the first office to the left, down that hall,” he pointed and then returned to his paperwork.
“Thanks,” you replied, heading down the hallway.
You found the door with Ms. Moore’s name and knocked.
“Come in!” a cheery voice answered.
You opened the door to find Ms. Moore, a younger woman with her hair tied up in a bun. She was surrounded by file cabinets with pills of files filling up her desk.
“Hello, take a seat, I’m Ms. Moore,” she greeted, moving a stack of files off her desk to the floor next to her, “I’m the familial and martial records archivist. How can I help you today?”
You sat down on the only chair that wasn’t covered in files, “I was at the hospital earlier and they said I’m married.”
“Okay, are you not?” She asked.
You sighed, your head dropping as you realized you were going to have to explain it to her, “A week or so ago my friends and I got blackout drunk and one of them decided to take it upon themself to get me and another friend married. I thought the person who performed the marriage wasn’t an authorized officiant and no one remembered so I didn’t think it was officiated.”
“Interesting,” Moore said, “Can’t say I’ve had this situation before. Let’s check the records for a marriage license. What’s the last then first name?”
“It’s L/N,” you said as the archivist pulled out a drawer and started sifting through the files, “And my first is Y/N.”
“Okay,” Moore drew out as she double checked, “I’m not seeing anything under that, is there another name it could be?”
“I don’t remember the marriage license or signing anything, but,” you paused, hoping Wolfwood didn’t actually do this, “Try Stampede.”
“Stampede, now I remember that,” Moore spun in her chair to another cabinet, “I thought it was an odd last name. Oh, here it is.”
She pulled out a file and put it on her desk, opening it up.
“Okay, here’s your marriage license and it says here your legal name is now Y/N the Stampede,” Moore said.
You facepalmed; you were going to kill Wolfwood when you saw him again. You dragged your hand down your face as you looked at the license Ms. Moore was showing you. There it was, your messy signature along with Vash’s.
“This Nicholas D. Wolfwood, he’s the officiant and the person who decided to get you and Vash married?” the archivist asked.
You sighed, “Yeah, didn’t realize he was authorized.”
“Do you wish to null the marriage?”
You stopped yourself from saying no, “Y-yes. Yes,” Vash doesn’t know, it isn’t fair to him.
“Well, to do that you’ll need to either have your spouse also agree to a divorce or have Mr. Wolfwood nullify it since both of you were intoxicated.”
Great, now you had to pick between a hard place and a rock. You knew your chances with Wolfwood were slim but you definitely didn’t want to tell Vash, especially since he’s still recovering.
“Lovely,” you got up from your seat, “Thanks for the help.”
“You’re welcome, I hope you figure everything out,” Moore replied.
You left town hall feeling drained already. The sun was finally setting as you made your way back to the hospital. You’ve decided to fight Wolfwood tomorrow about the whole marriage thing. You just wanted to be by Vash’s side now.
The hospital was quiet as you walked to Vash’s room. Most of the lights were shut off leaving you with just enough light to see your way through the hallways. You successfully managed your way to room 103 and carefully opened the door so you didn’t wake Vash.
Meryl and Wolfwood turned to you. Vash’s coat and glasses have been moved to the nightstand as Meryl sat in the chair. Wolfwood leaned with his cross on the wall across from Vash.
“Where did you go?” Meryl asked, keeping her voice low.
You didn’t have the energy to reply so you just shook your head and walked over to Vash. He was now lightly snoring which you took as a good sign.
“Let’s go, Meryl,” Wolfwood said, grabbing his cross and walking to the door, “Give Y/N some alone time with Vash.”
You turned to the undertaker about to retort but he just winked at you and left. Meryl got up from her chair.
“What’s in the box?” Meryl asked.
You slowly looked over at her, “None of your business.”
Meryl looked at you suspiciously but didn’t respond, following Wolfwood. When the door shut, you sighed and pulled the chair up to Vash’s bed. You less than gracefully fell into the chair and set your head on the bed, looking at Vash’s sleeping form. At some point, you fell asleep.
Your back ached as you slowly woke up. You could have sworn you felt someone running their hand through your hair but as soon as you shifted and started stretching out the feeling was gone. You tried to stretch your arms out but were blocked. You opened your eyes to see Vash sitting up in bed looking down at you.
“Morning,” he grinned.
“Mmmm,” you grunted as you sat up, “How are you feeling?”
“Better now,” Vash gave you a thumbs-up, “I hope I didn’t scare you too much.”
“Only the normal amount,” you yawned, covering your mouth as you did so.
A knock sounded on the door and a nurse peaked in, “Oh Mr. Vash, you’re awake. Do you mind if we do a few tests to make sure you’re all set to leave?”
“I don’t mind,” Vash replied as the nurse entered the room.
In the hallway, you saw Wolfwood and you remembered how he changed your last name. Gritting your teeth, you got up and stormed out of the room, wanting to get this over with.
“Oh hey, you look happy to see me,” Wolfwood smirked.
You grabbed his collar and shoved him against the wall, “I’ve about had it with your shit.”
“My shit? I’ve hardly done anything for this amount of aggression,” Wolfwood replied coyly, “Unless there’s something you want to tell me?”
You looked side to side to see some people staring and eavesdropping. You let go of Wolfwood’s shirt and stepped back.
“Let’s go somewhere more private,” you said, walking down the hall.
Wolfwood shrugged and followed after, grabbing his cross.
You found a dead-end alleyway behind the hospital. kicking at the trash on the ground, you turned to the undertaker. He set his cross against a wall and pulled out a cig, lighting it and sticking it into his mouth.
“So, what do you want to talk about?” He said, blowing smoke into your face.
Your nose crinkled as you swatted away the smoke and plucked the cig from his mouth. You dropped it on the ground and stomped on it.
“I don’t believe you when you say you don’t remember what happened that night,” you declared.
“The feeling’s mutual,” Wolfwood replied, “You’ve been acting weird since that night. Now I might not remember what happened but it seems like you do and it has something to do with me.”
You stared at him for a moment, you really, really didn’t want to tell him what happened but you’ve made your bed, now you must lay in it.
“You,” you jabbed your finger on Wolfwood’s chest, hoping aggression would be a better persuader than straight-up begging, “somehow orchestrated a marriage between Vash and I, and now my legal name is Y/N the Stampede.”
Wolfwood stared at you in disbelief before he started laughing hysterically. You crossed your arms as he choked on his spit, still laughing.
“Laugh it up, asshole,” you deadpanned, if you weren’t so embarrassed by the whole ordeal you would probably find it as funny as the undertaker.
Wolfwood wheezed as he had trouble breathing properly, his hands on his knees. He brushed away the tears forming around his eyes as he straightened.
“You’re telling me, there was a whole ass wedding and no one remembers but you,” he said, coughing as he went into another laughing fit.
“Yes, and the only person who can nullify it is the officiant, which apparently is you,” you replied.
Wolfwood stopped laughing, “Wait, you want me to nullify the marriage?”
“Uh, yeah,” you said, “No one remembers and we were all drunk. That’s not a real wedding.”
“Sorry, it must have been God’s will,” Wolfwood lit another cigarette, blowing out smoke before continuing, “Besides, don’t you like Needle-noggin anyway?”
You felt the blush creep up from your neck to your ears. You opted to stare at an interesting piece of garbage on the ground as Wolfwood waited for an answer.
“Exactly,” he said, your silence confirming everything, “That’s why I won’t nullify it. If you want a divorce you’ll have to tell Vash yourself.”
“You are a fucking asshole, Wolfwood,” you mumbled, your hands curling into fists at your side.
“Tell me something,” Wolfwood ignored your comment, “Do you have those rings in that fancy little box of yours?”
“Are you going to tell Meryl?” you asked in return.
“Nah, even though she totally tried getting into it last night,” Wolfwood replied.
You never could quite believe him but you knew sooner or later it will spill either by your or someone else’s doing, “Yes, the rings are in the box. Along with all the photos.”
Wolfwood chuckled before getting serious again, “You need to tell Needle-noggin. Soon, it’s not very fair to hide this from him, don’t ya think?”
“And it's not very fair to marry two intoxicated people but here we are,” you scoffed.
Wolfwood ignored you and grabbed his cross, walking back into the hospital, leaving you to your thoughts.
You don’t remember how long you stayed out there but eventually, you went back to Vash’s hospital room and helped him check out with Wolfwood. All three of you returned to your temporary house. Meryl had gone shopping for some groceries so the group can make some dinner while Vash recovers. She and Wolfwood were preparing dinner as you sat on the porch staircase, looking out to the endless sands.
You didn’t feel like talking to anyone or doing much of anything since your conversation with Wolfwood. You were embarrassed by how you acted and are still acting. You knew you should have told everyone what happened that night instead of keeping a secret that slowly ate at you from the inside out. But you were always an anxious person and that anxiety makes you do some rash things. Or in this case not do things you really should.
You heard someone walk up behind you. You glanced over as Vash sat next to you on the steps. He gave you an easy smile and looked out at the desert with you. Most of his color was back but you could tell he was still a bit ill, moving more slowly and sleeping often.
“Are you alright?” he finally spoke, breaking the comfortable silence.
“No,” you answered honestly, not elaborating.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Vash asked.
“No,” you sighed, “But I’ll have to eventually.”
Vash leaned into you slightly for a second, giving you a soft smile, “I’ll wait until you’re ready then.”
You don’t know why, but you felt a weight being lifted from your shoulders with Vash’s words. Somehow you kept forgetting that Vash was the nicest person you know and that he’ll understand anything. You just didn’t want to ruin that.
“Thanks,” you smiled back.
“Lunch is ready!” Meryl called from the house.
You and Vash turn to the door before looking at each other. As Vash slowly got up, you rose, your hands hovering around him in case he lost his balance. He didn’t and you both entered the house and walked to the dining room. Meryl and Wolfwood were already seated at one side of the table, so you and Vash sat together.
Dinner was potatoes, bread, and some type of meat. Vash carefully picked at his food as Wolfwood stole a piece of meat from Meryl’s plate.
“Hey,” she protested, taking a piece of his potatoes as payback, “You got plenty on your plate.”
“Yeah, but you overcooked my steak,” Wolfwood replied.
“You cooked the steak genius,” Meryl retorted, dodging the undertaker’s attempts at more of her steak.
“Guys, c'mon let’s just eat off our own plates,” Vash interrupted, his voice coming out more tired than normal.
The two stopped but not before shoving at each other one last time. You just watched and ate, glancing over at Vash to make sure he was okay. You caught Wolfwood looking over at you and he quickly winked in return. You pressed your mouth into a thin line before going back to your plate, not wanting to give him a response.
“Hopefully that gang will leave us alone now,” Meryl said.
“They better after the hell I gave them,” Wolfwood replied and turned to Vash, “I didn’t kill anyone so be grateful.”
Vash chuckled, “Yeah, thanks,” he paused for a second before speaking again, “I think I’m going to retire. Night, all.”
“Night,” you all chimed as he got up and walked to his room, shutting the door.
You looked back down at your plate and continued eating. When you didn’t hear the others doing the same you looked back up. Meryl and Wolfwood were staring at you, Meryl with a determined look while Wolfwood shrugged at you like he was forced to do something.
“Wha—” you started before Meryl brushed her plate to the side and placed the box on the table. It had been noticeably chipped at.
“What’s in the box?” Meryl asked.
You stilled, glancing over at Wolfwood for any help. He just subtly shook his head.
“None of your business,” you turned back to Meryl.
“I’m not taking that answer anymore. You’ve been acting weird since that night we all got blackout drunk and as a reporter, it's my job to find out what happened,” Meryl said.
“You’re not reporting that night in the papers so what does it matter?” you asked.
“So you do know what happened?” Meryl pressed, she was standing and leaning over the table now.
“I never said that,” You retorted, crossing your arms and leaning back in your seat as you tried to give an air of confidence.
“You’re hiding something and it's in this box, I know it.”
“Well, it looks like you had trouble getting into it. You know it's rude to take people’s things,” you said.
“Why are you so desperate to keep it a secret?”
“Does it have to do with Vash?” Wolfwood decided to join in.
You scowled at him as he smirked at you. Sure he wasn’t going to tell Meryl but you guess that doesn’t mean he won’t help her. Meryl watched both of you before turning back to you, waiting for an answer.
You sighed, the fight leaving you as your shoulders slumped. You were tired of being embarrassed and made fun of.
“It’s embarrassing,” you started, not looking at the two.
You heard Meryl slowly sit back down, catching your shift from defensive to defeated. Your crossed arms turned to holding yourself for comfort as you prepared to spill.
“First I would like to say this is all Wolfwood’s fault,” you started; if you were going down, you definitely were dragging him with you, “He stole Vash’s arm and sold it for a pair of rings. He, somehow, convinced Vash and I to get married and officiated it, even getting the fucking license and having us sign it.”
“Want to tell Meryl what your new name is,” Wolfwood prompted, apparently very proud of his “creation”.
“Y/N the Stampede,” you mumbled, turning away.
“What was that?” Meryl asked, having not heard you.
“Y/N the Stampede,” you said a little louder, blushing in embarrassment.
Meryl’s cheeks puffed out as she tried to hold in laughter and failed a second later. She slammed her hand on the table, already losing her breath. Wolfwood grinned with her. You just looked miserably at the pair as you waited for them to finish.
After a minute or so, Meryl suddenly looked confused, “Wait, how do you know about this Wolfwood?”
“Y/N told me this morning,” Wolfwood replied, “Trying to get me to nullify the marriage so she didn’t have to tell Vash.”
“What?” Meryl before she turned back to you, “Vash doesn’t know?”
“Of course not, everyone got blackout drunk. I thought it was a dream before I saw the photos.” you replied.
“What photos?” Meryl replied, “You said most weren’t viable.”
You rolled your eyes and took off your boot, grabbing the key and throwing it across the table to Meryl, “I lied.”
She took the key and immediately opened the box, going through all the photos, “Oh my god.”
You put your boot back on as she continued to go through the box. She reached the end of the photos and pulled out the string that held the rings. Wolfwood and Meryl analyzed them for a few moments.
“Why haven’t you told Vash?” Meryl asked, putting everything back into the box.
“Mmmm,” you didn’t answer.
“Y/N,” Meryl pressed.
“I don’t want to ruin our friendship,” you answered.
“Why would that ruin your friendship?”
You were not liking this interrogation very much, “Cause I like him.”
“Awww,” Meryl cooed, “Well that’s just perfect you’re already married so you can skip over the dating part.”
“Meryl this is serious,” you warned.
“I know, but you have to admit it's kinda funny,” she said.
“Yes, I know,” you replied, “But since it’s still ongoing and I’m a part of it, it is not exactly funny to me at the moment.”
The table fell silent as Meryl processed everything she just learned and you sat uncomfortable, wanting to crawl into your bed and never leave. Wolfwood got up, grabbed his cross, and left to smoke outside for the evening. Meryl started taking the empty plates to wash and you got up to help clean off the table.
“I’m going to bed,” you said, grabbing the box and key.
You twisted the doorknob all the way and silently opened the door. You carefully shut it behind you as well and walked to the far end where your shared dresser was. You set the box and key on it before resting your hands next to it as you felt your energy drain from your body. You were already drained from your conversation with Wolfwood earlier and now that conversation with Meryl sapped you out of everything else. However, you did feel part of your self-imposed burden lift.
“Are Meryl and Wolfwood giving you a hard time?” Vash asked.
You snapped in his direction, “I thought you were asleep.”
You vaguely saw Vash shrug in the shadows, “You guys were a bit loud.”
“Oh,” you paused, “So you heard us…”
“Not enough to hear what was said,” Vash replied, watching you for a moment, “Is it about that thing you weren’t ready to talk about?”
You nodded, “Yeah.”
Vash didn’t say anything after as you leaned over the dresser still. After a few moments, you finally pushed yourself up and sat on your bed so you could take off your boots.
“Um,” you barely heard Vash as he spoke up again, “If you want, you could lay with me if that’ll make you feel better.”
You couldn’t see his face but you could tell he was nervous asking you. You wanted to question it but you wouldn’t pass on such a nice offer since it’d probably be ruined tomorrow when you tell him what happened.
You must haven’t answered soon enough cause Vash started backtracking, “That is, if you want—”
“Sure,” you interrupted before he could talk himself out of it, “That sounds nice actually.”
You heard him shift as you got up and walked over to his bed.
“It’ll probably be best if you climb over to the other side,” Vash said, in reference to his prosthetic arm.
“Okay,” you replied, carefully maneuvering yourself over Vash and dropping on the left side of the bed.
Once you were under the covers, you wrapped your arms around Vash’s waist and pulled yourself into his chest. Vash stiffed at first before relaxing and wrapping his arms around you, his chin resting on the top of your head. Vash’s fast heart rate eventually steadied as you both lay there. You took a deep breath, taking in Vash’s smell before slowly drifting off to sleep.
You were slow to wake as you felt a sense of deja vu sharing Vash’s bed. You both were still holding onto each other. Vash sturred awake as you leaned back to see his face. He smiled at you before yawning.
“Morning,” you whispered.
“Morning,” Vash replied then chuckled, “This feels familiar.”
You raised a brow at him as he smiled, nervously.
“At the hospital, you fell asleep with your head on the bed,” Vash explained..
The corners of your mouth lifted before you remembered the box and pulled away from Vash; his brows furrowed at your actions, “What’s wrong?”
“Remember when I said there’s something I would need to talk to you about?” you asked, holding your hands to your chest as Vash gently held your waist.
“Yes?” Vash answered.
You jerked your head in the direction of the box and key, “What’s in that box will tell you everything.”
Vash turned around and sat up, leaning over to grab the box and key before putting it on his lap. You rolled over, you didn’t want to see his reaction. You heard the box unlock and its hinge squeak as it was opened. Vash shifted through the photos and picked them up. You tensed up as you heard him make a eek noise while looking at the photos. He shuffled through more and lightly laughed at one. You finally heard the clinking noise of the rings as Vash bought them out of the box.
“I thought it was just a dream,” he said, which made you roll back over.
Vash looked down at you and smiled. Blush brushed his cheeks as he rubbed the back of his neck.
“Rem told me a little about marriages,” he paused, “I won’t mind trying it with you.”
You pushed yourself up, your eyes wide, “What? You like me that way?”
You had forced yourself to doubt Vash would like you that way, you felt like you couldn’t comprehend any other outcome. Now Vash was sitting next to you, saying he wouldn’t mind being married.
His face grew more red before he squeaked, “Yes.”
You grabbed Vash’s cheeks, bringing his face to yours, “Can I kiss you?”
He just smiled and connected his lips with yours. You both held the kiss for a few long moments, your hands moving to Vash’s shoulders. When it ended you looked into each other's eyes.
Vash then turned to the rings, “In that case…”
Your hands left his shoulders as he undid the string’s knot and dropped the rings into his hand. Vash gently grabbed your left hand and slipped on your ring. You followed suit and did the same. You both held each other's hands, looking at the rings.
“There’s something else I need to confess,” you said.
“Oh?” Vash replied.
“Remember that the morning after the party, when we woke up in the hotel room?” Vash nodded and you continued, “we were sleeping in the same bed.”
Vash put a hand on the back of his head, “Oh, I kinda figured.”
“Huh?” you exclaimed.
“I woke up before you then fell back asleep,” Vash explained, “I assumed you were embarrassed so I didn’t say anything.”
You shook your head, smiling, “And I thought I was the one trying to save you the embarrassment.”
You both chuckled before you spoke again, “Guess I’m going to have to live with the name Y/N the Stampede now.”
“What?!”

Trigun directly informs the character designs for Kekkai Sensen/Blood Blockade Battlefront
I’ve been thinking about a fun little meta for awhile about how much of the vibes and character style from Trigun translated over to Kekkai Sensen/Blood Blockade Battlefront.  Taking my brain off of hardcore Trigun for a bit let’s have some fun with Yasuhiro Nightow’s character design and how he likes to recycle and reform them.
Tumblr media
The Japanese DVD box set volume 3 shows my three favorite charas in a  Norman Rockwell The Saturday Evening Post parody.  Steven drives a car while Chain snacks and K.K. screams excitedly.
Tumblr media
The fact that the animation creative team went in this direction meant they were really having fun with the anime, but let’s dig into how Trigun translated more to Blood Blockade Battlefront.
Characters from Trigun and how they relate to Blood Blockade Battlefront
Vash the Stampede = K. K.
That’s right, our pacifist gunslinger is re imagined as the Bratatat Mom, code name K. K.
Tumblr media
The character design has the same red duster jacket with tight black clothing underneath.  K.K. even has some finger less gloves for her ease of operating either her sniper rifle or her handgun.  She can also use two handguns at the same time while fighting.  They are tall and lanky, have blonde hair and both can be bubbly at times to cover up how they are really feeling.  Vash’s unique sunglasses became an eye patch for K. K. and she will also cover her eyes with sunglasses to not attract attention to the right eye as well.  Unlike Vash, K.K. is willing to kill a target if necessary and has the most awesome husband ever and two sons.  I very much like her character and wish she were a more involved member of the B3 cast but by her nature, is a bit more of a loner but seen as quite powerful.  She is critical of the patriarchy and has a real axe to grind with Steven who is closest to her and still different from her; this is due to the fact that they are the two senior members of the team over thirty and made different choices in their personal/private lives.
Meryl Stryfe = Leonardo Watch
The very detail oriented and short fused insurance adjuster Meryl is now Leonardo a budding journalist who by sheer luck joins Libra. Considering that Meryl ended the manga as a reporter it makes sense for this to be Leo’s starting place.
Tumblr media
Both characters can be quick to snap out a remark of shock or annoyance, are the shortest adult member of the cast and have short dark hair.  Meryl’s hair was black with a purple undertone and so is Leo’s with more purple.  By B3 Back 2 Back, Leo’s hair picks up a more red tone which eventually translates into the anime adaption.  These characters frequently point out how absurd the events around them are while the rest of the cast calmly accepts things at face value.  Unlike Meryl in the manga, Leo is the reader’s entry point into the city and plays a role very similar to the anime version of her.  Like Vash, Leo is not the type of character to take a life and instead serves as support for the rest of the team early on in his time with Libra.  Both respect life and even though we know that Meryl has shot individuals in the manga and implied to have in the anime, she takes it very seriously and treats it with due respect.
Milly Thompson = Klaus V. Reinherz
The somewhat ditzy, honest and emotionally mature Milly is now seen in the character of Klaus; a true gentleman and total tank of a character.  Klaus towers over Leo, the same way as Milly is considerably taller than Meryl.
Tumblr media
Klaus, gives zero fucks what others think about him, has no bias based on gender, species, affiliation, race etc etc.  He’s one of the most genuine characters who could crush opponents and enjoys a fine cup of tea just like Milly.  They both have more casual looks with ties, suspenders/vest and dark pants.  At first, Klaus was a decent character in my opinion but as the anime progressed, he grew on me and grew on me until realizing that I really do like him and his well balanced approach to life.  He enjoys simple pleasures in life like taking the subway, playing chess and/or prosfair and watering all the plants at the Libra main office.  Klaus is always there to accept Leo and encourage him along the way.  He never takes his strength for granted and can’t say no to others.
Also like Milly, Klaus is emotionally mature and works to help others calm down in sticky situations or encourage them when stuck.  He is frequently paired with Leo who greatly respects him and learns from him.  He also does not appear to have a driver’s license meaning he either ends up in the same car as Leo or trying to fit himself on Leo’s small motorbike.
Nicholas D. Wolfwood = Chain Sumeragi
The amazing werewolf of Libra, Chain is the first version of Wolfwood in B3.  Her character design is female Wolfwood other than her black vs tan shoes.
Tumblr media
She occasionally has a small firearm, but was a terrible shot to not become an elite assassin and instead wanted to remain in intelligence.  Chain has the some of Wolfwood’s more juvenile pranks or remarks especially when Zapp is involved with her.  Chain is sarcastic, but it is targeted at one individual - Zapp Renfro and only Zapp.  It appears since Zapp and Leo are frequently together along with Zed, she’ll tease Leo a little but does not hurt him when she lands on him or sits on his head, instead only giving out pain to Zapp.  She has a high alcohol tolerance and will help out characters but doesn’t like for them to realize it at the time.  Like when Leo’s wallet got stolen from him in ‘Day In Day Out’ but she sticks it in his shirt collar as opposed to giving it back to him.  Chain is the sort of character who doesn’t want to be recognized and instead hang back and do things quietly.
Nicholas D. Wolfwood = Steven A. Starphase
The names alone show that these two characters are directly related.  Yet, Steven has a real middle name, Alan, as opposed to the D being whatever Yasuhiro Nightow felt it should be when interviewed in the moment.
Tumblr media
Early on in the first volume of the manga, Steven also goes without his characteristic yellow tie with a dark blue dress shirt making him look even more like Wolfwood.  They both frequently are shown with a hand or two in their pockets and can be quite charismatic and friendly.  They have foodie tastes and respect well prepared meals.  Both men also have to deal with darker situations which their partner[Vash]/boss [Klaus] would not deal with.  Wolfwood did not hesitate to kill opponents of Vash to prevent further damage while, Steven will make sure that certain problems disappear before they reach the rest of Libra.  One could say they move in the shadows, but Wolfwood is more of a character who deals with things directly, while Steven has the right person or party on speed dial.    Wolfwood worked within the system of the Eye of Michael making him somewhat legit while Steven is the direct contact to the HLPD, FBI, governmental bodies, and likely organizations that straddle grey areas.  The fact that Steven will go through proper channels indicates a greater respect for the rule of law and civil society only moving into shady areas when absolutely necessary.
Therefore, with the basic character design and personalities it is pretty logical that we get certain pairings to generate enjoyable dynamics.
Meryl & Milly - Leo & Klaus.  The small hardworking realist with a quick temper is teamed up with the honest, occasionally ditzy giant.  Neither character looks down on the other and they are able to learn about themselves and others through their interactions.  Without Leo, Klaus would be unable to seal Blood Breeds.  Without Klaus, Leo would not learn to accept his guilt and gain confidence in himself and helping others.  Leo frequently doesn’t see his own strength since it is through his relationships and not physical force like Klaus demonstrates.
Tumblr media
The size difference alone is exactly like Meryl and Milly here!  Leo is the one who is more than aware of what Zapp is planning to do quickly as events unfold but Klaus never even realizes that he’d been played by Zapp.  The two have genuine hearts and respect of all life (that isn’t trying to kill them at least).
Tumblr media
One color panel for the manga which really captures B3 well and how close Klaus and Leo are is the following.  They are likely relaxing or killing time at the office enjoying the quiet.  Leo and Klaus are playing video games while Sonic watches next to them.  Meanwhile, the Luddite that he is, Steven loosens his tie while reading the daily paper.
Tumblr media
Steven isn’t even paying attention to what they are doing. But Sonic is.  It is clear that Leo and Klaus are having fun and building on their relationship with each other.
Vash & Wolfwood = K.K. & Steven.  The two senior members of Libra frequently are teamed up together even though K.K. is annoyed by Steven (likely because he never lets her take time off to be with her family).  Steven frequently tries to play it cool with his calm demeanor while K. K. likes to tease him due to his rather academic approach to things ‘Dr. Steven-sensei’.  Despite their vocal bickering, the two work quite well together.
Tumblr media
In Trigun, it is Wolfwood who is annoyed that he’s assigned to deal with Vash.  In B3 it is K. K. who always scoffs at her partner Steven.  It sort of makes sense, Steven with his Esmeralda Blood Freeze is cold and calculating in his actions but frequently must get relatively close to his opponent.
Tumblr media
In contrast, K. K. literally shoots electrified bullets and will do support for Steven.  Their tension also likely comes from the fact that K. K. has a ‘typical’ family life with her husband and two sons to protect and take care of.  The opposite is the bachelor life of Steven in his lonely loft apartment with a great kitchen, stylish decor and no actual friends outside of work besides his housekeeper.  However, they are incredibly similar, angry at themselves for enjoying things in a brief instant related to their family or friends which ended poorly.
Wolfwood & Milly = Steven & Klaus
The Trigun anime really makes this a more important aspect of their character than the manga; Wolfwood and Milly work together more than once to help people out of a tight spot, think of the episode ‘Escape from Pain’ or the entire manga battle between Wolfwood and Midvalley when Milly steps in to help Wolfwood out.  However, the partnership between Steven & Klaus is much deeper than Wolfwood & Milly.  Klaus 100% trusts Steven to get all their ducks in a row and to make sure all of the logistics of Libra are working.  At the same time Steven understands the pressure that Klaus puts on himself and tries to lighten his load even if Klaus is oblivious to it.
The two play chess when Steven is first introduced and Klaus listens to Steven’s concerns about having Leo join Libra.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Leo is kidnapped, it is Steven who immediately is worried about Klaus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like how these two characters have such great rapport and trust between each other.  Steven comments on how Klaus made a joke, something he’d likely say with his quick wit and dry sense of humor.
Tumblr media
We seen in ‘Bloodline Fever’ that Steven completely trusts that Klaus will arrive on time to seal the Elder Blood Breed that he and K. K. only had to hold for four minutes.  It also shows that K. K. trusts Klaus as she was his escort to meet the Alterworld mafia don and based on her comments, she’s done this many times for Klaus.
Steven trusts that Klaus can hold out against the one vampire from the missing hospital long enough for Leo to determine his name and result in his sealing.
The fact that the two of them can communicate when all they need is a single quip from Steven in reply to Leo’s answer and demolish an opponent is incredible.
Tumblr media
What I find most refreshing about their relationship is that Steven, the older individual does not mind to be the second in command.  He’s a social enough person with ample skills to network and manage people effectively and does have more experience in the matter.  However, he also knows that he is not the right leader for Libra and finds purpose in his role on the team.  Klaus is too likely to be led on or lied to by others and Steven is streetwise enough to avoid or to use those people for their own benefit.  Klaus is the all to trusting Dad while Steven is the Mom making sure the kids don’t fight at dinner.
I also like the fact that when their main office needed security upgrades, the two of them accidentally invaded, Leo, Zapp (and Zed’s) sacred diner space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nothing like finding your bosses in your home away from home Leo!
Tumblr media
Honestly, I could go on about this for way longer but I’ll stop it here.  Klaus and Steven are great and I love them.
Wolfwood & Wolfwood = Chain & Zapp? & unrequited crush on Steven
The one character who I have a harder time pairing in a sort of Trigun fashion is Chain Sumeragi.  Even though she is female Wolfwood, the character who she has the most dynamics with is Zapp Renfro.  Which would make her a sort of positive Wolfwood traits meets all negative Wolfwood traits plus manwhore.  Zapp smokes, drinks, gambles and fucks as much as possible.  He has the vices that Wolfwood had (save for the sex) and definitely exists to be a foil with Leo, Zed and well, most of the cast.  Yes, she has a crush on Steven, but the man is absolutely out to lunch on the matter.  In the anime, he’s oblivious to the entire protocol to undilute Chain and how it relates to him.  Then again, if someone screamed and threw a chair at you resulting in injury, it would be hard to call that attraction or affection.  Terrifying would be the most accurate word.  I’ve only read the first two volumes of the manga in English and it is clear that she has eyes for him, but again, he gives off the vibes that work comes first.
Since Zapp hangs out with Leo frequently, Chain ends up in their mischief as well, wanting to help them out but seeming too cool for school.  I don’t know if the anime upped the petty fights between Chain and Zapp more, but it def has that enemies to friends (?) dynamic going on.  I’m curious to see how things unfold in the manga as I read it.
The fact that B3 Back 2 Back has the following covers seems to indicate a stronger Klaus & Steven, Chain & Zapp, and K. K. & Steven dynamics.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, there is only the B3 volume 10 cover where Chain and Steven are next to each other, but Steven’s back is to her.  It seems any potential Chain and Steven relationship is likely not in the cards.  In group covers, Steven and K. K. are next to each other most frequently based on their skills as a two person team.
All in all, I love how elements of Trigun made their way into B3.  It is fun to look at all the angles, from the physical character design, to their personalities and their relationships with each other.  I’ve been a fan of Trigun for over twenty years, so it is hard to say if B3 is better than it - but, I do appreciate the realistic adult relationships, doubts, fears and goals of it more so that Trigun.  The sitcom feel to B3 really feels relaxing and I enjoy the rambling stroll through the city with this quirky cast of characters.
With my disappointment in Stampede, I can at least laugh and cry at how the B3 anime and manga really capture the elements that made Trigun so likable to me in the first place.  And that is all I can ask for - another zany series with lovable characters that you can’t help but root for.

Trigun hyperfixation has an iron grip on me and I desperately need to get my head to think of something else. Especially cos I crave so much for good stories but to my suprise, a lot of (vashmeryl) fanfics I read are extremely samey, especially the post-anime ones.
That being said, while reading, I was actually suprised to see a few scenarios or themes never explored? So I thought, since I can't get my brain to focus anyways, might as well drop some vashmerly hcs and prompts.
the one I'm most suprised has not been explored at all is Meryl and Milly trying to teach Vash how to actually talk/flirt with women. I still dunno how Vash came to be known as a womamizer in the og anime cos he is abyssmal when it comes to flirting. So, after an especially embarassing rejection, Meryl picks a fight with Vash as usual and he's all like "yeah, then you show me how it's done." Not one to chicken out on a competition (and with avid encouragement by Milly) they set up a fake date. I can totally see it going really funny, Meryl trying her darn hardest to act like an actually interested date but can't help herself from cringing and and scoffing at how stupid Vash' approaches are. So basically, it would be a mix of silly flirting and a lot of bantering. By the end Meryl admits that he's not half bad if he just turns down the goofiness a bit, mentioning if he just ties up the night nicely he might even score a second date (she means in general, not realizing that it sounds like she's implying a date with her). Cue Vash doing the only smooth move in his life and stealing a goodnight kiss, asking "well, did it work?"
less of a prompt or headcanon, but in all the scar-centric fics Ive read, not once is it mentioned how Vash has a literal cage over his heart? Ive always loved this little design aspect, since it so obviously shows Vash fortifying his heart and keeping everyone out. I can also see Meryl being all smug like "well, im small and nimble, and the spaces between the bars are wide, I can easily slip through"
another funny thought about the metal grids on his body would be them cuddling but Meryl's hair gets caught on the metal and now they have to akwardly maneuver out of this situation
Meryl uses any and all situations to be taller than Vash. Since she is so much smaller than him, she usually stands when he sits, especially when they argue, tries to be just a few stairs above him or walks a few more steps up a slop so she can peer down on him. Not that her presence isn't big enough already, but she for sure tries her hardest to assert dominance.
To her dismay, Vash likes to use this moments to pick her up. I dunno why, but since Meryl is so small I can see Vash just enjoying it to pick her up and twirl her around. Lugging her around like a pretty looking sack of potatoes.
Vash is a human pretzel. He will contort his body in ways to hug as much of Meryl as possible.
Meryl becomes incredibly good at ignoring Vash if she needs to work. She could be sitting at her typewriter, only noticing Vash has her in a vice grip when Milly asks if she isn't distracted.
Despite how spiky it looks, Vash' hair is actually pretty soft and fluffy, and once Meryl finds out she uses any opportunity to run her fingers through it. Vash doesn't mind cos he totally digs the head scratches (humanoid typhoon? more like humanoid doggo)
when traveling together, they usually share a thomas cos Vash can't ride for shit. Vash likes to be dramatic and complain about it (cos he's a big boy thank you very much) but he can't deny that he wholly enjoys being cuddled up behind Meryl for hours on end.
Welp, just some food for thought cos my brain is in Trigun overdrive. These are specifically based on the 98 versions of them but I have a whole lot for Stampede as well haha
