I love that after treating Colin as less than an equal and trying to intimidate him prior to their parting of ways, Deli is clearly the one more affected by meeting again and seeing how Colin has comfortably moved on and found comradeship (or at least allyship) with Raphaniel. Like Colin was a little salty about the skald comments, but in that wonderfully understated "i care just enough to say something because you're wrong" way, a minor injury compared to how Deli is "thrown" by seeing Colin and Raphaniel fighting together

Graham has been Roberts' nemesis on the Geode since the 70s. Roberts enters every encounter swearing he'll put the old man in his place. He usually ends up apologising and assuring him that of course he'll ensure that the zailors stay off of his lawn in the future. He then spends the next several hours after the encounter kicking himself for it. He's personally repaired Graham's roof at least twice. He tried to suggest delegating this task to another officer, but was immediately insulted and told "not to faff about and get up on that ladder." Roberts was utterly furious after the fact that he actually did it.

what i appreciate about midnight motel is that it’s super fast paced, in a really engaging and hilarious way, but it’s also slipping out details about the characters in what feels like the slowest way possible.

the details get fed to us in tiny slithers, flashing unobtrusively up onto the screen in between the beats of the main story - and that makes the pacing of those reveals feel dissonant to the rest of the episode in a really cool way.

and it’s fascinating because it feels like they’re just leaking out small drips of information and then not talking about them again.

but because this is a dark comedy, it’s so hard to know how seriously to take it all - like, are these tiny bits of character story clues as to what’s actually going on? or should we just be taking it at face value, for the wild heightened reality it is?

we’re halfway through and there are all these tiny little plot threads that are appearing without being resolved - like who has pat’s money, what was up with that conversation between mote and doy about kat, who is the boss, what the fuck even happened to pat exactly. also why could tawi from not me track pat’s car, but not his PHONE? bitch, you don’t have find my friends on? also i have questions on literally everything involving sun and kat. so so many questions. also is mote really a teenager bc off jumpol is my age and i look youngish but “teen” is a stretch and like… off… off, my hetero husband, i swear i’m gonna save you from being cast as a teenager one day like i KNOW you’re talented but you don’t deserve to be teencoded like this like i’m gonna help i’m gonna get you out of here-

Hey! So all this talk about Remus being held accountable for his mistakes and flaws got me thinking.

It’s so true that James and Sirius are dealt most of the blame for pretty much everything people can put on them. One instance I’ve thought about this was the secret keeper business. Like yes it was Sirius’ idea so that’s justified (although I think people push it with how heavily they come at him) but they blame James just has heavily for going along with it but not Lily. Like I understand Sirius and Peter were primarily James’ friends but they make it seem like she had no say at all. That she was just a bystander in other peoples decision making about her and her sons life. They make it seem like he made all the decisions. She just sat back and let him be the “man” which is so sexist. Like they strip her of all of her personal agency so they can save her from blame and keep this saintly imagine they have of her. It’s like it’s impossible for her to do wrong (which is why I don’t like her very much. Fans have kinda ruined her for me.) It’s gets so annoying because it seems like everyone wants Sirius and James to suffer the consequences and be held for their choices and actions (and even of those around them) but not any of the people who surround them. If their buddies fuck up or part take in the fuck up with them it’s still just their fault. It is like what??

i hadn’t thought of it that way, i must admit (mostly bc i never thought the secret keeper plan was as bad as it’s made to be lol) but i’ve definitely seen this trend of fully minimising lily’s actions as well.

and i mean, it’s not like what we knew of her showed as being particularly meek ykno? why would she roll over and let james and sirius take decisions if she didn’t agree w them? also, she was good friends with sirius too, so that makes it even worse when she’s not taken into account. plus this is literally her child’s life and future in question—why would she not be involved? if u think the switch was a bad idea, the all three of them were at fault. (although fault is a really loaded term considering they were three kids in the middle of a war having to take very hard decisions)

i think it’s also another example of the subconscious ‘mature woman/man child’ tropes that we see all over the place. i hate it so much. it’s literally the most unimaginative, boring, done to death dynamic ever. but hey, lily was an untouchable saint even in canon right? mothers love and her sacrifice was considered the height of selflessness (personal pet peeve is when james dying for his family is overlooked) and i think this is another way in which the narrative justifying certain actions (more than others) has a strong effect on fandom portrayal tbh.

also hard agree on not liking her very much bc of the fandom. otherwise she’s pretty much a blank slate but again, fandom deification has turned me off her. i think she’s one character i struggle to write the most, actually. even remus comes easier. she also has the unfortunate distinction of being below j&s in the totem pole for me lol
