help i accidentally fell into a homestuck rabbit hole and got obsessed with trying to do god tier classpects for the cr characters. this...may end up becoming a proper au, we'll see.

I put, perhaps, way too much thought into this, but:

Vax as the Rogue of Doom

Vex as the Thief of Blood

Pike as the Knight of Hope

Grog as the Bard of Rage

Scanlan as the Heir of Light

Percy as the Prince of Time

Keyleth as the Maid of Breath

Tary as the Page of Heart.

Details/explanations below the cut!

For the lunar sway:

Prospit dreamers are optimists, extroverted, instinctive, creative, flexible, and ordered. They're honest, in the messy kind of way. Derse dreamers, on the other hand, are more pessimistic, introverted,, hiding behind masks, rebellious fighters, and calculating minds.

Grog and Keyleth are straight up Prospit; Vex and Percy are straight up Derse. Vax feels like he should be Derse, but ultimately, I think he's more Prospit, just, depressed. Tary I also put Prospit, because he's fairly open. Scanlan and Pike, I'm leaning towards Derse. Scanlan's plenty with the masks, but while Pike doesn't quite seem the fit, I think ultimately she's more Derse than you expect from a cleric of Sarenrae. She's got plenty in the way of masks, and she's hella rebellious.

My very rough idea of entry order (as a general chain, idk who I actually think would start) is:

Percy -> Vex -> Vax -> Scanlan -> Pike -> Grog -> Keyleth -> Tary

although I'm not super confident on Tary's place there (maybe Vex as server for him, but idk who I want to be his client if not Percy)

Vax: Rogue of Doom

Okay, so, starting off with the twins. These two are very easy to archetype, because they're both Outlaws first and foremost. I'll admit that Vax is the one I could see going the other way, specifically Knight, but I think at his truest heart, Vax steals. He's the rogue to Vex's thief because he's the more passive of the two (passive in the literal, as the less take-charge, but moreso in that he's selfless to her selfish).

Fate-touched, Champion of the Raven Queen, he's all about Destiny. There's some associations with Time, there (and, well, there's a Crow-Time thing, although I think that's more Dave than inherent) but ultimately, I think it works better for Doom - which, aside from the literal, is also rules, obligations, and destiny.

Rogues start off unable to accept their aspect, either from what they see as too much or not enough of it. Vax is reckless and more than a bit of a rulebreaker, always rushing in at the first. But Rogues come into their own. After all:

Vax literally stole Vex's doom from her.

Rogue of Doom is 100% the martyr class.

Vex: Thief of Blood

So, again, Vex is the thief because she's also an outlaw, and because she's the active. Selfish, in this case, is not a negative trait - it's that she does stuff for herself and not for others, more offensive than support.

Thieves are cocky, and they hide their insecurities, not letting anyone see. They hoard their aspects, and need to learn to let others have them.

Now, I was tempted to go Life as the inverse aspect for Doom; there's some stuff there. Life is associated with nature, and especially with wealth/luxury, so it's a very Vex aspect. However, while she's greedy, Vex doesn't want money. She wants status, she wants respect, and most of all...she wants her dad to like her.

Blood is the aspect of connections, bonds and friendship and, well, family. It's one of the 'leadership' aspects, which matches Vex as one of the more leaderly of the team. It's stubborn, so as she, but also charismatic.

We don't see Vex as an extremely jealous person, but I think it's there in part; and you can argue that as a thief of blood, she needs to let the connections go both ways, not just having people supporting her, but supporting them in turn.

(Also, like, there's a parallel to Sylas, as a vampire, being a literal blood-thief, and any time I can get Perc'ahlia to parallel Sylas/Delilah is a good day).

Pike: Knight of Hope

Pike as Hope is a pretty straightforward one; she's bright, shining, cheerful, and motivational. Life and Space also make sense, being a healer, but Pike in all her glowing divine glory is the epitome of a hero of Hope.

Archetypally, as a cleric, Pike should be a Fairy - Maid and Sylph, the two creation classes, that focus on healing, growth, and guidance. But, here's the thing: Pike's not actually the guide of the group, nor is she really their moral center. She's moral, sure, but I can't truly think of an instance where Pike changed them. That always felt more like Vax and Keyleth's purview. Pike was inspiring, but she wasn't guiding.

Instead, I think that Pike is a Warrior, or more specifically, a Servant. She's not here to show people what to do, she's here to help them with what they're doing. On the more passive side, I'm placing her as a Knight, which also just, fits, visually. Pike is, of all of them, the quite literal Knight in Shining Armor, fighting with Hope Manifest.

Knights are notable for hiding behind a shield/armor of a false identity. And, while Pike's upbeat, one of her major character moments is her crisis of faith. LoVM really exemplifies this - Pike is worried she's a shitty priest. And she's hiding this from the world and the rest of the group, because she doesn't want them to see her weak. But, of course, she's great at what she does - all knights are.

Grog: Bard of Rage

Look, we all knew Grog was going to be Rage. The aspect isn't necessarily anger, but Grog's also a very chaotic and anarchic character, arguably the most of the group.

Neither of the warrior classes - Knight and Page - fit, so instead, I turned to the Destroy classes, Bard and Prince. Bards are passive, moved by their aspect, building it up within themself to unleash it - which is very Barbarian Rage for a berserk mode.

Narratively, Bard may seem like a weird choice, but it does fit Grog - as one of the 'Noble' classes, well, he's royalty to the Heir of Storms, and Bard especially lines up with him being more comic relief.

There's a lot of meta about Bards being calm and representing their opposite aspect, before building it up until they break and go crazy, but I think that's reading way too much in to Gamzee. While I do buy that both destroy classes tend to be more like their inverse- which, in Grog's case, is Hope, representing his childlike naive personality - I think the break is more Gamzee's personal issues. Grog doesn't put too much of himself in his inverse, he's got a healthy respect and use of rage. So, his berserk rage is a power, not a time bomb waiting to go off.

Scanlan: Heir of Light

Scanlan is smart, funny, flirty, and 100% hiding deep insecurities that he's a failure no one will ever love. While there's some interesting stuff to put with him and Heart (being somewhat romantic but mostly about a sense of self) I think, at his core, Scanlan is a star, a showman, a main character - a Hero of Light.

Light is kind of symbolically messy, because it's knowledge, luck, and literal light, but I think more than anything, what it is is Plot Relevance. It's the spotlight shining down - which maps better, because while its inverse Void is secrets and darkness, more than anything else it's irrelevance.

Archetypally, Scanlan's either the Magician or the Prophet. He bounces between the two a bit, but they're a pair, and the closest/most fluid of the pairs, but that fits. I thinkhe leans more passive, as a support, and is more on the Magician side, so, I place him as the Heir of Light.

As the Heir of Light, fame and fortune are intuitive. Naturally lucky, naturally competent. Scanlan's pretty often the one finding the answers, he slides into the center point as face easily, and, like a lot of heirs, he can be more than a little easy to full.

But a big part of Scanlan is that he's the character I think we see get a full inversion - from Heir of Light to Mage of Void.

Mage is the class of suffering, and void insignificance. Void is also tied strongly to drugs and alcohol. At his lowest, Scanlan is convinced that no one has ever loved him or ever will, that they do not see him as anything but a joke. This isn't true - but inversion isn't your true self, it's unhealthy, and Scanlan is so caught up in his own self-deprecation, he can't see the ways Vox Machina does care for him.

Inheritor of Knowledge does fit really neatly with LoVM Scanlan and his relationship to Mythcarver (and, inevitably, Ioun) and I think there's an interesting meta about how the LoVM versions are kind of easier to classpect, because LoVM is the cleaned up and more focused narrative, so they have a more solid arc presented, but that's a whole different post.

Percy: Prince of Time

Narratively, Percy is a very active character, both as a plot driver (he's got the most active role in his personal arc) and as a more selfish character. He's mainly associated with creation and destruction - the inventor of weapons.

While he is a smart guy, I don't think knowledge (and therefore Light/Mind) are really a driving aspect of him in comparison. Instead, I think that we're looking more at that Create/Destroy angle, which is Space/Time - of which, I think he leans towards Destruction, Time. And, well, Clocks are a pretty big motif for him!

Archetypally, Percy is a Noble. He does lean prophet and warrior, but I think Noble is the most sense, and that is the class pair of Destroy. The active version is Prince.

Princes destroy their aspect, or destroy using their aspect. As they do this, they tend to take on their inverse aspect. Percy ghosts space as he destroys time - creating the means of destruction (guns) even as he seeks to destroy them (fight Ripley). He's got a lot of the characteristics of a space player, calm, aloof, and creative, but at his core still the focus and drive of a time player.

The main struggle of a Prince is to not destroy themself on their path. Percy, caught up in Revenge, needs to integrate these aspects of himself. I'd argue that's what his final confrontation with Ripley is - him accepting he cannot undo what was done, that guns (destruction) have been unleashed upon the world, and while that doesn't mean he can't stop the spread, it can't consume him.

Keyleth: Maid of Breath

Keyleth of the Air Ashari, Voice of the Tempest - she's totally a Hero of Breath. Aside from the Wind, Breath is associated with self-confidence and leadership, which is the main thing that Keyleth struggles with, as well as freedom and change.

Archetypally, Keyleth is either the Mage or the Fairy, Change/Create. While she's a selfless person, she's not really support, which rules out Sylph. Heir is the less passive, and has some fun things (as Heir to her mother's legacy) but Breath doesn't quite come natuarlly enough to Keyleth. She's powerful, but not really rebellious enough to be a Witch, so I'm leaning on Maid.

Maids start out relying on other people for their aspect. At the beginning, Keyleth goes along with the group. She's not assertive, and she's kind of just following them where they go, even as she really disagrees with them.

However, as she comes into her own, she learns to rely on herself. She becomes more confident, more assertive, and more powerful, and is able to share that with everyone else - literally, with Inspiring Leader. Keyleth in her final state is the epitome of Breath leading by example.

There's also something I think to be said about Breath as the opposite of Blood. Keyleth is destined to long outlive everyone she ever knows. As the Voice of the Tempest, we see her come to terms with that. It's not that she abandons her connections to the world, but she has, to an extent, moved past them. She's not chained to these people; she loves, but she's willing to let them go.

Tary: Page of Heart

Alright, one last chance to put a Space player in and save the session from being Voided. Space can fit with Tary, right? It's science aligned. Page's And there's some fun stuff with him wanting to be like Percy, who's the inverted Time?

Yeah, no. Vox Machina are doomed.

So, Tary is a page. He's like, the Epitome of Page. Even in canon, he's very much Vox Machina's Page - following around trying to learn from them, wanting to be a knight ("Sir Tary"). Pages are the class with the most potential, but the furthest from it, and, well, he is a bit useless. But, while it's a slow ride, he does have a lot to get to.

Pages are lacking in their aspect, so what is Tary missing? Well, his main arc is being a self-absorbed entitled guy learning to come to terms with who he is and who he wants to be. Classic Heart player.

Heart isn't exactly love - although Tary also grew up lacking in that - so much as Soul and Self. He's missing a strong self identity. He's emotionally stunted, leans on copying others for their ability. Pages also notably idealize their inverse - Tary would really love to be a Hero of Mind, and while he's smart, he's not the most comfortable in cold logic.

Also, Tary's gay and has a complicated relationship with being Gay. Which is also very Heart player (and very Page?).

Tary's arc is about growing into himself as a person. It's less about confidence, and more about knowing himself and being genuine. In the end, we see him getting fought over as Best Man, and leading his own brigade of heroes. While he's maybe still got some work to do, he has definitely come into his own by accepting himself.

On a similar note from my post comparing class 1-A and B's girls, I'm also cackling at how deep the male cast of 1-B is.

Top of the list is Monoma, the most dramatic person in the world. By all accounts, he should be an ass, yet he isn't. One of the smartest characters on the show, always analysing. Supports anyone that isn't in the rival class. His hero costume is basically "Phantom of the Opera" meets "Pocket watch collector". It's great. He's also a huge fan of french comics, or "bandes dessinées". Iconic as hell.

Kuroiro is the embodiment of darkness and schemes, constantly talks in a melodramatic fashion, and basically started a rivalry to "Out-Goth" Tokoyami. The guy literally thinks he came from the void, he's that goth. Yet he goes soft and shy for one person (Komori). Literally my favourite trope in the entire world.

Kamakiri is brash, violent, and won't hesitate to cut a b*tch. His favourite hobby is collecting bugs. One of the most hardened, most violent characters on the show, and his side hustle is collecting bugs. One of the calmest hobbies that requires a cool head to handle the critters. Beautiful.

We got Shishida, who's quirk is called "beast". Pretty self explanatory; he can go feral at any given time. But when he's out of beast mode? Most respectful, and eloquent person we've ever seen. Most put together person. Probably does his taxes for fun. Refers to the girls in his life as "Lady (insert name here)".

Shoda is class vice rep, respectfully holds the brain cell of the class and respectfully gives it to Kendo when she needs it, and on his downtime is into wrestling. Also hella smart, probably analyses a lot of fights, so he can better use his quirk. Held no ill will towards the people who best him in a fight.

Honenuki has a skeletal appearance and is a recommendation student. Very versatile quirk, flexible way of thinking, gives his classmates massages if they're cool with it. All around good guy. His hero name you ask? Mudman.

Awase? Chile, anybody who follows me knows how much I love him, but we're gonna keep this short. Cusses on the regular, and is so good with his quirk that he managed to detain the most volatile and dangerous student in his grade without getting hurt. Cool headband, cynical, will outright refuse to be used as a welding tool. All these traits cannot disguise the fact that he's an absolute dork, referred to Kendo's dress as, and I quote "Kinda sexy". Was 100% ready to lay down his life to save a girl that he barely knew, and caught feelings for her as a result.

Kosei Tsuburaba, the ride-or-die man of class 1-B. Honestly, he might be almost as detailed as Monoma. Loves special effects in superhero movies, enjoys ball games, and is a hopeless romantic. I'm not kidding, he's constantly bending two of his classmates' ears with talk about romance. Dirty minded, but still extremely respectful.

Show me a side character who represents the duality of man more then Sen Kaibara. I'll wait. Has rbf 24/7, and is chill until it's time to fight. Then he's all smiles and excitement. My man is completely chill and generally doesn't give a damn unless it's time to fight. Phenomenal. If he was in the spotlight more, he'd be too op, and Hori knows that. Loves cameras and photography, probably takes candid shots of his friends.

Hiryu Rin, one of the only two canon foreign transfer students at U.A. Comes from China, his costume is modelled after a kind of Chinese zombie. Is that one friend who's always cold. Minds his business all the time.

The gentlest giant in the entire show is Kojiro Bondo. The guy makes model figures in his spare time, and is the sweetest soul. No further explanation.

Manga Fukidashi. Where do I even start with this dude. My guy has a whole speech bubble for a head, and that isn't even part of his quirk. This dude is always joking around, and basically wants to scream Onomatopoeias for a living as a hero. Loves kids, is probably going to be a hella popular hero, just you wait. He'll be one of the big three, mark my words.

And finally, the man, the myth, the metal: Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu. Got shot several times during the attack on the camp, and still kept fighting. Got set on fire, and still didn't relent. You'd think a guy like him would be mean and brash, but no. This dude legit gets sparkly eyes whenever he sees Kendo use the brain cell of the class. Supportive as hell, will always cheer you up.

So yeah. A nuanced class of good boys. And do you know what's even better?

They all chug that Respect Women Juice with every meal.

top 'this is NOT how sexual intercourse works' moments in danmei

I am going to leave out the very common "and his dick is a foot long and he can go all night" trope (it's common in both danmei and het, and western romances as well, at this point it would be shorter to list works with explicit sex scenes that don't have that!)

I am also going to leave out the "this position can only be achieved by a trained acrobat" bits because hey, cultivators are hella flexible.

And I am also gonna pass by any bits where participant is not human - for example, at one point in The Reader and Protagonst Definitely Have to Be in True Love, Xie turns into a humanoid dragon (don't ask) and possesses two dicks. I've never met a dragon, humanoid or not, so who am I to say they don't have two dicks?

The crazy thing, there are still plenty of OMG moments. Some of my "faves:"

1. Wei Wuxian's self lubricating behind in MZDS. I am sorry, this is not how human body works! Don't be cheap and buy some lube. The people in The Wife Is First will happily sell you some from their shop at discount. It's not the only novel that does this (hi, Yu She!) but MDZS was my very first danmei and I remember going ????!!!!! After reading many danmei, I get pathetically excited when someone mentions any form of lubrication, heh.

PS The only time I didn't go !!!! at one of these things was in Yuwu, where Meatbun at least bothered to tell us Gu Mang's body has been altered and made demonic and demons do produce lubrication there. I mean, I still would be happier without but at least it doesn't break my logical brain.

Honestly, I adore MZDS but sometimes I wonder if MXTX has full understanding of how human body works. (He put a sword hilt WHERE?!)

2. Luo Binghe's "meat pillar" (no, that's the term used in the translation) with "green veins." PLS SEE A DOCTOR!!!! (Though the sex scenes in SVSSS are at least biologically possible so other than that, the novel gets a pass!)

3. Du Ze remembers kissing undead Xie to help him survive in The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have to Be In True Love. Fine. But at that point Xie is a skeleton literally. Also fine. But he remembers entangling their tongues. WHAT TONGUE DOES A SKELETON HAVE?! I am not sure I want to know!

4. This is physically possible but it drives me nuts so I am going to mention it. In Wu Chang Jie, in possibly the most gonzo sex scene, Zixiao forces Ziheng in an underground cave. OK. And at the very end, Zixiao, a big fan of facials, unloads at Ziheng's chest, face and hair. Yes - THE LOOSE LONGASS HAIR THEY ALL GOT DOWN TO THEIR BUTTS. They are in a cave. There may be an underground water source but still cave with no towels or soap or anything. HOW THE HELL DO THEY CLEAN UP?! All we get is Ziheng waking up all cleaned up and I am trying to imagine - did Zixiao drag his unconscious self into some underground pool and scrub the stuff out of his hair? How and with what? Did he perform a magic spell?! I can't help, I am detail oriented.

5. Once again, if you have tentacles, I suppose they can work that way, how would I know, I have never hung out with an octopus, but every time the ML of The Villain Is Outrageously Beautiful...ahem...spreads his tentacles, I crack up.

The Greek historian Diodorus of Sicily (65–50 BC) also wrote about Amazons, associating them with Saka-Scythian women who were as brave and aggressive in battle as the men. He pointed to the historical example of Zarina, who led a Saka-Parthian coalition to victories against tribes who wanted to enslave them (her story appears in chapter 23).

For his research on Amazon history, Diodorus consulted works by Ctesias (a Greek physician who settled in Persia around 400 BC) and Megasthenes (a Greek ethnographer who traveled to India ca. 350–290 BC). According to Diodorus’s sources, after a series of “revolutions” in Scythia, the Scythians were often ruled by strong women “endowed with exceptional valor”; they “train for war just like the men and in acts of manly courage they are in no way inferior to the men.” Many of these women accomplished “many great deeds, not just in Scythia, but in the lands bordering Scythia.”

At some point in the past, Pontus became home to a Scythian group governed by women who rode to war beside their men. One woman (Diodorus does not give her name) possessed extraordinary authority, superb intelligence, physical strength, and battle prowess. This brilliant leader trained a handpicked force of fighting women and began subduing neighboring lands. She founded Themiscyra at the mouth of the Thermodon in Pontus. Filled with pride “as the tide of her fortunes” rose, she began calling herself “Daughter of Ares,” the war god. Under this “kindly ruler beloved by her subjects, young girls were taught to hunt and they drilled daily in the arts of war.” She continued to lead her special army on wars of further conquest, advancing as far north as the Don River. So far there is nothing incredible in Diodorus’s account of a group of Scythians led by a successful female commander at some point in the distant past.

But in the following passage we can glimpse mythography in process, as the plausible is transformed into something more sensational. Ordinary Scythian society is twisted into an ominous “rule of hubristic women” scenario, a reversal of what was normal in the Mediterranean world, bound to titillate Diodorus’s audience. This powerful “queen,” declares Diodorus, enacted new laws that created a true gynocracy in Pontus, in which the women would always be sovereign and trained for warfare. She assigned men to domestic tasks, spinning wool and caring for children. She ordered that baby boys’ legs were to be maimed and girls would have one breast seared. From then on, Diodorus tells us, this Scythian tribe ruled exclusively by women was known as the Amazons and their queens were called “Daughters of Ares.”

This first great Amazon queen died heroically in battle. Her daughter (also unnamed) surpassed her mother’s great accomplishments, relates Diodorus, conquering lands around the Black Sea from the Don to Thrace, and she even made forays south into Syria. For many generations, these queens’ descendants continued to advance the Amazon nation in power and fame. Their decline began when the Greek hero Her- acles killed their queen, Hippolyte. Then Theseus abducted Antiope and made her his wife in Athens. In retaliation, the Amazons, aided by other Scythians, invaded Greece and besieged the Acropolis. But meanwhile, the native Anatolians they had conquered saw a chance to ex- ploit the Amazons’ absence. They united to make war against the few Amazons guarding Pontus.

These wars were so successful, says Diodorus, that the great race of Amazons of Pontus was essentially erased from history. Soon the Amazons were so diminished that only a few scattered bands remained. One of these small vestigial bands, led by Penthesilea, helped to defend Troy in the legendary Trojan War. People “in my day wrongly consider the ancient stories about the Amazons to be fictitious tales,” declares Diodorus. He explains why. After the Amazons lost the great Battle for Athens, the surviving Amazons gave up the idea of returning to Pontus, because it was ravaged by wars while they were away. Echoing Isocrates, above, Diodorus says the defeated Amazons accompanied their allies “the Scythians, into Scythia.” Thus the great Amazon empire vanished—absorbed back into the steppes of Scythia.

Strabo, a well-traveled native of Pontus, also speaks of the Amazons as an ethnic group consisting of both men and women. These people had once lived on the coast of Pontus, “the plain of the Amazons,” but were driven out. Strabo reports that some say they still live in the mountains of Caucasian Albania (eastern Georgia and Azerbaijan), while others place them in the northern foothills of the Caucasus. According to Strabo, the Amazon tribe was seminomadic and not all female. “When they were at home, they planted crops . . . and raised and trained horses, but the bravest among them spent most of their time away, hunting on horseback and making war.” Strabo’s account is another realistic description of a typical pastoral, seminomadic lifestyle, in which men and women could choose to hunt and campaign together or in segregated groups.

Scythians and Amazons received special attention in a work of the first century BC by Pompeius Trogus, a historian of Celtic roots with encyclopedic knowledge. His lost history was summarized and elaborated by Justin, who probably lived in the second century AD. The Scythians are described as battle-hardened warriors who prized inde- pendence and repelled all would-be conquerors. Trogus and Justin are clear that Amazons were Scythian women, capable of making war when they chose to. Scythian men and women were equals in heroic exploits, remarks Justin, making it “difficult to decide which of the two sexes had the more distinguished history.” Scythian men founded the Baktrian and Parthian empires, he reports, while Scythian women founded the Amazonian empire.

Once when the Scythian men were away for fifteen years making war in Asia, the women sent their husbands a message: If you don’t return home we will have sex with the neighboring tribe and the result- ing children will carry on the Scythian race. This story appears to refer to the seventh–sixth centuries BC during the Scythians’ conquests across western Asia, when there would have been long spans of years when most of the men were away. This theme of Scythian women taking up with other men of their own choosing recurs in many nomadic and Amazon traditions.

Herodotus, for example, relates that while the Scythians from the Don region were away for nearly thirty years campaigning against the Cimmerians and Medes, their women “consorted with the male slaves.” The women and their new consorts not only raised a whole generation of children to adulthood, but together they created an army to oppose the male warriors when they came home. In Justin’s account, the men returned home after receiving their women’s message. But in his detailed story of the origin of the Amazons of Pontus we hear about yet another group of resourceful Scythian women whose men had been killed in battle.

On the northern Black Sea, wrote Justin, two young Scythians named Plynus and Skolopitus were forced out of their homeland by a faction. They assembled a large band of young men and traveled south over the Caucasus Mountains and occupied Pontus. “From their new base in Pontus, they plundered the nearby lands for a long time.” At last, the native peoples rose up. They ambushed and slaughtered most of the Scythian men. “The Scythians’ wives now perceived that they were widows as well as outsiders. They took up arms and defended their territory. And then the women went on the attack. They refused to marry, calling it slavery.”

These women, says Justin, “embarked on an enterprise unparalleled in all history,” creating and defending a state without men. They even killed the hus- bands who had survived by remaining at home, so that no woman would seem more fortunate than those who had lost their men. Next they avenged their husbands’ deaths by destroying the guilty local tribes. In the peace that followed, they had sex with neighboring peoples so that their bloodline would not die out. The Amazons of Pontus killed baby boys and raised the girls to ride horses, kill game, and train for combat “instead of keeping them in idleness or working with wool” like Greek wives.

An earlier fragmentary version of this Amazon origin tale comes from the geographer Skymnos of Chios (ca. 185 BC). In his account, a group of Maeotians led by two young men named Ilinus and Skolopitus journeyed from the Sea of Azov over the Caucasus and settled in Pontus. After the men were killed by an uprising of the natives, the women took up arms and became successful warriors in their own right. The warrior women were later conquered by the Greeks and dispersed back to the north. These “Amazons and their husbands” migrated back to the land west of the Don and continued to be known as Maeotians. Skymnos clearly identifies Amazons as women of Scythian origins. See chapter 22 for a historical warrior queen of the Maeotians, Tirgatao.)

The geographer Pomponius Mela, writing in about AD 43, located Amazons on the steppes around the Don, the Sea of Azov, and the Caspian Sea, and also in the vast expanse eastward toward the land of the Seres (“Silk People,” China). In Pontus, on the Thermodon plain, a place called “Amazonius” had long ago been an encampment of Amazons when they dominated Anatolia. They had worshipped Artemis at Ephesus and named the town of Cyme on the Aegean coast after the Amazon leader who drove out the native inhabitants (Cyme issued coins showing an Amazon and a prancing horse). The steppes, he wrote, are rich in pastures and they are occupied by the Amazons. The Maeotians around the Sea of Azov are called Gynaecocratumenoe (“Ruled by Women”). The men are archers on foot, while the women ride on horse-back and lasso enemies with lariats. There is no predictable age for women to marry, noted Pomponius Mela, because the women remain single until they prove themselves in battle.

Pliny the Elder, the Roman natural historian writing in about AD 70, uses words and names similar to those used by Skymnos and Pomponius Mela. Pliny calls the Sarmatians Gynaecocratumenoe (“Ruled by Women”) and also refers to the “Amazons and their husbands.” A century later, during the Roman defeat of the Goths in Thrace (AD 270– 275), the Romans referred to the captive Gothic women as “Amazons.” Orosius, a learned and well-traveled Christian historian of the early fifth century AD, consulted numerous classical sources, such as Livy, Tacitus, Diodorus, and Justin, as well as Trogus and other texts that no longer survive, including traditional foundation tales of cities that claimed Amazons in their past. In his History Against the Pagans, Orosius tells how the Amazons came to rule in long-ago Pontus. Orosius’s history recaps Diodorus’s account, above, but supplies proper names and details from Justin’s account.

Orosius also inserts his own views. One of Orosius’s important sources was Justin, who reported that the ancient Amazons of Pontus were ruled by a pair of queens named Martesia (Marpesia, “Snatcher or Seizer”) and Lampeto (Lampedo, “Burning Torch”). Justin says the corulers divided their all-women forces and took turns leading conquering armies and defending Pontus (Orosius says they drew lots). According to Orosius, Lampedo led the invading Amazon army to subdue most of Thrace and captured some cities of Anatolia, founding Ephesus and other towns. Her victorious army “laden with rich booty,returned to Pontus.But she found that the other half of the forces that had remained with Queen Marpesia to protect their empire had been cut to pieces in a battle.”

Marpesia’s daughter, Sinope, succeeded her mother, giving her name to Sinope in Pontus. As a “crowning achievement to her matchless reputation for courage,” says Orosius, Sinope remained a virgin to the end of her life.” So great was the “admiration and fear spread by her fame” that when Heracles was ordered to bring the weapons of the Amazon queen to his master, he was “certain that he would face inevitable peril.” Orosius expected his Christian audience to be shocked and outraged by the “shame and human error” of powerful women of antiquity willfully dominating men, choosing foreign lovers, killing baby boys, building cities, and marching out to conquer. Unlike Justin, who plainly admired the “unparalleled enterprise” of the women, Orosius is the first ancient writer to explicitly express disapproval of the “unnatural” state of independent Scythian women who behaved as the equals of men. Yet even Orosius cannot suppress his admiration for the Amazons of yore. In a surprising conclusion, Orosius praises the sublime courage of the four greatest Amazon queens, Hippolyte, Melanippe, Antiope, and Penthesilea.

Notably, in 2006, archaeologists discovered magnificent life-size portraits of the famous quartet of Amazon queens, Hippolyte, Antiope, Melanippe, and Penthesilea, in a mosaic floor of the ruins of a villa under a parking lot in ancient Edessa (Sanliurfa, Turkey) . The action-packed scenes are unusual because they show the queens hunting lions and leopards instead of making war. The spectacular mosaics at the Villa of the Amazons were made in the fifth or sixth century AD, in the period when Orosius was writing his history of the pagans. The power of ancient Amazon stories to thrill had not faded after four centuries of Christianity.

Another author of later antiquity, an Alan-Goth from the northern Caucasus named Jordanes, wrote a fascinating history of the Goths— laced with heaping doses of fiction—in AD 551. Jordanes, who had access to ancient Gothic and Alan traditions, portrayed the Goths, who migrated from Europe to the steppes, as the heirs of the Scythians “whom ancient tradition asserts to have been the husbands of the Amazons.” Here is yet another succinct expression of the ancient understanding of Amazons as Scythian women. Jordanes says that the Amazons once dwelled around the Sea of Azov, from the Borysthenes to the Don—and he claims the Amazon queens Marpesia and Lampeto as the ancient “ancestors” of the Goths.

In Jordanes’s Gothocentric version of the old legends told by Justin and Orosius, long ago while the Goth men were away on an expedition, an enemy tribe attempted to carry off the Goth women. But “they made a brave resistance, as they had been taught to do by their husbands.” After routing the attackers, the Goth women “were inspired with great daring.” They took up arms and chose as their leaders the two boldest women, Marpesia and Lampeto. In this Gothic rendition, it was Marpesia who led an army of conquest while Lampeto stayed to guard their native land. On her campaigns Marpesia and her Amazon army encamped for a long time at the eastern tip of the Caucasus range where it meets the Caspian Sea (ancient Caucasian Albania, now Dagestan), one of the major nomad migration routes described earlier. This place, says Jordanes, was thereafter called the “Rock of Marpesia.” This legend was already known in the first century BC to Virgil, who calls it the “Marpesian Cliff.”

Jordanes lists the glorious conquests across Anatolia and Armenia by the “Scythian-born women who had by chance gained control over the tribes of Asia and held them for almost a hundred years, before returning to their kinsfolk at the Marpesian Rock.” Amazons retained “power in that region up to the time of Alexander the Great” (here Jordanes alludes to Alexander’s meeting with Amazons on the southern shore of the Caspian; chapter 20). By Jordanes’s time—more than a thousand years after Homer and Herodotus—the fame of the warlike Scythian women, called Amazons, evoked such respect and awe that the legendary Amazon queens were claimed as ancestors of the powerful Goths.”

okay so, if you’re feeling like you’re too tight and it hurts or you’re uncomfortable, you might want to invest in a good lube! I honestly, feel like there’s quite a few tropes/plots that I’ll always have a soft spot for, so I’ll use this as a chance to list them and say why.

Friends to Lovers - I don’t even know if people consider this a trope, but I love this shit - especially when it’s two people who’ve been good friends for years and years, have been each other’s wingmen and support systems and then maybe there’s a catalyst or a moment where one of them realizes ‘oh shit...i’m actually in love with my best friend’ - and of course, because I love my angst, there might be some one-sided pining or agonizing over whether or not to confess their feelings ‘cause they don’t want to mess up the friendship and ruin what they have.

Childhood Friends Reunited - I’m also a simp for the trope/plot where our muses meet as young children but because of circumstances (usually one of them moving away), they’re separated from one another and they go years and years without seeing each other - and then one day, as adults or high school students even, they have a chance encounter once again.  I also feel like this idea has some fun flexibility - some people might play it as them recognizing each other right away, or maybe it’s a slow realization that they both have to come to.  Hell, why not do it so one remembers but the other one doesn’t? For the angst, of course.

Any kind of Shop AU - I thought of putting Coffee Shop AU but I guess I do have to concede that a lot of shop AU’s have the same premise (Your muse works at cafe or store or restaurant and the other muse is their favorite customer/a customer they gradually grow closer to/a cute co-worker mayhaps.) I know people find them to be overdone and generic but I love this shit, I eat this shit up - I’m doing an amazing Convenience Store AU with @more-than-a-princess​​ right now and it’s become something so much bigger and detailed than just that, and that’s what I think these sort of AU’s have the potential for.  Also, I just don’t want to hear no disrespect towards Coffee Shop AU’s.  They’re fun.

Pokemon Crossovers - Pokemon as a crossover potential is just so fun, honestly - and I feel like all of the spin-offs add versatility to it, as well - the premise doesn’t even need to be two trainers taking on the Gym Challenge and becoming Pokemon Masters.  You could do an AU based off of the Pokemon Ranger games, you could play around with Pokemon Conquest and do a sort of Pokemon thread that’s set in Feudal Japan - hell, I think even this new Legends game would be a fun AU, where it seems like the world doesn’t know as much about Pokemon and it’s set well before the games we’ve become familiar with.  Pokemon Mystery Dungeon AU’s are hella fun?? Even just doing a Pokemon Journey with two muses - maybe one muse is a breeder or one does contests.  There’s a lot of potential with Pokemon and frankly, it’s fun.

comes from a family of purebloods (his father is an unknown muggle), but not a blood purist. 

knows some dark magic and isn’t morally against using it if he deems it necessary to achieve greater ends, but doesn’t often, aware of the stigma against it

wand analysis.

pine.

The straight-grained pine wand always chooses an independent, individual master who may be perceived as a loner, intriguing and perhaps mysterious. Pine wands enjoy being used creatively, and unlike some others, will adapt unprotestingly to new methods and spells. Many wandmakers insist that pine wands are able to detect, and perform best for, owners who are destined for long lives, and I can confirm this in as much as I have never personally known the master of a pine wand to die young. The pine wand is one of those that is most sensitive to non-verbal magic.

phoenix feather.

This is the rarest core type. Phoenix feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either unicorn or dragon cores to reveal this. They show the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards dislike.

Phoenix feather wands are always the pickiest when it comes to potential owners, for the creature from which they are taken is one of the most independent and detached in the world. These wands are the hardest to tame and to personalise, and their allegiance is usually hard won.

a pine’s owner tends to be an independent loner, which clearly works for levi, and its penchant for creativity and adaptability is representative of levi’s own resourceful ability to adapt quickly to new situations. he has been known to modify his spells in ways that make them either more powerful or more effective in certain circumstances, and his pine wand reacts well to it. as for the rumor that pine owners live long lives, well, levi considers that to be bitterly ironic, as he doesn’t expect to live long at all, but then, the fact that he seems to keep on surviving while the people around him die might belie that.

as for the phoenix feather, levi is well-represented in the phoenix: an intensely powerful and independent creature whose loyalty, when won, is invaluable, but whose trust takes a great deal to earn. levi is not easily tamed, and he, too, has a tendency to act of his own accord when he believes it necessary, defying orders if need be, so it’s fitting that his wand has the potential for the same.

house analysis.

first, let me discuss why i didn’t place him in any other houses, because i’ve seen people headcanon pretty much all of them for levi.

hufflepuff: i guess he gets this one because he’s loyal and cares about protecting people? but slytherins are also loyal and care about protecting people - and levi simply doesn’t have the temperament of a hufflepuff. despite his protectiveness and good intentions, he doesn’t project patience or kindness (those qualities exist, but they aren’t on display), he isn’t team- or family-oriented, he doesn’t care about avoiding conflict, and he doesn’t have the affinity for nature, food, etc that hufflepuffs often have. to be blunt, y’all, he’s not a good enough person for hufflepuff.

ravenclaw: this one i understand, because levi is very intelligent, and he does care about honesty and truth, and he is innovative. but levi’s intelligence is very practical and in-the-moment; he doesn’t really care about academia for academia’s sake. he values learning for the sake of putting it to use more than for its own merits. he’s not the kind of free-thinker ravenclaws often are. his cleverness is more slytherin than ravenclaw.

gryffindor. yes, levi cares about a cause. yes, levi can be noble. but here’s the thing: gryffindors tend to have a strong moral code and stick to it; they have a clear idea of what a just world is and try their hardest to achieve it. levi sees the world in shades of grey, without a clear good and evil. his morality is much more flexible and individualistic; a gryffindor would frown upon levi’s machiavellian does-whatever-is-necessary-to-achieve-his-ends philosophy. levi also doesn’t care about glory and isn’t as social as gryffindors tend to be. frankly, though he can be friends with gryffindors individually (isabel is a gryffindor), as a whole they’re more likely to tire and frustrate him. (to be quite honest with you, it baffles me to see people draw/sort levi as a gryffindor. he’d be so annoyed if he had to be around gryffindors all the time??? let him Rest????)

slytherin. slytherins can be very loyal, but this loyalty tends to be conditional to their in-group. they aren’t highly social, but they do protect their groups, their families, to a fault. this mirrors levi’s brand of loyalty: he’ll only attach himself to a person, like erwin, who has proven themselves to him, and while he’s very individual, he’s protective of the small groups that may form around him. 

he’s both cunning and underhanded - his ability to think on the spot and adapt to situations plus his willingness to play dirty to get what he wants would offend a gryffindor, as would his belief that unpleasant methods can be justified by a necessary result. he doesn’t see the world as divided into good and evil, but rather into groups of people who’ve had to make choices; his grey view of the world, plus his ability to read people and guess the motivations behind their choices, strike me as more slytherin than anything else.

now, one thing that isn’t very slytherin of him is his tendency towards blunt honesty; he might flatly refuse to practice the deceit another slytherin might say is wiser or more necessary. levi is underhanded, but openly so - he’ll do whatever he needs to to get his way, but he’ll tell you that upfront. he isn’t manipulative in the way erwin is, in that his manipulations are, while effective, also transparent. in fact, some might accuse his style of blunt intimidation of being unpleasantly gryffindor - an insult among slytherins, who see discreet manipulation and finesse as far more valuable than physical intimidation, when getting one’s way. (levi, of course, ignores these jabs and continues on anyway.)

i suppose the whole slytherins are evil thing needs to be addressed. obviously slytherins aren’t evil, not as a whole, and levi certainly isn’t. (he isn’t the exception here; there are plenty of slytherins with their hearts in the right place.) but he also isn’t concerned with being seen as a good person - he’d like to be a good person, if he can, but whether others think of him that way is less important. he does want to be seen as a competent person, and recognized for his skills, but the fact is that he’s rude, he’s crass, he’s broody, and he’s unapologetic about it. so while his compassion belies the heartless slytherins stereotype other houses love to indulge in, his general antisocial nature doesn’t do the house image many favors. 

he also, as noted, cares for gaining knowledge so it can be used, rather than for its own sake; hange, a definite ravenclaw (imo), might want to study something just to see what it does, while levi is looking for ways to put that knowledge to use in his favor. (he’s constantly doing this, actually, observing the world around him and filing away any knowledge that might prove useful in the future, as a survival mechanism.) that’s very slytherin, as is his pragmatism in how to use what he discovers. i also think that the kind of adaptability and self-preservation instincts levi possesses and cultivates are pretty slytherin - slytherins are probably the best out of any house at constantly observing, evaluating, and adapting to the situation around them

history.

     (note that anything during his school years and after is flexible, depending on      plotting; consider this the default.)

the ackermans were, once, a prominent pureblood family, renowned for producing wizards of great power. at some point in the past, however - before grindelwald’s rise, but continuing into it - they fell out of favor in the pureblood community when prominent members of the family refused to support the increasing demand for subjugation of muggles and muggleborns. labeled blood-traitors, the ackermans lost their positions of power (discreetly dismissed from the wizengamot, forced out of government seats), and there were those, especially in the fervor of grindelwald’s propaganda, who even actively persecuted the members of the ackerman family, hunting them down until there were few left.

kuchel ackerman, a young woman and competent, if not particularly powerful, witch, fled to france in the late 1950s with her infant son levi to escape such persecution, hoping that disappearing into the muggle world on the continent would keep her son safe. she didn’t dare to use magic lest it give her away, but her lack of muggle knowledge or muggle qualifications made finding and keeping a job difficult, so she and levi lived in poverty. nevertheless, she raised him as best she could, until, when levi was seven years old, she grew very ill and died.

her brother, kenny ackerman, had meanwhile found other ways of avoiding persecution. in his youth, angry at the rest of pureblood society, kenny had secretly murdered several purebloods, with such skill and stealth that he’d never been caught. that ended, however, when he attempted to murder uri reiss, a powerful wizard - uri caught him, but rather than having kenny punished, struck a deal with him: kenny would be uri’s right hand man, lending uri his immense magical skill, and in turn kenny would be under the reiss family’s protection. this deal lasted for almost a decade - until uri died, and his successor had no such kindness for kenny; he cast kenny out of his household, threatening to reveal kenny’s past murders to the public, and kenny was forced into hiding.

he went to france, thinking to find his sister, whom he hadn’t seen in many years, but when his search led him to a rundown tenement, he found only a scrawny, half-starved child hunkered down in the dirt. unaware that his sister had ever had a child, assuming that this boy was nothing but a squatter, kenny almost left - until the boy looked up and saw him, and kenny was blasted backwards with a force that made the rotting foundation shake.

the boy’s posture hadn’t changed - he still huddled on the ground, his knees drawn up to his chin - but the force was clearly magic, and powerful magic at that. so kenny investigated, and wrung the story of his mother’s life and death out of levi. kenny decided to stay and look after his nephew, though he never revealed to levi that they were related, introducing himself only as a family friend. 

levi’s magic was powerful but dangerously uncontrolled; the burn marks on his hands proved that it had already hurt him at least once. kenny taught him to harness and control his magic. levi didn’t of course have his own wand and kenny refused to give him his, but he taught levi the basics of wandless magic, as well as how to open his senses to other people’s magic and focus his intent. but that wasn’t all -- kenny also taught levi to survive in a magicless world, to fight with both fists and blade, to steal, to observe, to trust his own strength. it was the only way he knew how to raise a child: teach him to survive, whatever it takes.

when levi was ten, they moved back to britain, and kenny started disappearing for a few days at a time, never explaining his errands to levi. the summer after levi’s eleventh birthday, he got his hogwarts letter. (this was, incidentally, the first time levi saw his last name; neither kuchel nor kenny had ever told him, so at first he thought the letter addressed to mr l ackerman was a mistake.) kenny wouldn’t go with him to diagon alley, so levi went alone with the money he had saved up and bought himself as much as he could from his list. when he returned home, robes and new wand in hand, kenny wasn’t there. levi assumed he was off on another errand, or testing levi in some way, but when kenny still hadn’t returned by september first, it was left to levi to find his way to king’s cross alone.

at hogwarts, he was sorted into slytherin, but showed little interest in the forming of alliances that quickly began amongst other slytherin first-years. in fact, he ignored both friendly and unfriendly advances from his housemates, some of whom thought him easy prey because of both his size and his last name. but when one would-be bully ended up in the hospital wing with a broken wrist after a confrontation with levi, he was left mostly alone.

the truth was that levi had no idea how to make friends, how to even try, and he couldn’t help but size up everyone around him as a potential threat; years under kenny’s tutelage had ingrained him with suspicion. his main goal was simply to avoid being bothered, and he focused more on his classes than his classmates. he quickly proved himself an intimidatingly skilled wizard: he excelled especially at defense against the dark arts, with charms as a close second. he also discovered, during their first flying lesson, an immediate love of flying, and though he never joined a quidditch team, he would often sneak out to the quidditch pitch at night, pick the broomshed lock, and steal a broom to fly until he felt calm.

when levi went home for the winter holidays, kenny wasn’t there, and obviously hadn’t been there in quite some time. rather than tell anyone, however, levi resigned himself to living alone; the small amount of wizarding money he possessed was useless here, but he could steal and forage for what he needed, and that’s what he continued to do throughout his years at school. it was an odd sort of double life, spending most of the year in comfort if not joy, and then returning to the muggle world over the summer to live alone as just another kid on the muggle streets.

he didn’t make his first real friend until farlan church, a charismatic ravenclaw, partnered himself with levi on a project and hadn’t left him alone since. levi resisted farlan’s attempts at friendship at first, but eventually relented; farlan was clever and humorous, but also perceptive and level-headed, and never seemed to mind levi’s dour attitude or black humor. in time the duo became three when levi stepped in to protect isabel magnolia, a younger gryffindor, from a gang of students she’d managed to offend. isabel attached herself to levi, calling him her big brother - a move that garnered both laughter and anger from other students, in a time when, as death eater attacks were becoming more common outside hogwarts’ walls, befriending slytherins was becoming increasingly taboo.

by the time levi and farlan graduated, the three were an inseparable trio. farlan and levi moved in together, and isabel began joining them over breaks rather than going home to the orphanage. though war had broken out in the wizarding world, levi had no desire to take part; all he cared about was keeping his head down and sticking with the people he’d begun to think of as his family. 

but the luxury of remaining uninvolved didn’t last long. it wasn’t long after isabel’s graduation. there was a death eater attack. farlan and isabel (a half-blood and a muggle-born respectively) were killed, and levi - levi who had gone out, levi who had left instead of staying home like isabel had asked him to - arrived only in time to see the bodies fall, lit by the curses from within.

he snapped. by the time members of the order of the phoenix arrived in pursuit of the death eaters, what they found instead was levi, blood-spattered in the middle of a ring of carnage, wizards falling around him, the crackle of his magic in the air. one of the order members, erwin smith, a hogwarts graduate some years above levi, already knew of levi and his dueling skills, and it was he who approached levi and convinced him to join in the order, to fight for revenge against the people responsible for isabel and farlan’s death.

so levi joined. as one would expect, he made few friends in the order, at least at first - he was a slytherin, for one thing, and utterly uninterested in working with the rest of the order. angry, antisocial, he tended towards solo missions, convinced anyone else would get in his way, and it was a long time before he learned to work with others. in fact, when suspicions of a spy within the order came out, there were more than a few fingers pointed levi’s way. but erwin vouched for him, and dumbledore trusted him, and it became clear soon enough that whatever else levi was, he was dedicated to saving lives, and the amount of times he protected his fellow order members and civilians alike from death eaters was undeniable. some said that he was the reason the order hung on as long as it did, even fighting a losing battle.

eventually, though, the battle ended. they won, not through levi’s skill or erwin’s planning, but through little more than luck, or so it seemed - one baby’s inability to die. and just like that there was no more fighting to be done. levi was left to figure out how to live in a world at peace - until, of course, a new war came along, and a new generation to fight alongside.

(this is where the timeline gets especially flexible. what does levi do in the intervening years between the wars? whatever works best for the thread, really. some options are these:

dragged along by erwin and hange, who both become professors at hogwarts after the war, levi becomes the flying instructor and head of the dueling club. he isn’t exactly a personable teacher, but he’s a formidable and respected figure, and legends run rampant about his deeds during the war. some students dislike or fear him, while others hope to impress him, and others still have seen the kindness he shows to young students who need a listening ear.

though he refuses to actually work in the ministry, and turns down offers to join the auror program, he does consent to help the aurors hunt down death eaters who fled after voldemort’s fall. once that’s done, he - sticks around, call him a freelancer, there are aurors he knows who were in the order, and he helps them, tracks down dangerous criminals, steps in when his skills are needed. he’s still not ministry, though. shut up.

it’s hard, adjusting to peace. it’s hard, trying to live a quiet life when his body seems trained to expect disaster. but damn it, levi’s going to try. he’s earned that. he owns a tea shop in hogsmeade, a tidy little place. he doesn’t make a fuss, and only a few people think to the connection between levi the tea proprietor and the levi ackerman who killed so many death eaters during the war. but his instincts never go away, and neither do the nightmares.

when voldemort returns, levi isn’t surprised. the world’s a shitty place, after all, and it’s too much to expect that evil dark lords will just stay dead. it sucks, but in some ways it’s almost a relief, rejoining the order, taking up the fight - because this, in the end, feels like it’s all he was ever meant to do. he was made for war; let war take him.

With the year coming to a close soon, thank god, I thought it’d be cool to take a look back and see what’s transpired in FFXIV as well as this blog! One of my more recent posts, and one not all too involved in the posing. Though, like I said in the post, the MOMENT I saw that arena, I fell in love with its lighting. OST is also a banger. Glad that people enjoyed random glamour shots with Gshade improving the already good lighting.

The screenshot at the end is still my favorite screenshot of Sae I’ve taken, even if it’s not IC.

And I still stand by my statements today. Since last tier is a patch behind us now, I could spare some augments to finally dye the coat. And, like a basic bitch, I’ve made Saerno’s ninja Rogue glamour jet black as far as the eye can see; all leather, of course. What is a rogue really without their leather?

In-Game

- Levelled all classes to 80! Though it does feel a bit hollow not being able to get xp for doing stuff now...

- Started Raiding... Well, seriously. I used to be a scrub and only do e1,e5 and e6 savage in PF, but a friend’s static needed a healer and they all but convinced me I was good enough to join. It’s been a hell of a ride, I’ll finally be going into e12s soon, but my experiences thus far have been awesome to say the least. I feel like I’m actually getting the most out of this game now that I both savage raid and take the time to RP.

- FINALLY GOT A HOUSE ON BALMUNG. 

God was the release of the new wards hella stressful. Stayed up all night, logged on the second I could, booted up next to the ferryman. Didn’t get my ideal plot, but got the neighboring one. I finally got to house something with more than 100 slots, and for that, I am eternally thankful.

- Finished those goddamn Shared Fates. And all so I could get a piece of music and possibly make a few million gil selling other SHB area themes. Crystarium night theme is the GOAT and you cannot tell me otherwise.

Roleplay

- Actually RP’ed outside of my circle of friends! Now I haven’t had the time recently to seriously go back to it like I once did, but the things I’ve learned and the people I’ve met... I wouldn’t trade it for the world. With this upcoming new year, and me taking a small break from Uni, I think I’ll begin in earnest again! First I’ve gotta update all these damn sites first to better reflect where Saerno is now.

- New Plotlines realized, old ones closed up. It’s cathartic and oh so satisfying, in a way, to see your OC go through legitimate change and to have them put a cap upon a phase of their life, slowly moving on to the next. While Saerno is still as brash as ever, he’s begun to realize just how fragile his life is. To slow down, to sit back, rest, to think about the direction his life is headed, that is the essence of his new arc.

- Secrets to uncover. To keep things brief and without many spoiler, Saerno has made the transition from Arcanist to Summoner, but with it comes its own host of problems, ones that Saerno has to grapple lest things take a turn for the worse.

- Potential Alts. Well, now that I have money again... I may actually follow through on one of the many alt ideas I’ve had, some tangentially tied to Saerno’s own story, others completely unrelated. A tailor with an unrequited love that’s inspired him throughout his hardships? Perhaps the prodigal daughter of a family whose cunning nature only fuels her desire of pure freedom? Or maybe the son of Doman liberators, trying desperately to gain the approval and praise of others so that his parents’ name do not die out completely. So many choices... 

And, well, that’s all! So far while 2020 has been quite terrible, at least I have these moments to look back upon fondly. Thanks to any and all of your who have been here this year, and here’s to hoping for a wonderful 2021!

a few things to say - i know i have alienated her to a degree since the highest population of muses are in their early to mid 20s, but that’s why i purposefully wrote her as a traveler to offset some of that!! so that this way, at least she’d be able to travel around to the other nations and make meaningful connections with a whole variety of people!

also - these titles are all song titles/lyircs from songs on a playlist i’ve had on repeat for the last few days in quarantine. some are directly applicable feelings/vibe wise, others are just the right feel in the title itself and not necessarily the song lyrics apply to the plot! (wow this feels like krp tumblr in like, 2014). sidenote: i am a very flexible rper, and am comfortable with nsfw themes but PLEASE let me know if you are not! would never want to make any of my partners uncomfortable and PLEASE do not try to push yourself if it’s something you don’t like to/don’t usually incorporate!

for how angsty that title sounds this plot is not angsty at all LMFAO. while traveling with her father i imagine that she’d make some friends that she consistently seeks out whenever they’re in that nation! soliya is pretty relaxed and friendly, especially since that’s the whole point of a diplomatic visit. plus, just traveling to all the different air temples and nations, you naturally make connections! she probably tries to get to know as many people as possible and make as many connections as possible - plus a tour of each place from a local? heck yes! post-black sun, as she’s going through and getting the feel for how each nation is, as a representative of the air nomads and on her father’s behalf, i can imagine she’d be so fucking worried for all of the people she’s met and knows! this also allows us for current plots and past plots!! at the moment, looking for 1 muse for each spot from the other nations to start!

sometimes you just gotta get out excess energy! what better way to do so than a friendly spar? love the idea of our muses passing the time not just with companionship, but with some bending sparring! learning the tricks and the trades of each other’s bending styles, and pushing each other to be even better. there may not be a need per say, to train, but it’s always nice to keep your skills sharp and learn more about each style and person! i think soliya would be fascinated by the other types of bending out there, especially the particular and unique subsets of each, and also by how each person’s own style affects the moves/impact/force! since she’s also on the older side of the spectrum, could definitely see her being a mentor type not just to other airbenders, but also just in tactical elements/critical thinking during spars, etc. post-black sun...there may be a need to spar for the intents of training. but also - check ins on status, health, is there anything that i can do for you?

cough, so this requires the making of a muse, and i will put this on a wanted connection ask to the main page maybe like...a few days after i first start but like...this is a big part of liya’s origin story! i go over it here and here, so i won’t make this too long, but yes! i would SO LOVE someone to work this in their bio if they’d like and we can play out the various interactions pre, during, and post the incident. liya holds SO MUCH guilt from the accident and will probably never fully forgive herself, especially as she gets older, as the more mature she gets, the more obvious it is to her how much of a shithead she was as a teen. and even now, in her relationship with her bending and her personal relationships (esp. romantic) she’s guarded to a degree, even almost 15 years later.

after the accident with her younger sibling at around age 16/17, she went into a period of self-isolation for about 4 months. 3 of which were spent on air temple island, and one in which she soul searched at the other 4 air temples (nesw). after she comes back home she’s ready to take on her father’s teachers on self-discipline and applying it into her everyday life & demeanor. that probably takes about another 4 months of intensive learning/meditation/isolation, along with traveling to other air temples for training with other airbending masters which comes to a total of 8 months in which she is just MIA. the idea for this plot would probably be that she is significant is some way to your muse - be it a big ass crush, an older-sister figure, a mother figure???, an incredibly strong friendship or any other dynamic, and when she just disappears without notice (i feel like she cycles through all the nations at least once every 2 months or so, stays for at least a few days) your muse is just “what the hell?” primarily a pre-black sun plot for the drama and character development, but that probably also means that by now (almost 15 years!) their relationship is hella strong and they’re very, very, close!

emotional support. someone to talk to, to confide in. this is someone, one of the VERY few people (maybe even the only one?) that she would confide in and talk openly about her feelings with, regarding the accident. i imagine this is a - after her 8 months of isolation/soul-searching, they’d meet for the first time, exchange kind of stilted pleasantries, and then just *emotional breakdown* as soon as they hugged. she’s be 17 at the time, so this is someone who would need to be about the same age/maturity to be able to handle it (or not!!! lmfao!!!!) and comfort or just, be there to help her work through it as she wouldn’t want to talk to her family about it - they’re just too close to the situation and their reassurances always feel a bit fake (to her).

similar to the above! primarily a pre-black sun plot for the angst and drama and character development, buy they’re super fucking close by now (or do they have a fallout???) so whatever we decide, it’ll affect what their relationship is like post-black sun!

the general gist of this plot is like...liya, in her head: man, fuck this asshole!

it’s that person that just gets under your fucking skin for some goddamn reason. be it completely different values, incompatible personalities (which is some a1 shit cause she usually gets along with most), or they’re just flat out hostile...something makes it almost impossible to stay calm around this person. they just dig at her finely shaped walls, and though she’s spent YEARS cultivating her self control and discipline, this person always gets her so close to breaking it and having her lash out (aka returning back to her younger days), but she’s not going to let them get the best of her (right?)

post-black sun...honestly i have no idea LOL. this would probably just have to be worked out in more detail with whomever takes this plot! as the undercurrents of why they don’t get along can be attributed to many different things (pure unadulterated hatred? simple annoyance? hate chemistry?), which would then affect how they are/interact after black sun!

CLOSED: @gataash​ i’m gonna keep this one a bit shorter and only give the gist, as i’d really love to flesh out this plot via...well, plotting! essentially, they/she fell really deeply in love (i’m thinking she’s like, 26-28 during this), as in - ‘i may actually end up marrying this person’ kind of deep. they’re not co-dependent by any means, but they’re attached at the hip whenever they’re near each other, and i think this would probably be a relationship that’s REALLY steady for at least like, 3+ years, but whatever the exact reason, something comes up and it’s related to her incident when she hurt her younger sibling as she’s naturally incredibly guarded about this (i mean hey, she went into a self-isolating state and didn’t airbend for about 4 months after it happened). they fight, she tries to keep calm, ends up losing a bit of that control, and VERY VERY MILDLY injures the s/o, but due to the precedence and the guilt and lasting trauma from all those years ago, she breaks down, ends it, and runs away (aye) and plays the avoidance game for as long as she can manage.

About Lisa’s strength

All of my headcanons and analysis so far have been around how UNFORGIVING Kubo (aka The Monster) has been towards everyone’s favorite group (the Vizards, of course). And this one will be NO EXCEPTION to that, because if he gave them the attention they deserved, I shouldn’t have to be doing all this. But anyway! I enjoy them, so let’s head into it. So, I’m going to list all of Lisa’s abilities, and explain them in higher detail, adding a little bit of information that I came up with here and there.  1. She has a Hollow Mask: 

Well, there isn’t much to add here, as I’ve talked a lot more about Vizards here, we all know already that what makes Vizard special is the ability to use Hollow reiatsu. One step forward in the Shinigami evolution, sort to speak. This in THEORY makes the Vizards stronger than the actual Shinigami, or it should be, at least, as we’ve seen a dramatic failure in this theory. (which is nothing but plot armor, I guess?). But let’s assume they ARE super strong considering they didn’t... Die to their Inner Hollows, as most regular souls would normally do. 2. She has flexibility and is very acrobatic (oof): 

We’ve seen during her training with Ichigo, that she jumps, kicks and moves around doing a full split like nobody’s business. We don’t see many women fight like this (aside from her fellow Vizard Mashiro, and both Second Squad’s Captains), so regardless the usage of the sword, she seems to be proficient and hand-to-hand combat at a high degree (or at least higher that your average Shinigami).

3. She has a Shikai (like the majority of “relevant” Bleach characters):

I still have a tad more of explanation to do about dear Haguro Tonbo and what I perceive about it, but for now, we’re now standing in the basics. Regularly, you see it as a hella long spear. In some pics is portrayed as twice as Lisa’s height and really thick. Which we know about this is... Not much, but what I perceive from it is that it’s a Melee type zanpakuto, in similar style to Renji, Ikkaku, which makes a lot of sense considering the next point . 4. She makes Gillian Sashimi (which makes her highly proficient in Zanjutsu as a side effect).

This is something I find really weird because Lisa is excellent at Zanjutsu, and is one of the only female characters who uses Zanjutsu as her primary ability. I’m not saying anyone else’s use it, of course we’ve seen Momo and Rangiku using it. Which is strange is that Haguro Tonbo’s sealed form is a Nodachi (a long Katana). And there’s only another Nodachi in Bleach and it’s Minazuki, Unohana’s Zanpakuto, which seems to be the other female Shinigami who’s highly proficient at Zanjutsu (talking about her real creepy self). Also, and another thing to be noted, Lisa is canonically ambidextrous. And aside from double Shikais and whatnot, the only other character considered ambidextrous aside form Bleach. I had this two icons to make the example, and I know it’s really complicated to notice, but in the left one, left hand is up, and in the right one, right hand is up. (also, in the left one you can perfectly see the way the fingers in her right hand held the hilt, that’s the proper way of holding a katana -I know I’m getting too into detail with this but I practiced Iaido, and I FANGIRLED when I noticed that detail-).

5. She does whatever the Hell this is.

Which I assume is an ability of Haguro Tonbo, it’s called  Nijū Ichijō Tonbokudari, and it creates... Spikes? Piercing attacks? Look, I don’t know how the Hell happened, but if they pierced Gerard, they’re super huge. And besides, that’s the “21st Article” based on its name. So does that mean she has other 20 aside from that? It looks awesome. NOW. Is this strength really worth it to be mentioned? She does have certain skills and she was the lieutenant of one of the strongest Captains the Gotei had, who also, as I explained in another analysis, respects his Lieutenant’s strength and considers it remarkable (or he wouldn’t have sent her in a rescue mission with a Captain group). But she doesn’t have her Captain’s respect but also other superiors. When Kensei went Berserker, Lisa was the first one to set a strategy, which Rose agreed and rolled with right away. One thing is her own Captain, but when other Captains acknowledge her skills and, essentially treat her as an equal, make me think,  with no doubt, Lisa was Captain-level during the past arc. Otherwise she wouldn’t have been there in the first place.  And of course, this is confirmed when at the end of Bleach, she earns a place as Captain. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen her having a real fight, and we probably never will. But I’m still looking forward to keep enhancing those perks she has.

Fhoiewh I feel like I might need a tag for this AU we are getting SERIOUS here and I LOVE IT (part 1, part 2)

OK Magnus owns at least three pairs of doc martens which Ragnor tells him is far too many but Ragnor is WRONG. They need to match the outfits Magnus comes up with. Magnus owns a good number of clothes because he knows the best second hand and thrift shops. He then makes the outfits into something closer to the current fashion. I also need to say Magnus and leggings + leg warmers? That is his lounging around the apartment and doing the laundry outfit and he looks AMAZING. Alec trips and falls the first time he sees this and Raphael laughs at him for days. (Alec just ends up spending more and more time in their apartment, Catarina is like “should we ask him to pay rent?” and Ragnor says “only if Dot does too” and then Catarina makes a face (Dot and Alec pitch in with food and cleaning and stuff so like, really ends up being no harm no foul. Sometimes they are better roommates than their SOs, which Ragnor will bring up and will use against Magnus and Cat.))

Do they have run-ins with the law… Probably but I also feel like I would need to do a hella lotta research to answer this in more detail. Catarina, Magnus, Dot, and Raphael’s experiences with such confrontations or run-ins of course are a lot different from Ragnor and Alec’s. They are all in an interesting place as people in academia while also kinda still being broke students. They go to protests where there are confrontations but they also gotta be careful because they don’t want to jeopardize their careers. There is definitely a lot of internal conflict of “do we stick it to the man now? Or do we wait till we are in a position with more power to make change?” Lots of late-night talking about this.

CATARINA AND DOT okay so they met when Dot started grad school (same year as Magnus, Cat, and Ragnor). She is focusing on art and art history so some of her classes overlapped with Magnus and they became friends. It wasn’t until Dot saw one of their shows by accident (she was at the same bar that night, kind of checking out the scene because she was new to NYC) that Catarina and Dot meet. AND BOY what an intro like Dot sees Catarina on the little stage near the back of the bar, singing her heart out and looking like she is having just the best time. Dot is SMITTEN because tbh who wouldn’t be? Dot is super excited to see Magnus in the band and after the show asks Magnus to introduce her to Catarina.

Cue like a month of both Dot and Catarina being disaster bis like C: “Does she really like me?” M: “Yes.” C: “But what if she only likes me as a friend?” Ragnor: “DAMN IT YOU MET HER AT A GAY BAR I AM BEGGING YOU ASK HER OUT.”

So they go out and it is fantastic and great and they date for like a year then take a break because both are so busy with school so dating is hard and it is like. Super awkward for a time but Dot ends up spending time around them again to study and she joins in their rotating meal making and… Catarina and Dot both do excited end of finals hug… kiss… yeah and then they are back together, then off during summer, then back together because they just realize they don’t actually want to date anyone else? It sticks this time much to everyone’s relief, especially Catarina and Dot’s.

And that is how a future doctor and future art teacher met and fell in love. Dot makes Catarina art, which is up on Catarina’s walls, and Catarina has definitely been a model for some of Dot’s pictures (which are… not up on the walls). Catarina will massage Dot’s wrists and shoulders when she has been hunched too long painting. They can see a very easy future together with Catarina’s surgeon’s salary supporting Dot’s art and Dot’s more flexible schedule allowing for her to help with the rest of life that would get lost if Catarina was doing this all on her own. (Also works well if they want to raise a family together, but they are not really ready to talk about that yet. But they both think about it from time to time, and know they have the same goals when it comes to such a future together.)

chapter 213 is not bad writing

so izuku got 7 different quirks, yes it sounds like a thing you’d hear from a OP deviantart OC, but let’s think this through. i know people ALWAYS complain when a character becomes OP in some way and i can understand why, i get how an OP character is bad writing. But, my hero academia already had OP characters to begin with. all might and AFO and even izuku are OP characters in some way, but horikoshi has a special way of writing his op characters:

“they’re hella op...but not really.”

horikoshi gives OP consequences to OP characters, showing that they too are vulnerable.

Izuku in some way was already OP once he got OFA, he’s OP, but the consequences are just as OP...like breaking all his bones.

now that izuku has 7 different powers, he also has 7 different consequences.

to me, that’s a fair and good way to write a OP character, that’s not bad writing. actually, it’s great writing because now we can go in deph about OFA.

We have more space to explore OFA and all the quirks within it. and as izuku discovers each quirk, he discovers more about not only each holder, but he’ll discover more about AFO, Toshinori, Nana and all the mysteries behind OFA. I think this is going to be great for the plot even is it’s OP, because we finally have a chance to get our questions about OFA answered.

Also, now these 7 quirks means that izuku has more to explore in his fighting techniques, but what im really interested in is his classmates.

Having the quirk he has (OFA) already looks crazy to the eyes of class 1A and it’s still a secret, but once izuku masters it, surely his classmates will become suspicious? what will their reactions be? especially how would bakugou react since he knows about OFA. and it seems like AFO has plans for izuku as well, so I think this makes the story much more flexible and can bring opportunities for new plot details we all want.

I’m hella behind on prompts, so it’s time to catch up!

10/18- If you had to offer one tip about success, what would it be? Prepare. Life goes so much smoother when you plan ahead. I mean this more than just meal prepping- lay your clothes out. Pack your bags. It can be something as small as making a grocery list to ensure you’re only buying what you need, to making a detailed plan on when to do laundry so you only need one pair of scrubs for your per diem!

10/19- What is one small step you can take in the next 24 hours to make 2020 better? I deep-cleaned my bedroom and have set up a new system of clothing preparations; I hung a command hook on the back of my closet so that at night, I can hang whatever clothes I’m wearing the next day and don’t have to even open my closet! This will save some time in the mornings and allow me either more time to do AM workouts... or sleep in a little hehe.

10/20- That goal you mentioned on 10/15; have you taken action on it? My goal was running more. I’ve taken minimal action on it, but I am hoping to get back on track and kick it into high gear!

10/21- Tell us about your exercise history; do you currently participate in any kind of formal exercise program / actively use a gym membership? My exercise history consists of a wide variety of over-exercising to months on end of not exercising. In middle school I played soccer and would do body-weight stuff at home. In high school I intermittently played soccer and was injured, so ti went either way. At one point my best friend and I would run together in the park and would typically do 5 miles in an hour or so. In college I was an athlete, then for years after college I didn’t work out. I started going to my currently gym (a specialty gym) in 2016 and have been mostly consistent (except the last few weeks due to traveling for work and sickness). I have a regular gym routine that consists of Sunday-Friday workouts of cycle, kickboxing, weight lifting, and barre.

10/22- What are some exercises you want to try “some day”? Honestly, I want to get better at lifting. The gym I go to is a specialty gym so there aren’t any lifting machines, and the free weights are extremely limited. Everything is class-style as well. My plan is to continue to at my current gym and routine until the new year, and then add in a membership to the Big Sky gym near me. I want to get over the holiday slump... and take advantage of the new year deals.

10/23-Do you balance your exercises across the different disciplines (strength, cardio, flexibility?) Sure do! I lift weights, do barre, kickboxing, cycle, and am trying to do more running.

10/24- How do you balance exercise with all the other demands on your time? I made it a priority! It helps that most of the classes are in the AM before work, but not always! I deliberately will stay up an extra 30 minutes or get up 15 minutes early if I am behind on something such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc to ensure that I have time to workout. I also built it into my schedule, IE I never schedule things on Monday nights unless I absolutely have to because I go to spin. It helps that I am a super morning person so most of my weekend plans happen after the classes, but I also work exercise into specialty activities if they happen to take over my gym time. If I know I am missing Sunday kickboxing class for something else, I try to do a lot of laundry Saturday to get a bunch of stairs in. 

10/25- What is one exercise tip you would offer to the community? Find something you like! I’ve tried yoga a bunch of times because everyone always seems obsessed... I hate it! I’ve never been a huge fan of running but I found a great playlist/channel on Spotify that helps me get into it.

10/26- How are motivation and exercise tied together for you? If I’m not motivated, it’s usually not a great workout. However, you can’t always be motivated 24/7 and sometimes a bad workout, as long as it is safe, is better than no workout. If I’m feeling unmotivated I just try to do the best I can and say tomorrow I will double the effort!

Scum and Villainy, I think, just based off the consistent quality of the resulting play, but shoutout to Futura Free for working incredibly well to produce the only actually gripping, listenable turn-based finale FATT has ever done. 

Favourite divine (or Divine) character?

Hee hee hee. No uh, it’s… it’s just Liberty & Discovery, in the past three years I haven’t changed at all. Order and Detachment are runner-ups, then probably Belgard. I also have a soft spot for Anticipation, which I know is not Encouraged By The Text, but it’s hard for me not to find her a little sympathetic, and I was glad of the surprisingly gentle ending given. Twilight Mirage was such an odd season for consolatios that happen to also take the form of “eternal Sisyphean frenzy.” I mean, I guess when I put it like that it’s not THAT odd

(that said, with TM I was probably as or more interested in Polyphony and the other axioms, not least because they reminded me of of C/W-era divines than the divines did, har)

At what point did you realize you liked the show?

sdgjsldgjs I started with C/W, and honestly I dug the intro and found the tablefriends’ rapport enticing from the outset, but I didn’t get into the narrative proper until “The bells are ringing!” Just. Aria Joie, child of my heart, in the industrial robotics warehouse with the tag “perforated”

Name one thing you like about each member of the cast.

I hope you wanted the essay! Actually most of these are what you said but wordier.

Ali: Ali has a knack for really memorable scenes. Part of it is that she’s willing to play emotional states as serious external events, with the power to override established motives. I think most of the cast are good at tracking characters’ private responses to a scene, and even at examining long-term effects of emotional detritus, but Ali stands out for her ability to weave reaction into action—thinking here of Hella killing Calhoun half out of shame and pity because, once he challenges her, she can’t de-escalate; also Aria at the end of her slaphappy rope asking Jacqui out; also frazzled Tender. 

Andi: I like that Andi tries on a lot of different hats, and seems pretty smart and flexible about playing off other PCs/chasing new, specific dynamics; I’ve never gotten really into an Andi character’s individual storyline, but they’re always an asset to scenes. 

Art: Art is probably my favorite roleplayer of the group, I know to your shock; I think he’s really funny, I think he cares deeply about character logic and morality and is an influence on the extent to which the other players successfully separate themselves from their creations, and also I think he’s really funny. In contrast to Andi, he has a valuable ability to make a story About his character, not from any lack of consideration, but because the character saw themselves as the ‘main protagonist’ this whole time, with a natural, staunch self-involvement that—brought to light at just the right moment—can set the whole plot on its ears. It reveals depth without sacrificing a pure jolt of “wtf”

Austin: What does one even say about Austin… Okay, if I’m picking one thing: just that phenomenal ability to pull out details by the fistful, points of friction and mental footholds that bring to life an intact environment. He doesn’t always have complete control of scope, but when he does, it’s amazing to watch him slide from the big picture to the immediate, intimate, honeycombed space for action—and juggle intersecting PC trajectories to boot. GOD I want to relisten to C/W.

Dre: I’ve never been able to warm up to Dre as a player, because his characters often exist in unselfconscious isolation from the rest of the cast, without having the depth to support a solo storyline. I would be interested in his attempts to feel out the selfish, amoral violence of action hero archetypes, except it seems to have no consequences beyond (once or twice) a limp telling-off. 

Jack: I almost find it easier to talk about what frustrates me about Jack’s playing, not because I am often frustrated by Jack, but because they’re so relentlessly brilliant that it’s hard not to take it for granted. But like. They’re super quick and nimble, they’re equally capable of improvising snappy dialogue and descriptive intensity, and if they sometimes get decision paralysis, it’s hard to hold it against them when you know they really are generating a BUNCH of great scenarios. I mean I hold it against them anyway. Unlock the gates, Jack, I want to hear the best four minutes of the episode

Janine: Janine is another one where it’s tough to choose from an embarrassment of strengths, but I will say that more than any other player she’s good at resisting the temptation to escalate, even when the mood of the group runs high; for all that I love Ali and Jack’s “race to the bottom” approach, it’s always pleasant to cut back to Janine for quality character work that builds to something greater than the sum of its parts and doesn’t hare off after each new complication. 

Keith: The exact opposite of what I said for Janine? I love that he’ll go as far as he can on a limb and then settle down to take his new home super seriously, without batting an eye, and without ever backing down on the character traits required to earn both the joke and its savage, unfunny conclusion. Fero is sand now. Keith is one of the only players who I think is at his best in Hieron, in part because the setting itself is so broken and malleable that it’s a relief just to see someone test the elastic.

A big bang of “how to” stuff

There I was again tonight forcing laughter faking smiles so I made up this long ass post for y'all!

So you a potato. Me a potato. World conquered by we potatoes. But potato need survival tips. So your brotato (get it? Bro potato?) help you out. Yay potato. Go go potato.

Study related stuff :

1. Get good grades

Catch concepts, not chapters. Your portion is most likely gonna be super vast, so it’s helpful to know a little something from every chapter rather than knowing just 50% of your syllabus.

Figure out which concepts are important and master them.

Keep all assignments completed at least 1 day before submission date. This isn’t always possible but trust me if you do this you’re guaranteeing marks for proper submission. Job done early? Proof check and add touches to enhance that essay!

Let the teachers know that you’re working hard. I actually passed math because my math teacher knew I was working super hard on my math skills. Participate in the class, gather a bunch of doubts and then dump them on your teacher when the chapter ends.

Try not to miss lectures because chances are you’ll remember that silly mnemonic your friend made up in class and get the answer correct.

Analysis of your exam type is super important. Want me to make a long ass post about it?

2. Be more productive

Having a stuydjo/bujo by your side helps hella lot.

Plan plan plan. Lists, organise lists and colour code them. Basically become Monica Geller Bing and you’re set for life.

Motivational quotes from pinterest almost make me guilty for not being productive and force me to do something.

Before starting your study session, dance around to upbeat music for like 5 minutes. You’ll see the difference I promise.

Seek out inspiration from your smart friends /tumblr friends /people you look up to by constantly reminding yourself about them. I always think of hermione granger because even randomly picturing her with books in my mind ignites that badass boss feeling complying me to study tf up.

3. Manage your time

Studyjo/bujo saves your life.

Wear a watch all the damn time, it will remind you of how much time you’re spending doing nothing. You’ll end up saving several extra minutes!

List out what you’re gonna do every hour of the day on a sticky note and refer to it when you feel lazy.

Get a super nice friend /parent /sibling who will constantly remind you to utilise your time.

Think of time as currency and pretend that it’s all a game where you need to save up as much money as you can to become a billionaire. Save up your time and become rich af.

4. Avoid procrastinating

Stduyjo/bujo again. You know the drill now.

A little bit of exercise before starting work generally works you up and sets the correct mood.

Knowing how ahead your friends are from you often makes you wanna catch up so try getting that motivation.

Set goals + rewards that actually matter to you. Maybe a face care spa day isn’t your thing but munching on a snickers bar is. Treat yo self.

Tell someone a detailed plan of what you are going to accomplish the next day. Now whenever you see that person you’ll want to prove to them that you’re doing what you promised. Or the guilt may drive you too.

Appearance related stuff :

1. Look more put together

Try the lipstick trick. There are days when you do not have the time /want to put on makeup, so just put on a lipstick that matches your outfit and you’ll automatically create an illusion of being more put together, boss af and fabulous.

Try out cheap (potato can’t afford sorry) but elegant accessories. If it’s a necklace try tucking it under the collar of your shirt and see the magic. Stick to one staple accessory that’s gonna be your trademark.

Tame that mane potato. Your hair isn’t gonna detangle itself. You gotta do it. I mean, don’t you love your hair?

Minimalistic colours rock. Some outfits never go old like flannels or white shirts or black dresses.

2. Feel beautiful

The lipstick does the trick for me.

Putting my hair in a sky high ponytail makes me feel like I’m a queen or something.

Save little compliments for yourself as reminders and when you get them you’ll feel 10x more beautiful than before.

Mind related stuff :

1. Deal with burnout/slump

Try to accomplish super tiny stuff. Break down every task into micromolecular basics.

Give yourself a ted talk. It works.

Sometimes the best way of dealing with burnout is by detoxing from the thing that caused burnout. Stay away form books and after some time you’ll actually want to study.

2. Study with slumps/mental illness

Step one is to finish homework /assignments. If you can concentrate on them, you’re good to go.

Do not take up a lot of load, just skimming through textbooks, reviewing notes, going over flashcards should do the trick.

If you desperately need to get shit done, just ignore the fact that you do not want to do it. It’s harsh on your mind but desperate times require desperate measures.

Avoid forcing yourself to study because you’ll not retain info like that.

Take it easy. But consistently. Maybe just one topic a day. But do not miss a day. A steady everyday practice goes long way in the future.

3. Strengthen self control

There are several apps that can help you with this, like forest. My top pick is the Tide app which has a gorgeous interface and super aesthetic timers with new pictures everyday. I shit you not every time I quit my pomodoro I feel the guilt of having killed 1000 puppies its worse and I avoid doing that at all costs.

If you study in your room, keep your phone in the kitchen for some time. Your lazy ass is less likely to get up and use the phone.

Switching the phone off before starting a study session works because I care for my phone like a baby and it feels horrible to switch it on and off and on and off.

Practice 30 minutes of digital detox everyday. You don’t have to study at that time, just stay away from everything that is technology. Read and book, eat a fruit, make a sandwich, paint, sing, dance, exercise. Study if you want. Just no gadgets.

4. Deal with stress

Yoga works. Potato body ain’t that flexible so just breathing exercises for a start is also enough.

Highly recommended : brain dump every night before sleeping can ensure that you’ll not stay up too late pondering over the meaning of your existence and world politics.

Having a hearty talk with someone you trust will also lift weight off your chest.

Pin point the cause of your stress and annihilate the problem. Slay it.

Life related stuff :

1. Drink more water

Carry a cool ass bottle of water with you every frigging where.

Make it a rule to have a drink everytime you go to the loo or you take a bath /shower.

Replace one of your daily caffeines /sugars with water. You don’t have to get rid of coffee because that’s just non potato ish, but maybe that third cup could be replaced with water.

Try a game thingy. Maybe everytime the word ‘procrastination’ pops in your mind take a drink. Wow, I’m so creative *sighs for eternities*.

2. Be more healthy

5 minute stretches right after getting up works you up.

Try one of those YouTube videos of 15 minute workouts. You can have 3 such workouts through the day and call yourself a fit potato.

Replacing one packet of junk food with nuts/fruits also works.

Everytime you hear someone say something related to money, have a banana. Random much? Nope, bananas are known to increase hormones that make you happy in your body, meaning you’ll feel full and happy. Maybe offer the person a banana too.

3. Be more happy

Eat bananas!

Take pictures of things you love, not things your followers love.

Puppies are a source of eternal joy.

Reading goofy/cheesy/romance books make you giggle and feel good in general.

Watching cheesy films or good ass romcoms works just well.

Friends was created for a reason.

Writing down what you accomplished today gives a sense of pride and satisfaction. Take that shit.

Tumblr has shitposts made basically to make you happy.

4. Find your true calling /figuring tf out what you wanna do with your life

Lists lists lists. Subjects you love, you hate, you’re good at, you suck at.

Consulting your teachers, family etc and find out what they think you’re good at. Sometimes other people can see traits of yours better than you.

Career tests rock.

You’ll figure it out in the end somehow.
