What do you think of Hylia? I’ve seen fans paint her as the true villain of Zelda series. Many of which blame her for the reincarnation cycle, and pretty much every bad thing that happened after SkSw’s era.

I have strong feelings about the fandom’s treatment of Hylia, but I’m gonna try to keep this chill.

Long story short, the hatred for Hylia doesn’t make logical sense.

It’s based on the erroneous assumption that Hylia caused the curse (fun fact, if people bothered playing the game they’d see that it was Demise who did it), or it’s based on botw Zelda’s struggles and frustrations because the story is told from her point of view. Oh no!! Hylia is evil because she didn’t listen as Zelda pleaded!! That’s not how prayer works, guys. You don’t get what you want, you get what you need, and Zelda’s major issue stemmed from her father, the pressure on her, her own insecurities, her lack of training and guidance. It’s a two way street to make things work - for all we know Hylia was trying to reach out to her but Zelda couldn’t hear her over the beratement from Rhoam screaming in her head or the whispers of the people echoing in her brain or her own questioning if she could even do it.

So basically, fandom’s Hylia bashing is based on poorly thought out arguments. Also they use characters who don’t even know who she is??? Like, Time, Legend… they have no freaking clue who Hylia is, guys. Her character didn’t even exist when their games were made. Maybe people are trying to make continuity or something, but Hylia was never mentioned in those eras.

Now! Did Hylia do questionable things? Yeah! Yeah, she did! But you know what else she did? She sacrificed herself multiple times to save her people, she fought her own war to protect everyone and the Triforce. She sent people to Skyloft to protect them while fighting alongside those who likely chose to remain. She died in her battle against Demise. She planned on coming back as a mortal, giving up everything she is, so she could finish the job and eliminate the threat. Yes, she used Link - she took a calculated risk, choosing someone with a pure heart who had the fighting prowess necessary if the need arose, and she befriended him. Yes! She used him! It’s messed up! But she also did everything she could to guide and protect him, and she tried to just do it herself without him if she could.

All that being said, sometimes Hylia bashing makes sense in the context of the narrative and the narrator. If your character/narrator has a beef with her for some reason, then yeah, they’re gonna criticize her. Doesn’t make them right about her. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But the idea of the fandom vilifying her is just… stupid.

Sometimes I don’t think it has to do with the stories at all, it’s people venting frustrations they’ve had with religious groups. I can’t fault them for that, but when I see that connection it kind of feels like a smack in the face and really freaking hurts, because God and Christianity aren’t people’s bad experiences, but I’m not opening that can of worms. I can’t control everyone’s experiences and nobody wants to hear me say that just because a person or group of people acted like hateful morons doesn’t mean that’s what Christianity is about. So anyway.

I like Hylia. Demise caused the curse. Hylia was trying to stop him before he even had a chance to utter a word. Demise’s curse led to bad things happening.

I very often wish I was a costume designer. Or a stylist or a photographer. I’ve always been obsessed with fashion history and jewelry and costuming. Sometimes I’ll see, like, photo shoots of women from India in traditional cloths and get a little jealous honestly. He’s also just curious what you’re going to ask for. In his mind, the assumption is it’ll turn into a shopping trip or him getting food for you, but if the challenge gives him an excuse to dedicate himself to pleasing you beyond that? Oh darn 🤷🏻‍♀️ Seonghwa’s the same, very romantic and he’ll probably briefly turn it into some goofy role play of a butler in love with a prince(ss) 🥲 but really he just loves seeing you happy. If you ask him to do something he enjoys too he’ll melt because it’s YOUR challenge and you still want him included 🥹 so down to give you the full spa treatment so take advantage!!! He’s so giving *ahem* in every way, so saying yes to whatever it is you want will surely be his pleasure. He too imagines what you might request and gets really surprised and big eyed if he’s far off hehe~ Hongjoong is a little less ‘at the drop of a hat’ as the other two, but he’s a spoiler for sure 💅🏻 down to buy you whatever you ask for and really takes the whole concept as a challenge. He’s proving himself worthy a little in his mind, so half of him is like ‘whatever you want my love’ and the other half is like ‘come on, ask me for ANYTHING, see that I’ll do it’. Will tease you especially if you request anything you’re shy about or that you feel is too much, either asking you to repeat it or just getting a shit eating grin/smirk on his face 😏 anything he gets you will probably be the most cool/extra version and any treatment requested will be dialed to eleven on the romance, like you want a new outfit? Designer 😌 want a massage? Full candles and rose petals.

Wooyoung is also down to please, but he lowkey gets a little jealous and wants a turn! Like he’ll perform for you all day long, but would love it if you showed him something back. That’s about the only downside, though: he may try to influence your decisions or teasingly ask if you want something he just wants to do or give you, especially if it’s anything relaxing or intimate. Just let him join in and he’ll be happy! He’ll also buy you whatever and if you go out have a hand on you all the time because this day is all about showing off that you’re his! Yunho is down for this, though he jokes for you not to abuse it. He doesn’t fully understand it, asking if you’re not satisfied or doesn’t he do this already? But he’ll indulge you, especially if he gets some enjoyment out of it 😉 Being a gentleman, he likes paying for you already, so the day is a win in his mind as a chance to take you out and share only the best of meals. The best model, too, like feel free to use the outing as a chance to dress him up, he’ll work it and look great while making you laugh with his ridiculous poses! Jongho is also a bit skeptical, like it seems kinda excessive in his mind so he shakes his head at it. But at the same time, he’s very giving to those he loves and trusts when he wants to be, and you’re his exception for all the romance and affection. He can’t stop shaking his head and laughing at your requests, but he does them with no complaints…but teasing for sure! Will gladly sing for you if that’s what you want, we all know that! He considers himself a romantic, so like Hongjoong he’s going to go all out on very traditionally romantic versions of what you ask for, especially more intimate requests!

Yeosang is lowkey like why should I? Mostly joking, he just is confused why he’s becoming your butler like did he do something wrong? No, it’s just a challenge? He is very clear that he doesn’t want to get requested to do anything super cringey. Teases you if you want him to sing or dance for you, like don’t you see that enough? But ends up melting if you just ask for extra cuddles or attention, a big smile crossing his face at the thought that you could have anything and that’s what you want most. Gets softer as the day goes on and is down for whatever end to the day even if he has ideas. Mingi is highkey scared, like what are you going to make him do??? And what if he doesn’t want to do it? Secretly he likes being the one in charge, though he can’t deny his love for your smile and your pleasure. He just wants to do it on his own and not feel forced to do it. It’ll feel more real and not like he’s your butler. But how much he warms up depends on your requests, whether he’s at your beck and call or you want to spend the day in bed, dote on him back. If it’s more the latter he is sold, reverting to the total yes man and forgetting all that it has to be authentic stuff 🫡

Amren’s character is so underdeveloped I feel like what we know we’re supposed to just go purely off vibes— she’s super mega old and she was this powerful being so therefore she can be a jerk and that’s it— but what are the qualities that make Amren Amren aside from just the bitchy blunt old lady? There is none which make her hardly a character at all. Acosf was just so painful to read because it seemed like a book that insisted on doing nothing but holding a tally mark on all the things ‘Nesta did’ but swept anything from other characters actions under the rug or even justified them. There’s a huge difference in Nesta refusing Amren’s suggestion about training then feeling betrayed (the barge argument) vs Amren calling her a waste of life and this whole scene you reminded me of where I believe she replied to Nesta saying Nesta doesn’t even know the meaning of the word friend. Are we going to hear anything about that? Maybe a punishment hike and a kneeling scene for Amren? 🙄 not to mention a huge complaint I have in this scene is that it could have been a great one on one for both of them but ofc sjm had to take the left turn and have Feyre walk in and then the whole scene was scrapped in favor of making Nesta look like the big evil and run off 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ but that’s beside the point.

Its ironic to me that Amren answered Nesta that way when she’s the one throughout acosf insisting on manipulating and using Nesta, was she even really a friend? But remember she’s old and she just became fae so we must understand where Amren is coming from. We must read between the lines and just let Amren be Amren *sarcasm*

In the end, to me, Amren is almost non existent and when she is she’s just awful. I thought we might see a little more about her background with the hofas crossover but 🤷🏻‍♀️ the most I can say is the relationship her and Nesta had during acowar was interesting but that’s where it starts and ends.

So uh... I haven't started grinding out the Yokai Event yet. Mainly because I've already done it on my Main and Main-alt and I'm trying to finish up other things, but I do intend to do it for Yuki (my catboi, aka Mari's brother).

There's also some complaints on various social media platforms that BLUs are roflstomping (for lack of a better term 😋) all of the FATEs with their 2-skills and to let them do their thing for a period of time until things return to "normal". (I don't play BLU so... 🤷🏻‍♀️)

I just wanted to throw this out there (Kaiyoko's Guide from Twitter):

A friend of mine and I were trying to recall all the details of this event from when it was last ingame. There was some confusion around a specific detail and it's happening again now. It was all across Reddit last time, but this time I'm seeing it across Twitter, lol.

When you FATE grind in each respective zone/map, you need to have that Minion summoned/out in order to receive medals.

It's hard for me to remember because it was so long ago, but I believe what I did was- I just bought all of the minions in one go. Like, a wee bit of extra FATE grinding really wasn't going to kill me 🙃. (That's 49 medals, because the first minion is 1, and after that they cost 3. Unless they added more minions?)

The alternative is, you can get the first minion and then continuously return to the gold saucer and buy the necessary minion before you go to each zone. Just don't forget, lol 😅

For most zones, you can plan ahead. Like... Outer La Noscea: Blizzaria, USApyon, Noko (can all get Tokens from that map). That's 3 minions you can do on 1 map. So if you bought all 3, you wouldn't have to change maps, you can just FATE grind there and swap out your minions when you get the amount of medals you need. If that make sense? (I know my phrasing is awful sometimes)

(10 Tokens per weapon, except for the first weapon which is 5)

Another example would be, Central Thanalan: Komajiro, Shogunyan, and Jibanyan.

I’ve been seeing so many complaints about Jin not having enough backstory and that he’s too flat, and I’m curious to know your thoughts. I personally think he’s very developed and believe that a character should be able to stand by their current actions without needing flashbacks to explain them.

We know that he is a kind and gentle person who held (and still holds) idealistic notions, and that he effed up real bad with taking the video, and has been feeling guilty and haunted ever since. We know that he develops feelings deeply for people but always makes sure that they reciprocate. We know that he doesn’t like uncertainty when emotions are involved and wants clear communication and has a bit of a jealous streak. We know that when placed in physically dangerous situations, he will jump in immediately to defend and help people. We know that he loves photography and honestly a lot can be explained by his having an artistic soul.

I guess a recent example I’ve seen of a character that’s very developed with absolutely no flashback backstory is Tong’s character Hong from ManSuang. Obviously very different context and character but I loved how much we knew about his essence as a character and person without needing scenes about his childhood and how he grew up.

Anyway sorry for the length, and thank you for your wonderful DFF thoughts and analyses!

Thank you for sending this ask 💕 I've been thinking a lot about this too, honestly. I have some mixed, complex thoughts lol so let me try and explain them.

Firstly, I agree with you that we get a lot of Jin throughout his actions. I fully disagree with people who say that Jin is flat, or that he doesn't have impact on the narrative, or that he's a side character. Jin's always been a very central main piece of the plot. He's the everyman, reacting to the bullying the way most average people would. Acting selfishly and selflessly by turns. He's the catalyst that drove them into the woods. He's the only person who feels guilt and carries the weight of the past (among the bullies). He tries to be a good person, and fucks up bad by turns.

And as you said, we get tons of personality from Jin throughout his actions. He's naive and idealistic. He associates sex and feelings strongly. He falls hard and fast. He lives in a large house but clearly has no one checking on him when he comes home late or brings a boy over to stay the night. He shows signs of emotional neglect and unhealthy attachments. He has fits of anger which lead him to do bad things he feels awful about for years afterwards.

He calls himself a coward but when faced with a weapon he jumps in front of it to try and protect his friends.

There are a lot of shadows to his character that paint a full picture, to me. I don't find his character to be flat at all, in fact Jin is still one of my favorite characters because of all of this.

However, I do understand why people are disappointed. Because while we do see large pieces of Jin's character, when you compare him to characters like Non and Tee, where we see their home lives and motivations in detail, Jin definitely looks flat in comparison. I was also hoping that we'd get insight into Jin's home life and learn why he is the way he is, like we did with some of the others. And we didn't (and won't) get that. And that's definitely disappointing.

Especially since today, in a Space on Twitter, Sammon said she regrets not writing Jin in more detail and she views that as a failing. I think that's one reason people are being so negative about Jin's character right now.

BUT, I personally think people are entirely overblowing it all. Jin is a very interesting, complex, gray, sympathetic character in so many ways, even if we don't get that extra layer of depth. Especially given that one of the reasons we have less of Jin is because he does less terrible shit within the narrative as some of the others, I'm a bit 🤷🏻‍♀️ about it all.

Anyway! Thanks again for the ask, it was a good excuse for me to actually formulate my thoughts!

I don’t think he’s a saint by any stretch of the imagination, and should he happen to choose to do something stupid, I certainly wouldn’t defend that behavior.

Hellooo hellooo! So I did not expect two chapters in rapid succession but no complaints here!

About the latest ODAM chapter; this made me wonder, does Alys have romantic feelings for Aemond? Or is the tension between her and Maera due to the fact that Maera challenges her? I mean if her confidence in the war room is anything to go by, it seems she’s not used to having her decisions questioned. Or at the very least, she can shut them up because she can reason that she’s seen things. But it also made me think about how Maera’s being there might reveal that she’s not as omniscient as she makes herself out to be. Her prophecy may work for the lord and to Aemond at one point, but I think Maera is the type that sees through the smoke and mirrors.

A part of me is desperately wishing that she does make a prophecy and the opposite happened- Maera gets vindicated! I’m also happy that Maera’s demonstrating she’s not someone to be messed with and can put these lords in their place.

It’s nice to see Aemond trying, like when he proposed to speak with Alys regarding her conduct. But, Maera is right, only time will indeed tell. As for me, I need to see how he acts later on and whether Alys will try anything. I think Maera was right to asset her status and dominance when they were discussing strategies because had she allowed Alys to go about as she wished, I’m sure Alys would have taken this as a sign that Maera yields to her and the other lords as well. I just can’t help but huff to myself “the nerve of Alys”, I’m genuinely curious as to how she thinks Maera should act around her. Should Maera also be starstruck or fall at her feet because she has visions? Or should she be grateful Maera married Aemond and is now a princess? Should she just ignore the fact that she slept with Aemond?? I’m 🤷🏻‍♀️right now

And the Aemond POV!! Thank you so much for writing it!! It’s nice to take a peek into his mind and see how his connection with Maera started. I liked how there is a distinction between their POVs because little Aemond pre-Vhagar sounded melancholy but still hopeful. Like I could tell he still holds out hope and he’s not hardened yet, so to speak.

BL was already on the sex offenders reguster when Evan stared to work with. Parents in their town had reported Lambs boy model website to the police and had been told that because he kept it just the right side of legal there was nothing they could do.

Why would any vigilant parent allow that man near their child regardless of whether they were always present or not?

It is much more likely that Lamb groomed Evan to keep things from his parents so they weren't aware than it is they thought their son working with a convicted paedo was cool so long as they were present.

Abusers also groom parents as well as children to earn their trust which is another way they get away with it.

i’m glad someone else said this because i have said the same thing in the past, and no - i am not attacking his parents nor insinuating any dubious intent. i’m merely stating the fact that there is no situation in which parents should allow adults access to their children without fully background checking AND ensuring they are not ever alone. i have issues with the very premise of children in the entertainment industry because of this. BL was a convicted sex offender before he ever met evan and his family.

personally, any man whose career is photographing kids, i am looking sideways at them. 🤷🏻‍♀️ and i’m not a parent but i especially wouldn’t let any male photographer around any kids i love or care about and am responsible for.
