On Tuesday afternoon, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her plans to open an official impeachment inquiry against President Trump. Although she and others in House leadership positions have resisted opening formal impeachment proceedings for months, a deluge of new calls from more moderate members of her party may have cemented her decision to move forward.
More than two-thirds of the Democratic caucus now favor beginning an impeachment investigation in response to allegations that Trump attempted to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky into investigating former Vice President Joe Biden, and may have threatened to withhold foreign aid.
This is a huge change from the end of July, when we last checked in on where impeachment stood among House Democrats. At that point, just a few days after special counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony before two House committees about his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 campaign, 109 Democrats were in support of impeachment. Granted, more than half of House Democrats have been in favor of impeachment since early August, but that number has now risen to 179, according to the New York Times,1 which means a solid majority of the Democratic caucus now supports impeachment.
Of course, a lot could depend on how the next few days unfold — in particular, whether the White House turns over the transcript of Trump’s July 25 call with Zelensky or the whistleblower complaint (which the administration has so far refused to share with Congress, despite a subpoena). After all, some moderates have hedged saying they’d support impeachment if the allegations prove true. But if the accusations against Trump are borne out, the remaining Democratic holdouts could face increasing pressure to support the impeachment inquiry — for one thing, Democrats are still short of the 218 votes they need for an impeachment resolution.
So how did we get here? The dramatic uptick in support for impeachment since July is due to two main shifts. First, during the August recess, a steady trickle of Democrats announced their support for impeachment, perhaps in response to pressure from people in their districts. And second, in just the past few days, dozens of Democrats have lined up in support of an impeachment inquiry for the first time, including a significant number from red and purple districts that Clinton either lost or won by 10 points. In fact, more than half of the Democrats who recently joined the pro-impeachment column come from districts that Democrats lost or won by less than 10 percentage points. These are the members who have the most at stake electorally if an impeachment inquiry backfires against Democrats, so their support is especially noteworthy.

This means the base of support for impeachment has become more ideologically diverse. For instance, if we look at the districts where House members now support impeachment, Trump lost these districts in 2016 by around 31 percentage points. But in July, his average loss in these pro-impeachment districts was 38 percentage points, showing that members from more moderate districts have joined the cause. (For reference, Trump lost the average Democratic-held seat by 28 percentage points, and he lost the districts of Democratic members who are currently not supporting impeachment by an average of 18 percentage points.)
And while some moderates have been careful to say their support is conditional on the allegations being true, some potentially vulnerable Democrats seem to be in favor of an impeachment inquiry regardless of what happens next. For example, Rep. Antonio Delgado, who represents a district in upstate New York that Trump won by 7 points in 2016, said that asking the Ukrainian president to investigate Biden was “in itself an impeachable offense.”
The new supporters for impeachment also include a significant number of Democrats from very liberal districts who had previously resisted calls for impeachment. As the table below shows, only 18 Democrats from very liberal districts continue to oppose (or remain undecided/refuse to comment) on impeachment — down significantly from the end of July:

Some recent switchers from the more liberal camp include Georgia civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis, a Pelosi ally who called for impeachment proceedings in a dramatic speech on the House floor on Tuesday, and Rep. Debbie Dingell of Michigan, who had previously argued that impeachment would “tear the country apart.” It seems that for many of these Democrats, the gravity and scale of the allegations against Trump finally outweighed concerns about whether an impeachment push without bipartisan support would be too divisive, or if it would be useless to impeach Trump given that Senate Republicans are highly unlikely to vote to remove him from office. (Although there was a flicker of bipartisan energy in the Senate on Tuesday evening, when a nonbinding resolution calling on the Trump administration to release the whistleblower complaint passed unanimously.)
Opposition to impeachment among Democrats from red and blue districts has also fallen over the past few days, but there are still a significant number who do not represent very liberal districts and who haven’t yet endorsed an impeachment inquiry. Of the 64 Democrats from districts that Hillary Clinton won or lost by 10 points or fewer in 2016, more than half now support impeachment. That’s more than twice as many than at the end of July, but a sizeable chunk still haven’t gotten on board. And as the table below shows, many of these Democrats hail from districts that Clinton lost:

Some of these Democrats may remain wary of embracing impeachment — and that could be tricky for House leadership down the road, if they do decide to pursue an impeachment resolution. But the fact that Democrats like Delgado, Rep. Elissa Slotkin, and Rep. Abigail Spanberger, who are all from districts that Trump won by 7 points in 2016, are newly supporting impeachment could embolden other moderates to join them.
Regardless of what happens next, it’s clear that the political ground on impeachment has shifted dramatically among Democrats in a very short period of time. Even Biden, who previously said that impeachment proceedings would be a “giant distraction,” said that the House should move forward with impeachment if the Trump administration refuses to turn over information about the call with the Ukrainian president. And as FiveThirtyEight’s editor in chief, Nate Silver, wrote Tuesday, pursuing impeachment is a big risk for the Democrats, considering how unpopular it remained throughout the course of the Mueller investigation. But for the first time, the vast majority of House Democrats seem willing to take that risk.

Q: What’s your name?
A: My name is Leah.
Q: How old are you?
A: 25
Q: How long have you been roleplaying?
A: Almost 7 years, with breaks. The last break I took was about two years ago and I’ve only recently gotten back into rps, so I might be a little bit rusty.
Q: Do you prefer paras or short one liners?
A: Honestly, it’s a mixture of both. I looooooove writing long and lengthy responses, but if my partner prefers shorter interactions, I can  get into it
Q: How often are you online?
A: Between work and real life stuff, not gonna lie, it’s probably every other day. But, I will reply to everything when I’m on. If I forget you, all you have to do is let me know.
Q: Preferred genres to rp?
A: Any of them, really. I lean heavily towards friendships / platonic, fluff/ smut though. Love writing fluff and smut, if you check my personal out soon, I’ll share a little that I’ve  written on there.
Q: Willing to rp with anyone outside your chosen fandom?
A: Babes, I will rp with anyone who asks. Anyone. If I don’t know about your fandom, that’s what the good old internets are for, right? I’ll do my research going into it.
Q: What are your triggers?
A: I have to say non con & rape like situations, incestuous / significant age difference relationships, abuse, – which I will occasionally still rp, and addiction, – which I will also still rp, just not in excess. Suicide is also a bit of a trigger for me, but I understand that some muses get down and they have depression and it can’t be avoided. I just won’t have my muses participating in negativity relating to addictions or suicide ( enabling and pushing another muse to commit suicide ). Also, I won’t have my muses in non consensual situations or incestuous ones or situations in which they’re abusing another muse emotionally or physically. Having said all this, some of my muses ( the original ones ) do have pasts that aren’t exactly clean / pure.  So basically, my hardlines are non con sex, incest. As long as you don’t want a plot about either thing, we’re good.
Q: Do you have any desired ships or opposites?
A: As far as desired ships, here ya go! The muses in italics are the ones I’ll be playing. These are ships I really want to try out! If you have one of the desired opposites, definitely hit me up!

Q:Any undesired ships?
A: Aghh, I really hate answering this because I feel as if someone, somewhere, will be offended or feel attacked. But, I do have a few and here they are..
Dean Ambrose + AJ Lee
Dean Ambrose + Renee
AJ Lee + CM Punk
Lana + Rusev
Nikki + John Cena
Maryse + Miz
Kaitlyn + whoever she married
Eva + her SO
Eve Torres + her husband.
I’d like to note that the reason I’m anti – rping the above are because one is a ship I dislike (Dean + AJ) and the others are simply because the duos are already together IRL and I’m really just not interested in rping them as a couple online too. It sounds harsh but it’s the truth.
Q: Any undesired fcs or fcs you won’t RP with?
A: Honestly, no there aren’t. I have preferences, as stated above, but I’m generally open to anyone.
⏭ THE RULES & OTHER NEED TO KNOW STUFF ⏮
All of my muses are straight, no exception. It’s nothing against different sexualities, I just cannot write f/f or m/m and I know it’ll be like an accident waiting to happen if I try it again. I used to attempt writing it all the time and it wasn’t ever very good at all.
I ship on chemistry so please do not force a ship on me. You can ask about shipping our characters and given that I’m a ship whore the answer will most likely be a yes. But don’t just assume that will always be the case, IE, I play Dean Ambrose and I’d prefer not to ship with Renees unless there is excellent actual chemistry. Just because our characters are together on screen or people fan ship them, that doesn’t mean I will. I will ship with both canon muses and original ones, often preferring the latter over the former in all honesty.
We don’t have to be mutuals for you to tag one of my muses in a para or throw a starter out at them through my ask box or come into my dms to rp. I do ask that you specify what muse(s) you’re interested in beforehand because it makes my lazy life so much easier. If you don’t specify a muse I will pick one of my own choosing and I’m fairly sure that you won’t be happy with the choice because I suck at trying to match muse with muse. If you see a starter I’ve posted that you want to throw a muse in, do it. You don’t even have to ask. If you want to come into my inbox and discuss plotting with me, go for it. I’m open to any and all kinds of interactions, from friendships to family ships, especially relationships and even enemy ships. All that I ask is that you extend the same courtesy to me.
Limit of muses / potential ships we can have going at one time is 3. I put a limit on it so that we don’t get overwhelmed by paras back and forth. I have so many muses that honestly, I don’t think you’ll have a problem picking from them all.
I will rp smut. I will not rp smut with minors and all the smut I write will be tagged & placed under a read more so that it’s not just sitting out there on the dash.
I use minimal formatting, occasional uses of gifs / icons. I strikethrough things I don’t want your muse to react to / know about and I italicize thoughts. “Speech” is in quotations. This should clear up any misconceptions about what’s what in my replies. I do not expect the same of you, just do what’s going to make you comfortable. If you need me to change my formatting / gifs, icons, etc in any way, let me know and I’ll gladly do so.
Replies can take a while at times, but if I’m not going to be on, I’ll generally let my RP partners know before just vanishing unless I just can’t. If you haven’t gotten a reply from me, let me know because chances are, I overlooked/lost it in my notifications. For whatever reason, I can’t DM but
people can send me DMS, so drop me one.

Starring Richard Dean Anderson and ???
I live alone and often use my TV as a “voice,” something to keep my mind off the fact the cat can’t answer me. Sometimes I choose A&E, depending on what’s on, but frequently I start my day tuned to Canada’s Space channel, which airs Andromeda and Stargate SG1 on weekday mornings. I like this combo because Andromeda’s cast features 3 women getting things done: Lexa Doig, Lisa Ryder, and Laura Bertram and, of course, Amanda Tapping is part of the SG1 team.
At the end of each Stargate episode is a promo for another episode. It could be an episode which put the whole team in jeopardy or one which featured heavily Daniel Jackson, Teal’c or Samantha Carter, Tapping’s character. Nonetheless, at the end of each promo, the announcer tags: “On the next Stargate SG1, starring Richard Dean Anderson.”
I know this was probably the work of a hired promotional team and I know Richard Dean Anderson meant a lot to the success of the show. But I also know Carter went from Captain at the beginning to Colonel later on when she appeared on Stargate Atlantis. She was a scientist, a soldier, a daughter, and a pretty badass person to have by your side.
In season 1′s Solitudes, O’Neill and Carter are stranded in a frozen wasteland. He’s injured and she is the one who, on their end, tries to find a way out. Also in season 1, in the episode In The Line Of Duty, the character of Carter is featured heavily when she ends up inhabited by a Goa’uld named Jolinar and this experience is weaved through the rest of the series’ run. It pops up a little in the two-part episode The Tok’ra when both Samantha and her father Jacob help establish an important alliance.
My favorite Carter-centric episodes came in later seasons, like season 5′s Ascension, which featured Tapping opposite Sean Patrick Flanery as a mysterious alien named Orlin.  Carter and her link to Jolinar were also featured in season 5′s Desperate Measures. In season 7′s Space Race, Carter is recruited for her immense scientific knowledge to help an alien friend win a competition. One of my favorite episodes also comes in season 7 and is called Grace, where Carter is essentially alone on the Prometheus after an accident. Tapping really ran the gauntlet in that episode. In the first part of The Fourth Horseman, Carter is reunited with Orlin, who returns to Stargate Command in a different form.
For any of those episodes it would have been great to hear....”starring Richard Dean Anderson and Amanda Tapping.” I like sci-fi as a general rule, but I like the genre better when the series or movie features a woman (or more than one) inhabiting a powerhouse character. So I celebrate Lexa Doig, Lisa Ryder, Laura Bertram, Amanda Tapping, Jewel Staite, Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Rachel Luttrell, Hannah John-Kamen, Melissa O’Neal, Zoie Palmer, Jodelle Ferland, and you should too.
ETA: Almost forgot the episode where Carter is trapped on a planet and trying to evade one of the super soldiers, which must have been a physically demanding episode for Tapping. But I can’t find it in the episodes list. I know it is definitely after The Tok’ra as Jacob figures heavily into the search for Carter.
