My mom’s a general audience member in her sixties. Doesn’t read articles. Doesn’t watch interviews. Had NO spoilers. A very casual watcher. She once said “they’re not gay” when I told her about how “some gay people” (hi, yeah, me but she doesn’t know I ship nor that I’m bi) ship Buck and Eddie as buddie.
Here’s her thoughts:
Helicopter scene: “huh. Interesting.” Then about Tommy “who’s that guy? I remember him from last episode, but who is he?”
Sewer scene: “that’s funny. That’s cute.” About Buck watching Chris. She also was confused about Eddie suddenly having another car that’s not his truck. She thinks Ravi is adorable and funny.
Maddie and Buck at home: “so he’s jealous, what can you do?” “There’s nothing you can do.” “I don’t know why Buck is at Maddie’s house… I know they’re siblings.” “What’s the big deal, so what? Eddie has a new best friend, you can have many best friends.”
After pressing about Tommy: “He’s not gay, is he?” I said: You can’t just ask someone if they’re gay. “They’re getting really buddy-buddy”
Amazon prime scene: when Buck was doing the weights, she was mumbling something that looked like “no. Stupid. No” (we’re on FaceTime and only unmute on commercial breaks). She thought the Prime ad was funny. “Apparently the other guy (she means Eddie) isn’t interested.” “Buck is going to be lonely if he doesn’t find another friend to play, that’s all.” “I thought he was gonna kill himself with the bar weights.” “He’s not gonna come to your rescue, dude.” “He wanted his friend to spot him and look at him, not the other guy (Ravi).” “But Eddie’s busy with Tony.” (Yes she said Tony.)
She’s more invested in the mom shooting her son and Harry and Athena than I want her to be. I need her to be IN THESE BISEXUAL BUCK TRENCHES. Also is this my coming out moment lmao? I’m just gonna say I like his acting.
Basketball: “that was a killer move. He had so much anger and he wanted to really hurt him and he did.” “He’s jealous! And they were winning!” (Huh, they were winning.) “it’s all about the bonding, the guy things. He’s jealous, that’s all there is to it.” “And sooner or later, Eddie isn’t going to want to be around Buck, he’s gonna want to be around Tommy.” I asked her about the song that was playing, she didn’t hear it. Rewatched the scene to hear the song. Song thoughts: “oh there was music.” I bet she won’t understand the words. I was right, verbatim. She put on the captions. “Just because Eddie gets a broken ankle, I don’t want him to leave the show.” She thinks someone is gonna leave at the end or die, I kinda tricked her into thinking Tommy’s gonna die. She asked what a beard is. Told her. “Let me ask you something—no—wait—Eddie’s not gay. Neither is Chimney. So why would he be a beard?” I asked why she thought Eddie was gay. “Not Eddie. Buck! Buck’s not gay.” I told her nobody on the court is gay (not a lie technically). “Exactly. Nobody is gay.” Still listening to the song: she likes the song. She’s into this scene that I made her watch three times. “Ooohh he drove him.” “They’re not gonna be friends any more.”
Buck and Maddie at lunch: Liked Maddie going blonde and the Sarah story. Thinks Maddie was right he was acting like a kid, so jealous. “I want to be your friend too. Include me.”
The SCENE: she has no clue what’s about to happen. No idea. Is nodding when Buck said he was jealous. “Wow” about Buck wanting to get to know Tommy. “That was funny!” After they kissed. “Buck was trying to get his attention and he just kissed him.” “It’s nice. Good. It’s an interesting ending. So now those two will be friends.” I asked if she missed the end of that scene. “No! They’re going out on Saturday at 8am to learn to fly a helicopter.” I told her to rewind it. On the rewatch: “You can have more than one friend!” After Buck said he thinks Tommy is cool “He likes him… okay.” “Tommy went in for the kiss.” She smiling now. “They’re gonna get a beer.. and kiss.”
Promo for next week: she gasped when Buck said it was his first date with a guy. She thought it was just two guys going out for a drink. She didn’t realize they were romantically involved. “Who did Eddie bring to the restaurant?” I said it was his girlfriend “when did she get on the show?”
And on Buck being bi? “It’s nice.”
Was she expecting it? “I thought Buck was more interested in Eddie. Because of the jealousy. I thought Buck and Eddie would be kissing. And then Tommy comes along and he’s gonna kiss one of them.” “Tommy is cute, he’s gonna kiss somebody. Once they add another character it has to be someone to kiss Eddie or Buck.” “I was waiting for them to have a threesome.” “They’re just men having fun! All three of them!” “I thought Tommy and Eddie were gonna kiss. I forgot about the girlfriend.”

Game design thoughts- Superliminal
I’ve decided, for shits and giggles and bettering my analysis skills, that I’ll write and post some thought about the game design of games I’m playing for the first time. Not a rating or anything, just a sort of what I learned from it
I just finished Superliminal on the Xbox. Only took around 2 hours for a solid first playthrough. Made in Unity, released 2019.
The main mechanics were around perspective. Unfortunately, this playthrough wasn’t completely blind, because there was a gif set or promo trailer floating around Tumblr a couple years ago, and it showed the mechanics before I got a chance to figure them out myself. But, the premise is picking up objects, and their size depends on the actual perspective when you drop it.
I think those mechanics are pretty fucking cool. I would love to see how the idea was originally prototyped. Or how they came up with the idea. Honestly tomorrow morning I might look into if the creators have done any interviews or anything.
The tutorial was pretty sick though. Instead of ui elements floating and telling you what to do, everything was written on objects in the game. My favorite was “press a to jump” being on a wet floor sign.
Narratively, it did make me ponder about brute forcing puzzles, and trying the same thing over and over. There was one puzzle I was stuck on near the end that I only decided to change perspectives on after I noticed the classic game trick of teleporting the player to create a feeling of infinite looping. While I didn’t walk away fundamentally changed, I did gain a new perspective on how I do puzzles.
The juice was pretty good, too. It got me giddy to pull every fire alarm and use up every fire extinguisher just because the option was there. There might also be achievements for doing that each level? Idk. Superliminal also had some good (although a little too loud) controller shake when an object was made huge and dropped on the ground. There was text I couldn’t read on papers that I wanted to read. The loading screens were great too, and while the bar animations weren’t accurate, the variation and weirdness for each one made up for it.
The limitations, unfortunately, were a touch obvious. The edges of light could shine through objects in a way that initiated something was up. Too many objects bumping around (which didn’t happen often) made a god awful sound. Screen hiccups happened a lot. Honestly, all of it was bearable, but the first one in particular just made me think about how light does that and it pisses me off as a developer that I can’t control it.
Other thoughts:
The walking around and setting felt very reminiscent of The Stanley Parable, especially in the repeated opening segments.
Music cutoffs were well placed and heavily affected the tone.
Late game played heavily with dream with dream sensation, and so perfectly emulated the dream feeling of looking at everything right side up while it feels like you’re laying down.
Played with the medium. I mentioned earlier that it used teleportation for infinite hallway tricks, but at some point it just started teleporting you for the purpose of being jarring.
On a similar note, it loved to play with the first person camera. It knew that you couldn’t look behind you, so it had complete free range to silently change whatever you weren’t looking at. Then when everything was breaking down, it started fucking with you and changing things as you looked at them, so you only saw the change once you moved
There was one level intended to be eerie, and it did that so well it made me google “is Superliminal scary.” The answer is no. I’m just a bit of a paranoid fraidy cat. It ended with a joke so good I instantly forgave it for making me scared.
The humor was also pretty good. It’s a good reminder that games can bet serious AND a little bit silly with it.
The piano music was superb
The options menu was simple and bland. It didn’t need to be anything else. Everything it had could simple fall under “gameplay” or “audio” settings.
Conformed to the wonderful idea that text to speech voices are evil. Fuck tik tok.
Overall, it was a sick game! I might do a couple more replays tomorrow. Or I’ll move to something else.

What, no complaining? No, of course not. Let me preface this by saying that whoever thought of this episode order needs to be fired for real. I'm always ready to point fingers at CityTV.
I knew there was a Charah scene somewhere! But what the fuck, he's going to meet her entire family? Yeah, I'd bolt too lol. Also, yay, S4 Charlie is still in there somewhere and if you don't think that's a good thing, I must point out: continuity.
This is the whitest cake I've ever seen in my life. It should be a crime to give such a white cake to anyone you claim not to hate. And I don't even like chocolate much especially in cakes, but jeez.
Very, very action packed first twenty minutes. Like, good job. I have zero notes. Also, the camera work was good. Hell, maybe even the editing.
Every time Rex goes through a window like that, I lose the next ten seconds going back to Kommissar Rex.
And look at that, we have competent Charlie this season.
Charlie's communication shorthand with Rex is so Rex/Brandtner that it's killing me. Like, thank you for killing me.
They finally gave the rest of them some work to do. And beyond that, gave the actors some work to do. It's a crime to have expressive actors in your cast and just have them talk about evidence.
Incels, that fucking plague. I feel for the mother though. And she was so sweet. But honestly, while I think the actor playing the shooter also did a good job (watching the promo, I though he was so bad but thank god it was just another terribly cut promo, CityTV please contact me, I'll do it for free!) I can't help feeling like he was a bit too old to be given the justification that he could not think for himself. Although, I've seen way too many people not thinking for themselves ever since the internet got on everyone's phone. Realistic. Still, I wouldn't empathize with someone in his situation either in fiction or in real life. Like, he almost murdered a bunch of innocent people because he couldn't get laid or he got laid off? Cry me a river.
Terrible timing with the mass shooting in Maine, by the way. Not the show's fault, obviously, but still.
Jesse, that was such a cool move. Also, fistbump that didn't look awkward!
Can they even use "Neural Net" on the show? When Neural Network is a thing? Really curious about this, although I don't think it's a registered trademark. Also, are we going to spend our entire season mentioning AI and deep learning? It's like the new cryptocurrency (someone fucking loves new technologies on that show).
Sweet Charah scene at the end too. Kiss or no kiss. I can still see the new showrunner's direction all over this, but it's less noticeable, and they're not trying to pull their relationship back, instead they're trying to move them forward, even with less screentime. And while I don't think most of our reactions weren't warranted as fandom, I think we did overreact a bit. But hey, fandom privilege. Unless we go really crazy in which case someone should call it out.
I really don't understand why this wasn't the season premiere. Like, I've tried to come up with conspiracy theories even. None make sense. Did the new showrunner (names, I want names, damnit) felt the need to appease whoever is in charge of Newfoundland's public relations so much that they had to make a 45 minute "Visit Newfoundland" spot?
PS: Is it me, or is Charlie's house suddenly unavailable? I mean, as of this episode, we have two Charah scenes (finally) and one Charlie's house scene. Although, how many scenes were the out-of-work scenes, really? Very few in this season.

That's like me first time seeing this
Also, while I was desperately trying to find where 'Agatha' came from, I've ended up looking at official DLC guide that I've never seen before ( x ). I never was able to lay my dirty hands on official merch of this kind (and now never will again), but looks like I was kinda wrong:
Tumblr media
All five of you remember my interpretation, right? I find it strange because not only all clues towards Willem still being important and relevant in the Healing Church are still in the game plain and clear, but also even in Japanese title for Laurence, his status refers to "the guy that replaces the ACTUAL leader of [religious institution]" ( x ).
It does not change... too much? But yeah, I will have to loosen my theory up and properly keep Willem as someone who stayed behind in Byrgenwerth, simply writing it as Healing Church still had contact with him (that secret cave in the woods, Yurie the Last SCHOLAR(!), that Church Giant in Lecture Hall, Byrgenwerth doing the Fishing Hamlet yet that's considered Church's secret, Willem and Byrgenwerth being aware of Laurence's Moon Presence and Gehrman even asking Willem to free him etc)... until it was declared "forbidden" later, for the same reason why Oedon Chapel ended up rumoured as cringefail place. I was moving towards it anyways, but now just more certainly! So, Byrgenwerth and Healing Church WERE in tight contact even after Laurence started doing his thing but Willem didn't help to found shit, he just layed back and watched the youth learn from their mistakes lol.
youtube
This also means that this altair is more likely not how Willem used to look, but Laurence, when I thought the opposite was true:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the other hand:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The guide confirms what already was in the game but is often glossed over by the fandom; that Fishing Hamlet massacre was order of WILLEM and not Laurence and even devs say there is legit connection, that Willem wants us to hunt Rom and that Amelia was not a direct successor of Laurence but there were other Vicars that can make cool OCs!
Tumblr media
Otherwise, nothing new was learned! Just that fiiiiine, I will return Laurence his proper role and push Willem back to be little to none active in Healing Church's life like it was meant to be. I wish I've seen this statement on the nose before, and not some vague cutscene with many other things in the game pointing towards a different interpretation 🙄 (@val-of-the-north come begrudgingly sing the Wrong Song with me xd (Okay I am joking, like I said it barely changes our story, just makes Willem elbowed away stronger. he still dresses like a pope tho so Byrgenwerth totally was a theocratical school)).
..... ah, shit, right, Agatha
Yeah me and the girls figured out that it was just a placeholder name that stuck and no official source ever called Chapel Dweller that. Not even in the same name as how Djura used to be called Guyla in promo materials, like... ever. Chapel Dweller was and IS a nameless babygirl.

I feel down about lack of artistic skill. So many IF authors are knocking it out of the park with their UI designs and promo images, and I'm here getting stressed out on canva struggling to even make a nice looking simple "game updated" banner with text on a background. are there guides anywhere on how to make these banners? are they really needed to get people's attention? (they feel like they are... the most popular blogs seem to have loads of shiny visuals that are really pretty but I just don't have the skills right now...)
Hey Anon!
Don't feel down...
This is really not something that happens overnight. Sure, some artistic talent will help start you off, but it is still a skill. One you can learn. But like all skills, it takes time to nourish and make it flourish. (and that amount of time needed will depend on the person.)
Also, Graphic Design is a very broad field. In the IF community, it will often embrace two different things: the UI, which requires learning a programming language (CSS) and the assets (including promo images), which requires learning about aesthetics, a graphic program, etc... These are very different skills to learn.
So you will make mistakes along the way, everyone does. It takes quite a lot of trial and error (with a lot of error) to get it right, then to get it right and quick. That's part of the learning process.
And, I can't lie and pretend innate artistic talent won't take a big part of making this process easier. Knowing how things should look, nicely or easy on the eye, is very helpful to make the whole process faster. As well as having studied those skills before starting making IF content (like in school/uni, or having learned by spending decades in a fandom making those weird little edits and banners for your forum signature that you spent hours making sparkle....). Or, in some cases, the author was able to get assets directly from someone with those skills (as paid content).
I don't know where you are on your IF journey, but don't despair. I know it's hard not to compare yourself to other authors and their skills (I know I do that, and have to remind myself not to do it), but you don't know how far they are on their graphic design journey. Maybe they struggled like you, once.
I know I did...
... and I still do!
This post is getting quite long, so I'll share my lil bit of experience below.
I've been on the internet for a while (when Forums were the thing), and learned a lot of those graphic stuff through graphic design-help forums (some where full on forums, others were just sub-channels, but you got to learn from someone with knowledge, that was cool). Also didn't realise then the use of images. I def used copyrighted images when I shouldn't have... the early naughties were a different times (and so was I, being 12 and all...)
But, before starting IF, I hadn't touched Photoshop or other Graphic Design program for about... 15 years? I had lost a lot of skills in that time. I had to relearn a lot of things (as well as learn some new ones, CSS had never been in my wheelhouse).
It used to take me hours to make banners and the such. I fawned over other creators' ability to make gif (which is doable on Canva), or have the perfect aesthetics to match their project (and their drawing skills...). For CRWL, I spent days on Canvas editing the main banner, because it didn't look right enough. I've re-done that one a couple of times, and I am still not happy with it.
Even after almost two years of doing this regularly, I still struggle. I can spend days/weeks on a UI to make it look nice and have the right palette, only to realise when it's published that the sizing messes up for some people. And I still spend hours on those Coming Soon posters (and then forget I have night light on my devices, so it messes with the colours). And have we talked about the time spent trying to find the perfect picture to use (on copyright free websites)? Though for smaller projects, I might slap two things together and call it a day. You can't go wrong with a simple colour background and a special font.

Yes I was very surprised and disappointed to learn it was just two tracks. I know you can’t just take a Charlie drum track and build a song around it (well you could but that’s not the usual way) but they couldn’t have found a way to incorporate more from all the unreleased stuff they have? I didn’t get the sense that any songs were specifically about Charlie either. I’m not in a charitable mood towards them at the moment so I’ll just say that I was annoyed there was no Charlie in the Angry video either. I thought it was cool how they used past performances but it almost seemed like they went out of their way for Charlie not to be seen? We don’t need to see him specifically drumming like he’s on the track because we know he isn’t but a glimpse of him would have worked especially since he was there on every single thing they showed! I don’t know if I want to say it’s deliberate Charlie erasure and I know they love him but it rubs me the wrong way. I don’t know. Maybe I’m not being sympathetic enough and too Charlie focused rather than band focused but damn!
I mean, according to Don Was, Keith used to sit in the studio, listen to Charlie play/warm up, and take that as the starting point for many of ‘his’ songs. So theoretically it should have been at least somewhat possible for him. Either way, I’m entirely mystified as to why they decided to throw away everything recorded before 2019. They’ve been working on this since the last album in 2005, and, according to everyone in the band, the sessions that produced Blue and Lonesome (recorded 2015) were primarily for that new album. Never mind what’s going on with this producer they’ve never worked with before having so many co-writing credits. It feels odd (that’s the nicest possible adjective I can muster at the moment) that they evidently didn’t try very hard to preserve or include more of Charlie’s work. Let’s be real, we all know he isn’t the reason this album took so long to materialize.
Thank you for saying this! I thought I was loosing it, because I was also struck by how there was basically no Charlie in the “Angry” video, and the bits where he did appear were with the whole band, often with him specifically obscured by something else on screen. I can’t figure out what they hell they’re doing anymore, honestly. If this is their way of welcoming Steve fully into the band/inducting him as Charlie’s replacement (something they said they wouldn’t do, but I don’t think there’s much use setting stock by what they say on that anymore), I guess I understand the intent, but it mostly comes across as cruel and dismissive. Also, even though they’ve been adamant the whole time leading up to this that Charlie is on the album, they’ve made very little effort to acknowledge that in any of the promo. I’m disappointed, too, and increasingly feeling like the post-2021 Stones aren’t something I want to have that much engagement with.

Your honest view of 5.13? Chenford thoughts too?
hello hello!
Great question.
My first reaction to the episode was that i was bored. So bored. And that opening scene while funny, was nepotism at it's finest. The guy singing is Alexi Hawley's son. oh joy.
Then I had the chance to watch the episode again later in the evening, and I enjoyed it the second time through.
I was bored because of all the chenford specific promos we got gave a lot of the story away - so there weren't any real surprises. Plus that really reminded me of previous seasons when chenford was in the promos but sliced and diced in a way to attract viewers, but what aired was not what was in the promos.
here are my thoughts in no particular order:
+ I loved the scene where they are murder boarding a new job for Tim in John's living room. Shooting through the window at the cast was such a cool perspective as opposed to a camera behind them looking over their shoulder.
+ I loved the focus on Celina - and then indirectly on John. First by Grey and then by Sgt Bradford. With Grey, I really liked that he recognized Celina's natural instinct for trouble and helped her reason out why she felt what she felt. Using logic to explain the instinct. John does not do that with her. He's trying to get her to stop being herself - but Grey teaches her how to lean into her existing skills and parse them out step by step - which when called to testify in court she will definitely have to be able to do.
I hope they spend more time on grading Nolan - he's IMO quite smug and overconfident he's been in this role for what? let's say 4 months and he accts like the best TO there ever was. um no. He's still a rookie in that role and I'm surprised there haven't been more checks and balances around grading him grading others.
+ I loved Angela and Wesley working together. That was fun. I love their dynamic.
+ Everyone inviting themselves to John's house because he has A/C.
+Tim being surprised to see Lucy there - like haven't they been texting all day long? and him with his hands in his pockets to keep himself from touching her? I'm sure he picked up on her being cagey - that she was up to something, but I don't know if he yet realizes WHAT she was up to.
Things I'm concerned about for future episodes:
+ Metro - everyone was so excited to get Tim to that team, so yay that he's not stuck doing paperwork bored out of his mind. But I think Tim being the boot on that team could create challenges for our love birds.
Brutal hours, an LT who wanted to bring on John to the team(what?), these guys do not look like they will be supportive of Tim being in a relationship with a P2. I expect his LT to give him a very hard time about than when she learns of it.
Nyla's warning about sergeants talking. I definitely see something bad happening here with that. Grey will be a useful resource to mitigate any flack there, but he won't be able to stop it entirely.
I think the new role will tap into Tim's military history - and who knows why kind of PTSD can of worms could be opened as a result.
But I think he is going to be challenged in more ways than one - more "fun stuff" for Eric to act out - and seeing how he and Lucy react alone and separately will be interesting to watch and a potential for angst. But I have faith in them
+Keeping Tim in the dark. I get why Lucy didn't want to tell him that she was the architect of his new opportunity. That would put the focus on her, instead of on him. She may have had the idea, but she definitely pulled it off because of everyone else - including Smitty.
Smitty side note - I was yelling at my screen when Lucy made her deal with him - she should have said nothing weird or gross. And sure enough he gave her something gross.
I think Tim forgets that MidWilshire is his family. Yes he's got a new love in Lucy, but even before she got there, he had the love and support of the MidWilshire crew and of course, they were going to work together to get him a better job. So I want someone to tell him what THEY did for him. Whether that's Smitty dropping a hint or Angela telling him. It all started with Lucy, yes, but his whole family kicked in to help.
I am also glad that we are shifting out of heavily chenford episodes. Nolan has been out of the angst for most of the season, and I think he's getting lazy. Next week should be good to remedy that. And We've got Valentine's Day, Chris's return, Metro in action coming up... gonna be a fun remaining episodes.

Ficlet: Behind (with) Blue Eyes
Title: Behind (with) Blue Eyes
Word count: 1190
Rating: T
Characters: Liv Morgan/Rhea Ripley (appearances by Damian Priest and Becky Lynch)
Prompt:  "You got a tattoo of WHAT?!"
Tagged: @wrestleprompts
"Hey, Rips, you better go check on your girl." Damian barely looked up from the hair station where he was wetting down his hair before his match.
It certainly wasn't the greeting Rhea expected upon arrival at the arena. She and Liv had just hooked up the night before, barely remembering not to leave the hotel together. Neither was a stickler for kayfabe, but since they had a match against each other that night, they both knew they had to look like they were at odds. "What's wrong with Liv?" she asked. "She was fine this morning."
Damian rolled his eyes. "I bet she was. And even better last night, right?" Then he shrugged. "I don't know what's up. I overheard her talking with Becky and she said something about her ass being sore." He straightened up and gave Rhea a stern look. "You being too rough again, Rips? You gotta learn that not everyone has the same pain threshold you do."
"Yeah, yeah." As Rhea adjusted her bag's strap on her shoulder, she thought back to the night before, but couldn't remember Liv complaining about being particularly sore. "She's probably just trying to get me in trouble with Hunter again," she said with a shake of her head. "I swear, you come to the Performance Center with harness marks one time and you get a lecture about 'appropriateness' at least once a week for fuckin' months on end."
"I offered to show you how to put that harness on," Damian reminded her with a grin, "but no. Someone had to be stubborn and try to figure it out on her own."
"Oh, stuff it, you." Rhea gave him a friendly shove to the chest before hugging him and continuing on her way, almost ducking down a side corridor when she spotted Becky. No sense in delaying the inevitable, Rhea told herself instead, striding right up to her coworker. "Hey, Becks. How's it going? Roux feeling better today?"
Becky nodded absently, looking away from her phone. "Yeah. Must have been one of those twenty-four hour things. She's around so many people backstage now...." She gave Rhea a pointed look but didn't say anything more.
Fine. I'll budge, Rhea thought. "Have you seen Liv?" she asked, trying to keep her voice level. "I haven't seen her since the hotel this morning, and she left in a hurry."
"Yeah. She mentioned something about going to Medical for a new bandage or something." Becky held her gaze. "Everything good with you two? I know it can be hard when you're in an opposing storyline."
Rhea nodded quickly. If she could catch up with Liv, maybe they would be able to shut down the inevitable rumours. "All good," she promised. "Before I forget, I found a shop that sells little fake leather vests for kids. I know Roux likes my gear, so would it be cool if I got her one?"
That made Becky smile. "Sure. She can wear it when she's stomping around the bus in her boots. Seth just loves that—especially when his football games are on."
"Great. I'll let you know when it's in." Rhea took off at a jog, murmuring quick hellos to people backstage until she reached Medical just as Liv was stepping out. "Hey," she said, only slightly out of breath. "What's up? Priest told me I should check up on you."
Liv's eyes went wide. "Huh? Wonder why. I haven't talked to him today." She bumped her hip against Rhea's. "C'mon. I have to get dressed soon because I have a promo to shoot before the match."
Rhea held back a bit, watching Liv as she walked. She loved the view, of course, but she was watching for any signs of a nagging ache. There wasn't quite as much sway to Liv's hips, but she also said she was in a hurry. "Everything okay?" she asked, lowering her voice. "Priest said he overheard you say something about being sore."
Liv sped up a bit. "What? Oh. He must have heard me talking to Becky. Yeah, the tattoo's still a little sore. It's small, so I didn't think it would be a big deal, but I probably should have waited until one of my days off."
Rhea took a moment to try piecing together what Damian had told her with what Liv had just divulged. "You got another tattoo?" she said at last, gaze dropping. "When?"
"Yeah." Liv waved a hand vaguely as she pushed open the door to the women's locker room with her foot. "Kind of a spur of the moment thing. I mean, I knew I wanted it, but I didn't have an appointment or anything." She set her bag on one of the benches and looked around. The showers were quiet and there was no sign of any of the other women inside. "Wanna see?" she asked, grinning widely.
"Of course, but...." Rhea wasn't sure how to finish. Part of her felt a bit slighted that Liv hadn't even mentioned it to her before or invited her along. "Are you going to be okay for your match tonight?" Any artist she had gone to usually recommended waiting at least two days before strenuous activity.
Liv nodded as she started to unbutton her jeans. "The artist seemed to think so. Like I said, it's pretty small. And before I forget, the artist said you had nice eyes."
"Why would they—" Rhea stopped suddenly as Liv pulled her jeans and panties down, exposing her ass—and the new tattoo there, covered with a clear bandage. "Those are my eyes." The artist had even incorporated the slice through her eyebrow.
"Yep!" Liv wiggled her ass a bit. "I figured you spend enough time looking at my ass. I might as well memorialize it."
Liv was right: it was a comparatively small piece, all in black except for a bit of blue for the irises, and it probably wouldn't take long to heal. Rhea still wasn't sure how she felt about it.
"You got a tattoo of WHAT?!"
Liv and Rhea both turned to see Becky in the doorway—thankfully without Roux on her hip. "Hey, Becks." After checking that the clear bandage was still in place, Liv pulled everything back into place. "Yeah, so....
"Young love, I suppose," Becky said simply, going over to her bag and grabbing a small notebook. "Just don't tell Seth or he'll get ideas."
"For your ass or his?" Rhea dared to ask.
Becky shook her head. "I don't want to know." She waved vaguely at Liv's ass. "Just... be careful, will you? Can't imagine that's a fun spot to have an infection."
Liv reached over and squeezed Rhea's hand. "Good thing I know a tattoo expert." After Becky left, Liv gave Rhea a quick kiss. "You're not mad, are you? I wanted it to be a surprise, and I know we won't be on the same show for a while, so...."
"I love it." Then Rhea grinned, tugging Liv's jeans down so she could see the tattoo again. "Good thing you didn't want a tattoo of my tongue, though."

NOTE: Eagle-eyed viewers might recognize this post from a couple nights ago. That’s because I fucked up and wrote up the wrong episode by mistake. So I’m reposting it as to not disgrace the continuity of my blog. Please scroll down for a brand new Ephemera Corner and a slightly larger-sized Mail Bag.

Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! #8: “Hamburger” | April 7, 2007 - 11:45PM | S01E08
A serious contender for favorite Awesome Show episode ever, a near-flawless show that is actually weirdly cohesive; almost “one thing”; like Ice Haven by Daniel Clowes or something like that.
The plot of this episode is basically that Tim & Eric haven’t turned the episode of the show in yet, and we’re watching a live feed of them trying to rush the episode to Adult Swim. This begins with a fake bumper. Not since Sealab 2021 have we been treated to the fake bumper shtick. I think. I don’t know how to check this. Sorry. The “live feed” is very obviously not actually live, because we see obvious edits and even a little bit of reversed footage of Neil Hamburger being disgusting.
Neil Hamburger! I love Neil Hamburger so much. I first got into Neil Hamburger… I forget how. I think one of the VERY VERY VERY few cool people in Redding, CA told me about him. I have two of his early albums, and a couple of DVDs of his. I have that first one where he’s not doing the voice. I got to see him live circa 2005 in San Francisco. He told a joke where he exhaustively described Ronald McDonald coming home and murdering his entire family, including his wife, his son, and his dog. Q. Why did Ronald McDonald murder his family [told in lengthy beat-by-beat detail]? A. Because he found some of the Colonel’s secret herbs and spices in his wife’s panties. A pathetic punchline, but the entire room was howling at the set-up for what felt like forever. Maybe the best comedy show I’ve ever been to?
Tim & Eric call a cab, and it’s Neil Hamburger, who is announced with an extended title card during the opening. They must rush to Adult Swim headquarters to deliver their tape. But Neil is surly and uses bad manners on them. There are lots of wonderful moments between them, like when Neil calls them rapists unprompted. When they protest to being called rapists he shoots back “then don’t rape.” I literally think about this maybe once a day in traffic. If I get mad at a fellow driver and I’m feeling jocular, I’ll shout “you rapist!” in a Neil Hamburger voice. But thaaaat’s my life.
There are typical Awesome Show skits and bits, but nearly all of them fold back into the ending or set something up that happens later. Example: a promo for the Uncle Muscles Grand Championships is very funny on it’s own (Channel 5 logo in flames with the subtitle “on Five’r” is so hilarious), and it also sets up the ending of the episode.
Tim and Eric wind up caught in a traffic jam, caused by a car crash. Two men argue with each other over who caused the accident, and decide to settle it by having their little pocket monsters fight each other; one has a Tim and one has an Eric, both in red jumpsuits. They have a dance off and Tim is declared the winner (the footage of them dancing in these red jumpsuits is repurposed for the opening of Awesome show). Eric’s male owner punishes Eric by squashing him to death with his foot. Tim is allowed to climb up into his owner’s breast pocket and do an insane dance while making disgusting noises.
Then we cut to Michael Q. Schmidt and his companion (an actor that I don’t think ever recurred on the show, even though he has a great look and voice). Michael Q. is looking through his yoo-hoo stick (or “telescope” to those of you who aren’t stateside) at Tim’s dance. We soon learn through dialogue Michael Q. is dancing in the Uncle Muscles Grand Championships, and may be underprepared. Michael Q. teases that he’s got an idea, heavily implied that he’s going to use Tim’s dance. This bit of set-up completely eluded me in the first few viewings of this episode. I remember exclaiming this revelation to my friend who was watching it with me, as he often did. He too never realized this, and we had ourselves a little mitzvah over it.
Finally Tim & Eric Make it to Adult Swim headquarters (with a very fun miniature or computer-generated building or some combination of) and toss the tape inside. As it slowly makes its way into the tape machine, they lament that they forgot to rewind it. So it plays the ending of the show: the tail end of Casey and his brother performing “Chop Suey” (using footage from an old promo they shot). Uncle Muscles (Weird Al) throws to Michael Q. Schmidt, completely nude, performing “Raise My Roof”, clearly inspired by Tim’s little goblin/pocket dance. Cut to Uncle Muscles, Casey, and his Brother, all speechless. CUE CREDITS: which is inexplicably the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme. I remember crying laughing at this when it happened. I’m a casual admirer of Curb and not quite a devotee, so the fact that they were using Curb-style music cues throughout the whole episode sorta eluded me.
Another great thing worth mentioning is that Tim & Eric’s stupid little songs in this are so fun. They love to take little moments to themselves to celebrate minor accomplishments and it’s very charming. A very good idea for a kind of guy to be. When in a hurry to make a flight or other appointment I’ve been known to keep my spirits up by singing the little “we’re gonna make it” song.
There are roughly three bits in the entire show that don’t really have to do with this throughline, and they are:
A quick “Where’s my Chippy” bit, set at a claw machine being operated by a small boy. This is my favorite one of these, I think. Doug Lussenhop plays the boy and he has a Chippy-esque pube-stache. He’s so weird-looking in this. It’s… unforgettable.
A prank phone call where Tim calls a tech support company because a uke fell on his laptop and now he can’t check his sites. There’s some very funny turns of phrase in this, and the cut away from the animated call to actual camera footage of Tim performing the call is so fun. It is, dare I say it? Irresistible. Tim notes on the commentary (recorded shortly after this season was completed, if memory serves) that this is probably the final prank phone call of the series. This is a good one to go out on. These can be funny, and have funny things in them, but making them be prank phone calls is pointless, because it’s almost never really about the reaction.
A very strong, very funny Steve Brule segment where he presents his investigative report about diarrhea. He has a chart showing every day he got the runs, and really says nothing of use about the topic. When Jan and Wayne notice a different color square on one of the days that month, Steve sheepishly admits that it was his birthday. Jan and Wayne rib him for not letting them know it was his birthday and go into a spirited birthday song while steve basks in the love with a dumb little smile. The sketch ends with what’s assumed to be a stock photo that in-universe Channel 5 graphics department scrambled to find: Jan and Wayne holding a birthday cake that has Wayne’s name on it. It’s such a hilarious detail, making this maybe my favorite Awesome Show Brule bit of all time.
I’m almost certain this is my favorite episode of season one. For Goddamn sure.

Poolside Chats with Neil Hamburger (Interview with Tim & Eric, January 15, 2007)
You remember Tom Green? Ottawa public-access host turned Canadian basic cable host turned MTV host turned filmmaker turned internet television pioneer? His online show was a nightly talk show that broadcast live out of his house, where he’d built a swanky late night set. There we some seriously wonderful and experimental moments on that show, as well as some very memorable trainwrecks. I was really into it for a short period of time, but would check in from time to time after that. Tom would have Neil Hamburger on frequently and eventually gave him his own spin-off show. The first episode, if I remember correctly, was an unmitigated disaster, with Neil breaking character several times.
This episode features Tim & Eric taking calls from racist teens. This is also the first appearance of rascals anywhere, which we’ll see next episode. Great fucking internet television. Needs to be in a museum.
MAIL BAG
Okay, to make up for the fact that by mixing up Tim & Eric episodes I’ve basically weaseled my way into *sorta* taking a night off, I’m gonna just answer every mail I have in my bag. Which may or may not result in a super-sized Mail Bag. I don’t wanna advertise that I’m doing this to the three people who are clearly my friends anonymously sending me stuff to mock me for doing a thing “for readers”, because they might go TOO nuts and make a point to send a lot to punish me.
You wrote Simpsons Night, right? Great blog, sad to see it end so abruptly because you had a fight with Disney+. Anywhoozle, how does your favorite Tim and Eric bit stack up against your favorite Simpsons bit (which I believe from reading the blog you said it was the Robotic Richard Simmons).
Thanks Nick. Anyway: That blog is not quite dead (lol Monty Python so funny... a bit UN-PC THOUGH!!!! AM I RIGHT?????). How dare you. Lotta Christmases have been happening lately so I’ve not had time to luxuriate in my various blogs. I’ll do another Simpsons soon.
I think the sad truth is that The Simpsons’ effects are waning on me, and I tend to see those great, incredible, ingenious jokes as a soothing balm. Tim & Eric are sorta the same way, but I’ve watched these episodes a fraction of the amount of time I’ve watched The Simpsons. But I’ve already begun thinking up more inane “watching the Simpsons” projects. I can’t get enough of those funny families.
I think Tim & Eric taps into a vein of humor that I ultimately prefer, which is stuff that is funny for reasons you can’t fully comprehend at first. You know what I mean? Anyway, my idea is that this time I watch the episodes by production code, but I alphabetize the production codes, so I actually start with season 10
neil hamburger must have freaked some people out in 2007
Okay: see, I already talked about the episode mix-up, otherwise I would have not used this Mail Bag on this post. If I were being truty deceitful, I would have pretended this Mail Bag came in later, and attach it to tomorrow’s post instead. Anyway: I cherish Neil Hamburger and we all should cherish him. Let’s get all his television appearances together in a bittorrent, stat!
Which Jackass parody do you like better: Tim and Eric's Dumbellz or PodcastAboutList's Prankass?
I’m assuming you left out Kenny Rogers’ Jackass because it’s too clear of a winner. Anyway, I know nothing about Prankass and am in fact a very casual fan of those guys. I’ve only heard a couple episodes of that show and watched the Jollibee video a few times. I gotta get with it. Prankass is probably much better.
You couldn't do the jokes Neil Hamburger did today
Yeah you can
What do you think of this: cheese sticks coated in italian breadcrumbs, fried until they are hot and melty on the inside, dunked into your favorite marinara or spaghetti sauce. It's an appetizer. Interested?
The idea of dipping these guys in marinara has never appealed to me. I have a weird thing against mixing tomato and cheese. Something about it seems sinful. I avoid pizza for this reason. Denny’s cheese sticks are perfect, and their chicken fingers used to be perfect, but then they changed them, and they are merely “alright”. I can’t find anything that compares.
Will we ever have another funny comedy duo like Tim and Eric again? Hayes and Sean? Those two guys who fucked off to work for Jimmy Fallon? Jeremy and Rajat? Daniels? Please don't say Daniels I hate that fucking movie.
I remember one time, Jimmy Kimmel had on a duo named like Ant and Dek, and I was like “huh, okay, who are theeeeeese guys” (getting ready to laugh because duos are tried and true) and then they get to talkin’, right, and it turns out they were just like normal-ass British television presenters that are hugely famous in England but not here, and Jimmy kept having to remind the audience that they were big stars, and they didn’t say anything funny because they weren’t really comedians at all. (not sure what my point was so...) anyway, all that stuff I said should be illegal.

committing myself to attempting a chapter in the form of a true-crime doc for The Sycamore Tree lmfao should be fun but we’ll have to see how it goes. I like challenging myself and trying my hand at a variety of writing styles and this fic being my first rookie fic AND being as long and as… involved… as it is makes it a good sandbox for some experimentation. might scrap it if it pisses me off but the attempt will be made. I already know exactly what ground it’s gonna cover and everything so I’m looking forward to putting those chapters in proper writing (not just an outline) so I can really get to work on this one knowing fully how the relevant chapters before it panned out. it’s planned and all but I need to actually finish the chapters first bc I’m not… always great at following my own outlines. lol.
since I’ve been trying to flesh it out with subplots and side action and new characters and bottle chapters and things my outline has come out feeling structured very much like a season of television. so I thought it’d be cool to try and take one of the show’s unique episode formats and incorporate it in. turning Sycamore into something of like a… what-if for s5 on the whole rather than just a canon divergence that happens to start in s5? like I want it to be Large Scale. if my readers and I are committing to 40 chapters that range from 7-10k words each, I might as well use that space to its full potential.
I’m rambling. but what y’all are gonna learn about me the more and more active I get in the fanfic scene for this show is that there’s nothing I love more than using my socmed platforms to pontificate my little fic ideas instead of making private notes. do it on my twt all the time for bbc merlin bc that’s the place I promo those works. tumblr’s become a bit of a home base for my rookie content (which is just Sycamore rn but hopefully more in the future since I’m enjoying creating this one so much). that means these random little musings about potential fics or directions for those wips are mostly gonna land here. feel free to ignore them. or, hell, if I post some off-hand concept that you like go ahead and lift it for your own works. I think that’s why I like making notes this way tbh bc then if an idea is dead-on-arrival for me it could theoretically find life in the hands of another writer who came across it. like paying it forward or whatever but in fic prompts. inspiring myself and hopefully other writers in the process—since I know coming up w an idea is half the battle. might be a bit presumptuous but it’s like if I do it this way maybe I can make that part a bit easier on my future self or on someone else. idk.
anyway. love y’all a lot. like a lot a lot. the support is still mind-blowing to me. I don’t think I’ll ever quite wrap my head around it. very surreal. so hopefully you can bear w me and my aimless posts like this and my writing experiments that may or may not succeed. I’m so proud of this work so far but it’s such new territory for me and it really feels like it’s asking a lot of the audience to stick w it since it’s… so much. like I want the diversions from the main arc to feel natural and engaging. it’s difficult tho bc I’m not a professional or whatever. I’m not even someone w an english/writing/literature background or something. I’m just a pharmacology student writing some silly little fanfiction in my spare time.
what I mean to say is that I’m trying my damnedest to make it worth your time to read it all. even the parts that aren’t chenford or aren’t connected to the main plot. like they’re there bc I feel like it adds to the experience not bc I’m trying to pad the length. and ik that in my mind but sometimes I see the current word count or my projections for the final word count based on the average of the finished chapters and I question how it comes off. like I worry a bit that adding stuff like that could seem superfluous even tho it’s not my intention. I don’t want Sycamore to be long for the sake of being long. I want it to be long so it can feel like a whole universe. like a highly fictionalized thing still grounded somewhat in reality. not just a one-track story to get characters straight from point A to point B. you know?
idk what I’m saying anymore but. it all makes sense in my head. I just have so many thoughts about this work and I’m also just so excited to write it and publish it and let you see it but it’s very slow-going bc I want it to be as good as possible.
anyway. weird little draft note thing over. there was a point to this somewhere but I definitely lost it midway. lmfao. this is what happens when I forget to take my adhd meds and can’t focus enough to actually write but still want to feel like I’m making progress. whoops.

Zelie's RP 101: Rules
Hi! This is part of a Roleplay 101 guide meant primarily for my beloved roleplay group, The Curtain Callers, but it might be useful to anyone who's new to roleplay here on Tumblr.
(Yes, Discord/your forum/email/Omegle/etc. has different rules and expectations than Tumblr. Trust me, I learned the hard way.)
TLDR;s are bolded at the beginning of every section, but I do recommend reading the full post if you have the time and energy.
The Cardinal Rule: Communicate. If the people you run with are any good at all, communication will smooth over any issues you may run across, including an accidental breach of the below rules. In the end, roleplay is just communication in style, but remember it's no fun for anyone if their feelings get hurt. Ask about boundaries (triggers, yes-and-nos, squicks), ideas, etc. And if you want to RP with someone? Ask them! You won't get anywhere staring forlornly at their blog. Even blogs marked "private" might (MIGHT! do not pester them!) be willing to play with you if you ask nicely.
Read the rules. No, not these rules (though you might want to do that too); I mean the rules on someone's blog page. They are there for a reason and will make interactions so much easier. Unlike Discord and forums, there's no central rule system here, only etiquette guidelines and agreements between individuals and groups. A blog's rules are their expectations for followers/partners. Follow them. If there's a password, send it when you IM them.
Link to your RP sideblog on your main. I know, it might make you squeamish, but when I see an random personal blog following me and I can't figure out what their RP blog is, I block them. I definitely can't send them starters, that's for sure. If you don't want your Main main attached to your roleplay, make a second primary account.
Have a tagging system and use it--and DON'T use main tags (#character, #ship, #fandom, etc). This is mostly for your own benefit, but it will help others. Having a clear tagging system on your blog will make it much easier for people to find what they're looking for. I personally suggest tagging for type of post (RP, OOC, IC text post [if you do those], non-RP reblog, meta/headcanon, prose, promo, meme, etc.), verse (short for universe, could be continuity or version of your muse--multimuse blogs should tag for muse as well), and partner(s). Don't worry about aesthetic tags if you're just starting out; just make sure you don't put RP in the main tags. It's discourteous to the non-RPers of your fandom.
Don't join without permission. If you see a really cool-looking thread, you can ask if it'd be okay to join. This is more acceptable in close groups, but the worst thing that happens is you get turned down. I recommend never having this sort of thing be your first interaction with a blog or mun, but you do you.
Social media/IC texting style roleplays might be different; ask your group, if you have one, or someone else's 101 otherwise. I am a scene roleplayer and therefore not an authority on txt/socmed RP.
Practice reblog karma, even if your blog doesn't. Notification feeds are important to us roleplayers; they're often how we see someone is trying to start/continue a thread. Therefore, it's important to many RPers that their notifications stay clear of anything but roleplay. That's the basic ground of reblog karma: don't reblog without offering something in return.
RP threads/scenes you are not a part of should never end up on your blog. Not only does it clog notifications, it spreads things outside their intended context, which invites drama. If you must, ASK ALL INVOLVED PARTIES first, and do not tag the reblog with main tags.
As for memes, it's polite to send in an ask using the meme you are reblogging. This might be questions, starters, or any number of other things. Be prepared to follow up if it's a starter.
Differentiate OOC and IC. There is nothing more frustrating than not knowing if you're talking to the character or the mun. ((Double parenthesis)) are the most common way of marking OOC, but [brackets] and even //double slashes// are sometimes used. You may occasionally see (single parenthesis), but I strongly discourage this habit. It's probably wise to mark somewhere in your intro post if your tags are IC or OOC. Personally, mine are OOC, but again, I'm a scene RPer and that may not be the convention in txt RPs.
Never, never, never control another mun's character without explicit and specific permission.
Don't godmod/powerplay. Your character(s) should be on the same rough level as your partner's characters. There are exceptions to this, but if you need this guide, you are not ready for them. Let your character get hit, let them get hurt, let them mess up.
Be specific. If an action is physically happening in the RP world, it needs to be clear to everyone involved what it is, ESPECIALLY if it affects other characters. Internal dialogue can be vague as you please, but don't try to be ~~~mysterious~~~ on purpose. It rarely ends well.
Yes, and...! There's an old adage in improv that you should never say no, only "yes, and". In other words, go with the flow. Have fun. Be cringe. Don't try and redirect the plot without asking. Don't deny a natural shift.
Give your partner something to say. Don't just react to the last post, but add on new things! This is something you get a feel for over time, but for now, try adding baits you know your partner can reply to for every bait you take.
Fill out interest checkers. I don't see many of these these days, but if you see one, fill it out as instructed. It'll make the mun's life a lot easier, I promise.
Do not RP with people who don't want to RP. Don't roleplay on non-roleplay posts. Don't roleplay with random strangers who aren't on RP blogs. Don't drag random people into your roleplay.
(Flight Rising players who write original owners into dragon lore without permission, I'm talking to you with that one.)
Credit ALL art on your page. "Lost art", "found on Google", "not the artist" don't count. Use their name, link to them if possible, and do it in a prominent place people can get to on desktop AND mobile.
Thread trimming is courteous, but ultimately optional. Personally, I don't trim because the browser I run doesn't support Xkit and I do most of my roleplay from mobile. I don't mind endless scrolling. Most people do. If it's feasible for you, I recommend getting the Chrome/Firefox extension Xkit and learning to trim your threads. That is the standard custom.
Respect the hobby AND the life. People have lives outside Tumblr, and they don't need a reason to have a delayed response. If their rules allow it, you can poke a partner after an abnormal delay, but don't be incessant, and don't be rude.

life is strange true colours review
the non spoilery part: i LOVED this game, my personal fave game this year and the first franchise entry since the original that has really resonated with or moved me.
it's a life is strange game through and through, so if you don't like slice of life episodes or bonding with NPCs, it's not gonna be for you. but if you like the franchise, or even if you liked the first game but haven't been interested in/liked the other two instalments, i recommend giving this one a chance. i think it got closer to figuring out the formula while still doing something new and interesting.
more detailed spoilers and opinions:
alex
holy shit i love alex? bisexual chad... my darling... i'm gonna be real, a lot of the trailers and promo for this game made me worried she'd be kind of a dull wallflower Soft Girl character, but she's not! she's so funny, and even parts of her characterization i initially thought were maybe a bit of a stretch ended up making sense as i learned more about her. she stole the show. i straight up forgot how much loving the protag helps enjoyment of these kinds of games lmao ... finally a reason to click on everything in the room: to hear what alex will say about it.
i thought her backstory exploration in ep 5 especially was wonderful and emotive and great. broke my heart and explained so much about her :( baby girl
plot/choices
i loved the mystery. i don't think it was quite as Mysterious as the mystery in lis1, but that was okay, i was still invested in solving it. i also got invested enough in the NPCs around the town to make all the exploration bits really fun. i loved eavesdropping on the sagas of the random NPCs like bald man and ice cream couple... just fun little touches and narratives to follow that i enjoyed.
i really appreciated this script not being afraid to shy away from some messier emotions, even if in some cases i wish we spent more time on them. for example: alex feeling a bit jealous of the other people in town that got to know gabe better than her/spend more time with him than she did. or charlotte hating ethan!!! my jaw dropped, i thought that was so good, what a messy but realistic response.
I'm not entirely sure what all the ramifications of different choices are at this point, fresh off my first play. i ended up getting only part of the council to stand with me (eleanor & duckie) while losing pike and charlotte.
i do wish we saw a bit more fallout or exploration of what taking away emotion DOES. i took charlotte's anger, and obviously it meant she didn't stand up for me in the council meeting, but where does she go from there? does she like... ever return to feeling emotions lmao... I also think we probably should've had the opportunity to do that another time, instead of just 2 isolated events -- I think Diane would've been a good candidate.
the romance
i romanced steph, ofc, but i was surprised during the game how drawn i was to ryan too -- i really liked that Drama of him being the one who cut Gabe free, as well as later the drama of him being Jed's son. UNTIL HE DIDN'T BELIEVE ME... that made me mad lmfao, i have to learn what to do to make him believe me before i play a Ryan route bc i'll kill him lmfao.
the steph/alex romance was sweet... it didn't really, like, Consume Me as a ship, but by the end of the game I was still "aww"ing at their moments in the flashforward. steph was more rounded and flawed than i thought she might be, which i really appreciated! i was worried they'd just make her perfect idealized gf, but she has a bit of a temper and is kind of tempestuous and stuff... liked it. loved her standing up for alex so fiercely and immediately at the council meeting <3 and my main reservation about her in ep 4 was that i wanted alex to stay in haven, so when she offered to stay i was thrilled LOL
one semi-complaint i had was that something i loved so much about lis1 was how max and chloe's relationship was central to the entire game and story, it wasn't some extra thing on the side, it WAS the game... whereas here, the romance routes, especially steph's, felt like sidequests. I wish they'd found a way to incorporate those relationships a bit more into the main goings-on. I also wanted to spend more time with either romance option to feel like I knew them better -- splitting the time between Steph and Ryan means that I came away feeling like I didn't get quite as much of either of them as I would've liked, vs spending almost the entire game with Chloe lol.
however, this ended up not really bothering me too much because I DID really like the core mystery and themes, the exploration of grief and Emotion, etc.
other characters
considering everyone knew going into the game that gabe was going to die, i was impressed with how they did it, and how they managed to get me attached to gabe in a mere single episode. it's a tall order to introduce a character designed to die, who your audience KNOWS is going to die, and still make them work.
i thought this supporting cast was ... maybe the strongest in the franchise? or at least, they created scenarios where i felt invested in multiple people in the town, and was genuinely trying to build decent relationships with most of them. duckie cracked me tf up, i liked eleanor and riley, even diane and jeb were good for their roles. (fuck pike. i signed ur stupid thing and left your emotions alone and you still won't do shit? ACAB!!!) the choice to stay in haven or leave was a little harder than i expected honestly, considering how quickly i let arcadia bay burn to the ground lmfao.
gameplay/etc
also i know the whole internet has been dunking on "empathy" as a super power since the game was announced, and i get that it sounds corny and looks corny in the trailers, but i thought how they did it was really cool. i wish they'd branded it "Mindreading" more than empathy tbh because a lot of the cooler elements of it are more along those lines... using her power to manipulate people, potentially taking people's emotions away and what that does to them... very interesting imo!
i really liked the memory feature!!! cool way to give us character exposition and inform the story while encouraging exploration. finally a collectible that like, expands the story, instead of chloe drawing butts on the wall and sean taking 10 years to draw something.
it's definitely the most evolved-feeling LIS game, which it should be, given it's the newest. graphics looked really nice, loved getting to see the characters actually emote, even if there are still some scenes that were a lil comically blank-faced -- usually NPCs. i actually noticed this with Jed the most, which in retrospect maybe was somewhat intentional?
i had a number of visual glitches, nothing major but a little silly, like T-posing Alex, npcs t-posing in the windows, etc. i'm sure they'll get patched out soon.
anyway... i rly liked this game, i'm excited for the steph dlc and finally feel like i have reason to be optimistic about future LIS instalments. hooray!
