She recalled that John was walking unsteadily toward the parking lot when suddenly he cast a drunken look over his shoulder at Jesse Ed Davis. Running over to him, Lennon gave Jesse Ed a passionate kiss on the mouth. Not to be outdone, Jesse Ed grabbed John and kissed him back. Lennon screamed, “F****t!” — and knocked Jesse flat on his ass.

John spreading rumours: John (and Yoko) had a propensity for intentionally spreading rumours about his sexuality, with many people claiming that he found it funny. Multiple people refused to believe his own words about his experiences or willingness with men.
John told me he had had a one-night stand with Brian, on a holiday with him in Spain, when Brian had invited him out, a few days after the birth of Julian in 1963, leaving Cyn alone. I mentioned this brief holiday in the book, but not what John had alleged had taken place. Partly, I didn't really believe it, though John was daft enough to try almost anything once. John was certainly not homosexual, and this boast, or lie, would have given the wrong impression. It was also not fair on Cynthia, his then wife.

On the other hand, he supposedly hated the rumours:

Unfortunately, certain Liverpool acquaintances (who had no way of knowing that there was a kernel of truth to their allegations) wouldn't let John hear the end of it. All in good fun, no doubt, but John was still too enamored of his macho self-image to take lightly any inference that he was anything less than 100 percent heterosexual.

ok so in an AU of my AU where ninakate happens, it all starts after nina is stabbed by jeff. they make her heal in the proxy cabin cuz theyre worried jeff will break into ninas apartment and finish the job(he has no interest in doing that tho). tim/brian/toby/jack are busy with zalgoid issues, SO kate sorta...keeps watch on nina while she heals. cuz of that, nina starts latching onto kate. between kate cleaning the stab wound, bringing her water, wrapping her up in gauze, nina crying into kates arms unprompted, asking kate to sleep in the same bed with her cuz she cant sleep, nina asking kate quiet questions for hours while the radio hums and rain pours outside... they share an awkward, "meaningless" kiss. nina blamed it on emotions running high. kate didnt know what to blame

"you can say that we are nothing" after the kiss, nina would probably be like 'we should go to sleep' and the next morning laugh about it and tease kate and be like "thats so funny, i never kissed a girl like that before. was that your first kiss? oh my god kate are you serious?! we should probably keep that between us, huh? its okay, it wont happen again!" and kates just nodding along while her brain is going 100mph. but kates perceptive as hell and she'd easily see all the little changes that happen afterwards. nina's gaze falling, her hands lingering, little comments she makes. and it'd make kate feel kinda stupid. "guess im the fool, with her arms out like an angel through the car sunroof" toby ends up 'inheriting' an old rusty red pickup truck from tim. i doubt it would have a sun roof, but i could see toby and nat up front, while nina and kate are in the back (like, the BACK bed of the truck). nina would be giggling, tilting her head back and her hair is flying like crazy and her arms are out and kate cannoooot get that damn kiss out of her head, especially when nina looks like that.

im thinking maybe it happens again. the group was hanging out, but nat and toby went off somewhere else, leaving nina and kate together. and kate offers to walk nina home, but ninas like 'what if i spend the night instead?' and kates immediately like Oh jesus christ okay. and they talk . and chat. and banter. and nina would bring up that stupid kiss and say something about 'i wouldnt mind doing that again. i mean, as friends.' and kates head is spinning.

and despite all of this, nina is still in a bad headspace. before, during, and after her relationship with jeff, she has HORRIBLY low self esteem and a need for attention/validation, and she will seek it out anywhere. she'd blame it on a million and one things "oh its just for fun, oh i was just drunk, oh its not that serious, he was cute, i got his number!". especially when trying to heal her bruised ego after the whole jeff thing (alongside a few huge arguments with toby calling her out on her BS). and kate listens, and even though she's really blunt and straightforward, she doesnt feel mean. not like toby or nat or jack. so even when kates like "that doesnt make sense" "that seems stupid though" "why would you do that" ninas just laughing and being like "it just felt right in the moment! im having fun, kate!". she thinks kate just doesnt get it, on account of never being in a relationship, but kate knows whats going on. she knows why nina is the way that she is, but all she has to say is . GOODLUCK LMFAO. shes not here to control or convince or plead with anybody, and def not nina. and i think that would kinda irk nina a little. she'd kiss kate, then a couple nights later talk about a guy she met at a bar, and kate just side eyes her and is like 'have fun' and nina wishes there was more

ok whether their kisses turn into anything else, i think theyd both continually agree to keep it a secret from everyone else. it would just be a huge mess that neither of them want to address, especially kate dealing with toby. but i think once kate starts getting a little affection and whatnot that she's never received (she's been in the chaser mode for over half her life, mind you), it would feel incredibly suffocating but also incredibly freeing. like she feels like something new has opened up to her, something that she got locked out of years ago. and nina has the key, unfortunately

i know "the feeling" is more about being into girls and how you cant hide from it, but i dont think the whole lesbianism thing would be their issue. in a ninakate interpretation of the song, i think 'the feeling' is either ninas issues with romance and self worth, kates ache to be with someone despite thinking she has no right to it, ninas guilt for leading kate on, and of course their literal romantic feelings...

I’ve been thinking about the auction for ages, just turning it around in my head constantly. My instant guy reaction was to be horrified, and then people online made me think I was being unreasonable. And I just kept going back and forth unsure, but Brian’s message I think helped clear my head. And I think I’ve figured out what bothers me the most about all this. Because my first initial reaction was mostly just emotion. Mostly just “but that is awful!” Especially hearing about the fucking mustache comb. Like you KNOW what kind of freaks are out there. If Freddie hadn’t been a celeb I’d probably honestly say yeah sure sell it whatever. But he was a celeb, and there’s a plethora of weirdos who would want that. You have to take that kind of thing into account.
I’ll also be honest, I don’t actually give a fuck about the furniture and art being sold. Actually if it was the interior design stuff being auctioned off I probably would have shrugged. Like oh well. It’s just a couch, and a vase or whatever (very nice very expensive furniture and decoration but you know, they don’t represent Freddie imo). The clothes, the piano, the lyrics and photos, the very personal effects (mustache comb which I will never stop harping on) that’s what bothers me. It’s because it shows an utter disregard for Freddie’s legacy. Freddie is not only a famous and legendary musician, but classic and historical. He is one of the biggest musicians there will ever be in human history (and that’s not even an exaggeration in the slightest!), and you’re just selling his handwritten lyrics etc to the highest bidder with no regard for its historical value. I’m reminded of Indiana Jones. “It belongs in a museum!”
I don’t think anybody is saying to turn Garden Lodge into a Graceland. Freddie would have been horrified at that idea with how private he was. But to not offer Queen (the only her legendary musicians in this equation who will also be in/are in the history books) even some of the the lyrics…
I think for literal historical reasons it’s a problem to be selling these lyrics and some of these clothes to randos.
Also there is a way to display this stuff properly. Everybody it seems jumps to “well Freddie wouldn’t want a Graceland.” Like yeah of course not. But there is (maybe was, not sure it’s still up) a Nirvana exhibit, which Kurt Cobain’s family had a big hand in. And it displays some important objects for the public, including some of Kurt’s clothes (which were not nearly as flashy/high fashion as Freddie’s, albeit still iconic). And I also think of again, how gracefully Frances Bean Cobain (Kurt’s daughter) who has the majority of his estate, handles his legacy, and seems on very good terms with the other band members. The literal only hiccup I can think of isn’t even her fault. Kurt’s guitar was auctioned off after being stolen from her by her ex husband, and she fought to get it back.
Anyway, I think there was a way to handle this. To auction off some of Freddie’s goods, like furniture and stuff that isn’t actually important to his legacy, and still get a hefty price. Hell, maybe even sell a shirt or two that is a bit more important. But then handle the placement of the more important materials more delicately. Hell, you could still maybe even make some money depending on how you arrange where it goes.
Yeah, that's pretty much what it comes down to. I don't care much about the furniture and décor, either, and I think most people don't. Those are things that were irrelevant to his work, just things to fill up a house. I've been saying for weeks now that selling the things which directly have to do with Freddie's music, such as his lyrics, instruments, and stage costumes, is indicative of a complete and utter disregard for his life's work, impact, and legacy as a musician. It says a lot when randos who never know Freddie think, "Wow, his lyrics should be in a museum" but the woman who the media has painted as the Only One who ever understood Freddie saw no value in these items outside of dollar signs. It's just very disrespectful.
No one is arguing that the lyrics and costumes of Freddie's that are already on display at the Montreux museum or other exhibitions aren't what he would've wanted, so these people defending the auction with "BuT FrEDDiE WOuLDn'T HavE WanTED--"are just annoying.
And to me, what's equally scummy is how there was zero consideration for Freddie's living loved ones. That was one of my immediate thoughts when I first heard of the auction. Mary clearly doesn't view Freddie's lyrics, instruments, or costumes as part of Queen's larger legacy. It's both disrespectful to the band as individuals, and to Queen as a whole. It's like she really never gave a shit about Queen, Freddie's baby, and of course she certainly never gave a shit about anyone else in his life, no matter how close he was to them (and you could argue the closer they were to Freddie, the more she resented them). And it's the very personal items, too, not just the mustache comb, but the personal photos of the band hanging out in the pool or the photos of Freddie and Anita in kimonos at Garden Lodge which shouldn't be sold without asking those actually in the pictures first. It's shitty that the band and Freddie's other loved ones would even be put in the position of having to purchase photographs that they are in.
Anyway, the whole thing is really shitty to both Freddie's legacy as a musician and his loved ones. Plain and simple.

Authoritarian prime minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary visited former president Trump in Florida on Friday, and on Sunday, Orbán assured Hungarian state media that Trump “will not give a penny in the Ukraine-Russia war. Therefore, the war will end, because it is obvious that Ukraine can not stand on its own feet.” Russian state media gloated at the news, and that Trump’s MAGA allies in Congress are already helping him end support for Ukraine. 
President Joe Biden and a strong majority of lawmakers in both chambers of Congress, as well as defense officials, support appropriating more aid to Ukraine, believing its defense is crucial to America’s national security. Today, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin once again called such aid “critical.” 
The Senate passed a national security supplemental bill early in the morning on February 13, by a strong bipartisan vote of 70 to 29. The bill would be expected to pass the House, but House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), a Trump loyalist, refuses to bring it up for a vote. 
Trump loyalists have been obstructing aid to Ukraine since President Joe Biden asked for it in October 2023. Their insistence that they would not address the national security needs of the U.S. in Ukraine until they were addressed at the border now sure looks like a smokescreen to help Russian president Vladimir Putin take Ukraine, a plan that would explain why Trump urged Republicans to kill the national security supplemental bill even when it included a strong border component that favored Republican positions. 
It appears as though Trump is deliberately undermining the national security of the United States.
In excerpts from his forthcoming book that appeared on the CNN website today, journalist Jim Sciutto reported conversations with Trump’s second chief of staff, General John Kelly, and Trump’s third national security advisor, John Bolton, in which the men recounted Trump’s fondness for dictators. “He views himself as a big guy,” Bolton told Sciutto. “He likes dealing with other big guys, and big guys like Erdogan in Turkey get to put people in jail and you don’t have to ask anybody’s permission. He kind of likes that.” “He’s not a tough guy by any means, but in fact quite the opposite,” Kelly said. “But that’s how he envisions himself.”
Kelly noted that Trump praised Hitler and what he thought was the loyalty of Hitler’s generals (some of whom actually tried to assassinate him), but both Kelly and Bolton noted that he “most consistently lavished praise on Russian President Vladimir Putin.” Certainly, Trump prizes loyalty to himself: today Alex Isenstadt of Politico reported a “bloodbath” at the Republican National Committee as the incoming Trump loyalists are pushing out more than 60 RNC officials and staffers to make sure everyone is “aligned” with Trump. 
An exclusive interview today by Katelyn Polantz, Kaitlan Collins, and Jeremy Herb of CNN revealed that Brian Butler, who worked at Mar-a-Lago for twenty years, has come forward to give the public the same information he told to investigators looking into Trump’s theft of classified documents. On June 3, 2022, the day Trump and his family were scheduled to fly to New Jersey for the summer, Trump’s aide Walt Nauta asked Butler if he could borrow a car from the Mar-a-Lago car service, although Butler and his valets usually handled getting the Trump family luggage onto the plane. June 3 was the same day Trump and his lawyer were meeting with officials from the Department of Justice at Mar-a-Lago to arrange for Trump to turn over national security documents. 
Butler loaded a vehicle with the luggage, then met Nauta and Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira—at the time a close friend of Butler—driving a vehicle loaded with bankers boxes, at the West Palm Beach airport. Butler says he didn’t know the bankers boxes contained anything unusual, and he helped Nauta load the plane with the boxes as well as the luggage. “They were the boxes that were in the indictment, the white bankers boxes. That’s what I remember loading,” Butler added.
Butler was also present during conversations about hiding evidence from federal authorities. 
While Trump opposes aid to Ukraine, President Joe Biden pushed for it once again when he released his fiscal year 2025 budget today. (There is overlap this year between funding fiscal year 2024 and fiscal year 2025 because House Republicans have been unable to agree to last year’s appropriations bills. Those are supposed to be done before October 1, when the new fiscal year starts.)
In addition to funding for Ukraine, the president’s $7.3 trillion budget covers Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans’ benefits, all of which are mandatory, and expands investment in health care, child care, and housing. Biden would pay for all this—and reduce the deficit by $3 trillion over the next ten years—with higher taxes on those making more than $400,000 a year and on corporations. 
In his defense of the middle class as the engine of economic growth and his declaration that the days of trickle-down economics are over, Biden sounds much like Democratic president Franklin Delano Roosevelt did when he ushered in the New Deal in the 1930s. In that era, Roosevelt and his Democratic allies replaced a government that worked for men of property with one that worked for ordinary Americans.
There were other echoes of the FDR administration today as Trump’s undermining of aid to Ukraine has become clear. Ukraine stands between an aggressive Russian dictator and a democratic Europe.  
In the 1930s and 1940s, the U.S. had to decide whether to turn away from those standing against dictators like Hitler, or to stand behind them. There was a strong isolationist impulse in the United States. Some people resented that war industries had made fortunes supplying the devastating weaponry of World War I. Others believed that Hitler’s advance in Europe was a distraction from Asia, where their business interests were entwined. Congress passed laws to keep the U.S. from entanglement in Europe until Germany invaded Poland in 1939. Then Congress allowed other nations to buy munitions from the U.S. so long as they carried them away in their own ships.  
The following year, FDR promised the American people he would not send troops into “any foreign wars.” But in July 1940, newly-appointed British prime minister Winston Churchill asked the U.S. for direct help after Britain lost eleven destroyers in ten days to the German Navy. Roosevelt exchanged 50 destroyers for 99-year leases on certain British bases, but that would not be enough. He asked Congress to provide military aid.
On this date in 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law “An Act to Promote the Defense of the United States.” The new law gave the president wide-ranging authority to sell, give, lease, or lend war supplies to “any country whose defense the President deems vital to the defense of the United States.”
The law defined “war supplies” generously: they ranged from aircraft and boats to guns and tools, to information and technical designs, to food and supplies. The law also gave the president authority to authorize U.S. companies to manufacture such war supplies for other countries whose defense was important to the United States.
This law is the one we know as the Lend-Lease Act, and it was central to the ability of the Allied Powers—those standing against Hitler, Mussolini, and Hirohito—to fight off the Axis Powers who were trying to take over the globe in the 1940s. By the time the law ended on September 20, 1945, supplies worth more than $50 billion in 1940 dollars—equivalent to more than $770 billion today—had gone to the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, France, China, and other allies. 
Four days after he signed the Lend-Lease Act into law, on March 15, 1941, FDR told journalists at the White House Correspondents’ Association, “The big news story of this week is this: The world has been told that we, as a united Nation, realize the danger that confronts us—and that to meet that danger, our democracy has gone into action.”
FDR noted the “superb morale” of the British, who he said were “completely clear in their minds about the one essential fact—that they would rather die…free…than live as slaves.” He continued: “The British people and their Grecian allies need ships. From America, they will get ships. They need planes. From America, they will get planes. From America they need food. From America, they will get food. They need tanks and guns and ammunition and supplies of all kinds. From America, they will get tanks and guns and ammunition and supplies of all kinds….
“And so our country is going to be what our people have proclaimed it must be—the arsenal of democracy…. Never, in all our history, have Americans faced a job so well worth while.”

Understand that you can have anything in the world if you wanted it, but you have to believe it and you have to take the necessary steps to obtain it, and secure it. You can’t take these material things with you when you go, so don’t put so much value on materialistic stuff. I understand you want the luxury, you want the nice things but cherish all the other areas of life as well. I do see some of you will be reaching a goal or completing a cycle and you will soon be able to celebrate. Be careful with overindulgence but enjoy. May more money and blessings continue to shower into your life.

It’s been, as Brian Dietzen puts it, “a tough few years” for Dr. Jimmy Palmer on NCIS, but fortunately, his character is also quite often optimistic.
“He’s lost his wife. Then, with the shakeup of the team and Gibbs [Mark Harmon] leaving, our team went through some changes. That said, Jimmy’s also fallen in love,” Dietzen tells TV Insider. And like us, he’s a fan of Jimmy’s relationship with Special Agent Jessica Knight (Katrina Law). “I love doing scenes with Katrina Law. She’s just one of the most terrific actresses, and we tend to play together very, very well.”
Their romance is going so well that it’s now time for one of the next steps: meeting the family. Specifically, her father (Russell Wong)—an NCIS agent in the Far East Field Office—is coming for a visit. “Everything doesn’t necessarily go according to plan, without giving too much away about what’s going to happen, but that’s NCIS, right? Nothing can go exactly as planned,” Dietzen previews.
“But as we’ve seen with Jimmy and Jessica over the last year and a half, there have been a few roadblocks along the way, and there have been a few bumps in the road on their journey towards blurting out ‘I love you’ in the squad room,” he continues. “This could be one of the more important times within their relationship that we’ll see to say, what is going to come next and who are we together? This episode and meeting her family is going to bring up a lot of questions of, what are we going to do? And while I won’t answer what their conclusions are—in fact, I don’t think the episode does, if I’m being honest—it does open a lot of doors and opens a lot of questions for the future.”
Before that, and after the heavy, heartbreaking tribute to Ducky and the late David McCallum (co-written by Dietzen), the team is going to engage in Walk-a-Mile Day, which sees them switching jobs at work, in the February 26 episode. That has to lend itself to some fun moments. But what about Jimmy? It’s not like just anyone can do the medical examiner’s job.
“Here’s the thing: If you’re going to walk a mile in Jimmy Palmer’s shoes, the good part is you’re a doctor, but you’re not going to kill anybody, so if you mess up, what’s the worst that can happen? You’re going to misplace an organ or that sort of thing,” says Dietzen. “But yes, Jimmy’s going to try out a different job on Walk-a-Mile Day, and I won’t reveal what it is, but it’s something that you wouldn’t really suspect Jimmy would do or enjoy or do well, and I think that’s why it’s was chosen and it’s quite fun.”
Beyond that, Dietzen promises that “there’s going to be a lot happening” for Jimmy. “What’s great about this character that I’ve always loved is that there’s always optimism in this guy’s heart, and the glass is always half overflowing. So you’re going to get that optimism. You’re going to get that ‘yes, we can’ sort of thing. And that’s going to be challenged a few times over the course of this season in potentially some pretty big ways. We got some big stuff coming up for our guy, and it’s going to affect him hugely, but I know Jimmy’s going to be trying to see the bright side of things, even though there’s going to be a lot more challenges thrown his way.”
Also coming up is the 1,000th episode in the NCIS franchise, airing April 15. “Is that nuts, or what?” Dietzen says in disbelief. “We’re not like a daytime soap where we get a couple hundred of these a year. We only get 19, 22, something like that. It’s wild.” The episode is written by Christopher Waild, “who’s one of our best writers,” Dietzen raves. “A lot of our writers are the best writers, but Chris is just wonderful at this, and he’s also very encyclopedic when it comes to our show. He really loves this show, its history, and everything. So I think he’s just the absolute perfect person to write it.”

had a literal epiphany yesterday at like 2 in the morning and came up with a Dreamling AU that will send me straight into hell. (jesus!hob x dream as his usual self)
so anyway may I present to you the first dialoge snippet 🫴

He answers and juts his chin out, broadens his shoulders as if he's fighting a real battle and not just one of wits.
"Very insightful for a fisherman from galilea."
Hobab snorts at Oneiros' dry response and takes another swig of his mug. He's impetuous with that, too. Drinks so fast that wine escapes his lips and runs down his throat in glittering rivulets.
"I am many things, my dear Outis, a fisher, a carpenter, occasional sheperd of sheep and pigs." "And a sinner?"
Oneiros asks, and tilts his head in a manner that could be an insult or an invitation. Alluring him to another night in the embrace of his arms or tempting Hobab to betray himself, to deny his own words. Challenging him to insult himself as he insulted his fellow men or to claim the same righteous honour, he judged them for clinging to.
But Hobab's lips spring into a smile, as easy as foal to its mother. His face painted in a gentle red by the oil lamp's shine as he raises his mug to the heavens above.
"And a sinner!" He echoes Oneiros' words into the tavern.
(Please keep in mind that I wrote this while white specks appeared at the edge of my vision) (yes this is going to be a gruesome mixture from life of brian, that one amazing art of @alexxuun about hope!hob being jesus and the literal bible)

Strategy for arguing against terfs
Every couple of paragraphs, say something that is intended to place trans women into the category of women rather than specifically differentiating them as trans women.
Ways to do this:
Call the terf a misogynist
Tell them that not all women agree with them
Say that women belong in women's spaces
By doing this, you can very easily confuse them because terfs categorize afab and trans women as entirely disconnected groups in their heads, and putting them together causes a very entertaining short-circuit.
(note: it does not work if you say something like "trans women are women too". That is something they are prepared against. You have to force them to think in your headspace. If this works correctly, then you should get a reaction which includes some variation of "kys". This is the factory default for terfs.)

1 Chronicles 1:1-2:17, Acts 23:11-35, Psalms 3:1-8, Proverbs 18:14-15
Today is the 5th day of July welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I am Brian it is great to be here with you today as we gather together and move forward taking the next step on this adventure that’s leading us through the Bible. And we’re moving into some new territory, new but familiar territory actually. We finished the book of second Kings yesterday and the book of second Kings ends with Babylon conquering the kingdom of Judah and carrying its people into exile and Jerusalem including the temple of the Lord being destroyed, which effectively ends the chronicling of kings, right? There's no more king in Israel and there is no more king in Judah. There are no more kings to chronicle, which brings us to the books of Chronicles.
Introduction to the book of Chronicles:
And we’re going to go back through some of the same stories at the same time period. It's just going to be through a little bit of a different lens. And, so, we don't know who wrote the book of Chronicles. We do know they were one text and then were broken apart, just like the books of Samuel, ad the books of Kings. And there is a Jewish tradition that suggests that Ezra the priest and scribe was involved. But there isn't a complete consensus on that or the time period. It's thought that the books of Chronicles were probably penned about four centuries…400, 450 years before Jesus came and that is the time period of Ezra. And as I was just mentioning, we’re covering a lot of the same stories and territory that we covered in the books of Samuel in the books of Kings, but the lens is shifted away from royalty or the monarchy and this…these stories are seen through the lens of the priesthood, those who are charged with reminding the people who they are and who God is and where they're going. And, so, a lot of the same stories with the little bit of a different complexion. So, as we launch in today and…and continue forward these...the first section of the book of first Chronicles is a lot of genealogy. And this is a really interesting point that we've reached in the Bible, at least for me. It's a very memorable thing. I mean name after name after name who begat who is a tedious part of the Bible for most people. And this genealogy section or the genealogy sections of the Bible are often sort of skipped over, like what in the world do I need to try to sound out names I cannot pronounce. I don't know anybody with any of those names and these people lived thousands of years ago. How is the story connected to my story? Why do I need to actually read these names? But if we begin to understand what's happening it does become meaningful. And all you have to do is sort of just look back a day, just look back a couple of days back when we were reading second Kings and remember our journey through Samuel and Kings and the way that that story ends is that the northern kingdom of Israel is carried into exile by the Assyrian Empire and the southern kingdom of Judah is conquered and carried into exile by the Babylonian Empire. These are conquests of kingdom's, military overthrow of a people who are then deported from their homeland. And it's not like the enemy sat down with a pen and paper trying to document who belongs to who. People were sent away into exile in waves, and nobody had any control over it. If you were the conquered people, you did what you were told, or you die. And many people did die. And people died without their families knowing they had died. And people's families were split apart and sent in different directions. This is exile. This is being conquered. And, so, they're being re-settled into other areas. These genealogies that we’re about to read in first Chronicles is an attempt to remember who they are and where they came from and how they’re knit together as a family and to remember those who are lost. And, so, every year we come to this particular territory I…I remember the different kinds of museums that I have attended, that are there for remembrance, are there because an atrocity of some sort happened and people need to not forget what happened and not forget who was lost. So, I mean like…I’ve…I’ve talked about Holocaust museums in the past. I am thinking right now of the time I spent in Rwanda in Africa many years ago and visiting the different sites where genocide had taken place. And actually, it's very stark, where the bones of the people that were killed in the genocide in Rwanda are preserved. And you can just…you know…walk into a room full of skulls of people who had died and another room of clothing that people were wearing when they died and rooms full of pictures of those who were lost so that family members who never knew what happened can come and see if they can find that name or remember the connections. And every time that I've been in a place like this there is this kind of contemplative space, a room that's starkly lit, like the one that I'm thinking of in Rwanda had starkly lit. It's got a very tall ceiling. It's circular and floor-to-ceiling it's pictures of people who were lost in the genocide. And it's a quiet room. It's not supposed to be a room to tell jokes and stuff. It's a somber event to be in there. And you can sit down, and you begin to realize there is the voice of a woman coming through the speakers very softly saying the name's, repeating the names of the people that were lost over and over and over so that this will never happen again. And, so, that it can be remembered and so that they can be remembered. And, so, if we put ourselves kind of in that position with that kind of posture understanding that this genealogy is in many ways a reconstruction of who they were and how they're connected after such a terrible thing had happened to both the northern and the southern kingdoms, then we can find some meaning in the territory that we’re moving into. And, so, with that said, we will begin the book of second Chronicles. Chapter 1 verse 1 through 2 verse 17. And we will begin at the beginning with the first man.
Commentary:
Okay. So, we have already talked about the new territory we moved into in the Old Testament as we began first Chronicles. And, so, we have the lay of the land there. And just briefly just to point out what's going on in the book of Acts, Paul went to Jerusalem as it turns out. We remember as he was moving in that direction, he was being warned every step of the way and there was only trouble in front of him. And we remember those sad goodbyes on the docks as they're setting sail, people crying and Paul saying, you know, we’re never going to see each other face-to-face again. So super bittersweet on this journey back to Jerusalem. And Paul gets back to Jerusalem, but he's not free for very long. He's snatched up and grabbed in a mob formed and just, they’re trying to kill him and then the Romans find out that he's a Roman citizen, so they have to protect them, which is interesting. It's the Romans now protecting Paul from the Jewish people who are his people. And in today's reading Paul leaves Jerusalem. Like he wasn't there that long. And the commotion that was getting stirred up was significant. I would say, at least in my opinion…and you may have a different opinion, but if you have 40 people literally pledging themselves not to eat or drink until they have killed you that's a pretty serious thing. And, so, as it turns out Paul is led out of the city in the evening after dark under heavy guard and sent on his way to the coast to Caesarea. And Caesarea was a very cosmopolitan very new city on the coast, a jewel, a beautiful place. And the ruins are extravagant until today. But at the time this would've been a playground for Romans, a place to go. That was the intention, to make a destination place in the Roman province of Syria. This is also the place if we remember from just a little bit earlier in the book of Acts that the apostle Peter was led to go in order to share the good news with the Roman centurion Cornelius and his family. So, this is where Paul is on his way, and this is not a dominant Jewish city. This is a dominantly Roman city. And, so, a significant less chance of Paul being assassinated before he can even stand trial. But as we learned, they had a stop on the way and that was in a city called Antipatris. And the ruins of Antipatris still remain. Very fascinating place, at least to me. I’ve been there a few times because there is the Roman road that still kind of exists, pieces of it going into the city, and there are like chariot tracks from repeated use from that era where you can still see where the chariots kinda ground their way into the road. I remember standing there just going, man this…this is how Paul got into this city on his way to Caesarea, and these chariot tracks, there from that time. They're not just singular chariot that tracks, they’re like a worn into the stonework. So, it's repeated use. But it’s just so fascinating to just look at that and go, man I’m touching the Bible here. This is this is where that happened. And I find that to be…even as I talk about it, like lifts something in me. It's like touching these places and realizing these are real stories that really happened is really meaningful. Nevertheless, so Paul stops in Antipatris and then on to Caesarea which is where we leave him today. So, his journey to Jerusalem, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit and against all of the people that were warning him away happened and he was there just briefly and now he is no longer in Jerusalem. We are on the Mediterranean coast in the city of Caesarea Marittima. So, it seems like Paul, at least the fear of immediate death has been removed from Paul. We’ll have to see how this plays out as we continue the story tomorrow.

Father, we love You. We thank You for Your word. We thank You for these new territories that we get to investigate and hear about and learn of and people that we get to meet and we get to watch You in the middle of all of it realizing You are in the middle of all that's going on among us. May we have five days to see and ears to hear exactly that. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

And I remember last week coming and telling the story of how he got there and just wondering if anyone was interested in going and what that would look like and it is sold out. And faster by far than anticipated and left us kind of scurrying going, what do we…how we handle all this getting our feet under is now and it is sold out and there is a little bit of a wait list. Our partner and keeper of logistics and organization told me this is the fastest any tour has ever sold out for us. So, Israel 2023 is full and there is a wait list at this point.
The other thing that we are talking about can't be sold out. Every one that can participate and that is the day after tomorrow is our own Global Campfire holiday. Every seventh of July we call it the Daily Audio Bible long walk. And that is exactly what it is. We take a day in the middle of the year, it happens to be 7th day of July and kinda set it aside realizing we've made it to the midpoint of the year. We have half of the year to go. We have come a long way in the first half of the year, and we have a ways to go in the second half and we have learned from the Scriptures and from our life experience we can be heading in a certain direction and get off by a degree or two, and end up somewhere totally different than we were planning to go. And, so, sort of taking some time to reorient, reprioritize, go out in the beauty of God's world that He has created for us to enjoy and drink it all in, enjoying the serenity, enjoying the silence, realizing that life is abounding everywhere we look, and having a long walk, thinking these things over. What's important? How have I gotten off track? And saying everything that we never have time to say to God, talking about everything like we had a whole day with God. Imagine. But we do and we’re setting it aside and we’ll say all we need to say and hear all that we need to hear and move into our second half of the year. And that is a very personal thing to do. It is a very intentional thing to do. And that is what we’ll be doing on the seventh the day after tomorrow. And we’ll make this such a beautiful community experience. And we will put a post on the Daily Audio Bible Facebook page that's facebook.com/dailyaudiobible for the long walk. And as you go and do your long walk, you’ll probably want to take a picture, maybe you’ll want to take a video, something to remember the time that you had and you can come back to that post and share your pictures, share your videos, share your stories. And then all the sudden we get to participate in each other's long walks look through little windows called pictures but look through little windows of what the world looks like today all over the world and the beauty of God's creation and how He is speaking to us all over the world. So, make plans for that, the day after tomorrow. I've been obsessed with the Smile sessions for a bit now. Actually, I've been obsessed with them for about half my life, but my obsession tends to resurface when I'm under high stress, and here we are! Go ahead and click the read more if you care to.
I became aware of the Beach Boys' Smile project shortly before the release of Brian Wilson Presents Smile, which was consequently the main prism though which I viewed the whole deal. In 2004, BWPS basically descended from on high and presented a complete-seeming suite of songs in an order that seemed more or less untouchable, as integrated as all the pieces were.
Of course, the legend of Smile was such that the album as recorded in 1966/67was unfinished, the songs recorded in pieces and the overall concept anybody's guess. Still, I basically took it for granted that it was finished now, because that was the seemingly official line.
I love BWPS, but even back then I was fascinated by the idea that fans who'd been in the know for the previous thirty-some years had been assembling their own Smile albums out of bootlegs, sketchy documentation, and outright rumor. I didn't really have the wherewithal to dive into bootlegging, and I wanted whatever I put together to sound as polished as possible. So with the mid-aughts magic of iTunes, I put together a mix CD of all the Smile tracks I could find, following the basic track list of BWPS on the assumption that that is what the final result would have been, had the sessions proceeded more smoothly.
My 2005 mix CD of Smile was pretty pedestrian. Probably the weirdest thing I did was decide to stick "Gettin' Hungry" in between "Our Prayer" and "Heroes and Villains," for reasons I cannot even explain to myself. I also substituted "Fall Breaks and Back to Winter" for "Fire," because it was clearly derivative of that track, and again I could not find it on iTunes.
In 2011 the Beach Boys put out an official box set of The Smile Sessions, which more or less duplicates the track listing of BWPS. So I put aside my mix CD and embraced the new-old version.
Now lately, I've been pondering the idea that, had Brian Wilson's arm been sufficiently twisted and Smile been released in 1967, it very likely would not have closely resembled the sequencing he came up with in 2004. There were too many unfinished songs, too many variant possibilities for putting their disjointed segments together, and the whole thing was a good fifteen minutes longer than a typical Beach Boys album of the era. On top of that, there was a long history of assumptions and speculations about where songs would have ended up, and statements over the years from Brian himself, that didn't match with the "final" sequencing.
So I took my 2 CD Smiles Sessions box set, and messed around a bit. My goal was to create a plausible two-sided album that could have sounded relatively complete in 1967, and would have replaced Smiley Smile as the band's 12th studio album in a realistic alternate universe. I also assumed the best case scenario, in which Wilson kept his sanity, the editing was executed competently, and the entire effort was not an unlistenable disaster.
I kept the "Our Prayer/Gee/Heroes and Villains" opening trifecta, because it seemed like something that was intended all along. I also kept "Cabin Essence" as the last track of side one, because there didn't seem to be anything that could follow it.
I dropped "Good Vibrations", though I considered that it could make a good opener for side two (a la Smiley Smile). But in the end I decided to excise it, and imagine that in this universe, "Good Vibrations" was only a non-album single. In its place, I opened side two with "You're Welcome," which didn't make the BWPS cut in 2004, but seemed to be of a piece with "Our Prayer."
On BWPS, "Good Vibrations" closes the album. I put "Surf's Up" there instead, because it is even more impossible to follow than "Cabin Essence", and it seems to have been assumed by most people that that was where it was originally supposed to go. It's where it ended up on the Surf's Up album, anyway.
I had read that "I Wanna Be Around/Workshop" was conceptually meant to represent rebuilding after "Fire," so I took that suggestion and placed it there. Since "Workshop" blends into "Vega-Tables," I moved that there too. But I kept all the "Elements" tracks together on side two, along with "Wonderful" as the first proper song.
I dropped "Look" and "Holidays," because they are unfinished instrumentals and I don't especially enjoy them that way. I considered doing the same with "Love to Say Dada" and "Do You Like Worms," but "Dada" is stronger and I wanted to keep it for the water piece of the elements suite, and the short "Our Prayer" reprise. As for "Worms," I couldn't figure out what to put in its place. I decided to treat it as a reprise of the "Heroes and Villains" theme toward the end of side one, assuming it would have been polished up some more.
I tried to keep a bunch of the fragmentary songs, but I couldn't find a place for "I'm in Great Shape" and I jettisoned it. I replaced it with "He Gives Speeches" because it's silly and I like it better; it wouldn't really have fit on BWPS, but I thought I could sneak it in here after "Heroes and Villains."
Finally, I moved "Child Is Father Of The Man" to side one, because I thought it would be good to put some distance between it and "Surf's Up," and give the reprise in the outro a little more punch.
This version of Smile is 40 minutes, which is still a bit long by mid-60s Beach Boys standards. So even if these were the songs that made the final cut, I imagine that a few minutes would have been edited out here and there. I leave it to any interested commentators to opine as to whether this album would have, in Pepper-esque fashion, changed the course of pop music history.

ramble about my aromantic tendencies cuz im all. confused im SURE theres a word for this i just think im not ready??? i think like. not in a personal way, in a PHYSICAL way like something needs to change before id ever CONSIDER IT, makes me sick otherwise like theres so many things!! so many hurdles and stuff that would deter me from all that nonsense but i still like the idea of it like the idea is so sweet, its why i enjoy it so much in fiction but. in execution? IDK MAN.. freaks me out for so many reasons
romantic love is so cute bro like. its genuinely adorable to me, i love listening to love songs and just feeling the emotion and passion behind all the words, but ummmmmmm. i think realistically im capable? i just think that any attempt wouldnt go well, i dont think i can give someone what they might need, its always been like. okay 1. im going to be OBSESSED with you ill do anything you say ill let you mistreat and abuse me ill do anything for you okay which is not ideal!! not ideal, made for bad people dont want bad people. but?? on the other hand its also like i cant imagine loving another person more than i love my friends, but thats whats expected of me isnt it? i think they wouldnt like it very much if i had an equal amount but like. is it even possible? I REALLY DONT KNOW.. i know ive said it before, i just feel like. love, not platonic not romantic just LOVE pure unlabeled love. what kind of treatment would i give to a partner that i dont already give to my friends? itd go really wrong there im sure, i dont wanna hurt anybody yknow
idk its like such a cute little fantasy tho isnt it? maybe i meet someone and we become friends and then it leads to something more, is going on dates fun? maybe it would be but. i go on dates with my friends!!!!!! like is it different? i guess, but im out with someone i love i dont see how it could be much different
sometimes it feels like people like me dont get that. its hard to be good enough for someone else, like. i know theres like 8 billion people in the world but its always. im too fat im trans im not hot enough im too mentally ill im too awkward too. TOO EVERYTHING!! so on top of like. how can someone possible be more than what i already have, i have to be good enough too!!!!! so much work, i honestly. after brian, i was so content to just fall back on fictional characters, i know it sounds silly but self shipping LITERALLY saved my life i was hanging by a thread after him and then i found a coping mechanism that made me feel so good
i think its uncertainty, when it comes to fictional relationship? i make the rules, the scenarios, its perfect for me but. in real life you cant do that, im thrown in BLIND. i know its part of life, you learn and grow together but erm... im autistic please dont do this to me PLEASE if i plan out my conversation at a grocery store with the clerk and im STILL THROWN OFF... yeeowch!!
thats the thing im very offputting to other people like. something about me, i can see it in their eyes, see the way they kinda. like im. somethings all wrong with me!!!! they dont like it, i cant imagine myself being charming but.. maybe if i start T, ill be less. dreadfully anxious about seeing other people, then maybe ill flourish a little more. we'll see, it still freaks me out the thought of loving someone more than my friends like TO ME i dont think its possible and i dont want to find out about it okay it makes me sick it feels like betrayal, never tell me otherwise or ill feel awful, its betrayal to me!!!! cuz i want to give my friends the most i can give, they deserve it, so like. what, am i supposed to give less? give someone else more?? like ew who are you1!!! i dont need you i just need my besties thats all i need :] but its still a nice thought isnt it? its cute
i think i just have like a limit on the amount of people i can know at one time, ive always wanted more friends and i have more friends now!! sooo i dont realy need anyone else then? its very easy for me to feel satisfied with what i have, of course i am!!! grateful even!!!! so im like. it just doesnt matter so much to me. nice thought but i dont see it happening like i dont really WANT it to happen like i do but also. like. listen.
am i still gonna throw down to little love songs? absolutely yes sir!! to me tho like its feelings i can easily project onto my friends SKFJS like how me and my bestie kiss eachother on the head okay. because i loooooove them, its so easy because i love them!! its a love song, i dont care what kind of love its made for, i feel love and ill hear it how i want :] ITS. its some weird social bullshit okay, who says we cant? who says we cant go on little friend dates and kiss and hug and be in love with eachother while also being JUST friends? WHO SAYS!!!! its what i dont get, theres some disconnect between romantic and platonic love that i dont see at all. why should one be more valued than the other? hogwash okay its gobbledygook its. nonsense!!! im glad i dont see it that way, the hard part is finding other people who also dont see it that way, i realize my feelings on it arent STANDARD.. still, im satisfied. i have a lot of love to give and im always allowed to give it, isnt that so wonderful?

I saw somewhere that one of the reasons why people hated Michael is because he's too whiny and rude towards Justin. But imagine being in his shoes, tho. As someone who has a best friend I'm willing to ride or die for, I also think anyone will never be good for my best friend and I'm always suspicious towards anybody lol. Because I knew how hard they've worked, how much they suffered and how long of a journey it was for them to get this level of somewhat peace in their life. If anyone is ever trying to give them more stress in any way, I'm suddenly so pissed lol. For people who doesnt get it, Michael could definetely could come across as "posessive" & "overthinking" (the whole narrative of "He wanna fuck Brian so bad its pathetic" doesnt help either, which makes me roll eyes so bad because from time to time, it's mostly Brian that inniciate their physical contacts first so) but you can't help but always looking out for this particular one person that makes your life worth living, when you know they can be reckless like Brian especially. Especially with how escalated Justin's family life situation is after he met Brian. Through Michael's lense, Justin is a stranger with baggages that he doesn't want Brian to carry since he knew and understand Brian already has a lot in his plate. Guaranteed, I can't all justify every thing that Michael said and did in regards to Justin and I'm ok with that (part of liking Michael is to accept that he just makes human mistakes as a grumpy 30 years old gay Italian man lol), but the hatred that he receive literally degrade his existence into just "Another pathetic best friend that's in love with the main character" is just sad to see.
Yeah, I've always thought the idea of Michael being a big old meanie to poor little Justin as a bit overblown. Could Michael be snippy with him? Sure. And he occasionally went too far with some of his words, but his tendency to speak before thinking is one of his character flaws, and should hardly detract from his better qualities.
What a lot of people like to overlook/ignore is the fact that Michael was actually one of the first characters that tried to look out for Justin in a way. I think it's like ep. 2 where Justin comes looking for Brian again and when Brian ducks out on him, Ted and Emmett say that Justin is Brian's problem not theirs. Michael is the only one to act like a responsible adult and not let this teenage kid wander around on his own. He takes him to the diner and makes sure he has a ride home. Of course, it doesn't end very well when Michael tries to warn Justin off Brian. Justin is bratty to Michael in that moment. And Michael does come off jealous and a bit whiny, but I think in some way he was trying to look out for Justin. I don't think he was entirely selfishly motivated. He's probably witnessed Brian break countless hearts over the years, and was trying to save Justin a bit of grief by telling him the truth. He wasn't lying when he told Justin he wasn't Brian's boyfriend. Brian doesn't do boyfriends, he barely does repeats.
Also, I can see how Michael, or anyone in his situation would be annoyed by Justin's sudden and inescapable presence. Imagine being someone close to 30, and one of your friends sleeps with a teenager, and then that teenager shows up at your mother's house. The kid is not only stalking your friend but everyone in his life in hopes of getting closer to him. Anyone would feel a bit overprotective, and a lot frustrated.
And yeah, a lot of people like to downplay Michael's importance in Brian's life, reducing him to the guy with the hopelessly unrequited crush on his friend. But their relationship is so much deeper and more important than that (whether romantic or platonic). imo, if someone doesn't understand Michael's place in Brian's heart, then they just don't understand Brian.

Dazy, Lifeguard, & Illusion Of Choice Live Show Review: 12/4, Cobra Lounge, Chicago

I'm not sure what Dazy does at a faster pace these days: tour or release tunes. Since we caught his Chicago debut of full-band arrangements in January, he's come to town twice more, including last night's stop at the Cobra Lounge. And mere months after releasing OUTOFBODY in 2022, in March, James Goodson shared songs recorded around the same time in the form of the cheekily titled OTHERBODY. The record continued the vibe of Dazy's debut LP, from the "Revolution" crunch of opener "I Know Nothing At All" to the sugary noise of "Every Little Thing". Just two months ago, Dazy shared the Ryan Hemsworth-assisted "Forced Perspective" (Lame-O), a collection of rounded country pop guitar riffs, a chirpy electric beat, and an uneasy, yet anthemic chorus.

Dazy's James Goodson
Always writing and always playing, it must be hard for Goodson to pick a setlist on a nightly basis. A year-plus removed from OUTOFBODY and over two years from MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD: The First 24 Songs, Dazy's set at the Cobra Lounge felt like as close as you can get right now to "the hits," the crowd pumping fists, banging heads, and singing along to favorites "On My Way", "Split", "The Perfect Crime", "Pressure Cooker", and "Invisible Thing". I was just as happy, though, to see Goodson lean into the sweet, softer side of Dazy. "Forced Perspective", with its curly bass and guitar scrapes, was a highlight, as was "Every Little Thing", "could be a country hit" "Rollercoaster Ride", and set closer "Out of Body". "Is that my brain hanging by a thread?" Goodson sang on "Out of Body"; as much as he may have been disassociating at the time of writing the song, his everyday anxieties have certainly provided ample creative fodder for some of the best power pop of the past half-decade.

Lifeguard
Chicago's Lifeguard opened for Dazy, which was perhaps anybody's final chance to see the band in an opening slot at a venue as small as Cobra Lounge. The hyped three-piece, formed in 2019, signed to Matador Records earlier this year. Let's get it out of the way: Yes, drummer Isaac Lowenstein's sister Penelope is in labelmates Horsegirl, and bassist Asher Case's father is Brian Case of FACS (and formerly of Disappears, The Ponys, and 90 Day Men). Thankfully, Lifeguard is a beast of its own, combining chanted vocals with clanging, metallic guitars and dexterous, repetitively pummeling drums. Earlier this year, Matador re-released the band's 2022 EP Crowd Can Talk along with a collection of new material, Dressed in Trenches. Live, Lifeguard showed what they're truly about: off-kilter time signatures, uneven song sections, moments where you can't tell when they're warming up or about to switch gears. When they played "17-18 Lovesong", Case's rounded bass and monotone vocals wiggled around Kai Slater's stabbing guitars and falsetto off-beat harmonies, though the band never let you get too comfortably hypnotized in a groove. They finished with their newest song, the uncharacteristically poppy and straightforward (yet very welcome!) "In The City". You never know what's next with Lifeguard, and they're just getting started.

Illusion of Choice
Starting off the night was another local institution, four-piece shoegaze indie rock band Illusion of Choice. Most of their songs revolved around the atmospheres you'd expect with a genre descriptor like that: Alex Rackow's distorted guitars, Judith Pelkowski's heavy bass lines, Alex Boyajian's mammoth snares, and Tyler Tumminaro's sharp, nasal vocal delivery. Occasionally, they added elements of jangly surf, but for the most part, they chugged along deliberately, like on "Circling the Drain" and standout set closer "Bad Boy". Overall, Illusion of Choice offered an appropriate middle ground between Dazy's hooks and Lifeguard's deconstructed songs.
