“Phil and Techno are selfish”
No. Phil and Techno are extremely generous and kind, but people keep using them and their kindness. If you expect them not to be mad or change their actitude when others disregard or take advantage of that kindness, that's your problem.
And I fear what kind of understanding of friendship you have, too.
“But they are kind to Ranboo, they have favourites!!”
Again, no. That's what happens when you are kind to Techno and Phil, they keep being kind and helping you out. Because that's how friendships work. It's all about reciprocation.
Ranboo hasn't really harmed nor taken advantage of neither of them, (and when he did participate in the Butcher Army he immediately helped Techno out and apologised to him), he goes as far as to defend Phil from Sam or listen to Phil when he needs to talk about Wilbur. Techno has defended Ranboo from the Egg and BBH, Phil has been there for Ranboo when Fundy treated him like a lab rat or when he was panicking and had nowhere to go, too. (Not only because L'manberg was destroyed, but because Quackity wanted to execute him, remember?)
They are friends. They are loyal to eachother.
They have never harmed one another, and are incredibly respectful of eachothers' boundaries and understandings of friendship. They have taken the time to know eachother.
Ranboo has taken the time to see through their exteriors, and in return Phil and Techno have done the same.
Others have tried to do the same too, (Tommy, Fundy...) it's true, but they were never respectful of Techno and Phil's boundaries, and Ranboo understands because people have disrespected his boundaries too.
(
Sure, their friendship isn't perfect! Techno can't handle emotional conversations sometimes, and Phil tends to cope through humour too. Ranboo can't stop himself from catastrophizing, despite Techno and Phil telling him and showing him that they care and are friends!
But still, they are working on it.
They are patient, unassuming and understanding.
And that's why their friendship works.
It also helps that they see the world the same way and that none of them have opposing loyalties as of right now. But that's the whole point, isn't it?
Sides divide people.
But when you are all on the same side, with the same objectives, then it's all good! Especially if the side or organisation you are on won't call you a traitor for not wanting to help the common goal coughcoughL'manbergcoughcough
