after i said i’d leave from social media, i did, but i still wanted to post stuff online as an archive/to be able to show friends my art easier.
i’m doing better mentally now. if you’d like to follow me, i’m at @absintheancandle

so in light of the new tag update thing and also additional stuff in ny Personal IRL life tm im probably gonna go ahead and like. head off social media in general for an indefinite amount of time. may come back but i doubt it.
i'll keep this blog up as an archive though.
however, my art, especially any original concepts i posted on here, may not be used for any circumstances in any way without my permission. just because i'm not exactly here doesn't mean i'm not watching.
me being gone does not mean that it doesn't belong to me anymore. this is not a place for salvage.

hi airlabs is a thing! uhh under the cut there is a lot of information (hopefully) formatted like a document, so! information of Brainjelly John my beloved.
general content warning of uh. mentions of humans being digested via fucked up pink jelly? idk what to tell you man. if this needs to be tagged with stuff go ahead and send in an ask!
also general context to AIRlabs itself, its generally a place meant to research abnormalities and find out what needs to be done with them. keep them contained, if they can be released, or if they can be used for technological advancements of literally any kind. basically the lab’s purpose isn’t to keep them locked up and hidden, it’s just. research them, find out what to do. i’ll probably make a more indepth post about AIRlabs itself someday ;)
ANYWAYS YEAH. LOTSA info under the cut. eventually i’m not going to put these under a cut.
THE BRAINJELLY
[OSR1-CA1-D2]
Lovingly nicknamed 'Brainjelly John' by AIRlabs employ, is an abnormality hosted by AIRlabs, originally found in xxxxxxxx.
[Section 1]
The Brainjelly is a semi-solid mass consisting of a bright pink Jello-like material, albeit slightly more resilient. It requires no support to stay upright and at first glace would give off the impression of being entirely solid. Typically, there is at least one human brain suspended inside of the Brainjelly. The jelly material itself feels cold to the touch and can easily give way when pressure is applied to it.
While the Brainjelly is sentient, the amount it has resembles more that of a crow than of a human. Despite the human brain(s), it's intelligence is equally similar to a crow's. It's ability to "think" seems to come from the jelly itself more so than the brains themselves. Depending on the instance, the Brainjelly can be almost any size, as it can have pieces removed from it of any size, and can grow to a larger size naturally [See section 3] if left alone.
[Section 2]
Removing pieces of the Brainjelly causes one of two possibilities;
1. If you are to remove a piece of the Brainjelly with at least one brain present in the removed jelly, it will continue to act as if it was still a single entity.
2. Likewise, a piece of the Brainjelly with no brains present in the removed jelly ceases to function as a single entity.
In case 1, the removed jelly continues functions as a single entity, continuing to be able to "communicate" with the original section it was removed from. This ability does not seem to be weakened by distance.
In case 2, the removed jelly ceases to be able to "communicate" with the original section, and all existing thought processes are reduced to the most basic instincts. It continues it's other functions in an attempt to grow and gain a brain again, such as "trapping" prey. [see section 3]
[Section 3]
[OSR1]
The Brainjelly has a consistent radial effect. If you are to visually perceive the Brainjelly you will be uncontrollably compelled to "enter" the jelly. We still are not exactly sure why or how this happens, as the Brainjelly does not exactly have any particularly... remarkable features to fixate onto.
EXCEPTIONS TO THE RADIAL EFFECT;
1. If one sees the Brainjelly through a camera, image, window, or any other means of observing the Brainjelly without being in the same room, there will not be any effect whatsoever.
2. If the Brainjelly is smaller than a human, any compulsions in favour of the Brainjelly present cease to be present among humans. However, it does still effect small animals in equal size or smaller to itself. This suggests that the Brainjelly can selectively control it's own effect.
To prevent danger of any Brainjelly compulsions, we heavily suggest wearing any type of eye covering that fully obscures your vision before entering any room with a large amount of jelly present.
[CA1]
Whenever a creature is consumed by the Brainjelly, it slowly gets corroded over time, with dissolved organic material being converted into more jelly to further expand it's size, even if by a small amount. It grows considerably slowly; as such, there is no worry of rapid growth-related safety concerns.
Due to fact the jelly takes around 2-3 full days (48-72 hours) to completely digest a fully grown adult, victims can, in theory, be safely removed from the Brainjelly. [See Closing Notes]
Creatures smaller than a human vary in how long they take to digest based off of their size; mice typically take around 5 hours and large rats around 7 hours. Whenever we tried to test the digestion rate of a cat, Dr. Pokelsky, the owner of said cat, vehemently refused to let us do so.
Additionally, the jelly seems to be able to digest nearly any material put into it, organic or not - yet it will keep human brains intact. This leads us to believe that it somehow can selectively digest what gets trapped within the jelly. Further testing will be required to find out how this is possible, as selective corrosion may be helpful for many uses.
The Brainjelly seems to refuses or is unable to consume anything smaller than a mouse, such as insects. Not only do insects seem to be utterly unaffected by the compelling pull of the jelly, they also simply seem to stick to the jelly for a while before easily leaving, potentially suggesting that they're too small to be able to apply enough pressure to break the surface of the jelly.
While the Brainjelly can consume animals smaller than itself, it seems to prefer to only use human brains for energy.
[Section 4]
As of 02/07/XXXX, the Brainjelly has found a home and a purpose, still within the walls of AIRlabs.
As previously stated, the Brainjelly can communicate with itself no matter the distance, and has the intelligence around the level comparable to a crow - an animal which has been observed to learn and have the ability to understand and solve puzzles. This results in being able to train and use the Brainjelly as a security mainframe throughout nearly every AIRlabs division.
The main hub of AIRlabs has a room dedicated to the Brainjelly, hosting the most amount of mass and brains, routinely fed and harvested of jelly and extra brains to transport to and then use in other locations. The jelly itself is then hooked into a surveillance system, effectively rendering it in near-fully control of all surveillance systems. It is trained to recognize threats and escaped individuals, both Subjects and Abnormalities, along with taught how to manually close and open doors, turn alarms on and off, and to alert higher level security officers of where an issue is occurring.
So far within the past decade, this system has proven to be entirely safe. The Brainjelly is not able to intentionally sabotage and is unable to be bribed. If the Brainjelly were to make a mistake, security personnel and higher level scientists are able to override all manual lockdowns.
[CLOSING NOTES]
As long as the Brainjelly routinely fed, it stays a useful asset to our lab's security system. Any contact with the jelly is strongly inadvisable.
[BRAINJELLY REMOVAL PROTOCOLS CAN BE ACCESSED THROUGH MOST AVAILABLE TERMINALS OR FOUND ON THE SPECIMEN INFO SIGN POSTED AT EVERY MAJOR BRAINJELLY LOCATION. INTENTIONALLY REMOVING SAID INFO SIGN CAN RESULT IN EMPLOYEE TERMINATION.]
- PS. If you fuckers try to feed my cat to this thing again i will literally skin you all alive. -Dr. Pokelsky

kinda long but important <3
hii as i am starting to post more original content as soon as i get this next art done within the next few days, i feel the need to make a really heavy clarification:
this blog is not meant for the especially faint of heart, as i’ll be handling potentially upsetting concepts. while i don’t intend to romanticize situations nor go in depth into them, they will still be present.
my intention isn’t to upset people with these concepts. i do not strive for shock value, i honestly just want to portray these themes in a realistic light - presented as fact to a character’s life in context of a much larger story. also i generally don’t intend to like, heavily explicitly show stuff like abuse and death bbbut if something does go into it i’ll make sure to state that fact beforehand. these stories aren’t gonna be a goddamn downerfest of unpleasant content but like. it’s not gonna be ignored.
like pretty much i genuinely don’t want to spring any of this onto people with absolutely no warning, even if already known this blog will carry these topics. everyone has their own comfort zone even if content isn’t explicit.
uhhh kinda vague list as example ig?
- mentions and semi-vague portrayals of various kinds of abuse
- implied, referenced, or generally joked about sexual content. i’m not gonna be like drawing straight up ns/fw or anything but like. the act simply exists. it’ll sometimes be mentioned, but not shown.
- uhhhhh trauma. like hopefully realistic portrayals of (c)ptsd and i don’t mean JUST flashbacks nd Typical Media Portrayals(tm) (although that might happen in addition)
- substance use, sometimes unhealthy (won’t be demonized, though)
- sometimes explicit mentions of death of varying kinds, often bordering onto literally inhuman ways (ie. being controlled by a thing called the ‘brainjelly’ which then essentially kills you by digesting you but leaving your brain left over for it to use for itself.)
- unreality in general, bbbut in context to the stuff in the near future, there’ll be lab documents that talk about various types of creatures/objects/humans/etc that aren’t. typical. (i guess think scp/lobocorp-esque?) so some are upsetting. some aren’t. some are hateful microwaves. some are the brainjelly.
i will be tagging everything as needed (especially if requested to do so)! also more less important info but still info in the tags for those interested
