When Regulus comes to live with the Potters, one of the first things that James notices is that Regulus is cold. He’s always cold.

His fingertips are perpetually blue and he piles on sweaters and still he hunches in on himself and breathes into his cupped hands when he thinks no one is looking.

James is looking. And he won’t stand for it any longer.

It starts small, just a few warming charms shot in Regulus’ direction every now and then. Warming charms only do so much though, and it’s impossible to tell if they’re really working.

So James starts finding ways to check, brushing their hands together when they do the dishes together, playfully flicking Regulus’ nose when he loosens up enough to joke around.

Then James gets bolder. He puts an arm around the back of Regulus’ chair, trying to envelop him in the heat of his body, he tucks Regulus’ frozen feet under his thigh when they sit together on the couch.

One day, Regulus comes in from a walk, visibly shivering. When he sees James in the hall he makes a beeline for him and shoves his hands right up under James’ shirt.

James yelps but stays still.

Regulus sighs and tips his head forward so his face is pressed to James’ chest. The cold from his nose bleeds through the cotton of his shirt.

“You’re always so warm.” Regulus breathes.

i need this in my life

in dire need of fic with a mermaid prince sirius getting into a fight with his family and leaving their sanctuary and getting attacked by a sea creature and as he’s unconscious getting caught in fisherman remus’s nets and he brings him home to the small village where he and james live in a seaside cottage and heals him and they are deep in forbidden love.

oh and regulus follows sirius and meets with james and demands he is taken to his brother and they also fall in love. regulus is mean and james gives him flowers, which regulus has never seen before and is enamoured by them.

what i mean is that there’s a bunch of sea puns, longing stares and hand holding, and everything is blue and pretty

Just as James has settled on the bed while he reads over Sirius' notes, there's a knock at the door.

"Reggie?" Sirius calls out, and the door opens to reveal a roud face with flushed cheeks and messy curls that almost cover the younger boy's eyes. "How many times must I tell you that if it's you at my door you don't need to knock?"

Reggie- Regulus, James remembers as he scrambles to straighted up on the bed in an attempt to look decent, glances at James.

"I just wanted to be polite." He says, voice soft. "You have a guest."

"It's just Jimmy." Sirius dismisses without missing a beat. "Don't worry about him."

James rolls his eyes at Sirius' back, shooting up and onto his feet. "James Potter!" He smiles his best smile, utterly satisfied when Regulus' blush deepens. "It's a pleasure, finally meeting you."

"Hi, James." Regulus walks into the room, holding his hand out to James with a shy smile. "I'm Regulus. I... I like your jumper."

James squeezes Regulus' hand before letting it go. "Thank you, I bought it a couple of weeks ago." There's much James could comment on when it comes to Regulus' appearance: Regulus is wearing a jumper himself, bigger than his slight frame, with fluffy socks that match its colour and a pair of light blue pants with clouds printed on them.

He's so cute.

James watches Sirius from the corner of his eye, but his friend is still distracted by the message Moony sent him that he's trying to decipher. He leans into Regulus' space, winking when he says: "I like your smile."

Regulus tries to hide it behind one of his hands, but his smile widens and his whole being brithens at the compliment. James has to fight against the urge to coo at him.

Before he can answer James, Sirius clears his throat. When James turns towards him, he finds Sirius watching him with raised eyebrows. James sheepishly moves away from Regulus, sitting back on the bed and pretenting to still be reading from the notes.

"Reggie." Sirius nods at the other boy to go to his side. "Ignore Potter, he has to study from my notes because he's an idiot."

Regulus hesitates for a second, but then he follows his brother's orders, leaning on his side when he reaches him. "What are you doing, 'rius? I'm bored."

"Replying to a wonderful, maddening individual. Take my switch, turn the playstation on, I don't care. Just sit with me, alright?"

Regulus is too delighted by his brother's words to pay attention to the way Sirius leans away so he can glare daggers at James. "I'm gonna start playing The Last of Us, then!"

"Yeah sure," Sirius hums distractedly, but he's smiling. "I'll take over once I'm done here, okay?"

"Thank you!" Regulus turns to James, gesturing towards the TV. "I get easily spooked." He admits.

James is fucked. It's as simple as that. "That's fair," he says, struggling to keep a hold of the notes. "Want me to-"

"Why don't you finish studying, Jimbo?" Sirius cuts in, eyes still stuck to his phone's screen. His voice is like ice, and James sighs in defeat. "Wouldn't want Professor Sprout to fail you, right?"

"Right..."
