MAYWARD PROMPT: GOLDEN BOY

Warning: Slightly NSFW

JJ doesn’t even mean to let it slip. One second he and Pope are macking as they do and the next his back is on the bed with Pope above him doing ungodly things with his body and it just...comes right out.

And Pope freezes, takes his lips off JJ’s neck which causes the blonde boy to a release a particularly embarassing whine as he looks at him but Pope is just staring at him. Head cocked to the side, eyebrows quirked and JJ wonders how Pope could go from the human personification of sin to a little confused angel in the span of two seconds but he doesn’t comment.

“What?”

“JJ...did you just call me golden boy?”

And JJ is like, completely confused because....did he just call him golden boy?

“No.” Which is a lie that Pope laughs at. JJ is mortified because why the fuck would he call him that? Yeah, Pope is kind of a talker whenever things get heated between them and JJ usually just makes whatever noise he can in appreciation because it’s by far one of the hottest and most surprising things about his boyfriend.

“Yeah, yeah you did. You literally said, “so good, feels so good golden boy”” Pope says, repeating exactly what JJ had said word for word and frankly, it makes JJ want to die.

Pope catches it, how JJ begins to freeze up and invert back into himself because despite the confidence he exudes into the world, he’s ridiculously insecure.

“I’m sorry, I didn’-”

“I didn’t say I wasn’t into it.” Pope corrects, moving to close the distance between them. JJ’s lips form a surprised O before Pope kisses him quickly. He pulls away all too soon and JJ’s frustration is painfully present at the action.

“Pope I-please.” He doesn’t even open his eyes. Just reaches out blindly to grasp Pope’s exposed skin and he hears his boyfriend laugh.

“Say it again.” He says and JJ’s feels himself gulp a little because there’s no reason that should’ve sounded as sexy as it did. He opens his eyes to see Pope leaning over him and fuck, how could he not do anything this literal god asked of him.

“You uh-you want me to say it again?” Pope nods, moving to peck his lips one more time. JJ caves because Pope could ask JJ to do almost anything and he would within a heartbeat.

“Golden Boy.” JJ whispers and Pope smiles.

“Again.” He moves to kiss JJ’s neck and the blonde’s eyes flutter close.

“Golden B-Boy.”

Pope makes him say it again. And again and again and again and-well, no further explanation needed.

PET NAMES

- Pope isn’t one for pet names, JJ’s name is already a nickname in itself and occasionally, Pope will call him J but that’s about it. Usually as a warning, like when JJ is being a little too disruptive while he’s trying to focus on something. It’s not always when he’s annoyed, usually its when JJ’s being super, super touchy to the point where Pope can’t do anything but pay attention to him.  He was affectionate before they were together but after, JJ takes it to a whole new level. 

- JJ is the one who is always inventing new ways to show his affection to Pope. He calls Pope Golden Boy teasingly whenever he’s nerding out a little too hard or being overly serious when everyone else is just like, trying to chill. Whenever Pope’s sad, JJ goes “what’s the matter baby?” in a semi baby voice that makes Pope’s cheeks heat when they’re in public but is probably the most comforting thing he can hear when they’re alone and he’s feeling overwhelmed. 

-JJ is by far, the most loving person Pope has ever known. To like, the point where is takes him by surprise. He once called Pope sweet cheeks just to make him smile after a particularly shitty day,  it did. It gets to a point where JJ is just like, pulling shit out of his ass to make Pope laugh. Things like boo bear and honey suckle or whatever dumb overly cute nickname he can think of in the moment. It’s always in a joking manner but it becomes so normal that like...it stops being a joke. And now whenever JJ calls Pope something stupid, it’s lost all humor and is fully intentional and Pope hates the way his heart warms at it. 

- JJ is a praiser, like Pope will catch himself in the middle of complete frustration and self doubt and JJ will just pull him close and tell him that he’s perfect and more than good enough in the softest tone. And every time he does it, Pope can’t help the instinct he has to kiss his lips because it’s the only way he can really show JJ how much the words mean to him. Pope isn’t good with words, he rambles and can never say the right thing at the right time  so he shows he cares in other ways. Like worrying and when he grows comfortable, physical affection. 

-The more time they spend together, the better he gets at easing JJ’s mind. JJ’s is the one with the pet names but the longer they’re together, the more Pope is there to provide JJ with the affirmations he craves. He reassures JJ that he’s safe and loved when he needs to hear it. They become each other’s rocks. 

-During a particular intimate moment, Pope calls JJ “fucking beautiful” and the blonde lights up like a christmas tree. So whenever Pope finds himself staring at his boyfriend because geez, he was really in love with him, he tells him how beautiful he thinks he is. All the things JJ struggles to believe, Pope tells him until one day, when they’re no longer sixteen and stuck in the outer banks, JJ believes him.
