Mentor and Apprentice.

The hardest part of this drawing was….. Ferdinand’s smile. I wanted to give him a genuine smile so I had to find just the right balance. If the corner of his mouth turned upwards in an angle higher than 0.5 degrees, his genuine smile would turn into an Im-going-to-be-pinching-your-cheeks kind of smile. And so I tried to play with the shading. I hope I did a good job x).

This is a drawing I made for the first day of the Countdown to the release of the final volume of Ascendance of a Bookworm on twitter.

More details below:

On the 5 days before the release of a new jp volume, there’s a sort of event where people share their fanarts on Twitter for each day till the release, and the author retweets each one of them. There are those who participate for each day, others only on release day; and also some who swear to themselves that this time for sure, especially since it is the final volume, that they will post each day a fanart, and they start to think of a nice but too ambitious sequence of drawings for each day, only to end up doing just 2 out of 6 of those drawings.
