Punky’s Movie Experiment: Pokemon Detective Pikachu [Spoiler Free]

This was a very challenging film for me to review, mostly because being a film reviewer and a Pokemon fan means that I need to shut down that inner fangirl that is super excited about this film. I want to be as objective as I can, without forgetting too much of what a fan might think about it. I know, it’s complicated but it can be done. 

Detective Pikachu is based on the 3DS game of the same name, which tells the story of a kid named Tim Goodman (Smith) who learns about his father's strange disappearance after a car accident. He comes upon a Pikachu (Reynold) that used to belong to his father, and surprisingly they can understand each other. The pair go on a mission to find out what happened to his father and discover much more than they were hoping for. You can say that “the game is ON!” 

*cue Sherlock music*

Let’s start with the not-so-good part. The story is pretty basic and linear with just a tiny bit of drama, but there were some ok action sequences to balance it out. Overall, it was just a little bit cheesy, with a dash of cliche and some funny lines, much like the games themselves. Nothing out of the ordinary. The acting was alright, Ryan Reynolds was a rated PG version of Deadpool so all was good in the world. No Danny DeVito, but what can you do? Maybe they overdid it with having so many Pokemon hanging in every shot (over 50!) but if you play the games, that’s pretty much how it is. Tell us what Pokemon you saw in the comments!

The big treat for Pokemon fans were all the Easter eggs. Those little details had me literally squeeing every time I saw something I recognized from the games. It’s those little things that let you know that the production team really cared about making a film for the fans, not trying to make something to see if they can convert people into liking Pokemon. After having a week of stress from watching Game of Thrones and Avengers: Endgame, it was so nice to watch a movie that made me feel as if a childhood dream of seeing Pokemon in real life walking with humans like they belong there, and it’s such a feel-good thing to imagine. 

I’m giving this movie 5 Magikarp and 1 Charizard out of 2 Dugtrios. If you’re not a fan of Pokemon, go see it anyway if you wanna see something super cute and chill. But if you’re a Pokemon fan, go with your favorite shirt and have an awesome time finding all the Pokemon and references, and then let me know what was the coolest details you found while watching it and your favorite Pokemon.

SHOWTIME NETWORK ANUNCIA SERIE BASADA EN EL JUEGO HALO

El CEO de Showtime Network David Nevis anuncia que ordenaron 10 episodios de 1 hora cada uno basado en el exitoso y legendario juego de Xbox. Todavia no se confirma el titulo oficial de la serie pero estará basado en el primer juego donde mostrarán el conflicto entre humanos y los aliens llamados Convenant. Kyle Killen (Awake) será el productor ejecutivo, escritor y showrunner. Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) será el director de varios episodios ademas de productor ejecutivo que comenzará producción a principios del 2019.

“Halo es nuestra serie mas ambiciosa en la historia, esperamos que la audiencia que ha estado anticipando esta serie por años estén completamente satisfechos.” Dijo Nevins. “En la historia de la televisión, no ha habido suficiente Ciencia Ficción. Los libretos de Kyle Killen son sensacionales, expansivo y provocativos. Rupert Ryan es maravilloso, como director y su visión de Halo cautivará a los fanaticos del juego a la vez que a los no que no conocen del mundo de personajes complehos que tiene este universo único.”

“Es realmente un momento muy excitante para la franquicia de Halo” dijo Kiki Wolfkill, el jefe de Halo Transmedia en 343 Industries. “Juntos con nuestro grupo creativo y el equipo de Showtime y Amblin Television, la serie de Halo representará una nueva y excitante forma para que los fan entren y participen en el universo de Halo. No podemos esperar para compartir mas de lo que viene.”

La serie tendrá de productores ejecutivos a Killen, Wyatt y Scott Pennington, además de Justin Falvey y Darryl Frank de Amblin Television. La serie de distribuirá mundialmente por CBS Studios International.

Spider- Man está de vuelta!… Digo… Deadpool está de vuelta con una nueva misión no apta para cárdiacos. Esta vez Deadpool (Reynolds) se enfrenta contra un misterioso hombre del futuro llamado Cable (Brolin) que viene a matar a un niño mutante llamado Russell (Dennison) que alegadamente hará un caos que Cable quiere evitar. Al ver que la situación es mas dificil de lo que pensaba, Deadpool decide reclutar otros mutantes para formar ‘X-Force’ y detener los planes de Thanos… perdón, Cable. 

Comenzando por lo técnico, la película tiene sus pequeños issues, especialmente en efectos especiales pero juzgando con lo mucho que rompen el ‘4th wall’ para vacilar los cliches de las películas de super héroes, creo que fue a propósito. Y no es que fueran espantosos, pero muchas veces no se veía muy estilizado.

 La música se dejó llevar mucho de la primera película, usando música de los 80’s y especialmente de los 90s que es la era que mas le gusta a Wade/Deadpool. Si te gusta la música pop de esa era pues vas a disfrutarlo mucho y de vez en cuando te vas a encontrar cantando en voz alta en medio del cine. 

 La historia la veo mucho mas desarrollada que en la primera y se notó que se le dio mucho mas cariño en cuestión de desarrollar un poco mas los personajes. Aunque en momentos rehusaron algunos chistes, encontré el lado de comedia mucho mas entretenida y es mucho decir por que pienso que la primera tiene muchas escenas que re roban el show. En esta sigue el mismo patrón pero un poco mas desarrollado por ende mas cómico, pero como todo, es cuestión de gustos y sentido del humor. Les puedo asegurar que hay muchas sorpresitas para los fanáticos de las películas de súper héroes que les va a sacar muchas carcajadas. 

Creo que es bastante obvio decir que esta película no es la típica película de Marvel para llevar a sus chiquitines. Sorprendentemente aunque es violenta, morbosa y con mucho humor negro, tiene un mensaje de unión y de tener un lugar donde sentirse en familia, no importa si es de sangre o no. Lo que me gustó mucho es que mostró el lado sensitivo de Wade lo que hizo que Reynolds mostrara su lado mas serio y dramático algo que el tipo de película muchas veces no deja mostrar y eso le dió un 'layer’ mas al personaje.

 El elenco es uno muy bueno con mucha química que ayuda a que la trama corra mucho mas rápido y se pueda disfrutar cada momento. Y esa es la clave de está película; es extremadamente entretenida de principio a fin. Creo que será mi película favorita para soltar estrés por ser tan divertida, y tener el mismo humor negro que me gusta, y aunque algunas veces es extremadamente violenta, va perfectamente con la franquicia. Ryan Reynolds no existe, es sólo Deadpool actuando como Ryan Reynolds. 

Les recuerdo que como toda película de Marvel, hay una escena a mitad de créditos que la considero uno de los momentos mas brillantes que he visto. Van a pararse a aplaudir y llorar de la emoción. Así que por favor, no sea la persona que se va de la sala tan pronto sale los créditos para luego enterarse por Facebook lo que pasó, por que les aseguro que la gente va hablar mucho sobre esto. 

Le otorgo la puntuación de 4 nachos con queso (4/5) a Spide… “Deadpool 2″ por ser la nota discordante de todas las películas de super heroes y brindar a la mesa algo que aunque no es para todo el mundo, le hace justicia a este anti-héroe que en el pasado fue censurado.
