This morning someone told me I didn’t look gross and honestly that was just such a great moment of compassion that I didn’t even realize I was needing

For context I preceded this with the words “yeah I’m doing alright, I just feel gross cuz I haven’t gotten a shower yet” (am college student, got food in dining hall first)

Explanation under the cut for the illusion of not being too personal

(Am also fully aware that many many people shower every other day or even have longer periods between showers as both a personal and social norm, but like. I grew up with daily showers being the social norm and had trouble living up to that because mental illness, and had family who complained about other people smelling in a public restaurant as though people who have trouble with hygiene don’t also need to eat, so it’s now like. An internalized anxiety that people somehow *know*)

Like I think for me the moments of compassion that hit hardest are the mundane ones.
