you know, with the umbrella academy you would have thought the writers would have had some semblance or vague idea on an overarching plot for the show but it's really fucking obvious they never did, they never had one, so they've just been lifelessly repeating the successes of season one—time travel shenanigans, a family divided that needs to come together, a doomsday countdown hanging over their heads but they're all too dysfunctional to really do anything—over and over again for two whole extra seasons hoping to somehow strike liquid gold all while failing to not only understand what it really was that made season one so special but while also failing and flanderizing and ruining the characters for the plot and plot alone

I'm still processing that people are saying this because they cared more than they expected to about what happened. And they aren't saying it because they thought the acting or the way it was shot or the direction or the VFX were bad, or that the dialogue was clumsy or out of character. They say it because it made them feel things they weren't expecting to feel.
