Motivation | Body Positive Look, I may not be in the best shape of my life and definitely don’t have the #rockhard body I’ve *always* wanted, but I am so grateful for my body. I’ve dragged her through horrible diets, car accidents, neglect, malnourish, overstimulation and abuse - and she still shows up, she’s still standing. It’s incredible what our bodies are capable of doing. Searching for Queensland’s #bestvegancheeseburger | Grill’d Venue: Grill’d, Eagle Street (Brisbane) Item: Beyond Simply Grill’d Cost : $13 Rating: 🍔🍔🍔 (out of 5) Beyond meat plant based pattie with salad, relish & herbed mayo. Disclaimer: with all their “Beyond Meat” menu options, you MUST specify vegan as they do have aioli and bacon on some of their Beyond Meat burgers (go figure 🤷🏽‍♀️). Verdict: I’m a fan of the Beyond Meat burger (had as many as I could at A&W during my last visit back to Canada), so I very excited when Grill’d started to offer these. Not going to lie, a little disappointed- I’m not sure what the deal is with burger joints not wanting to slightly toast their burger buns or if stale buns are just a thing 🤷🏽‍♀️ .. could’ve been a real winner. KB Challenge | Before Super hesitant to post this... but accountability, right? Starting 100KB swings a day. This is the before (technically after the swings, when I’m collapsed on the floor...but ya know). Didn’t take note of the time it took; just wanted to get through the swings (without whacking Ally in the process 🤦🏽‍♀️) Inspired by @lauri8334 who, at one stage, was doing 1000 swings a day and noticed significant changes in her core. Spotlight | You Came Again Goodness me, if the cheeky name doesn’t make you smile, the staff, service, drinks and food definitely will. We got the cauliflower and pulled jackfruit sliders. The cauliflower was definitely the star.. and the gin special, oh lordy, it went down quicker than.. 😏 There’s plenty of seating and the menus are cleverly designed. Food | platter A break from the burgers for a minute... this #vegan platter from the weekend was as creative as I could get ☺️ What you could use: 2-3 dips or spreads (I used hummus and beetroot hummus) Bread/crackers (I used wholemeal French and pepper wafer crackers) Marinated olives Marinated/grilled veggies Fruit (I used Grapes; red and white) Berries (I used raspberries and blueberries) Mixed nuts Optional- Dried fruit, dark chocolate, fresh vegetables- carrot, cucumber, etc. Directions: 1. Place your dips on the board; they’ll be your anchors. ⚓️ 2. Swirl bread or crackers around the dips/spreads. 3. Start layering and adding ingredients. Things like marinated olives, grilled veggies, etc. can go into smaller bowls. Fruits and nuts can go directly on the board. 4. Try to cover all the board space 5. Top with some dark chocolate (mine never made it to the board). 6. Enjoy! Searching for Queensland’s #bestvegancheeseburger | Netherworld Venue: Netherworld, Fortitude Valley Item: Burgatory Cost : $15 Rating: 🍔🍔🍔🍔 (out of 5) Cheeseburger w/ cheese, onion rings, pickles, American mustard, ketchup, lettuce & tomato. Verdict: this was a great burger! The bun to patty ratio was 👌🏽 . They used a traditional hamburger bun, the patty was huge, the pickle, mustard and ketchup ratio was well balanced. The addition of onion rings (which I was apprehensive about at first) was a good choice. Searching for Queensland’s #bestvegancheeseburger | Tipplers Tap Venue: Tippler’s Tap, South Brisbane Item: Vegan Cheeseburger Cost : $14 Rating: 🍔🍔🍔.5 (out of 5) A grilled, vegan ‘beef’ style patty on a sesame seed bun with vegan cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, ketchup and American mustard. Verdict: Look, the patty was great, cheese was melty, mustard, ketchup and pickle flavours in full force, but it didn’t have that #dirtycheeseburger look, feel or taste. I think the choice of bun could make a difference. It was a bit too much bread in the bread to patty ratio. If you’re looking for a healthier-feel-good burger, this is a good option. Nutrition | Digestion Sometimes I like something that my body doesn’t. Whether it’s because I’ve had too much (of a good thing), introduced new foods into my system, or changed eating habits (period of healthy followed by not-so-healthy or vice versa). When that happens, I increase water intake and take long, deep breaths (anxiety effects digestion).
