Because I’m an art teacher at the non profit that I work for I get to teach my kids all kinds of amazing skills they can take with them. This week we covered sketching. I used a tablet, my laptop, and sketchbook pro to show them different techniques and let me tell you these kids are SMART. They catch on soooo quick and I’m impressed at the level of dedication these kids are to learning these life long skills. They each got there own sketchbooks as I taught them how to use pencils, markers and oil pastels to sketch differently. Not only did they use these mediums and learned the techniques but they walked out of my classroom with a new love of art and expression. It’s these moments I live for. The ones that make me SO proud to be a part of this extraordinary world we live in. In the midst of teaching I would sketch random stuff on the board in digital mediums that “match” the medium they’re using. Give them a sense of how to do it without me showing them one by one.
