Chapter Ten - The Fisher King: Part 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: FBI agent Leila faces a profound life change after giving birth to a baby girl, supported by her loving husband. Despite the challenges of motherhood, Leila returns to her role as a dedicated agent a few months later, ready to confront gruesome and haunting cases with the BAU team.
Pairing: BAU!Fem!OC x Male!OC , EVENTUAL Aaron Hotchner x BAU!Fem!OC (Like much later)
Warnings: This story contains mature themes such as sexual content, strong language, violence, mentions of alcohol and drugs, blood, gore, and death. All the usual Criminal Minds stuff. And there is NO CHEATING.
Note 1: I imagine Leila Kade as South Asian but I have decided to let you, the reader, imagine her appearance, hence the reason why I have not given her a face claim. However, her race does not affect the story, whatsoever. You, as the reader, are free to imagine her however you want. If you don't see her as South Asian, then that's fine. It won't affect the storyline. I also imagine the OC!Male as South Asian, but again, it won't affect the storyline.
Note 2: The team will consist of the main cast (Emily, Derek, JJ, Spencer, Penelope, Aaron, and Rossi) but will also include Elle Greenaway and Jason Gideon because they were some of my favorite characters and I wanted to include them with the rest of the team. Basically, Elle and Gideon never leave when Emily and Rossi join.
Note 3: There will be multiple time skips throughout this series. For example, the first chapter will begin on the first season and episode of the show but then there will be a time skip to later episodes (because there are obviously way too many episodes to write this series on and I wanted to include specific episodes that would help the plot of this story). This means that this series will be a slow burn romance but I believe it to be better this way. This will also stray from the actual show a lot, so don't expect it to follow the plot precisely.

Season 1, Episode 22
Leila's excitement peaked upon learning that she would finally enjoy a long and refreshing break from work. Aaron's decision to grant the entire team two weeks off filled her with anticipation. All she could think about was being able to devote her undivided attention to her family without the burden of a new case weighing on her mind.
As she ensured she had everything she needed from her office packed into her bag, she let out a sigh of relief. Rushing out of her office, she almost accidentally collided with Aaron, who had also just emerged from his own office.
"Hey, ready to leave?" Aaron's bright smile greeted her. It was the happiest Leila had seen him at work, and she couldn't help but feel that this break was the best thing to happen to them in a long time.
"Two weeks with no contact from this place? It's like a dream come true," Leila said giddily as they descended the steps. "And now it sounds like I hate my job."
Aaron chuckled, reaching the last step. "I don't blame you. It's nice to finally have some time away from here." As they approached their cubicles, they noticed Elle and Derek. "Hey, don't knock family. I'm going to get nothing but for the next 336 hours," Aaron remarked.
Derek hummed with a smile on his face. "Good for you."
"Haley's got a list of chores a mile long and I can't wait," Aaron exclaimed excitedly. "The biggest decision I gotta make is what I'm gonna do first."
"I bet she has a thought or two about that as well," Elle responded, sharing a grin of her own.
"Bring it on," Aaron said loudly, walking away from them.
"Bye guys, have fun!" Leila waved goodbye, rushing out the doors.
"Thank you, Grace. Please enjoy the next two weeks off," Leila expressed her gratitude, cradling Jasmine as the little baby babbled happily. "You're the best."
Grace returned her appreciation with a warm smile, gently patting Jasmine's head before bidding them farewell. "You three enjoy your two weeks off. You guys really deserve it."
"You're the sweetest, drive safe!" Leila called out as she watched Grace leave the house. She then looked down at Jasmine, who was still babbling away. "Let's wait for daddy to come home from work, and then we can have lots of fun, okay sweetie?"
A few moments later, Leila heard the garage door open, indicating Zaid was home. As soon as he walked in, Leila rushed over to him, still holding Jasmine. "There's my two gorgeous girls, come here," he greeted warmly, wrapping his arms around Leila, being careful of Jasmine in her arms. "Both mommy and daddy have two weeks off from work, so we're going to make the most out of it, alright Jas?"
When Leila had told Zaid that she was getting two weeks off from the BAU, he didn't hesitate to take some time off from his job as well, wanting to spend as much time with his family as possible. "Mhm, and I know a few ways we can spend it," Leila grinned, giving him a quick peck on the lips. Zaid winked before gently taking Jasmine from her arms, twirling her around as Jasmine giggled joyfully.
After dinner and some playtime with Jasmine and her favorite toys, Leila and Zaid finally settled their baby down for the night. Ensuring she was comfortable, they quietly exited her room. As they left, Zaid playfully grabbed Leila's waist, causing her to squeal a bit too loudly. He quickly covered her mouth with his hand. "Shh, you're going to wake her, honey."
She scoffed, gently pushing him away before turning to face him. "Well, then don't give me a reason to scream."
Realizing what she had just said, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment as Zaid began to chuckle, his hands coming up to gently cup her face. "I think you're underestimating me, love," he teased affectionately.
Leila rolled her eyes before Zaid leaned down to capture her lips with his own. He pushed her against the wall, his hands reaching for their own bedroom door before opening it and pushing her inside. Zaid swiftly picked her up, Leila wrapping her legs around his waist as they fell onto the bed.
Their lips continued to move against each other while Zaid tugged at her shirt, his hands moving under it to touch her skin. Leila hummed against his lips as he tugged at his hair. "You gotta be quiet for me, honey. You can do that, can't you?" Zaid muttered against her skin, detaching his lips from hers to move down her neck. She tried to speak but couldn't, her mind focused on the pleasure he was giving her. Instead, she nodded her head. "Good girl," he chuckled, and the two fell into a world of pleasure soon after.
The ringing of the phone in the middle of the night jolted Leila from her slumber. She lay on top of Zaid, his arms encircling her, and her frustration grew as the phone persisted. With a groan, she reluctantly reached out to the nightstand, not bothering to check the Caller ID before answering. "Agent Kade," she mumbled into the phone, trying her hardest not to fall back asleep.
"Agent Kade..." the voice on the other end spoke, but Leila was too tired to register whose voice it was. "You need to focus on what truly matters. There's someone in danger, someone who needs your help. There have been many destroyed relationships in the family, don't get lost in the details. Remember, everything starts at the beginning. Time is of the essence, and the youngest holds the key. You must find a way to save her. Can you do it, Leila? Can you be the hero she needs? Can you finally do what's right?"
Leila furrowed her eyebrows as her eyes shot wide open, sitting up on the bed, still holding the phone against her ear. "Who's speaking? What are you talking about?" The sudden change in Leila's demeanor caused Zaid to become worried, who had awoken after she picked up the phone.
"Save her before it's too late," the voice said once more before the line cut off.
"Who was that?" Zaid asked with concern, his eyes scanning his wife's face.
She looked at him with furrowed eyebrows, shaking her head. "I have no idea."
Leila glanced towards their bedroom door and swiftly rose, hurrying to Jasmine's room, with Zaid close on her heels. Relief flooded her as she laid eyes on her sleeping baby, Leila's fingers instinctively clutching the crib's bars. Zaid approached, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder, prompting her to look up at him. "What's going on?" he asked, concern etched in his voice.
She swallowed hard, stealing one last glance at Jasmine before guiding Zaid out of the room. Leaning against the hallway wall, she crossed her arms tightly. "I just got a really strange call. Some guy insisted that I have to find a way to save a 'her.'"
"Her? Which her?" Zaid asked, his eyebrows furrowed with concern.
"That's what I don't know," Leila replied, exhaling heavily and shaking her head. "But there was something else." Zaid nodded, encouraging her to continue. Leila took a shaky breath before speaking. "He said something about a family, Zaid."
His confusion deepened, knitting his eyebrows together. "What do you mean?" he questioned, seeking clarification.
Leila pursed her lips, pinching the bridge of her nose. "He said that there have been many destroyed relationships in the family and proceeded to finish off by asking if I can finally do what's right." As soon as those words left Leila's lips, Zaid's eyes widened in shock. "There's no way, right?"
Zaid shook his head, gently rubbing her back in reassurance. "I'm sure it was just a prank call, honey. Don't worry." Despite his comforting words, Leila couldn't shake off the unease that settled in her mind. Her heart skipped a beat when the phone rang again, causing her to jump in fear. "Hey, it's okay. I'll answer this time, okay?" Zaid offered, his voice calm and soothing as he grabbed the phone. He answered the phone and listened intently to the person on the other end. Nodding in acknowledgment, he glanced over at Leila, who still wore a concerned expression. "Yeah, she's right here," he said into the phone before handing it over to her, silently mouthing that it was Aaron who called.
Leila furrowed her eyebrows, her concern growing as she brought the phone to her ear. "Hey," she answered, waiting for Aaron to speak.
"I just got a call from Derek," Aaron spoke, his voice tense. "The Jamaican police arrested Elle for a suspected murder."
"What?" Leila exclaimed, her voice tinged with shock.
"I honestly thought it was just a stupid prank call, but he called you too?" Leila asked in disbelief. "And now Elle has been arrested. What the hell is going on, Aaron?"
As the two FBI agents were en route to Jamaica to meet with Derek and Elle, they learned that Elle had been framed for a murder. The authorities had discovered a blood trail leading to her room at the resort where she and Derek were vacationing. The victim had been decapitated, making identification impossible thus far. Aaron ensured to bring in bureau lawyers and a crime scene unit as they didn't know what they were dealing with.
"I don't know," Aaron sighed, rubbing his temple. "So much for two weeks off." The two sat across from each other in the jet, grappling with the unfolding situation. Leila was certain that Elle was being framed. It was out of character for her to commit such a crime. "You didn't have to come, you know?" Aaron remarked.
Leila rolled her eyes. "Like hell I wouldn't." Aaron couldn't help but smile, chuckling softly at her response. Leila tilted her head, narrowing her eyes in confusion. "Why are you laughing?" she asked, puzzled by his reaction.
He shook his head, reassuring her that it wasn't bad. "You're a good friend," he affirmed, knowing that she would always stick up for everyone on the team no matter what. "We're all lucky to have someone like you on this team."
Her lips turned up into a smirk, laughing at his response. "Aw, Aaron. Don't get so sappy on me," she teased. "It's not good for your image." The comment made Aaron roll his eyes.
They soon arrived in Jamaica, driving to where Elle was currently detained. Upon meeting up with Derek, he explained everything to them to the best of his ability. Once they arrived at the location, the three of them walked into the room where Elle was being questioned. Aaron presented evidence to the investigator, proving that Elle was not even present when the murder occurred. Reluctantly, the investigator handed over the keys to unlock Elle's handcuffs.
They left the room, and Leila immediately enveloped Elle in a tight hug, relieved to see her freed from the unjust ordeal. "Are you okay, Elle?" Leila asked, gently rubbing her back in comfort.
Elle pulled back slightly to answer, her expression a mixture of confusion and exhaustion. "I don't even know what the hell just happened."
The four of them walked away, ready to depart for Quantico, eager to find out what was going on and who was sending them strange messages.
Once back at Quantico, they were informed that the headless victim's head had been sent to Gideon. The victim, identified as Marty Harris, had been rooming with a man named Frank Giles at the resort. Giles was revealed as the murderer but had fled Jamaica, prompting a search. Meanwhile, the unsettling individual who had called Leila on the phone had been sending cryptic messages to the entire team, repeatedly urging them to save a girl.
"So, clearly we have a psychopath intent on drawing us into his game," Aaron stated, the team gathered in the conference room, attempting to piece everything together.
"Playing with us," Gideon finished, his tone grave.
Elle chimed in with determination. "Then let's return the favor."
"He kept telling us repeatedly to save her. What 'her'?" Derek questioned, his brow furrowed in frustration.
Gideon pondered for a moment. "The items he's sent must be some kind of clues."
"We should put them all up on the board, then," Leila suggested, prompting Aaron to nod in agreement. JJ grabbed a marker to start writing on the board.
"I got a Nellie Fox baseball card from 1963 and I got a head in a box," Jason began.
"I got a rare butterfly in a shadow box," JJ spoke, turning her head towards the team before she turned back around to write the clues onto the board.
"And repeated messages to 'save her,'" Aaron added.
"He called me and said that 'There have been many destroyed relationships in the family,'" Leila retorted, shaking her head, her initial thoughts when she first heard the message gone from her mind. "Whatever that's supposed to mean."
"I got the decapitated body," Elle said, walking back and forth in the room with her arms crossed. "And a nice visit to the Jamaican Police Headquarters."
"Reid called from Nevada," Gideon informed them. "He's on the way back here with a skeleton key and a note he got, too."
"And the guy who called me said, 'The youngest one holds the key,'" Aaron finished off.
Elle raised an eyebrow and shrugged. "That's Reid."
"Okay, but wait a minute. UnSubs, they don't contact us this way," Derek began, shaking his head. "I mean, they might taunt us, dare us to catch them, but they don't drag us into their fantasy."
JJ turned to look at Derek, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion. "Why not?"
"Because they're sexual fantasies," Derek responded, waving his hand. "I mean, taunting us is a show of power, but making us the object is…" he paused, shrugging, before clasping his hands together. "I don't know what the hell that is."
"There's something else about the baseball card," Gideon started to say. "Nellie Fox was one of the stars of the 1959 White Sox. I went to almost every game with my father that year. Fox was my hero." Leila tilted her head, her mouth slightly parted as she tried to comprehend everything. "So is it a coincidence that he sends this to me, or does he know how I feel about him?"
The little story made JJ pause, turning her head back around towards the team when she realized something. "I collected butterflies when I was a little girl. That's how I knew what butterfly was in the box."
Derek tilted his head. "So then he knows us?"
"I got an anonymous message," Aaron said, shooting down the possible idea.
"I got a police raid," Elle added.
"And I got––" Leila paused, her breath catching in her throat for a moment, everyone else in the room staring at her before she continued. "I got a random phone call in the middle of the night. So I guess not."
"But he knew exactly where we were," Derek continued, paying no mind to the sudden hesitation in Leila's voice. She let out a silent breath of relief, but her eyes locked with Gideon's, the older man staring at her as if she was hiding something. She quickly looked away as Derek continued to talk. "Hotel in Jamaica, Gideon at the cabin, Reid in Vegas, you two at your homes."
Suddenly, a certain blonde walked into the room, her expression somber. "He got that from the Bureau computers. Your locations are always logged in there so they can locate you if necessary," Penelope informed them, holding a piece of paper in her hand. The team turned their attention to her, urging her to continue. "And I checked the log. The hacker was definitely in the personnel folders. There were room numbers for the hotel in Jamaica, the address of Gideon's cabin... There's a lot of information in those databases."
Aaron, maintaining his usual stoic demeanor, questioned her. "Have you figured out how he was able to breach the Bureau's computers?"
Penelope swallowed hard, her voice trembling. "I'm still working on that."
The team noticed the tremor in her voice, sensing that she was holding something back, a realization that struck Leila as hypocritical, given that she was doing the same. "Garcia, if you know something…" Aaron prompted, his tone firm.
"No, it's, um…It's just…I…" she stuttered, struggling to articulate her thoughts. "I was playing a game yesterday. An online game."
Gideon raised his head. "A game?"
Penelope quickly interjected to clarify. "Not on the Bureau computers, sir. On my own personal laptop."
Derek sighed, leaning forward. "No, Garcia. No, no, no."
"I don't understand," Aaron said, clearly puzzled. Leila released a breath, realizing the implications. She knew Penelope didn't mean any harm, but she couldn't help but pinch the bridge of her nose.
"Wireless Internet," Derek explained succinctly.
"By wirelessly hooking into the Net here to get online, the hacker could have accessed my computer first, and I have far less protection on my own laptop," Penelope clarified.
"And he could have infiltrated the entire Bureau computer system this way?" Aaron inquired, his brow furrowed and his arms still crossed.
"Yeah, it's possible," Penelope confirmed solemnly.
"Playing a game?" Gideon shrugged, standing up from his seat. "How could you be that stupid? Information, files. You have a responsibility," he said frustratedly, and Leila noticed the hurt on Penelope's face.
"I know, sir. I'm so sorry," Penelope apologized, her voice breaking. The team looked at her with sympathy, but then she spoke again. "But I found him."
"You what?" Elle questioned, disbelief evident in her tone.
"I know who he is, the hacker. His name is Giles. Frank Giles," she rushed out, unfolding the paper in her hand. They all looked at each other as soon as she revealed the name, their eyes widening. "He lives in Arlington, Virginia, four miles from here. I have his address."
Leila stepped forward. "Garcia, you said Giles?" she asked, seeking clarification.
They soon went to Giles' address to apprehend him, only to find him murdered in his room, stabbed with a sword. A chilling note, written in his blood, adorned the wall, stating, 'Here thy quest doth truly begin.'
Searching his room for any clues, they discovered a bag of money on his dresser. They assumed that Giles had carried out the murder of Harris as instructed by the unsub, who, in turn, rewarded him with money. However, the unsub had turned on Giles, ultimately killing him. The unsub continuously left them clues, using language reminiscent of the medieval times.
They found a CD the unsub left for them, watching it once they got back to the BAU. He named them one by one, including pictures of them, making it clear that only the team was to complete the 'quest.' Despite the unsub's instructions to exclude anyone but themselves from the case, Gideon was adamant about holding a press conference.
After the press conference, they continued to sift through the clues. Leila glanced over and noticed that Elle had fallen asleep on the couch. "Someone's really tired," she remarked, her gaze fixed on Elle's sleeping form.
"Can you blame her?" Derek questioned, giving Leila a sympathetic look. "She hasn't slept for thirty-six hours."
Aaron entered the room and immediately noticed Elle asleep on the couch. "Elle?" he called out.
The brunette quickly shot up. "I'm awake."
"I'm sending you home," Aaron told her firmly.
"No," Elle sighed, resisting.
"You need to get some rest, and we won't do anything without you," Aaron reassured her.
"Elle, seriously," Derek spoke up. "We're not any closer than we were. Get out of here. Go home."
"But––"
"It's an order." Aaron gave her a pointed look.
Elle turned to look at Leila, who nodded in agreement. "You need to sleep, Elle. Go home and recharge, you'll feel so much better."
With a defeated breath, Elle stood up from her spot on the couch and walked away with Aaron. Leila, Derek, and Spencer continued to work on the case, but nothing seemed to be coming to mind. Leila's eyes focused on the rows of numbers on the paper the unsub had sent them. The unsub told them that they needed a specific book to decode the message, but they were unsure of which book to use.
Leila ran a hand over her face, massaging her temples as she felt another headache coming on. She stood up from her chair to take a break, letting the team know that she would be back after a few minutes. Exiting the room, she headed towards her office but then noticed Haley with Jack in the stroller sitting in Aaron's office. She was only here because the unsub dropped off a note at their home.
Knocking on the door, she heard a faint "come in" and she walked inside. She gave Haley a warm smile as she hugged her. "You look really tired, Leila. Are you doing okay?"
Leila chuckled, nodding. "This unsub is really kicking our butts right now. We still feel like we're getting nowhere with all of this."
Haley gave her a sympathetic smile, putting a hand on her shoulder. "It's okay, you guys will eventually figure this out, just like you always do." Leila returned the smile, but then her eyes moved over to the stroller. "Jack's still asleep. Aaron told us to stay here until it's safe."
"And he made the right call," Leila responded. "I'm going to get back. I just needed a small break from being in that small room."
"Of course, I'll see you later, Leila." Haley waved goodbye as Leila exited Aaron's office. Leila decided to walk to her office and try her best to think of anything that could help.
She sat in her chair, her mind drifting to Elle, who was likely already sleeping in the comfort of her own home by now. She felt a pang of sympathy for her best friend, knowing everything she had endured over the past day, from being arrested to the unsettling games the unsub was playing with them. She was relieved that Elle had finally gone home to get some rest.
Yet, despite this, she couldn't shake off the strange feeling that something was about to happen.

Season 1, Episode 20
Leila heard a knock on her door, and she looked up to see JJ entering with several case files. She immediately nodded. "I'll be there, JJ. Thanks."
JJ gave her a warm smile and turned around to notify the others, giving Leila the chance to set down her pen and rise from her chair. She exited her office and headed towards the conference room where JJ, Elle, Derek, and Spencer were walking together. "That right there's a yes, baby. I knew it. I told you." Derek exclaimed, and Leila, falling into step with JJ and Elle, tilted her head in curiosity.
"What's a yes?" Leila inquired, looking at the others.
"Elle has a boyfriend," Derek replied, his smirk widening.
"Don't listen to him," Elle sighed, rolling her eyes. Leila couldn't help but notice a faint blush on Elle's cheeks, raising an eyebrow in amusement.
"Hmm," Leila hummed, giggling at their playful banter.
"See, she didn't deny it," Derek chimed in once more.
"She didn't really admit to anything, man," Spencer interjected.
Elle shot Spencer a grateful smile. "Thank you."
Derek remained undeterred. "Reid, trust me, you got a lot to learn."
The five entered the conference room, where Aaron and Gideon were already seated at the round table. They took their seats as JJ began presenting the new case. Leila sifted through the files as JJ spoke.
This new case centered around a man named Mark Gregory, who had kidnapped and murdered four women. Gregory had somehow disappeared and it had been 36 hours since he got away, along with a woman named Nicole Wegener. The victims were taken within a 60-mile radius, tortured, and then drowned in hotel bathtubs. Their bodies were discovered a couple of days after they were reported missing.
The team grabbed their go-bags and made their way to the jet. Upon arrival, they delved deeper into the case, exchanging additional details that hadn't been discussed in the conference room. Upon landing in Florida, they drove to the FBI Temporary Command Center to meet with the authorities leading the investigation.
Following further discussion with the Florida FBI unit, the team opted to split up, assigning tasks to interview Gregory's associates and family members. Leila, Elle, and Aaron teamed up to speak with Gregory's business partner, Hank Bloomberg. With less than twelve hours on the clock to locate Nicole Wegener alive, Leila had doubts about their chances of finding her in time.
The trio arrived at Gregory's office, where they were to meet with Hank Bloomberg. Spotting him holding a briefcase, they approached, Aaron displaying his badge as he addressed him. "Mr. Bloomberg."
"Yes," the man replied, somewhat puzzled.
"Agents Hotchner, Kade, and Greenaway, FBI."
"Well, I've already talked to the police," Bloomberg stated.
"We're from the Behavioral Analysis Unit, and I'm sure we'll have some different questions," Elle replied, nodding in acknowledgment.
Aaron began to speak. "We're looking for some insight into Mark Gregory's behavior right before the killings started," he began, and Bloomberg nodded his head as Aaron continued. "Things you might not think are important could actually be helpful."
Bloomberg raised an eyebrow in concern, subtly shaking his head. "Well, I don't know why he disappeared. You're sure you got the right guy?"
Leila gave him a reassuring nod as she spoke. "Usually when someone takes off, it gives us reason to be suspicious," she said, trying to gain any form of information from him. "Anything you know can help us."
The man nodded, trying to think of something. "Well, I've never noticed any odd behavior. We've worked together for five years. I've known him for 10. He helped coach my son's soccer league this past fall. He's my best friend."
"What about his relationship with women?" Elle asked him.
Bloomberg chuckled. "Mark's a consummate ladies' man. He always had a different woman on his arm." He responded, and Leila raised an eyebrow. "Never had a problem getting a date."
"Yes, well, dating doesn't do it for him. He likes to torture and drown them," Aaron added. The man stood there in shock, his mouth agape as Aaron continued to ask him a question. "What do you know about his history with women?"
"He was married once in his early twenties." Bloomberg answered, still shocked. "Swore he'd never do it again."
"Did you know her?" Elle asked him.
"No, it was before I met him."
"Do you know if she's still in the area?"
"Wait a minute," The man furrowed his eyebrows. "You think he did something to his ex-wife?"
"We're looking for what we call a stressor, this is what could have made him lose it and we have to look into all of the possibilities to understand why he is doing what he is doing," Leila said, trying to answer his confusion. "If we need to ask you any more questions, we'll find you."
"Thank you," Aaron added, and the man stood there for a few seconds before nodding his head, turning around and walking away from them.
The information Bloomberg brought up made them realize that Gregory had most likely been killing for way longer than they thought he had, considering he was married in his early twenties.
The team gathered more information on Gregory, significantly enhancing their understanding from where they had started, enabling them to update the FBI unit with a comprehensive profile. Gregory's adeptness at adapting to various situations, aided by his various disguises, stood out, and his ex-wife was still alive. With Gregory now on the run, it suggested he was a spree killer, poised to escalate and take even more victims.
Only a few minutes later, Aaron received a call that they found Nicole Wegener's body but instead of it being nearby, it was found all the way in Georgia. Leila let out a deep breath as they all heard the words come out of Aaron's mouth, knowing Gregory was already starting to escalate just as they predicted in the profile. Elle and Derek were on their way to Georgia to take a look at the scene.
While Elle and Derek headed to Georgia, the remainder of the team stayed behind, granting Aaron and Leila the opportunity to speak with Gregory's ex-wife. Meanwhile, Gideon and Spencer opted to engage in a conversation with Gregory's father. Following their discussions with both the ex-wife and the father, they gained deeper insights into Gregory's character and motivations.
Leila sensed that they were getting closer. Taking a break, Aaron joined her to refuel with some food. "I'm so hungry," Leila muttered, eagerly biting into her sandwich.
"I can see that," Aaron chuckled, earning a playful glare and a gentle smack on the arm from Leila.
"That's not a nice thing to say to a lady," she quipped, rolling her eyes before resuming her meal. Glancing over, she noticed Aaron without any food and handed him another sandwich, prompting a puzzled look from him. "It's delicious. Try some."
He flashed her a grateful smile before accepting the sandwich, following her suggestion to try it. Humming with satisfaction, he nodded approvingly as he took a few more bites. "You were right. This is delicious. Who made this?"
Leila grinned mischievously, taking a sip of water before replying, "I did. I've been told I make amazing sandwiches," she said with a smirk. "And I'm an exceptional cook overall."
He tilted his head in amusement. "Well, you have to let me try your cooking one day, then."
"I'll keep that in mind," she responded, going back to eating.
Gregory had abducted another woman from the mall, prompting Elle and Derek to race to apprehend him. Meanwhile, the team in Florida uncovered a disturbing revelation. Gregory had held his own mother's head underwater during a car accident, leading to her drowning. This detail caught Leila off guard, because after all, Gregory was only ten years old at the time. However, it also shed light on his actions. His first kill held immense significance. Learning of his mother's infidelity to his father during his formative years, he unleashed his pent-up anger upon her during the car accident.
Elle and Derek succeeded in apprehending Gregory just before he could harm his final victim. Leila breathed a sigh of relief knowing the victim was safe, but Gregory was shot and killed. With the case over, the team could finally close the case and return home.
When they finally returned, Leila packed up her belongings before preparing to leave. Spotting Elle at her desk, an idea occurred to her. She approached the brunette and stood before her. "Hey, Elle, you busy tonight?"
Elle looked up and shrugged. "Depends on whether I feel like finishing this paperwork or not," she replied honestly. "Otherwise, I'm free."
"Cool, how about we grab something to eat?" Leila suggested, and the brunette nodded enthusiastically, gathering her belongings before joining Leila on their way to her car.
They drove to a nearby restaurant, and Leila made a mental note to grab some food for Zaid. They settled at a table next to the window, placing their orders as they engaged in conversation.
"So, was Derek just messing around, or are you actually seeing someone?" Leila inquired, recalling the playful banter from a few days prior before their case briefing. "Not that I'm prying or anything, but…"
Elle rolled her eyes, though a smile tugged at the corners of her lips. "I sometimes hate profilers."
Leila chuckled, empathizing with Elle's sentiment. She reached across the table and lightly tapped Elle's hand to regain her attention. "Spill the beans. Who's the lucky guy? Because I have a feeling I might know who it is."
The brunette bit her lip, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment as she glanced out the window. Soon, laughter bubbled up from her, her hands flying to cover her face as she struggled to contain her amusement. Leila couldn't help but join in, her own laughter mingling with Elle's. It felt like they laughed for ages, though in reality, it was only a few seconds.
"Okay, yes, you got me," Elle admitted, finally giving in. "And, um, yeah, we've been seeing each other for a few weeks now. I just didn't mention it because I didn't think it was that serious."
"So, it's official then? You two are serious?" Leila beamed, her excitement palpable at the news that her best friend was in a happy relationship. Elle nodded, and Leila couldn't contain her excitement, letting out a delighted shriek that caught the attention of a few nearby diners. Quickly realizing she had drawn attention, Leila covered her mouth, feeling a tad embarrassed, which only made Elle laugh.

i know it’s been a while since i posted anything about my criminal minds series and i just wanted to give a quick update. i’m working on the newest chapter and i’ve been realizing how difficult it is to write an entire storyline based on the actual episodes and i feel like it takes away so much unnecessary time. perhaps after season one, i may just write one entire chapter that includes a few episodes instead of only one episode for each chapter if that makes sense. so there may be about five or six chapters each season? i don’t know yet as i’m still working it out but i really want to finish this story for you guys because these ideas are just swarming in my head and are ready to be let out. i’ve just been so busy lately.

Chapter Eight - Machismo

Season 1, Episode 19
Leila settled beside the kitchen counter, enjoying a warm cup of tea while waiting for Zaid to tuck Jasmine into bed. Her last day of the break was approaching its end. Although she missed her colleagues, she acknowledged that this time off had been thoroughly deserved.
As she stood in the kitchen, Leila sensed approaching footsteps and then felt a familiar embrace encircle her waist, drawing her backward against Zaid's chest. She smiled as she recognized his soft kiss on her neck, reaching up to stroke his hair. Setting down her mug on the counter, she turned around, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"You're going back to work tomorrow, so let's do something fun." Zaid suggested, grinning at her.
Arching an eyebrow, Leila tilted her head slightly. "Oh really? What's on your mind?"
"I don't know. Maybe watch a movie, bake some cookies, makeout…"
Leila laughed, bringing his head down to her, attaching her lips to his. They smiled against the kiss as he picked her up, walking all the way over to the couch. Laying her down, Zaid broke the kiss, beginning to pull her shirt off. Leila held herself up with her elbows, looking up at her husband. Her eyes traced his form, down to his arms, falling on the watch she gifted him for his birthday when they first started dating.
"I can't believe you still wear that stupid watch." Leila chuckled, nodding her head towards his wrist. "You could buy any watch that includes better functions but you choose to keep this one."
He looks down onto his wrist, the black enclosing around the time device putting a soft smile on his face. "It's the first present you ever gave me. You best believe I'll be wearing this for the rest of my life." He pecked her lips. "Plus, it still works like it's new. You have some magic in you, I suppose, because all my past watches before you broke after the second day."
She rolled her eyes. "Maybe because you didn't know how to work a watch until I came along, dumbass."
He scoffed, putting a hand over his heart. "Name calling is very bad. Don't be a bully."
Leila groaned, cupping the back of his neck to smash their lips together. "Enough with your stupid jokes." She mumbled against his lips, causing him to grin even wider. He pushed her down onto the couch, kissing her with intense passion as Leila took off his shirt. Zaid began to untie his sweatpants, kicking them off along with the rest of the clothes on the floor. Leila pulled back enough to utter one more sentence. "And don't tease."
"Yes, ma'am." He replied teasingly, slowly entering her with a groan. Leila let out a moan as he began to stretch her out, her mouth hanging open at the pleasure.
Her hands gripped right onto his biceps, Zaid pulling back to push back in once again. He leaned down to muffle her moans with his lips, not wanting to cause any loud noise throughout the house. He continued a steady pace, only increasing his speed once she adjusted.
"Shit, baby." He grunted against her lips, feeling her tight walls squeezing him. "You always feel so good around me."
Leila ran her hand through his hair, gently pulling. "Plea—fuck." Her words were cut off by him hitting a spot inside her that shook her, the pleasure coursing throughout her entire body.
"Yeah? That feel good?"
She only quietly cried out in pleasure, unable to form any coherent thoughts other than him on top of her.
"Words, honey. I need to hear you say it." He breathed out, kissing down her neck. He ensured to leave a mark.
"Yes, it feels so good." She whispered, her lips attaching to his again. They moved in sync until they finally reached their climax, moaning into each other's mouth before Zaid gently collapsed on top of her, using his arms to hold himself up to make sure he didn't push all his weight onto her.
Zaid lifted his head from in between her breasts to softly kiss her all over her face. Starting from her forehead, to her cheeks, to her chin, all the way around until he reached her lips. He carefully scooped her up with his arms, flipping her over to hug her, and kissed the top of her head.
Leila cupped his cheek, locking eyes with him. "I love you so much, Zaid Divan."
He nudged his nose with hers before he brought her hand up to his lips, kissing her knuckles. "I love you more, Leila Kade."
Leila yawned, her eyes slowly shutting as she felt Zaid pull a blanket over them that had been near the couch. He kissed her forehead once more before the two of them fell fast asleep.
Stepping out of the elevator, Leila entered the office through the glass doors, greeted by her colleagues quietly working in the cubicle.
"Look who's back!" Derek chimed in with a hint of teasing in his voice, rising from his desk to welcome her with a brief hug. He then took a step back, appraising her appearance. "Looking sharp as ever, boss lady."
Leila returned his playful tone with a grin, playfully pinching Derek's cheek. "Always the charmer, aren't you?"
Spencer hugged her next, with Elle following right after, embracing her with a warm hug. "Missed you. How did your break go? Feeling refreshed?" The brunette asked.
Leila nodded her head, widening her eyes for the extra effect. "A lot better, actually. So, what's new?"
"There's a new case." JJ interrupted, giving Leila a quick hug. "I'm glad you're back but we'll catch up on the plane." The blonde said before she walked up the stairs towards the conference room.
Leila grinned, looking at her three friends in front of her. "Cool. Where's Aaron and Gideon?"
"Gideon is in his office calling Hotch." Spencer explained. "He took some time off this weekend since it's his birthday today but I guess he has to come in again."
Leila opened her mouth in surprise, her eyes growing wide. "It's his birthday? I completely forgot." However, she thought back to what she told him last week and was glad he decided to take a small break for himself, despite the fact he had to come in for a new case.
"Well, good thing he's here now so you can tell him." Elle stated, her eyes falling on the man who just entered the room. Leila turned around and the four of them immediately yelled out a quick "happy birthday!"
"Thank you." Aaron responded, a little flustered at the gesture. Leila hugged him and he reciprocated, the woman patting his back. "Nice to see you back."
Leila gave him a smile, following all the others who were walking towards the conference room. "Yeah, it gets boring without me, doesn't it?"
Aaron chuckled in response, nodding towards Elle. "Elle may have complained about your absence more than once. Perhaps Spencer too. And Penelope. Derek said he missed going up to your office to annoy you."
She looked up at him, a cheeky grin plastered on her face. "And you?"
He shrugged, but she could see a hint of a smile on his face. "I took your advice and decided to take the weekend off."
Leila grimaced, knowing how the plan didn't turn out all the way successful. "I'm sorry you have to come to work on your birthday."
He shook his head, allowing her to walk in first to the conference room. "Don't worry about it."
Their new case led them to Mexico, where several women had been fatally stabbed. Although local newspapers reported a series of killings and labeled it the work of a serial killer, the Mexican government held a contrary view, asserting that there was no such killer on the loose.
Despite the Mexican government's denial of the serial killer rumors, the team was summoned because they had the latest victim's son in custody as their primary suspect. The authorities wanted the team to travel to Mexico and confirm if this was a one time murder.
After the brief meeting concluded, the team rose from their seats to prepare their bags. As Leila stood up, she noticed Aaron's disappointed expression while he held his phone. Gideon, stationed by the door, also seemed to have observed it.
"Hotch," Gideon called out, prompting the dark-haired man to look up. "Call from the car." Aaron nodded but remained fixated on his phone. Leila sensed that he hadn't anticipated leaving for a case today and perhaps hadn't informed Haley that he wouldn't be back immediately after the meeting. Not wanting to intrude, she left the room, empathizing with him and his family.
After a swift briefing on the jet, Leila settled into her seat toward the back. Gideon approached and took a seat in front of her, placing a cup of coffee on the tray in front of her. Leila looked up at him and expressed her gratitude with a quick thank you.
"I take it you're feeling better?" He asked genuinely, nodding towards the others on the jet who were engrossed in their own activities. "It's been a little hectic without you. All I've been hearing are complaints from these people."
Leila smirked, savoring a sip of her coffee. "Admit it. You missed me."
Wearing a lopsided smile, he returned to perusing the case file. Leila's grin expanded even more, appreciating the camaraderie she shared with her teammates.
Arriving at the Mexico PD, Captain Navarro immediately recognized Gideon. He introduced them to Lieutenant Borquez and shook hands with Gideon. After everyone was acquainted, they were ready to inspect the crime scenes and commence their case.
"I didn't realize you spoke Spanish," Leila remarked, looking at Elle, referring to the moment on the jet when she corrected Spencer. The brunette smiled in response.
"Yeah, it's pretty useful. My mother's Cuban," Elle answered. The two women joined Aaron, Gideon, and Captain Navarro in the car to head to one of the crime scenes. "I don't suppose you know a language that may surprise me?"
"Estarías sorprendido," Leila smirked, prompting Elle to raise an eyebrow, not surprised that her friend also knew Spanish. "Sé mucho más."
Elle chuckled, shaking her head. "At this point, nothing surprises me with you anymore."
After inspecting the victim's house and noting they were searching for a heterosexual male, they returned to the PD. Captain Navarro decided to introduce them to the District Attorney General, Maria Sanchez. Upon their return, Sanchez approached them. "Do not be afraid," Captain Navarro said quietly to them.
"Agente Gideon, Agente Hotchner, Agente Kade," she greeted, shaking all of their hands with remarkable confidence. "It's an honor. Our papers are fascinated with the idea of a serial killer, and when Navarro suggested that I invite you in to dispel this nonsense, I immediately saw the wisdom."
Leila maintained a tight-lipped smile, impressed with Sanchez's boldness but still holding onto her skepticism.
"But enough formalities. I will let you get down to business," Sanchez concluded, her smile never wavering. She excused herself, moving past them with the three agents stepping aside to let her through, followed by her bodyguards.
"She's worse in Spanish," Captain Navarro informed them, leading them inside the PD.
While the guys engaged in conversation with Miguel, the prime suspect in his mother's murder, Leila took a seat beside JJ. The blonde looked up, a grin forming on her face upon realizing who it was. "Hey, you're back."
Leila raised an eyebrow, supporting her chin with a hand. "Yeah, and I just met the District Attorney General. Confident woman."
JJ laughed, nodding in agreement. "Definitely, but she really does not want to believe there's a serial killer here."
Leila bit her lip before sighing. "That's unfortunate. She's going to have to learn the truth sooner or later."
"Mhm. Love how the day you get back, you're already going to Mexico, huh?" The blonde asked.
"Hey, it's a nice surprise, I'm not going to lie," Leila laughed, raising her hands. "Who doesn't love a lovely trip outside of the states?"
JJ held up a finger, pointing at her. "You're not wrong." She glanced back at the guys talking to Miguel and then turned back to Leila. "So, what do you think?"
Leila shrugged. "I think that Miguel is hiding something, but he didn't kill his mother." She spoke truthfully. "His mother hid a photo of him in a drawer, away from all of the family photos on display. He had a fight with his mother before he left, but I believe it was because of something completely different."
JJ furrowed her eyebrows, still confused. "What do you think he's hiding?"
"His sexuality," Leila confirmed, crossing her arms. "Miguel is gay. That's why he'd rather stay quiet than reveal that part about him. If anyone were to find out, they'd kill him. Things work differently around here. He's scared because he knows he'll never be accepted for who he is."
The blonde nodded in understanding, her eyes shifting to the men walking back into the room. Aaron called them over to talk outside, and the two women followed.
"The best way to bring the attorney general on board is by providing a complete profile," Gideon told Navarro, making his case.
Navarro shrugged, looking at Gideon. "What do you need from me?"
"We'll need the files on all the murders," Derek said, his arms crossed in front of him as he leaned against a car.
The captain nodded. "Of course, but I must warn you. These reports were taken by local police in the area who are not used to this type of killer," he said honestly, sharing all the information. "Most basic details are missing."
"We'll take a look at them," Spencer responded.
"We also need to get the whole story out of Miguel Trejo, and right now, he's not talking," Aaron continued.
"But why does that matter?" Navarro sighed. "Obviously, he's not a serial killer."
Leila tried her best to make him understand, recognizing the difficulty of the situation. "Yes, we know that, but we need people to understand that these are serial killings and not just a crime of passion. The family is angry, and we understand that, but keeping it a secret would only escalate things further."
"And why wouldn't Miguel talk if he's innocent?" Derek questioned.
Captain Navarro leaned against the wall, shaking his head. "It must have something to do with the fact that he is homosexual."
Derek raised an eyebrow. "He'd rather be straight in jail than gay as a free man?"
Navarro pointed towards the PD. "I can protect him in here, but if he's taken to a prison in Mexico City and the other inmates find out that he is gay, he will be killed. That's the way things work here."
Spencer creased his eyebrows in confusion, not seeing any other solution. "So how do we get him to talk?"
Leila looked toward the woman sitting inside, and an idea instantly popped into her head. "His sister."
After questioning Miguel's sister and his boyfriend, Roberto, and uncovering more evidence, they reached the conclusion that the unsub was a man disguised as a woman. They presented the profile to the police at the department, but as soon as they finished, news came in that another body had been found.
The latest victim was identified as Isabel Santiago, displaying the same wounds found on the previous victims. The team went to the victim's house to search for new clues, paying particular attention to the necklace that had been torn off her neck.
"That's the first time he's taken jewelry from the victims," Leila observed, standing up after inspecting the victim.
"So, why was this one different?" Derek questioned, glancing at everyone in the room.
They exited the house and walked outside. The victim's daughter was sobbing near the police car, and Leila frowned at the heartbreaking scene.
"Over the past two years, we've had an average of one killing every nine weeks," Navarro stated, hands on his hips.
"Now two in three days," Aaron added.
"That's a pretty extreme escalation," Gideon commented. "He'll kill again soon."
Derek pointed to the daughter. "Who's that over there?"
"That's the daughter of the victim," one of the officers answered.
"Maybe she can tell us something about the necklace," Derek suggested.
Leila and Elle proceeded to question the daughter, Anna, while Derek stood by their side. They asked about the jewelry, and Anna responded, telling them that the necklace was hers, as her mother never wore jewelry herself.
Aaron approached them and spoke quietly, informing them that there was a disturbance at the police station.
They arrived at the PD, witnessing the chaos that had transpired in a short amount of time. "What is going on here, Borquez?" Navarro asked. "What did they do?"
Borquez shrugged. "They are following the orders of the FBI. Bringing in the sex criminals."
"What did you tell them?" Navarro asked the team.
Aaron stepped forward. "We put out there the possibility that he dresses like a woman. We told them to look into people convicted of sex crimes. We didn't mean this."
Leila looked around, her mouth agape at all the people being detained by the officers. A car pulled up, and Maria Sanchez stepped out in a rush. Leila could tell she was angry.
"These men were supposed to put the serial killer rumors to rest, and now they are making us look like a joke," Maria said with frustration. "What do you want people to think of us?"
"It was a misunderstanding," Navarro responded, trying to deescalate the situation.
"And it won't happen again," Maria looked towards the team. "It was your idea to bring them here, and obviously, it was a waste of time. Please, go home." She finished, turning around to walk back towards the car and entering it. They watched her drive away, and Leila leaned towards Aaron.
"She's scary," she said quietly, and the man chuckled in response.
Finally, they located the unsub and identified his next target. The pattern emerged: he targeted victims by assaulting and subsequently killing their mothers. With this realization, they rushed to intercept the imminent attack on the last person they believed the unsub would target.
Barging into the house, guns raised, they moved toward the back of the house. There, they discovered a person on the ground, surrounded by a pool of blood. As they approached for a closer look, Derek flipped the person over onto their back, revealing the unsub who had been brutally stabbed.
Noises emanated from the bushes, causing them all to raise their guns in that direction. They lowered them once they realized it was the women who had been the unsub's victims. "He pretended to be a woman," one of the women spoke. "Now he doesn't have to pretend." They all dropped their weapons, standing up straight as the team and the officers maintained their focus on them.
Having successfully wrapped up the case, the team headed back home. They gathered their belongings from the hotel and made their way to the jet, eager to return to the states.
Upon reaching the BAU, they collected the remainder of their belongings and prepared to head to their respective homes. Leila walked into her office, turned on the lights, and noticed something on her desk. Furrowing her eyebrows in confusion, she picked it up.
She instantly recognized the handwriting and chuckled, shaking her head. "Left this for you after you come back from your case. Jasmine says hi. We both miss you." She read the note, whispering to herself. Underneath was a photo of Zaid and Jasmine, and she tucked the note into her jacket pocket. "You just have to be so extra, don't you Divan?" She couldn't wipe away the grin on her face, knowing her husband would be the person to leave a physical note instead of a text message just to be dramatic. Grabbing her bag once again, she exited her office.
