a/n: sometimes life kicks our ass and its hard to do things you used to love. thank you to @wumboho for sending me an ask that reminded me why i loved writing this series in the first place. this chapter is short, but sweet. i hope you enjoy.
part 47 of So Happy Together
masterlist
“Okay so are you ready for the day I have planned for us?”  Ben asked as you packed your last bag in the car.
“I mean I guess I still would like to know what it is though.” you responded. You got in the car quick enough that he didn’t have a chance to open the door for you, and he glared at you as he closed the trunk, and got into the driver’s seat.
“Have you never heard of a surprise? Its an unexpected event that-”
“Ben, my love, I know what a surprise is.”
“Well sorry if you act like you don’t. C'mon I’m trying to be a good boyfriend, and do nice things for you.”
“They can still be nice, and not a surprise.”
“I will take you back to school if you don’t stop asking.” He said with a big smile on his face.
You hadn’t even noticed he was already driving. You put your hands up, and laughed.
“Fine, I give in. I will stop asking what it is.”
“And I thank you for that.”
“But can I ask for a hint?”
“No hints, no guesses, you will not find out until we get there.” he placed his hand on top of your head, and ruffled your hair making it frizzy.
You chewed on your lip a little as you thought about his grandparents anniversary party. This was the first time you would be introduced as his girlfriend. You were positive you would get hit with a lot more questions than you did when you were just ‘Matt’s friend’ or ‘Obi-Wans granddaughter’.
“What are you thinking about?” Ben asked, pulling you out of your own head.
“This party thing for your grandparents’ anniversary.”
“What about it?”
“I don’t know. I’m just nervous people won’t like me.”
“You have literally already met everyone.”
“Yeah as Obi-Wan’s grandchild, but not Ben Solo’s girlfriend.”
“You’re worried because now you’re my girlfriend?”
“Yes. I mean what if they think we’re not good together. Or what if they liked Rey so much they hate me because i’m not her.”
“Listen my grandma is the nicest person ever. You met her you know how sweet she is even if she didn’t like you she would never show it.”
“Oh great that makes me feel better.” he slipped his hand onto yours. They both rested on your leg, and he squeezed your hand.
“Even if they didn’t like you. Hell even if they absolutely hate you. I wouldn’t care. It doesn’t matter what they think as long as we dont hate each other then nothings gonna come between us.” you smiled as you watched the road ahead. He squeezed your hand again, and you looked at him.
“I love you.” he started. “Even if the whole world hated us together, I wouldn’t care. I’m not leaving you until you tell me to go.”
You felt your smile widen as you stared at him. He smiled, and looked back at you before quickly turning back to the road.
“What are you smiling about Kenobi?”
“You just said you love me.”
“Did I? I don’t remember saying that.”
“You, Ben Solo, just said that you love me.”
“Okay, don’t let it get to your head.”
“Say it again.”
“Say what again?” he said with that big goofy smile that you adored.
“You know what.” he looked over to you again. You looked into his eyes for what felt like forever before he paid attention to the road again.
“Say it again. Please.” he squeezed your hand again. You knew that must have done it.
“I love you. I’ve always loved you, how could I not?” you smiled, and brought his hand up to your face, and kissed the top of his knuckles. He smiled widely as he squeezed your hand again.
The rest of the ride was quiet. The radio played gently as he drove. You kept his hand in yours not letting go for a single second. Every now, and then you stole a glance at him as he drove. You still couldn’t believe he was yours, and you were his. That day before Christmas break you were sure that you would finish that tour, and never see him again. At the time you were happy with the idea of that outcome. Now as you stared at him, and felt his hand holding yours, you were even more happy that hadn’t happened. Even if you both had gone through a lot together. Even if it took a few months. You both always managed to find a way back to each other. That’s all that mattered.
Soon you started seeing familiar things around you. It took a few minutes, but you had finally realized where you were. This was the road leading up to his grandparents house. You felt nervous again, and involuntarily squeezed his hand harder.
“Dont worry theyre not home.” he said to reassure you.
You felt relief flood your body, and relaxed as he pulled into the driveway. He hopped out quickly, and ran over to your side of the car, and opened the door. You stepped out, and looked at the homefront. It looked drastically different from the last time you had been here. The driveway was empty, and the lawn looked empty without all the christmas decorations. Ben put an arm around your waist, and led you inside.
“Okay for this part I need you to close your eyes.” you sighed, and closed your eyes. You felt Ben put his hands over them as he began to walk you through the house.
“You do know that I have my eyes closed right?” you asked.
“Just in case you try to peek early I can’t have you ruin a week of planning.”
You laughed as he kept directing you on where to go. You heard a door open, and then felt a sudden rush of warm air hit you. A few more steps, and you were officially outside, but you weren’t sure where exactly.
“Okay stand right here, and keep your eyes closed.” he said as he stepped away from you.
You obeyed, and kept your eyes shut tight. You heard what sounded like whispering, and quick movements.
“Alright. You can look.” slowly you opened your eyes, and took in your surroundings.
There were flowers everywhere. All different kinds, and colors. There was a big tree to your far left with a bench beside it. You looked in front of you, and felt your heart stop. There was a table set up with two chairs, and some plates. Behind it was a familiar lake. Ben stood in front of it smiling at you as you realized where you were.
“Is this-”
“Where we first kissed?” he finished for you. “Yeah. the exact spot actually.”
You walked closer, and noticed Matt was standing there too. He smiled at you when you looked at him. He was wearing the same exact thing he forced Ben to wear on his first date with Elaine. It was obviously a lot bigger than him, and he had to wear a belt to keep the pants on.
“Matt what the hell are you wearing?” you asked while trying not to laugh.
“He played waiter for me, and Elaine’s first date, and asked me to play waiter for this one. I really didn’t want to, but Elaine made me.”
“Elaine knew about this?” you asked as you looked over to Ben.
“She helped me plan it.” he admitted as he pulled a chair out for you.
You sat down, and he pushed your chair in before taking his seat. As soon as he sat down you smiled and looked at him. He reached his hand across the table, and you took it.
“Uh hate to ruin the moment, but what do you guys want to drink?” Matt said.
“You’re actually gonna serve us?” you asked him.
“Yes, trust me I don’t want to. This outfit is ugly.” he responded.
“Ben are you really gonna make him do this?” you asked him. He looked like he was holding back laughter when you sighed.
“Ben please, just let the poor boy go. I would rather it be just the two of us anyways.”
“Alright fine. You’re free to go Matt.”
“Y/N you are my savior.” he walked off, already starting to rip the costume off.
“I can’t believe you actually made him do that.”
“Hey, in my defence he made me do it. Is it a crime to want revenge?”
“No, but that doesn’t make it right.”
“It does make it funny though.”
“Okay maybe it was a little funny.”
“It was only a little funny to you, because your eyes were closed when he tripped on his pants.”
“He tripped on his pants, and you still made me keep my eyes closed?”
“I really didn’t wanna spoil the surprise.”
“You know what Ben, I can forgive everything you have ever done to me, but I don’t think I could forgive you for that.” you tried to keep a straight face as long as you could. It took a minute for both of you to burst into laughter.
Tears streamed down your face as you doubled over laughing at the thought of Matts pants being so being big he tripped on them. Ben laughed along with you since he didn’t get a chance to laugh earlier. After a few minutes your laughter died down a bit. You were trying to catch your breath when Ben stood, and went inside. You sat in your seat, and looked out at the lake. There was a stone railing separating you from the water. You listened to the gentle waves hitting against the stone, the sound of frogs calling out to one another, the small splashes of some ducks swimming around. It was beautiful. Even more beautiful than you remember it being. Certainly a lot more quiet too. You didn’t hear the sound of music or people excitedly counting down to the new year. There weren’t loud pops of fireworks above you. Just the sound of the lake, and the wildlife. That was always something you loved more than anything. You watched as a duck swam by with her babies following close behind her, all of them struggling to keep up.
“It’s pretty nice huh?” you heard Ben say.
You turned, and saw him holding two cups of water. He placed one in front of you then set the other one in front of his seat.
“Yeah. I don’t even remember it being like this on new years.”
“Oh yeah?” he walked to stand next to you as you both looked back out to the lake. “And why is that?”
“I guess I was just distracted.” you looked at him, and saw he was already staring back at you. He smirked, and placed a hand on your cheek.
“Distracted by what?” he asked. You nuzzled your face into his hand as he started stroking his thumb across your cheekbone.
“Well there was this pretty cute guy that kissed me. I would count that as pretty distracting.”
He smiled, and leaned down to kiss your lips. It was gentle, but you felt all his love in it. He pulled away, and sat his forehead on yours.
“Say it again, Ben.” he laughed before pecking your lips again.
“I love you.” he said as he stood straight again. He pulled his hand away, and walked back inside. You smiled as you felt your face, and ears heat up.
For so long you wished he would finally just say those words. Now you never wanted to stop hearing them. Hearing him say he loved you was even more peaceful than anything you could think of. You wouldn’t be too upset hearing him say that everyday for the rest of your life.

prologue
CHAPTER 1
“Remind me again why we’re buying my materials for school three months before we actually start term?” you groaned, walking beside Draco through Diagon Alley.
He rolled his eyes, “Father hates getting caught in the whirlwind of everyone trying to get their items at once. He prefers shopping early in the year.”
“I don’t understand why he has a say when he’s not even here,” you mumbled, moving aside as people pushed past you. You took a look around, faintly remembering walking down these streets when you were younger. You sighed, stopping to the side to let two men holding two abnormally large carts of Merlin knows what, between you and Draco. “Didn’t even bother seeing me. I’ve been home for a week.”
Draco felt his shoulders drop, not having the heart to tell you that Lucius would leave the house before you woke to avoid you. He knew you didn’t like your father much, but Draco also knew that family is the most important thing to you. Lucius was still your father, of course. He pulled you by your arm, “Come on. Get a move on.”
You linked your arm through his, ruffling his perfectly styled hair. You chuckled as he swatted your hands away, groaning about how it took him ages to get it that way. You grinned up at him, watching as he smiled with his teeth, sparkling in the light. “Where are we off to first, my dearest brother?”

note: ariana grandes new song came out an hour ago. this chapter was written in that hour. enjoy. also stream positions by ariana grande
The air was cold as the two of you walked to Maz’s place. You explained to her that a lot of students eat there since it's within walking distance, and is open 24/7. She listened intently as you told her about you, and Hux’s friendship really started there. You told her about everyone she would be meeting tonight, and she confessed that she was a bit nervous. The two of you walked into the restaurant, and you looked around for your friends.
“Don't be nervous, trust me they're the most laid back people you will ever meet,” you said as you spotted them. You led her over and smiled as you heard everyone trying to greet you.
“Hey guys, this is my new roommate Kaydel!” you announced.
“It's lovely to see you again Kaydel.” your grandfather said. “Allow me to introduce everyone.”
You sat down next to Ben who gave you a soft kiss on the lips after you took your seat next to him. Matt was focused on the menu trying to figure out what he wanted, and Phasma smiled at the young girl.
“That very rude young man with his nose in the menu is Matt.” He still didnt lift his head up, and Phasma hit his shoulder.
“WHY?” He yelled. “Oh, hey, who's this?” he asked pointing at Kaydel.
“Kaydel you would know if you were listening.” Phasma whispered to him. She giggled as she watched him get scolded.
“The young lady next to him.” your grandfather continued nodding towards phasma. “Is the brilliant Miss Phasma.” she smiled, and waved at Kaydel.
“Lastly the gentleman holding onto my granddaughter like his life depends on it, is Ben.”
“Nice to meet you, we're probably gonna see each other a lot.” he said as he held your hand in his larger one.
“Here you can't sit next to me Kaydel.” you said pulling out the chair next to you. She sat down, and smiled as she looked around at everyone.
“So Phasma here is gonna tell us all about her summer in New York!” You informed her.
“No way! You spent the entire summer in New York??” she asked.
“Yes, I did a summer program at a college there for theater.”
“You’ll hear all about the theater club here from this one she never shuts up about it.” Matt said with a laugh. She playfully smacked a menu against his chest.
“There's a theater club here?” Kaydel asked.
“Yeah, are you interested? Del is always looking for more people to join.” Phasma informed her.
Phasma bonded with Kaydel immediately after finding out she was interested in acting with the theater club. After everyone ordered she went into telling everyone at the table about her summer. The whole time Ben never let go of you. Even when you pulled your hand away he held on to your thigh. He even ate with one hand just to keep another one on you. You listened, and ate as everyone around you conversed. Matt kept trying to include Kaydel in him, and Phasmas conversations. You can tell he just wanted her to feel welcome, and that she just wasn't too comfortable yet. You told Matt, and Phasma about what happened when you dropped Hux off. Matt looked upset, and you knew it's because he wished he could have gone with you.
“Well, it's getting late. I better head off.” your grandfather said. “Will you be coming home with me tonight darling?”
You looked over at Kaydel before answering him.
“I think I'm gonna stay in the dorm tonight.” you said as you nudged her with your elbow.
“Very well. Shall I pick you up tomorrow so you can get your car?”
“I can take her Obi-Wan.” Ben said after he plopped his last bit of pancake in his mouth.
“Then I look forward to seeing the two of you tomorrow.” he walked over to you, and kissed your cheek. You kissed his back and gave him a hug before he walked off to leave the rest of you at the restaurant.
“Your grandpa is really nice.” Kaydel said.
“Are you kidding Obi-Wan is the best!” Ben said as he wrapped an arm around you.
“Yeah he’s literally one of the chillest dudes I know.” Matt added.
The rest of the table went on to tell Kaydel some stories about your grandfather, and how much they loved him.
“Remember when we all played in the rain at Elaine's graduation party?” Phasma asked.
“Oh yeah! I got sick like two days after!” Matt said. The table had been cleared of the plates, but all you had been to caught up in talking to actually leave. You knew Maz would never kick you out though.
Finally Matt yawned, and it caused a chain reaction of everyone else yawning. That was a sign that it was time to head home. You all got up, and went to the front to pay your bills. As you walked out Ben offered to drive everyone back. You happily agreed, and climbed in the front seat as everyone else got in. Phasma talked with Matt, and Kaydel as Ben drove towards the dorms. You studied his face as he drove. His eyes were glued in front of him, and his jaw was relaxed for once. You grabbed his hand that was resting on your leg, and held it tight in yours. You watched as he lips lifted into a smile at just the feeling of your hand around his. You lifted his hands towards your face, and kissed it before lowering them back down.
He Pulled into the parking lot, and everyone scrambled out. Phasma, and Matt walked with Kaydel as they continued their conversation. You stayed behind with Ben for a bit.
“She seems like a sweet kid.” he said as he pinned you to the car between his arms.
“She is. Her parents just dumped her here. Poor kid looked like she was gonna shit herself when I spoke to her.” you placed your arms on his shoulders, and played with the hair at the nape of his neck.
“She's gonna be okay. After all she has you.” he reassured with a smile. He leaned down, and put his forehead to yours. You closed your eyes, and smiled as you felt soft breaths coming from his nose.
“I'm sorry you were so upset about Hux leaving. I know you, and him were close.” he whispered as the two of you stayed in the same position. You pecked his lips before pulling your face away.
“I’ll be okay. I Have you guys to keep me company.” you went to walk away when he grabbed your hand, roughly pulled you into his arms, and slammed his lips against yours. You closed your eyes, and met his kiss with the same amount of force.
He wrapped one arm around your waist, and the other was at the back of your neck gently tugging at your hair. One of your hands was lovingly rubbing the side of his cheek while the other gripped his shirt tightly as you unknowingly tried to get closer to him. The only sound that filled the air was his heavy breathing as he desperately clung to you. He tongue gently swiped against your bottom lip. You mimicked the same motion, and he practically slammed you against the side of his car. A moan escaped you as he did this, and he snaked his hand from where they rested to your hips. You moved your hand from his cheek and ran it through his hair tugging on a few strands now, and then. He pressed his thumbs into the front of your hips hard as the two of you continued to make out. You knew there would be bruises there the next day. You felt your face heat up at the thought of him leaving a mark on you, and you unknowingly moaned again.
He pulled away, and pressed his forehead to yours. The two of you gasped as your lips were pulled apart, and your heavy breathing joined his. He took a deep breath before speaking.
“That was uhh-”
“Good.” you finished.
“I would say it was a bit more than that.” he said as he smiled. He looked beautiful like this. Lips red, swollen, and shaking. Face red with a thin layer of sweat coating it. His hair completely disheveled from you running your hand through it. You smiled back, and gave his lips one more peck before he let you go.
“I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“I'll see you then, my love.” he said as he playfully patted your ass while you walked away. He waited until you walked into the building before he left.
You waved at him before entering, and you smiled like an idiot as you walked down the halls towards your dorm. Once you got to your room you quietly opened the door, and saw Kaydel laying in her bed with her back turned towards her wall. She was snoring softly as she slept. You tiptoed in, and closed the door behind you. You started getting ready for bed. You pulled a shirt out of one of your bags, and an envelope fell out. You picked it up, and inspected it seeing your name written in a beautiful, and neat cursive. It was the letter Hux had given you before he left. You sat on your bed, and turned on your lamp to read it clearly. You opened it, and unfolded the paper.
Y/N,
As you read this I'm either on my way to Oxford, or I have been gone for a while. There are so many things I could thank you for. Firstly for being my friend. Not many people can handle me. I never hold back when I have something to say, I am extremely judgemental, I come from a horrid family, and I am all around not a good person. At least I wasn't before we became friends. I believed that my feelings towards you would be much of the same. Just a silly crush that I was to ignore in order to stay goal oriented. That day I saw you at Maz’s everything in my body begged me to call you over, and for once I listened to my heart instead of my brain. When you looked over to me I knew I would never be the same. As time went on with our friendship my crush turned into admiration. You are everything I wish I could be. You are effortlessly the kindest person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. When I’m with you I feel as if there is more to me than just the Hux name. Like I am more than what my family expects of me. When you are around I am more than just Brendol Hux’s son, like I am more than just an heir to the Hux fortune. When I'm with you I'm simply just Armitage. A boy who loves art, a boy with fears, a boy who loves cats, a boy who can feel without being ashamed. You have given me that, and I can never repay you for it. I always thought my father ruined me with his abuse. I  believed that I would grow to be just as bitter, mean, and hateful as him. In the short year that I spent with you I learned it does not have to be that way. I can be more than he is. I can learn to forgive, I can learn to love, I can learn to be happy. You taught me that. You taught me that I can be more of a man than he ever will be. I never thought I could love a person until you came into my life, and I certainly did not think anyone could love me. I would also like to thank you for teaching me that it is not necessary for me to be so serious. You showed me that it's alright if I mess up. It's okay if I laugh during a tense situation, because 20 minutes later it won't matter. You taught me that I am human, and there's nothing I can do about, but smile, and continue on. There is absolutely nothing I can do to thank, or repay you for what you have done for me. Over the past few months you have become more than just a crush. You became my friend. My family. I love you. I wish you nothing, but the best during your senior year. I can not wait to hear about it every step of the way.
Love,
 Armitage.
“Are you okay?”  you heard Kaydel ask you.
You didn't realize how hard you were crying til you looked up at the little mirror hanging above your bed.your face was a bit swollen. Your eyes were bright red, and you could see how wet your cheeks were from all your tears. You sniffled, and wiped your face with the sleeves of the jacket you still hadn't taken off.
“Yeah. I just really miss my friend. He was one of the first friends I ever made here. We did almost everything together. Now there's an ocean between us.” you explained to her. She gave you a sad look before she got up from her bed, and sat next to you.
“I had to leave my best friend behind in Dulathia. I'm fine being alone, but being without her. I haven’t had to do that in years.” she said as she placed a hand on your shoulder.
“Your bed used to belong to my best friend.” you smiled at her.
For the next 2 hours you two sat in your bed telling each other about your best friends. The more she spoke about hers, the more you saw yourself in her. Her parents were never around and all she had was her best friends, Abby. She told you about how they cried together for days when her parents announced she would be attending the school you both sat in now. About how they spent one last day together. About how Abby begged her parents to allow her to come with her to help her move in. she informed you that even though they were apart now the two of them fully intended on going to Dartmouth together. It warmed your heart to watch how big her smile would get when she spoke about seeing her best friend again.
Finally you both fell asleep still sitting on your bed. You woke up to the sound of someone knocking on the door. You sat up to see Kaydel curled up with Bruce in her arms. You smiled, and stood up. Hearing another knock you walked over, and opened it to see Ben standing on the other side.
“Why are you still wearing your clothes from last night?” He asked as he walked in. He looked at Kaydel in your bed, and pointed at her.
“And why is she holding our son?” he said in a loud voice. You shushed him and put a hand over his mouth.
“Quiet dude. We fell asleep while talking and I never changed.” you explained. He took your hand off his mouth, and held your wrist.
“Well hurry, and change I wanna take you to go get the rest of your stuff before we move on with what I have planned for today.” he said as you pulled away, and searched your closet.
“And what do you have planned for today?” you asked while pulling out an outfit.
“If I wanted you to know I would have told you when I planned it.” you shook your head as you walked into the small bathroom to get dressed.
You walked out, and stopped at your desk to write a note to Kaydel telling her where you were going. You also wrote your number down for her to text you if she needed anything. You put on some shoes, and grabbed your bag before you, and bed headed out.
Ben opened your door for you like he always did, and you sat in the car. Once he got in he immediately started it, and placed a hand on your lap where it always was when he drove. The ride there you two chatted about Kaydel. You told him about her, and what you guys talked about last night. He smiled listening to you talk about the girl. After you got done telling him all about her he told you about his classes. Him, and Mitaka had chosen their classes together so they had almost all their classes with each other.
“When am I going to meet Mitaka?” you asked him.
“You haven't met him yet?” he asked.
“No, that was Rey.”
“But he knows so much about you.”
“Nope. Never met him.” you said.
“Damn. Guess I talked about you so much to him I thought you had actually met him.”
“Nice save.” you said sarcastically.
“Oh thank you.” he said with a laugh before he brought your hand towards his face to kiss it.
Soon you were pulling into your grandfather's house. As soon as Ben stopped the car your grandfather opened the door, and waved at you two. Ben hopped out, and opened your door to let you out. Your grandfather smiled watching as you stepped out, and kissed Ben before walking over to him. You threw your arms around him as you said hello, and the three of you went inside. To your surprise your grandfather had made breakfast for the three of you. Him, and Ben talked about Anakin, and Padme's anniversary party coming up. Apparently you weren't supposed to know about it yet, because Ben wanted to ask you during your date today. Your grandfather laughed as he watched Ben awkwardly ask you to go with him. You of course said yes, but you weren't sure you were ready to meet them as his girlfriend. From  what Matt had told you they really liked Rey, and you wondered if they would be as accepting of you as they were of her.
After you said yes your grandfather continued talking about the party. The more you heard about it the more nervous you felt. You had been to their house before. Even at a party they threw, but now that you were going as Ben's date that changed things. You sneakily pulled out your phone, and texted Elaine for advice. You listened as they continued their conversation, and watched your phone waiting for a reply.
‘They are gonna love you. Really. You don't have to worry.’ she responded.
‘I know, but they really liked Rey. What if they dont like me bc im not like her???’ you sent back.
‘I promise you they will adore you.’ you read her text over and over before replying about how much you missed her.
Just then you were pulled out of your thoughts by Ben nudging you with his elbow. You looked at him, and he gave you a big smile. You instantly felt at ease seeing how much bigger his smile got when you returned it. The slight sparkle in his eye as he looked into yours. You loved him, and he loved you. What does it matter if they don't like you?

Emmett: I am not entirely positive what a pasta is but when I find out, hooooo boy.
Jasper: Ok so I’m not seeing any mushroom flavoured pasta, Em what do we do thats like… the only thing I can think of that it could be.

Edward: Jasper, it’s called mushroom ravioli, and she’s only ever eaten it once, and I’m like 90% sure it was sub-par at best. Also, this is just mushroom SHAPED, it doesnt have any mushroom in it what-so-ever. I don’t even thi-

Always And Forever
Chapter 45 of So Happy Together
masterlist
The end of the summer came quick. Elaine had been gone a week now. It was the worst week of your life. It was a week filled with crying. You would cry with Hux, and Matt. Hux , of course, stayed dry eyed but you, and Matt made up for it. You didn’t see much of Ben. He was busy with getting himself ready for his first semester to start, and he knew you wanted to spend some time with Hux before he went away. There were so many things to do in the next few days. You had to take Hux to the airport, pack up all the things you had at your grandfathers, re-do your side of the dorm for the new person coming in, and get some supplies for school.
Hux stayed at your grandfather’s house the night before. He wanted to spend time with the both of you before he left. You woke up almost as soon as the sun came up. The house still felt empty without Gideon. Every morning you woke up expecting to see him looking up at you from the foot of the bed. You stood up from the bed, and got dressed. Looking at the time you did the math to see when you had to leave. An hour. You had an hour with him. Quietly you left your room. Walking past your grandfather’s room you peered in to see him peacefully sleeping. Smiling to yourself you walked to the guest room where Hux was. His body was taking up the whole bed, Millie was sleeping peacefully on his stomach. He had one hand on her back, and the other laying on the pillow beside him. His hair was messy. The little strands stuck out in every direction. It was different from his normal slick down proper style he kept it in.
Slowly you walked in. Millie looked up at you, and meowed softly at you. She stood up, and stretched before hopping off of Hux to rub herself against your leg. Hux stayed perfectly still in his sleep. To the point where you think he might actually just be dead. You smiled watching him sleep before you walked over to the other side of the bed. You crawled in, and laid your head on his chest listening to his heartbeat. He stirred a bit at the sudden weight before he wrapped his arms around your body.
“Am I allowed to ask why you decided to get in with me?” He asked in a quavering voice.
“I’m gonna miss you so much when you go.” You lifted yourself off his chest, and laid your head on the pillow next to his.
“I’m sure you will forget about me quickly.” He straightened his body out so you could lay comfortably. “I’m sure Ben will prove to be a good distraction from my absence.”
“Nothing will distract me from you being gone. You’re my best lab partner.”
“And you.” He looked over to you, and you looked back at him. “Are my best friend.”
You felt tears slip down your face. Your body shook as you cried.
“Please. None of that. It will only make this harder for us.” He said as he wiped the tears away.
“How are you okay with this? You’re leaving, and it’s like it doesn’t even phase you.”
“I’m sure it will all set in once I’m there.” He hugged you close to him as you continued crying.
“Don’t forget us.” You said with a sniffle.
He simply smiled at you, and got up. You forgot he sleeps in nothing, but his boxers. He walked over to his suitcase, and pulled out an outfit. You stayed crying on the bed as he got dressed. He then grabbed Millie’s travel bag, and placed her inside.
“It’s time.” Was all he said. You got up, and helped him get his bags in the car.
The ride to the airport was quiet, and long. Matt couldn’t come since it was Hans’s birthday. You all had your last together the day before to make up for it. Once you arrived at the airport you found out there had been a delay for 3 hours. The two of you sat by his gate, and talked.
“So what do you have to do once you get there?” you asked him
“Well my father is meeting me at the school. I have to spend my first year in a dorm so there’s no way of getting out of that, but my apartment is ready so that is where miss Millie will be staying.”
Just as he said her name she stuck her little paw out of one of the crates bars. You wiggled your finger in front of it, and watched as she struggled to catch it.
“I will be staying at the dorm 3 days a week. The rest I will be with her.”
“Is it scary? Leaving home?”
“Most of my family is there. We moved here when I was young. Perhaps it will feel more like home than here.” He smiled. In his smile you saw he wasn’t scared. He was excited. He really was going home. Who were you to be upset about it.
He would be back again. It wasn’t going to be forever. So why did it feel that way? Like this is where your friendship ended? Your thoughts were interrupted by an announcement saying his flight would be boarding in a few minutes. With that you both got up, and made you way over to drop Millie off. You stood at the gate looking out at the sky. He looked with you. The two of you looked at each other finally, and you watched as tears fell down his face. This was the first time you have ever seen him cry, or show any real emotion. You immediately started crying with him, and he held you tight as he sobbed.
“I don’t want to leave you.” He said between cries. You held him tighter than you already were.
“You’ll be back. When you do come back I’ll be right here” You whispered against his shoulder.
The final announcement for his boarding was heard, and he pulled away. You smiled at each other, and he kissed the top of your head before backing away towards the gate.
“I love you, Kenobi. Always, and forever.” He yelled as he got closer to the gate.
“Always, and Forever Armitage.” You called back wiping your face.
You watched through the window as the plane boarded. You watched it take flight, and you stayed long after it was gone. That was the first time you had ever seen Hux show any kind of emotion. He was scared, but not because he was leaving home. He was scared, because he was leaving you. Since that moment you walked into the diner, and sat with him he felt like family. He felt the same about you. When it came down to it you two were the same. The family you were born into felt foreign, but you both managed to find that belonging in each other. You watched as more planes took off. Wondering if anyone else was leaving their family behind to live somewhere new. If anyone else was hurting the way you, and Hux were.
After an hour you decided it was time to go. You got up from the seat you had taken, and walked out to your car. Sitting in the driver’s seat you took a deep breath to keep yourself from crying again. You started the car, and made the long trip back home. When you got home you noticed your grandfather was still home. You walked in, and threw your bag down by the door. You slid your shoes off, and placed them next to your grandfathers. Quietly you walked into the den, and saw him sitting in his chair reading a book.
“Hello there, my dear. Has our friend departed?” He asked, setting the book face down on the chairs arm.
“Yeah.” You said sadly as you sat down on the couch. “I thought you worked today.”
“Well, yes, I’m supposed to. I figured today may be hard for you, with Elaine gone, and Hux leaving. So I figured we could spend the day together. Perhaps go shopping for some new dorm items.” He said with a smile.
“That sounds nice.” You said staring at the ceiling.
“Perfect. I’ll make us some lunch, and give you time to rest, and we can go school shopping for this year.”
“You know you don’t have to take me school shopping right? I don’t want you to waste the day doing something that boring.”
“Nonsense. Any time I spend with you isn’t boring.” He walked out and headed to the kitchen.
You felt empty inside. Like your whole body was numb. You thought that you would be fine since you were dating Ben, but you just felt nothing. Your best friends were gone, and you didn’t know what to do. Even your grandfather was sad about Hux leaving. He wouldn’t say it out loud, but the way he talked about all his memories with him let you know that he was missing him. The whole shopping trip he reminisced about all the conversations, and debates they had. Part of you wondered if he viewed Hux as his grandchild too. He loved having Hux around along with you. The shopping had gone by quickly. You had been attending the school long enough to know exactly what it was you would need to get you through the year. After you had finished getting all your supplies you both stopped to get lunch before heading to your dorm to set up everything for your new roommate.
Thoughts flooded your brain about who the girl might be. If she would want to split the room so you each had your own side, or if she would be fine having everything mixed up like you, and Elaine. If she would be your age, or younger than you. Was she from here, or another city? The main thing that bugged you was the nerves of whether or not she would like you, and you her.
“I’m sure you two will get along fine. I don’t see Luke rooming you with someone you wouldn’t like especially since you, and Ben are together.” your grandfather said as he drove you both to the school to drop your things off.
“I know he wouldn’t, but still there’s always a chance.”
“Are you worried that you won’t like them, or are you worried you may like them too much?” he asked. You pouted, and crossed your arms.
“I hate you when you’re right you know that.”
“Then I can’t imagine you like me very much.” he said with a smile while he kept his eyes on the road. You smiled, and looked out the window to watch the buildings pass as you drove. He really was right. What if you love your new roommate? What if you loved her more than Elaine? That couldn’t happen. You wouldn’t let it. Elaine certainly wouldn’t let that happen.
Soon you could see the school. You still had a few minutes before you arrived in the dorm area. You watched as parents walked around with their kids, students reunited with friends they missed over the summer. You felt sad knowing you never got to experience that on move in days. It was always just you, and Elaine til last year. As you passed the main office building you spotted a familiar spot of platinum blonde hair.
“Stop!” you said to your grandfather. He pulled into the parking lot of the office, and you jumped out of the car.
“PHASMA!!” you screamed. The blonde head turned, and she smiled widely. Before you knew what you were doing you were sprinting towards her with arms wide open.  You two ran right into eachothers arms and made high pitched Squeals as you jumped around.
“When did you get in?” you finally said as you both stopped jumping.
“Last night, I was gonna surprise you, and Matt today!”
“Well consider me surprised.” you said as you hugged her once more.
“Phasma.” your grandfather said, with a smile, as he walked up to the two of you.
“Obi-Wan, it’s good to see you again.” she pulled away from you, and hugged him.
“I do expect you to come over at some point. You need to tell me everything about your adventures in New York.” He said to her as he pointed at her with his index finger.
“Of course, I missed you as much as I missed Y/N, and Matt.” Just then you heard her name being called. You both looked in the direction it came from, and saw a man waving her in his direction.
“That’s my dad, I gotta go. Lets all get dinner tonight, and I’ll tell you guys everything.”
“Sounds perfect, text me a time!” you said as she ran off to her dad.
“Feeling better?” your grandfather asked.
“A lot.” you replied as you watched her, and her family walk into the office.
The two of you made you way back to the car, and headed towards the dorms once more. When you arrived you both grabbed a few bags, and walked to your dorm. The halls were filled with parents, and students trying to move in. You had to push between a lot of people just to get to your door. You unlocked it, and prepared yourself to meet the girl you would be living with for the year. Slowly you opened the door, and stepped in. your side was just as you had left it. Your pictures were still hanging on your wall, the books you had for classes still lined your desk. The plain white sheet that you left on the bed stayed undisturbed. Most importantly Elaine’s side stayed untouched. Her bed was bare, as were the walls it was against. Her desk was void of the small knick knacks she kept there.
“She must not be here yet.” your grandfather said as he put some bags down on the bed. You sighed in relief, and you two started bringing the rest of your things in. You finished getting all the things in your dorm, and your grandfather helped you unpack everything. He helped you make your bed like he did on the first day. This year you got a white bed set with little sunflowers on it. You sat on the made, and your grandfather joined you. You both spoked while you unpacked your school supplies, and placed them in your backpack. Soon he left to go hang out with Luke for a bit while he greeted new students, and their families at the main office.
The unknown perk of dating Ben was you were able to get all your school info early. You were hanging out at their house when he came to see Leia, and Han. Before he left he found you in Matt’s room, and slipped you the papers with all the information on it. You dug the paper out of your pocket, and found your new locker number, and combination. Opening your desk drawer you found all the things you use to decorate your locker. Placing them all in a bag you grabbed the books you keep in there, and headed out to find it. The halls in the schools building were dramatically less busy than the halls of the dorms. It was mostly the new kids who were meeting their teachers for the year. You smiled as you watched them walk in and out of classrooms with nervous faces. Your mind went back to your first day, and you remembered being like them once. You finally found your locker, and opened it. After placing the books inside you grabbed the small photos you kept in there, along with a new photo.
You stared at the photo in your hands, and smiled. It was of you, Gideon, and Hux sitting together on the back of your pop pops truck. Gideons tongue was against the side of Hux’s face as he made a face. You were smiling with an arm around Gideon. Kylo had taken it before you all went to Origin Lake on his last day. You taped it to the door of the locker, and continued to put the photos up. Just as you finished putting everything inside there was a tap on your shoulder. You turned to see who it was, and was met with Ben’s smiling face.
“I was planning on stopping by your dorm at some point today.” he said as he snaked his hands around your waist.
“What on earth are you doing here?” you asked as you hugged him.
“Came to help Matt move in, and when we finished I thought I would stop by Mr. Ackbar.” he kissed the top of your head, and rested his head on yours.
“Mr. Ackbar?” you asked as you pulled away. “The creative writing teacher?”
“Yeah he was my favorite teacher last year, and I wanted to stop by, and see him.”
The both of you chatted as you walked back to your dorm. He told you about the classes he was taking this semester. You talked to him about Hux leaving, and how you felt. He must have sensed you weren’t feeling your best since he left, and distracted you by making jokes, and telling you a funny story about Mitaka getting his head caught in a fence while they were trying to scare his little sister. You smiled listening to him talk about how he did nothing but laugh while the fire department tried to cut the bars to get him out. You laughed with him as you opened your door. Looking up you saw a girl on Elaine’s bed. She was young, but definitely not a middle schooler. Maybe a 9th grader at the most.
She had her light brown hair put into space buns.it gave you a clear view of her face. She had a small nose with a few freckles going across it. She had thin eyebrows, with pretty chocolate brown eyes. Her jaw was rounded, but you could tell that would change as she grew older. She wore a beige puffy sweater tucked into light blue mom jeans. Boxes surrounded her as she stared off to your side of the room. You, and Ben watched her a bit to see if she would notice. When she didnt you turned to Ben, and whispered to him.
“Me, Phasma, and my grandfather are going to dinner tonight. Why don’t you leave us, and I’ll see you there with Matt.” you said close to him. He nodded, and kissed you before walking out of the room.
You put on a smile, and walked further into the room.
“Hey! You must be my new roommate.” she looked up at you. “Im Y/N. This is my last year here.”
 She looked scared almost.
“Im Kaydel. This is my first year here.”
“Yeah, I know.”
“You…know?” she asked.
“oh , uh.. Once you get here you stay in the same dorm unless somethings wrong with the room. So i kinda figured this was your first year since you’re moving in.”  she nodded, and went back to looking at your side of the room. You walked to the small garbage can by your desk, and threw out the bag that held your locker stuff.
“So where are your parents. I mean usually freshman’s parents insist on moving them in.” she looked at you again and tears formed. Your heart broke as you watched her wipe them away.
“They kinda just dropped me off, and left.” you watched as more tears fell from her eyes. You thought for a moment. They just dumped her, and left? What kind of people did that?
Your parents. Your parents were the kind of people who did that, but at least you had grandparents who loved you enough to help you move in. There was nobody here for her.
“Well then we better get you settled in.” you moved towards her, and started moving boxes onto the ground.
“You don’t have to! Really you don’t!” she said as she stood up. She was a great deal shorter than you.
“C’mon. we’re gonna be spending the year together the least I could do is help you out.” you found a box with the word bed written on it, and opened it up.
“Where are your parents?” she asked as she grabbed a box, and opened it up.
“I guess my parents are like yours. My first year all they did was enroll me. My grandparents helped me with the rest.” you began putting the fitted sheet on her mattress.
“It’s fine though, I learned to do everything on my own.” you said as you struggled to get it around the corners properly.
“Does it ever get easier?” she asked quietly. You turned to her. It was like looking at you when you were first here. She looked terrified, and like she was on the constant verge of tears. You gave her a smile.
“It does. Eventually you make your own family. That’s what I did.” she nodded, and went back to unpacking a box that was filled with little decorations.
When you got done helping her unpack you both decorated her side of the room. You did your best to keep up the small talk with her so she could get more comfortable with you. She told you she was from Dulathia, and that she really enjoyed art. She even brought some pictures she drew to hang on her wall. She confirmed your original thought of her being in 9th grade, though she still needed to get her schedule. You told her about the school, and what to expect. You told her about the friends you made here, and how they became your family in just a year. Finally you told her about the girl who used to sleep in her bed. She listened as you told her about you, and Elaine’s friendship.
“I hope I’m as lucky as you are.” you looked over at the pictures on your wall of your friends, and boyfriend.
“I am pretty lucky.” you said with a smile.
Once you two finished you both stepped back, and admired your work. When she was completely satisfied you took to go get her schedule, and gave her a short tour of the school as you walked around campus. As you walked into the office Luke greeted you with a smile, and you introduced him to Kaydel. You saw her smile, and laugh as he introduced himself, and joked with the two of you. Your grandfather watched the three of you interact before introducing himself to her as well. You explained to them about how you were bringing her to grab the rest of her school info. They finally let the two of you go to get her schedule.
After that you walked with her to meet her teachers while showing her the quickest ways to get from class to class. The both of you talked while walking, and got to know eachother better. She was able to get her supplies lists as well as seeing how to get around the school. The sun had set, and the sky was dark, and cloudy. You two talked, and laughed as you walked into your dorm.
“Hey, I’m kinda hungry, when does the school serve dinner.” she asked.
“Oh they don’t serve food to students until classes start.” she frowned as she plopped herself down on the bed. You looked at the time, and saw you had to meet up with Phasma in a few minutes.
“Hey, I’m meeting some friends for dinner in a few, why don’t you come with me?”
“Oh, I would, but I don’t have any money my new card isn’t in yet.” she said sadly.
“Don’t worry, I got you.” you grabbed a jacket from the closet. “C’mon, I don’t wanna be late.”
She excitedly hopped off her bed, and followed you out.

You didn't see much of Ben.
Walking past your grandfather's room you peered in to see him peacefully sleeping.
“I'm gonna miss you so much when you go.” You lifted yourself off his chest, and laid your head on the pillow next to his.
“I'm sure you will forget about me quickly.” He straightened his body out so you could lay comfortably. “I’m sure Ben will prove to be a good distraction from my absence.”
“Nothing will distract me from you being gone. You're my best lab partner.”
“And you.” He looked over to you, and you looked back at him. “Are my best friend.”
You felt tears slip down your face. Your body shook as you cried.
“Please. None of that. It will only make this harder for us.” He said as he wiped the tears away.
“How are you okay with this? You're leaving, and it's like it doesn't even phase you.”
“I'm sure it will all set in once I'm there.” He hugged you close to him as you continued crying.
“Don't forget us.” You said with a sniffle.
He simply smiled at you, and got up. You forgot he sleeps in nothing, but his boxers. He walked over to his suitcase, and pulled out an outfit. You stayed crying on the bed as he got dressed. He then grabbed Millie's travel bag, and placed her inside.
“It's time.” Was all he said. You got up, and helped him get his bags in the car.
The ride to the airport was quiet, and long. Matt couldn't come since it was Hans's birthday. You all had your last together the day before to make up for it. Once you arrived at the airport you found out there had been a delay for 3 hours. The two of you sat by his gate, and talked.
“So what do you have to do once you get there?” you asked him
“Well my father is meeting me at the school. I have to spend my first year in a dorm so there's no way of getting out of that, but my apartment is ready so that is where miss Millie will be staying.”
In his smile you saw he wasn't scared. He was excited. He really was going home. Who were you to be upset about it.
He would be back again. It wasn't going to be forever.
“I don't want to leave you.” He said between cries. You held him tighter than you already were.
“You'll be back. When you do come back I'll be right here” You whispered against his shoulder.
Sitting in the driver's seat you took a deep breath to keep yourself from crying again.
“Well, yes, I'm supposed to. I figured today may be hard for you, with Elaine gone, and Hux leaving. So I figured we could spend the day together. Perhaps go shopping for some new dorm items.” He said with a smile.
“That sounds nice.” You said staring at the ceiling.
“Perfect. I'll make us some lunch, and give you time to rest, and we can go school shopping for this year.”
“You know you don't have to take me school shopping right? I don't want you to waste the day doing something that boring.”
“Nonsense. Any time I spend with you isn't boring.” He walked out and headed to the kitchen.
You felt empty inside. Like your whole body was numb. You thought that you would be fine since you were dating Ben, but you just felt nothing. Your best friends were gone, and you didn't know what to do. Even your grandfather was sad about Hux leaving. He wouldn't say it out loud, but the way he talked about all his memories with him let you know that he was missing him.
“I'm sure you two will get along fine. I don't see Luke rooming you with someone you wouldn't like especially since you, and Ben are together.” your grandfather said as he drove you both to the school to drop your things off.
“I know he wouldn't, but still there's always a chance.”
“Are you worried that you won't like them, or are you worried you may like them too much?” he asked. You pouted, and crossed your arms.
“I hate you when you're right you know that.”
“Then I can't imagine you like me very much.” he said with a smile while he kept his eyes on the road. You smiled, and looked out the window to watch the buildings pass as you drove. He really was right. What if you love your new roommate? What if you loved her more than Elaine? That couldn't happen. You wouldn't let it. Elaine certainly wouldn't let that happen.
“Obi-Wan, it's good to see you again.” she pulled away from you, and hugged him.
“That's my dad, I gotta go. Lets all get dinner tonight, and I'll tell you guys everything.”
Most importantly Elaine's side stayed untouched.
Before he left he found you in Matt's room, and slipped you the papers with all the information on it.
