Frau Gauden
In the German region of the Prignitz, Frau Gauden (Mrs. Gauden) is the leader of the Wild Hunt. She leads this army of supernatural hunters together with her 24 dog-shaped daughters.
Tumblr media
The Wild Hunt, also known as the Wild Army or the Wild Ride, is the German name for a folk tale widespread in many parts of Europe, particularly in the north, which usually refers to a group of supernatural hunters who hunt across the sky. The sighting of the Wild Hunt has different consequences depending on the region. On the one hand, it is considered a harbinger of disasters such as wars, droughts or illnesses, but it may also refer to the death of anyone who witnesses it. There are also versions in which witnesses become part of the hunt or the souls of sleeping people are dragged along to take part in the hunt. The term “Wild Hunt” was coined based on Jacob Grimm’s German Mythology (1835).
Tumblr media
The phenomenon, which has significantly different regional manifestations, is known in Scandinavia as Odensjakt (“Odin's Hunt”), Oskorei, Aaskereia or Åsgårdsrei (“the Asgardian Train”, “Journey to Asgard”) and is closely linked to the Yule season here. The reference to Wotin/Odin in the name Wüetisheer (with numerous variations) is also clear in the Alemannic and Swabian dialects; In the Alps, people also speak of the Ridge Train. In England the train is called the Wild Hunt, in France it is called Mesnie Hellequin, Fantastic Hunt, Hunt in the Air, or Wild Hunt. Even in the French-speaking part of Canada, the Wild Hunt is known under the term Chasse-galerie. In Italian, the phenomenon is referred to as caccia selvaggia or caccia morta.
Tumblr media
The Wild Army or the Wild Hunt takes to the skies particularly in the period between Christmas and Epiphany (the Rough Nights), but Carnival, Corporal Lent and even Good Friday also appear as dates.
Christian dates have superseded the pagan dates, which see the Wild Hunt moving, especially during the Rough Nights. This period of time is assumed to be originally between the winter solstice, i.e. December 21st and, twelve nights later, January 2nd. In European customs, however, since Roman antiquity, people have usually counted from December 25th (Christmas) to January 6th (High New Year).
Tumblr media
The ghostly procession races through the air with a terrible clatter of screams, hoots, howls, wails, groans and moans. But sometimes a lovely music can be heard, which is usually taken as a good omen; otherwise the Wild Hunt announces bad times.
Men, women and children take part in the procession, mostly those who have met a premature, violent or unfortunate death. The train consists of the souls of people who died “before their time”, that is, caused by circumstances that occurred before natural death in old age. Legend has it that people who look at the train are pulled along and then have to move along for years until they are freed. Animals, especially horses and dogs, also come along.
Tumblr media
In general, the Wild Hunt is not hostile to humans, but it is advisable to prostrate yourself or lock yourself in the house and pray. Whoever provokes or mocks the army will inevitably suffer harm, and whoever deliberately looks out of the window, gaping at the army will have his head swell so much that he cannot pull it back into the house.
Tumblr media
The first written records of the Wild Hunt come from early medieval times, when pagan traditions were still alive. In 1091, a Normannic priest named Gauchelin wrote about the phenomenon, describing a giant man with a club leading warriors, priests, women and dwarfs, among them deseased acquaintances. Later references appear throughout the High and Late Middle Ages.

Finally got around to reading the toh pitch bible, and here are some of—in my opinion—the craziest nuggets of information from it:
-King being the de-powered "King of Demons" was seemingly originally gonna be played entirely straight
-Eda's curse made her old. Lilith seems to have inflicted it upon her at Obron's (Belos) request ruthlessly and without regret
-The Boiling Isles was not originally a country/continent(?) within the Demon Realm, but was a separate intermediary world that sat between the Demon & Human worlds
-The author of the Unassuming Princess books (proto-Good Witch Azura) was originally a real plot point, albeit not a major one. It was Eda's ex bf writing books about Eda's past adventures.
-Amity & Luz had this ep with the Bat Queen that sounds so cool, like really good Lumity content potential, me want

I actually enjoyed this chapter a lot. It's nice to get confirmation that Martha and Henry had a little bit of a past together! It's a shame that it didn't work out back then.
Tumblr media
I think this is the first time we've heard that Henderson is from a deposed noble family, so that was an interesting bit of lore. I doubt that this is going to turn into a pro-monarchy story, but given that Henderson is anti-war it does make me wonder if the recent wars would have happened had the country not gotten rid of the monarchy. Then again, power corrupts, so it may not have made much of a difference. I do wonder now just how far back Endo is willing to go when it comes to the history of Ostania.
Tumblr media
I'll also say that it's pretty sweet that his obsession with elegance seems to have come from her, but also makes the fact that they haven't gotten together yet all the more tragic.
I do wonder if Martha is going to regret telling Becky about this as she seems like the type to not let something like this go, but maybe Becky will be the one to finally nudge them enough to finally get together. I can dream, right?

Henderson and Martha backstory in today's new chapter...was not expecting that, but it was really good! I know people were shipping them before, but now the ship has really set sail 😅
Tumblr media
So Martha is the origin of Henderson's "Elegant" catchphrase...how cute, lol.
Tumblr media
Now we know why Henderson was so shocked when Becky said this! 😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not into reading fanfics, but I still got some "Twiyor Eden AU" vibes from this chapter!
Tumblr media
I see some of Twilight in young Henderson: Twilight is constantly conflicted with keeping up his spy persona despite growing feelings for his family, just like Henderson was obsessed with perfectly upholding the rules of Eden...until he started to realize that even the prestigious school was being corrupted.
Tumblr media
Also similarly, Twilight's realization about the need for information, which eventually led to him becoming a spy, is just like Henderson's realization about the need for education, which led to him becoming a teacher.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And still another similarity is Henderson becoming so obsessed with his pursuit of education that he cast aside desires of wanting to have fun and enhance relationships with others...just as Twilight has been doing since he became a spy. But it seems like present day Henderson realized how ignorant he was back then...maybe Twilight will eventually realize this about himself as well?
Tumblr media
I've mentioned many times before that I love how Endo is able to so seamlessly bring darker themes into otherwise non-dark stories, which makes the setting, characters, etc, more interesting. Even in something so simple like the short mission with Bond last chapter where he gives a glimpse into the horrors of animal experimentation, in this chapter he brings in themes of impending war and corrupt education in what would otherwise be a benign school romance story.
Tumblr media
Looks like this arc will continue with at least another chapter, possibly more! I'm still curious to see how Martha ended up becoming a soldier and eventually working for the Blackbells. Or maybe she ended up being part of Garden, as some people theorize. Regardless, I really don't think ballet stayed her main focus throughout her life. Also, didn't Henderson eventually get married and have a child later on? Hope we'll learn even more about them in the next chapter!

It feels right that after a year of no Owl House, TOH would give us one final, perfect gift in the form of another universe that captures everything we loved about the original, the beginning of a different yet similar story, one that will never be finished... But the potential, the endless horizons that come from any direction this other story could take, provides the basis for everlasting speculation and discussion and creation. And I think that's beautiful, a final gift encouraging us to take out our pencils and other tools and fill out the blanks and make our own stories with, just as Dana and the crew were inspired to make their own stories by watching other shows and often wanting to fill in the blanks themselves!

Speaking of; The Owl House's pitch bible got leaked as well, and we have some interesting tidbits on Proto-Belos, or 'Obron' as he was once known, and William AKA Proto-Hunter!
Can I just say, I'm quite smug to know that Belos resurrecting the Titan as his endgame was always the original plan? I called it from the start! It was also kinda obvious, but c'mon. The Bionicle fan in me was obsessed.
I'm not surprised about the mentions of Pupa, or the name Obron or even the appearance; We've actually seen all of this before! But what does make me curious is the mention of two other councilors... So there's supposed to be a trio? Again, I always bring up the three statue motif in my speculation about the original plans of the show, I wonder if there's any connection there. Would Kikimora have been one of the other councilors, and who would've been the third? And it seems the coven system was always a thing, early on at least.
Yeah, the mention of '500 years' and the connection to William, etc. Even as Obron he was supposed to have been a human witch hunter turned actual witch. Comparing this to the pilot we got, it may not be Obron that the characters are referring to, since he's not the Emperor. But maybe he declared himself Emperor since he was basically the only one in charge by that point.
Makes me wonder if he hates humans under the delusion of 'I hate modern humans'. He hates what humanity has become and he's taking out his anger on modern humans; We also know the main reason he wants Luz in the pilot, to awaken the Titan. I presume Obron preserved William in stasis and hid him away, only for Luz to wake him up earlier than intended. I can imagine the scene/episode where Obron realizes William has been awake and roaming about for a while now...
There's the confirmation that Prince William and Hunter are the same character, or were. As I guessed, his witch-hunting tendencies would've been established early on as a strange gag, a quirk, only to become so much more darkly significant. I wonder if in this draft, Obron's past as a witch hunter also has relevance; Does he think he's 'saving' humanity by using the Titan to conquer both worlds, wiping out the denizens of one? Also him being a feral kid subsisting off of food given to him by friends is such Labyrinth Runners vibes. Was William always going to have his dynamic with Willow, given Luz plays a bigger role in him opening his mind?
Given we had a 'proof of concept' animation leaked a while back, I wonder if that was an even earlier draft to the pitch bible, given William is PRINCE William. Maybe he's meant to be an actual European human, because European bigotry towards witches existed back then I think, even if it wasn't as pronounced. And Obron does bear a resemblance to one of the Proto-Belos designs, though I'm not sure which came first.
…Huh. Would William have been Obron’s nephew or. God. Would he have been his brother. And while William never grew up because magical stasis, Obron did and now sees his brother be the exact same but also change. Man. And William just has to reconcile, when he gets his memories back, the jump from his brother, a kid like him, to Obron. So we still got the desperate attempt to preserve his brother, only for his brother/Hunter to ‘betray’ him.

I just finished watching the leaked Owl House pilot, and one thing that struck me is how much better it was at showing how Luz was an outcast back at home and how that made her feel as a result. The whole motif of "Us weirdos have to stick together" felt a lot more personal and less like a lesson was being blatantly stated. And, of course, her final interaction with Eda about her drawing melted my heart.
Also, I think I said something similar about Separate Tides, but man, I always forget how fucking funny this show is. Yeah, there were some jokes we saw in the final product, but the extended book report sequence and the twist that it was in geometry class was hilarious.
And I would be remiss if I didn't mention Amity's presence here. Kinda wild how she was originally not just present but the reason Luz ended up in the Boiling Isles in the first place. Not to mention the seeds of their relationship being planted much earlier, with the complexity clearly evident.
Do I think every aspect of this pilot would have made a better show? Not necessarily, and I'm pretty happy with what we got. However, it would have been interesting to see a show that stuck more closely to this original vision.
